Relationships, Freelancers, Part 2

How Agents York, North, South, and Connecticut behave in committed relationships.

York: Bad jokes bad pick-up lines bad puns. His partner gets the worst of the worst at all hours of the day. No place, and no time is sacred. They’d be filthy rich if they got a penny for every time he ruined the moment. Has a latent possessiveness that doesn’t come into play very often, but still very much exists. Means well, but takes a lot of things at face value, and has misunderstood his partner’s actions and feelings plenty in the past. Otherwise, he’s very accepting, and very rarely judges (if ever). He’s the type to feel loved when spending quality time with you, and he rarely if ever turns down an opportunity to do just that. In fact, it doesn’t even matter what you do together-- just that it’s together.

North Dakota: Ridiculously lovey-dovey, ESPECIALLY in public. Doesn’t stop no matter how long you’ve been together, even decades down the line. Gives you all the attention you could possibly need, and then some. To say he’s a bit of a nag is an understatement. Worries like a momma bird, and will go into disapproving big brother mode whenever you’re doing something he deems unhealthy or dangerous. Likes picking you up and carrying you, and is strong enough to bench-press you no matter how big you are. He’s the one in the relationship who remembers all the important dates, including all your friends’ and relatives’ birthdays. Definitely remembers anything and everything that has to do with you: allergies, what you like and dislike, and that one offhand comment you made once about needing to get a new wallet soon. Overprotective, and gets jealous easily.

South Dakota: Also strong enough to bench-press you, and often does so. Again, doesn’t matter how big you are. If you thought her temper would decline--or even vanish--around a romantic partner, you’d be wrong. It’s still as explosive and unmanageable as ever, but if you’re visibly cowed by her yelling and hitting things, she starts being more conscientious of it-- and at the very least, puts physical distance between the two of you when she’s in one of her moods. As your relationship progresses and her feelings deepen, you become her rock. The person she trusts to hear her out and help her come back down. When she’s calm, she’s a total showoff with the biggest smirks and grins, and says the dirtiest things. Making you blush is one of her absolute favorite pastimes. Like North, she’s prone to jealousy, but even more so. Don’t tell her I said this, but she’s pretty clingy too...

Connie / CT: Connie is a complicated woman. She has many, many secrets, and you know barely a third of them. According to her, you’re safer that way. The secrecy can put a strain on your relationship, but she does her best to make up for it in other ways. She’s not only a great listener, but she's the person who gets angry on your behalf, and raises the standard for how people are allowed to treat you. If someone’s giving you trouble and she finds out about it... well, she deals with it, but once again you’re safer not knowing how. Just as it’s important to her that she have your back, it’s important she knows that you have hers, too. You’re the only person who’s still allowed to call her Connie. She makes you keep a single bag packed with essentials at all times just in case she needs to spirit you away in the middle of the night without explanation.

Percy Jackson au since I was listening to the soundtrack and rvb has made a permanent spot in my brain. This ended up much longer than I thought it was and it's really just the sparknotes. So uh, enjoy my rantings.

Carolina is the daughter of Athena. Her dad did not know her mom was a god and when she inevitably left, he thought that making his daughter the best of the best at everything would bring her back. It did not. Now Carolina has issues. Church is Carolina's younger brother but is fully human. He does, however, have the ability to see all the mythological creatures that come around chasing after Carolina and gets dragged with her to Camp Half-Blood since he's also being abused by their dad.

Connie is a daughter of Athena, but she became a hunter of Artemis and basically got disowned for it (which wasn't all that different from how she was being treated by her mom before). She's on good terms with most of the freelancers, but her and Carolina have a lot of drama since Carolina hates the fact that Connie left to be a hunter instead of staying to make their mother proud.

South and North are the children of Ares. South is a very stereotypical Ares kid who is all competitive and aggressive and ready to throw down for any reason. North is much calmer than his sister and his other Ares siblings and prefers to talk things out before beating the shit out of someone. He almost single handedly got himself and his sister to Camp Half-blood, so you know he's not to be underestimated. Maine is also an Ares kid but more of the silent and deadly type. Even before injuring his throat on a quest, he was very intimidating to most of the campers even though he's generally pretty chill.

