shiloh! he’s a breeder who’s favorite commissions are shinies, but he breeds for competitive stats too. occasionally he runs into fun genetic mutations, like two shiny zorua tumbling out of the same egg, but one looks a bit… odd. ofc he kept them!

shiny buneary and absol were his two firsts- happy accidents in the wild, several years apart! ponyta was bred and carries eggs close to her hot body, and sentret was hunted wild and evolved, now serving as his mount.

he makes good money so he’s all name brand baby. uncropped size comparisons below!

furret is huge and mischievous so there rlly isn't anything Shiloh can do to keep it out of trouble LOL

absol was very much an accident; Shiloh and his buneary had wandered too far into the mountains and absol helped to guide them away from danger. seeing another strangely colored pokemon like itself, it followed them home and Shiloh was all too pleased to keep it. he doesn't battle, so it was entirely absols choice to stay.

ponyta has egg holsters bc she's wayyyy too energetic to have to just sit around for her flame body to help with hatching eggs..! she's a space heater on the go. Shiloh has some decent land out in the country to breed on so she's got a pretty big field to roam.

lopunny. 😳 she's like a scout, keeping Shiloh's land patrolled and safe for the baby pokemon and eggs everywhere. she's the only one of his pokemon that battles, and she does it autonomously; he isn't much of a trainer lol they're partners! buneary was his first pokemon. he came across it and was so surprised and intrigued by her coat that he came back often until he had eventually befriended her.

the zorua twins are for fun. to call him a hisuian zorua might be an overstatement; I think of it like a genetic mutation that calls back to the fur texture of his ancestors? I don't know if his typing is actually different; his palette is just like normal zoruas! I figure if all you do all day is breed pokemon, then eventually you're going to run into mutations besides just shiny palettes, and they're his trophies when they happen!!!

Buneary is an adorable adorable bunny that hates you the minute you catch it. It is the only pokemon other than legendaries that has a base friendship of 0. In one of the more recent pokemon games, you can catch a buneary (typically a tiny bunny) that is larger than your player character. I love the pokemon buneary.

bunearies are. adorable. and full of hate. If you don’t vote for buneary then I will not have to do anything to you because buneary can and will beat you up. don’t test her she can jump over a building and kick you in the face if you look at her wrong. vote buneary.

• I couldn’t see a better fit for him. Also, it’s shiny is purple and black which is cute, but it’s also has seven weaknesses because it’s Grass/Dark.

Trey - Delta Dewbble (Cake Variant) -> Delta Crustle

• Also a Pokémon that fit him. Look at it, it’s literally a cake. The hero of Unbirthday parties. It also uses the fork on its back to fend off thieves. It’s a Fairy/Normal type.

Cater - Delta Kirlia -> Delta Gardevoir

• I know what some of you will say why am I giving Cater a very Vil coded Pokémon. Truth is, I have a different Pokémon in mind for Vil. Delta Gardevoir is the Nuzzle Pokémon, legit so cute for pictures and in Delta Kirlia’s dex entry, it says it loves dancing to swing music, and when it’s excitement goes up, it starts producing electric sparks and snow! Electric/Ice type!

• However, I don’t see him using Mega Evolution regardless of how cute it is.

Ace - Delta Petilil (Fairy) -> Delta Lilligant

• …Where do I even start… Ace gave me trouble when deciding on which Delta to give him. And I had narrowed it down to Delta Petilil or Delta Pikachu. If any of you have a better Delta to give him, go for it. I give up on thinking. Regardless, both Delta choices are Fairy/Flying.

Deuce - Delta Buneary -> Delta Lopunny

• Delta Buneary’s dex entry makes it more Ruggie coded, because it steals from people and either of its abilities literally Pickpocket or Frisk. But as a Lopunny, it would have found inner peace and fights when necessary. Like Deuce! It’s pure Fighting.

jesse canonically gloats to krazy 8 about some mean nasty dog he owns when faced with the other's rottweiler. seeing as we never see this dog, i like to think it's actually the most innocent lil puppy we ever did know, the family dog <3

Another day, another contest. Back to back performances are brutal, but the season of competition keeps eyes on the theater. Today the finalists from Ultra rank will be showing off their skills. I'm still down in Normal rank with a Beldum that doesn't have a name. Weirdly, I don't feel too worried about it.

The judges are the same as last time, so I know my fake routine isn't going to work. This time I try to let my Beldum's natural cuteness shine, but it's all steel and eyeball. Take down doesn't get any applauds. I let my partner shift about the room, frolicking on electromagnetic waves guided by my exertions. Once again, I overdo it, but my showing is over. Beldum has to help me keep my balance.

Riko walks onto the stage with her Buneary and the change is noticeable. Buneary is throwing her head up with sass and it catches the judge's attention right away. Her moveset is different, her routine is rough, but the energy is raw and natural. It's entertaining in that way that a wobbling figure skater is.

Raul isn't in the Normal ranks. I'm alone with my meal and my berries. Beldum is doing alright, but I'm feeling the sway of every breath. My psychic abilities aren't strong enough for this. I need to super charge my brain and I don't even know anyone who could teach me how to do that.

