Open Starter: Game Day

“That never gets old,” Kai chuckles to himself as a student passing by takes a double take at him in his Tourney jersey. It was one of his favorite things about game day, wearing his jersey and watching people realize that the giant teddy bear who always had snacks on him was, in fact, on the Tourney team.

Sighing, he opens his locker and gets out his stuff for his next class, closing his locker and turning around, jumping in surprise at the person behind him. “Oh, sorry, didn’t see you there.”

Closed Starter: Peculiar (Kenna/Kai/Nikki)

... yeah, that about described Kenna.

One didn't exactly expect to see a cheerleader in a black and red version of the rest of the squad's uniforms, fishnet tights, decorative chains, and fingerless gloves up to her elbows. And yet, there Kenna was, in the uniform she'd specially requested.

And not much of an idea if what to do with herself otherwise. But thank God for Audrey and her sleepover. Even if Audrey herself hadn't gotten to be there.

She walked up to Nikki. "Hey, uh, this might sound a little..." She sighed. "I'm not really sure... what to do with myself right now."

“Aww, don’t worry about it! I’ve totally got your back,” Nikki nudges her playfully, closing her water bottle. “Right now, we’re waiting on Jackie to get here to lead warm-ups anyways, I mean, like, with Audrey gone for now. Basically all there is to do right this moment is a few stretches and watch the Tourney practice.”

She nods across the field to where Jini is splitting off the team to practice against each other, blowing her whistle as she gets to the end of the line for all of them to split off to different sides.

Kai glances to Nikki as he goes to put on his helmet, planning to wave to her as he goes... freezing at seeing the girl beside her instead.

Oh.

Oh.

OH.

Nikki doesn’t immediately notice, waving to Kai with a smile and turning back to Kenna. “Jackie’ll be here soon though.”

Jini blows her whistle again to start the practice match. Kai, however, is frozen, transfixed by the new cheerleader.

“I made double chocolate muffins,” he’s offering as he sits down with her. “I didn’t know if you’d want any but I saved some just in case you did. How have you been?”

Kai smiles at Melina, who hadn’t actually invited him to sit with her, but he’d sat down anyways. Hence the muffins.

Open Starter: Baking With a New Friend

“Hey, whoa, spread them out more. We don’t want to make one mega-cookie.” Kai laughs a bit as he looks over. “The recipe we’re using was made to share lots of cookies with other people, not just divide a table-sized cookie in half.”

He walks over. “Do you want me to help?”

Open Starter: Getting Along

Kai laughs a bit and waves to some of his teammates who’d nudged him as they’d passed by on their way to class, getting a baggie of cookies out of his locker alongside his books.

Things here were pretty great in his opinion. Kai loved everything about Auradon Prep, and he’d found it so easy to make friends here. It was even cool to see Hakon around, though his brother was still avoiding him.

Smiling, he closes his locker quickly, getting ready to head to class when he sees someone who seems... a little down, actually. Opening his baggie, he gets a cookie and holds it out. “They’re chocolate chip. You look like you could use something to cheer you up.”

Closed Starter: Gentle Giant

“Oh, hey, that looks heavy, need some help?” Kai asks as he approaches the other boy carrying some box of some kind. Maybe a care package from his parents? In any case, it looks pretty big and heavy.

For as innocent and puppy-like as he looks, it can come as a shock to others when they’re reminded he’s on the Tourney team.

Open Starter: Making Friends

Kai gets into his locker, putting things up and grabbing a bag of brownies as he closes the door, in a good mood basically as always. He loves the school so far, and everything here has been great.

Next on his list is trying out for the tourney team, if they’d even have a spot, he has no idea, but he would still like to try. But on a less grand scale, next up would be making more friends. Even if Hakon didn’t want to talk to him, this is his first chance to really try meeting people and having friends at all!

Lost in thought, Kai rounds the corner and catches someone he bumps into, immediately smiling brightly at the other. “Oh, sorry about that!”

“Yeah, sorry, but a best friend won’t agree with you to make you happy. If anything, they’ll say what needs to be said, no matter if you want to hear it or not. Learned that one from my best friend.”

You're really dating that goth chick? Nobody even knows her name, Kai. Not like it matters, she's just some freak, like the rest of those "normal" kids. How do you know she isn't playing you for fun?

Kai growls, snapping his pencil when he slams it on the desk. "Her name is Kenna, and I'm more than happy to make sure anyone who feels stupid enough to say that to me gets it through their skull by any means necessary, now would you like to try me today?"
