KINGDOM OF ASH (by SJM)
Chapter 48
THE FAMILY REUINIONđ„čđđđ«¶& MY SOULLL
But when they reached Princess Hasar's battle tent, when they had all gathered around a map of Anielle, they had only a few minutes of discussion before they were interrupted. By the person Chaol least expected to walk through the flaps.
A moment later, Chaol was glad he was sitting down.
Nesryn breathed, "Holy gods."
Chaol was inclined to agree as Aelin Galathynius, Rowan Whitethorn, and several others entered the tent.
They were mud-splattered, the Queen of Terrasen's braided hair far longer than Chaol had last seen. And her eyes ... Not the soft, yet fiery gaze. But something older. Wearier.
Chaol shot to his feet. "I thought you were in Terrasen," he blurted. All the reports had confirmed it. Yet here she stood, no army in sight.
Three Fae males-towering warriors as broad and muscled as Rowanâhad entered, along with a delicate, dark-haired human woman.
But Aelin was only staring at him. Staring and staring at him.
No one spoke as tears began sliding down her face. Not at his being here, Chaol realized as he took up his cane and limped toward Aelin.
But at him. Standing. Walking.
The young queen let out a broken laugh of joy and flung her arms around his neck. Pain lanced down his spine at the impact, but Chaol held her right back, every question fading from his tongue.
Aelin was shaking as she pulled away. "I knew you would," she breathed, gazing down his body, to his feet, then up again. "I knew you'd do it."
"Not alone," he said thickly. Chaol swallowed, releasing Aelin to extend an arm behind him. To the woman he knew stood there, a hand over the locket at her neck.
Perhaps Aelin would not remember, perhaps their encounter years ago had meant nothing to her at all, but Chaol drew Yrene forward. "Aelin, allow me to introduce"
"Yrene Towers," the queen breathed as his wife stepped to his side.
The two women stared at each other.
Yrene's mouth quivered as she opened the silver locket and pulled out a piece of paper. Hands trembling, she extended it to the queen. Aelin's own hands shook as she accepted the scrap.
"Thank you," Yrene whispered.
Chaol supposed it was all that really needed to be said.
Aelin unfolded the paper, reading the note she'd written, seeing the lines from the hundreds of foldings and rereadings these past few years.
"I went to the Torre," Yrene said, her voice cracking. "I took the money you gave me, and went to the Torre. And I became the heir apparent to the Healer on High. And now I have come back, to do what I can. I taught every healer I could the lessons you showed me that night, about self-defense. I didn't waste it-not a coin you gave me, or a moment of the time, the life you bought me." Tears were rolling and rolling down Yrene's face. "I didn't waste any of it."
Aelin closed her eyes, smiling through her own tears, and when she opened them, she took Yrene's shaking hands. "Now it is my turn to thank you." But Aelin's gaze fell upon the wedding band on Yrene's finger, and when she glanced to Chaol, he grinned.
"No longer Yrene Towers," Chaol said softly, "but Yrene Westfall."
Aelin let out one of those choked, joyous laughs, and Rowan stepped up to her side.
Yrene's head tilted back to take in the warrior's full height, her eyes widening-not only at Rowan's size, but at the pointed ears, the slightly elongated canines and tattoo. Aelin said, "Then let me introduce you, Lady Westfall, to my own husband, Prince Rowan Whitethorn Galathynius."
For that was indeed a wedding band on the queen's finger, the emerald mud-splattered but bright. On Rowan's own hand, a gold-and-ruby ring gleamed.
"My mate," Aelin added, fluttering her lashes at the Fae male. Rowan rolled his eyes, yet couldn't entirely contain his smile as he inclined his head to Yrene.
Yrene bowed, but Aelin snorted. "None of that, please. It'll go right to his immortal head." Her grin softened as Yrene blushed, and Aelin held up the scrap of paper. "May I keep this?" She eyed Yrene's locket. "Or does it go in there?"
Yrene folded the queen's fingers around the paper. "It is yours, as it always was. A piece of your bravery that helped me find my own."
Aelin shook her head, as if to dismiss the claim.
But Yrene squeezed Aelin's closed hand. "It gave me courage, the words you wrote. Every mile I traveled, every long hour I studied and worked, it gave me courage. I thank you for that, too."
Aelin swallowed hard, and Chaol took that as excuse enough to sit again, his back giving a grateful tinge. He said to the queen, "There is another person responsible for this army being here." He gestured to Nesryn, the woman already smiling at the queen. "The rukhin you see, the army gathered, is as much because of Nesryn as it is because of me."
A spark lit Aelin's eyes, and both women met halfway in a tight embrace. "I want to hear the entire story," Aelin said. "Every word of it." Nesryn's subdued smile widened. "So you shall. But later." Aelin clapped her on the shoulder and turned to the two royals still by the desk. Tall and regal, but as mud-splattered as the queen.
Chaol blurted, "Dorian?"
Rowan answered, "Not with us." He glanced to the royals.
"They know everything," Nesryn said
"He's with Manon," Aelin said simply.
Chaol wasn't entirely sure whether to be relieved. "Hunting for something important."
The keys. Holy gods.
Aelin nodded. Later. He'd think on where Dorian might now be later. Aelin nodded again. The full story would come then too.
Nesryn said, "May I present Princess Hasar and Prince Sartaq."
