ITS ORCHID WEEK BABY, LETS CELEBRATE SPRING!

I did these a while back, it's time to revisit them! ORCHID WEEK STARTS ALL ORCHIDS NO STOPPING.

The first three are the ones I'm not very proud of - they are:

Tall Greenhood Pterostylis melagramma

Nodding Greenhood, Pterostylis nutans

Maroonhood orchid, Pterostylis pedunculata

Orchids are associated with huge flowers and exotic colours - but in Australia, we like them to be tiny weird little guys. We like 'em to look like bugs, spiders, ducks, and teeny hairy explosions.

Nodding Greenhood

Another Greenhood Orchid, this one was found by another photographer I chat to and we swapped some locations. I photographed it last week. The insect in the shot below gives some sense of scale, these orchids aren’t very big and can be hard to spot! We had a walk at the Nook this morning - hundreds of Blue Caladenias, but the phone camera didn't focus on the ones I tried to get pics of.😒 It cooperated for the greenhoods amd helmet orchid though- swipe for Noddy's nodding in the wind! Nodding Greenhood

(5 images, click to enlarge) – I was lucky to find a small group of Pterostylis williamsonii bobbing in the wind along the side of a rarely used track, not far from home. We are very fortunate to have wildflowers nearby - we found 7 species of terrestrial orchids this morning without much effort. They are rather small this year as we have had little rain, but still fairly plentiful. Waxlip, Blue caladenia, Nodding and dwarf greenhoods, Greencomb spider orchid and Leopard orchid.
