Repugnant Fic: Supervision (vol. 1)

Summary: Tom Bones applies for a job at a daycare centre. What could possibly go wrong?

Characters: Tom Bones, OC: Barbara, Sid E. Burns, and Mary Goore.

Rating: Teen and up audience.

Word Count: 2,124

Warnings: Strong language, children indulging in shenanigans, and mild cult indoctrination.

Tom Bones could never keep a job. Ever. It didn't matter what kind of job he had, whether it be part of the movie theatre crew, a car dealership seller, clerk, janitor, etc., customer service wasn't his forte. He was reckless when performing his duties and he was careless with the customers. If an angry customer snapped at him, he would snap back, and get into a fistfight. Sometimes his ass would land in jail, causing Mary or Sid to bail him out the next day.

Since Tom applied to one or two jobs per year he wasn't draining the band's money by getting into trouble. Repugnant was already gaining more recognition by the masses. Tom didn't need the extra cash. Whenever the band wasn't touring or recording albums Tom would take a side job out of pure boredom.

After Repugnant's last concert ended, it was the same old situation for Tom and his big break, yet, this time, he believed he found the perfect job, not only to avoid trouble, but to cure his apathy: a daycare centre.

Tom's job interviews were usually mediocre. It was no different when he was being interviewed by one of the supervisors at the daycare centre, Barbara. He tried to put on his best impression, saying, 'yes, ma'am,' "no, ma'am,' lying about his past and boasting about what a great influence he'd be for the kids.

Barbara observed his appearance and detected how grungy he looked as if he were in some kind of grunge band similar to Pearl Jam. He did good answering each question, she noted. How bad could he be?

While examining his résumé, she also noticed he listed no prior job experience. She wasn't necessarily looking for someone with experience. Anybody could handle a kid. She just hoped he wouldn't allow them to misbehave. She brushed the thought aside and decided to give him a chance. After all, the people who haven't had a job yet needed one more than those who did. Little did she know... Tom had plenty.

"You're hired." She gave him a yellow slip which had both her number, her email, the address the daycare was located (in case he forgot), and what time he needed to arrive. “See you at noon tomorrow."

Back at the Repugnant hideout, Tom bragged to Sid and Mary about his new job, deeming himself less lazy than them.

"You won't last a fuckin' day, man," Sid retorted.

“Oh yeah? Wanna bet?”

Sid scoffed. "Dude. I've won all your bets." He has, in fact, won 20 of Tom's bets. What started out as a $5 bet steadily grew to $10, $15, $20, and now $50. Tom often wondered where his money went until being reminded about it when Sid flaunted the cash in his face.

"I'm telling you, this job is a keeper."

Sid rolled his eyes. He heard that phrase many times before. "Whatever."

Mary listened to their conversation and drank his beer. He couldn't care less.

The next day Tom arrived on time but wasn't dressed to impress. He walked over and greeted Barbara by the entrance.

"Welcome, Tom. So glad you're here." She would later regret saying that. "The little ones are waiting for you. I'll be back soon with their parents ready to pick them up."

“Yeah. No problem.”

She led him inside into the classroom. All the children were sitting criss cross, staring blankly at nothing. Barbara had taught them well. "Kids, this is your new sitter, Tom. Be nice to him and don't make a mess," she scolded playfully, wagging her finger.

“Yes, ma’am,” they all said in unison.

She turned to Tom and smiled. "They're all yours. Good luck." She patted his shoulder. “See you in a few hours." With that she left Tom to his duties.

He grabbed a chair, plopping himself down in front. "Hey, guys and gals. I'm in charge here. So I say, do whatever the fuck you want."

Shit. He said a bad word. A forbidden word! The girls plugged their ears, and the boys gasped while some giggled in the back, finding the word amusing.

After a moment of silence, one boy, who mustered up all his courage, raised his hand. “Where did you get your nose ring...?"

"This?" Tom pointed to his piercing. "At a shop." He was casual about it. Kids shouldn't have nose piercings. Maybe when they were older, but definitely not now.

“Can I touch it?” The same boy asked.

Tom chuckled. “Go right ahead.”

The kid walked forward and touched the piece of silver. Other kids followed suit and soon enough everybody was touching his piercing. Tom didn't mind being the main attraction. He enjoyed it.

"Did it hurt?" A girl queried.

He gave her a wink. “Only a little.”

"Hey, Tom!" A boy cut in. "Can me and Ethan play ball?"

“Do whatever you want. I’m easy.”

The kids got into groups and did their own thing. Tom watched, occasionally dodging a ball or catching it, before throwing it back.

A girl came up and started running her fingers through his blonde strands. "Your hair is so long." She muttered, almost in awe. In her early comprehension years, guys are supposed to have short hair, not long hair. "Can I braid it?"

