“i spiked the egg nog.” //for rue
welcome to the holiday season meme + @sunxsin // ling
tis the season, or whatever - the point where things at nevermore kind of get slow, and everyone's just waiting - it's almost time! for the school break, and frankly, rue's never been one lately to really get all EXCITED for the holidays... but it's also the first that she's really gotten to share with ling in, like, forever - and wasn't that something to look forward to? even though she wasn't sure what the hell to get for the boy who could really afford to buy whatever his little heart happened to wish upon for a whim... and didn't he? often? overindulgence feeling a little bit like a personality trait for him by now, but one that thankfully she found endearing in all too many ways. it's kind of cute, right? but like... it definitely made things really hard when it came to gift giving, and planning.
" i spiked the egg nog. "
... case and point, in moments like this. whenever rue got down to planning, it seemed as if ling could almost SENSE her stress, sweeping in with good news as always, in tidings. it's one of the many things that rue both admires and appreciates about him, even if it did prove to be like, super distracting. because as soon as he was on the scene, it was like, all her sense went along with it, because her capacity for planning? dropped to like, absolute zero, already leaning into his side over the bowl as she scooped out a whole solo cup full for herself, shooting him a grin.
"okay but like, how strong is it. strong enough for ME, or is it strong according to you." rue's learned a long time ago that there was a distinct difference between the two, a grin forming on her lips as she brought it up to sniff at, almost cautiously, before she's taking a leisurely sip. her expression changing, a low groan already heard from her. "fuck. i can tell it's good. and i can't even taste it? either you made the most lethal or the most mild drink ever. i guess it's up to you and me to figure out which it is before the end of the night. do you accept this mission, mr yao?" oh, oh - she had a feeling that all bets were off, and wasn't that a divine thing for them to share? a definite new memory for her to tuck away before they slipped into yet another new year.

❛ fine, i’ll be nice. but just until the holidays are over. ❜ — for reno!
reno's grin widened, his flung a loose arm over her, sure as shit about to get shoved off anyway so what's it matter. ⠀ ❛ ⠀ that's a good girl, ⠀ ❜ ⠀he cooed in her ear, teasingly before hopping off her once she went to shrug him off. red ponytail rest over his shoulder but slid back once he raised his arm in sheepish defense. ⠀ ❛ ⠀ ah come on, I was just joking- just playing ! ⠀ ❜ ⠀he mused, his tone humorous before he dropped his hands to his side.
⠀ ❛ ⠀I appreciate it though, for real. it's Christmas and even you don't need to be grouchy and mean for the holidays, ⠀ ❜ ⠀ he took an odd tone of seriousness, a quick turn of his head and eyes fluttered about the room. ⠀ ❛ ⠀in fact, there's egg nog, have you ever had it ? ⠀ ❜ ⠀ he asked casually, leaving out the fact there was alcohol in his brand of egg nog. 1, 2, 9 for the positivity meme!
Spread the Love! Meme | Accepting!
1. What's a roleplay blog whose characterization you admire?
@tongowheel all of Eros's muses are super fun to write with. Cris appreciates Nog and I adore your Enoch (who Emil misses ngl). Steward is in complete awe of Vic. I loved the story we developed for Cris and Zack a long time ago. Although Enoch isn't very active anymore I appreciate you and your Enoch's tragic love for his captain that really helped me get into roleplaying Cris at the beginning.
2. What's a roleplay blog whose writing style you admire?
Yes, I am going to mention Dean many times in these because I love him. @assasenach's writing as Paris/Lorian and previously Sylar is always something I will treasure, as are his fics. We come up with great plots and headcanons and his writing style just goes really well with mine and we just mesh very well, if that's even the right phrasing, you know what I mean. We work really well together.
9. What's a roleplay blog whose dedication you admire?
I'm gonna shout out to @ltbroccoli and @empathicstars for making and maintaining the Star Trek roleplay directory @startrekroleplay I am grateful for you and this totally counts although that particular blog is not a "roleplay blog" itself, it is a blog made by roleplayers for roleplayers.

