06/05/2023-Lymington and Pennington
Pictures taken today in this set are of: 1. Little Tern in flight at Lymington, the main aim to see today and I was thrilled to get exquisite views of these delicate mustard-billed beauties. We really did get exceptional views of a decent number of them seeing them on the islands of Normandy lagoon and flying over the sea to fish seeing the one in the photo especially dive a few times and get fish which was just fascinating and powerful to watch. A key spring moment. 2. Ragwort at Lymington. 3 and 10. Curlew Sandpiper (with a Dunlin in the third photo where the Curlew Sandpiper has itâs head down), I was over the moon to hear this bird was around at Pennington after the Lymington walk so we went to look for it and I was amazed to see this rustic bird coming into strong red plumage wading on the flood. An exceptional bird to see, the earliest Iâd ever seen one in a year we tend to see them in the summer or early autumn. A fantastic moment to take my bird year list to 198, level with my 2018 total to be my joint third highest ever year list which feels amazing. 4. My first birdâs-foot trefoil of the year which was nice. 5, 6, 8 and 9. Views at Lymington. 7. An adorable Lapwing chick which was saw a few of from one family after the adult they were hunkering under started walking, a heart filling springtime sight we often see on the visit to look for Little Terns here each year that I was hoping to see today. A great moment in a strong time for me seeing young birds.
Other highlights today were excellent views of courting Great Crested Grebes performing a bit of weed dance on the sea what a year Iâve had for seeing this, Whitethroat one Iâm seeing well lately, Little Egret including a ringed one, Shelduck, Shoveler, Gadwall, Turnstone, brilliant Ringed Plover views and Avocet. A group of Eiders flying over the sea was smashing to see, with Common Terns seen well too at Normandy lagoon, Great Black-backed Gull and House Sparrow seen well. It was great to hear another Cuckoo this year too. A hirundine hat trick of House Martin, Sand Martin and Swallow stood out too I got breathtaking views of the two blue beauties especially and enjoyed seeing Swallows fly onto a fence at Pennington. Fumitory, cow parsley, vetch, broad-leaved over, bluebells, buttercups, forget-me-not, daisies, plantain and cleavers were other plant highlights. Buzzard in a field and my first oxeye daisies of the year were good journey sightings today with Collared Dove, Woodpigeon, Goldfinch and Starling seen well at home.

I finished ME3 and whelp that end game was a fucking SLOG. OH MY GOD. It never ended. I ended up going with Control because I am a weak-willed paragon player at the end of the day. I will probably reload my save if I can and experiment with Destroy tomorrow though. Even though I did a shit ton of side-missions I guess my military assets still werenât enough. I blame the fact I didnât know the Reapors would breed like fucking lice and I prolly should have spent the first day just scanning for as much materials as I could because I did 95% of the side-missions that didnât require scanning and I was only like 6000+
Fuck. My. Life.
Okay so my hot takes are as follows: I still love Shepard/Garrus. I was very heartbroken to break Kaidanâs heart by picking the sexy velociraptor over him.
Also, Garrus never gave me shit for picking up with Cerberus and I get why people dislike Kaidan. I still think his pluses outweigh the minuses and I am thinking of doing a m!Shep only trilogy playthrough where I romance him cause fuck I love war buddies falling in love and watching a friendship shift into something more trope. -cough cough- Iâm looking at you Cortez and Vega. -cough cough-
Garrus also kinda reads as ver young and emotionally immature in a lot of ways. Like Shepard was definitely the first serious relationship he ever had. Fucks sake, this manâs idea of a date was to go and shoot things on top of the Citadelďżźďżź. And he cannot be smooth to save his poor Turian life. ďżź
But thatâs part of his charm, if Iâm being honest. However compare that to the heartbreaking and emotionally vulnerable moments Shepard and Kaidan have, you can definitely tell the developers were more invested in that romance.
I ABJECTLY REFUSE to acknowledge they did my bae KalâReegar like they did and fucking offed him in a fucking email. N O P E. Sorry, rumors of his death are greatly exaggerated and he will drag his wounded ass home and surprise Tali by being alive. I will accept no other canon.
I fucking ship the hell out of Liara and Javik even though Javik is a super not-cool colonizer/ at times outright misogynist and I donât know how I feel about this. It makes me uncomfortable but I guess thatâs why you have problematic faves. So long as you are willing to acknowledge and accept that the shit they pull isnât kosher and donât try and defend it then itâs up for you to find that balance of on your morality scale.
But yeah even Citadel DLC hinted at that being a thing and yeah I ship it.
I donât mind Garrus/Tali as much as I thought I was when going into ME3 and I know I kinda rudely labeled it as pair the spares but the more I think about it, the more I can see it. I mean, they have been with Shepard for years and I can totally see them building a bond. I would also be completely down for a Garrus/Tali slow-burn where Shepard/Garrus was a thing and now Garrus needs to find a way to conduct his life in a world without her being the pendulum on which his orbit revolves.
And I feel like Tali and Kaidan/Liara to a lesser extent are the people who would understand what itâs like trying to live in a world without her larger-than-life presence. I am also 1000% open to the idea of Garrus/Kaidan finding second chance love with one another with them grieving together over the loss of Shepard and HAVE in fact read some really awesome fanfics with that theme.
Iâve been reading SO MANY FANFICS during this playthrough and I have a shit ton of pairings, both crack and otherwise. Iâm compiling a list of ME fanfic recs right now that I will gush about in ad nauseam later.
I got boned because I didnât import from ME1 onwards so it felt like a personal attack and failing that Eve and Miranda died. I also didnât have access to Kasumi or Zaheed which made me sad.
I just donât think Iâm up for sinking another 100+ hours into this series right this moment. I am debating buying Andromedea but the amount of bitching and whinging Iâve heard about it, I donât know if itâs just fandom being a whiny titty baby because they âbroke itâ or if itâs legitimate criticism.
Iâm darkly amused that I am 2/2 in the talking at people long enough they would rather shoot themselves than listen to me pontificate any longer. First Saren and now the Illusive Man, Shepard really do be talking people quite literally to death with her care bear stares Paragon energy. 𤣠And yes I am dating myself horrifically with that reference.
Iâm also debating picking up Dragon Age. I bought it on disk for PS3 I think but Iâm not breaking that shit out to play a horrifically grainy near 20 year old title. Hopefully it has a remastered edition.
Iâm glad I finally finished this series. Iâve legit been picking it up and putting it down for like 10 years at this point. Do I think itâs worth the hype everyone has given it? Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh no? Itâs serviceable and definitely a fun ride. I am super both confused and impressed with BioWare rehauling the gaming mechanics THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. Like, I respect the grind but why? I know everyone hated the Mako and none of use were sad to see it go but jeeze. Iâm assuming there was a gaming engine difference between the three of them but still itâs not usual to have the gaming mechanics changed three different times and it gives it a bit of a haphazard vibe because of it.
I actually REALLY MISSED the hacking games in ME3. I suspect Iâm prolly in the minority there but I would much rather have that fun code matching/icon matching memory style game over mashing buttons in ME1 or just having to sit there watching Shepard wave her hand around for 10 seconds while bypassing doors in ME3.
I hated only having access to three/eventually four weapons in ME2 but I liked itâs leveling up system the most. Class restricted weapons just didnât do it for me. Being able to build your paragon/renegade level in ME1 is just weird and Iâm glad they got away from that. I do feel like ME1 and ME3 were more similar in how they did their level scaling and I really liked being able to earn a special ability from one of your teammates if you invested enough time and effort into building a rapport with them. Whereas you could just buy it in ME2.
NGL I got Flare and didnât look back at all. LMAO. What a stupidly OP ability. Banshee and Brutes? Eh toss some grenades and Flare at them and it ainât a problem anymore.
There are other things but I think Iâve spazzed out long enough over this stupid video game trilogy.
#mass effect trilogy#garrus vakarian#or as I call him#stupid sexy velociraptor#tali vas normandy#kal'reegar#I will die for this man#kaidan alenko#commander shepard#mass effect romance#because that's really the reason I was pushing through the slough of an end game at the end#fucking garrus and his fucking calibrations though#this man blue balled me at every corner#I don't think you're invested in our romance as much as I am sir#have you seen commander shepard?#why aren't you taking her against the normandy's main batteries 24/7#next time I'm romancing the sexy canadian#or the doomed to die creature from the black lagoon#look at me starting shipping wars in my tags#don't come for me because of my shitty tastes