Tom didn't hesitate. He allowed her and a few other friends to take each strand of hair and braid it. They chatted amongst themselves until they were finished. Tom thought the hairstyle looked cool and wanted to don it at a future Repugnant concert. Mary, of course, denied his wishes.

“Hair done! Next is makeup." The girls sifted through loads of paperwork on Barbara's desk, hoping to find a makeup kit. They looked inside the drawers and attempted to pull on the locked drawer with no luck.

“Tom, we can't find any." A little girl protested.

“Wait, I have an idea!" Another girl chimed in, holding up a box of markers.

The girls agreed and each grabbed a different color. Bethany used the red marker for lipstick; Charmaynae used the blue marker for eyeshadow; Hailey used an orange marker for blush, Dakota used the green marker for defining Tom's jawline and cheekbones; and the rest had yellow to press tiny dots all over his face. By the end of his makeup session Tom looked like a disaster and a scary clown.

The girls handed him a mirror. He inspected himself, praising the girls for all their hard work while impersonating Barbara, making the girls squeal with laughter.

Although his “makeup" was childish, Tom would later see this as inspiration to use makeup for his Kiki Bones appearance in Subvision.

Meanwhile, the boys were separated into three groups: one group situated themselves at the desks, making paper airplanes and flying them across the room. The second group continued to play ball and the third group wrestled, knocking down a few chairs in the process. Tom didn't care about the mess. He wasn't gonna take charge and clean up or force the kids to do it.

In the midst of all the chaos, one boy walked over to Tom, analyzing his black metal band t-shirt. "Um...excuse me? You like Mayhem?"

“I do,” confirmed Tom.

"My dad does too."

"Really? What's his favorite song?"

The kid shrugged. "I don't remember the exact name, but there's this one particular song he plays everyday." The boy paused and raked his eyes over Tom's tattoos, looking flabbergasted. “Whoa! That's a lot."

Tom chuckled. "Thanks." Suddenly, an idea struck. "Why don't you gather everyone around and I'll tell you guys about each tattoo?" The boy nodded and started herding the rest of his classmates like cattle onto the floor where they all sat, cross cross, staring at Tom...or a second cousin of Pennywise?

"Who wants story time?"

Everybody raised their hand.

"Excellent." Tom rolled up his shirt cuff, further exposing his tattoos. A few tiny mouths went agape at the sight. Tom’s right arm was a full tattoo sleeve while his left arm was half a sleeve. He pointed to the first tattoo he ever received at the ripe age of 17 then started sharing stories for the rest of his tattoos. It took an hour and a half to talk about all the ink but he eventually finished, concluding, "That is how I got my tattoos."

The kids cheered and clapped.

"Are you in a band?" Marcus asked.

"Yeah. I play drums."

"Can you spin your sticks like Nikki Sixx?" Ethan demanded.

"That's Tommy Lee!" Corrected Dylan.

"Guys." Tom caught their attention again. He looked at both boys, smirking. "Yes and yes."

"Well, what band are you in?" Questioned Sophia.

Poor, sweet child, thought Tom. He didn't want to corrupt her innocent facade by revealing he was in a death metal band. However, if she was curious....he didn't want to deny her an answer.

"Anyone heard of Repugnant?"

The kids fell silent. Tom could've swore he heard crickets in the background until a random girl, Jocelyn, spoke, "What does that mean?"

Ah, children and their vocabulary. "It means..." Tom tried to figure out a way to word the definition without scarring the kids too much. "All the bad stuff in the world, things that are inhumane, disgusting, revolting - that's Repugnant."

"So... the worst of the worst?"

"Correct. The worst of the worst."

"I wanna hear what your band sounds like. You think we can attend a concert?" Ethan asked, his eyes widening like saucers. He was getting excited.

Tom didn't want to deject Ethan's dreams by saying he was too young to watch them play live. So, instead, he offered: "Would you like to have a concert here, in this very room?"

All the boys looked at each other, nodding eagerly. Tom dimmed the lights and went over to Barbara's computer, finding a few Repugnant concert videos on YouTube. “Prepare to rock out," Tom warned. "This song is called Premature Burial." He clicked play and the thrashing music echoed off the speakers. "There's me." Tom pointed himself out, smashing the drums. The kids watched. The girls didn't find this type of music enjoyable or catchy. It was unlike Taylor Swift.

Through the grainy film of the video, Mary Goore appeared on stage, banging his head forth and back, while fingering the strings on his guitar. He flipped his head up as his long brown hair fell down near the length of his shoulders, revealing his face and darkened eye paint, as he sang in a deep, growly voice, “Decrepit as you've fallen in disease. Joints are withering as they slowly freeze. Decomposition eating through your head. Mistakenly you're confirmed as dead." The words were incoherent but the boys didn't seem to mind it. Some started to bang their heads and mimic Mary's guitar playing. The girls locked eyes at the screen in horror before scampering out of the room in fright.