York is the son of Hermes and has been at Camp since he was very little. He's definitely a trickster and likes to pull harmless little pranks around camp to get the other campers feeling more like kids instead of soldiers. He's the councilor of his cabin and is usually the one to give orientation to the new campers. Wash is also a Hermes kid but with more of the cunning and thievery part of his godly parent. He's a sneaky little shit with the wits of an Athena kid. Definitely traumatized, but underneath all his teenage angst is a good hearted kid who wants to protect his friends.

Tex is the daughter of Zeus and is the powerhouse of camp. She's been at camp almost as long as York has but been on twice the amount of quests as everyone in camp combined. She despises the fact that Church is at camp, but he's also the only kids brave enough to call her out on her bullshit so bluntly so he gets to stick around... for now.

Wyoming is the son of Apollo because look at this man. You cannot tell me he wasn't a theater kid in high school. Specifically the very annoying ones that ruin the production for everyone else because they have to be in the spotlight. He's got an annoyingly good voice and his jokes are subpar but everyone wants to knock this guy down a peg so bad.

Florida is the son of Dionysus and lives for the madness and chaos of half-blood life. He's got a bloodthirst that makes the Ares kids look tame and is infamous for that one game of capture the flag where he dislocated his shoulders to get out of a trap and then continued to play the game like nothing happened. He is scary and campers fear him (expect for Wyoming because they match each other's crazy).

Now the reds and blues!

Tucker is the son of Aphrodite and has the worst charm voice ever, cannot get anyone to fall for it ever. The only person he's semi-gotten was Wash and that's because that man is a simp and already acts stupid when he's around Tucker. That being said, Tucker hates using his charm voice anyways because, as an Aphrodite kid, everyone always assumes that they have free range to touch or drag him around like he doesn't have standards for the people he wants to kiss/date and he doesn't want to force others into that same situation. Luckily, his siblings are awesome and they all have each other's backs for shit like this and that especially goes for baby Junior that every child in Aphrodite Cabin would die for.

Caboose and Sarge are Satyrs, Sarge being a veteran in bringing kids to camp while Caboose's first trek with half-bloods was when he brought Carolina, Church, and Tucker to camp. Sarge was the one to bring Simmons, Grif, and Donut btw and I like to think that campers are all attached to the satyrs that brought them to camp so the whole Reds vs Blues rivalry is basically just them fighting over who has the better Satyr.

Freckles is a hell hound, nuff said.

Simmons is the son of Hephaestus and spends hours hunkered down making little inventions that often time explode, not always on accident. Sarge can often be found with him since Simmons helped make his assistant bot Lopez who is always malfunctioning since, y'know, it's a summer camp with limited supplies. Grif can also be found with Simmons but is much less helpful and is always getting food all over Simmons work desk! It's incredibly inconsiderate.

Grif is the son of Dionysus who is way too similar to his dad. He's grumpy, he's snarky, he has a tendency to mispronounce or straight up make up names for people when he doesn't like or want to talk to them, and he's secretly very fond of the people who annoy him the most (Simmons). He has also gotten in trouble because he refuses to offer up his food to the gods so instead he started making booze at camp and pours one out for them instead. Grif has burns on his hands from the first time he did that because he forgot that alcohol was flammable.

Donut is our third Hermes kid but with a knack for communication and language. He's all about getting to see the world and meet new people but is content to settle for getting to know the various people who come to camp. He knows everything there is to know about mythology and monsters and the like. He also likes helping out in the infirmary (mostly so he can hang out with Apollo kid Doc, but that's neither here nor there) and gets campers to relax before procedures by getting them to chat about their lives and likes and interests.

I’m moving back home this week, but I didn’t wanna lose my artistic touch during that time, so I figured why not draw my favorite color-coded gang! These are the sketches, but they’re all gonna be fully lined and colored hopefully before the end of pride month!

So far I’ve got Red Team (+Doc) and Blue Team. I’m planning on doing the Freelancers, the Chorus Gang/Mercs, and Shatter Squad/Viper!

finished rewatching a bunch of rvb seasons and noticed how wash always stayed behind/never put himself out there on his missions during pfl and then sacrificing himself in every other situation with the reds and blues?? staying behind after felix and locus attacked even when he had the opportunity to run to the cave. offering to stay behind on chorus to finish the war while the reds and blues had the chance to fly off the planet and go home. staying behind to fight felix and locus at the temple bridge. sacrificed himself again to save the universe during the shisno trilogy knowing he would struggle for the rest of his life.

being in the background of each mission during pfl cost him everything (cause he never truly was at the top of the leaderboard, we just see him the most because he is our main character as the viewer, but for pfl, he was just another guy, the worst fighter, the young, naive kid who got a grappling hook stuck to his balls). he survived, but at what cost? he lost connie, lost york and north and maine and all of his friends. the director he trusted and had total faith in betrayed him. the ai implantation scarred him for life. but he survived.

so he'll be damned if he survives again, but has to watch another family die.