The Bride of Denmark
Based on @encomium-emmae His Brothers Betrothed AU.Â
Read on AO3 here :)
The warm winds of summer blew life back into the hills of Jelling, taking with it the last remains of the cold winter, and continuing the renewal of spring. Both Viking and lord, child and servant could be seen about. The docks full of ships, workers in their fields from sunup till sundown. Canute loved this time of year, especially when he got the chance to fish by one of the lagoons.
His father, Sweyn Forkbeard, was particularly in the airy mood. Well, as airy as his father could get, he supposed. Forkbeards court was bustling, preparing for the arrival of particularly special guests.
When Canuteâs father had received word from Normandy as to the possible negotiation of an alliance, Forkbeard had seized the opportunity to further fortify Viking rule. The Normans were constantly seeking to establish their authority in contrast to France; and The King of the Danes needed a suitor for Canuteâs eldest brother, Harald. Therefore, as soon as summer approached, the Duke of Normandy had sent word of his travel to Denmark, bringing his sister with him.
Canute made his way toward his fatherâs hall, the sun beating down on his shoulders. His brother was there to greet him.
âAnd how is this little musling?â, Harold asked as he took Canute in a headlock. He laughed, maneuvering his way out of his brothersâ arms. âNot as well as you are about to be.â Canute clapped his brother on the back.
They both knew what the coming of the duke meant, their father had made it no secret. Harold was long overdue to be wed according to Sweyn. However, his brother had the brains of a bore in the wild. Harold was not known to take to court life, that was Canuteâs area of practice. As much as his father would prefer to have an eldest son who knew the ways of politics, Harold would rather hunt with his dogs, fight in brawls, or spend his nights in a mead house.
âI just hope sheâs not uglyâ, Harold said. Canute gave him an astute look.
âWith father as happy as he is, I would think you were honored.â Viking heritage was of the upmost importance to Forkbeard, and he did not let his sons forget. They had heard for days of how a descendent of the great Viking Rollo was to marry his son. Canute understood the burden of living up to his fatherâs expectations, and he knew Harold did as well.
Upon entering the hall, their father sat on his wood throne. A great bear skin lined the seat, its scowl matching that of the kingâa symbol of his authority. Canute and Harold made their way next to him; Canute on one side, Harold on the other. It would seem the Normans had arrived at last.
The doors rushed open. Richard, the Duke of Normandy, and a slight figure with a veil over her face entered. The duke stopped and gave a short bow, âKing Forkbeard, we are honored at your invitation.â
âWelcomeâ, Sweyn simply said, âI hope your journey was not too long.â
The duke nodded his thanks. âMay I introduce my sister, Emma of Normandy.â
The girl, for surely, she could be no more than fifteen, removed her veil. Beneath lay the most beautiful face Canute had ever seen. Light brown hair framed sharp pale features, delicate lips, and eyes blue as the summer sky outside. Compared to the wooden and rustic atmosphere, she stood like a solid beacon of light. Canute could not help but be astonished at how an angle came to be in the court of Vikings.
His father was not known for formalities, and so he said. âI received information that a possible marriage alliance was to be made, yet you bring me a girl no more ready for marriage than any other suitor, let alone to be the future queen.â
The duke blanched, but then she spoke. Canute had never thought his father more wrong. Her voiceâthough it quiveredâheld the passion and authority of one far beyond her years. âI assure you, your highness, that I am more than ready to do my duty.â Her Danish was fluent, and his father visibly was taken back.
Her brother stuttered. âI apologize, sire. My sister is very headstrong. You must forgive her insolence.â
Forkbeard only sulked further. Canute took this opportunity to speak with his father. He leaned over, âPerhaps we should offer her to stay here, in Jelling. She could learn to be accustom before the marriage is officiated.â When he rose, he glanced at his brother, who looked completely unamused.
The King pondered, letting the words sink in. âWell, we will continue our talk over some food and drink. Come, the servants have prepared a fine feast.â Â
A grand table had been filled with meats, fruit, and wines. The duke and Harald sat beside the king at the end of the table, which left Canute sitting directly across from Emma.
As they all began to fill their plates, Canute tried and failed to keep from staring at the elegant young woman across from him. She moved with poiseâa girl clearly not used to harsh conditions. This did not diminish her image in his mind. He had only been in her presence for a few moments, but he knew she was as resilient as anyone else in the room.
Finishing his sip of wine, he addressed her. âWe are honored to have you as quests here.â She paused, eyes assessing him, her glare sizing him up. Canute had to contain his grin. She was a cunning girl, that he knew for sure.
âThank you.â
Harold occupied himself with his plate, while the duke continued, meekly, to persuade Forkbeard. âYour highness, my father is very enthusiastic for this union. If I return with my sister and no alliance, he will be furious.â
Canute suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to come to her defense. How could her own brother be so inconsiderate of his sisterâs needs? How could her father? She was a girl in a strange land, and while she could speak the language, that did not mean she was ready for life in Denmark.
âMy son is nearly to his twenty fifth year, he needs a wife who is a bit more accustomed. I propose that she stays here. In the meantime, she will learn of Denmark, its people. Come autumn of her second year here, we will set a date for them to wed.â
âSire, my father will be most put off by this decision. He expectsââ
âHe expectsâ, Forkbeard interjected, âto form an alliance with Denmark. If he so wishes to, then he will meet my terms gladly.â The table went quiet.
There was very little else the duke could say. Canute knew when his father had made up his mind. He was just glad that the king had taken his advice. The duke was not so desperate as to jump to conclusions on behalf of his father, but Canute also knew the importance of this alliance for them. Normandy would not back out so easily.
The duke leaned back in his chair, sharing a silent look with his sister. âI will send word to my father of my return, and of my sisters remaining here in Demark till the time comes for her to wed.â
Forkbeard looked pleased. His brother, however, had the expression of a cat soaked in water. Surely Harald was glad to be given timeâa chance to not be thrown into a marriage with someone he hardly knew.
Forkbeard called for a servant, âPlease arrange our guests a place to sleep.â
Canuteâs gaze landed on Emmaâs again. The blue orbs piercing into a deep part of himself, awakening a fire. Behind that gaze lay a sharp and stunning mind, and Canute was overtaken by the desire to discover all its secrets.