Aelin bowedâlow. "You have my eternal gratitude," Aelin said, and the voice that came out of her was indeed that of a queen. Any shock Sartaq and Hasar had shown upon the queen bowing so low was hidden as they bowed back, the portrait of courtly grace.
"My father," Sartaq said, "remained in the khaganate to oversee our lands, along with our siblings Duva and Arghun. But my brother Kashin sails with the rest of the army. He was not two weeks behind us when we left."
Aelin glanced to Chaol, and he nodded.
Something glittered in her eyes at the confirmation, but the queen jerked her chin at Hasar. "Did you get my letter?"
The letter that Aelin had sent months ago, begging for aid and promising only a better world in return. Hasar picked at her nails. "Perhaps. I get far too many letters from fellow princesses these days to possibly remember or answer all of them."
Aelin smirked, as if the two of them spoke a language no one else could understand, a special code between two equally arrogant and proud women. But she motioned to her companions, who stepped forward. "Allow me to introduce my friends. Lord Gavriel, of Doranelle." A nod toward the tawny-eyed and golden-haired warrior who bowed.
Tattoos covered his neck, his hands, but his every motion was graceful. "My uncle, of sorts," Aelin added with a smirk at Gavriel. At Chaol's narrowed brows, she explained, "He's Aedion's father."
"Well, that explains a few things," Nesryn muttered.
The hair, the broad-planed face ... yes, it was the same. But where Aedion was fire, Gavriel seemed to be stone. Indeed, his eyes were solemn as he said, "Aedion is my pride." Emotion rippled over Aelin's face, but she gestured to the dark-haired male. Not someone Chaol ever wanted to tangle with, he decided as he surveyed the granite-hewn features, the black eyes and unsmiling mouth.
"Lorcan Salvaterre, formerly of Doranelle, and now a blood-sworn member of my court." As if that weren't a shock enough, Aelin winked at the imposing male. Lorcan scowled. "We're still in the adjustment period," she loudly whispered, and Yrene chuckled.
Lorcan Salvaterre. Chaol hadn't met the male this spring in Rifthold, but he'd heard all about him. That he'd been Maeve's most trusted commander, her most loyal and fierce warrior.
That he'd wanted to kill Aelin, hated Aelin.
How this had come about, why she was not in Terrasen with her army ... "You, too, have a tale to tell," Chaol said.
"Indeed I do." Aelin's eyes guttered, and Rowan put a hand on her lower back. Badâ something terrible had occurred. Chaol scanned Aelin for any hint of it. He stopped when he noticed the smoothness of the skin at her neck. The lack of scars. The missing scars on her hands, her palms. "Later," Aelin said softly. She straightened her shoulders, and another golden-haired male came forward. Beautiful. That was the only way to describe him. "Fenrys ... You know, I don't actually know your family name."
Fenrys threw a roguish wink at the queen.
"Moonbeam."
"It is not," Aelin hissed, choking on a laugh.
Fenrys laid a hand on his heart. "I am blood-sworn to you. Would I lie?"
Another blood-sworn Fae male in her court.
Across the tent, Sartaq cursed in his own tongue. As if he'd heard of Lorcan, and Gavriel, and Fenrys.
Aelin gave Fenrys a vulgar gesture that set Hasar chuckling, and faced the royals. "They're barely housebroken. Hardly fit for your fine company." Even Sartaq smiled at that. But it was to the small, delicate woman that Aelin now gestured. "And the only civilized member of my court, Lady Elide Lochan of Perranth." Perranth. Chaol had combed through the family trees of Terrasen just this winter, had seen the lists of so many royal households crossed out, victim to the conquest ten years ago.
Elide's name had been among them.
Another Terrasen royal who had managed to evade Adarlan's butchers.
The pretty young woman took a limping step forward, and bobbed a curtsy to the royals. Her boots concealed any sign of the source of the injury, but Yrene's attention shot right to her leg. Her ankle. "It's an honor to meet all of you," Elide said, her voice low and steady. Her dark eyes swept over them, cunning and clear. Like she could see beneath their skin and bones, to the souls beneath.
Aelin wiped her hands. "Well, that's over and done with," she announced, and strode to the desk and map. "Shall we discuss where you all plan to march once we beat the living shit out of this army?"

A Question Unasked
Written with season 1 Spencer in mind
Summary: In which your ambitious, workaholic nature makes Spencer wonder if you've got a crush on Hotch. This slight hitch in his plan causes him to miss a few signs.
[A/N]: Can be seen as a filler from Spencer's perspective of certain scenarios from "Mixed Messages" and a prequel to "As Cool As I Think I Am", but can also just be a standalone
Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem! (mentored by Hotch!) reader | cw: slight spoilers for s1e04, allusion to inappropriate workplace dynamics (it's not true, relax lol), slight description of canon-typical violence, mildly inaccurate timeframe | word count: 4k
Spencer looks up from his endless stacks of files on his desk to look at the girl on the other side of his desk. Only a single carpeted walkway really separating them.
He could easily just get up and walk right to her. Ask the burning question that's been on his mind since the Arizona case, but he can't.
Why is that?
He's been your friend for a while, and he's known you for a while longer.
