I took one for the team. DM and Enty talk about Chris starting at about 11:10 on DM’s podcast. She starts with Chris & Ryan saying they hate each other. They both have taken private jets on this junket yet the rest of the cast have flown together on commercial flights. And Enty says The Gray Man is a crap movie… and they both know it.. Chris & Ryan I mean. That the guys have no chemistry. Then they go into talking about hearing that Ryan cheated on his wife when they were dating. Then says Eva stays home and doesn’t work because Ryan won’t let her. Then they get back to Chris and his interview of saying he’s looking for the one. Neither believe him and say he’s full of shiat. (DM’s words) Enty tries saying Chris sleeps around a lot. And that he likes it that fans try to hook him up with different women and go all out trying to prove it. He laughs and gets a kick out of it. And they (enty & dm) make fun of the fans that do this. They move on to Albatrash. They don’t believe he was with her but that he was sleeping with Ana doing Ghosted. They say Chris will sleep with anyone that offers it up.. if they are married or in a relationship like Ana, he doesn’t care, he’ll sleep with them. They brought up Scarlett as well, as to them having hooked up in the past and if he hadn’t have backed out of the PA movie he’d try to sleep with her again. Then they laugh and joke more about how crazy his fans are. Then they moved on to other gossip.
Sounds like a bunch of bull they made up. And then trash talking and laughing at Chris’ fans. They really, really hate them and think they are crazy.
Other anons:
"but it wasn't the DM herself who said that he only has relationships with women his age, she's really desperate."
"I have listened to DM I’ll do every other week 😓 (!) So, Enty said the movie is crap because there’s not “screen connection” between Ryan & Chris and apparently they don’t like each other blah, blah Then they commented on the “laser focus” answer saying yes, he is laser focus on the next person will hook up with. They raise good points tho on the weird obsession that people have with his personal life and digging into IG follow&like and connecting landscapes and clouds. They quickly mention Ana"
"Someone did a summary of DM and Enty's convo. They ooze misery, bitterness, and jealousy. They left no stone unturned in their character assasination of Chris, Ryan, Ana, and Eva. I knew Enty was garbage years ago. DM just sunk even lower."
"Lmao @ DM and Enty's sorry asses trying to talk like that about Chris and Ana. Also lmao @ DM because her trusted sources said they hate each other. It's obvious they have become good colleagues and have great camaraderie with each other. What a bunch of clowns. On the other hand I'm a lot more excited about Ghosted now and looking forward to it's promos next year!😍"
***
Tbh these two just sound like pressed assholes that are bitter at Chris doing totally the opposite of what they claim.
They come up with a secret girlfriend: Chris states he's single
They come up with Chris and Ana having feud: they keep showing how much they appreciate working with each other
I just love how they keep showing up what big clowns they are. But I'd wish people would stop engaging with their content. That's exactly the reason why they keep doing what they do, never forget that

★ Which sequels are you hoping to read soon? Happy #StackSaturday! I'm looking forward to reading the second book in @sarahmcradit’s The Book of All Things series, THE SYLVAN AND THE SAND! I think it will be one of next week’s reads. 🖤 This is the second in a series of standalone fantasy romances set in The Kingdom of the White Sea world. In The Sylvan and the Sand you can expect: - Enemies to Lovers - Arranged Marriage - Close Proximity - Found Family Any time I read one of Sarah's books, I know I'm in for a treat—this is one of my favorite worlds to step into. No stone is left unturned, and its clear these stories are a labor of love and careful thought. I mention this every time, but the world building and political scheming are reminiscient of Game of Thrones, while the romance and characters remind me of Falling Kingdoms or Throne of Glass. Highly recommend. You can also get the first book in the series THE RAVEN AND THE RUSH for $0.99 cents until May 15th! You need to read it first but I loved it and definitely recommend. ★★ GRAND PRIZE // 1 US Winner: - Signed hardcover of The Sylvan and the Sand - Series exclusive swag pack w/ art by @allexandracurte 1 INTL Winner: - Digital copy of The Sylvan and the Sand - Series exclusive swag pack w/ art by @allexandracurte ★ TO ENTER // - Must be following me, @sarahmcradit and @bookofmatchesmedia - Like, comment, save this post & tag 1 bookish friend ★ EXTRA ENTRIES // - Share giveaway in story for 24hrs tagging @sarahmcradit and @bookofmatchesmedia - Tag 3 friends in a comment (up to ten times per post) - Search #TheSylvanAndTheSandTour and enter the giveaway on the other posts every day through May 19th, for more chances to enter ★ RULES // Giveaway will end on May 19, 2022 at midnight PST, open to US/INTL, not affiliated with IG, must be 16+ or have parental permission to enter, must be a public acct to verify entries. ★ HASHTAGS // #bookstagram #booksofig #readingnook #bookshelf #bookish #bookstack #booklove #fantasybooks #booksofig #romantasy #fantasyromance #booknook #shelfie #SarahMCradit #TheRavenAndTheRush #TheSylvanAndTheSand #TheBookOfAllThings #BOMMtours #BOMMIndieAuthors #BookOfMatchesMedia https://www.instagram.com/p/CdjSIOJvj-W/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