RvB Friendship Fray- Round Two, Part One, Poll Fourteen

Working on a pretty lighthearted completely about Wash, Church and Carolina recovering a collection of old videos from the main freelancers (North, York, Tex, C.T., South, Maine, and Wyoming + Wash and Carolina), revealing embarrassing yet hilarious secrets and bringing back the small, scarce ‘good memories’ they could muster out of the program, or atleast their the good memories regarding their deceased friends, and I’m looking for small prompts for future chapters? Planning to post a chapter a day and I’m pretty sure I’ll run out of ideas eventually, so if you have any ideas of some freelancer shenanigans, let me KNOW

There’s not a whole lot of implied relationships, other than Yorkalina, and I am so hoping to dabble a little bit in South9er, or whatever their shipname is, i am So hungry for any 479er content and I’m hoping you fellas are too

rvb10 summary: oof/10

the good: carolina's emotional beats in the pfl flashbacks. her rivalry with tex being so oddly lopsided. north and theta. "your friend, connie."

the bad: wash went from naively earnest to... comic relief? the cuts between episodes were extremely rough on yt's complete version, way worse than rvb9's whiplash; rvb9 was just poorly paced, but rvb10's transitions themselves were like, hard cuts to a black screen for a second or two before the next ep started rolling... tremendously awkward. audio balancing was better in this one than in rvb9 but still not awesome esp when watching in a discord call. "make the voices stop." wash is not blond and i'll keep dying on that hill. the whole of the pfl pacing and the weird half-retcon? thing? where they built up to one thing (tex figuring it out) but had to somehow fit it into the framework of events that were mentioned as Important in earlier seasons (some freelancers went rogue and broke into a secure facility to find the alpha). the really poor use of halo assets (crates w/ ONI's logo in the mother of invention's hangar bay? really? and what non-halo fan would understand the fucking huragok?). the very botched "are we the baddies?"-ing that never really panned out or actually felt relevant to everything else that was going on. THEY BLEW UP THE STATE OF FLORIDA.

the really really really good: the entirety of the present-time story. carolina digging herself into a hole and dragging epsilon down with her. wash choosing the reds and blues over joining carolina to get revenge specifically because she'd threatened them. epsilon's rant to the director. carolina's and wash's relationship, particularly the way it frays apart entirely. docnut holistic essential oils energy healing asmr yoga farm commune. carolina's shoulders in that armor set. tex/lina/CT/pillguy fight.

much like with rvb9 i don't feel quite so heated about this season anymore and as with one of its themes, i am Letting It Go. i have other things to enjoy about rvb! such as how RvB11 My Belovèd is next.

Mer and Avian au but Freelancers as birds! Part two of this post

Wash

Barn owl: mostly cream white feathers with dark gray fading on the tips. Wings are large and powerful, which is good since he likes swimming. Do not be fooled, it takes a lot of effort to keep himself afloat once his wings are wet and they take forever to dry. Often shakes like a cat to get the water off. Also has a fairly long tail, often mistaken for part of his wing. Before his growth spurt, he would trip on his tail a lot.

Has bird-like feet: legs “warp” into the bones of his talons starting around his knees. They’re as thick as his normal legs, just covered in a protective layer. Has five long toes (one sticking from the back of his foot so he can grab fish) with claws at the end.

Has gray eyes that can see in the dark (preferred) but can still enjoy the sun (usually needs protective gear when it’s particularly bright)

Carolina

Peregrine Falcon: Dark grey wings with white strips on her inner feathers. Similarly shaped feet as Wash but with four toes instead of five and with much larger and sharper talons.

Fastest of the flock, but can’t swim for shit. Mainly hunts on land and comes out to the coast to fly with friends and challenge Tex to swimming competitions (she always loses). 

Part of her wing was injured in an accident that took York’s eyesight, Maine’s voice, and gave Wash the scar that runs down his face. Must take constant care of her wing or it tightens up and makes it hard to fly and decreases her reaction time.