With his eidetic memory, he remembers so clearly when you first started working together. He remembers your starched blazer and pressed blouse, a stark contrast to his swimming-in-sweaters look, and how that alone let anyone know that you were serious about uniform and protocol.
You were, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the prettiest girls he had ever seen, and a fresh graduate just like him.
You were smart, beautiful, and started working at the BAU as early as he did.
And because you were new and young, one of the senior agents had been assigned to supervise your progress. So much like how he was mentored by Gideon, you had been mentored by the unit chief himself; Aaron Hotchner.
He'd like to think that he learned a lot from Gideon. He wasn't the type to hold his hand throughout a case, which he is thankful for, but he had been there to encourage him to think more outside the box. To let his mind be more flexible and creative. To see things from every conceivable angle. Leaving no stone unturned.
He supposed you learned a lot from Hotch as well. With your calm exterior, polite demeanor, and calculating mind that occasionally colored your less polite vocabulary-- He didn't know what Aaron must've been like in his junior years, but he supposed that having you as his colleague was essentially the same experience.
What he does know, however, is how close you are to your boss. Or is it your work?
Either way, you being glued to your work almost always meant that you were glued to him by proxy. You two being the first ones in and the last ones out showed that you spent three-percent more of your time with each other than the rest of the team, and two-percent more than with him.
Granted that had changed as of late, but still!
That didn't leave him a lot of time to ask you if---
"Dr. Reid, if you keep staring at me, I don't think you'll be able to finish your action reports on time." You had said without lifting your eyes from your folder.
Having been caught, he cleared his throat with a small 'sorry,' and directed his head back down to his still endless stack of files. The action earning a couple of chuckles from the bullpen where the rest of your colleagues had certainly seen, or at least heard, the exchange.
Not long after however, he saw Hotch from the corner of his eye lean over the railing outside his office. Calling for you both to meet him inside with his usual stern expression.
Spencer noticed how you got up, eyes still zeroed in on one of your files, and continued on your way up and into the unit chief's open door.
A clear sign that you had been invited there often enough that you didn't need to see where you were going.
You expected it.
He sighs and makes his way into the office as well. Dreading what the meeting could even be for, though he's confident he hasn't done anything wrong.
***
"As you might have noticed in our previous cases, I've paired you two to work on the more analytical aspects of it together. With these changes, we've been able to work twice as fast, and weâre thankful for the help."
Whatever Spencer had been expecting, it was not this. His raised eyebrows evidently agreed with him.
It wasn't everyday that Hotch complimented someone like this, much less in the proper environment. And if your respectful posture, but shining eyes in slight pride were anything to go off of, this was something new for you too.
As he was about to voice his thoughts, you had spoken up.
"Sir, Dr. Reid's knowledge in a wide array of subjects has certainly helped with our investigations. Though I'm afraid I haven't done much aside from ensuring it's accuracy and-"
"No! I mean--," He looked to see you already looking at him in slight confusion before continuing.
"She's been a huge help so far and has allowed me to exchange ideas with her to build a more accurate profile. Not to mention that her ability to mediate between departments has been beneficial to gaining access to pertinent information! So I think she's done plenty for the investigations as well." His voice dwindles as he realizes he's rambling on praises and he suddenly feels warm under the scrutiny of both his boss and his colleague.
He just didn't want anyone thinking you weren't doing anything by being humble. Especially since you're both so young.
Thankfully, it's Hotch who speaks up again after a beat.
"So what I'm hearing is that you're both satisfied with this arrangement?"
You both nod carefully and he smiles a small smile at that.
"Then we'll be carrying on with this pairing into the foreseeable future. Should there be any concerns about this arrangement, see to it that it goes through me. We can't afford to lose either of you." He says it with a finality that prompts both Spencer and you to leave with a nod, but the thought is instantly corrected when he speaks again.
"Oh and agent?" He looks only at you, but Spencer looks back as well out of instinct. "A private word, if you please."
Spencer sees you nod without a second thought and he takes it as his cue to hurriedly leave.
***
It hasn't been that long, Spencer argues with himself, since he left the unit chief's office. The blinds aren't drawn, he would know since he'd been looking at them periodically, so he also knows that nothing untoward is happening.
Yet something is bothering him about it.
From his position on his desk, he can see you and Hotch discussing something on his table very seriously, but he also sees how your eyes rarely leave the face of your superior. He can't quite see your expression due to the distance and the light, but he has this sinking feeling that it's a lot like the one from earlier.
He scoffs at the thought. If he wasn't thinking so rationally, he would've thought-
"Does she like Hotch?"
"Who likes Hotch?"
The new voice makes him whip his head back so fast to see Morgan with a confused face. Upon further examination, he sees him holding something that was definitely supposed to be flicked at him if he hadn't been caught so off guard.
He internally debates to voice his opinion, but he does anyway.
"Do you think that she likes Hotch?" He gestures with his eyes to their supervisor's office.
"You're asking me if I think 'little miss perfect' has a crush on a man that's hitched?" Derek echoes back with the use of your nickname. One that he coined as a playful jab at your no-frills behavior.
Spencer cringes when he hears it back though. He didn't ask this to get you in trouble, but it might come across that way now.
"Who has a crush on married man?" Elle joins in, and he only shrinks into his seat more.
"I'm not asking if she has a crush on him! I just want to know if she might like him and--what it is that she likes about him..."