Riko walks over to my spot by the planter. She crouches down low to wave and I nod.

"I should thank you for your advice the other day. Training with Mimi has never been that easy or fun. I always had to fight with her, to push her to get her to tilt her head or do anything cute. Yesterday, it was like I finally got to meet Mimi for the first time."

"Well, she takes after you," I say with a smile.

That makes her pout and she jabs a finger at me. "You can shut your mouth if you're not gonna say anything nice! I was trying to thank you!"

I can't help but laugh and I have to lean back to catch my breath.

"Nope, it is psychic fatigue," I explain with my eyes closed. "I'm not used to putting out so much power all at once. You wouldn't happen to be a psychic, would you?"

"No. Sorry. Maybe you need to train your Beldum differently. It can understand verbal commands, can't it?"

"Yeah, but it..." I open my eyes to contemplate her words. Maybe all of my fancy training is a waste of time. I reach into my bag to pull out my laptop and my Poketech X buzzes.

Last night Spiral let me know that she was going to Koynlab at 11. I set an alarm for 11 in case I was available. Win or lose, I'm not going to be able to continue.

"You know, I was talking to you," says Riko.

"Yeah, and I'm gonna have to take off." I stand up and the rush of stars is real. "You think there's any chance I made it to the-"

Riko isn't looking at me. The kid has her arm held out. Her Rotom-phone is extended towards me with unspecified purpose.

"What are you doing?"

Riko acts annoyed as she explains the obvious gesture. "I'm exchanging numbers with you, but only so that I can tell you how low your ranked."

Poketech X interacting with a Rotom-phone is fast. All I have to do is tap my wrist watch against the Rotom and the Pokémon uses its power to send the information. I don't really get how it works and that scares me. Ignorance to technology makes me feel old and even more irrelevant.

"Thanks, Riko. I'm sure you'll get high marks today."

I'm all the way down the stairs before Riko speaks up. "Today was better. What you did with your Beldum was better. You needed to practice more, but I think the judges liked it. I still think you're wasting your time, but I guess if you're going to fail no matter what, you should try your hardest."

"Thank you, Riko. I'll keep that in mind." I wave bye to the kid and gather my will. Meeting up with Spiral feels foreboding.

I don't know why I'm so tense walking into Slateport's business district. I have six Pokemon on me. Even with Beldum and Connie taking up two slots I'll be alright. I still have enough Pokemon for a three on three battle, with one to cover my exit -- should the need arise. The last time I met with Spiral it was fine. Well, it wasn't fine but we didn't battle. She has to know I probably have Roi, my Tyrantrum, but the rest of my team should be a mystery. Edvard, my Shiinotic, and Sorrowfell, my Gengar, gives me two options for a decent stall.

I wonder if I should go to the Pokémon Center and switch both of them out for Ferrothorn, but she's been in a box since I was battling seriously. She might come out aggro and confused to find her trainer ten years older and sporting a beard. I'm just gonna have to trust the Diela is strong enough to deliver hurt. Conkeldurr's aren't popular, but they hit hard and mine was one of the best. She could hit strong as a champ's and had a good sense of where blasts were gonna come in. If this fight gets serious, I can trust on Diela to make some space and Roi to give me the speed to get out of here.

But there isn't any fight coming. I am in the business district imagining fights because I'm fatigued. I take a seat outside Koynlabs, and wait for Spiral's exit.

Sam’s New Year Sale 2023: Ramshackle’s Visit

i was kinda disappointed that we didn’t get a chapter for ramshackle for the new year’s event, so i went ahead and wrote this xD it was a quick one and it’s not proofread but i think it’s fine. happy belated new year’s everyone!

The New Year had arrived, and with it, the ever popular Sam’s New Year Sale. After nine long days of crowds and brawls, tears and joy, the tenth and last day of the sale was upon them. However, Deuce and Kalim couldn’t relax just yet. With it being the final day of the sale, people were desperate to get their hands on the famous mystery bags for a chance to find an Amazing Ticket. The shop was absolutely packed to the brim, with the line stretching out farther than even the first day of the sale.

“Please stay in line if you want to buy a mystery bag! We still have plenty for sale!” Deuce cried over the noise of the crowd.

“Thank you very much! Here’s your mystery bag!” Kalim thanked the customer in front, handing him a mystery bag.

Deuce walked over, taking a breather from handling the mystery bag line.

“Phew…I know we’ve gotten used to this, but today is really insane,” he said.

“For sure,” Kalim agreed, wiping a bit of sweat from his forehead. “But it’s the last day, so let’s push for the goal, Deuce!”

Deuce nodded enthusiastically. “You got it, Asim-senpai!”

They both got back to work but moments later, they were pulled away when something hopped up to them looking a little frustrated.

“Bun, bun!”

Deuce nearly stepped on it before stumbling back to avoid it.

“W-Whoa! That surprised me…w-what is that…?”

A brown bunny with white fluff around the tips of its ears and its torso stood in front of him.

“Ooh! It’s so cute!” Kalim exclaimed. “Hey there, little bunny! Mind if I pet you?”

“Buneary!”