My Personal Eurovision winners (and then some) Part V: 1990-1999
And at long last, we hit the 90s.
Also known as: my personal favourite decade in terms of overall songs. And also the only decade where I'd gladly change every winner bar like... two if given the chance, because frankly, the 90s winners are...
So... fucking boring. Aside from Insieme 1992 and MAYBE Take me to Your Heaven there's absolutely nothing really worth keeping, and TMTYH only wins because 1999 was one of the most bland, forgettable, thoroughly unmemorable years I've sat through.
But anyways, let's get this show on the road as I introduce some of my personal favourite Eurovision songs of all time.
Emphasis on “some” because, yanno, no real winners allowed in this.
1990- Ireland- Liam Reilly- “Somewhere in Europe”
So I don't need to remind you all that Italy is my ride or die for 1990, and if I do then you clearly haven't been in this fandom long enough. But hey, we’re not talking about winners here and Lord knows I’ve talked about that song so much it’s probably a meme by now, so let’s be different for a change. I’ve made it no secret that 1990 is my personal favourite Eurovision year like, ever, like in terms of songs, hosting, atmosphere, it’s an absolutely wonderful contest from start to finish and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into retro Eurovision. So naturally, I had no shortage of songs I liked for this year. But I still went with Ireland because it’s my favourite and also the lyrics have a special meaning to me. My only complaint is that some of the rhymes are really forced, and I swear the singer changes his accent to pronounce certain words to force the rhyme even harder, which just sounds stupid, but fuck it, I’ll forgive it this time.
1991- Israel- Duo Datz- “Kan”
1991 was a depressing year. Not that the songs were bad, or it had a bad atmosphere, and I dare anyone who shittalks the hosting to try and watch 1983 without wanting to jump off the nearest building, but going into it and knowing Sweden won through a tie breaker, and then hearing how bland and unoriginal it really was in comparison to the rest of the year really left a bad taste in my mouth. Also I had to watch it with Terry Wogan’s commentary, which was about as much fun as listening to your family arguing about politics over Christmas dinner. But I went into 1991 heavily biased in Sweden’s favour since I thought France’s entry was... pretty boring, and ho-lee fuck did this song ever steal my heart. I think it was my second fiddle to you-know-what for almost a year. Spoiler alert: It’s slid down to like 5th or 6th since but still, go listen to this song, it’s awesome.
1992- France- Kali- “Monte la Rivie”
So I’ve shattalked a lot of years so far, but none of them come close to 1992. 1992 is the granddaddy of boring Eurovision years. Everything about it just seemed so... characterless and soulless. I blame the dark, dingy, barely lit stage, like at least with the boring years in the 80s and 70s you have a warmer and more visually interesting stage to look at whilst you fall sleep. This is just inky blackness with the vague outline of a Viking longship looming out of the boring. And trust me, it’s not as interesting as it sounds. This year is so fucking boring that it made a Viking longship look uninteresting. Fuck me. And the winner from 1992 gets shat on a lot for some reason I can’t pin down, because it’s not even that bad, but I barely care about it enough to keep it so fuck it. France deserved a victory after that miserable ending to 1991, and I just happen to like their 1992 song enough for me to safely say they should have won in 1992.
1993- Denmark- Tommy Seebach- “Under stjarnene på himlen”
I always feel like something bad happens any time 1993 is brought up in a conversation. If I didn’t like some of the songs from it then I’d pretend it didn’t happen and we just skipped from 1992 to 1994. But I can’t because it gave me some of my favourite entries of all time, and by that I mean this and Mama Corsica. If Insieme and Conquistador are my number one and two favourite Eurovision songs, then say hello to number three. I love this song. I just so. It’s an absolute joy to listen to, start to finish. Go give it the appreciation it deserved.
