Danna?
Nobell Week 2020 Fic
Nobell, 278 words. I actually really like writing them, so I will write some more soon! Tell me if you want off or on the tag list! Super sappy, but i think it’s super cute too :)
“What?!” Nova shrieked.
“Doyoumaybewannagooutforacoffeedate?” she asked again, quieter and faster this time.
Nova just stared at the laptop. Did- did she just say that? She shook her head out and quietly prayed that this was real. Is this real? Ohmygod, please let this be real.
Did Danna Margherita Bell just ask her out?
“Lil’ sis can’t come to the phone right now, but she says yes,” said a voice from behind the sofa Nova was on. Startled, she whipped her head around towards her brother.
“Wait... really?” Danna ventured, “Nova”
She turned back but only stared dumbly. She couldn’t speak.
Danna Bell.
It took all her strength to not cry.
“It’s a yes Bee, she’s just in awe,” Adrian replied.
Danna Bell, just asked her out.
She asked.
With her own will?
She asked Nova?
Nova?
Stained sweatpants, glasses wearing, gross unwashed hair Nova?
Danna?
The model turned activist/social worker?
Danna, the girl who constantly stood up for Nova when she got bullied at school. Danna, who always knew when she just wanted a hug, no words. Danna, who always jumped to help people, to take the bullet. Danna, the girl who held her hand on the playground after the wretched day, and for many days after that.
Danna Bell.
Nova finally came to her senses, and actually looked at Danna. Even with a slight crinkle in-between her eyebrows and a light frown to her face she was still that gorgeous girl she fell in love with in high school. Smiling, Nova shook her head, holding the tears back.
“Yes,” she mouthed.
Danna smiled.
Nova couldn’t breathe, seeing that.
Oh well, I guess she’ll never breathe again.

Closing the Distance
a nobell fic for the renaissance, it pure fluff and idk. pinning but they’re already together? I haven’t written renegades fic for forever, but I had to contribute.
Work trips like this were the worst, when Nova was stuck in another city just barely surviving the never ending spiels of thick headed politicians. She had to suffer though five whole days without her girlfriend. She had hoped the people would catch on quickly to the idea of creating a government separate from the renegades. That she would be able to get in and out of Ablerville in one day. Perhaps she had been a bit too optimistic. This time she bas stuck in Alberville dealing with the most infuriating man on the planet, without Danna.
Nova had been reluctant to call that day a success. She had barely managed to get Councilor Timper to read the bill. But  it was an improvement from yesterday, when he hadn’t even bothered to show up to the meeting so maybe Nova could consider it a win.
Nova walked back to her hotel room. The streets and cars were loud and crowded but none of the noises seemed to be quite as overwhelming as the civilians shouting at nova. People asking for photos, criticizing her choices, compliments, questions, insults, some people just called out her name. It was overwhelming, yes, but not new.
It was times like these when Nova wished she was Nightmare again. When she traveled at night, always bended in and unseen. She had a mask to cover her face, and a secret identity to cover her tracks. People had been too terrified to talk to her, much less haggle her like a flock of insane geese.
Nova’s hotel was on the outskirts of the city. The surrounding area was practically suburban and the hotel was small and cheap. That wasn’t why she chose that particular hotel though. It was the privacy, it was because no one ever knew she was there. There were no paparazzi, no idiot college kids there to force their opinions on her. People were no stupidly invasive most of the time, feeling entitled to opinions on how Nova acted in her day to day life. Like that one woman who a=had written an over dramatic twitter thread because she had seen Nova curse out her bagle when she burned it in the hotel food court. She hated being in the public eye. She had no idea how Adrian had done it for all those years.
When Nova finally reacher her room on the second floor of the hotel, she flounced onto the bed and removed her blazer. She rummaged around for more comfortable clothes to change into and found the hoodie that Danna had given her two years ago to replace her old ratty one. It was black and soft and had two little butterfly patches on the right arm, which Nova’s girlfriend had attached to the hoodie herself. After she put on some yoga pants, Nova grabbed a seltzer from the hotel fridge and went to sit outside on the balcony. She put her feet up on the little coffee table and was about to open up her phone to call Danna when she saw a little monarch butterfly flit past her nose. Nova swiped frantically to the photos app and took a moment to steady her hand. The butterfly landed lightly on a flower. Nova’s heart ached from how much she missed Danna. Nova had only been gone for a few days, but sometimes the distance hurt more than the time. It didn’t matter that they’d be seeing each other again in just a few days. Nova missed her.
Her feather light kisses each night before they went to sleep.
Danna’s hand in hers when the nightmares would return.
Small touches, brushes of skin.
Happy smiles.
Danna.
Nova snapped the picture before the butterfly could fly away. She smiled as she sent the picture to Danna, with the caption, thinking of you. Then moment later Danna sent a photo in response. It was a selfie of Danna. Her face was partially cut off by the frame, but she was making a silly face. Never the less she was beautiful. Her smile was so bright it seemed to glow like the sun, filling Nova with warmth. She looked like she was in a train, and above her head was a little digital sign that said, approaching Alberville. Thinking of you too. The caption said. See you soon?
Nova let out a short laugh, a fond smile over coming her face. Maybe this trip wouldn’t be so bad after all.
I’ve seen people say they wanted to be tagged in Nobell stuff so here you go! @nova-artino @narcissacronin @nova-mclain

Practice Kisses
Here it is! My contribution to Nobell week 2020! Now, I’ll be the first to say that they are not my favorite ship, but I do like them together! I thought I wasn’t going to participate, but then this idea popped into my head so I had to write it.
Enjoy this fic, a childhood friends to lovers AU!
Word count: 3170
~~~~
They met on the first day of kindergarten, when Nova stepped onto the school bus with her older brother Adrian, watching as her dads waved goodbye from the sidewalk, holding little Max and Evie in their arms.
“Kindergarteners sit up front.” The bus driver, a gruff older woman said. She pointed to a seat, and Nova plopped herself down next to the prettiest girl she had ever seen.
The girl had dark brown skin and hair, the same color as Nova’s eyes. When they locked gazes, she blurted out the first thing that came to her head.
“Look! You match my eyes!” She touched the girl’s arm, eliciting a giggle from the other kindergartener.
“Or maybe your eyes match me instead.” She suggested. “My name’s Danna. When’s your birthday?”
And just like that, they were friends.
At the end of the day, Nova waved goodbye to Danna and hopped off the bus with Adrian, running up to her dads.
“Dad! Pops! I made a new friend!”
“That’s great, sweetheart.” Simon grinned. Baby Evie, in his arms, reached down to try and grab at Nova’s dark hair. Instead, the five-year-old turned around to wave goodbye as the bus drove down the street.
“Her name is Danna and we’re best friends forever!” Nova proclaimed, rushing inside the house.
That night they ate ice cream in front of the TV as a family, and Nova curled against Hugh’s side with Max laying on top of her, all of the Everhart family asleep in one massive cuddle pile.