The bunny shied away from his touch, hopping away to hide between someone’s legs. The two boys looked up and saw Yuu and Grim in the line for the mystery bags. She caught their eyes and waved at them.

“Hey, guys!” She greeted them with a smile. “Happy New Year!”

“Yuu, Grim! Happy New Year!” Deuce and Kalim greeted her back.

Kalim ran over and hugged her while Deuce gave her a wave.

“Myaha! You two look super worn out,” Grim snickered. “I’d hate to be you guys right now.”

Deuce lightly whapped him on the head. “Anymore out of you, and you’re not getting a mystery bag.”

“Fugna! That’s abusing your power!”

“You guys look great in those hakama,” Yuu complimented them.

The two boys blushed, with Deuce rubbing his head sheepishly and Kalim giving her a big grin.

“Thank you. I’ve been getting used to it,” the bluenette said.

“I like how roomy the sleeves are! It’s a lot of fun swinging them around when they aren’t tied back,” Kalim said.

“They fit you both so well,” Yuu said, smiling. “It’s nice to see them. It reminds me of the times I went to Johto for New Year’s.”

“Oh, so you’ve got these too,” Deuce mused.

“Say, Yuu, is this bunny yours?” Kalim asked, pointing to the brown bunny.

“Is it possibly…?” Deuce trailed off.

Yuu nodded and put down Grim in favor of bringing the bunny into her arms.

“This is Buneary, and she’s a Pokemon like you guessed,” she replied. “I found her wandering around the woods near Ramshackle yesterday.”

She took out her Pokedex and played Buneary’s entry for them.

“Buneary, the Rabbit Pokemon. Normal-type. When it feels danger, it perks up its ears. On cold nights, it sleeps with its head tucked into the fur on its body.”

“Is she yours?” Deuce asked.

Yuu nodded. “Yup, she somehow found her way here just like my other Pokemon.”

Grim rubbed his cheek, grumbling. “And she punched me when Yuu found her. I can still feel it!”

“That’s because you were all up in her face,” Yuu reprimanded him

“It’s so mysterious how they find their way here,” Kalim said, staring at Buneary. “Can I pet her?”

Buneary turned away, hiding her face in Yuu's chest. Yuu gave Kalim an apologetic smile.

“Sorry, Kalim-senpai, but being in this line has made her a bit upset. All the people pushing and shoving in the shop are tiring her out. I wanted to leave her at Ramshackle so Empoleon could look after her, but she really wanted to stay with me. She’s still scared about being sent to an unknown place.”

“Aww, the poor thing,” Kalim lamented. “Maybe I’ll get Jamil to whip up some nice sweets for her! Sweet things always cheer me up! I’ll go have someone get him for me!”

Yuu let out a small laugh, already feeling sorry for Jamil for Kalim’s very short notice on sweets.

“Thanks, senpai, but it can wait until after you’re done working,” she said, trying to ease the vice-dorm leader’s workload.

Back in Scarabia, Jamil felt the sudden need to thank Yuu somehow, someway.

“But man, it sure is crowded. It gets crowded in Ecruteak City on New Year’s too, but geez!”

Yuu grunted as someone squeezed past her, his mystery bag in hand.

“Are you also hoping to get an Amazing Ticket?” Kalim asked.

“We haven’t seen one since we started working,” Deuce said.

“You betcha!” Grim answered. “I’m gonna have my henchman exchange it for a mountain of premium tuna cans!”

“No, I'm not,” Yuu immediately shot him down. “For the record, I’m hoping to get some bakeware or maybe that cute dress I saw in town from a mystery bag. If I actually do find one, then I’m hoping to get a magic tool.”

“A magic tool?” Deuce and Kalim asked simultaneously.

“Yeah, I read about it in a book before. It’s like a projector, but it makes the space seem like you’re actually in a fancy mansion or, like, the beach. I wanted to get one to see if I could somehow get it to look like places from back home. It’d really help me and my Pokemon feel a little less homesick, y’know?”

Yuu pet Buneary on the head, a small sad smile on her face before she shook her head to rid herself of that prickling feeling of homesickness. Deuce and Kalim stared at her quietly, feeling her pain. They still hadn’t found a way to send her back to her world, and they knew that she would no doubt get more homesick the longer she was stuck in Twisted Wonderland.

“I could get it for you,” Kalim offered. “I don’t mind at all!”

Yuu’s eyes widened and she immediately shook her head. She knew how rich Kalim was (if her trip to the Scalding Sands for Al’ab Nariya was anything to go by) and she didn’t want to mooch off him. Not to mention that he would no doubt throw in a bunch of extra gifts because he wanted to. She wouldn’t know what to do if he gave her a chest full of jewels and golden peacock trinkets.

“I appreciate the offer, Kalim-senpai, but I’d like to get it myself if possible,” she said quickly. “Besides, I’m also happy to just get whatever I get from the mystery bag.”

“And if she doesn’t want it, I’ll gladly take it!” Grim exclaimed.

The two boys gave her a soft smile, but the moment was ruined when someone in the back of the line started shoving people and causing a chain reaction in the line.