Tom didn't pay attention, he was busy using his index fingers to hit the desk, pretending he was back on tour.

The boys started to feel the groove of the music take control of their bodies as the song continued. The indoctrination process was beginning to happen. The boys would become future death metal heads and society had no source of stopping it. These young rebels would continue the legacy of wrecking havoc on ordinary life. Tom couldn't have been more proud.

Next the boys stood up on desks, chanting, “Repugnant! Repugnant! Repugnant!"

Not long after, Barbara barged in, shocked at what was unfolding in front of her own eyes.

Tom quickly paused the video while the boys scrambled off the desk.

"What is going on?!" Barbara shrieked.

Tom stood up, confronting her. "I can explain-"

Barbara gasped at Tom's new makeover. What the fuck happened to him?? His hair was braided and his face was covered in different colors. How did this happen? Why did any of this happen? "The k-kids d-did that to y-you?" She looked around the room, inspecting the strewn items that scattered the floor. "And y-you allowed them to d-do this?" Barbara was in a pure state of shock, she could hardly speak without trampling over her own words.

Tom cleared his throat. It was the only moment in which he was honest with her. He nodded his head, not looking a bit shameful, but rather smug, amused.

"Get out! You're fired." No explanation could ever change her mind about Tom. She pointed to the exit where he left, not saying goodbye to his miniature comrades. "Did he hurt you?" Barbara interrogated, worried about the children’s well-being. The boys shook their heads, however, the girls provided a different response, concerning their mental state after witnessing the shock value that was contained in the concert video.

The daycare centre was the first and only job in which Tom Bones was fired from after a day.

Rate the Ship -

How long will they last? - lifetimes if they get their shit together

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - very slowly. It took them a super long time to kind of fall into place.

How was their first kiss? - Short and spontaneous. And very awkward right after.

WEDDING

Who proposed? - I’m not one to think that Taang would really get married but if they were it probably be Aang who proposed hes a sap like that.

Who is the best man/men? - if they got married it wouldn’t be western at all so these questions aren’t really fitting to it but if it were westernized Aang would ask Zuko to be the best man and Sokka as a groomsman.

Who is the braid’s maid(s)? - Again with the point above but obviously if i had to choose it’d be Katara as maid of honor and Suki as a bridesmaid

Who did the most planning? - Sokka is in charge of most of the planning honestly

Who stressed the most? - Aang would be, while Toph is just wanting to get it done

How fancy was the ceremony? -

The actual ceremony would be very private and hidden in the air temples. But also this would be a union between the Avatar and a Beifong there would be huge celebrations for weeks.

CHILDREN

How many children will they have naturally? - 3

How many children will they adopt? - They help out a lot of orphaned kids all the time. And they practically adopt every animal they encounter

Who gets stuck with the most diapers? - Aang

Who is the stricter parent? - Aang is but barely. But Toph is more of the tough love parent.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Neither they like to live on the edge

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - Aang loves prepping food

How often do they bake desserts? - Aang bakes desserts all the time and talks about Gyatso as he does.

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - Toph is a meat lover while Aang is obviously a vegetarian. Toph eats a lot of non meats for Aang but she does have the craving for it every now and again.

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - Aang does because he’s a big hopeless romantic.

Who is more likely to suggest going out? - Toph so she can get some meat every now and again.

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? - Toph because her and Zuko don’t know how to cook but boy did they try one time.

Who cleans the room? - They both do their share of cleaning.

Who is really against chores? - Neither really, after spending years together and traveling the world they know they just gotta do their share and it can be fun with the right people.

Who cleans up after the pets? - Aang cleans up after Appa and Momo but Toph helps.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? - Aang is when they are fancy diplomats and Toph has to try to teach him the art of fine dining (and breathing)

How long will they last?: Depends on the universe, but it's safe to say that an eternity wouldn't be enough for one as greedy as Shang Tsung.

How quickly did/will they fall in love?: It was the slowest of slow burns I tell you. All is fair in love and kombat, but it’s never quite that simple is it? They didn’t kindle things until a universal reset and a generation of training together.

How was their first kiss?: Electric.

Wedding:

Who proposed?: Shang Tsung. Something along the lines of “Be mine, Raiden.”

Who is the best man/men?: I WANT to say that Fire Lord Liu Kang is the best man for Raiden.

Who is the braid’s maid(s)?: BRAIDS MAIDS- I know what this is a spelling error but see. I can’t let it go.

Who did the most planning?: Shang Tsung.

Who stressed the most?: Shang Tsung, he’s a staunch perfectionist. Everything had to be just right, more than that. It had to be a ceremony befitting of a god’s status, but accustomed to the sensibilities of one who lives for the simplicity of life as Raiden does. Getting all their guests to the island was the tricky part.

How fancy was the ceremony? - Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big.

