While the device at bottom left may at first appear to be an IBM Selectric I, I believe it is in fact an IBM 2741 teletypewriter! More below the cut.
Our first clue to the identity this machine is that it’s prob not a typewriter, because a normal typewriter cannot interface with a computer (unless modifications like these have been under taken.) So, I looked up the Honeywell 6080, and while it is mentioned in multiple places that this computer comes with a “control console”, I saw no mention of the specific device. A few more searches told me that IBM did make a teletype that looked like a Selectric I, the IBM 2741, I couldn’t get a connection between the IBM and the Honeywell. HOWEVER, the documentation for the Honeywell does mention the Datanet 355 as an option for remote processing, and a brochure for the Datanet 355 mentions the IBM 2741 specifically as one of it’s compatible terminals.

You know that scene in Practical Magic where Sally admits to Gary Hallett she worked a spell to only fall in love with a man who didn’t exist—in an effort to protect herself from heartbreak—but realized as an adult what she actually did was accidentally summon a man with all the exact qualities she believed unobtainable right to her?
Alan Wake x Agent Casey is like the nega version of that.
Alan wrote a hot disaster dom he was super horny for (and maybe was repressed about?)—who he also projected heavily onto—who turns out to be real and now has to live with the consequences.
#I can see Alan as the kind of guy who messed around with guys in college#but doesn’t want to talk about it once he’s in a relationship with Alice#also he and Zane *absolutely* fucked in the oceanview motel#he’s a repressed bisexual your honor#(or if not repressed about being bisexual than just repressed about wanting to sub)#Alex Casey is a non repressed bisexual#but Alan never included all the visions he had of Casey fucking guys in the books#(because selling a hard boiled bisexual noir detective in the early 2000s was impossible)#edit: I said he keeps all those scenes on a separate harddrive#but I forgot this was the pretentious fool who wears tweed and does all his writing on a typewriter#so he just shoves all the pages in a locked chest under his bed#Alan Wake x Alex Casey

The pandemic gets me down and makes me feel like extended concentration hurts (also, hi ADHD). I used to do these massive quilting projects where I'd hyperfocus, but lately I just ain't got it with managing all the other stuff, so this is my little art project. I get three lines, a typewriter I picked up at some random antique store with an old tape and sticky keys. No do-overs, and it comes out how it comes out. I'll add sketches if the spirit moves, starting in pencil and then over the top with fountain pen. I don't tie myself to doing it every day, so I'll do a bunch at once if I fall behind. Then I snip and paste into my passport size traveler's notebook.

Alternatives to google docs
For various reasons, this is now a hot topic. I'm putting my favorites here, please add more in your reblogs. I'm not pointing to Microsoft Word because I hate it.
Local on your computer:
1.
LibreOffice (https://www.libreoffice.org/), Win, Linux, Mac.
Looks like early 2000 Word, works great, imports and exports all formats. Saves in OpenDocumentFormat. Combine with something like Dropbox for Cloud Backup.
2.
FocusWriter (https://gottcode.org/focuswriter/) Win, Linux.
Super customizable to make it look pretty, all toolbars hide to be as non-distracting as possible. Can make typewriter sounds as you type, and you can set daily wordcount goals. Saves in OpenDocumentFormat. Combine with something like Dropbox for Cloud Backup.
3.
Scrivener (https://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener/overview) Win, Mac, iOS
The lovechild of so many writers. Too many things to fiddle with for me, but I'm sure someone else can sing its praises. You can put the database folder into a Dropbox folder for cloud saving (but make sure to always close the program before shutting down).
Web-based:
4.
Reedsy bookeditor (https://reedsy.com/write-a-book) Browser based, works on Firefox on Android. Be aware that they also have a TOS that forbids pornography on publicly shared documents.
My current writing program. Just enough features to be helpful, not so many that I start fiddling. Writing is chapter based, exports to docx, epub, pdf. You can share chapters (for beta reading) with other people registered at Reedsy.
5.
Novelpad (https://novelpad.co/) Browser based.
Looks very promising, there's a youtuber with really informative videos about it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHN8TnwjG1g). I wanted to love it, but the editor didn't work on Firefox on my phone. It might now, but I'm reluctant to switch again.
------
So, this is my list. Please add more suggestions in reblogs.

sorry I just have to use this blog as a diary to write down every special "actors breaking/audience reaction" moment from that last Merrily performance to (a) get it out of my system and (b) put it down somewhere in case i forget a single second of it.
during the overture, if you were sitting close enough you could hear the actors cheering backstage and we all started to laugh because they were so rowdy
Every single member of the ensemble got applause during their entrance not just the leads.
jonathan groff entered the stage with tears visibly rolling down his face
as i've said before, franklin shepard inc. got the first and maybe biggest mid-show standing ovation of the night and daniel radcliffe who was already on the verge of tears broke down crying. it was beautiful.
they had so much fun during "old friends." there's a bit where they're all dancing and mary accidentally goes the wrong way (which is scripted) and lindsay went "oh shit" in such a loud, funny, "this is unscripted" way that everyone lost it.
they got a huge standing ovation after "old friends," and just stood on the trunk laughing and bantering through the applause to keep the bit going (half in character, half as themselves). Their mics were cut but this went on for a full 3 minutes and i wish i could lip-read.
In general, lindsay was generally coping by being even funnier than usual. She hissed at gussie so vigorously during the scene where they're in gussie's apartment that everyone in the cast almost lost it.
more on lindsay being so funny: during the bit where gussie and frank are in his apartment and mary and charley are outside and gussie says "can they [meaning mary and charley] see us?" and the last time i saw it charley and mary just pointedly steal a glance inside to indicate that yes they can see inside. this time lindsay waved to them so aggressively to say "yes we can see you" that jonathan groff broke laughing.
I didn't actually hear them perform much of "it's a hit" because it got interrupted by applause every five seconds. There was one long standing ovation during the "tony" bit and another at the end. But also just constant applause interruptions throughout. They went "it's the sound of an audience losing its mind" and we all just lost our fucking minds mid-song. Reg got cheers for “it's funny girl, fiddler and dolly combiiiiine—“ so he literally had to add the "d" in "combined" after the applause, which just caused more cheering and laughing.
During "opening doors," frank types something on Charley's typewriter and Dan has previously said Jonathan writes him a dirty/funny joke every night. Whatever the fuck he wrote that last night made Dan break and laugh and shake his head. And the audience lost it.
Everyone crying during "not a day goes by" and "good thing going." Jonathan openly weeping looking at Dan during "good thing going." Dan looking straight ahead to avoid crying.
When Dan entered for the final rooftop scene, J Groff just lost it when Dan goes "is something wrong" and started crying instead of saying his line (shoulders shaking, back to the audience) and Dan's face was just like "don't do this to me." so everyone in the audience went "awww" and clapped for them until they were ready to jump back in.
all three of them just crying non-stop during "our time." When Frank goes "after this moment that the three of us are sharing, nothing is ever going to be like it was" everyone in my section gasped and people just started crying. and then also Dan and Lindsay both just lingered (with tears in their eyes) and shared a long moment with J Groff before exiting to leave him alone for the blackout.
#merrily we roll along#you don't need to read this it's genuinely for me to try to remember every detail of this for the rest of time
