I don't know why more fic writers don't utilise the Wayne Gardens Halfway House for criminals and then the consequent Wayne Enterprises employment like Bruce Wayne is out here doing his darndest do give the Rogues a safer and easier transition into the real world post Arkham and yet I don't think I've ever come across a Halfway house fic once. (This is me begging for fic recs about this BTW feel free to gimme)

Like this concept is from the btas episode Double Talk where Arnold (Scarface's ventriloquist) is well enough to leave Arkham and he gets to the House, and he has a job in the Wayne Enterprises mail room. It's a very sad episode for other reasons but it's still so touching how much Bruce tried to make this difficult period of house finding and job searching all but done for them already.

So what I'm getting at here is what if more of the Rogues got to this point.

Ideas under the cut

Harley decorating her room however she wants and putting Ivy's plants in there because she doesn't have to worry about if doctors or guards will make a fuss about it. This is her space. She has a job now, too. A paper pushing job, but she's in a programme to get her licence back and everything is looking up for her! Thanks Bruce!

Edward making a dnd campaign group with his fellow Halfway House rogues because Harley commented that once curfew sets in she doesn't know what to do with herself. He shows up at work at Wayne Enterprises on the dot every morning, having set like 7 alarms so he doesn't sleep through because he isn't going to waste his one chance. He's the game developer in their suspiciously newly minted game department.

Plus, he has Temple Fugate to wake him up, who lives right next door and is up before everyone else. Man knows how to bake. He bakes and says that it's a calming activity with a set schedule that if he deviates from it will be catastrophic. Besides, it's nice to have hobbies.

At this point, Jonathan Crane, also in a programme to get his licence back, comments about how he'll probably be back in Arkham sooner than later. Harley laughs. "You can't SERIOUSLY be thinking of applying as a doctor there AGAIN?" And Jonathan, with the biggest shite-eating grin, just says: "Oh who's to say. Maybe just to see the reactions."

Gimme a fic where they break away from the cyclical status quo. Where you can feel the hope . Where they all treat this as seriously as they can because Bruce Wayne truly believes in them. And that's so rare. After everything that's happened.

Pamela who works in a botanical garden funded by Wayne Corp. Mr Fries who is allowed to research with scientists employed by Wayne Enterprises on how to cure his predicament. His wife Nora (Post movie) supporting him every step of the way (maybe she and Grace (Harvey's fiancee) are friends and helping each other as well as the men they love)

Harvey getting the operation finally and having a chance to recuperate. Though him, I think they might pull him quickly out of the Halfway House because he's a high profile man and some might think that being in a Halfway House would be beneath him. Maybe this works for him. He works as a lawyer in Wayne Enterprises and all he can say to Bruce, when he sees him is this: "Thank you for never giving up on me, old friend."

Though Harvey does get hooked on dnd and he does come by to play once a week. Edward is looking forward to a promotion to head of department.

They all know that sooner or later they'll need to leave the Halfway House and find different accommodation but they all tentatively agree that they won't push themselves before being fully, truly ready for it.

Harley points at Edward and tells him: "I'm gonna miss you guys so much! Why don't we all live together or get apartments in the same building like in a sitcom?"

And Jonathan is the only one who says he hates this idea, though it's very half-hearted and they know he isn't fighting the idea of that.

Waylon gets a job as a fisherman. Man is living out those A perfect Storm dreams of his. He gets paid the most from all of the Rogues because he's always been very materialistic and money means very little to Bruce Wayne.

Mary Dahl and Matt Hagen respectively get jobs working in a theatre group in Gotham. It isn't that visited, but they aren't ridiculed for being who they are. Romance because I ship them and I think this makes more sense than Waylon/Mary lmao. They're in counseling anyway so it's not like they can be that toxic to each other.

Speaking of romance~

The only one who's never gotten as far as the Wayne Gardens Halfway House is the Joker. But you see, that man can do whatever he puts his mind to. He's bored so he might as well speed run his way out of Arkham.

And everyone is worried about this. Because if there's one person who can undo all of their careful progress just by being his loathsome clown self, it's the Joker.

But he, just like all of them, winds up his alarm to get to his Wayne Enterprises job. He is nail bitingly saccharine to them. One time, he even washed the dishes that weren't his in the communal kitchen space. Something's off.

Once confronted, the Joker just smiles and says airily: "Oh pish-posh! I'm just in a good mood is all. I can finally see my boyfriend on a regular basis. Mon amour, Mon petit chou-fleur. Mon âme!"

Something is definitely off because Edward says that the Joker got a nicer job than all of them. He works CLOSELY to Bruce Wayne as his assistant. And that doesn't make sense. Why would Bruce Wayne let that happen? Surely he'd want to avoid someone like the Joker.