Who was specifically not invited to the wedding?: The Kytinn. Shao Kahn, etc etc

Who is on top?: Shang Tsung, sometimes Raiden when he’s comfortable with taking a ride.

Who is the one to instigate things?: Typically Shang Tsung. Raiden’s a rather chaste fellow.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law?: If you don't think that Shang Tsung is going to roll up to the jailhouse in armani with a team of the best lawyers money can buy then you are simply WRONG

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking?: The servants

Who is the most picky in their food choice?: Shang Tsung

Who does the grocery shopping?: The food on the island is locally sourced

How often do they bake desserts?: Not too often. A little bit more when Shang Liu Kang enters their lives.

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater?: I’m actually not sure of Raiden’s eating prefrences (humbly asking @bastardsunlight for an assist on this), but Shang Tsung’s policy is ‘why not both?’

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner?: Shang Tsung

Who is more likely to suggest going out?: Shang Tsung, again.

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking?: Raiden, I’d think. The man’s never had to cook to sustain himself before.

Chores:

Who cleans the room?: The servants

Who is really against chores?: No one, they're well paid.

Who cleans up after the pets?: The servants

Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug?: Not anyone who wants to live.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over?: Shang "We can't let anyone know that we SIT" Tsung

Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning?: Couches? In THAT palace? It's less likely than you think.

Who takes the longer showers/baths?: Shang Tsung

Who takes the dog out for a walk?: The servants

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays?: Not often, I'd think

What are their goals for the relationship?: To live a life of lavished love and drink in its wealth together.

Who is most likely to sleep till noon?: The only way they're sleeping until noon is if it's the both of them. Tsung's an early riser.

Who plays the most pranks?: Shang Liu Kang, look at the girl. She's a menace!

This is a bullshit job.

Okay, it’s not, and Emma knows it. It’s a job that’s getting her insurance and enabling her to pay her bills after she lost her last job due to her asshole boss’s gambling problems that burned Queen’s Bail Bonds to the ground. Figuratively, not literally, but Emma really wanted to literally burn it down when it meant she was out of a job. And none of the other bail bonds places in town would hire her because Regina burned a bridge with anyone and everyone she could since she is the actual worst and made enemies with anyone who challenged her. Emma doesn’t exactly have much of an education and has a history that’s a little less than pretty, so after eating three saltine crackers for dinner and considering selling her car for grocery money, she bit the bullet and started applying for office jobs that have always seemed like her worst nightmare.

So, that’s how she got here, sitting in a closed off part of Mass General with no windows and possible mold with a stack of files bigger than her that she’s having to put in the computer because they’re going digital. She’s never thought about medical files before and has assumed they’ve always been digital, but the entire department full of filing cabinets says otherwise.

She’s probably going to be vitamin D deficient by the time she finds another job.

Really, it’s fine. It’s not all that bad. She likes her coworkers, and most days she can listen to music all day and get lost in the repetitiveness of her job. Today Emma’s a little cranky because her car wouldn’t crank this morning, and she should have sold that piece of junk when she had the chance last month.

Spinning in her chair, Emma pops an earphone out and looks across her desk where Mary Margaret and Ruby are talking. They both work in Community Outreach, which is an entirely different department up in the land of people and windows, but their boss sent them to help with the digitization because the hospital realized the temps they hired would take at least six months to do all the work if left to their own devices. Emma wouldn’t mind that, no matter how much she sometimes hates it, because it would mean she has a few more months to figure her shit out.

“Morning, Swan.” Emma groans and leans back in her chair, the wheels squeaking underneath her. Killian stops by her desk, taking a peppermint out of the bowl in the corner, and pops it in his mouth. He’s far too peppy this morning, and she just knows he went for a run this morning and then spent an unnecessary amount of time fixing his hair to give it that disheveled look. She doesn’t understand morning exercise people. They may not be people at all. “How are you today?”

“Exhausted.”

“What? No sleep last night?”

“Only a little.” She shrugs and holds her hand out. He tosses her a new peppermint, and she quickly unwraps it, the mint soothing her throat. The cold weather outside always dries out her throat, and having to walk to work this morning did not help. “My car wouldn’t start this morning, so I think I’m exhausted from walking here and knowing I’m probably going to be out of a car.”

His eyes glance up and down her, lips pressed into a firm line, and she expects him to make a joke that will have her rolling her eyes. Instead, he leans over her desk and presses his cheek to his palm, blinking slowly. “Do you need a ride home? I can give you one after work.”

“I can walk.”

“Swan. It’s no problem.”

Emma sighs and leans back, running her tongue against the peppermint. “You sure?”

“I wouldn’t offer if I wasn’t. Pick you up at five thirty?”

“See you then.”