Everything is Different
Paul Celan
Everything is different from what you think, from what I think, the flag still flutters, the little secrets are still secret, they still throw shadows, on this you live, I live, we live.
The silver coin on your tongue melts, it tastes of tomorrow, of forever, a road to Russia rises into your heart, the Karelian birch has waited, the name Osip comes toward you, you tell him what he already knows, he takes it, he takes it off you with hands, you detach his arms from their shoulder, the right, the left, you fasten yours in their stead, with hands, with fingers, with lines,
âwhat tore off, grows back together againâ you have them now, so take them now, you have them both, the name, the name, the hand, the hand, there, take them as your pledge, he takes that too, and you have again whatâs yours, what was his,
windmills
push air into your lungs, you row through the canals, lagoons, and grachten, in wordlight, no Why at the stern, no Where-to at the bow, a ramâs horn lifts you âTekiah!â like a trumpet blast above nights into day, the augurs
maul each other, man has his peace, god has his, love returns to the beds, the hair of the women grows back, the inturned bud on their breasts rises to day again, toward life-, toward heart-lines it wakens in your hand, that rose along the loinpath,â
what is it called, you country behind the mountain, behind the year? I know what itâs called. Like the Winterâs Tale, it is called, it is called like the Summerâs Tale, your motherâs Three-Year-Land, thatâs what it was, what it is, it wanders everywhere, like language, throw it away, throw it away, then youâll have it again, like that pebble from the Moravian swale your thought carried to Prague, to the grave, all the graves, into life,
itâs long gone, like the letters, like all the lanterns, you must search for it again, there it is, itâs small, it lies there, [um die Ecke, da liegt er]
near Normandy-Niemenâin Bohemia, there, there, there, behind the house, in front of the house, white it is, white, it says: Todayâcounts. White it is, white, a water- surge rushes through it, a heartsurge, a river, you know its name, the banks hang heavy with day, like the name, you scan it, with your hand: Alba.

Organization Members at An Amusement Park
Suggested by: 4ddictwithapencil. You can find the original ask here. You mentioned Disney, so letâs just assume that theyâre all in Disney world in Florida. The links for the hotels and such lead to either pictures or Youtube Vids that I could find where you can actually tour the room<3 I highly recommend looking up the hotels online if you donât know what they look like!
Xemnas
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: The Royal Suite in The Four Seasons Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Wildlife Express Train and Spaceship Earth
People move out of his way when he walks toward wherever heâs going. Lines to rides, lines to food, front seats at different attractions? They always move aside for him.
Purposely moves away from most of the Organization members to find stuff heâs interested in. Spends a lot of time in the regular exhibits instead of the actual rides
Likes a lot of the desserts that you can find across the parks, such as the Macarons aux Framboises at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in Epcot. All the fancy stuff is what heâs all about
Spends most of his time in the World Showcase in Epcot, examining the various countries. Loves going to the different shops and seeing the merchandise he can buy. Heâs the guy that buys the $1000 merchandise you always dream about getting.
Xigbar
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: Park View Suite at the Four Seasons Orlando Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Expedition Everest and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Will hit on one of the Disney princesses and get into a near scuffle with Gaston. Doesnât like to wait in lines, though, but will somehow sweet talk his way to the front of the line
Excellent at any shooting games, like the Toy Story Mania game. Will always get the highest score out of all of the Organization members.
Never goes to Disney without stopping by Italy in Epcot to get himself a bunch of cannolis or sushi from Japan. Could honestly just stay there and eat a little from each country.
That guy that uses the gym at the hotel every morning before anyone else wakes up
Xaldin
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom - or Typhoon Lagoon!
Favorite Hotel: The Cabins at the Fort Wilderness Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Jungle Cruise and DINOSAUR
Loves the animal attractions!!! Nearly gasped aloud when he found out that there was a place in Animal Kingdom where you could actually watch the vets take care of and do examinations on the animals. He thought it was awesome and super interesting!
Will get up early with Lexaeus and get the two of them coffee to start the day as everyone else wakes up. Is no longer allowed to get coffee for Zexion because Lexaeus says he gets too hyper.
Also likes the Disney Water Park, even though it gets really crowded and there are too many small children there. He doesnât care about the children themselves; itâs just that the parents donât watch them and he gets annoyed. Loves all of the water slides, though, and can definitely sit and relax with an ice cream cone at one of the lounge chairs.
Vexen
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: Any room at Disneyâs Contemporary Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Itâs A Small World and Star Tours
Unapologetically likes itâs a small world and will happily - loudly - sing the song for hours. Also likes Star Tours or anything to do with space because he finds it interesting.
Likes to spend time at Downtown Disney - and hates that they changed the name to Disney Springs. Definitely bought himself a fake, light-up lightsaber that he annoys the other members with.
Will definitely go to the spa and get a facial, complete with cucumber over the eyes and a mani-pedi to go with it.
Lexaeus
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Copper Creek Cabins at the Wilderness Lodge
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Maharajah Jungle Trek and Monsterâs Inc Laugh Floor
Gets up early and stays out at the parks late to stay with the other kiddos after the adults have all gone back to the hotels. Wants to get his moneyâs worth and wants to make sure everyone has done what they wanted to do that day.
Usually forgets to do what he wants to do, but always has fun watching other people.
Carries one of those giant reusable cups that you can refill at any Disney restaurant so thereâs something for everyone to have when they inevitably forget to refill their own drinks. Also always has a churro in one hand. He loves the damn things.
LOVES the giant Turkey legs. Once ate four in one sitting. The manager of that particular restaurant was so impressed, thereâs a small plaque with his name on it next to a picture of him and Goofy both holding turkey legs.
Zexion
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Disneyâs Boardwalk Inn
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Mission Space and Mad Tea Party
Will not go on Itâs a Small World. Never again. Those creepy ass dolls haunted his dreams for months.
When he met Belle for the first time??? Heart eyes. They talked about books for about twenty minutes until one of the Disney park guys said he had to move on because there were kids who wanted to meet the princess.
Likes to buy souvenirs, particularly if theyâre things like puzzles, books, or little Disney science experiments. Before they implemented the program where they would send your purchases directly to your room, he used to make Lexaeus carry his stuff around for him.
Saix
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Disneyâs Yacht Club Resort, The Captainâs Deck Suite
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Soarinâ and Muppet Vision 3D
Has a plan okay. Knows when each ride gets super crowded, knows which to go to first, knows what to save for last, knows which they should use their Fast Passes on, and knows when the lines for food are going to be faster and shorter. He came prepared and is ready to take on Disney World like a WWII soldier storming the Bay of Normandy.
Cannot go to Disney with the whole group. They will argue all the time and nothing will get done. Much prefers for them all to separate and go off into groups of two and three so everyone can have a good time and he can stay organized while he has fun.
Axel
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel:Â Animal Kingdom Lodge in the Royal Asante Presidential Suite
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Space Mountain and Test Track
Loves action packed roller coasters and anything that makes his adrenaline shoot up. Could ride space mountain six times in a row and not get bored.
Usually the guy who helps everyone have fun in long lines by telling jokes and playing games.
Can eat whatever he wants and will not get sick after he rides a ride, but put him on the spinning teacups and heâll get so ill and dizzy that heâll be out of commission for the rest of the day.
Demyx
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: All-Star Music Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Festival of the Lion King or Rock ânâ Roller Coaster
The man isnât really into the whole rides and excitement. I mean, yeah, he likes it obviously, and he wonât leave the park without going on all of the exciting rides at least once, but heâs more into the music and the atmosphere. Loves Hollywood Studios because of the various shows and music things, etc.
Most likely to spend his time taking pictures with and dabbing with the princesses, but Tinkerbell is his favorite person to see.
Always up for seeing any concerts in Hollywood Studios under the mickey hat.
Luxord
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: The Grand Suite at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
Favorite Ride/Attraction: The Great Movie Ride and Carousel of Progress
Kind of like Xemnas in the sense that his favorite place to be is the World of Nations in Epcot. He really enjoys just sitting outside at one of the restaurants and drinking cappuccino and people watching.
Will somehow end up spending hours at the golf course at Saratoga Springs with Xemnas or, on one memorable occasion, he joined Larxene at the spa for a massage.
Marluxia
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: The Treehouse Villa at Disneyâs Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Living with the Land and The Oasis Exhibits
His favorite thing is, obviously, the Annual Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot, but he does like looking at the animal habitats in the Animal Kingdom. Has definitely stolen a few leaves and plant buds to add to his garden at home.
Ends up chatting with someone near one of the nature exhibits and is so informatory that a crowd forms because everyone thinks that he works at the park.
Larxene
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: Bora Bora Bungalows in the Polynesian Village Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (rip this great ride) and Haunted Mansion
Anything that makes her jump and her stomach head up to her throat? Sheâs totally into. Will spend most of the time in line at the Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror trying to make the other Organization members jump.
Buys a lot of Disney merch, particularly T-shirts that she can sleep in. Theyâre so soft and comfortable and they always last a long time, so she has a growing stack thatâs taken up a permanent spot in her closet.
Roxas
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Pop Century Hotel
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Kali Water River Rapids and Splash Mountain
THE FOOD. Oh God, the food. Dole Pineapple Whip, the Gray Stuff at Belleâs Castle, the giant Turkey Legs, the churros, the mickey ice cream cones.... will want to try everything and will have a huge stomachache by the end of the day.
Loves the Lion King Musical Performance Show. He thinks itâs one of the coolest things heâs ever seen and he will absolutely be singing along with all of the songs
Xion
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: The Art of Animation Hotel
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Kilimanjaro Safari and Illuminations Light Show
A literal princess. Likes to experience a little bit of everything. The pretty colors and sights and smells and EVERYTHING are just so wonderful and new to her.
Has to get souvenirs from every single store they pass. Loves giant stuffed animals and little knick knacks because they are literally too cute for words.
Was extremely disappointed when they told her that she was too old to get a makeover at the princess boutique, but then (surprisingly) Xemnas sent them such a horrific glare for hurting her feelings that they gave her a makeover anyway. She had sparkles in her hair for the rest of the week.