“Hey, I was here first!” a Heartsabyul student cried.

“You sure about that? Sure didn’t seem like it with you zoning out there,” a Savanaclaw student smirked.

They started scuffling, making everyone try and step away from them and only squeezing everyone else in.

“Gah! I’m getting crushed!” Grim howled.

“B-Bun…bun…!”

In Yuu’s arms, Buneary started getting more and more fussy with everyone squeezing in even tighter than they were before. Her trainer started to rock her in an attempt to soothe her.

“It’s going to be alright, Buneary,” Yuu managed to wheeze out. Oh, Arceus, she felt like her lungs were going to get crushed.

“Bun…bun…BUNEARY!!”

Buneary jumped out of Yuu’s arms and headed straight for the fighting students, who had also drawn in other students into the brawl.

“Buneary, no!” Yuu cried.

“What the hell?!”

“Hey, get this thing outta here!”

“Wha–OOF!!”

The Savanaclaw instigator got a faceful of Buneary’s Dizzy Punch and he stumbled back. The Heartsabyul student took this chance to get in his own punch on the guy. That Dizzy Punch and right hook only escalated the brawl. The Savanaclaw student put a hand where he got punched and growled, trying to catch Buneary.

Deuce put his own hands on his head. “Crap! At this rate, the whole shop is going to get wrecked!”

Yuu tried to push her way through the crowd. “I have to go get her! She’s getting more stressed out!”

“Don’t worry! We’ll just do what we’ve been doing these past ten days!” Kalim exclaimed confidently, putting a hand on her shoulder. “Just leave it to us. It’s our job to get things organized after all!”

The two boys dove into the fray, with Deuce intimidating the brawling students while Kalim looked underfoot for the small Rabbit Pokemon. Deuce was especially intimidating today since Yuu and her Pokemon were involved, and it allowed Kalim to weave around the crowd much more easily. Eventually, everyone settled down and Kalim emerged triumphantly from the crowd with Buneary in his arms.

“I got her!”

Yuu hurried to him and took Buneary from his arms.

“Thank you so much, senpai!” she thanked him, bowing her head gratefully.

“Next time, settle things peacefully,” Deuce snarled to the troublemakers.

Cowed by the delinquent aura he let out, the troublemakers meekly nodded their heads. Deuce nodded his head and got everyone back into a neat line before heading back to the front of the line where Yuu was.

“You guys alright?” he asked.

“Yeah, we’re fine. Kalim-senpai got Buneary out of there before she hurt herself,” Yuu replied.

Kalim flashed them a bright smile. “It’s a good thing you got everyone settled down, Deuce. Nice job!”

“Thank you, Asim-senpai. Now, let’s get back to business!”

Deuce handed Yuu her mystery bag as he took her money. The prefect gratefully took her bag and hurriedly retreated outside for fresh air and to calm down Buneary. When the crowd thinned out she came back inside, another bag in hand.

“Good work, you two,” she said, handing the bag to Deuce. “I went back to Ramshackle to grab some malasadas and hot chocolate I made earlier. You must be tired.”

“Oooh! Malasadas are those donut-like things, right? Thanks, Yuu!” Kalim thanked her with a hug that she returned.

Deuce let out a sigh of relief. “Yeah, thanks a bunch. I was starting to get hungry.”

They took a break in the backroom, inviting Yuu to come along with them to the back. She poured them some hot chocolate and they all took a sip with a relaxing sigh.

“Haah…I feel alive again,” Deuce exhaled.

“For sure,” Kalim agreed.

Yuu put her mystery bag on the table and opened it, the two boys watching in anticipation. She peered into the bag and smiled brightly.

“Oh! I got a tray for making madeleines! Oooh, and an embossed rolling pin!”

She happily took out her goodies, looking them over with sparkling eyes.

“Nice, you got what you wanted!” Kalim beamed.

Grim groaned. “I would’ve preferred getting tuna cans, but I guess this is fine.”

“Clover-senpai would’ve loved to get that bag,” Deuce chuckled. “He was hoping to get cookware, but got sweets instead.”

“Haha, that’s so like him,” Yuu giggled.

Buneary peered into the bag and blinked.

“Bun, buneary.”

She pulled on Yuu’s sleeve, getting her attention and pointing at the bag.

“Hm? Is there something else inside?” she asked, opening the bag again.

She stuck her hand inside and felt some sort of small thin paper. Curiosity filled her as she pulled her hand out of the bag to see what it was. In her hand was a purple and black ticket with the Mystery Shop logo on it and the word “Congratulations!” on one side and “Amazing Ticket” on the other.

Silence fell over the group as everyone blinked at the ticket before realizing what they were looking at.

“EEEEEHHH?!” they all cried.

“I-It’s actually real?!” Deuce spluttered.

“Whoa! I can’t believe it!” Kalim laughed.

“Fugnaaaa! My lifetime supply of premium tuna cans isn’t a dream anymore!!” Grim jumped up and down, celebrating the find.

Yuu marveled at the ticket in her hand, bringing it up to the light as if to check if it was real or not.

“I-I can’t believe it…” she whispered. “I hardly ever get rare stuff in gacha! I think I just used up my luck for the year…!”