~~~~
“Do you want to come over for a sleepover this weekend?” Danna asked, Nova peering out the window of the bus.
“Yeah! I’ll ask my dads when I get home.” They were headed off to second grade, and still the girls chose to sit together on the bus. Ever since their first meeting two years ago, they were partners in crime, never far from each other.
This year they were in the same class, and they walked to it together. If they went to the library, Nova would grab Danna’s hand and they’d go together. In the cafeteria they split their desserts, and one time Nova even let Danna peek at her paper during a spelling test. Best friends, that’s what they were.
Friday couldn’t come fast enough for Nova. She’d never had a sleepover before, not like Adrian, who had friends spilling out his ears. Nova was more shy and reserved. She’d never had a friend like Danna before.
“Alright, are you going to be on your best behavior for Mr. Bell?” Simon asked, crouching beside his daughter on Danna’s doorstep. They’d walked one street over, Nova practically skipping the whole way. Now she stood, stoic and serious, nodding at her father.
“I promise, Pops.”
“Okay. I’ll come get you tomorrow morning.” He kissed her head, rang the doorbell, then started home.
“Nova!” Danna answered the front door with a cheer. She pulled her into a squealing hug, then dragged her friend inside. “My dad just ordered pizza, and later we can watch a movie and eat popcorn!”
The girls clambered up the stairs and into Danna’s room. There was already an air mattress laid out for Nova to sleep on, and she dumped the contents of her bag onto it.
Pizza came, and Nova made sure to use her napkin and not speak with her mouth full, using the manners her Pops had talked to her about. Afterwards they got into their pajamas and watched a movie, Danna and Nova squished together on the couch with their bowl of popcorn, screaming dramatically when something scary happened.
“Alright, girls, time for bed.” Mr. Bell ushered them away, and the two of them were sent upstairs to Danna’s room, giggling the whole way.
“I’m not tired.” Nova proclaimed.
“Me neither.” Her friend agreed. “Let’s try and stay up all night!”
Together, they gathered up all of Danna’s pillows and blankets, draping them over her lamp and her bed and the chair at her desk, creating the perfect blanket fort.
Danna turned off the lights, the only lights left being that of her small lamp and her flashlight.
“What are we gonna do to stay up all night?” Nova asked. Danna shrugged in response.
“Maybe I can paint your nails?”
Nova’s small brow furrowed. She’d never had her nails painted before. Adrian had offered once, when Pops painted his nails a shiny purple. Nova had stuck her tongue out at him and run off.
“I guess. But only if you paint them blue. I don’t want a girly color.”
“Okay.” Danna was gone for a minute, leaving Nova with the flashlight. She returned a minute later, holding two different bottles of nail polish.
“One for you and one for me.”
Nova sat very still, unsure of what to do as her friend took her hand and slathered the nail paint liberally. Danna’s brown eyes were serious, focused, leaving no room for argument. When she made a mistake she dabbed it with a napkin she’d brought, until all ten of Nova’s fingernails were painted a perfect cerulean blue.
It only took a few minutes for the paint to dry, and then Danna passed a bottle of pink polish over to Nova.
“Your turn, Nova.”
Nova didn’t have the slightest clue how to paint nails. But Danna had done it on her easily enough, so how hard could it be?
Hard. Very hard.
The seven-year-old stuck her tongue out as she focused, gripping Danna’s hand tightly. The napkin didn’t help, and at the end Danna’s nails were both streaky and clumpy at the same time. They looked awful.
“I’ve never painted anyone’s nails before.” Nova said defensively, before Danna could speak.
“It’s okay, Nova. You’ll get better if you practice.”
To change the topic, Nova asked her, “What do you want to talk about?”
“Do you have a crush on someone?” Danna chirped.
“A what?”
“My dad says that one day I’m going to have a crush on a boy. I just think they’re all icky. Do you like a boy?”
Nova shook her head. “My dads never told me about that.”
Danna pursed her little lips together. “My dad says that he thinks I have a crush on Oscar, because I always talk about him.”
“Oscar? Ew!” Nova squealed. “He picks his nose!”
“I know!” Danna complained. “I do not have a crush on Oscar, but Dad wont believe me. He says that one day I’m going to want to kiss boys.”
“Do you think that one day both of us will kiss boys?” Nova asked. She cocked her head in confusion. “I’ve never kissed a boy.”
Danna shrugged. “I don’t even know how to kiss a boy.”
When she looked at Nova again, there was something unreadable in her eyes. “I don’t think I want to kiss boys, Nova.”
Nova swallowed suddenly, realizing that her friend was a lot closer to her than before. “Maybe it’s like painting nails, Danna. You’ll get better if you practice.”
“Maybe we can both practice together.” Danna whispered.
Nova didn’t know what she was doing. But she’d seen her dads kiss plenty of times, so how was it different?
Slowly, sitting on her knees, she leaned towards her best friend. Danna’s brown eyes were wide, but she didn’t move out of the way as Nova gently pressed her lips to hers.
The kiss lasted only a second, then Nova pulled away. “There.” she said. “Now you have to kiss me, so you can practice, too.”
Danna nodded. “Okay.” She bent her head and kissed Nova quick, then sat back again, just watching her.
Neither girl spoke for a long moment, until Nova gave a massive yawn. “Maybe we can’t stay up all night. Let’s go to bed.”
Underneath their blanket fort, the girls curled together and fell asleep.
~~~~
Nova, eleven years old, sat in the tops branches of an old oak tree that overlooked the creek behind her house. Everything about it was familiar, including the feel of Danna’s head in her lap, both of them watching the sky through the canopy of leaves.
“Can I ask you something?” Danna said softly, picking up Nova’s hand and admiring the silver polish on her nails.
“Yeah. What’s up?”
The girl took a deep breath before she spoke. “Would we still be friends even if I moved away?”
Nova sat up, pulling Danna with her. “Of course we would! Why would you ask that?”
Danna shifted away, swinging her legs over the side of the thick tree branch. “It’s just… my dad got a new job, away from Gatlon. And he wants to move us this summer.”
“But you can’t move!” Nova protested. “We’re supposed to go to junior high together in the fall!”
“I’m going to go to junior high in another city.” Danna murmured. Nova noticed the tears in Danna’s warm brown eyes.
“You’ll call me, right? Every day after school?” Nova felt tears springing into her own eyes, as well.
“Promise.” Danna insisted. “I’ll call all the time and I’ll write you one letter every week!”
That summer, Danna Bell moved from the neighborhood she’d lived in for over a decade. And Nova, her best friend, was there for every second, desperate to spend as much time with her as possible.
“Danna! Get in the car, please!” Mr. Bell called after his daughter. The moving van was loaded, waiting for a final inspection before it left. Danna had her backpack by her feet, standing in the doorway of her empty house.
“I’m going to miss you so much.” Nova gave her friend a watery smile.