Without the Heroic WWII Frogmen There Would Be No Navy SEALs
The National Navy SEAL Museum At 9 a.m. on June 14, eight days after the Normandy invasion, Lieutenant Commander Draper Kauffman and his team of frogmen motored in four landing craft toward the calm, turquoise, saltwater lagoon of Saipan. The men wore swimming trunks and were covered from head to toe in blue paint to provide camouflage in Saipanâs lagoon. Some wore knee pads and baby blue canvasâŚ

The Greatest Gardens Of 2020

A French Provincial Dreamland In West Gippsland, Inspired By Monetâs Giverny Garden!
Youâd be forgiven for thinking this house was in Normandy, because thatâs exactly where owners Bryce and Marian Somes want to transport you. Inspired by Monetâs Giverny, the Somes have been tending to this 26-acre plot in West Gippsland as an homage to the great European gardens of the fin-de-siecle. Named Picardy, the gardens are in constant bloom throughout the year, with different sections designed to flower in different seasons â and the pair of francophiles are constantly adding new parts!

A Dreamy, Generous Coastal Garden
The Mollymook garden by Dangar Barin Smith is so incredible, itâs become a tourist destination! Townsfolk and visitors alike come to marvel at the landscape, which wraps around the home (designed by MCK Architects) and contains a mix of tropical and native plantings. The best part? The absence of a fence-line â which means the lush vegetation rolls out into the ocean via a garden path that leads visitors straight down to the beach. Dreams!

A Landscape Designerâs Own Ever-Changing Garden
Of course, we would be remiss not to include the winner of the Landscape Design category of our very own TDF + Laminex Design Awards 2020 â Kathleen Murphy!
The landscape designerâs own studio garden in the Macedon Ranges is as much a place for family relaxation as it is for experimenting with new plants. Designed to frame the mountain views as well as create a verdant green vista when viewed from the house, layers of robust, textured plantings are complemented by pockets of delicate flowerings. Practically perfect in every way.

A Landscape Designerâs Own Sumptuous Green Wonderland
Sam Crawford has been working on her garden in Clarkefield for the last eight years. A trained horticulturalist and landscape designer (under Kathleen Murphy!), when her husband inherited his family property Sam scored the enormous garden. She set about transforming it into a highly original landscape, incorporating native plantings and her own ideas into a traditional country garden model. Itâs a bona-fide paradise!

A Majestic Restoration For A Legendary Heritage Garden
Allegedly designed by William Guilfoyle in the 1860s (the creator of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria himself!), this one-acre property in the Melbourne suburb of Deepdene required the perfect landscapers to undertake the historic restoration project. Ian Barker Gardens were up for the job, taking care to preserve the original plantings (some of which were over a century and a half old!) and rework a sympathetic layout with painstaking faithfulness to the original design. Itâs even listed on the National Heritage Trust!