“Congratulations, my little imp!”

“WAH!!!”

They all jumped when Sam appeared out of nowhere. He put his hands on Yuu’s shoulders, patting them.

“You’ve found the Amazing Ticket, which means you can exchange it for anything you want!” he proclaimed. “And I can get my hands on just about anything. What is it that you desire, my little imp.”

“U-Um! That magic tool that’s like a projector…” Yuu stuttered, still surprised that she even got the ticket.

Sam winked at her, a wide smile on his face. “You got it, my little imp. I know what you’re looking for, and I’ll get it to you lickety-split!”

“Wait, what about my tuna?!” Grim’s complaints went unheard as Deuce and Kalim both slung an arm around Yuu’s shoulders.

“Congrats, Yuu!” Deuce congratulated her. “You actually found the Amazing Ticket! That must mean something good is gonna happen this year.”

“Yeah, and I’m gonna throw a party to celebrate your find!” Kalim cheered. “What would you like? I can bring in birds that warble on key! Oh, and I could bring in 75 golden camels and 53 peacocks!”

“T-There’s no need to go that far,” Yuu told him. “We can just celebrate with our friends with a small party. It’ll be fun and I can make some more malasadas for it.”

“That sounds great!”

When news spread that someone had found an Amazing Ticket, everyone started wondering who the lucky person was. Yuu’s friends were the only ones who knew that she was the one who got it. A few of them lamented the fact that they couldn’t get their hands on it. Azul in particular, almost sulked enough that he wanted to brood inside an octopus pot.

Anyway undersiders Pokemon au team themes/types

Taylor: While the obvious choice is bugs, thatz wrong she runs normal monotype, probably 2 set up sweepers with guts or guts equivalent, (staraptor and zangoose as two very common pokemon with flavor about punching up a stupid amount and being solitary as they grow stronger but stil seen as not much. Also zangoose bitter rivalry vs the knife snake). Buneary that never ever evolves because she received it as a gift from Emma and she sorta kinda hates it. Hisuian zoarark to lean into the half feral, rabid, violence from the outside looking in while actually utilizing trickery and plans to not get stomped into the ground. She barely scrapes by when her setup sweeps fail and has very little plan outside of that though <3. Unrelated but Danny has a komala that interacts with Taylor more than he does

Lisa: Poison/Psychic mashup. Leans status team with only a single heavy hitter in the form of either an alakazam or gothitelle. Probably runs a mirror coat+counter wobaffet. Other than that, she has a crobat she inherited from her brother. It bites her very often and she pretends not to notice while still letting it drink her blood because I love irony(metaphor? probably a metaphor). I want to give her poipolr because it seems fun but alas alternate dimensions

Alec: Slaking. This bothers Taylor. Also, a Shedinja that he gets later with Aisha's ninjask. Rotom that possesses whatever electronic would be the most inconvenient for everyone else, and a mawile. He only gets three at most though+that Shedinja because he doesn't have to take care of it. I was originally going to lean into the more fucked up fairy types like grimmsnarl, shiinotic, and the aforementioned mawile, but that seemed too consistent. Heartbreaker is a fairy type trainer though and Alec got the mawile from him

Brian: Some big ol guys. He has the most theoretically dependable and consistent team in a defensive sandstorm+hazard team. Gigalith to set up sandstorm, aggron or sand stream tyranitar as an ace, with a metang as a secondary attacker. Bronzong for screens. Either an orthworm or skarmory for hazards. The team loses effectiveness very quickly when someone sets up a different weather effect because he doesn't have a way to set up sandstorm again

Rachel: Dogs. Arcanine, stoutland, snubull, houndoom. These two aren't dogs but she also gets either an ursaluna of an obstagoon. She has the most type coverage of any of the undersiders and does very well against anyone she does battle, but the commodity nature of battles and overall softness of the universe in pokemon mean she should have the luxury to not the engage in violence, so she just runs a breeder+shelter somewhere on a ranch and never meets the undersiders except maybe Taylor looking at some puppies

Aisha: She doesn't have a consistent theme besides bright, attention grabbing, and probably fast. Confident about a noivern+Jolteon+a very very loud bronzong. Probably a ninjask. I then get significantly less confident about a haunter and mimikyu.

Lily: Escavalier. Let's then lean into the precision with a mienshao and medicham. That's all she has when first meeting the undersiders, but she gets a bisharp and hisuian litigant later. March has an accelgor and it's her pokemon that wants to skin suit lily's Escavalier due to the whole stealing armor thing that accelgor and Escavalier do. March is still stalkery but it takes the form of keeping her in a basement. Lily starts as a gym trainer, Legend's probably, and wants to run the league circuit, but no shows the tourney after the first match to hang out with Sabah

Sabah; Not a battler, doesn't go on a journey so does the whole pokemon civilian thing of only 1-2 pokemon. Those are a mimikyu she makes costumes for and an aradios.