eternalstrigoii: .............how dare I have this thought eternalstrigoii: so like.......iron powder on its own would just burn. Like. It would be borderline caustic, one would think. The tomb-blooms didn't so much make it worse as it probably just.....finished the job? Technically a plain ol' iron-powder bomb could like.......sear off feathers, cripple wings with third-degree burns kinda shit Permanently disfigure, surely Me: I think, depending on the Fey's tolerance for pain, it would definitely be a case of "worse over time/the longer it's making contact" at first. Like, boiling water or touching hot metal. Some people can withstand one of those more than others despite the physical affect of the skin, however the physical affect will remain the same. Think of it as a sort of skin irritant, but it could act more like an acid of dissolving skin cells rather than just destroying them which is what burning does (though you could argue it's the same thing ig depending on perspective, I'm not a Scientist nor Chemist) So yeah, it would burn like acid or red-hot metal, and certainly leave blisters if not dissolve through skin at a small level (aka only at point of contact) Me: Tomb Blooms seemed to have basically been an alchemical reaction; there's almost an implication here that the pollen from Tomb Blooms can actively seek out and bond to anything Fey/that turns into them upon death. I get this inclination because when you mix the pollen and the iron powder, it taints all of the pollen practically turning it into a mist of instant-dissolving acid that turns Fey into ashes upon contact. Which implies almost a sort of recognition from the genetics of the pollen interacting with the genetics of a Fey, creating a familiar bond, and thus when that pollen, tainted, touches something Familiar, it incinerates it. eternalstrigoii: god damn, Lickspittle (said in the tone of girl, what were YOU doing at the Devil's Sacrament?) Me: also it leaves me to wonder; do Tomb Blooms also grow naturally? why do tomb blooms have pollen if they're basically dead Fey? Do they also just happen to grow wildly and thus pollinate each other and create flowers that are tomb blooms but are not dead Fey, all starting FROM dead Fey? Or is there something we're missing about the affects of Pollen from the Tomb Bloom flowers on Fey when it's NOT tainted? Perhaps it has a medicinal/healing property since it's a theme of reincarnation? (Cause flower is given life from Fey Corpse, therein flower gives life to hurt Fey?) Or is it something completely wild like possibly able to be used for artificial insemination? cause after all, pollen is a breeding secretion of a flower. Welcome to the mind of an Aquarius that says "No Question Stone Left Unturned"

cairo is actually very logical in a problem-solving way,, her only downfall is that she tends to speak her process out loud which makes her seem very cold, accusatory and judgemental. like defense, she’s presented with a problem and knows that they could all get in trouble by going to the police so in order to save the people she knows she tries to work out a plan; you can see the cogs in her brain turning as she finally lands of framing mattie bc she doesnt know her. its also very prominent in idk where she says something and someone rebuttals it and she keeps arguing her point until shes satisifed that theres no stone left unturned so she can move onto a different point/person to accuse. in riley’s breakdown she actually refrains from voicing her process yet she still very logically assesses the situation and works out how she can defuse the situation and calm down others in the room (aka annleigh) by using information shes previously gained (annleighs dressage and us knowing cairo has been around for many of rileys smaller breakdowns). its almost like she knows violence wont calm riley and the only way to get to her to calm down is to speak rationally towards her; she tries to stop reese from distracting riley so kate can hit her but they dont listen to her causing kate to get stabbed (ig it ultimately worked bc reese hit her after but i truly think cairo couldve calmed her and talked her into letting them out). also leads to my last post about how i think she couldve spent many nights trying to work out who couldve actually been the killer and landing on riley.
#the breakdown bit is a bit of a reach#but idk is so valid u cant convince me otherwise#this is why i dont think shes just a bitchy#she just... has no filter between her brain and mouth#we are the tigers#hcs#(well not rly but)

Chronophage, Th’ Pig Kiss’d (Cleta Patra, 2020)
I have no idea what’s up with these band writing the lyrics to only one song on their lyric sheets. Is there something wrong with the other songs? Is that one especially important? Who knows.