Killian knocks his knuckles against the wood and flashes her a smile, walking away from her desk and down the hallway to the IT department, where he’ll spend the rest of the day answering calls from elderly doctors who don’t know how to log into their patient portal. Emma watches him walk away, knowing he won’t notice. Winter in Boston may be hell, but it does have benefits, such as the way Killian owns several fitted sweaters that hug his biceps. There are few perks to this job, and even though there are no windows, there are sometimes views.

When he disappears around the corner, Emma goes back to her files, typing in more patient information, when she hears Mary Margaret and Ruby rise from their chairs, heels clicking against the tile. They’ve got Cheshire Cat grins on their faces, every tooth showing, and if Emma ignores them, maybe they’ll go away.

She knows better than to hope for impossible things.

“So,” Ruby starts, incessantly tapping a pen against the desk to make Emma look up. Her desk has one of those tall, barrier-type things around the top because it’s an old secretary’s desk, which is great for hiding out. The problem is that people know to look for her now, and when they do, there’s no way for her to escape unless she wants to roll right out of the room. “He’s taking you home, offering you a ride.”

“Ruby,” Mary Margaret hisses, “don’t say it like that!”

“Why not? That’s what could happen! He takes her home, she invites him inside for some coffee to thank him, and then one thing leads to another…bam! They’re going at it on her couch!”

“Emma is going to file a complaint with HR about you.”

“If it gets she and Jones together, it’ll be worth it. I mean, come on. They’re adorable, and my God, the sexual tension makes me need some water to cool down.”

“Do you guys have anything new to say or is it going to be more trying to convince me to date the IT guy who walks in here to steal our peppermints and fix our computers when they break down three times a day?” Emma asks, half pretending to still be working.

Ruby and Mary Margaret stop looking at each other and look at her, brows to their foreheads and smiles slipping away more and more each second. “He comes in here to flirt, and you know it.”

Emma shrugs and grabs another peppermint. “He’s a friendly guy, easy to talk to, likes peppermints. I have peppermints.”

“Oh my God,” Ruby groans, dropping her head to the desk. “You’re killing me. Absolutely killing me.”

“You know, Emma, there’s no rule against office romances,” Mary Margaret suggests. “I think you should give it a shot.”

Emma rolls her eyes and keeps typing in patient information. “Maybe I will, but maybe I’m not going to ask him out until my time here is up just to torture the both of you.”

She has no intention of asking him out, but they don’t have to know that.

They gasp, and Emma knows she’s won this round. It doesn’t matter, though, because they’ll be back at her desk to have this conversation again after the next few times Killian walks through the office. And he does walk through the office at least seven more times that day. He has to fix her computer, then Ruby’s, and then there’s a near catastrophe where the digital filing system shuts down. Another time he comes in before lunch, asking everyone in the office if they’d like anything from the hospital deli, and then he comes back with salads for everyone, eating with the three of them and Jeff from IT. Once more he comes in for a peppermint, saying he just couldn’t have his breath smell any longer, but he stays and chats for fifteen minutes about a new ice skating rink he’s thinking of taking his friend Rob’s kid to. He suggests Emma should check it out, and then Ruby makes a sexual joke about ice skating, which is something Emma didn’t even know could be sexual if you weren’t a professional who could do all those lifts and dances or whatever. Emma is fit, but she couldn’t do that.

Finally, he comes into the office a little before five thirty, his car keys in hand, and Emma grabs her things and walks with him out of the office and back up into sunlight, which she forgot existed. She’ll barely get to see any of it, however, because it’s December and the sun basically sets at noon.

She is definitely going to have a vitamin D deficiency soon. Maybe she should start taking vitamins.

She and Killian talk about their days during the ride to her apartment, but mostly Emma sits in silence and listens to the radio, letting her eyes rest from staring at small print and a computer screen all day. It’s an adjustment for her to work regular hours, and all she wants now is to consume an entire pizza and have a large glass of wine.

Or two. Two large glasses of wine sound good.

When Emma opens her eyes, Killian is parked outside her building, his car idling, and she blinks herself away, undoing her seatbelt and sitting up. “Thank you for the ride, Jones.”

“Not a problem, love.”

She twists to the side, looking at him, and thinks of what Ruby and Mary Margaret said earlier.. “You want to come in for some coffee?”

“You know I won’t be able to sleep tonight if I have caffeine this late.”

Emma shrugs and leans over the console to press her lips to his, lingering as Killian’s hand comes to cup her cheek, his fingers threading through her ponytail as he tugs her closer. He tastes like peppermint, and it makes Emma smile.

“I know,” Emma sighs, pressing her forehead to his. “But I need coffee if I’m going to stay up until a normal hour, and I need to deal with my car tonight. Do you think it’s a goner?”

Killian pinches his brows and kisses her again, his tongue teasing her bottom lip, but he pulls back and crosses her arms over her chest, waiting for his real answer, even if she already knows. “I think we can look at it, have a mechanic look at it, and then look at it again when you disagree with the mechanic, but I think it may be time to lay the bug to rest. It had a good run, and I will always hold dear the memory of you nearly hitting me with it.”

