Hi again. Post #2 - some new art! There's actually a pretty good story here- I brought a few paintings over to my mom's to show her, left them there, in a "safe place so we'll remember" but evidently you know where that leads. 4 months later we found them :) In a really obvious place. Of course. Cheers - n. c. Painting is "decay", acrylic and ink on waxed paper mounted on board. https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/520397384/decay #painting #abstract # red #black #city #skyline #melting #aaaaaah #waxedpaper #nontraditionalmaterials #iliketopaint #makersgonnamake #newblog #sawtooth #readytohang #handmade #art #artist #goth

I am so happy that this painting found a home. I consider this to be a preliminary work for Photosynthesis. I thought a lot about how to use texture and material in this piece. When you use material that sparkles, it accentuates the sparkle when you add depth. It also creates interesting shadows. I applied this experiment to Photosynthesis. Even though I prefer to use white backgrounds, there is a lot going on in these backgrounds to indicate space and environment. The lack of information says a lot (I use that idea in all my work), but then I thought, what if there actually is a lot of information in these blank spaces. Like there is more to your initial response to the white background. I like the idea of erasure, and the act of making the viewer fill in the blanks. But wait, there’s more. If you look close, there are stars. My use of glitter and broken non traditional materials speak of childhood innocence and fragility. Since having kids I have been obsessed with their fresh view of the world. After becoming a mother, I have been terrified of the moments this view will be tarnished. This piece also has some surprises and I hope the viewer looks at it at various times of the day (and night). This is an original watercolor painting on panel, made out of handmade watercolors and 24k gold leaf. There are also moon stones embedded. . . . . . #art #painting #contemporarypainting #moon #sun #botanicalart #sparkle #plants #botanical #photosynthesis #materialstudies #artstudies #artwork #nontraditionalmaterial #watercolor #watercolour #watercoloronpanel #plants #florist #biology #greenart #goldleaf #mixedmedia #glasspainting #morethanpretty #artwithmeaning https://www.instagram.com/p/B5iL-83HSFz/?igshid=1i5g7o16x204g

Jacquelyn Strycker
had the lovely piece below in Art on Paper 2023: The 47th Exhibition. Combining the unusual and routine, the extraordinary and mundane, she brings together life’s many aspects of inherent spontaneity and attempted order. She merges handmade methods of sewing with the mechanical technology of the risograph-a now outdated printing machine once used widely by schools and churches to create materials…

Vera Molnar
A 1927 painting by Paul Klee inspired this series by Vera Molar for which she programmed a computer to “place parallel lines within a square grid and vary the alignment (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) and the weight of lines as well as their closeness.” Numerous variations could be produced, which allowed her to “bring to light and to realize images…which only pre-existed in a vague, uncertain…

Tomashi Jackson
Tomashi Jackson makes compositions—often three-dimensional assemblages composed of layered paper, textiles, plastics, embroidery, prints, photo transfers, and other materials—that meditate on the systemic abuse, disenfranchisement, and displacement of communities of color. #tomashijackson

Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez Jimenez
Maria (who shows with David Castillo) has developed an index of color relations to determine specific emotions, memories and spirituality. The colors can be autonomous or have a new meaning altogether when encountering other colors and the forms they inhabit. The artist’s work is about the history of her body (a Cuban born body) in a permanent state of displacement and exile. Her paintings try to…

Lindsay Packer
Generative relationships between luminous color and ephemeral form propel Lindsay Packer’s site-responsive work in performance, installation, film and video, photography and streaming media. She plays with the call and response of color and light, form and site, engaging an analog/digital continuum of shifting chroma and temporary geometries in which color and form are inseparable. She’s included…

Final post about 2024 Artfields artists*. Cristina works with remnants of previous textile projects as well as materials donated by local makers in Charleston, and expands her study of the cane weaving pattern into a large-scale installation. Her relationship to cane weaving is one of nostalgia rooted in her memory of my elders, their homes and communing spaces. More *see also Brent, Kristy,…