And it's Jonathan that sighs: "Do you think that his boyfriend IS Bruce Wayne?"

"No??? Why?? God??? God no???"

"Think about it. Bruce Wayne is the 1%, they're all very weird people with kinks that us in the psychology department would relish in untangling. What's some clown fuckery on the side? If anything, that's a lot tamer than what most of his contemporaries are doing behind closed doors."

Immediate horror from everyone. Harley is the first one to shout: "If that good for nothing clown fucks up this good gig we got by breaking Bruce's heart I'm going to kill him!!"

So they confront the Joker by knocking on his room in the middle of the night. And maybe they shouldn't have done that because he's supposed to be out cold, having been prescribed sleeping pills and all that. But they knock again, nonetheless.

They hear a bang. And a crash from the inside. And half of the Rogues just kind of take a step back. Harley and Pamela are the ones who stay closest to the door. Pamela shouts: "Open up, clown!"

Jonathan narrows his eyes as he cranes his way towards the door, trying to make out the sounds on the other end. He coughs to swallow down a laugh: "There's a lot of moaning in there."

"Hey, hey, you're going to get us all in trouble if you've brought folks over! It's past curfew!" Harley yells.

And it's at this moment that the moaning kind of stops. There aren't any crashes. Someone grips the door handle from the inside and turns it open.

The Rogues all take yet another step back, this time all of them.

It's Batman. The portion of his face visible from the cowl is covered in red lipstick. He sighs, and his voice doesn't quite manage to lose that post make out tinge: "Nobody's going to get in trouble. I'll talk to Bruce Wayne and clear anything up. Go ahead and play your dnd. Thank you, goodbye." And just as he closes the door, the Joker erupts in a fit of laughter on the other end.

"I'LL TALK TO BRUCE WAYNE, HE SAYS! HA! OH!! OH, THAT'S SO FUNNY!!"

I don’t PLAY DND that much, because anxiety, but the whole world of it fascinates me

So far I’ve come up with backstories for Jaune, Weiss, Nora, and a little bit for Ren, Oscar, and Emerald, and Penny. Still gotta work on those ones, and really think about Yang, Ruby, and Pyrrha

Also gotta work on designs for most of the cast, so far I’ve only got Jaune, Yang, and Ren nailed down

I know this is a big party, but it’s pretty freaking huge in canon so what can you do

There’s gonna be some out of the ordinary ships, and some races/classes that seem like they don’t fit with the characters. But believe me I’ve put a lot of thought into all of this, it’s all gonna make sense

Another thing I forgot to upload: this is Noraya, my current DnD character and the first drawing I made with my new tablet!

She is a satyr and a bardadin (5 levels oath of the crown paladin, 3 levels college of swords bard) and she is the last true believer of Xexilia, goddess of vanity, beauty, and self-confidence. Xexilia was actually struck from the heavens due to the plots of her twin and has since been traveling with Nora to prevent the apocalypse (they failed). She's also the daughter of jewellers which might explain her appearance (coupled with the goddess of vanity thing). She's the sweetest and totally not a little bit in love with her goddess.

So far we've only played 3 sessions and I am itching for more!

@haaawaiianshirt plays Delilah, an aasimar path of the beast barbarian. She was born and raised in a religious commune type situation before running away after being responsible for the death of a friend, and then being adopted by a sheriff in a small town. She later became his deputy, but they can’t outrun their past. The god this commune worshipped, Omen, is reaching out, and it seems he has some sort of plan for her that she does NOT want to be a part of. They’re also reflavored so that their path of the beast forms aren’t tail, claws, whatever, it’s cherub, seraphim, and throne form!! Which we got to work on together and I think it’s really cool. Emmie jokes I have shared custody of Delilah hehe, and I’ve probably done the most writing for her thus far

@suwunnysideup is playing Belladonna, a reborn tiefling grave cleric (with a bonus level in fighter!)!! They were raised from death by an evil cult called the Order of the Rotting Eye, which serves a rival god to Omen called Char’gothikon. Their past is intrinsically linked to Delilah’s, but both characters are still figuring out how. She’s recent been revealed to have more than one soul piloting their body, and are under the influence of something dark. They are currently trying to rescue their wife, Aasharni, from the clutches of the Order, who are demanding powerful Relics in return. She is also a werewolf, as of session two! They are the sweetest ever. They’re also 7 feet tall and we’re all really normal about it

@daughterofdrearburh is Nora Elliot, a rough around the edges “human” (werecoyote) ranger!! Her specific subclass has yet to be revealed in game, but she has abilities somehow related to other dimensions. A group called the Horizon Walkers, also servants of Omen, have made their connection to her known, and are seemingly trying to recruit her. She’s a terrible little beast and we all love her so dearly. She’s best friends with Morgan, and grew up in the same town as Delilah, but she can be a little aloof. She doesn’t like to trust people, and recently got shot by Morgan (under a vampiric charm) and lost the one bit of trust she had placed in anyone. Also she died and came back with black eyes but that went away so I’m sure it’s fine