“Me too.” Danna whispered.
Taking a deep breath, Nova leaned towards her, just a bit. “A practice kiss before you go? Maybe there will finally be boys in your new school that you want to kiss.”
Danna giggled, wiping at the escaped tears. “We haven’t done a practice kiss since we were little.”
Nova shrugged. “For old time’s sake.”
Danna peeked over her shoulder, seeing her father was still talking with the moving crew. “Okay. One last time.”
Unlike the kisses they’d shared when they were younger, Nova let this one linger a little bit. She pulled back, only a bit, still feeling Danna’s breath on her lips as her eyes fluttered open.
“Danna! Say goodbye to your friend and get in the car, please!” Mr. Bell still wasn’t looking at them, and Nova felt her cheeks heat.
“Bye, Danna. Remember, you have to write and call me all the time.”
“I promise.” Her best friend said, slipping into the backseat.
That night, Nova cried until she had no tears left. Danna was her best friend, and now she was gone.
Every day, she checked the mail for a letter. And every day she checked the answering machine for messages.
There was nothing.
Nothing, even when school started. No letter. No call.
And eventually, Nova stopped looking.
~~~~
“And then he said-” Nova cackled hysterically, nearly knocking her drink over as her little sister recounted her day at school.
She was in her early twenties now, finishing up college to get a degree in engineering. She’d been away from her family for nearly a whole semester, and she missed them.
Now, she sat in a restaurant with her dads and her siblings, glad to be eating nice food instead of microwave ramen noodles for once. It was good to be home.
“Hello, I’m your waitress for tonight. Are you guys ready to order or do you need a few minutes?”
Nova held up her menu, remembering her order, before looking up to the waitress.
And instantly froze.
She’d grown, gotten so tall over the years. Her dreadlocks were dyed yellow. But still, Nova would recognize her face anywhere.
Danna Bell was her waitress.
The girl in front of her froze as well, face paling as though she’d seen a ghost. The moment ended quickly, and she put her head down as she took the family’s orders. Nobody noticed.
Still, Nova couldn’t focus. That was Danna. Her best friend all of elementary school. She was here.
“Nova, you seen distracted.” Simon said gently. “Is something wrong?”
“No.” She lied. “I just have a lot on my mind. I’m fine.” However, she finished her meal in relative silence.
The waitress, Danna, came to collect their check, and watching her, Nova felt a kind of desperation she’d never felt before. She had to talk to her.
She wrote her number discreetly on her napkin, with a little note. Meet me outside after we leave, if you can. Please, need to talk to you.
“You guys head home, I’ll catch up!” Nova called as her dads loaded the rest of her siblings into the car. She’d come in her own car, thank the stars, and she brushed off the curious questions.
It took ten minutes after they drove off for a small tap on her shoulder to come. Nova didn’t flinch, just turned around.
Danna was holding the napkin, with the note. And staring at her.
“Hi, Nova.” She murmured. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it.”
She didn’t know what to say. Whether to laugh or cry or hug her or scream.
“Yeah.” Nova whispered. “It’s been a while.”
Danna shifted in front of her, more nervous than Nova had ever seen her. “Nova, I… I’m sorry. I know I have a lot of explaining to do. But my shift isn’t over yet. I need to get back inside.”
“It’s fine.” Nova assured her. “Just text me when you can. If… you want to.”
“I will.” Danna insisted. “I promise.”
~~~~
It had been three days since Nova had seen Danna in the restaurant. She should have known she wouldn’t follow up. She hadn’t bothered to years ago, so what was different?
Still, she was disappointed.
It was midnight when her phone buzzed, a text from an unknown number.
Unkown: Hi Nova, it’s Danna. I’m sorry I didn’t text you earlier. It’s been super busy around here lately and I had to take extra shifts.
Nova: Okay
Danna: Can I call you?
Before Nova anwered, Danna was calling her. She hesitated, for just a moment. She hadn’t spoken to Danna in years. What if she’d changed?
But at the same time, Nova missed her far too much to care.
“Nova, I want to explain.” Those were Danna’s first words upon answering the call.
“I tried to call you, and send you letters, I really did. But my dad wouldn’t let me. He thought you were a bad influence. He said he didn’t want me hanging out with… people like your family.”
Oh. Mr. Bell had never given Nova the impression that he was homophobic, but then again… she was also only eleven years old when Danna left.
“I’m sorry.” Danna sighed. “After a while I just stopped trying.”
“Danna, it’s alright.” Nova assured her. “It’s fine. It’s not your fault.”
“I missed you.” Her friend said earnestly. “I know it’s been years, but I still miss you. I never forgot you, Nova.”
“And I never forgot you, either.” Nova told her.
“Would you maybe like to meet up for coffee sometime?” Danna asked. “I know you’re home from college right now, you freaking genius.”
“I’m not a genius!” Nova protested.
“Yeah right.” Danna snorted. “Your grade was never below a 99 in math and science.”
“Okay, fine. Does tomorrow work for you?”
~~~~
Nova had never been more nervous in her life. What was it going to be like, talking to a friend she hadn’t seen in so long? They had different lives now.
“Hey.” Nova glanced up from her cup of coffee to see Danna standing before her. Her hair was half up-half down, and she was dressed in a cute, simple dress with monarch butterflies embroidered on it. Suddenly Nova felt underdressed in her leggings and crop top.
“Hey. Sorry I didn’t get anything for you. I don’t know how you like your coffee.”
Danna shrugged. “Just regular, black coffee for me.”
“Me too.” Nova chuckled.
Danna sat down, smiling broadly. “I missed you, Nova.”
The way she was looking at her made Nova’s cheeks heat, and she had to clear her throat before she spoke again. “Yeah, me too.”
After they both had drinks, the conversation flowed easily, just like old times. Nova laughed so hard her drink nearly came up her nose, sending Danna into a laughing fit as well. Her laugh was bright and rich, just like Nova remembered.
Eventually they both got up and went out of the cafe, walking the streets of downtown Gatlon arm-in-arm.
“So, how’d you end up back here?” Nova asked, stopping to admire a fountain.
Danna sighed. “My father kicked me out after I came out to him as a lesbian. I came back here, got the first minimum wage job I could find, and I’ve been here ever since.”
Nova’s heart clenched. “I’m so sorry. I-I’m bisexual, if that makes you feel better… for some reason.” She cursed herself silently. What the hell was she saying?
Danna just laughed. “Well, now we know why I didn’t want to kiss boys in elementary school.”
Those memories came flooding back, and Nova cringed. “Remember when we used to practice kissing with each other? Sweet rot, we were so dumb.”
Another shrug from Danna. “Well, we were kids. Kids do those type of things.”
Her tone of voice caught Nova off guard. She glanced over at her friend, surprised to find her eyes unreadable.
Stars, she’s so pretty. She couldn’t help the first thought that came to her mind. Danna, with her smooth, velvet like skin and her gorgeous brown eyes.