“You can’t say I don’t make a great first impression.” She laughs at the memory and the way Killian had told her to go fuck herself, but quickly her heart drops and she groans, wondering how many curses she can mutter in a thirty-second time frame. Probably not as many as Killian did that day. The British know how to curse. “I don’t have the money for a new car. What am I going to do?”

“I can take you to work. We’re going to be at the same place for at least another month or so. And who knows? Maybe you’ll get another job at the hospital. And if not, I can still take you to work and pick you up. We’ve been sleeping at each other’s places most nights anyway. If you don’t want that, there are several different public transportation options. But I think Mary Margaret and Ruby would die if I took you to work in the morning.”

He waggles his brows and smirks, leaning into her, and Emma can’t help the smile that creeps up on her. They didn't want it to be a thing that they were dating because Emma wanted to get the job on her own, so they never told anyone. “They would actually die. I mean, seriously. They told me I should invite you up for coffee and then ride you on my couch, and you know, that doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea.”

“Well, I would have been up for that even without the coffee invitation, love.”

“That a double entendre?”

“Of course.” He reaches over and grabs her hand, threading their fingers together. “When do you think you’re going to tell them we started dating months before you started at the hospital?”

Emma shrugs and leans back, smiling. “Eh, I think one day we should walk in holding hands and let them think it’s new.”

“Tomorrow? I could give you a mark on your collarbone to really drive them crazy.”

“Absolutely not, but nice try buddy.” She nods her head toward the building. “Come inside with me and let’s get dinner. Pizza sound good?”

“Pizza sounds fantastic, love.”

They walk inside holding hands a month later, and Mary Margaret stumbles while Ruby drops her coffee over her computer’s keyboard. Killian is the one who fixes it, and Ruby is still so shocked she can’t interrogate him while he works.

Emma has a feeling Ruby Lucas has never been shocked silent, and Emma can barely hold in her laughter.

She never does tell them how long she and Killian were dating. She doesn’t think their computers could take it.

She does find them in their office a year later, though, when they’re back in Community Outreach and she’s working in the conference center – which has windows! – and shows them the ring on her finger.

Ruby, thankfully, didn’t have any coffee in her hands.

5. What was their childhood fear?

Being alone or left behind. It was definitely a threat when they were a kid like "if you aren't on the caravan before we leave at noon, we're leaving you behind". I don't think their parents would have actually left them behind when they were small but it was enough of a threat that they and their siblings listened for the most part. Its not so much a childhood fear as it is a regular adult fear now.

18. If they could live or visit anywhere, where would they go?

Tinsel really likes where they live but they do have dreams about living on a sunny coast with their partners when they all settle down. Idk if there's anywhere specific they want to visit? They just go where the adventure leads them. I think they would like to visit somewhere to meet up with their family, tho.

20. What did they dream of "growing up" to be?

Oh man, Tinsel wanted to be an A List celebrity actor. They wanted to be lead role in blockbusters. It was a big goal for them but they were sure they could do it.

27. Have they achieved any of their childhood dreams? Are they still trying? Have those dreams changed?

They've gotten some of their childhood dreams! They moved to Holly Bay and made tons of friends. They got to act in live theater. They were almost in a movie! They got some notoriety from adventuring and were on TV for it. They got to kiss their childhood crush. They didn't quite make it to the A List after getting blacklisted but they're def still trying.

In regards to how they changed: I don't think they changed too much but they did see how hard it was to achieve them. Plus, they started dreaming about having a family when they were with Bast so that's definitely something they want now.

31. Who are they when they aren't with the party?

When they're not with the party, Tinsel is way less open about themself. They're a master of either talking around a question or lying by omission and they use it when they don't feel comfortable sharing. Pre-adventure, they didn't really even tell their closest friends the entire truth about their backstory (which is honestly buckwild and hard to believe anyway) or their relationship with Bast or really anything about their love/sex life.

I think it's bc they don't think Kira and Zona will judge them.

39. If someone could tell them anything about the future they asked, would they want to know? Would they ask?

I think they have actually, they asked if they were going to get married. I don't think they would want to ask something super serious because they aren't going to listen to a no.

40. What sets them free?

A good support system. Tinsel's very talented and driven but they need the power of friendship to keep them from burning out.

Nila

13. How do they like to spend afternoons free?

Nila likes to paint. She dipped her toe into art forgery for a little bit but decided it was more fun to steal the real thing and do her own work on the side. She has one of those cute little travel watercolors she uses to paint landscapes when she gets some time alone. Absolutely no one knows she has this hobby.

28. If they could change their class(es), would they? To what?

I dont think she'd change her class from rogue but she would def take some wizard skills.