Lily is fascinated by the relationships between plants and insects. âI go down to the garden at night to see what moths are pollinating what plant!â Photo â Amelia Stanwix for The Design Files.
An Artistâs Blissful Garden Wonderland In Daylesford
Artist and garden designer Lily Langham has been tending to her 100 acres of sprawling bushland for the last 13 years. Her artistic sensibilities inform her garden design â resulting in a meandering, intuitive and utterly delightful dreamscape. Expect the unexpected in this place: a rogue pumpkin rolled across the path, a ramshackle caravan, sheds patched together from mismatched sheets of corrugated iron. Our columnist Georgina Reid of The Planthunter sums it up better than we can:
âItâs rare to see a garden that sits so gently on the landscape. Itâs like itâs having a conversation with the soil; it couldnât be anywhere else but here. It feels true to exactly where it is.â

A Miraculous Floating Garden + Pool in Brisbane
Now THIS is a pool with a view! A collaboration between Kieron Gait Architects and Dan Young Landscape Design, the renovation to this suburban Brisbane terrace flipped the âfamily homeâ stereotype on its head and delivered a pool and garden masterfully integrated with the mountainous landscape beyond. Rough rock, native grasses and even the hint of a tropical canopy make it a standout. The artfully masqueraded car-port draped with a curtain of creepers reminds us of a Bond villainâs lair⌠in the most sophisticated way possible!

A Self-Confessed Crazy Plant Ladyâs Suburban Garden
Unusually located at the front of her home rather than the rear, this botanical laboratory in Frankston is the place Jac Semmler of The Diggers Club lets her freak flag fly. The self-confessed âcrazy plant ladyâ tests out all her ideas here in her own literal backyard, cultivating a terrain filled with whimsy, texture and randomness. Itâs a beloved neighbourhood garden â one tended with emotion, love and sheer curiosity. Just like Jac, this place has SO much personality!

A Luscious Inner Suburban Garden With An Enormous Ethereal Lagoon (In Northcote!)
The fairytale-style garden by Sam Cox looks like it could be in regional Victoria, not buried in suburban Melbourne! The centrepiece is the swimming hole: a boulder-lined, natural water lagoon that consumes the back half of the garden. Beyond the boundary line, towering natural gums conjure the illusion of bushland which, in the middle of a city, is the best of both worlds!

Normandy. So much Cayce reading vernacular it was all âthe body is/the entity hasâ. Maybe a past life there or where the barn is?
Night before Nima (!?) inviting me to a beach house party but wanting to cancel because he has always flaked on me before or ignored me? (Judging future behaviour based on past, even if it was often), when actually it was maybe a situation I was meant to surrender to because who knows who or what could happen at the party. And then someone from a different social class who I thought wouldnât be interesting to hang with (judging people based on education) who also invited me somewhere and who I had a fun time with. Then he showed me this Tank girl massive milk truck by a beautiful lagoon or lake that they live in.

A wild winter walk at Lymington and Pennington 13/01/2024
On a cold day an evocative sense of winter greeted me upon arrival at Normandy lagoon. Gaggles of Brent Geese, the unusual sight of a Bar-headed Goose and elegant Avocets filled the lagoon alongside waders such as Dunlin, Redshank and splendid Greenshank. Alongside a Greenshank I spotted another of their kind, a gorgeous Spotted Redshank with its fresh and clean light winter plumage and its lower mandible that (going from tip to base) only has the black of its upper mandible for half of the way before giving way to striking red. Here and throughout the walk I was dazzled by ducks of various colours; sunset orange Wigeon, sumptuous Pintail, male and female Teal with their dreamy colours, uniform male Gadwall, the multicoloured Shoveler and Shelduck, charming Goldeneye, Eiders male and female so symbolic of this coastal area and striking Red-breasted Merganser. Out to sea from Normandy I spotted a stark Sandwich Tern, a stalwart of the warmer and lighter months its presence in January though well known for the small numbers that overwinter a sign of our changing world. The head of a Grey Seal popping up above the water another sweet sight here.
The Normandy Spotted Redshank
Moving on towards Pennington and I got some smashing intimate views of male and female Stonechats atop gorse and bramble, chirpy birds of charismatic crimson.
Stonechat
Then grand moments arrived as after seeing one at Normandy I spotted dozens of Spoonbills, in flight and using their iconic name giving beaks to sift through the waters of the lagoons. They are captivating birds to watch and savour views of. In amazing moments as I watched one a gigantic Great White Egret flew in with its mustard dagger of a bill, an exciting moment seeing the two large birds in harmony and I enjoyed several lovely views of its smaller cousin the Little Egret on the walk too. Perhaps the same two birds I'd seen off Normandy earlier and at least the same species, two Slavonian Grebes showed in the sea close to the sea wall. I relished getting fantastic and immersive views of these decorous and charming birds which I adore. With these some of the best ever views I'd got of this species on one side and loads of Spoonbills and another Spotted Redshank swimming in the lagoon on the other I didn't know where to look.
The Slavonian Grebes
As I got nearer to Pennington the tide gradually began to draw back, and on the tidal land that was revelaed there were waders. Turnstones running along and picking at the shore, Curlew, Oystercatcher, Dunlins and Grey Plover. Looking inland and a majestic Marsh Harrier manoeuvred through the air, mobbed at every turn by Carrion Crows and others, a favourite of mine. When reaching Butts Lagoon at Pennington perhaps the greatest prize on offer here yesterday was obtained as I was euphoric to spot the male Scaup that had been around here. In full adult plumage its white side, grey back and neat as though combed head made it seem like the glass that had gone through the dishwasher compared to the similar shaggier Tufted Ducks around it. It was fabulous to see this bird. A quick sighting of my first Reed Bunting of the year, a pleasant female in the extensive reedbed of Butts lagoon and an energetic burst of the call of the Cetti's Warbler, a star at other locations a week prior added some last fond memories to a sensational wild walk and day.

Arplis - News: 20 Secret Staycation Swaps That Look Like Theyâre Abroad
Weâre here to guide you through the coronavirus lockdown. Sign up to the Life newsletter for daily tips, advice, how-tos and escapism.
Itâs safe to say our summer holidays are going to look decidedly different this year with quarantine travel restrictions in place, but that doesnât mean you canât dream about your next staycation getaway for life after lockdown.
The UK is filled with stunning landscapes, idyllic beaches, and quaint villages â itâs amazing how a few hoursâ drive really does feel like youâre getting away from it all.
We swapped some popular overseas destinations with some strikingly similar UK equivalents. Enjoy.