When their eyes met, Nova stopped breathing. The blood rushed to her face as both her head and her heart pounded frantically, every part of her absolutely singing with joy when Danna’s hands intertwined with her own.
“Nova, what would you say if I told you wanted to kiss you very, very much?” The world spun around them, and Danna was the center.
“I would tell you to go for it.” Nova’s head felt fuzzy, the words slipping past gummy lips.
Danna didn’t need to be told twice. Her silky hands cupped Nova’s face until that was all she could see, and when her lips pressed against her own, Nova thought she might burst with the feeling.
Her hands pulled Danna closer, every part of her molten from the contact. Danna’s hands moved from her cheeks to twist in her shirt, keeping them close while their lips moved together.
Somehow it lasted an hour and only a second, both at the same time. When Nova pulled away, her breathing was ragged, her hands holding onto Danna for dear life.
Their foreheads were still touching, Danna’s minty scent all Nova could smell. She couldn’t step away.
“I’m never going to leave you, Nova.” Danna whispered, a gentle promise.
“Best friends?” Nova asked, a joking grin on her face.
“Even better.” Danna giggled. “Girlfriends.”

My first addition to #nobellweek! And also my first fan fiction ever so... give me some slack.
This is set in the Gallagher Girls Universe, which if you haven't read it it's basically just spy school. Enjoy, reblog, and lmk what you think!
Trouble
Word count: 2,042
Danna had her nose in a textbook on “The French & Arsen” when a knock came at the door. She did not even look up. It was going to be that new girl who was only here because of the family name and Danna did not care for outsiders. Not only did she not like them, she didn’t trust them and trust was the name of the game around here. She still didn’t trust the group of boys that had infiltrated their school… well most of them at least.
Narcissa put the latest disguise she had been perfecting down and looked wareily at the door, but Danna kept her book up. After a moment of awkward silence Ruby came running in from the bathroom with a towel on her head and her shirt on inside out and backwards.
“She’s Here! Guys why didn’t you get the door!” Ruby’s eyes flashed with excitement as she threw open the door.
“Hi No… oh,” Ruby’s cheeks flushed as she tossed the towel on her head off to the side, “Hi Adrian, hi Oscar,” the second ‘hi’ was barely a squeak and Danna could hear Narcissa snickering on the other side of the room.
“Hi Ruby, you look very, um, clean!” Oscar practically shouted in his haste to come up with something to say. For being in the top five percent of an elite spy school, those two were not very good at being subtle.
Finally Danna put her book down to look at the two boys at the door. Oscar was just as red as Ruby and Adrian was flashing that signature smile of his.
“We came to invite you down for dinner with us! Anyone interested?” Adrian asked, sweeping his gaze around the room.
“I’d love to but,” Narcissa started before Danna cut her off quickly.
“Yes! Yes we would love to!”
Narcissa and Ruby both looked back at Danna with wide eyes but she silenced them both with a glare and in a matter of minutes they were out the door.
Meals at Gallagher Academy were always full of fruits, vegetables, and main courses from around the world. Plus there was a sign above the door that stated what language the table conversation was to be held in. Sundays, however, were a free for all. Language was in english, and the food generally consisted of chicken fingers pizza, and other american favorites. Just hearing Oscar whine and complain all week until sunday dinner was enough to drive any person up the wall, trained spy or not.
Just as they were about to go through the threshold of the cafeteria a loud, intimidating and beautifully feminen voice echoed in the hall around them, “I hope you are having a good time abandoning your new colleague Ms. Bell, Ms. Cronin, and Ms. Tucker.”
Danna flinched and slowly turned around to face Headmaster Tamaya Rae. Her expression was cold as ice as she took the time to make eye contact with all five of them individually before cutting her eyes over to the girl behind her.
“This is your new roommate Nova. I’m sure you did your research, so I will leave you to it. Please take her on a tour of the grounds before curfew,” Headmaster Rae said smoothly before turning back to Nova and whispering something inaudible to the rest of them. She nodded and watched as the headmaster walked away. Danna looker with wary eyes as the girl, Nova, finally fully turned to face them. To Danna’s surprise her first thought was not, ‘ew’ or ‘ugh I hate her’, but rather just ‘wow’. Her heart was beating faster than normal as she looked over Nova. She had tan skin and cropped black hair with bangs hanging across her forehead and these blue eyes that just sparkled in the light. She looked like she had been training in martial arts her entire life with a thin waist and toned legs. She was effortlessly beautiful and Danna was… blushing.
Realizing that she was staring, Danna peeled her eyes away and focused them instead on the line of marble busts on the side of the hall.
Ruby was the first to break the silence running up to hug the short girl, "Nova! It's so nice to finally meet you!"
Danna could see Nova tense up when Ruby threw her arms around her and how her face almost imperceptibly flashed with killer instinct. It was like Nova had never experienced affection before. Finally Ruby peeled herself off of the poor girl and started introducing everyone else who gave a little wave in response, aside from Oscar who bowed.
"Well, I guess an introduction for me isn't really necessary at this point is it?" Nova said, giving a side grin that made Danna's heart do a flip inside her chest. The sensation, however, just made her more upset.
With a huff Danna turned and walked into the cafeteria leaving everyone else to follow. She could hear Adrian, Oscar, and Ruby asking Nova questions and making light conversation behind her and for some reason it made her blood boil. They didn't even know this outsider and all of a sudden she was the most interesting thing since Betty White?
A tap on her shoulder pulled Danna out of her anger filled trance and she whipped her head to the side finding Narcissa walking beside her.
"Are you okay?" She whispered, keeping pace with Danna's wide steps.
"I'm fine," Danna spat back through gritted teeth.
"I really don't think that you are, maybe Nova isn't all bad, you should at least give her a chance."
Danna stopped and turned to face Narcissa. Leaning down close to her ear she growled, "chances are earned, not given," before stalking off towards the salad bar.
There were so many emotions swirling around in Danna's head as she threw tomatoes and carrots onto the bed of lettuce she had hastily thrown into a bowl. How could one interaction with a person cause so much internal dissonance? The fighting emotions only served to stoke the fire in Danna as she slammed the ladle back into the Italian dressing.
She turned to find everyone else already sitting down with plates full of chicken tenders or pizza. Well, Oscar had three plates filled with literally every food in the cafeteria except salad. Begrudgingly Danna sat down directly across from Nova and stared down into her salad, glancing up from time to time to keep tabs on what was happening.
"So, do you have any specialties?" Adrian asked Nova who had just put a spoonful of mashed potatoes in her mouth.
"Oh, sorry, bad timing," he said, blushing slightly and running his hand across the back of his head.
Nova smiled sheepishly at him and swallowed, "are we suppose to talk about that? Isn't that confidential?"
Ruby laughed, "not here! We all have to know each others strengths to work well as a team."
"And also know who to copy in class!" Oscar chimed in grinning. They all laughed, even Narcissa who had been staying generally neutral.