The two exchange looks before looking back at him. Fully knowing that that's not the reason why he's asking, but they humor him anyway.
"Reid, what makes you think she likes him and not literally anyone else?"
"Well. there's her preference for prolonged eye-contact, a common indicator of interest for one. Her being in constant proximity to him, a sign that shows comfort in certain contexts, and then there's the amount of time they spend together."
The last one might be a bit of a reach, considering how you all work in the same area, but at this point he just wanted someone to tell him that he was either absolutely right, or crazy.
"Kid, that's crazy."
Duly noted.
"I'll say.â Elle chuckles out her response. âI haven't thought about it all, but those signs don't really mean anything. It just sounds like she has a habit of looking at whoever's talking to her." She notes, sharing her experience of being on the receiving end of your rather intense gaze.
His other friend adds onto that.
"And the whole closeness thing? You've seen her, she's like a computer with the way she works. She's a workaholic. And Hotch is another. It's just math, Reid."
Spencer furrows his eyes at the man's statement but before he can ask further, he sees you coming out of the office and staring at the small crowd that has now formed at his desk.
"Is something going on here?" You ask with tense brows. Eyes flickering to and fro.
He couldn't really think of something on the spot, but thankfully Derek had one at the ready. "Was just caught trying add my stack on to pretty boy's plate."
He sees you let out a small 'hm,' and you eventually turn your back to them to reach your desk.
He sighs in relief as he feels a firm pat on his back from Morgan.
"Next time, try looking at what she does when you're the one talking." He says before leaving to go to his own desk as well.
Spencer doesn't know what good that would do, especially now that he's worried one of his colleagues have caught wind of him liking you, but he at least takes note of it.
--------
He does not, in fact, take note of it until very later.
The team had been called to San Diego to deal with someone they had been calling, "The Tommy Killer." An unsub that had a preference for gluing his victims' eyes open.
As they were reviewing the scene in the jet, they had noticed a few stanzas of a literary work had been left behind at the scene.
"It's a ballad from the late 1600s. A Dialogue Betwixt Death and a Lady." Spencer had mentioned from where he stood.
"A 17th Century ballad?" Morgan had asked him incredulously from his seat, but itâs you who answers.
"One where a woman tries to bribe Death with all that she has in exchange for a little more time to live. Naturally, he doesn't allow it. Claiming that she was undeserving of an exception that even kings were denied of."
Spencer looks up from his own copy to see you still looking at your own from beside Hotch. With your brows furrowing in thought, he almost sees the actual gears in your brain turning.
"So what, are we looking at a literature professor of some kind?" Elle asks which immediately perks him right up.
"Well, actually anyone with access to the internet today. You should see what comes up when you type in the word, "Death" into a search engine." He laughed absentmindedly.
"Reid, no wonder you can't get a date."
Morgan's words made him frown, but he brushes it off.
Hotch, as previously discussed, then called on for the both of you to look deeper into the messages. To see if there was anything new that could be inferred.
He nods at him, and looks up. Expecting you to still be looking at Hotch as well.
Instead, your eyes meet his, but you quickly look back onto your file.
Reid thinks it's just a coincidence.
***
"Creepy, huh?" JJ had asked you two as she approached where transcripts of the written messages were tacked onto a board.
Spencer had been focusing so hard that he was caught off gaurd by her sudden appearance. Fully expecting the area to just be for you and him so he told her what first came to mind.
"Actually, conversations between Death and his victims was a fairly popular literary and artistic theme throughout the Renaissance."
Though perhaps the delivery wasn't as as good as he thought it was as JJ only stared back at him with an unreadable expression.
He thought it was interesting, really, but he supposed his slight stutter and breathy laugh at the end must have distracted her from his point.
He turned to look at you for help, but you too had been focusing on the messages and wouldn't be available to do that. So he just agreed with JJâs sentiment, which seemed to be enough for her to leave.
He sighed out in relief.
"The lady never answers. Have you noticed it yet, Dr. Reid?" You turn to him as you ask.
He immediately refocuses on to the case and tries his best to reply after his prior blunder. "Oh uh-- Right, the dialogue in the ballad seems to be fractured. Well, it's more of a monologue than a dialogue seeing that there is no exchange of information."
A small smile graces your lips at that, and you gesture with a nod to go report your findings.
"So it is. Let's get going."
He follows you to where Hotch and Elle were discussing the sexual aspect of the crime and sees you take your place next to your mentor. The same position you were in when he was blowing out his birthday candles, as he also inserts himself into the discussion.
"Sir, we believe what the unsub has written at the scenes are most of the first three verses of the same ballad." You deliver, prompting your mentor to raise his brow at that.
"Most of?"
"Yeah, it's only one side of the conversation." Spencer adds. "There's no betwixt." He takes pride in your shared effort, which makes itself known by the smile that adorns his face.
Unfortunately, his satisfaction, isn't met with a positive reaction either as he sees Elle desperately trying not to make eye-contact, and your supervisor staring at him very pointedly.
He's thankful though at the little chuckle that you quickly try to hide behind a cough and a cover of your mouth to appear more professional. Quickly looking down at the ground.
He's happy that at least someone thought his joke was well-placed.
He continues to explain your theory about how the Lady in the narrative never answers, and that's enough for both Hotch and Elle to at least think about it.