Are Staycations The Way Forward For Your Holiday This Year?
1. Visit West Voe Beach, Shetlands, Scotland instead of Yyteri Beach, FinlandÂ
This crescent-shaped white sandy beach of West Voe beach is sheltered by steep dunes covered in marram grass and looks out onto turquoise waters. It reminds me of Yyteri beach on Finlandâs west coast.
Yyteri has a magnificent 6km stretch of golden sands that has a wild feel and is backed by extensive sand dunes, wispy beach grass, and nearby woodlands.Â
The Shetlands has the upper hand with almost 1,700 miles of coastline and West Voe beach is one of five spots to receive a Seaside Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful. It might not be the piĂąa colada-sipping kind of beach holiday, but you can almost imagine breathing in that fresh sea breeze.
2. Visit Observatory Gully, Ben Nevis, Scotland instead of Mont Blanc, the Alps, France
Gasping for a slice of the piste? Trade your usual ski holiday in the Alps for Scotlandâs Ben Nevis, which is the UKâs highest mountain. Standing tall at 1345m, the Scottish slopes have had peak snow conditions for years where skiers, climbers, and snowboarders can tear up the slopes and take in the stunning views at the same time.
The Alps might be the more popular choice for a ski session because of its huge alpine ski region that stretches almost one thousand miles across five countries and houses thousands of ski resorts, but when flying is out of the question, sometimes youâve got to bring powder to the people right at home. We donât make the mountain rules.Â
 3. Visit Elegug Stacks, Pembrokeshire, Wales instead of Nusa Penida, Bali
Elegug Stacksâ dramatic natural rock formations will rock your world. Pembrokeshire is famed for its secluded rugged cliffs, sandy beaches and untouched woodland, which some say resembles Nusa Penida in Bali.
The largest of three exotic Nusa islands off from mainland Bali, this crystal clear bay boasts picturesque cliffs and lagoons, but it can get too busy during peak season, so take the road less travelled and opt for Wales. It might lack in infrastructure (and guaranteed sunshine), but makes up for with unspoiled natural beauty.
4. Visit High Force Waterfalls, Durham, England instead of Nauyaca Waterfalls, Costa Rica
Maybe TLC were wrong. We should go chasing waterfalls, especially when theyâre this beautiful. Fall for Durhamâs High Force Waterfalls, which is one of the most spectacular cascades in Britain and enjoy the soothing sounds of continuous water flow.
To match the roaring force of nature itâs been compared to Nauyaca Waterfall in Costa Rica, which sits in a wide canyon thatâs covered in lush greenery and offers a deep natural pool at the base where you can dive right in. You might not be able to swim at High Force Waterfalls, but the rocks are far more ancient â with origins dating back over 300 million years!
5. Visit Langamull Beach, Isle of Mull, Scotland instead of Crane Beach, Barbados
Langamull beach is home to glistening white shell sand, hidden coves and clear blue waters, which often gets mixed up with Crane Beach in Barbados. Can you spot the difference?
Voted one of the âTop 25 Sexiest Beaches in the Worldâ by The Travel Channel, the Barbados strip of powder-soft, pink-tinged sand is known for its luxury nearby resorts and villas.
But who needs the nine-hour flight to the Caribbean when we have âThe Mull of the Caribbeansâ right here on British soil? Itâs one of the islandâ best-kept secrets, steeped in rich history, bountiful wildlife and iconic scenery.Â
6. Norfolk Lavender Fields, Heacham, England instead of Provence, France
Wake up and smell the lavender. Surround yourself with acres upon acres of dusky purple-hued flowers in Norfolkâs lavender fields. They might not be as famous as their French counterpart in Provence, but you can still get your fill of calming, delicate fragrance right here in the UK.
Provence does trump Norfolk on the stunning mountain and stone backdrop, but you can always visit another year. Itâs cutting it fine, but we may catch the tail end of the season just before the lavender is harvested in September.
7. Visit Mealtfalls, Isle of Skye, Scotland instead of HĂĄifoss Waterfall, Iceland
Prepare to be entranced by Mealtfallsâs powerful stream of water that plunges straight off a cliff and down into the turquoise clear waters below. On second glance it looks just like HĂĄifoss Waterfall in Iceland.Â
HĂĄifoss is one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland and comes in at a whopping 122m high and well worth a visit once youâre able. If youâre lucky enough, you might be able to see rainbows within the mist of the main falls.
However, the good thing about Scotland is that thereâs minimal hiking required if youâre not feeling up to it and want to get straight in seeing the stunning ancient cliffs. Result.
 8. Bidean nam Bian, Scotland instead of the Asian Himalayas
Take in the breathtaking views of the majestic range of Bidean nam Bian mountains on the south side of Glen Coe. The higher you hike the more dramatic crags, ridges and summits youâll spot along the way.
It draws similarities to the lush, verdant green mountains of the Himalayas. Travel seekers looking for adventure across the other side of the globe can chase similar thrills in Scotland.
9. Visit Cockington Village, Devon, England instead of Veules-les-Roses, FranceÂ
Jokes about the name aside, Cockington is a picturesque thatched-roof village hidden away just outside of Torquay, originally founded in the Iron Age. Itâs worth taking a walk back in time along this UNESCO geopark siteâs narrow lanes and the nearby Cockington Country Park, which has bagged a Green Flag Award for the last 23 years in a row.
Cockington looks the spitting image of the lovely Veules-les-Roses village in France. A small, quaint town in the Normandy region dotted with watermills, Norman houses, and flower gardens. Lush.
10. Visit Sgwd yr Eira Waterfall, Brecon Beacons, Wales instead of Tad Mork Waterfall, Chiang Mai, Thailand
Hidden deep within the Welsh valleys of the Brecon Beacons is waterfall country where youâll be treated to towering falls left, right and centre, but the highlight is the beautiful Sgwd yr Eiraâs classic rectangular drop.