The light conversation with this outsider made Danna's stomach twist. She knew there was something up with Nova besides her ridiculously flawless skin. She knew it and she was going to find out what it was.
Danna looked up to see Adrian's hand on Nova's shoulder and the two of them laughing and smiling. The sight caused something inside her to jump. It felt almost like… jealously? No. It couldn't have been. Maybe she was just mistaking her overprotectiveness of Adrian as something else. Either way it didn't matter.
Dinner came to a close and the team took Nova on a tour of the grounds as requested. Oscar and Ruby doing most of the guiding, Adrian adding cute little tidbits and finding every excuse to touch her arm or shoulder, Narcissa happily following along behind throwing out the history of different paintings they passed, and Danna shuffling along at the back scowling and rolling her eyes. Every touch, every smile, every… everything made the knot in her stomach tighten till Danna felt like she was going to explode. Plus Nova kept glance back at her with this look that sent shivers down Danna's spine.
Finally they finished the tour and the boys went off to their side of the dorm while the four girls continued to their room.
As soon as they were inside, Danna stomped off and locked herself in the bathroom. She couldn't take one more second of those piercing blue eyes cutting over to her, or that silky black hair tickling the bottom of Nova's sharp jaw, or watching Adrian place a hand on her toned arms to turn Nova's attention to something else.
To get her mind off of it all, Danna turned the shower on to the coldest possible setting, tied up her golden deadlocked, and stepped inside. The freezing water on her bare skin made Danna gasp and instinctively wrap her arms around herself, but at least she felt something other than anger. Unfortunately the silence in her mind didn't last long.
Her thoughts were moving at a mile a minute replaying everything that had happened that night, from the moment she saw Nova to the second she had stepped into the bathroom. Danna searched for something, anything, that would give her a lead to what Nova was up to, but the girl just seemed so… average. Well as average as anyone in the Gallagher Academy was.
A sharp knock at the door cut into Danna's quickly spiraling train of thought and she yelled, "what! I'm taking a shower!"
A startlingly strong voice shot back, "I need to brush my teeth!"
"Can't you wait!?"
"No! I'm still on Italian time and I've been exhausted since I got here!"
Italian time? Danna thought and she prepared her next excuse.
"The door is locked and I'm not getting out of the shower for you!"
"The lock is not a problem, can I brush my teeth or do I have to go ask Adrian to use their sink!"
This made Danna's skin crawl. The thought of her going and batting her eyes at Adrian and slinking into their bathroom made her almost sick to her stomach. After a long pause Danna finally let out a sigh, "fine. But it better be quick."
In less that five seconds Danna heard the lock click and the door creak open. What the… that would have taken out top lock picker at least ten seconds, Danna thought as she heard the sink turn on. This was a spy school the locks were not armature. Maybe Nova wasn't just a legacy after all. The two stayed in silence until Nova turned off the water.
"I know you don't like me and I get that, but I hope that I can change your mind someday."
Without thinking, Danna stuck her head out of the curtain, catching Nova's blue eyes in the mirror. She was wearing black shorts and an oversized 'I ♥  Paris' shirt, but the way Nova was looking at her made Danna's words catch in her throat.
"I promise I'm not all bad, if you just give me a chance," Nova said softly as she turned to face Danna.
Finding her voice, Danna forced a scowl onto her face, "chances are earned."
"So, how do I earn one?" Nova asked, stepping closer.
Danna's mouth went dry as Nova advanced on her. The way that just a look from this girl melted Danna's resolve was dangerous. Still trying to find her words, Danna just stared at Nova who had taken another step closer and put her arm up on the wall next to the shower, leaning in close.
"Well," Nova whispered leaning in closer to Danna and brushing their cheeks in the process, "if you think of anything let me know."
Danna didn't know if she wanted to slam Nova against the wall and kiss her or dislocate her shoulder, but it didn't matter because she was frozen in place. Unable to move, or think, or speak.
Finally, Nova pulled away with a smirk and sauntered out of the bathroom as Danna slammed shut the curtain and sank to the floor, cooling her face in the cold water. In a matter of hours Nova had managed to win over Ruby, Oscar, and Narcissa while also seducing both Adrian and herself.
Whoever this girl was… she was trouble, and yet all Danna could think about was the subtle pink of Nova's lips.

Renegades ATLA AU for Nobell Week 2020
I know I’m probably not the only one who decided to do an ATLA AU, but I thought I had some interesting ideas. If I had any writing skills, I’d make it a fic, but I don’t so here’s all I got:
Nova is the Avatar. She’s from the fire nation. Her parents didn’t tell anyone she was the Avatar but Ace found out and he killed her parents and Evie so he could get his hands on Nova
Ace is the Firelord. The anarchists are all firebenders, except Leroy who is a nonbender. Phobia is Ace’s advisor. They all think Nova is just a normal firebender but Leroy and Winston suspect that she’s special.
Hugh is the King of the Earth Kingdom and a powerful bender. His husband, Simon, is a waterbender. They adopted Adrian, the air bender, when his mother, their close friend, died (like in the acc series). He is now the Earth Kingdom’s Prince.
Max is a waterbender and he can bloodbend and take ppl’s powers away (like in LoK)
Danna, Ruby and Oscar are the Earth Prince’s personal guard. Danna and Oscar are earthbenders and Ruby is a waterbender. Oscar can control Magma like Bolin.
Ace wants to take the Earth Kingdom down from the inside, so he sends Nova, disguised as a nonbender, to become another one of the prince’s personal guard and learn all their secrets.
Frostbitch (i refuse to call her anything else), is a daughter of a noble man and says something like, “a nonbender can’t defend the prince!”
Then she defeats Gargoyle like the badass that she is and is accepted into the guard.
Danna is suspicious of Nova because she’s Danna and she’s suspicious of everything.
Adrian, tired of being a overprotected prince, sneaks out under the guise of the Sentinel and saves random ppl in the Earth Kingdom.
Except he never had that much training (cuz he’s like the only airbender in the city) and he ends up hurting a lot of ppl
His dads declare the Sentinel to be a criminal and tell the Eath Kingdom citizens to bring him in
But this is about Nobell ;)
Danna follows Nova one day and finds out that a bunch of firebenders have been hiding in the Earth Kingdom (Ace and Phobia aren’t with them cuz they need to be in the Fire Nation)
Nova finds out that Danna was following her and puts her in a metal cage.
The rest of the team is worried about where Danna went and Adrian orders a search for her. They don’t find her and assume she was taken by the Fire Nation.
Nova visits Danna in her cage every day. At first, Danna refuses to talk to her, but eventually she lets down her walls and her and Nova talk.
Nova comes to the cage at the same time every day to give her food and talk to her.
One day, Danna was waiting for Nova to arrive at their usual time. But she doesn’t show up. Instead, Ingrid comes and tells Danna that Nova will not be giving her food anymore and instead Honey or Ingrid will be coming to give her food.