It doesn’t sound like “Animated Rose” is the only song worth paying attention to on Chronophage’s sophomore LP. Quite the opposite, really. It’s nearly impossible to be distracted from Th' Pig Kiss’d, because the Texas quartet put together a collection of songs so endearing, so diverse, so good, your brain will be shutting the rest of the world out.
I once had the chance to interview Mike Watt and he basically said that his whole life mantra was “let your freak flag fly”, which sounds like a very basic thing to say, unless you come across somebody who actually lives by it, like Watt, or Chronophage.
Chronophage make earnest, cheap and raw pop music with an enthusiastic, frenzied approach. They genuinely sound like these songs just poured out of them, by which I mean they sound visceral, but not hasty. They switch from the jangly pop of “At Last I Am Run Dry” to the artsy post-punk of “Any Junkyard Dreams”, from the econo-AOR “Destiny Falls" to the anarcho-punk-leaning “Name Story”. There’s no stone left unturned, as long as it’s catchy and interesting and inspiring, Chronophage will get into it and cover it in a blanket of warm, fuzzy, home-recorded spontaneity.
If their first album sounded like a happy accident, the second cements Chronophage as some of the brightest and most original songwriters in the current “marginal music” scene. They just don’t sound or look like they would even be capable of aping someone else’s style or jumping on any bandwagon. The cover even looks like they tried their worst to look as uncool as possible, but no amount of ugly digital art or missing lyrics can dissuade me from loving the fuck out of this album.

The Case of the Missing Identity No. 2
Title: The Case of the Missing Identity
Pairing: Sherlock x reader (eventually)
Word Count: 1,039
Warnings: description of pictures that would be on a strip club’s IG. Not overly graphic. And mention of cigarettes.
Read No.1 to catch up
A/N: I only kind of sort of know where I’m going with this and also I have a crazy amount of projects I am working on. Another totally not mine gif.
“I-I don’t know. How can I not know?” you sat, horrified, taking drag after drag of your cigarette. He smirked lightly at you, almost sympathetically.
“I’m unsure. But I’ll take your case. I’ll find out who you are and what happened to you.” You let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding. A distant look overcame his features, as if remembering something that didn’t belong to that time, that place. Shaking his head slightly, his eyes focused back on you. “We shall start immediately. Turn out your pockets. Do you have any tattoos? Which person in my homeless network did you speak to?”
You tried quickly to respond to all the questions. “I, uh,” you faltered. “It was some woman. I’d know her if I saw her, but she was pretty average looking. I don’t really remember if I have any tattoos or distinguishing markings, though the second rib up on the right side feels pretty badly damaged and there is a slight burning sensation on the back of my neck. Then, I was also jumped before I met the woman. May just be from that.” You cocked your head to the side, watching him nearly fussing over you, unwrapping your scarf and removing your hat to further examine you. Come to think about it, you weren’t entirely sure you even remembered what you looked like. You suddenly felt yourself turning again into a puddle of embarrassment, this terrifically intelligent and intensly attractive man examining you (and your very possibly shabby appearance) for clues. Could he tell when your heart began to beat faster?
After a few minutes in an oddly comfortable silence, he took a step back and looked at you with wild eyes, as if the answer to everything was a forgotten word on the tip of his tongue. He had this intense desire to impress you and yet he had no idea what for. He watched as your eyes lit up in realization of a request unanswered and finally turned out the pockets of your overcoat, setting a half smashed pack of cigarettes, a matchbook, a receipt, a pocket watch, and a peppermint on the side table. You both immediately looked over the newly discovered treasures in an attempt to leave no stone unturned. The cigarettes didn’t yield much information, nor did the peppermint. However, the receipt--upon closer look for an ATM--indicated that you, or at least some version of you, had withdrawn 500 pounds. It also gave the address, but you doubted that, without your name on the receipt, you’d be able to retrieve any information further than that.
The matchbook looked fairly promising, as it was from a gentleman’s club near the location of the ATM, called Sophisticats. Naturally, that peaked both of your curiosity. Did you work there? Were you a customer there? Sherlock opened a laptop and began research, looking over photos from the club that could possibly indicate if you worked there. After a few moments, you heard Sherlock grumble. You glanced his way, the matchbook still in your hand. “The women in these photographs aren’t showing their faces.”
You smirked and rolled your eyes, “never thought I’d hear a man complain about that.” You nudged him over on the sofa so both of you could look at the pictures. Women in, what appeared to be, very expensive lingerie and skin tight dresses. Up close pictures of rear ends and bodies piled on top of each other danced across the screen.