 Currently being courted by York

York

Golden Pheasant: Bright gold wings and tail with red and black accents. His wings aren’t very big, but he has a very long tail that is prettily patterned and takes much care to maintain. His feathers wrap around his shoulders and neck like a scarf and are similarly patterned to his tail.

Can technically fly, but his wings aren’t meant for air time like the others so most of his time is spent on the ground watching. He’s also mostly grounded because of an accident that left him blind in one eye, so his depth perception is shit. This makes it hard to hunt, so he takes to eating more berries, leaves, and leaving traps for prey to fall into. 

Is courting Carolina by making her yummy food, building her very nice nests, and helping her take care of her wings.

North

Hummingbird (specifically purple-throated mountain gem): Wings are a metallic deep purple with dark green feathers lining the inner wing. Wings are very flexible and move very fast despite North’s large size. 

Chugs nectar on the daily and would probably chug honey down too if it weren’t so thick. Doesn’t mind eating the meat his friends catch, but he prefers sweeter and lighter food.

Actually not that hyper despite the stereotypes about hummingbirds and spends a lot of time napping and relaxing with York on the ground as their friends fly around.

South

Hummingbird (specifically purple-throated mountain gem): Lighter purple wings that shimmer more blue in the sun with yellow-green lining the inside of her wing. Wings work similarly to North’s but she is much faster than he is.

Fits the hyperactive stereotype of hummingbirds but is just as likely to crash after a day spent flying because she loses her energy quickly. 

Tries to make up for this by eating a lot of food, including the meats her brother is picky about. Often called a scavenger at heart because of the way she hunches when she’s sitting and the way she chokes down her food.

Connie

Robin: Grey wings that shine orange-red in the sun. One of the smaller birds of the flock, but stays in the middle when it comes to speed. Her legs look similar to Wash and Carolina but hers are grey instead of orange. 

Is the most active when the sun’s out and is always trying to get the others to fly/hunt with her. Sings the prettiest out of the flock and can be heard twittering basically all day. If you need to find Connie, just listen for her signature song.

Maine

Vulture (Who was gonna tell me there are so many vultures? Holy heck that’s a lot of species of one bird): Has the biggest fucking wings ever, even when folded in, he has to be careful not to get them caught on anything. They are mostly dark grey, but he has white feathers from his youth that never changed colors. 

Maine’s voice is very deep and very rough due to his unique voice box. However, his voice gets fucked up after an accident and can only really communicate in grunts and hisses, and even then those are limited if he doesn’t want to fuck up his voice even more. 

It takes a lot of work and energy for him to flap his wings, which means getting in the air is hard, but once he’s up he can glide around for hours at a time without rest. He’s decent at hunting since he can just swoop down and crush his prey under his feet, but he prefers scavenging as has large hoards of preserved meats he’s picked up. He really likes jerky.

Wyoming

Peacock: Wings are very colorful and patterned. Inner wings are white and black stripped and are the colors that are seen when his wings are pulled in. His outer wings are orange and dark grey with a little strip of blue. His tail is obviously the main attraction, long and blue and green with the ends of these holding the eye shaped feathers that entrance and impress. 

Can fly, but prefers not to because it messes up his feathers and is kind of clumsy because of his tail. Also very vocal and likes singing with Connie. You can often hear them calling back and forth when Connie is flying and Wyoming is on the ground. 

A surprisingly good hunter that likes to play with his food before killing and eating it. As long as he doesn’t get his feathers dirty, there’s no prey that can hide from him for long. It’s for this reason he likes hunting with Florida so much

Florida

Secretary Bird: Light blue-grey feathers on his inner wing with Dark blue-grey feathers on his outer wing. Has a rather large wingspan for someone his size. Has long spindly legs that mimic that of Wash, Carolina, and Connie but much thinner and a light pink color. Also has feathers on the back of his head that spread out like halo.

Likes flying a lot and can be seen souring in patterns similar to a vulture when he spots something he likes/thinks is interesting (very often found circling Wyoming). That being said, he mostly hunts with Wyoming on the ground and they play cat and mouse with their food. 

When not flying, can often be found perched next to Wyoming or on top of Maine. He thinks it’s very amusing to stare at people with his big ole’ black eyes that seem to see into your soul. He freaks people out a little bit.