The days after that are much worse. Danna had no company and had to suffer cruel insults everytime Ingrid or Honey came to give her food. They would drop the food on the ground carelessly, half of it falling out of the bowl as it clanked loudly against the ground. Sometimes, they would shoot little fire balls at her in attempt to burn her. Danna was weak and often was not able to dodge the fire, making Honey and Ingrid laugh and laugh and laugh.
One day, instead of Honey or Ingrid, Leroy comes to give her food. He is gentle and nice. He tells her that Nova is worried about her. He talks a bit, about the four nations and the war. He tells her about how all the elements are connected and she is surprised that a nonbender could have such a deep understanding of the elements.
The next day, Honey comes to give her food and says something along the lines of, “You will never get out of here, little girl. You hold out hope that your team will save you or that your bending will get you out of here. But even the best earthbender in the world could bend metal.”
When Honey leaves, her words ring in Danna’s ears. She remembers the words Leroy said. She focuses on the metal cage and becomes the first person to ever bend metal.
She gets to the palace and tells everyone about Nova, but Nova has already left for the Fire Nation to tell her Uncle their secrets
Cue the final battle scene
It is finally revealed that Nova is the avatar and Adrian is the Sentinel
Nova begins to contemplate fighting for her uncle and Honey captures Danna.
Nova frees Danna and decides her uncle is a bad dude. Honey dies. (good riddance)
"Why did you save me?”
“I couldn’t let anything happen to you. You...”
“I what?”
“You matter too much to me!”
Big dramatic kiss (im sorry i cant write confessions)
They defeat Ace with the power of sapphicness and Nova is the only heir
Except, wait, what’s that? It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s Maggie, the long lost sister of Nova Artino.
Maggie was found abandoned and was raised in an earth kingdom orphanage. She’s a fire bender and is a friend of Max’s, which is why she knows Adrian and the rest of the guard and stuff.
Nova and Maggie go to the Fire Nation and Nova becomes the new Fire lord. Danna goes with her.
They all remain friends, of course, and see each other all the time. Nova is a kind and just leader and eventually, Danna becomes her queen.

Hungry For You
First fic for Nobell Renaissance!  I procrastinated and forgot to post it yesterday, but here it is.
this takes place in the hunger games universe.  Nova is a girl from District twelve and she is selectd in the reaping.  Danna is a career tribute from district two.
this is definetly not my best writing(i kinda hate it but...)
tw:death, blood, violence, suicide
word count:3408
Nova stood among countless other children, all of them looking grimly at the cheerful woman on the stage.  Effie Trinket.  She looked completely ridiculous, dressed in an enormous poofy, bright orange dress and a towering hat.  Her lips were painted an unnerving red.  Nova shuddered.  It looked almost like blood.  She was saying something in her shrill capitol accent, introducing the mayor, Nova was pretty sure.  He stepped up to the microphone and looked out onto the silent crowd.  He started to talk.
The mayor droned on, reciting the history of Panem.  Nova glanced around, bored out of her mind.  She looked over to see Adrian, her best friend looking over at her.  He lifted his hand and waved slightly.  Nova smiled, then stopped. She remembered where she was.  Two children were about to be sentenced to death.  One of them could even be her.
The mayor stepped away from the mike and Effie Trinket stepped up to take his place.  She reached her claw-like fingernails into the first glass bowl and grasped for a slip of paper.  Nova knew that at least twenty of those papers had Nova Artino written on them in delicate script.
“Happy hunger games, and may the odds be ever in your favor,”  Effie trilled.  She pulled out a slip of paper.
“Nova Artino.”  The words didn’t register in her ears.  She looked around to see everyone looking at her, sadness and relief in their eyes.  Why are they looking at me like that?  She wondered.  Adrian was looking at her with horror and she could see tears in his eyes.
“Nova Artino, could you please come up here?”  That's when it all hit her.  Like a gunshot in the chest.  She lifted her chin and marched forwards, her body numb.  She was going to the Hunger Games.  And she was going to die.
---
Danna watched the other reapings from a small couch in a train car. She grinned.  No one really looked like they would be a threat to her. She had been training for years, trying to gain a spot in the Hunger Games.  She glanced out the window, trying to see as much as possible.  The landscape looked so different from District Two.
Danna turned her back to the screen, and her lip curled.  District twelve.  Every year, the tributes died in the first few hours, if not minutes.  The crowd was silent watching the idiotic woman bob around like a chicken.  The woman… Effie Trinket, that's her name, reached into the ball holding countless names and called out.  Nova Artino.  A small girl with short black hair and tan skin looked up.  Fear flitted across her features, then quickly vanished.  She marched up to the stage and turned and faced the crowd.  Danna leaned forward, enraptured by this strange girl.  There was something about her that she couldn’t place.  She seemed familiar almost.  Danna shook her head.  What was she thinking?  Just another nameless girl that she would kill to secure her win.  This was all she had ever wanted anyways.  Right?
---
Nova stood on her chariot next to her district partner dressed up in a black unitard.  Flames flickered up and down her body, and Nova swallowed down her fear.
“You okay?”  Oscar asked.  He was dressed the same as her.
“Yeah.  It's just all a bit…”  she searched for the right word.  “Overwhelming.”
He smiled.  “I know what you mean.  Try and enjoy it though.  Could be the last few days left alive.”
Nova glared at him.  “Thanks.  Exactly what I needed to hear.”
He shrugged. Then let out a low whistle.  “What's district two doing all the way over here?”
Nova looked to see a girl marching over to them.  She was dressed in a metallic gray dress, with a slit up the leg.  Her blonde hair was pulled back into a low bun and her eyes glowered fiercely at Nova.  Nova blushed and ducked her head.
“What the hell are you doing over here?” Nova growled.
The girl smirked.  “Just wanted to look around.  I don’t think that I have much to worry about, at least from district twelve.”  She smiled lazily.  Nova felt fire burning though her.
“Just because we aren’t the Capitols lap dogs doesn’t mean we don’t stand a chance.  You better watch yourself,” She shouted at her.
“Nova..” Oscar cautioned.  People were starting to look towards them.  “Leave it.”
“I’ll see you later,” the girl said.  She wiggled her fingers and slipped back towards her chariot, hips stuck out jauntily.
“You should have let me at her.  I’ll give her a piece of my mind!” Nova said to Oscar.
“You can’t fight now, it's against the rules.  Save that anger for the arena.”
“You're probably right.  I’m just so sick of people treating us like we’re less than, just because we didn’t volunteer, like those idiots.”  She shot a glance at the careers.
“Come on.  It's starting,” Oscar said gently.  Nova sighed and lifted her chin.  She pasted a smile onto her face and waved at the screaming crowd.  She wanted to scream.  Repulsive.  Everything about the Capitol was completely, utterly repulsive.