1994- Iceland- Sigga- “Nætur”
So way way back when I was first dipping my toes into the world of retro Eurovision, I listened to this song. And I liked it. Then, I forgot about it. Then I watched 1994. I liked Russia and Finland. And also this. Tl;dr, I somehow got into this song again after like 6 years and right now it’s probably one of my favourite entries from Iceland.
1995- Croatia- Magazin & Lidija Horvat- “Nostalgija”
Whaaaaat? An operatic themed entry being my winner? It’s more likely than you think. I blame the fusion, I generally accept opera entries where it’s used to compliment normal singing and not just some bird squealing into a mic whilst her outfit secures the votes for her.
1996- Austria- George Nussbaumer- “Weil’s dr Guat Got”
So who has “Austro-German gospel” on their Eurovision genre bingo card? Because that’s what this is. And it absolutely fucks. At least, in the studio version, because the live version just sounds like trying to accelerate your car in first gear; slow and sluggish. But it’s still better than the turd that actually won so who cares.
1997- The Netherlands- Mrs Einstein- “Niemand heeft nog tijd”
I feel like a lot of people like Love Shine a Light significantly less after ESAL and honestly that’s for the best because it’s really not as good as people pretend it is. But I’d gone off it way before that shitshow so who cares, here’s a better song instead. It’s fast, it’s sharp, it’s very 90s, it’s great.
1998- Cyprus- Michael Hajiyanni- “Genesis”
1998 was a lot like 2016; A fairly solid year with a lot of decent songs, but somehow the three worst possibly entries made it into the top three. I guess the juries decided that year to select the worst singer possible to win this. But more of that later. Anyways, I just preferred this song over all the rest. It’s very dramatic and exotic. I like it.
1999- Germany- Sürpriz, “Reise nach Jerusalem”
I shit on 1999 a lot for being boring as fuck so here, have the only other song that stood out to me after the contest was done.

Nerina Pallot - Stay Lucky
Now, if you know me, or have at least had the ‘pleasure’ (a loose term reader[s]) to have had a conversation with me about music, religion, the economy, politics, memes or well… anything really I’ll probably have managed to shoe-horn in my penchant for a certain Jersey-born singer-songwriter. You may also know that isn’t my first musing about Nerina’s latest body of work I’ve released into the ether (see an extensive & exhaustive list ranking 2014’s Year of the EPs here). There is definitely a 3/4 written piece about the last LP The Sound And The Fury as well, which I never finished or uploaded; however the worry when writing anything about one of your musical heroes is the knowledge that they might just see (or at least tl;dr skim) & feel a sense of agony that their vision and artistry hasn’t been appreciated as intended, which is probably most likely due to my inane way of rambling & probably not articulating what I really want to say very well at all. Or that it just comes across a little bit sycophantic, like that video where Bradley Cooper (before he was famous) is in a studio audience blowing smoke up Sean Penn’s arse.
I digress and I will try to remain relatively concise in regard to what I want to share about Stay Lucky, Nerina’s 6th studio album. The tl;dr version of this is ‘OH MY WORD, WHAT AN ALBUM, BUY IT NOW’, but humour me for now and allow me to expand upon that a little;
The album opens with Juno, the original working title for the LP and a towering behemoth of an opener. Classic Nerina songwriting, however with a grand musical soundscape, reminding me of something that could be found on Kate Bush’s Ariel (albeit with a little more pop-sensibility & a lot more melody, Kate I love you, but I’m correct on this one) - “The prettiest bird in all of the world’s at my window” is repeated through the bridge before a soaring glide into the abyss around 2:35, followed by some stunning interpolation as the track draws to a close. The fluttering recalls the noise I think a bird’s wings would make if tied to musical instruments, anyway Juno is the one™ for me, but let’s not let that fool you into thinking the rest of Stay Lucky isn’t worth every loving crafted second of the 46:43 the records’ running time. The first time I heard Man Didn’t Walk On The Moon was its debut on Radio 2 while at my parents’ house, my mum relayed how catchy she thought it was and gosh wasn’t she right? Perfectly coquettish delivery of the lyrics throughout, and the line “I’ve got a cartoon heart & a SodaStream, baby look at us we’re a young love’s dream” has has never made me want to enjoy sparkling water & kiss boys more. Line up, line up, I’m going to Amazon Prime one first thing in the morning.