@ninthhousesteel is playing Ruewen Simber, another normal human!! She’s a fighter, champion archetype, only she somehow has access to spare the dying and was able to use a scroll, despite “not being a spellcaster.” She was a socially awkward farm girl who didn’t even believe in monsters before joining the group and quickly having to confront that fact. She discovered a not at all cursed sword that was later revealed to in some way be connected to Char’gothikon. Also, she died in one session, but returned without the help of revivify—but with dark veiny scarring across her shoulder that appears to be spreading…

@candle-lion plays everyone’s favorite unethical evil lesbian, Doctor Morgan Lancaster. She’s a doctor who Jekyll and Hyde’d herself. She’s a “shifter” circle of the moon druid with a few levels in artificer. She was a doctor in a town called Dusty Springs, which was terrorized by vampires from a coven called the Onyx Eye Coven for many years. She has a HUGE vendetta against vampires, and is damn determined to exterminate every single one she sees. In an effort to become stronger and protect people, she made an experimental serum, which turned her into a monster. During times of stress, at will, or occasionally at random, she transforms into a “bad taxidermy wolf monster” but apparently mostly maintains control. She’s looking for a cure for herself, and recently discovered she too is somehow connected to Char’gothikon.

@lavenderlevetan is a petty vampire and we fucking love her. Seraphina is a half elf now vampire and she’s a fighter as well!! She has canonically killed 1000+ people over 20 years of being a vampire!! But she specifically chooses to go after bounties, and specifically those that list “wanted dead or alive.” She’s actually the nicest person ever until you (Morgan) give her a reason to be petty. She’s also the most charming of the group and her expertise in persuasion has made her mvp of multiple sessions. She was dragged into this mess while trying to find a missing person for a bounty, and thus far has yet to discover why her specifically, when it seems every other character is here for a Reason

Morgan and Seraphina hate each other and they want to kiss about it so bad. When any of us post about morphine, that’s them LMAO. Deliladonna is obviously Delilah and Belladonna. Norue are the slowest slow burn ever

And while I’m the DM and don’t have a PC, I do have a special little guy NPC that I’m a little obsessed with. Her name is Brozi and she’s a half orc way of mercy monk. She was Delilah’s best friend (and for some time, girlfriend) after the aasimar arrived in Sawtooth City and together they were the worst teenagers ever. Brozi isn’t going with the party, but she and Delilah are still very close, and their goodbye will be hard. While Delilah is gone, they get to achieve their lifelong dream of opening a bakery 🫶

In any case. Cowboy dykes. With horror. Themes of free will, losing control, found family, and learning to trust and overcome prejudice. The friendship dynamics took everyone by surprise. Belladonna and Seraphina are undead besties. Ruewen and Seraphina play go fish. Delilah and Morgan are slowly fixing each other. Nora and Morgan are also fixing each other. Morgan is super protective of Ruewen and it’s very sweet. I would die for any one of them. I’m obsessed with them a healthy amount.

I heard that yang is going to be joining Ruby soon as a VTuber!!!! And suddenly, the world feels a bit brighter! But, I would like to imagine how other RWBY characters would be like if they began Vtubing.

Weiss: Complains about how childish video games are. Gets obsessively over-invested and restarts after every mistake.

Blake: Also complains about how they are a waste of time. Leaves after 10 minutes but just leaves the stream going (after depositing a shadowclone stand-in).

Yang: BONZAI!!!

Pyrhha: Has never played a video game before in her life. Smashes the Dark Souls II speedrun world record on her first try while apologizing to every monster.

Juane: Nervously tries to act cool, begins to freak out, and just starts talking in his ASMR voice because he has no idea what else to do.

Nora: BRING! IT! ONNNNNNNN! HIYYAAAAAAAA!!!

Ren: Politely says hello. Finishes the Stardew Valley stream without saying anything else. Politely says goodbye.

Cinder: Leads other players to their deaths to loot their bodies, abusively manipulates other players to turn on each other, somehow manages to burn down the villagers in Animal Crossing, and tricks Finland into delcaring war on the Island of Mauritius on livestream.

Neo: Ren + Cinder.

Neon Cat: Most annoying anime reviewer ever. And yet I would be surprisingly open to it.

Watts: Pretends to play a video game while actually hacking the computers of all his viewers (all three of them) and stealing their credit card numbers. Hacks the game to make his skills appear amazing and talks about his own achievements. Because, you know, his ego.

Fox: Literally fighting blind in Smash Bros yet manages to win every match while cracking jokes.