Their attention is quickly stolen away however at an incoming call about a failed attempt nearby the precinct.
Quickly excusing themselves to get onto the scene as soon as possible, you see them call Gideon on their way out. Watching them as they leave the department doors.
But Spencer keeps his eyes on you as the thought just dawns on him.
You were the first one on the team to laugh at his jokes.
***
The more cases he works for the BAU, the more he realizes how much of his work isn't theoretical anymore. He feels it in the weariness in his eyes, the weight on his chest, and the shake of his hands.
Or maybe the shake is from the cold.
After all, he had dressed for the warm, California air. So now that he was in the cool, air-conditioned jet, he was seriously regretting not packing a sweater, at the very least.
He makes his way to the back of the aircraft after another successful investigation, and that's where sees you.
You had opted to shed your typically structured blazer on the seat beside you, leaving you in a softer blouse, both in color and form, that made everyone around you know that you were officially off duty.
It's a nice look on you, he thinks. A slight departure from your usually stern and hardened exterior. He wouldn't mind seeing a more relaxed version of you every once in a while.
A version of you that looked more your age and not constantly under the pressure of doing well.
He momentarily wonders if that's part of your mentor's influence as well.
He freezes a bit, as if catching himself in some depraved daydream, and takes a few steps back to return to the more vacant areas of the craft.
Before he can get any further though, you see him and beckon for him to come over with a tired wave of your hand.
"How's the flight treating you, Dr. Reid?" You ask, drowsiness lacing your tone as he sits on the seat opposite of you.
"Oh, it's the same as always, I guess. A little colder than usual, but that's to be expected. By the way, weâre actually lucky that we haven't experienced some semblance of turbulence yet on our flights, considering that the likelihood of it has increased by seventeen-percent in the last decade."
You laugh at that. "You really know just what to say, huh?"
He doesn't see it as funny as you do, so it seems. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you or--" "There's no need to apologize, sir. I find everything you have to say interesting, whether you mean it to or not."
He stays silent at that, suddenly nervous, and tries to make himself comfortable. He does so in the hopes that he can finally steel himself to ask you that question.
He talked to Elle earlier when they were waiting for the unsub's call. Asked her if she thought it was weird that he knew what he knew, and if it had anything to do with his inability to get a date. She had reasoned with him that it was because he didn't ask, but it couldn't be that simple, could it?
He mulls it over in his head before sighing. Opting to give up and just wait for a more opportune time.
Besides, juryâs still out that you could very well be pining over his boss.
The action, however, seems to remind you of something.
"Before I forget," You look into your baggage, rummaging around before finally finding what it was you were looking for.
You ask him to close his eyes, which he obediently does, and you place a thick rectangular box into his awaiting lap.
The sudden shift in weight causes his eyes to open, and he is certainly surprised to see what was on there.
"What is this?"
"It's your birthday. There wasn't a good time to give it to you, so might as well."
He takes the box into his hands and shakes it a little.
From the sound alone, or near lack thereof, there could be a multitude of things inside it. He looks at you questioningly and you only smile and gesture for him to open it.
He takes his time in doing so, and he doesn't know how or why, but he finds your reactions to his movements much more amusing than whatever could be in the box. As if you were more excited for him.
He finally peers into the now open box to see some sort of purple cloth. A ribbon of geometric designs cutting through its middle and he stares at it in wonder.
"It's a scarf!"
You smile at him, and he was thankful that the rest of the team were either asleep or just not paying attention as it allowed the both of you to savor the moment with at least some semblance of privacy.
"I've noticed that you had a tendency to wear a lot of layers. I wasn't sure if it was because you were cold, or you just liked dressing that way, so I made an educated guess and got you something practical."
And just like that, he's over the moon.
He immediately goes to put it on with a wide smile, paying no mind that it paired so badly with the short sleeves of his button up.
Not that he would know, nor care.
And just when he had been feeling cold earlier too! "Thank you so much. This means a lot to me, especially since you don't usually give gifts."
You shake your head. "I don't, but it's not everyday one spends their twenty-fourth at the BAU."
He continues to observe the cloth that now hung around him. Smoothing his hands over it as he does with an expression unreadable to you.
You worry a bit and hurriedly mention, "I'm sorry if it isn't your color. I see purple show up on your mismatched socks more than any other color, so I just assumed. If it's any consolation, purple is a great color to contrast the warmer hues in brown eyes?"
He flushes at your admission, but matches your urgency to set you straight. "No! Please, I actually really like it-- It's beautiful."
You breathe out a sigh in relief and nod slowly at that.
"Speaking of the color, did you know the origin of purple dye is actually quite fascinating?" His voice filled with enthusiasm. With his eyes, bright, and filled with a child-like fascination that makes your chest feel warm at the sight.
"Historically, purple dye was incredibly rare and valuable, which is why it became associated with royalty and nobility. The earliest known purple dye, known as Tyrian purple, was produced by the ancient Phoenicians around 1200 BC. It was derived from the secretions of a particular type of sea snail, the bolinus brandaris, found in the Mediterranean Sea."
He paused for a moment, wondering if he was boring you, but sees that you're still very much paying attention to him.