Sherlock’s brow furrowed as he spoke, “yes, well, without you stripping down to your skivvies, I’d hardly think we have a basis for comparison.” You watched a small blush crawl up his neck and you suddenly felt a little giggly. “I was hoping to keep you away from potential danger, but we may just have to shop you around and ask if anyone knows you.” He sounded as if he was trying to scold you, but for some odd reason, you found yourself wanting to comfort the clearly concerned man.
Instead, you stood up and looked over the rest of the clues. The pocket watch, a little worn from use, had an inscription on the outside:
R-
My love for you is forever.
-J
You blinked rapidly, something not sitting right with you. Sherlock followed you over to where you stood and you handed the time telling device over to him. He seemed unimpressed and nearly disappointed by the discovery. You turned it over in your hands, knowing some clue was better than no clue.
“So, what shall we call me?” You asked, making light of a terribly confusing conversation. His eyes lit up slightly, studying you.
He grinned before speaking, “Rachel? Rowena? Rasputin?” You both chuckled, the air around you seeming incredibly thick. “Risk?”
You raised an eyebrow in question. Before you could respond, the woman with the hooded eyes had returned with your tea. “Mrs. Hudson, this young woman will be staying with us for a few days. Please make up a bed for her.” Sherlock refused to take his eyes off of you as he spoke.
“I’m not your housekeeper, Sherlock. And what, may I ask, is your name, dear?” She seemed annoyed, but kind. You felt yourself again searching for a name that wasn’t anywhere to be found.
“Until we find her identity, we’ll call her Risk. Please don’t mention her to anyone until we have this all sorted out. She will also require some clean clothes.” You stood there, not really knowing how to react to this entire situation, deciding to take the tea and sit back down in the dustier of the armchairs. Mrs. Hudson opened her mouth to argue, but looked at you with pity and changed her mind, nodding. After she left, you spoke, “why Risk?”
Sherlock chuckled, clearly finding this whole thing a bit more amusing than you were. “That’s what you are right now, aren’t you? You could be anyone? You could be the death of me. You are, in fact a risk.” You felt your cheeks flush slightly. He noticed it and immediately spoke up again, “you’re a risk I’m willing to take on.”
You nodded quietly and spoke, “I suppose we’re off to the club, then.”

FOREST MINISTER CALLS ON CM PUNJAB
LAHORE, March 09:
Provincial Forest Minister Muhammad Sibtain Khan called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Talking on the occasion, the CM said the PDM is striving for an NRO and made it clear that they will not get any NRO in the presence of PM Imran Khan. After its worst defeat in the federal government, the opposition will also remain unsuccessful in Punjab and no effort of staging a political circus will be successful, he added. The CM maintained that protection of personal interest is the real agenda of the PDM adding that their movement is directionless. He made it clear that this political cabal cannot hoodwink the people because citizens prefer development and prosperity over anything.
The CM reiterated that the incumbent government will complete its constitutional term adding that opposition will evade its long march call as like the threat of resignations. Those creating hurdles in the journey of development will get nothing, he continued.
Sibtain Khan maintained that the CM has promoted the politics of trust, honesty and decency and he is ever-ready for the solution of problems of the elected representatives. The corrupt politicians will remain unsuccessful in the presence of PM Imran Khan, he stressed. The politics is split between honest and trustworthy leadership and former rulers who are portraying a picture of dismay. The PDM ignored national interest and its hollow claims of giving respect to vote have died a natural death, he further added.

GHULAM BIBI BHARWANA MNA CALLS ON CM PUNJAB
LAHORE, March 09:
Ghulam Bibi Bharwana MNA called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office to discuss development schemes and other matters.
Talking on the occasion, the CM emphasised that every backward district will prosper as a separate development package will be given to it. The PTI government can be credited for making concerted efforts for overcoming the backwardness of remote areas, he maintained. Meanwhile, the CM regretted that the PDM is apathetic to national development and emphasised that assorted alliance will not be allowed to hinder the journey of development. Regrettably, the opposition weakened the national interest and its worth is also zero, he said. The opposition tried to politicise important issues and played a negative role, the CM lamented. He said the opposition is bent upon creating fuss from day one and those making tall claims have also been exposed. The opposition parties lack a strategy for public welfare, he maintained. Meanwhile, the people are fed up with the negative politics of politicians having dual faces, he said. On the other side, PTI feels the pain of the poor and time has proved that the timely decisions of the incumbent government yielded positive results in the shape of strengthening the economy, he added.