Bring Him Fire for me is a cross between I Saw The Light (from the Little Bull - EP [and one of my all time favourite Nerina songs fact fans]) & Spirit Walks (from 2015′s The Sound And The Fury) albeit with additional, though not superfluous strings throughout, which let’s be honest is a combination for excellence. The more I think about it, the more I think how perfect Come Into My Room would be playing over a soft-focus montage of characters having sex in a Love Actually sequel, with a cut away just as Nerina coo’s “cummmmm” at *ahem* climax of the song. The title track remains as stunningly beautiful as the first 150 times I played it - “And the greatest trick of life, is thinking that we’ll never die, darling don’t ask me why, it only makes me cry” still gives me a lump in my throat if I think about it too much.
I could say a lot more (and if we’re honest, you’ve probably not even got this far, so would it really matter if I kept shooting off on tangents?) but that saxophone outro is the highlight on Better, Fleur East who? Take me to a café in Paris, and I’m almost convinced that The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter needs be played on repeat for the rest of eternity there, go on, any café, I don’t mind, it’d be nice to have a holiday wouldn’t it? I’m not entirely sure if there’s another song that sums up the fatigue of waiting for someone to come along who may not even exist as well as this does, and as an aside, for weeks I’ve been paraphrasing “curse the languid afternoon” when I’m really bored in the office at work & someone thought I was verbose & intelligent, so thanks for that Nerina - I really can always count on you.
All Gold is a latter album highlight, it starts out a simple piano affair, before a phenomenal string arrangement accompanies what may be some of Nerina’s best vocals of her career. That’s a grand claim, I know, but they really are that good. The production on Stay Lucky is remarkably good throughout, however particularly strong on All Gold. I’m a stickler for a middle-eight as well, and this is the strongest offering on the album - the flourish of strings at 2:39 before “I’ve just got this feeling….” and the introduction of brass as Nerina & Rod Thomas (AKA Bright Light Bright Light) repeat the title gives me chills, I may have even done a little tiny cry the first time I heard it, but let’s keep that between us, okay? Okay.
Come Back To Bed for me captures the vibe of the Christmas Tabernacle shows, though I don’t think it’s ever been played there - but there’s something woozy about it all - like on Christmas Day when you’ve drunk a little too much egg nog & eaten a few too many mince pies, but a sexier, less-festive version of that. Notable mention to “If you’re sorry for what you said then honey…” *guitar plays the melody of the title* too, that’s a moment.. Closing the album is Bird “I’m so weary of keeping up” feels very fitting with everything that’s happened in the last couple of years, what a weird bloody place the world is at the moment. That detuned MonoPoly action for the middle-eight is sublime, prior to a necessary key change and subsequent chorus exclaiming “I’m living my life like its golden, golden” as the music, or bird in this case, flies away into the distance. As a keen ornithologist (honestly, look in my parents’ shed at the amount of bird books I have) I’m really appreciative that metaphorical bookends of the album of the year (there, I said it) compliment each other with similar imagery.
It’s hard to capture or articulate an emotion but I think Stay Lucky is the closest to describing the feeling of what falling in love is like without realising it, with that classic Pallot-melancholy I relate so well to sitting underneath it all. The album is an incredible addition to a back catalogue that your faves could only wish for - Nerina herself claims she isn’t Kate Bush & this isn’t an album the world was waiting for (which is ridiculous to be frank), however it’s the album I was waiting for & I couldn’t be more thankful. For everything x

Star Trek meme: 1, 7, 23, and 37... Janeway and Jadzia!