Roman

11. What were their teenage years like?

He was a horrible teenage boy, mostly bc he wanted attention. He started off with red hair but occasionally made it redder when he got teased about it. He activated the Cain instinct in a lot of his siblings but I think Tinsel tried to kicked his ass the most purely due to how close their ages are. He shot them with an arrow by accident once and never lived it down.

His mom taught him archery at around 14-15 and he got very good at it to try and impress her. He left home around 18/19, picked up some odd jobs/repaired archery equipment professionally for a few years until Nila called him up like "hey bro miss you let's do this heist together".

6. Did they grow up with siblings? What were those relationships like?

Yes lmao my boy has 9 siblings. I sort of talked about this in the last question but yeah he liked to stir the pot for attention. Even though they tried to kick his ass, his siblings still love him. Him and Saoirse always got along really well and I'm p sure she stopped him from actually getting murdered as a kid lol. He really doesn't have a bad relationship with any of them, though, besides still owing Scone a bunch of money. Rome's a lot of fun and he's the kind of guy who will give or share anything with you. He is just A Lot.

7. How were their relationships with their parents/guardians growing up?

He def knew he wasn't the favorite child lol. I think once Knox realized why his kid was acting up, he made sure to spend some extra time with him every once and a while. And once he showed promise in archery, his relationship with Fulki got better too. I think he has an okay relationship with his parents right now but he definitely would never live with them again.

4. Who was their childhood hero?

Their dad! They're very similar people and he looks up to him a lot.

19. How does the high noon sun make them feel?

Sleepy... It's too darn hot. He's 100% not interested in going out at high noon so he's either taking a nap or hanging out somewhere shady with Folsom.

Saoirse

20. What did they dream of "growing up" to be?

I don't know if Saoirse had one specific dream. What she did know is that she didn't want to get married and she didn't want to have kids. I think she went through a bunch of phases on what she wanted to be when she grew up until she landed on being a wizard. When that stuck, she just leaned hard into it.

25. What is their comfort item/habit?

She's definitely one of those "make a hot beverage when I'm stressed" kind of people. She's also a stress baker... Which used to be a "make potions and light stuff on fire" habit but she realized she gets muffins if she bakes instead.

She also has a bunch of stuffed animals in her room, purely because she's an adult wizard and no one can tell her not to have stuffies.

27. Have they achieved any of their childhood dreams? Are they still trying? Have those dreams changed?

Oh, she totally achieved the wizard thing and now she's a real Howl Pendragon figure. She got bored being by herself so she applied to get some apprentices, but due to a clerical error, she wound up with a couple of brothers (Max and Arseny) who were way too young to be apprentices. She's basically raising them as her kids (they call her mama and the Townes all consider them grandkids/nephews lol) but Saoirse insists they're still her apprentices in public.

Fionn

6. Did they grow up with siblings? What were those relationships like?

Fionn was the golden oldest brother! He and Saoirse were basically 3rd/4th parents so the rest of the siblings came to love/respect him. He was really good at keeping the peace. Dude would have made a fantastic diplomat. The siblings especially liked when he told them stories about life before their family left the Muirs or stories about knights/heroes. It was a rough day when he disappeared and the siblings that remember him really miss him.

7. How were their relationships with their parents/guardians growing up?

Very strained. Like, he was def the favorite child, but Fionn really had some childhood trauma from The Fall that they couldn't help him with bc they also had it. He sort of resents that he got put into the auxiliary parent role on top of it. I think ultimately they expected way too much out of him so it was only natural he'd disappear and be feral.

10. When did their childhood end?

I don't think it was a definite ending, more of a gradual thing around his early teens when he realized he had a lot of responsibilities.

Scone

21. How did they become an adventurer?

Scone's best friend Latte (a Yuke who's good with magic) sent her a letter that suggested they'd make a good caravanning team. She was itching to leave the family caravan (she was tired of bailing her siblings out and knew that adventuring was good money) so she agreed!

23. What is their role in the party? Not just their class on a meta level, but among the individuals who make up the party?

Imagine a buff accountant and you have Scone lol.

Like Tinsel, Scone is the tank in combat. However, unlike Tinsel, Scone is weirdly responsible. She makes sure all the supplies are stocked and in order, makes sure everyone takes care of themselves and she keeps track of their earnings. She can be outgoing but she prefers to let her team do the social leg work.

How long will they last? - Honestly I think these two can go one of two ways. Either they’re endgame, that one couple that people don’t quite understand how they never even fight but they work so well and it just keeps working no matter what. Or, they face a really big issue early on - like wanting to do very different things after graduation - and can’t get through it. If that happens though, they’d both regret not trying harder, and best case get back together later one.

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - I don’t think it takes long, it’s almost love at first sight, but it takes them both a while to realise it’s anything other than admiration, and even longer to confess.

How was their first kiss? - Kind of a mess! Noya was probably a bit too enthusiastic, and Asahi was probably too nervous, so it didn’t go very well. But they learned pretty quickly.