Coco: Queen of Sims. Supersonic princess of Mario Karts. Influencer paragon of VTubers. Scarlet's rival.

Scarlet: King of Sims. Supersonic prince of Sonic Racing. Influencer paragon of VTubers. Coco's rival.

Velvet: Best teammate ever.

Qrow: Worst teammate ever. Livestreams a DnD game. His companions only roll nat 1s. Qrow is abandoned and is yet somehow able to beat the campaign by himself while drunk.

Yatsu: Ren + Juane.

Sun: Abandons all of his teammates in the middle of a quest to go chase after something shiny. All of his teammates die.

Neptune: Acts cool except on water levels.

Ooblek: Speedruns games based on historical events while spouting off how they are all inaccurate.

Port: Somehow manages to make Monster Hunter boring (although truthfully, I don't like violent games like Monster Hunter).

Oscar: Awkward, yet deeply profound, commentaries on anime. Surprisingly knowledable about farming games.

Penny: Lovable goofball capable of breaking speed run records and everyone's hearts.

I realized while writing this that I based most of these on their earlier character traits. Probably because RWBY characters are easier to stereotype earlier in their stories before they gain complexity and development (an intentional decision by CRWBY and a reason why RWBY has such phenomenal character arcs). Idk, what do you all think?

I simply will not accept Nora hate. There is actually nothing to not love about Nora. She is a complex character who is more than just comic relief.

I’ve been playing her character in a DnD campaign. I’m the only RWBY fan in the party, but I really have done a lot of digging into her character and her personality because of this.

In the campaign she is in a post-Salem world. RWBY and JNPR have gone about their ways. They are adults now and it’s been years since they defeated Salem. They are working professionals. But Ren and Nora have broken up — a nasty break up I might add. And Nora is wandering around the world doing what she does best, fighting monsters. Searching for a purpose, a cause, something she can rally her strength behind.

There’s a folk hero in our party who saved Nora’s ass multiple times in our first combat, so now Nora has subconsciously formed an emotional bond to him. Not romantic per-say, but just as Ren saved her and they fought together for years, she has found someone who saved her. Who would save her. But she, of course, isn’t aware of this. And neither is the rest of the party. Because they don’t know what Nora is doing. They all have goals. Things they want. As you do when you’re playing DnD. But Nora isn’t really looking for anything. She doesn’t know who she is other than a huntress. She saves people, but she doesn’t know what for.

But she’ll know it when she sees it, and having the opportunity to join this gang of adventurers is not something she is able to pass up.

I’m looking forward to getting to know her better as the complexities between these relationships grow. I am realizing more and more how relatable of a character Nora is and I wish people would take her seriously. She deserves that.

aaahhh thank you, sweet pea! do you mean in terms of canon characters? because i do! to an extent anyways. i'm happy to indulge most ships that involve homelander, honestly. madelyn, starlight, maeve, becca, victoria, etc etc.

that said i definitely have a preference for homelander x oc, both mine and my friend's (nora!!! dahlia!! alex!! so many!!!!!). my fic Eat Your Ego, Honey features my oc Layla. i just really like the creativity people bring to the table with their oc's. plus, i feel like oc's don't get nearly the attention they deserve in fandom. especially the ladies! when i first started roleplaying, i was always the one playing canon's for oc's, and to this day i really enjoy it. also, my very first fanfiction was absolutely a self-inserty yu yu hakusho canon x oc fic lmao though homelander fandom is my first foray into canon x reader. that has been fun, too! i think playing dnd has largely influenced my perspective on reader fic. i honestly still feel like i'm reading through the eyes of an oc, just with the narrative in second person, kind of like the way you would play a ttrpg.

anyways, that turned into a ramble. long story short, yes. i'm absolutely a multishipper and i'm open to talking about all kinds of ships. c:

If Yang isn’t Barbarian or Monk then we riot. Ruby is easy Ranger with preferred enemy animals. Rouge Blake is too expected, maybe bard? That’d be hilarious. Weiss is sorcerer, that one is really easy. NORA STORM BARBARIAN LETS GOOOOOOO! Pyrrha I can see just going as a rouge/fighter multi class. Ren is monk because Nora made his character for him because she knew he was gonna go monk. Jaune is paladin because the boy. The boy is redemption paladin. Are any of these guesses correct or am I screaming at a wall?

These ARENT the characters translated one-to-one. They’re the same people, same personalities, but when put into this new situation, their lives went very differently

I made a list of what they’d be if they were just put as they are into the DND world, and that list is VERY close to the one you just had. But I don’t want to just tell the same story all over again, that’s boring. And to do that, I put a new spin on their stories

AKA, I tried to think of what classes/races they’d pick if THEY were playing the game. And I tend to find that most people have the most fun with the game when they DONT play characters that are like them IRL