Ghulam Bibi Bharwana stated that the CM has always given respect to the parliamentarians and solved public problems. Every conspiracy of the opposition will be failed in Punjab in the presence of CM Usman Buzdar, she added.

How to See Taiwan on a Budget
Posted: 6/8/20 | June 8th, 2020
With a million things to do, a huge variety of delicious food, warm-hearted people, lots of hiking opportunities, and beautiful buildings and temples, Taiwan has it all.
Yet, despite that, it remains one of the most underrated — and undervisted — countries in Asia.
On the one hand, I like that it’s still off the radar because it means fewer crowds. You’ll never see too many people traveling around Taiwan. It’s, to use the cliche, a hidden gem you have (mostly) to yourself. There are no hordes of people trying to take their IG selfies.
On the other hand, it’s a shame people don’t make Taiwan a bigger travel priority because it’s so wonderful and has so much going for it. This is a country that deserves way more attention than it is given.
And, what’s great for budget travelers like us, is that Taiwan is also super affordable.
It’s on a level of cheapness similar to parts of Southeast Asia, with many meals costing only a few dollars. Even when I “splurged” on a meal like a high-end sushi omakase, I spent less than 1,200 NT$ ($40 USD). A meal (and too many beers) at an English style pub aimed at expats? Less than 360 NT$ ($12 USD).
Taiwan is a dream destination for those looking to get a lot of value for their money.
Today, I’m going to break down some typical costs in Taiwan, my suggested budgets, and ways to save.
Typical Costs
Taiwan is pretty cheap so, as long as you don’t eat at high-end restaurants or stay at upscale hotels, you won’t be hard-pressed to spend a lot of money. Here’s a list of typical costs in new Taiwan dollars (NT$):
Noodle soup – 30-45 ($1-1.50 USD)
Noodles – 40 ($1.35 USD)
Rice – 85-100 ($2.85-3.35 USD)
Lunch boxes – 100 ($3.35 USD)
Sushi lunch – 300 – 450 ($10 – 15 USD)
MosBurger (best fast food burger joint) – 165 ($5.50 USD)
Museum entry – 30-100 ($1-3.35 USD)
Metro ride – 30-65 ($1-2.15 USD)
Taxi – 70 (plus 25 per kilometer) ($2.35 USD plus 0.84 per km)
Intercity train ride – 375-850 ($12.55-$28.40 USD)
High-speed rail (HSR) – 155-1,500 ($5.20-50.15 USD)
Hostel dorm – 240-600 per night ($8-20 USD)
Hostel private room – 1,050-1,350 per night ($35-45 USD)
How Much Did I Spend?
Over 13 days, I spent a total of 29,273 NT$ (2,252 NT$ per day). In USD, that’s $981 ($75 USD per day). Now, my notes were a bit less than fully detailed towards the end of my trips and I can’t find some receipts so I’m going to round this up to an even 2,375 NT$ ($80 USD) per day.
That’s actually a lot more than I thought I spent. I had to do the numbers twice but more on that in a second. Here’s how those costs broke down:
Food – 8,597 NT$ ($289.20 USD)
Accommodation – 13,351 NT$ ($449.12 USD)
Tours/Museums – 1,410 NT$ ($47.43 USD)
Transportation – 5,915 NT$ ($198.95 USD)
So why did I spend so much money in a country that I said just was “super cheap”? I mean $80 is way more than Southeast Asia levels. Well, it has more to do with me than travel in Taiwan:
First, I stayed in private rooms. At three to four times the cost of a dorm, that is going to add up really quickly. I don’t like dorms since I’m a light sleeper and, since I was traveling alone, I didn’t have anyone to split the cost of the room with.
Second, I took a lot of high-speed trains. Those tickets are 600-1,200 NT$ ($20-40 USD) a ride versus 150-300 NT$ ($5-10 USD) for the regular train. Since I had little time and a lot of ground to cover, that drove up my costs.
Third, I took a few private tours as I wanted a local guide for myself so I could ask a battery of questions about life in Taiwan. I enjoy doing that over group tours, especially when I am researching destinations for guides like I was during this visit.
And, finally, in an effort to eat as much as possible, I probably had 3-4 meals a day, including many high-end restaurants and Western food. That amount of food really shrank my wallet (but sadly not my waistline). I’m talking a Hobbit level of eating here:
Those four things drove up my daily average to levels your average traveler/backpacker wouldn’t hit in such a short time.
How Much Do YOU need?