taylor: i can't legally repeat what they said about this one because it wasn't very nice but the gist of it boils down to "picking Not bug types for taylor is trying to be subversive for no reason, yes the bug-themed character would use bug-type pokemon, come the fuck on"

lisa: gothitelle is a good pick, she runs mind games & support pokemon because that's her role on the team. doesn't type-limit herself but does pick an aesthetically and functionally coherent team. aiming for the intimidation factor and then to pull the rug out beneath her opponents feet. also see this scarfnote

also the more that I think about it the more that I think Yeah Lisa would absolutely have perish trap as an option for her team. you kinda have to if you’re a gothitelle user I mean you don’t have to but since that’s the only good shadow tag pokemon it’s a nice option even if it’s not your main draw Lisa’s whole thing is that she, like Brian, does not have much firepower, but she’s incredibly perceptive/charismatic enough to trap you on the field and talk you into a corner until you’ve made your own bed and it’s too late to bounce back. perish trap is a team archetype that relies on smart positioning and stalling, both of which are things Lisa excels at

alec: trying to avoid the fucked up fairy types is again subversive for no reason. only has one pokemon because he's too lazy (read: chronically depressed) to take care of more, and it's a hatterene (googled 'fairy type' and went for the first aesthetically-pleasing result he saw). how well it meshes w/ him is a pleasant coincidence. he named it something really stupid to the point where people question if he even cares about it but it's his best friend and they cuddle together every night and also own matching pajamas. had some kind of tiny cute fairy pokemon before he left heartbreaker but couldn't take it w/ him when he left, subsequently memoryholed it forever

brian: i'm just gonna. quote them because i understand next to none of this

"extremely reliable and dependent" cannot work with a monotype/weather team im sorry but pigeonholing yourself into one theme only makes your weaknesses more apparent. Brian’s team would be one that primarily consists of pivot pokemon that can take/redirect hits so that his teammates can get in a safe position. pokemon with defensive abilities/type immunities/substitute/protect, etc. all of those would be the Most Consistent pokemon that can eat hits from opponents while allowing the other undersiders to set up safely. the only pokemon I agree with on your lineup is orthworm, because of the earth eater ability + shed tail. other pokemon would be gastrodon for storm drain, amoongus for powder immunity/spore/rage powder/regenerator. Brian’s pokemon are constantly switching in and out of battle, he does not have much in the means of firepower, but that’s okay because he doesn’t in canon either. AND gholdengo I literally wrote that and forgot to put it lmao. good as gold is an insane ability + ghost/steel typing is solid defensively. this would probably be his only avenue of offensive pressure with make it rain, but I can’t see him using it too too often as, like I said, he’s pivoting a lot. if he reads a status move incoming, he’s sending that thang out he would also probably have an intimidate user on hand since those work really well with switching teams, but I can’t think of a great one off the top of my head right now

also tacking on my own addendum that brian's deal is "guy who is trying so hard to LARP at being pragmatic and normal and responsible despite repeatedly making some sort of objectively batshit risky decisions" so he's 100% like. super dependable consistent team but with a bit of flair he repeatedly tries to pull off nuts-specific shit with. and also he runs that shit like the military

rachel: the scarf verdict is dogs. all dogs. all dogs and you are out of your mind if you think she has anything but dogs. this is her Thing even more than bugs are taylor's thing. most offense-heavy & aggressive team. has Literally Every Dog Pokemon. all of them. has an arcanine that used to be brian's but she was so fucking insufferable about criticizing his care of it that he just fuckin' gave it to her

aisha: theme is "most annoying little fucks humanly possible." Annoying Little Freaks Menagerie, just like she collects in canon w/ the heartbroken. bright and attention grabbing is...the opposite of what she does while fighting? so absolutely not that. impidimp (duh), sableye, approximately 13 phantumps, and one (1) shiny yamask that may or may not be her dead best friend. and yes, she does let it possess her sometimes for fun!

Hah, you know the funny thing is I didn't know it for the longest time. Clove was just a wild Buneary I would see out by the edge of the city sometimes, he was kinda sick when i first met him i think, his colors were real washed out. I tried to take him home a few times when I was a kid but that ended about as well as you would expect for a kid trying to just pick up a wild Buneary.

Looking back at it he was probably kicked out of his warren and pushed out of the good grazing areas for being a different color. I ended up feeding him most days when I could get away from everything, just sitting with him in an alley and talking at him, hah. I didn't really think anything of it when he changed colors- or i guess his color came back, it was so gradual you know?

It wasn't until one day a couple years in that he started trying to follow me home that I really found out. I saved up enough to buy a pokeball without mom finding out and caught him. It wasn't until dad told me that I even knew that wasn't just a normal color for them hah. I did gt in trouble for it, but I got to keep him in the end, so I win. :)

pokémon trainer! au x ahn yujin

you didn’t usually stay at school this late, but exam season was different, as always. you had managed to last 3 hours in the library before you noticed you left your calculator in class, so now here you were, your buneary hopping beside you as you headed back to your home room.

your hopes that the class was empty were dashed when you heard a voice chattering away, and your heart sank further when you heard it was yujin. you didn’t know what you could have done to her, but for some reason she always had it out for you, constantly trying to one-up you whenever you were chatting. 

even that morning, she had started on some spiel about normal types that was clearly meant to get to you. you had no idea why she would be like this, especially considering how bright she was with everybody else. she didn’t even have much of an interest in pokemon, it was only your pokemon that she knew all about for some reason.

as you got closer to the class, her words became clearer, and you figured she must just be talking to herself. 