Wedding:

Who proposed? - Probably Asahi. I feel like Noya would have been so happy with them dating he kinda...forgot marriage was an option. Like, what they had was so good so he forgot there was another level they could go to. Not that it changes much between them anyway.

Who is the best man/men? - Well, this one’s easy. Noya would have Tanaka. Asahi would have Daichi and/or Suga.

Who is the braid’s maid(s)? -If they have one at all, it’s Kiyoko. But they might not have one.

Who did the most planning? - Again, probably Asahi. He would have wanted to make at least their suits, if not also the outfits for their groomsmen and possible bridesmaid ...groomsmaid? So he’d have had to make sure they worked with all the decor and everything. Plus, he’s kind of more organised than Noya - but Noya still got his say in pretty much everything.

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - I think they had crushes on each other for a while. They didn't officially say "I love you" till a few months into their relationship, but they thought it sooner.

How was their first kiss? - I wrote a lesbian Lexthan version of their first kiss, though I don't think canon Lexthan's first kiss was like that. I imagine it to be not really planned out; just like they're talking to each other in the car and lock eyes, then slowly lean in and kiss. Since they've had kisses before, it's not a catastrophe, and it's actually fairly soft.

Wedding:

Who proposed? - Ethan. Wrote a whole ass fic about it.

Who is the best man/men? - I know who the best man is in my fics (it's my man Marsh, for those who have read it), but idk about the canon Ethan's best man. Maybe Danny (the Smoke Club Boy) but I'm not sure if they'd be friends enough to be his best man. He might not have one.

(Fun fact! That happened to me when I was 3. I fell from a steel elephant shaped jungle gym at a German zoo, hit my chin on a steel bar, and bit through my lower lip/knocked 3 teeth out. I still have the scar years later lol)

If Lex or Ethan would go to a PTA meeting, it'd most likely be because they wanted to yell at a teacher or principal. They might go seperately or together depending on the severity of the issue.

Who cried the most at graduation? - Ethan wouldn't admit he cried, but he did. So did Lex.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Oh bitch, Lex and Ethan both said fuck the law. If it was just like, an overnight jail cell for some stupid misdemeanor, they might try to break their kid out. Otherwise, Lex would probably the one paying the bail because Ethan would try to punch the cop in the face if the cop talked shit about Ethan's kid. That reaction is not exclusive to cops.

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking? - Neither of them are exactly 5 star chefs, but they can hold on their own. Lex is better at cooking breakfast and Ethan is better at cooking dinner- but if he's exhuasted from work, Lex can cook dinner for him.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - Neither are picky. Both of them grew up young scrappy and hungry just like their country without really the chance to be picky. They had to take what they could get.

Who does the grocery shopping? - Lex. She's good at calculating totals in her head. I wrote that in an unrealeased fic.

How often do they bake desserts? - Rather rarely. Perhaps on special occasions or to bond. Ethan has ruined the kitchen with his kid trying to bake a cake for Lex at least once. Maybe more.

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - More than definitely it was a slow burn kind of thing. Since Bucky doesn’t entirely believe he deserves these kinds of things, being that he spent the majority of his life feeling worthless and used.

Who proposed? - Bucky, was born in the thirties, raised in the forties. That man definitely is the one that would propose. He would feel awful for not being the one. As he was raised ‘right’ to believe the man should ask the woman. As it’s much more romantic to him. Not that he would be against being proposed to. Bucky would be more of a “Commit the crime, do the time.” Kind of parent, as he wants his kids to ‘do better than him’ in this moralistic questioning. And, believes that bailing the child out will only instill in them that someone will always be their to bail them out. That’s just not how the world works, however. So Bucky would want them to learn a lesson here.

How often do they bake desserts? - Bucky would probably be trying to learn all this new modern stuff that he did not have growing up or captured by Hydra. So he is more than likely to be the one to cook this, yes. But he might also include Kara, for fun.

Then there are dance houses and the usual club or bar. But Bucky’s not in great need of visiting such places. He’s perfectly fine staying in with Kara and reading a book or enjoying some show or movie.

Who cleans the room? - They both more than likely do this if they are both home. Or will be fine cleaning if one is not and the other is. So it’s an equal effort.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - Holiday’s weren’t something particularly grand when he was growing up. Enjoyable to a degree, back then. Though he’s not a big fan of Halloween, now. He probably has gotten more into the spirit of holidays now that he can celebrate them in full of the modern day flair.

What are their goals for the relationship? - To be with someone they could spend the rest of their lives with, even if sometimes they might want to claw each others eyes out over stupid arguments or something.

Who is most likely to sleep till noon? - Bucky has a lot of Trauma and sleeping helps keep it away. But it also does not. So it depends, though Bucky is the more likely party to do so, being up and down all night otherwise.