"The process to obtain this dye was incredibly labor-intensive and complex. It required thousands of these sea snails to produce just a small amount of dye. The snails would then be collected and left to decompose in large vats. After several days, a gland from the snail was extracted and crushed to produce a purple mucus. This mucus would then be exposed to sunlight, undergoing a chemical reaction that transformed it into the deep, rich purple dye we commonly associate with our modern day equivalent."
As he kept going, he suddenly remembered what Morgan had told him all those weeks ago.
"Next time, try looking at what she does when you're the one talking."
So he does just that.
He observes the way that your shoulders are more relaxed, how your eyes never stray from him, and how the small upturned curve of your lip makes itself known as you rest your cheek onto your propped up fist.
How he has your undivided attention and yet you don't even look the least bit bored of what he has to say. Only silently appreciating and subtly nodding along with the slow blink of your eyelids.
All clear signs of unguarded comfort, and or interest, in his presence.
Had you really been looking at him like that all this time?
Now the idea of you liking your boss seems silly. Especially when youâre looking at him the way he imagines himself looking at you.
"I did know that, actually, Dr. Reid. At the time, Tyrian purple wasn't only desirable for its rarity, people said it was also incredibly lightfast. That it was resistant to fading under the sun and the weather. Not to mention all that hard work that just to get a single gram of it. Then again, modern studies do claim that its lightfastness was, in fact, not an accurate feature as it's color diminished when it was exposed to light and UV radiation."
You laughed a little again, as if remembering some anecdote, and that sound was steadily becoming one of his favorite sounds. Following only after your speaking voice.
"Fortunately for you, doctor, I could only afford a synthetically purple-dyed scarf. Though that means that you won't ever have to worry about it fading under the sun."
Hands up in faux surrender, you give him a tired smile that he returns with one of his own.
A calming silence enveloped the both of you as you continue to bask in each other's presence.
At some point you doze off, draping your blazer on top of yourself to shield yourself from the cold, and that's when he starts considering Elle's words again.
"Do you ever ask anyone out?"
"No,"
"That's why you can't get a date."
He nods to himself, and reclines a little more into his seat. Snuggling into his new scarf that still has the faintest smell of you.
Maybe he will ask you out on a a date later.

Hi again đ You suggested i could send another prompt, sooo⊠maybe you & Jason have been together awhile, and youâre kidnapped by (choose your villain) and Jason is worried and frantic but trying to not show it of course, and negotiating for your safety? Ends up rescuing you of course, in whichever way you prefer, and then they find comfort in each-other đ
I havenât had time or energy to work on my WIP lately so this is very lovely and gratifying đđđ»đ
aghh that's the worst! wishing you luck on your wip!! i'm glad you like these <3 requests are open for jason, dick, and MAWS!clark kent btw!
this one is very batfam focused hehehe. ft dramatic ass jason and his surprise kidnapped fiancé lol.
jason todd x gn!reader. tw: violence, kidnapped reader, reader is pushed off a building for a moment but they're okay dw <3, batfam feels, jason being a protective bf, bruce being a GOOD DAD! c:
****
"Actually, if we're being honest, if anyone has the most trauma in this family, it'sâ"
Batman grunts. "Really, Spoiler, not now."
The comm line crackles as Stephanie sniffs. "Fine. Stay in denial."
"Bats."
Every bat and bird in Gotham goes still.
"Hood?" Barbara asks carefully, already tracking his comm link.
"Oracle," he says, clipped. "I'm gonna get right to it: I need a favor. Can you help? Yes or no."
"Little Wing, where have you been?" Dick asks. "We've allâ"
"Shut up, Nightwing," Jason growls. "Either you help me or not. Which is it?"
"We'll help you, Hood," Bruce says, voice washing over Jason like a balm.
Jason takes a deep breath. It's okay. He'll find you. Batman always beats the bad guys.
He fiddles with his jacket zipper. Moments tick by. Dick remains crouched on a rooftop. Damian is similarly poised.
"My..." Jason swallows. "My... fiancé's been taken."
The comm explodes with noise. Jason winces and digs the bud out of his ear for several seconds.
"Fiancé?!"
"You're getting marriedâ"
"When was thisâ"
"Who areâ"
"Enough," Jason growls, finally shoving the bud back into his ear. "I don't have fucking time for this. Yes, I am engaged, and they've been taken. No more questions."
"Tt. You are engaged? Impossible. Batman, clearly someone has hacked the line pretending to be Hood," Damian says, folding his arms.
Jason rolls his eyes. "Believe it or not, demon bird, I found someone crazy enough to marry me."
"Little Wing, IâI'm really proud ofâ"
"Shut up!" Jason pinches the bridge of his nose. This was a bad idea. You're in trouble, and Jason intends to tear Gotham apart to find you, but involving his family? Has he really stooped so low...
Deep breath. His focus is you. You're the only person that matters.
"Look, I'm telling you because Oracle's tracking me anyway, and B would snoop until he figured out who I'm really looking for, so it's easier to just tell you. But make no mistake: you aren't my family, and you won't see us again after tonight."
Bruce's throat tightens. His cape flutters in the wind.
"Very well," he says after a couple beats. "Last known location?"
"I'm sending you the address now. I've retraced my steps a hundred times though, and I can'tâ" Jason grits his teeth. He can't tear up or break things, not again. "Fuck. I can't fucking find them, B. I... I don't know if-if maybe I'm too lateâ"
"You're not," Dick says automatically. "We'll find them, Little Wing. We'll bring them home."