---
Danna hurled her spear straight through the dummy's chest from twenty yards back.  She smiled proudly.  She turned, feeling eyes staring at her and saw Nova glaring at her from across the room.  She stood by the shelter building station, a half built hammock stood next to her.  Danna looked away, trying to ignore the heat spreading across her cheeks.
She moved on, trying a new station.  Archery.  Dann listened as the attendant explained how to use the bow, her foot tapping impatiently against the ground.  Finally, Danna strung her bow and pulled the string back.  And let go.  The arrow stuck the outside of the target and stuck, wavering in the air.  Someone scoffed.  Danna turned and saw Nova laughing at her.  She walked over and strung her own bow and pulled back the arrow.  She let it fly.  Bullseye.  Danna’s cheeks reddened once more, but she couldn’t tell whether it was from shame, or something else entirely.
“You’re good at that,” Danna said quietly.
Nova raised an eyebrow.  “I thought that people from district twelve were not going to be a problem to you.”
“They won't be.”  Danna hardened her face and turned away.
Nova laughed.  Her laugh was so soft, like trickling water.  “Alright then.”  She turned and left, heading towards another station.  Danna watched her through the corner of her eye all day.  She knew she should be preparing herself for the games, but she was drawn to Nova.  It was almost magnetic.
---
Nova stood on the metal plate as it rose out of the ground.  The warm sunlight hit her skin.  She smiled for a second, then remembered everything.  She scanned her surroundings.  All 24 tributes stood on metal disks surrounding the cornucopia.  A lake gleamed not far to the right and a large forest rustled  behind the cornucopia.  That was where Nova should head.  But the bright gleam of weapons and supplies gleamed at the cornucopia…
Nova saw Danna standing across from her, already in a running stance, just waiting for the gong to sound.  She saw Nova staring at her and let out a dazzling smile.  Nova felt her breath catch and almost missed it when the gong did soud.  She recovered quickly and darted forwards. She grabbed a backpack and belt of knives, along with a large flask.  Nova sprinted towards the woods, ready to get as far away from the bloodshed as possible.  A knife whizzed past her head, nicking her ear.  Nova turned to see Danna sprinting towards her, her arms full of knives.  Nova ducked as she hurled her next one.
“Better get back to the cornucopia,” Nova drawled.  “All the good stuff will be gone if you waste your time with me.”  Danna glanced back.  Then fixated her stormy eyes on Nova.
“I’ll kill you,” She growled, then sprinted back towards the fight.
Nova kept running, not daring to stop until she couldn’t hear anything but the woods around her.  She opened her pack and looked inside.  A small first aid kit, a bag of dried meat, a container of crackers, water purification tablets.  The flask was about halfway full with water, and the belt of knives had at least five different blades.
“Better watch out, Danna,”  she snarled.  “This bitch from district twelve is coming for you.”
---
Danna trudged through the woods, searching for tributes.  She and three other careers had been combing the woods for at least three days now.  In the original bloodbath, the boy from district four had been killed, but all the other careers survived.  Then, the next day, Danna’s district partner had slipped and broke his neck crossing a river.
“Girl from three, both from nine, girl from eleven and girl from twelve, right?”  Danna asked.  “Those are the only ones left?”
“Yeah.”  Leila, the girl from district one said.  She had a reedy high pitched voice.
“Come on, let's find them,”  Danna said.  She picked up her pace, and the others followed.  A branch snapped, and they whirled around.
“Dammit,” a quiet voice mumbled.  Danna hefted her spear up and motioned for Leila to circle around the tree.
“Come out,” Danna said.  “You can’t hide from us.”  She  walked forward, towards the tree the voice had come from.  She walked around and… nothing.  Whoever it was disappeared.
“What the hell!”  Leila exclaimed.  “What's going on-”  her words were cut short.  A knife protruded from  below her ribs and blood burbled out of her mouth.  She collapsed down and a cannon sounded.
“Oops.”  Nova stood ten feet away, knives in her hands.  “Told you not to count twelve out.”
“Get her,” Owen, Leila’s district partner screamed.
“No!”  Danna wanted to respond.  She didn’t want to see Nova’s dead body.  The careers charged forward, snarling.  Nova ran, but she wasn’t going to be fast enough, Danna could tell.  Before she could stop herself, she threw herself in front of the careers.
“Go!”  She shouted to Nova, who was staring open mouthed at her.  “Run!”  Nova wasted no time and darted away.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Danna?”
“Something incredibly heroic or incredibly stupid,” she muttered.  She jabbed her spear at them and they jumped back.
“It's two against one,” Owen smiled cruelly.  “I think that we stand a pretty good chance.”  He drew out his sword, the metal gleaming in the sun.  “You’re gonna pay for letting that bitch go.”  Danna swallowed nervously.  “I know.”
---
A cannon sounded.
“No!”  Nova cried out then clamped her hands over her mouth.  That was probably Danna.  She had for some reason stopped the tributes for killing her, and now she was dead.  A tear tracked its way down Nova’s cheek and she leaned against the tree, her body heaving with sobs.  Watching the games back home, through a tv, had seemed awful, but the reality?  The reality was so much worse.
She had to move.  The careers would be searching for her.  She didn’t have time to grieve, especially for someone she barely knew.
“Keep moving, Nova,” she whispered to herself.  She wiped her eyes, and started to walk again, heading as far away from the careers as possible.
When she settled down at night, crooked in the branches of a large tree she let the tears spill from her eyes.  Let the audience think of her as weak.  She didn’t need anything from them.  The anthem played and the dead were projected in the sky.  Nova braced herself for Danna;s face to show but it never came.  The girl from 1, the boy from three, the girl from four and the boy from eleven.  Danna was not dead.
“You're alive!”  Nova whispered as she carefully slipped to the ground.  “You're alive, and I’m gonna find you.”
---
Danna opened her eyes to see a familiar face shaking her.
“Nova?” She asked blearily.
“Shhhh.  It's me.  You're gonna be okay.”  Nova smiled, and Danna’s heart fluttered.  “You got hurt pretty bad though.  I’m gonna move you to that clump of rocks over there.”  Nova pointed out a clump of boulders, dark lumps in the night.
“Okay.”
“1..2..3..”  Nova heaved Danna upwards.  Danna winced as her knee buckled, refusing to bear weight.  Somehow, they made it to the rocks and Nova laid Danna down.  She cleaned Danna’s cut and bandaged it carefully.
“Why’d you come back for me?”  Danna asked.
Nova looked at her, her blue eyes meeting Danna’s.  “I don’t know.”  She took a breath.  “Why did you stop them from killing me?”
Danna smiled a little.  “I don’t know.”  She reached up and cupped Nova’s head in her hand.  “But I’ve got a pretty good idea.”  She pulled Nova in for a deep kiss.  Electricity tingled along her spine.
“Seems like solid reasoning,” Nova laughed breathless when they broke apart.  She leaned back down and traced Dannas mouth.  Danna shuddered.