So, with that said, how much do you need to travel around Taiwan? If you replicated my trip, I think 1,930-2,230 NT$ ($65-75 USD) would be enough. You wouldn’t want for anything on that budget and it would cover cheap private accommodation, high-speed trains, some tours, and a healthy amount of food and drinks. If you took a few slower trains or stuck to eating at food markets (avoiding high-end sushi restaurants like me), you could get by closer to 1,785 NT$ ($60 USD) per day.
If you’re on a backpacker budget, you need around 890-1,040 NT$ ($30-35 USD) a day. A dorm room will cost you around 300 NT$ ($10 USD), meals are only 90-150 NT$ ($3-5 USD) each, and beer is pretty cheap. Taking regular (slower) trains would save a few more dollars a day.
In short, whether you’re a backpacker or just a regular budget traveler, you’re never going to spend a huge amount here. Outside accommodation and high-end food, everything in the country is super cheap.
How to Save Money in Taiwan
If you’re looking to spend even less money and get some good deals, here are things that can lower your costs even more:
1. Skip the High-Speed Rails (HSR) The high-speed trains in Taiwan are super convenient (though they only go down the west side of the island): they depart every 15 minutes and the journey between Taipei and Kaohsiung (the most southern point) only takes 1 hour and 50 minutes.
However, they are also very expensive: a ticket from Taipei to Kaohsiung costs around 1,500 NT$ ($51 USD). On the other hand, the “local” trains are half the price at just 845 NT$ ($28 USD) (likewise, it’s just 539-739 NT$ ($18-25 USD) from Taipei to Tainan and around 375 NT$ ($12.50 USD) from Taipei to Taichung).
Plus, the HSR line doesn’t pass through city centers, so you’ll either need to take a bus or train from the HSR station, costing more time and money.
So, if you want to save money and aren’t in a rush, skip the HSR trains.
2. Stay in Hostels In Taipei, hostel dorms can be found for 550-700 NT$ ($18.50-23.50 USD) per night for 6-10-bed rooms. Private rooms in hostels can be had for 1,600-2,200 NT$ ($54-74 USD) per night.
Also, skip hostel private rooms. A basic two-star hotel will cost 1,200-1,500 NT$ ($40-50 USD), making it a better budget choice if you want privacy.
3. Eat at the Food Markets The food in Taiwan is world-class. I didn’t appreciate it much when I lived there back in 2010, but now I realize just how diverse, tasty, and healthy the food is. Every town is littered with day and night markets. If you want to save money on food (and it’s very easy to do that here), eating the local food at these markets is the best way to eat on a budget. You’ll find most meals cost around 30-80 NT$ ($1-2.75 USD).
And, even if you prefer a sit-down restaurant, you’re looking at 120-150 NT$ ($4-5 USD) for a meal at a place serving Taiwanese cuisine.
You never need to spend more than 400 NT$ ($15 USD) per day here.
Eat local = save big!
4. Avoid Western Food I mean you didn’t come all this way to eat a bad version of the food you can get back home, right? You can find every Western dish your heart desires in Taiwan and most of these meals will cost about 300 NT$ ($10 USD). But, frankly, skip Western food. I never found anything that great and Taiwanese cuisine is way more delicious and filled with such variety that you’re not going to get tired of “eating the same thing” over and over again.
5. Take Free Walking Tours One of the first things I do when I arrive in a new destination is take a free walking tour. They give you the lay of the land, show you the main highlights of the city, and provide you with a local guide who can answer your questions.
Like It Formosa is the best walking-tour company in Taiwan, offering tours in Taipei, Jiufen, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Its tours have a cultural and historical focus, making them a great foundation for your visit.
And, if you’re in Taipei and want something more lively, Tour Me Away offers free tours as well as pub crawls and food tours starting at 600 NT$ ($20 USD) per person. They’re a good choice for backpackers looking to meet other travelers.
6. Take the Bus Intercity coach buses are available to all major cities around Taiwan, including Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. They are comfortable, modern, safe, and have air conditioning (too much, usually, so bring a sweater).
A bus from Taipei to Kaohsiung takes around five hours and costs 300-500 NT$ ($10-17 USD) depending on what day and time you depart.
The two main intercity bus companies are Ubus and Kuo-Kuang Bus. For fares and timetable information, visit taiwanbus.tw.
7. Take in the Free Attractions There are plenty of free temples, shrines, museums, and parks around the country. There’s more than enough to fill your days. I never had a problem wandering around the cities and finding things to do that didn’t cost a penny. Your local accommodation or guide book or Google can tell you what to do.
8. Go Hiking Spend your days hiking Taiwan’s many mountains and trails. Taiwan is filled with national parks. The country is so small that you are never far from any park, they are well connected to public transportation, and they are all free.
