once again thinking about how the neurodivergent understanding of Happy Feet makes the movie 10x better and the fact that most people are neurotypical and just wouldn't get it is why the movie is so slept on (seriously it's so good). mumble is autistic coded and the whole movie begins to make sense when you consider the in depth implications of that.

I saw someone somewhere say that not all the Aphrodite kids are “conventionally” attractive AND I WILL STAND BY THAT!!!!

Because yes!!! They’re not all white and skinny there’s gotta be some variety. They’re the children of the goddess of love and beauty, self love is a given. Confidence makes the most beautiful people.

Like even if some of them have braces or acne or whatever, I know they’re all beautiful and charming like it’s the vibes you know? People try so hard to make braces seem awkward but some of the prettiest girls I know have braces and they LOVE to laugh and show them off.

I also just know the Aphrodite boys are ACTUALLY CLEAN. They all actually wear chapstick, put on deodorant, brush their teeth and T A K E B A T H S. Nothing is more attractive than a man that actually washes his ass let me tell you.

What makes all the Aphrodite kids beautiful is that they’re all confident, there’s no way all of them have pretty baby blues or the metabolism of fucking cheetahs. And I just know they’re supportive like come on. Hot bitches don’t gate keep

i’ve expended an enormous amount of physical and emotional energy over the last two days on very little sleep (spent 10 hours straight at work setting up a display + a meeting, got home at 9:30 and then stayed up until 5:30 working on a dress for a wedding, then got up at 10 and helped set up/attend/clean up said wedding until 9) and instead of feeling particularly tired my body’s decided to manifest all my exhaustion and stress as intense insecurity and the feeling that my mother doesn’t actually like me

Me: The reason why High School Musical The Musical The Series works so well is because at the end of the day, it took the correct but surface level message of the original movies (that theater is for everyone, even jocks and math nerds), and added a sense of depth to it that reflects reality better than pretty much any other theater focused show or movie I've ever seen.

When I say that, I mean that shows or movies that involve a drama club or theater in general will take the message of "theater is for everyone" and really only apply it to queer (and sometimes only queer coded) outcasts. And yeah, it's true that theater is for the queer outcasts. I'm saying this as a queer person who loves theater! Theater is a major safe space for all the queer people who were picked last in dodgeball, and that will never change. But some things (*cough* the Theater Camp movie *cough*) will take that idea and project their message as "yeah, theater is for everyone" but they really only mean those types of people. HSMTMTS, on the other hand, understands that theater is not just for the queer outcasts, but for everyone.

Yes, there are queer kids in the East High Drama Club (who have significant arcs and get to be more than just stereotypes). There are also straight kids in the club (who also get full character arcs and get to be more than the butt of the joke in a theater environment). They are able to co-exist. There are certified skater bois who start off only caring about themselves. There are water polo players with six packs who have also been into theater for years. There are shy kids who don't think they can handle being on stage and then really come into their own by the end of the series. There are kids with anxiety. There are outgoing kids who want to be the center of attention. There are kids who have been kicked out of school for their attitude problems and kids who have never been in one place long enough to get attached to people. There is never a joke made about the straight, good looking, social butterflies not belonging in the club, because Miss Jenn truly understands the message that THEATER IS FOR EVERYONE, not just the Sharpays and Ryans. William Afton rant(?)

The idea of William actually caring for his kids makes him a more compelling and realistic character in my eyes. I like the thought of William still being able to feel the loss of his children while being an utter monster. And in the scene where he stabs Vanessa he looks almost taken aback himself. As if processing what he had done before getting angry and going on to finish what he had started before.

It's not the fact that he seems to not care that makes him a terrifying villain, it's the idea that he can care, in his own twisted way he still cares for his kids. He is an unstable individual, an utter monster.. But one that you can see small parts of humanity left in him. He's human, and that's what makes him so terrifying. Not that he's an unfeeling monster that ruthlessly murders kids for the hell of it. But that he kills kids while also caring for his own.

A monster who at first killed without a goal in mind. But after a while he went on to use his killings to fix his family. To bring back what he had lost. He's terrified of death, terrified of what happens afterwards. He is doing everything in his power to stay alive forever, and to bring his family with him. Even though he's doing it in a selfish manner, he took their lives away because he was selfish, and so he will selfishly bring them back to rebuild the family he had torn apart.

What this also does is ties him back to Henry. he is the dark parallel to Henry, like how AFO is the dark parallel to All Might. They are two men who are both trying to bring back what they lost because one of them took it all away. It makes William more of a person than a stereotypical villain, which can be done right but to me just feels bland for his case. Characters can be evil because they are evil. They're just evil for the hell of it. And that can be written well.

But for William it's more interesting to see him be evil not just because he's an evil man, but because he's selfishly trying to bring back his family. He's doing it out of selfishness. But it shows that he does care, he isn't a good father. Not by a long shot. But he loves his kids, he just doesn't know how to express it. And he doesn't stop loving them no matter what, he just loves them in a different way.

How to Train Your Dragon audiobook 1

Good news, it's my turn to pick the book/movie for the book club. We're doing How to Train Your Dragon. The audiobook is only 3½ hours long, it's on YouTube for free, and it's read by David Tennant! Some of the members haven't seen the movie before, so it should be a fun club meeting when we get to watch it together. I hope the book is good too. I've never read it before.