“What about the Capitol?”  Nova whispered.  “We can’t… be together.”
“Screw the Capitol.  I love you,” Danna whispered back and pulled Nova in for another kiss.
Nova’s warm arms wrapped around her and she let the tension out of her body.
“Sleep,”  Nova said.  “I’ll keep watch.”
“Fine.  Wake me up so you can sleep.”
“Yeah yeah.  Now sleep.” Nova pushed Danna’s head down.
---
A cannon fired, startling Nova awake.  She let out a breath when she saw Danna, safe beside her.
“Who do you think?”  Nova asked.
“I don’t know.  Could be anyone.”
“How’s your leg?”  Nova sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
“Fine.  A little stiff, but it can kinda hold weight.  I won’t be able to travel very far though.”  Danna smiled.  “There’s only six people left Nova!  We can do it!”
“Yeah.  But what if it is down to the two of us?  We can’t both win.  We-”  Danna pressed her finger down onto Nova’s lips.
“Don’t worry about it.  We can worry about that when the time comes.”  She kissed Nova’s lips.
Nova sighed. “Fine.  What’s the plan?”
“We should gather food, as much of it as we can.  Maybe, we could head towards the edge of the arena and hideout there,” Danna suggested.
“Alright.  Let's get started.”  Nova hopped up and held out her hand to Danna.  Danna grabbed it and pulled herself up.
“Let's get started,” Danna echoed.
Nova grasped Danna’s palm firmly and they started to walk.  They told each other stories about their lives in their own district.
“The people at the Capitol are probably going crazy,” Danna whispered.  “To have two tributes from different districts fall in love…”
Nova smirked.  “Especially since they’re both girls.  It will be a fun mess when we get home.”  We.  not I.  Not you.  We.
“They won’t be able to stop us from being together, no matter what, right?”  Danna said.
“Right.”  Nova kissed her nose lightly.
A branch cracked behind them, and they both whirled around.  The tribute from eleven stood behind them, a stick in her hands.  Danna grabbed a knife and threw it straight into the girls chest in one motion.  She drew in a shaky breath.
“We let our guard down,” she said to Nova.  Nova nodded, breathless.  A cannon sounded.
“A little bit closer to home.”
“Home.”  Danna sighed.  “District two isn’t really my home.”
“Then where is it?”
“Anywhere with you.”  she smiled sappily at Nova.
Nova smiled.  “You hopeless romantic.”
“You're one to talk.”
“Oh shut up.”  She shoved her shoulder playfully.
---
Rain poured outside and thunder boomed.  Danna crawled over to Nova and put her arm around her.
“The tributes from three and nine are dead,” Nova said in a flat tone.  “It's just us and Owen left.”
“Hey, that's good right?  It means we’re almost there.”  Danna nestled her head into Nova’s shoulder.  “We only need to kill one more person.”
“Yeah. I’m just worried about us.”  Nova turned towards Danna and she could see the fear gleaming in her eyes.  “The president won’t let us be a thing.  I don’t think that we will both be able to leave the arena.”
Danna squeezed Nova’s hand.  “Problems for later remember.  Just killing Owen is what we need to focus on.”
“Yes ma’am,” Nova joked, a faint smile etched onto her lips.
“He’ll be out looking for us.  I know it.”
“So why bother looking for him? Why not just wait for him to find us?”
Danna straightened.  “The cornucopia.  We should head there.  We may find some supplies, and it would be a good place to stay.  It's sheltered and easy to guard.”
“Perfect.”  Nova smiled.  “It's about a day’s walk, so we should start now.”
“Agreed.”  Danna glanced around, to see if they forgot anything.  “Lets go.”
“Lets go kill that bastard.”  Nova’s eyes gleamed as water streamed down her face.  Her hair was plastered to her forehead, her eyes sparkled with excitement.  “He shouldn’t have messed with my girlfriend!”
Danna froze.  She turned to Nova, a small smile on her face.
“That is… are we officially a couple?”  Nova asked, slightly uncertain.  “Cause I had kinda assumed, but I never really asked.”  She cleared her throat awkwardly.  “Danna, will you be my girlfriend?”
Danna threw her arms around Nova and squeezed her tightly to her.  “Yes!”  A grin split her face.  She pressed her lips firmly against Nova’s.  “Yes, I will be your girlfriend.  I love you Nova.”
“Good, because that would have been awkward otherwise.”  Nova laughed nervously.  “Now come on, girlfriend.  We have people to kill.”  Nova grasped Danna’s hand and her heart raced.
“Indeed we do.  Let's go find Owen, so we can finally get out of here!  The Hunger Games will not keep us for much longer, I promise you that Nova Artino,” Danna said.
“I’ll hold you to that,” Nova warned.
“I would expect nothing less,” Danna replied.  She kissed Nova’s cheek, and they walked hand in hand towards the cornucopia.
---
Owen waited for them there,his hands resting on his knees.  He looked at the two of them with disgust.
“So that's why you betrayed us, Danna,” he called out.  “To go fuck some girl from distict twelve.”  He spat the last words out with disgust.
Danna stepped forwards, already reaching for her knives.  “I don’t really care what you think, but did I really betray you?  The second everyone else was dead, you were planning on planting a knife in my own back.”
“So?  That's how the games work.”  He let out a laugh.  “Or did you forget that it's all a game.”
Nova had had enough.  “It's not a game.  Its survival.  Back home, it's a death sentence, for you it's a chance to prove yourself.  You really think that this is all some game?” Nova asked, incredulous.  “Come on Danna.  Let's go home.”  SHe pulled out two knives.  They looked at each other, eyes meeting.  Danna nodded once.  They charged at Owen together.  He fended off both their blows and struck some of his own.  He was fast and strong, but against two skilled opponents, he was beginning to tire. Danna put a gash across his leg and Nova stabbed his arm.  He began to lag, his sword strokes getting weaker and sloppier.  Finally, he tripped backwards, his sword skittering across the ground.  Danna plunged her dagger into his heart.
“We did it,” Nova said.  “We won.”  The cannon sounded.  They embraced each other, tears spilling out of their eyes.
“No..  we didn’t win.”  Danna realized, with growing horror.  “There are two people still alive.”
Nova understood.  “I’ll die.  I don’t want to live without you.”
“No!”  Danna shouted.  “I don’t want to live without you.”  She pressed her forehead against Nova’s and whispered, “Please.  Let me die.  You can live your life.”
“Like hell,” Nova snarled.  She pressed a knife into Danna’s palm and lifted her own up.  She pressed it against her chest, angling it upward.  “They need a victor.”
Danna’s eyes widened.  She grasped for Nova’s hand and lifted her own blade.  “Together?”
“Till the end.” Nova screwed her eyes shut and shoved the blade into her chest.  She collapsed onto the ground, her blood mixing with Danna’s. She took in one shuddering breath… and let it out. Her heart slowed and her blood leaked out onto the ground. Two cannons sounded at the exact same time.
