Last night I had a dream which I fear was a horrible prophetic vision of the future.

There was a new, absurdly popular romantasy book out and I decided to read it to see what all the hype was about.

Halfway through the book the protagonist was about to enter a situation which could be deemed problematic. The chapter ended as she was on the threshold of this situation.

What came next was a full chapter of the author apologising for the problematic nature of the book, describing why it was a problematic choice to assure the reader she knew why it was bad, how that factored into our society, why it existed in the fantasy society she was writing about, and then providing a second ending/direction for people who did not want to continue the book given the Problematic Choice.

It was so long that I couldn't work out where the apology chapter ended and the rest of the book picked back up, and I was so mad about it that I threw the book away.

Okay I need a writer/ readers opinion

I have a fic which I'm working on ( i know surprising) but the thing with me is that I write in a fluid way like I can't break the story into chapters! So I was thinking of making it a one shot but the thing is the fic is like 40k words ( my plan ) but would anyone read a 40k-50k one shot 😭 ?