***
Taiwan is an incredibly affordable destination . To me, it’s on par with some destinations in Southeast Asia since the food was cheap and so many activities were free. You get a lot of value here. So, if you’re looking for an uncrowded and affordable place to visit, Taiwan is it.
Book Your Trip to Taiwan: Logistical Tips and Tricks
Book Your Flight Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner or Momondo. They are my two favorite search engines because they search websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is left unturned.

“This has been the most extensive investigation ever undertaken by the Inspector General's office [in the CIA], requiring the review of about 250,000 pages of documents and interviews with over 365 individuals. I am satisfied that the IG has left no stone unturned in his efforts to uncover their truth. “I must admit that my colleagues and I are very concerned that the allegations made have left an indelible impression in many Americans' minds that the CIA was somehow responsible for the scourge of drugs in our inner cities. Unfortunately, no investigation — no matter how exhaustive — will completely erase that false impression or undo the damage that has been done. That is one of the most unfortunate aspects of all of this.” Thus runs the introductory statement by CIA director George Tenet to the long-awaited report of CIA Inspector General Frederick Hitz, “Report of Investigation: Allegations of Connections between CIA and the Contras in Cocaine Trafficking to the United States. Volume I: The California Story,” finally released on January 29 of this year. It's been 18 months since Gary Webb published his series “Dark Alliance” in the San Jose Mercury News, detailing how Contra fundraisers Norwin Menesses and Oscar Danilo Blandon shipped cocaine in Los Angeles, under the eyes of a complaisant CIA. On September 3, 1996, within a month of the publication of Webb's series, then CIA director John Deutch pledged that the Agency's Inspector General would conduct an internal review and place the facts instantly before the American people “because of the seriousness of the allegations and the need to resolve definitely any questions in this area.” Over the intervening months, we've detailed the Agency's evasive behavior after this pledge and the cursory nature of the investigation. Now we have the part of the final report covering Webb's charges. After careful review we are happy to report to AVA readers the amazing news that at taxpayers' expense the Inspector General has published an astoundingly devious document designed to exonerate the Agency, evade all inconvenient questions and skate lightly over all incriminating facts. But since, as Tenet concedes in his mournful preface, most people believe that the Agency has played its part in the drug scourge, we should note here that the belief is entirely correct, and the CIA's denials entirely disingenuous. Indeed careful scrutiny of the report elicits damaging concessions made by the IG himself. First the IG's conclusions, which are that: The drug-running activities of Blandon and Menesses “were not motivated by any commitment to support the Contra cause or Contra activities undertaken by the CIA.” At most, Blandon contributed $40,000 and Menesses $3,000 to the Contras “although no information has been found to substantiate these claims.” “No employee of the CIA, or anyone acting on behalf of the CIA, had any direct or indirect dealing with Ricky Ross [the South-Central crack king of Los Angeles who got his cocaine from Menesses and Blandon], Oscar Danilo Blandon or Norwin Menesses.” The CIA played an inconsequential role in the return of $36,800 seized in a San Francisco Police raid on members of the Menesses drug ring. “The decision to return Zavala's money was based on other considerations, not CIA representations.” The evidence buttressing the charge that Menesses and Blandon were running drugs to help the Contra cause lies in the direct ties of the two Nicaraguans to the Contra leadership. As Webb first reported, Blandon testified in federal court that he and Menesses had met with Contra military leader Enrique Bermudez in Honduras and that Bermudez had told them that Contra movement was in desperate need of money and that “the ends justified the means.” In the same testimony Blandon described how, following the meeting with Bermudez, he and Menesses (known to Bermudez as the leading cocaine dealer in Nicaragua in the 1970s) had started wholesaling cocaine into California. The CIA report also furnishes new details of the close rapport between Blandon and Eden Pastora, a Contra leader ultimately at odds with Bermudez and the main CIA-created organization, the FDN. At a time when all of Blandon's income was coming from his drug dealing, he permitted Pastora to live — in the words of the IG report — “rent free in one of his homes in Costa Rica from 1984 to 1987.” Blandon gave Pastora thousands of dollars in cash in 1985 and two trucks in 1986. Blandon is quoted in the IG report as saying, “Pastora always asked everyone he came in contact with to raise money for the Contra cause.” The methodology of the IG's report can be gauged by the way it arrives at those precise amounts of money Blandon and Menesses gave to the Contras. The figures ($40,000 for Blandon and $3,000 for Menesses) are based entirely upon the self-interested assertions of the two, when questioned by the IG's team. Gary Webb used the word “millions” but