****
Your head is on fire.
It feels like there's a thousand needles pelting your skull. Whatever you were drugged with, it's hard stuff, and it hasn't worn away yet.
You look up; you're gagged and tied to some kind of support beam. As your vision clears, you see that you're in one of the new high rise-in-progress. Only the skeleton of the building has been completed because if Bruce Wayne isn't involved, construction takes forever to complete.
Faintly, you recall Jason mentioning something about a construction company leaving half finished projects across the country and using them as havens for criminal activities.
Yeah. This is not good.
"Where the fuck is he?" The voice echoes across the concrete floor foundation.
"Mike, we sentâ"
"I don't give a fuck what you did; obviously, you screwed up! He's not coming!"
You close your eyes, trying not to throw up on your gag. Your head spins when you open your eyes again.
Who's not coming? Your rescuer? Or somebody worse than your kidnappers?
You try to take a deep breath, but your chest tightens instead.
"Fine," Mike barks in the adjacent room. "If that hooded psychopath doesn't show up, we'll just dump this one. That'll send a message. Prepare the explosives."
A door swings open, and you flinch. You cower, shrinking from the figure.
"You better hope he shows," the guy growls, and cocks his gun. "Your boyfriend is the only reason you're still alive. It'll be such fun to watch him fall to his death, don't you think?"
You try not to show your swelling panic. How does he know about you and Jason? And you have to warn him. Explosives. Jason's walking straight into a trap, without backup, because you know he'll be alone. He always works alone.
Mike sneers and waves the gun around.
"Oh, yeah. I know your secrets. In bed with Gotham's biggest crime lord. You must be his favorite. I can see why."
"Mike!" someone shouts. "We got company!"
Mike's eyes blaze cruelly. "Showtime. You're coming with me."
You thrash as hard as you can because if there's one thing Jason taught you, it's to always fight back.
Mike backhands you hard enough to send you sprawling. Your hands are bound, so you can't catch yourself, and you hit your head on the concrete. Blood pools in your gums.
"Try that shit again, bitch," he snarls, and hefts you up.
He drags you up a flight of stairs. Your head throbs, and now your jaw aches. You're too dizzy to try to fight back again.
You end up on the roof, which is a miasma of beams and wooden lattices. Wind cuts through your face, and you close your eyes so they don't water.
"Hood!" Mike crows. "Wonderful of you to join us!"
"Wish I could say the same," Jason says, and your heart leaps at the sound of his voice.
You start to shout through your gag because you have to warn him. It's a trap, he'll kill you bothâ
Mike wraps his arm around your throat and squeezes. Air stops, and you choke on your cries.
"I'll kill you," Jason snarls, and you know he wants to say more, but he's trying to protect you. "Let them go and maybe I won't break every bone in your body."
"Oh, don't worry. You two will be reunited soon. What is it they say? Love blinds you?"
"Michael Cassidy," a new voice says, deep and deadly. "Let go of the hostage. We can talk this out."
You crack open your eyes. Is that... Batman? And Robin? And... Nightwing? Whatâ
The arm around your throat tightens and you gasp for air as you start to choke for real. Oh God. Batman's going to die because of you.
"You involved Batman?" Mike snarls, now truly irate. You feel yourself being dragged backward, toward the edge. Your stomach rolls in warning.
"Take it easy," Batman says, palms up. "We can work this out."
"You can't play fair?" Mike shouts. "Then neither will I!"
The wood beneath your feet is gone. You're falling.
"No!"
But no sooner than you fall are you caught. Warm arms encircle your waist, and you're jerked to a stop before you can fall more than a few feet.
"I got you, baby, I got you."
Jason is connected to a grapple. At the roof edge is Batman, Nightwing, and Spoiler, all holding the grapple.
You shake your head, screaming against your gag. Bomb. Bomb!
"'S alright, 's alright, sweetheart, I won't drop you."
You scream urgently through your gag, butting your head against his helmet. Jason pulls your gag half free and you choke out the warning.
"B-bomb!"
His grip tightens. "Shit. B, get out of here! Place is rigged to blow!"
The first explosion goes off. Jason meets your gaze. He's terrified, you can tell, but he tries to mask it.
"Let go," he says.
"Whâ"
"He'll catch you," Jason promises. "I trust him."
And then he lets go.
Several more explosions go off. The building begins to crumble. Dust and heat sweep across your face and lodge in your already sore throat. You scream, in the air for a few more seconds.
Then you crash into gray body armor. A cowl, a cape.
"It's alright," Batman gruffly says. "Hold on tight."
Batman swings you both to safety on an adjacent rooftop. You watch him dive back into the flames. It isn't long before Jason swings out of the smoke, then the others. He pulls off his helmet and tosses it to the side, arms open.
You run and bury your face in Jason's neck, clinging to him. He hugs your tightly and rubs your back, saying over and over, I got you.
You sigh and slacken out of exhaustion.
"I've got you, baby," he says, though his voice is wet this time. "You're safe."
Jason checks over your wounds. You see the rage cross his face several times at every bruise and cut on you. He doesn't let go of you even after he's done. He's shaking too, perhaps more than you, as he cuts your binds and completely removes your gag.
The Bats land gracefully behind you. Jason stiffens as they do.