Itâs the same shape as the Tad Mork Waterfall in Chiang Mai Thailand, which looks every bit as breathtaking and serene as the photo looks. But who needs Thailand when you have an area of outstanding beauty right on our doorsteps? Itâs a 2.5-mile walk to get to the falls from the nearest village, but youâll be rewarded with magnificent falls in full flow.
11. Visit Gaping Gill, North Yorkshire, England instead of Son Doong, Vietnam
Fall in love with Gaping Gillâs 98-metre deep pothole and have a rock-solid good time. This Northern Yorkshire rocky landmark is only open twice a year, get a glimpse of one of the most complex cave systems in the UK.
Speaking of large caves, youâre going to dig Son Doong cave in Vietnam. Itâs the worldâs biggest cave measuring 1.35bn cubic feet long, itâs so big that it has its own weather system and can comfortably fit a Boeing 747 in its largest passage. Yeah, that big.
For now, all the geology lovers out there can get their fix by appreciating some of the wonders we have right here in Britain.
12. Visit Lunan Bay, Scotland instead of Cape Cod, MassachusettsÂ
Seeing double? Donât worry itâs not your eyes deceiving you, Lunan Bay in Scotland looks exactly like Massachusettsâs Cape Cod. This British beach was originally built for King William of Scotland to defend against Viking invaders and really does have it all: a magnificent sweep of sand, a cave with an arch at its northern end, and even a ruined castle.
Its American hook-shaped counterpart can be just as beautiful, with its quaint fishing villages, kitschy tourist traps, and marram grass backed beaches dotted throughout. However, Scotland edges in the lead with its cool Viking history.
13. Visit Sandwood Bay Beach, Sutherland, Scotland instead of Skallerup Strand Beach, Lønstrup, Denmark
Secluded long coastal stretch facing the ocean? Check. Huge beautiful pink sand dunes? Check. Crystal clear freshwater blue lake? Check. Hit the holiday jackpot at the picture-perfect Sandwood Bay Beach in Scotland.
And for the lottery rollover, Denmarkâs family-friendly Skallerup Strand Beach is also a winner. There are tons of activities to do here including hiking and beach fishing.
14. Visit Achmelvich Beach, Lochinver, Scotland instead of Saleccia Beach, Corsica, France
Enjoy your one-way ticket to relax town at Achmelvich Beach. Sprinkled with sandy white beaches, a ruined old mill, and a hidden cove, who would have guessed that all this was in Scotland? With its tranquil deep blue waters, it echoes something you would find in the south of France.
Do a double-take of its doppelgänger at the secluded Selaccia Beach on Corsica Island. This dazzling flash of white sand is actually on a desert part of a protected area near dense scrubland, but head north of that and youâll be rewarded with the same turquoise seas as Scotland.Â
15. Visit Castell Coch, Wales instead of Bran Castle, Transylvania, Romania
Magic by name, magic by nature. Castell Coch or âRed Castleâ near Cardiff in Wales towers high above the surrounding ancient beech woods. This 19th-century Gothic Revival castle was built upon the ruins of a medieval fortress and itâs almost impossible to tell apart from Bran Castle in Transylvania.
Perched dramatically on a hill and youâll be able to see its distinctive orange-tiled turrets and steeples rise high above the trees. Both castles have mystical properties attached to it. One is associated with wizards and witches, and the other with vampires. Weâll let you decide which is which.
16. Visit Smoo Cave, Sutherland, Scotland instead of Phra Nang cave, Krabi, Thailand Â
Go deeper underground to see Scotlandâs Smoo Cave. Its limestone scenery dominates the Sutherland region and offers a fascinating network of cave systems.
For more stalagmites and stalactite formation action, cast your eye to Phra Nang cave in Krabi. Legend says that an Indian princess was killed in a shipwreck offshore and her ghost occupied the cave, which is why itâs sometimeâs known as Princess cave. Whatever the tales are, one story thatâs set straight is that this boat access-only cave underneath a cliff surrounded by alluring white-sand beaches is legendary around Thailand.
17. Visit Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales instead of Ithaca, Ionian, Greece
Itâs not surprising that Barafundle Bay in Wales scooped up the Seaside and Green Coast Awards for one of Britainâs best beaches. From scenic walks along the impressive rocky cliffs to dramatic rock arches and rolling sand dunes, this golden half-mile crescent-shaped stretch is worth its weight in gold.
You may have visited Barafundleâs Greek twin: the island of Ithaca just off the northeast coast of Kefalonia. Ithaca is a mythical Greek island thatâs home to Odysseus and glorious views across the Ionian Sea.
18. Visit Kynance Cove, Cornwall, England instead of Costa Paradiso, Sardinia, Italy
Kynance Cove in Cornwall is known as the Jewel of the Lizard Peninsula and itâs easy to see why. From its brilliant turquoise seas, pale sandy beaches and rocky coastline, itâll soon be the jewel of your eye, too.
But donât get confused with Costa Paradiso in Sardinia. Both share a similar craggily shore, but Italyâs beach resort offers a secluded beach with panoramic views of the Mediterranean rocky terrain. Weâll take both, thanks.
19. Visit Durdle Door, Dorset, England instead of Anacapa Island, California, US
Dorset holds the key to a chilled out break in the sun. Make your way down to Jurassic Coast and peep through the stunning natural wonder of Durdle Door that defines the dramatic coastline.
Once we can travel again, 5,000 miles west of Durdle Door lies the volcanic Anacapa Island off mainland California. Here, youâll score another hole in one with another almost identical natural formation. Itâs one of the most undeveloped, but utterly magical national parks in the US.
20. Visit Portmeirion, Gwynedd, Wales instead of Loro Ciuffenna village, Tuscany, Italy
Modelled on an Italianate-style village â itâs no wonder that Portmeirion on the coast of North Wales takes after its enchanting Tuscan twin. Take a walk through this fairytale technicolour pastel village that overlooks the beautiful Dywryd estuary, woodlands and mountains.
Portmeirion looks like the charming medieval village Loro Ciuffenna, where youâll see familar rainbow-coloured buildings sitting high above the Ciuffenna river.Â