‘i wasn’t that harsh was i, hap? i didn’t mean it obviously, but i don’t know they did look pretty upset. hey, i was just trying to tease, not be horrible!’ 

her various outbursts were interrupted by the chatter of her happiny. you figured you’d have to bite the bullet and go in sooner or later, so you slipped in the back door of the class as quietly as possible, only to hear her happiny giggle as you crossed the room. yujin whipped her head around, almost turning scarlet when she saw you. you tried to smile at her, hoping she would go easy on you after such a long day. 

but she said nothing, smiling back awkwardly and turning back to hunch over her desk. her happiny was still giggling, but you ignored her and went to your locker, opening it up to retrieve your calculator. you also saw a note, which you picked out and put in your pocket for later, turning to leave and calling a faint goodbye to yujin. 

you read the note once you were about halfway down the corridor, a safe distance, as you calculated it.

More Australian Fakemon

More Pokemon from by region based on Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand (mostly Australia though). This time I'm going to show off some (but not all) of the early game standards. Also, I have finally named my region. It will be the Goorda region, which is the word for "island" in the aboriginal Noongar language.

Previous entries: starters, regional starters, misc 1, and misc 2

The early-game mammal is Sleepossum, the sleepy Pokemon, normal type. It's based on a bush tail possum with some traits of opossums, the only extant marsupial of the Americas. Possums are a large group of arboreal marsupials and it's only fitting that such a common critter should be the Rattata equivalent of this region. Sleepossum spends most of its time asleep and has learned to fight and move even without waking up, though it prefers to flee. It cuddles its own tail while sleeping. Because they are cute and docile, they are a popular choice for new trainers. Its name comes from "sleep" and "possum". The sleeping trait is an exaggeration of the opossum adaptation of playing dead.

Sleepossum evolves to Somnossum, the sleepwalker Pokemon, normal/psychic type. It spends its entire life asleep, but it dreams about the world around it, letting it move and act as though awake. Some say its dreams are connected to the dream world, allowing it to gain insight on the past and future. Its tail acts like a cushion for it to sleep on. Its name comes from "possum" and "somnambulist", which is the technical term for a sleepwalker. Sleepossum and Somnossum inherit the Comatose ability formerly unique to Komala.

The Pikachu clone is Bilbolt, the bilby Pokemon, electric type. Its based on bilbies, a type of animal related to bandicoots that are endangered I mostly picked the bilby because it's cute. Bilbolt is very much based on Pikachu, mostly being "what if Pikachu were a bilby". Bilbolt is a shy and reclusive herbivore that can electrify it muscles to give itself a sudden burst of speed when in danger. Its fur channels a slight electric current, which can cause tingling and numbness if touched for too long. Bilbolt comes from "bilby" and "bolt".

Since SV gave the green light for Pikachu clones to evolve, Bilbolt will evolve into Cerebulb, the mad scientist Pokemon, electric/psychic type. Cerebulb is very obviously based on a mad scientist, with its poof of Einstein hair, fur that looks like a lab coat, and eyes that look like big glasses. It is also based on the trope of a lightbulb appearing over someone's head when they get an idea. Cerebulb can electrify its hair to stimulate its brain, increasing its intelligence while decreasing its inhibitions and sanity. It will often perform strange experiments during this time. You can tell it's stimulating its brain because its hair will glow brightly like a lightbulb. Its name comes from "cerebellum" or "cerebral" and "lightbulb".

For the early game dark type (think Poochyena, Purrloin, or Nickit) we have a regional form of Buneary, the rabbit Pokemon, dark type. Rabbits are one of the worst invasive species in Australia, ranked as most destructive in one study. Alolan Meowth and Rattata also set a precedent for Pokemon based on invasive species to be dark type. When Buneary were introduced to Goorda by foreign trade, they flourished in a land with fewer predators and started outcompeting native Pokemon, becoming an invasive species. They lost their timid and shy nature, instead becoming ruffians and bullies.

Goordan Buneary evolves to Goordan Lopunny, the rabbit Pokemon, dark type. It takes command of gangs of Goordan Buneary, leading them to find food and bully other Pokemon. While it is a bully and a ruffian, it does care for its subordinates and seeks to protect them. It is based on sukebans, female gang leaders in Japan. Its design makes it look like it's wearing a long coat and sarashi, a design often seen in fictional sukeban. It being based on a Japanese concept is a nod to the Buneary line originating in the Japan-based Sinnoh region.

Blanc is not sure how to even begin with answering this question, but he debates on it for awhile and grabs a cup of coffee in the process. He feels like he's going to need it even if it doesn't do much for him, gives him an excuse to think maybe.

"Putting a label on my bond with Svern gives me a headache," he answers plainly while stirring his drink. "Though I know labels are easier, so it's kind of hard to completely... argue I guess? Whenever someone's trying to apply some sort of label to how I talk to Svern."