1. Top 3 favorite female characters?
B’Elanna TorresSeven of NineEzri Dax
7. Who would make up your crew dream team?
Captain Ezri DaxExecutive Officer Harry KimChief Medical Officer KesChief Engineer Robin LeflerChief Security Officer Sito JaxaPilot Miral ParisOperations NogCommunications Naomi Wildman
23. Favorite tropes?
I love all the terrible Starfleet brass. I love every alternate universe. I love when they go back in time to “now”.
37. Janeway and Jadzia get into a fight, who wins?
If it was an arranged fight, they’d both say it was all for fun and casual but actually be in it to win it. Jadzia would have the advantage but Janeway would refuse to concede and break rules and faces as necessary to declare victory.
If it was a casual debate Jadzia would again have the advantage but Janeway would again refuse to concede. A more formal debate, Jadzia would win the audience but Janeway would win the day.
If it was a ship or phaser battle Janeway would have the advantage and win. Jadzia would enjoy coming up with clever ways to try and trick her, which Janeway would appreciate, and totally buy her a drink after, but Janeway would win.
A knock down drag out brawl would be Jadzia’s best chance to come out on top. She has more knowledge and experience being physical and she actually likes brawling. Janeway is willing to throw a punch but it’s not her preference or her strength.

i can't find a paragraph short enough for an ask that's good but Literally any part of the Cursed Siskuark Fic
ALRIGHT thank ya :-D…. (this is for the writing meme – by message like autisticandroids did probably since the ask box has a short limit)
my commentary in bold:
As they shake hands, Quark’s smirk widens into a leer. "So is there anything I can do for you? Hand job, blow job, whatever. If we have a debt, I’d rather settle it now.“ [This is Quark trying to regain his dignity. Not that he wouldn’t take a free handjob, but if he can reciprocate and make Sisko feel good, he sees it as less likely Sisko will screw him over somehow later.]
Sisko’s eyes widen in alarm. He’s still somewhat aroused (nothing he can’t handle on his own, later), [listen I wanted to give Sisko an orgasm but it really squicked me out in this context. it was important that he was enjoying himself! I wanted this to be a ~connection~ not clinical duty, but still it’s…. weird] but that Quark is so quick to expect Sisko to hold this over him as a debt if he doesn’t offer reciprocation is worrisome, to say the least. "Quark, you don’t owe me a damn thing, other than not to botch the next time you cater an event like this.” [i struggled a bit on balancing the blame for the catastrophe… like Quark should have taken care of this, but lots of deep seated shame over not being able to find a suitable consistent partner makes it tough. shoot… I had thought out headcanons on when/how the Mating Fever occurs – I think it was a think for Ferengi when they found their match, so Quark found that with Odo but Odo is deeply denying it, which means Quark is left high and dry.]
Quark’s bottom lip quivers. "Your loss.“
He abruptly buries his face into Sisko’s torso, his arms embracing him in a tight hug. Sisko is taken aback at first, but finds himself hugging Quark back, rubbing his shoulders. [remember that time in Prophet Motive when Quark suddenly hugged Zek? Quark doesn’t have physical personal boundaries, like all Ferengi, anyway he’s a hugger I’ve decided.]
“I thought you would have one of those hu-mon hard stomachs,” Quark’s muffled voice says. [ever heard of a muscular Ferengi? nog is the exception I guess. chubbiness is seen as a sign of wealth and prosperity. abs are a weird hewmon preoccupation]
“Abs? Oh they’re under there somewhere. But you can’t grow up in a restaurant without a healthy appreciation for good cooking.” [listen…… Sisko is the hottest dude in Star Trek for me. I want to bury my face in his stomach. *fans self*] [sorry]
“I don’t mind.” Quark lets out a long deep sigh and nuzzles into Sisko’s chest.