was mercilessly trashed by his assailants in the press for doing so. But he was right. As L.J. O'Neale conceded in an interview with detectives from the Los Angeles sheriff's office, (in statements designed to reduce Blandon from the stature of being what O'Neale had once described as “the largest Nicaraguan cocaine dealer in the United States”), Blandon had dealt 40 kilos of cocaine into Los Angeles in 1992 alone, which was worth $2 million. The CIA passes in silence over O'Neale, and Blandon's own sworn testimony as a government witness in a U.S. trial, and presents as reliable testimony what Blandon and Menesses find it convenient to say today. Why would Blandon, now dealing in tropical lumber in Managua, want to admit anything? The CIA's willful credulity on what Menesses, now in prison in Managua, tells them is even more ludicrous. Meneses claims he never dealt drugs, was a merely “personnel recruiter for the Contras,” and donated only $3,000 in small amounts of between $50 and $100. Meneses also calls Blandon a liar. As for the IG's categorical assertion that no CIA employee or representative ever dealt with Rick Ross, Blandon or Menesses, one can note first that no one has ever asserted any such dealings with Ross. But of course Pastora and Bermudez were both on the CIA payroll, Norwin Menesses' older brother Luis Enrique was a military commander of the FDN working under Bermudez. Luis was arrested in 1991 with Norwin in Managua in a 700 kilo cocaine bust. The $36,800 returned to the Menesses drug ring came in the aftermath of a famous drug bust on the San Francisco waterfront called “the frogman case,” when the DEA captured Menesses' men unloading 200 kilos of cocaine. The raiding party confiscated $36,800 discovered in the nightstand next to the bed of one of Menesses' subordinates, Zavala. Zavala claimed the money was intended for the Contras. The CIA went to bat on his behalf. There is a memo in the CIA file, quoted in the IG report, that says “At OGC [the CIA's Office of General Counsel] request, the U.S. Attorney has agreed to return the money to Zavala.” Then, in the IG report, comes the smoking gun. The CIA says the money should be returned “to protect an operational equity, i.e. a Contra support group in which it [the CIA] had an operational interest.” An August 22, 1984 CIA memo also quoted in the IG reports the need for secrecy. The memo is under the name of Lee S. Strickland, at that time the CIA's assistant counsel in the OGC. The memo says, “I believe the station must be made aware of the potential for disaster. While the allegations [i.e., drugs for Contra guns] might be entirely false, there are sufficient factual details which would cause certain damage to our image and program in Central America.” How does the IG report get round this? It blandly quotes Strickland as saying “he had no recollection” of the entire matter. Even so, Strickland said the return of $36,800 worth of drug money intended for the Contras was “not a big deal.” As for the incriminating memos, Strickland is quoted in the IG report as saying that if he did write them, they were “inartfully worded.” The inspector General's report divulges to the attentive reader a CIA cable written on October 22, 1982 which reports that Contra leaders were meeting in Costa Rica for “an exchange in (the U.S.) of narcotics for arms.” The parenthesis is the IG's. CIA agents were instructed by their superiors not to look into this arms-for-drugs transaction “in light of the apparent involvement of U.S. persons throughout, agree you should not pursue the matter further.” And how today does the IG deal with the memo? He seizes the tail trailed by the memo writer and says that the CIA quite properly took no action (such as alerting the DEA) because to have done so would have been to infringe the prohibition against domestic activities by the Central Intelligence Agency.

It seems that Crime Branch is not leaving any stones unturned to secure conviction of Punjilal Meher, the mastermind of Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion that left two persons including newlywed Soumyasekhar Sahu dead in February. The owner and the staff of the concerned courier agency through which the killer parcel was sent, have identified Punjilal during a Test Identification (TI) Parade. Sources said the officials of the investigating agency have got some vital evidences to establish that Punjilal had visited Raipur via Kantabanji Station as some people claimed to have spotted him. Moreover, Punjilal has also been caught on the CCTV camera at one of the parking lots near the Kantabanji Station railway station where he had parked his motorcycle, informed sources. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch has also recorded the statements of the ‘key eye-witnesses’ who spotted Punjilal near the station under section 161 of the CrPC. All such facts and evidences will be vital during trial of the case and the investigating agency is also working on establishing the ‘sequence of events’ of the crime, said sources. Apart from this, the forensic examination of the remains collected from the dustbin in front of Punjilal’s house has confirmed the presence of gun powder, added sources. Crime Branch IG, Arun Bothra said that they have adequate evidence against Punjilal right from the day one including the making of the parcel bomb, his visits to Raipur and the courier agency and the letter written by him to mislead the investigation.