"But none of it is true either." He huffs while setting down the spoon, "I can't look at him and call him a friend or a best friend, it's close to that but it's also not. But the idea of calling it anything further, yeah that just brings back the headache."

He leans against his counter, staring up at the ceiling of his house while he muses. "I've known him for a long time now though, he didn't entirely intend on it but he helped me through a situation that would've been much rougher on me without him. Then I actively left Unova with him for awhile to chase down the vague remnants of Team Plasma, and...both before that trip and during I think I saw more from him than most people do."

He stares out his window, he doesn't particularly like the way he can see a Buneary outside staring at him like it's looking through him. But he continues as he looks away from the rabbit pokemon, staring pointedly instead towards the depths of trees. "Coming back was rough, settling into what I could loosely define as a 'normal life' for me was easier with someone I knew constantly coming around. He still raids my house for food and lockpicks my door despite literally having a key."

"He's an absolute menace." Yet he still smiles anyway. "But he's my menace anyway. My personal problem Hero of Truth, who will only maybe tell the truth."

"...And despite what the timeline has me aligned with, my Svern." There's something of an unknown air to this one, like it's just as much of an act of care as it is an act of defiance. Against what or whom? Who knows.

But he backs off from the counter and the window, fully intending on leaving the unknowns to continue hanging.

"There, there's my labels for him. I don't think this really answered the question much, but I think it's probably the best you're going to get."

I was thinking of making a Silent Hill x Pokemon AU, mainly with Alessa as a teenager gaining a connection to Giratina. I was curious what sort of team you see some of them having. Mainly Alessa and Claudia (they'd both be teenagers but you can go canon ages if you want). And maybe some other SH characters for fun like Harry, Lisa, Dahlia, Maria, Heather, and/or Henry? I know you have Heather in an pkmn RP too so that's part of why I figured I'd ask. Thanks~

Hey there-- sorry it took me a bit to get to this question, but Pokemon crossovers are (unsurprisingly) My Passion (tm), so I wanted to actually devote some time to this!

The funny thing about the pkmn RP I have Heather in is that, just because of the way RP goes, many of the Pokemon Heather wound up training and becoming close to are NOT ones I ever would have originally picked out for her. So if I was picking out a Heather team completely from scratch/based on what fits, it would probably wind up different than the motley crew she assembled in Route 29/Victory Road.

(Just for kicks, this was the ride-or-die team she defeated the Elite Four with:

... and her original starter was a Growlithe! The game started back when we were on GEN 4, believe it or not!! Some notable team members she's gained since then are Claudia's starter Vulpix, Talonflame, a shiny Lucario, a shiny Infernape, and Silvally (known as 'Silphally' in-game because Silph Co. stole the Type: Null blueprints from Team Aether and started putting bootleg Nulls on the market, lmfao), and she is slowly collecting Every Horse Pokemon because she turned into a bona fide Horse Girl somehow. If you want to read about any of her technicolor animals, they all have mini bios over here.)

BUT AHEM, onto your question-- I'll put these under a cut so it doesn't murder anyone's dash.

I really love specifically building balanced teams, so I'll do that and list some extras for each character. (Yes, I have thought about this extensively).

ALESSA:

Runners-Up/Extras: Haunter, Vibrava, Shedinja, Espurr Thoughts: Heavy lean towards psychic and bug-types specifically! Unsurprisingly, also tends to favor commonly-misunderstood Pokemon.

CLAUDIA:

Runners-Up/Extras: Sawsbuck, Noctowl, Watchog, Florges, Wyrdeer Thoughts: Admittedly had adult Claudia in mind while picking these, as a young child or teen obviously she'd be more likely to have pre-evos. Ninetales I've just always associated with her, 3 out of the 4 remaining are just a play on the offering of a reed and a snake to the sun lol.

HARRY:

Runners-Up/Extras: Clodsire, Herdier, Tynamo, Bunnelby, Dedenne, Zigzagoon Thoughts: Lots of ground and normal-types with the occasional outlier. Is probably a magnet for small/childlike Pokemon.

LISA:

Runners-Up/Extras: Spritzee, Fletchling, Cinccino, Ledian, Buneary Thoughts: Tends to only want cute, non-threatening-looking Pokemon. But ones that can do same real damage if they need to.

DAHLIA:

Runners-Up/Extras: Grafaiai, Hydreigon, Arbok, Wobbuffet, Galarian Slowking, Sableye, Claydol, Toxicroak, Gliscor, Whirlipede, Mandibuzz Thoughts: Dark and Poison all the way down, unsurprisingly has a bunch of traditionally creepy and sinister species.

MARIA:

Runners-Up/Extras: Sneasler, Masquerain, Sylveon, Gorebyss, Bruxish, Vivillon Thoughts: Glamorous and beautiful Pokemon-- she and her team all seem really snobby but she actually treats her Pokemon extremely well. I MAY NEED TO DO HENRY AND HEATHER ANOTHER TIME THOUGH, I am very tired! I kept myself very restrained here lmfao if I allowed myself I could probably ramble forever about Pokemon. Hope it's fun to look at anyway!