Starfleet Academy’s instruction, and even Curzon’s particular brand of diplomacy, hadn’t prepared Sisko fully to understand such… peculiar … alien people as the Ferengi, but interacting with Quark has certainly tested his boundaries of cultural relativity. Strangely, he finds he’s okay with that, even protective of this particular Ferengi, with his obnoxious idiosyncrasies and uncomfortable vulnerability to exploitation. [if I have such Soft Feelings for this weird egg trashfire of a person, then so is my main dude Sisko okay]
Sisko hesitates, then kisses Quark’s forehead. [if Quark had hair, I think a better gesture would have been him stroking his hair… anyway I like the sweetness of this, after the handjob lol. Sisko’s kinda impulsive, and generous with people emotionally, so this feels in character to me.]
He couldn’t have predicted hugging this small, strange man in any capacity back when they first met. He also certainly doesn’t want a reoccurrence of the earlier somewhat traumatic experience, or perhaps even future non-emergency sexual contact. (Maybe he’ll even try talking Quark up to Odo sometime, remind Odo that Kira isn’t currently single, and he should respect that.) [i guess I was thinking that Odo was cutting off his fuckbuddy thing with Quark, because he doesn’t see his relationship with Quark as suitably ~romantic~, so now he’s pursuing Kira, who is still seeing Shakaar or Bareil or someone at this point.] However, he has to admit that this moment, right here, is nice. Maybe Quark was right. He’s been lonely, and it’s been too long since he’s had the warmth of someone in his arms like this. [LISTEN the TOUGHEST part of this fic was creating a situation where Sisko would be sorta in to Quark, enough for some sexy times, and good lord that took a lot of doing. I’m hoping by this point, I’ve built up enough affection and connection between them, that Sisko’s emotion right here comes off as genuine, but I’m still afraid it’s the weakest part. If this occurs not long after the episode The Jem’Hadar, then Ben has been single for a long time! He’s a lovin dude who needs some lovin, so hey maybe he didn’t realize how much he missed it?? and…. quark…. idk GOOD LORD]

DS9 character as those friends on Facebook you haven't gotten around to deleting
Sisko: shares very specific Baseball memes (fills your newsfeed during the Major league season), low quality photos of what he's cooked for dinner, photos of Jake and posts about how proud he is of him. Typical Facebook dad.
Kira: profile consists of links to change.org petitions and live posts from political rallies. Admins four different pro-Bajor action Facebook groups. Blocked Dukat many moons ago.
Jadzia: cross posts from her Instagram (20k followers). She can stay friended.
Julian: Barely posts, uses it mainly to scroll through ex girlfriends profiles. Linked his account to Detective Stories, doesn't realise it posts on his behalf every time he plays. Posts what he thinks is a witty insight but deletes it after twenty minutes and prays no one saw it.
O'Brien: Set up an account because Julian wanted to tag him in memes instead of sending them to him. Never posts. Timeline is only family photos Keiko posts and tags him in.
Quark: Constantly promoting the bar. Every time he shares a meme he loses another female friend. Adds random hot women that he finds in comment sections.
Odo: No personal account, admins the station security page because no one else wants to and "public relations are import." Hates every time he has to make a post. Sometimes asks Kira to do it for him.
Garak: Doesn't have an account because "ghost protocol". Hacks Julian at least twice a month.
Worf: Set up an account because Jadzia wanted to be able to tag him in her photos. 'Forgot' his password.
Jake: Mainly photos that his Dad tagged him in. Shares poetry and short stories his friends post. Occasional 1am drunk post and photo with Nog about how much he loves and appreciates him. Always deleted by 10 the next morning.
Ezri: Shares psych articles, captions them "an important read." Only other posts are profile pic/banner updates. Prefers Tumblr.
Nog: Member of four different obscure meme groups. Purged his account before applying for Starfleet.
Dukat: poorly-worded, logically unintelligible, barely literate anti-Bajoran/pro-Cardassian posts. Banner photo is him holding a weapon that is probably illegal where he lives. Fights people in the comment section.
Demar: Facebook account mainly consists of shares of Dukat's posts and memes of loyal soldiers of Cardasdia. Dactivated his account after Ziyal's death and prays no one will find it. Uses pseudonym on tumblr to post updates on the rebellion, and reblog rumors and tales of his heroic deeds.