Restaurant Recommendations
Norima American Deux Plateaux Norima is a quintessential expat hang out that serves up burgers, fries, and fajitas. The friendly English speaking staff is very attentive. Normally for lunch there arenât many patrons, but come around the dinner rush and youâll be joined with a ton of international patrons! At night they also have a DJ who plays some music for the restaurant. This place is popular enough that, at the time of writing, they are in the process of expanding! Norima is an easy place to escape when youâve had enough of the poulet braisĂŠ. They also have a fairly extensive drink menu! Price: 5000 â 7000 FCFA without drinks What to get: Anything off the burger menu, wings What to skip: The tacos, salads Bushman CafĂŠ Ivorian/French RiviĂŠra 3 When youâre going out with your American friends in Abidjan, Bushman CafĂŠ is the go-to for a fun open-air dinner. Converted from an old hotel, this restaurant has been revamped and decked out with local flare, even selling some of the artwork on display. Enjoy the night time breeze while you wait for your food to be prepared in the exposed kitchen. This place is incredibly accommodating for vegetarians and offers your usual verity of Ivorian classics. Bushman CafĂŠ takes it up a notch, providing fast (a relative term here) service and expert presentation. Admittedly the beer and wine selection here is slim, but that shouldnât deter you from enjoying a bottle or two. A favourite among the expat community, youâll be sure to bump into the international community on a Friday night out! Price: 5000 â 7000 FCFA without drinks What to get: Poisson braise, brochettes Au Bord Du Lac du Tiberade Ivorian Village Abata This is where the locals come to sit lagoon side and enjoy the breeze over a classic meal. Private bungalows sit right on top of the water furnished with tables, chairs, and couches. Though this place is about 30 minutes from the centre of Abidjan, it is slowly becoming known amongst the tourists. Hopefully this destination for the true Abidjanais doesnât lose its charm as it becomes more well-known⌠and hopefully they keep their prices low! Expect deep bowls of attiĂŠkĂŠ and aloko to accompany the large plate of chicken or fish you settle on. But be prepared to spend the entire afternoon or evening here. With slow service and made to order food, you will have a while to enjoy a conversation and long meal out on the water. Price: 3000-6000 FCFA What to get: Poulet braise, attiĂŠkĂŠ, aloko La Pagode Vietnamise Marcory/Zone 4 Recognized by many as one of, if not the, best restaurant in Abidjan, La Pagode offers amazing food with exceptional service. A relatively large space and plenty of tables are filled on weekend nights. This is a fantastic place to treat yourself to a nice, upper-scale night out. This place offers a wide variety of Vietnamese and Asian food. The group that I went with had a ritual of starting with the plat royal that comes as a platter of various little appetizers. Then followed up with rice and generous plates of meat. Price: 8000-10000 FCFA What to get: Porc caramel, riz cantonais, boeuf citronelle, poulet au bamboo, plat royal, jus de gingimbre Kool Zone Dessert Marcory/Zone 4 Teleportation truly does exist as this frozen yogurt shop seems to have fallen through a worm hole that connects Hollywood to downtown Abidjan. The owner is a Lebanese, born in Abidjan, then a resident in Los Angeles for 20+ years. After visiting his family in Abidjan after his time in America, he got the idea to bring frozen yogurt, boba (bubble tea), and Thai ice cream to the CĂ´te dâIvoire. As an American from LA walking into this place, I legitimately thought I had hit my head and was having a hallucination. Heâs imported all of his machines, blenders, flavorings, and materials from the US to make it a truly authentic experience. Though admittedly he said itâs been a bit of a challenge to take on a campaign to introduce frozen yogurt to Abidjan, heâs had sure success (even besting a competitor who tried to copy his idea). Heâs bringing the newest American dessert trends to Abidjan. We sat on chairs with a fun modern design as we drank green milk tea boba, and cups of red velvet and caramel frozen yogurt. The staff is incredibly attentive and focused, the owner has personally trained his staff members to give American-grade service. I canât say enough nice things about this guy and this place, itâs a true gem in Marcory. Price: 2000-5000 What to get: Boba (they have every flavor youâd find in a boba bar back in LA), frozen yogurt, and Thai ice-cream. Restaurant Le Paon African RiviĂŠra 4 Welcome to the best restaurant in Abidjan. The combination of a romantic atmosphere, mouthwatering food, and impeccable service. Tucked behind a local car wash, walk over the red carpeted bridge and into an oasis. Outside seating in your own private cabana that can easily seat six that comes with a fan and a TV. Your server will leave you will a calling button so you can get his attention without leaving your seat. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, offering a wide arrange of meat dishes (chicken, fish, steak, and rabbit) and a multitude of sides. While you wait for your food, which wonât be long, listen to the live music that plays nightly and enjoy the ambiance. The food is by far the best Iâve had in Abidjan. We ordered the poulet au gingimbre, a huge plates of chicken bathed in a creamy ginger sauce that is incredibly tasty. I mixed the sauce in with my side orders of rice, aloco, and green beans because it was so good! Everything was done to perfection, even the aloco which they do in the oven to avoid making it too oily. With that main plate and three sides, my friend and I were truly stuffed. The owner is an incredibly kind French woman from Normandy. She made sure to come around and check on us multiple times to make sure everything was to our liking. We established a bit of a rapport with her and she told us how much she loves Americans (her parents are American and growing up a short car ride from Omaha Beach instilled a great respect for the US). And she loves California! Sheâs truly a great host and has made the top spot to go to in Abidjan. On Friday and Saturday nights there is a large open barbeque of South African meats that is also very popular. As we were there on a Wednesday night it was more quiet, but that didnât take away from the experience. Price: 6500 â 10000 What to get: poulet au gingimbre, aloco, rice, green beans, any of the steaks Delhi Darbar Indian Marcory/Zone 4 Get your Indian food fix at this authentic restaurant. Run by an incredibly kind Indian family and frequented by patrons of all backgrounds, Delhi Darbar is the spot in Abidjan for Indian food. The large seating area is matched with a TV screen playing any given Bollywood film. Bollywood music plays softly in the background as the classic smells of turmeric and curry surround you. We opted to get a few dishes and share amongst us. Portions arenât necessarily large but by the end we had a little left over that we took home. We each ordered a gravy with some rice and naan. It admittedly isnât the best Indian food Iâve ever had, but itâs incredibly decent and middle of the road, truly hits the spot after having been in a curry drought since my arrival to Abidjan. Price: 5000 â 10000 What to get: garlic naan, biryani, onion kutcha, chicken Chana Dahl, Chana curry, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala Des Gatueax et du pain French Bakery Rivièra 3 This bakery is nicer than the local ones I was going to in Brussels. This bakery is efficient, clean, well-managed, and has the tastiest treats. A favorite amongst the teachers at the international school, designer cakes and fancy whole wheat bread sits aside fancy desserts and piles of all of your favorites. Sit for a while and get a coffee or take it on the road with you. If youâre looking for a bakery this is your spot. Price: 500 â 1000 What to get: Get your pain au chocolat and chausson au pomme with some mille feuille and a coffee to go! Restaurant Seoul Korean Rivièra Golf, near the American Embassy If youâre itching for some Korean BBQ, this is going to be the place that does itâs best to scratch it. Sadly, in 2017 the grill top tables havenât yet made their way to Abidjan. But delicious kimchi and heaping bowls of Bibimbap sure have! Though it isnât a large venue, the service is incredibly fast and wait staff is moderately attentive. We had a fantastic meal with large portions, perfect fopr sharing amongst the group if you wish! Note: If you have a peanut allergy like a certain American, then be sure to triple check. Some items on the menu that donât list that they have peanuts still come with peanuts. So bring up your allergy with the waiter before you order! Price: 4000-9000 What to get: Tteok bok gi, Calamars frits, Dak gangjeong (surprise nuts), Bulgogi, Dak galbi What to skip: Chicken teriyaki Garden Lounge European, African Attoban A quite night out at an upscale restaurant that isnât pretentious? Garden lounge is one of the top restaurants in Abidjan but also easily the most popular. Cab drivers will know exactly where to go just by mentioning the name. Sit back, relax, and draw the curtains in your own private gazeebo that is furnished with plush chairs and sofas. The food is incredibly tasty and can be enjoyed slowly over a nice conversation. Service is on the slower side, but what are you going to do? Enjoy the music and privacy as you sip on some Flag, Castel, or any of the tens of different drink options this place offers (the bar is very extensive). Price: 6000-8000 What to get: Steak, Sole de Garden Quick Burger American Rivièra 3 If you find yourself at Rivièra 3 by The International Community School of Abidjan and you need a far cry of a burger, or some food to pad your stomach before a night out, Quick Burger will be just that. Although the adjective in its name is the king of misnomers, when your food comes out it will be incredibly middle of the road. Ask for the garlic sauce (a mayo aioli, sort of), that helps add flavor. No frills, no promises made nor kept, Quick Burger is what you want out of a cheap Abidjan burger joint. Price: 3000-4000 What to get: Burgers, fries, and beer

Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch hits the market with massive price cut
Jim Bartsch Michael Jackson's famed Neverland Ranch just came back on the market for $31 million, less than half its previous asking price. The property has been on the market for four years despite millions of dollars in renovations, price cuts, and a new name. It was originally listed for $100 million in 2015 and discounted to $67 million two years later. Jackson's former 2,700-acre property boasts a French Normandy-style 12,598-square-foot main residence, two guest houses, a lake, a 50-seat movie theatre, a tennis court, a 14-foot lagoon-style pool, a barn, and a Disney-themed train station. from Business https://www.chron.com/technology/businessinsider/article/We-took-a-look-inside-Michael-Jackson-s-13650565.php
