Roaming the Mineral-Rich Southern Lunar Terrain // Alien_Enthusiast
Read below the cut for some info about which craters are featured and a map to help identify them!
In birth order of their eponyms:

Awake Remembrance of These Valiant Dead got defeated by a Woken Remembrance of Valiant Dead - Matthias Nonius.
Abigail Pent 'woke' Nonius by summoning him from the river,
Nonius is influenced by Ortus' Noniad (like speaking in meter): he's not just Matthias Nonius, he's Matthias Nonius as 'remembered' by the Ninth House
And Nonius is considered one of the Ninth's House's most 'valiant dead'

Y’know, I really think I was on to something when I said Nonius is the only one who was able to live for the Ninth and die beyond it

(clears throat) "Born down in dark drearburh, where the skeleton plows/came the cavalier prim'ry of our humble house." With some very minor adjustments, the Ballad of Chavo Guerrero fits Ortus Nigenad's hero worship and father issues perfectly. "He was my hero back when I was a kid/You let me down but he never once did."

See the thing is, you read HtN and like yeah, obviously lobotomizing yourself so a dead girl’s soul doesn’t get cannibalized is completely fucking wild and you probably have to love someone at least a little to do that, but Harrow has spent the whole book having tension with Ianthe and fervently claiming to be in love with the Body— and then you get to Act V and Harrow is literally weeping wailing feral about Gideon, constructing Prince!Gideon AUs (which, she doesn’t know about Gideon’s paternity!! She is simply drawing upon a (romantic!!!) genre trope!!!) and role reversal AUs and fucking coffee shop AUs about Gideon, and she’s refusing to go back to her own body, and Abigail and Magnus and Dulcie so obviously and completely believe that Harrow is in love with Gideon because they directly compare them to Abigail and Magnus, and she says she’s saving the last dance. Agh!!! Aggghhhhh!!!!!!

I'm only ~2/3 of the way through Harrow, so idk how confirmed this is, and don't spoil it for me, but the Noniad is a Gideon reference, right?
Spoilers for the amount of Harrow that I've gotten though.
Whenever we get one of those Cannan House fake flashback chapters, Ortus is always quoting “the Noniad,” a never-ending Homer reference he's writing in tribute to Nonius, the supposed best cavalier in the history of the Ninth.
Nonius isn't an unknown figure either; he's mentioned a few times in the first book, and almost always when someone praises Gideon. We knew nothing of the Noniad, but people were always comparing Gideon to Nonius, saying she could never live up to him, or calling her the best Ninth cavalier since his passing. It's not super overt, but a connection is undoubtedly put forth between the two.
Harrow, for her part, fucking hates the Noniad. Every time Ortus quotes it, which is often, she's always got some remark about how much it, and/or he, annoys her. He's seemingly been writing this her entire life, and that seems to have given her exactly zero nostalgia for it.
Except, and noticing this was what put me on this interpretation, Harrow knows this extremely long poem from front to back. Every time Ortus quotes it, you can bet on her internal monologue telling us exactly which book that quote is from, and sometimes even the specific line. She keeps saying how much she doesn't care about and/or hates it, but she knows it far better than mere quotes in her presence would normally allow, well enough to place random lines and reference it in her free time. She’d never admit it, but this girl has read the Noniad, at least once.
So to summarize, the Noniad is a poem that's been in the process for Harrow’s entire life, which is written by the Ninth cavalier and is about the legendary swordsman Nonius. Harrow professes that she hates it, but she also seems to care about it quite a bit, at least more so than she says.
Tamsyin Muir you are fucking taunting me.

A long rant justifying one minor parallel of dialogue in Gideon the Ninth...
[GtN, Harrow sees the end, maybe the entire, duel between Gideon and Naberius Tern... After the Response trial, she says a very important thing, imo.] At the end of that fight, when Gideon gets the move on Babs and punches him, pulling back and getting ready to fight again, and Babs bitches about her, Naberius calls Gideon out saying she thinks “she’s some Nonius come-again,” and says she’s more of a brawler than a *real* fighter, like him. The Third’s technique is impeccable. Perfect. Pristine. Clean… preserved… stale… so maybe he’s upset that he lost to someone who was creative while at a handicap. Gideon could’ve taken off her glasses and her cloak. Hell, she could’ve USED the cloak like a net, which would indeed fit with a style of fighting consistent with the Cohort in a real fight, you use everything you’ve got. You stick the other bastard before they can stick you, or else yer dead. (thank you @chuusyfucker for positing the idea of the cloak itself as a weapon that went unused in that duel) and yet, after the trial in Response, when Harrow is babbling gayly about how impressive and incredible it was to see Gideon fight, *through* her own eyes, she makes special mention that Gideon is, indeed, “like Nonius come-again” There is no way she did not hear Naberius Tern make that shit-ass remark at her cav. There is no way she didn’t remember that statement and specifically draw a comparison in the moment she did, explicitly to tell Gideon, “no, for real tho, you *do* fight like Matthias Nonius (no really, you can trust me on this, I have idetic memory, and I have the horrid misfortune of knowing every verse of Ortus’ Noniad… if anybody would know and recognize [who is alive and here today], it may well be me)” I honestly just love how defensive she gets for her here. it's super sweet, and also marks a serious inflection point in their relationship and the overall narrative of GtN long rant summed; Harrow, gone fan-girl post Response, tells Gideon she very well *could* be Matthias Nonius come-again, is super gay for her in ways, and is super fucking proud of her cav

In life I was only a man. But the Ninth House granted me honor, and made me, unworthy, its servant.
I speak with the voice of the tomb, and my strength is the strength of the black gate - Why am I speaking in meter?
