Not too long ago I was asked to write a letter to Christians in Palestine. At the heart of my letter was a wish that they would be able to see hope even if everything around them was telling them hope didn't exist anymore. Fast forward to today, I find myself taking my own advice. Self doubt is the lies you tell yourself that you mistake for your truth Anxiety is the fear that believing those causes Ruminantion; when you refuse to let those lies go One of my favourite self care tools is unpacking my mini meltdowns. I'm still Hella stressed about this exam but not because of the exam itself. I've set my self a target that is unnecessary and it's driving me nuts. Why freak out about an exam when I know the truth is I'm a boss at interviews? Why worry about money when I have a job that pays well and there are lots ( and lots and lots) of vacant shifts that I can earn extra money from? My #1 remedy for bad times is laughter because; 1. If you can laugh through the bad days you can do anything 2. Life is too big a deal to take seriously In the middle of my panic induced cleaning, I was about to pack away this costume. I bought it for a Christmas themed class that ended up being cancelled. In the midst of a messy room (read messy life) why not don my gay apparel for a little stress busting yoga? So whenever my anxiety kicks in *cough*everyday*cough* I always "forget who I am", I lose sight of my truth and lose my sense of intuition. Basically I don't trust myself and the negative thought Olympics begins. In those moments I go back to what I know and the grounds me in my truth and sets my mind straight. My go-to's are; yoga, music, essential oils and the 'my daily ground' exercise for the True You Project. #30dayyogajourney day 29 - #padmasana or lotus pose Today was another day of reluctant practice but I got there eventually. I haven't tried half lotus in a while because it's just so bloody uncomfortable but I gave it a second chance. Still uncomfortable 🤷🏽‍♀️ Side note: in the past I've had some well meaning people suggesting that I warm up before trying lotus to make it more comfortable. Honey I done tried that and it's still uncomfortable. To the angry daughter who made my nurse cry, I feel grief for each of my patients who do not respond to treatment. I remember their names, they are not just bed numbers shoved in corners. My job is to care and that is what I do even on my most stressful days. To the angry daughter who asked me if I could sleep at night, I often struggle to sleep because the medical needs of 16 patients, the demands of each of their families, the work to keep the medical team afloat all while still meeting my training needs is a lot to cram into a day. To the patient who thanked me for explaining what was going on, to the daughter who was grateful for the care I helped provide, to the wife who was happy that I came over to chat to her, to the countless patients who are happy to go home, I'm glad that my best was good enough. Today I am thankful for all the emotions this career brings. We do not get used to it, we still cry, we still feel heart broken, we still feel joy when people get well. #GetThatPoseYogi day 1 #dhanurasana Kicking off this yoga challenges with a revelation. The phrase that got me in to the challenge was "bring your props". Now I have props, I love a good yin practice with all the yoga furniture but I rarely use it in my home practice. Today I realised why. One of my prized traits is my strength both physical and mental. I'm so used to muscling why way through things, ensuring things, literally toughing it out that the idea of using support? Ha! That's for the weak. BUT that's not true. Support , like props, are there to help you reach your potential. I realised this while having a play with funky #pinchamayurasana Now, I can't do actual pincha so I don't know what possessed me but here we are. After fumbling a few dozen times and getting frustrated, I thought why not use your blocks and as if by magic I go into the pose. #SistersOfYoga inversion challenge day 5. 1) peep the struggle 2) peep the epic hair flip 😎 I definitely put the fallen in fallen angel. This clip is literally a snippet of a 20 minute experiment. I tried this pose last year, couldn't get my caboose up and decided it wasn't for me. Buuuuut Scrolling through the #SistersOfYoga hashtag got my Friday night idleness going 😅 And I did it! I am beautifully broken Open (And this is how the sky must feel after a storm) @loveaprilgreen 'Bloom for Yourself' Day 28 - Goddess pose As we near the end of this challenege, let's think about what it means to RELEASE It may mean letting go Or being open to new narratives for your life To get into this pose stand with feet wider than hip width apart, hands in prayer position at the heart. Turn the toes outward but keep them in line with your knee cap. Suck your belly in and be mindful not to stick your bum out. Keep your chest up and bend your knees. Imagine you're sliding down a wall and keep the upper back straight. Stop at your comfortable edge. Spread your hands out and breath deep in to your chest. Be sure to press your knees outwards. Feel the shake of your legs but also their strength. To be honest I hate this pose. I want my goddess pose to be perfect, to fit my idea of what a goddess looks like. Day 26 seated forward fold or #paschimottanasana Needing - whenever you feel lost, run to yourself - go home, because you need yourself more than you need anyone or anything outside of yourself. ( and it may take losing yourself many times before this lesson embeds itself onto your heart). @loveaprilgreen This pose will look different for each of us. Start sitting with legs out in front, if you have tight hamstrings put a generous bend in your knees. You could even tuck a pillow underneath your knees if you need a bit more TLC. Sit up tall and take the biggest breath you've taken all day with the arms stretched up above your head. On your exhale, pull your belly button in tight and fold as far as your body allows. Try not to curve your spine by keeping your heart shining forward. Allow your hands to rest wherever they reach. Breathe Seated forward fold provides a nice stretch for your back and backs of the legs. It also calms our emotions. When in this pose, instead of focusing on trying to get the head to the toes, think about the space between your chest and your thighs. Breathe into this space and know that you're all you got. And all you need. And don't forget to smile 🙂 #blackgirlyoga #noperfectyogi

Day 1 of #IfSheCanICan yoga challenege - savasana Lay flat on a mat our towel, snuggle your shoulder blades a little closer together and tuck your chin in just a hair. Let your arms and legs go floppy like a relaxing starfish ^.^ now breathe. Take the deepest breath you've taken all day. Feel your cheat and stomach rise with every inhale and drop with each exhale. Listen I am so proud of my little tree! This went from shaking like a leaf to I can do bad all by myself for a few seconds. What I love about this pose is that my body will not allow me to stand up straight and tall if I am not pushing into the ground with my standing leg. The phrase "root to rise" made so much sense I could preach a sermon on it. Bottom line: if your foundation isn't secure *you will not let yourself be great*. If you aren't secure in who you are/what you're about/ your goals/your vision for your life /your greatness - when the opportunities you've been praying for come you won't let yourself use them to the full potential.