You kiss his jaw. His gaze returns to you.
"You saved me," you say.
"I always will," he says. "Always."
"Are either of you injured?"
Batman suddenly swishes to your side. You blink, startled.
"Nothing serious," you say. Jason grunts unhappily at that. You manage a smile. "Thank you. All of you. Thank you so much."
Jason nods stiffly. "Thanks, Bats."
Nightwing smiles, face soft with affection. "'Course, Hood. And, uh, Hood's fiancé. We're there any time you need us."
"That's right, chum," Batman says. The obvious care in his voice makes you ache.
Jason had called his family. His family with whom he has a plethora of problems. He'd called them for you.
"Jay," you say, voice thick with emotion. He seems to understand instantly.
"I'll always bring you home," he vows, cupping your face. "Whatever it takes."
He pulls you to him like he can't bear to be away from you any longer.
You squeeze his wrists. "I know. It's okay, Jay. I'm okay."
Out of the corner of your eye, you see that the Bats still have not dispersed. Spoiler looks like she's about to melt into a puddle. Nightwing is the same. Even Batman looks a little sentimental.
Robin is the only one scowling, tapping his foot impatiently.
"Hood, are you not going to introduce your fiance-we-just-learned-existed-tonight?" Robin asks, arms folded.
Jason huffs. "Not with those manners, demon brat."
You roll your eyes and extend your hand to Batman. You say your name, smiling.
"It's an honor to meet you, sir," you say.
Batman laughs, and it sounds a little fond. It's also kind of weird to hear Batman laugh. "No sir necessary. It's equally an honor to meet the person my son is marrying."
Jason makes a choked little noise. You beam.
"Well," Batman murmurs. "We'll let you two get home. We'll track down the rest of Michael's thugsâ"
"Come to the wedding," Jason blurts.
Batman stills. "Me?" he asks carefully.
"Everybody," Jason says, tugging you into his side. "Uncle Clark, Aunt Diana, Selina, your ten thousand kids, everyone."
He turns to you. "I-I mean, as long as that's okay with you, baby."
"Oh, Jay. It's your family. Of course I want them to come." You lean in to whisper in his ear. "I'm proud of you."
"Little Wing, c'mere!"
Nightwing tackles Jason in a hug, then drags Robin, who protests loudly, in by his cape. Spoiler snaps a picture from the sideline.
"Now that's adorable," she says.
Batman looks at you. He removes his cowl, and you gasp quietly. He smiles, and it makes him look decades younger. You guess he hasn't smiled much since he lost Jason.
"Thank you," he says.
You tilt your head. "For what?"
"For bringing him back to us."
You duck your head. "Oh, Mr. Wayne, that wasn't meâ"
"Bruce," he corrects gently. "And it was. You played a bigger part than you know. You saved him. Thank you."

re: my thoughts on laiosâs sexuality (long post ahead lol)
let me start this post with this. first, this contains a lot of references to the new adventurerâs bible world guide book released last february. i can read japanese, but iâm sure theyâre translated somewhere. general spoiler warning in case. also⊠i am ESL, so sorry for any grammar errors
second, if youâre on the team that insists laios doesnât care about humans enough to form relationships, either read the manga again or at the very least read this thread.
last, please donât chime in with your acearo headcanons on this post. thereâs already a majority of posts here that insist laios is acearo and that anything else is impossible. i donât like it the same way i donât like when someone declares they hc marcille as bisexual to a poster who reads her as lesbian. i already have enough people here who declare heâs ace on my own art. at least people on twitter of all places donât do this sort of thing to me. nothing in this manga is canon, you can headcanon anything i wonât get mad if you hc him as bi or something. just. donât be weird on my post.
okay. trust me, i love women, and i love the idea of making my favs women lovers but the idea of laios being gay really appeals to me because of his background. this isnât fueled by yaoi since i donât even ship the only m/m relationship i bring up here, i just think it adds a nice layer to his disconnect with his own humanity
i do think laios has a very abstract relationship with his sexuality for a multitude of reasons. he grew up in a very conservative backwater village. he has a hard time recognizing his own feelings towards others just as much as vice versa. i donât really care for the âlaios is a monsterfuckerâ agenda people are pushing but i do think heâd engage in sexual thoughts in his own weird way, i wonât deny his deviantart fetish shit
as an autistic person myself, i relate to how heâd prioritize his special interest over social interactions. after all, he was fixated on monster food so heâs distracted from dark thoughts. heâs not an actual glutton
heâs shy around women, but i donât think itâs out of attraction. i just think itâs because heâs awkward and doesnât want to be seen as a threat. thereâs a couple of times when, out of armor, he deliberately tries to make himself look smaller and nonthreatening.
he didnât show any interest towards ashivia (the hubby hunter girl marcille replaced) and just humored her because she wouldnât leave him alone. his other party members thought he was giving her special treatment so he had to tell her he âdoesnt want to give her special treatment anymoreâ(even though he never did), so she left
ashivia did her best to butter herself up to laios and he didnât care, but laios thought shuro was his bestest friend in the whole world because he was too much of a pushover to reject him. ironically⊠what ashivia did to him parallels what he was doing to shuro
also⊠yeah sorry i keep bringing up that one comic of laios saying if he were falin heâd marry shuro and then begging him to take him back to his country, or that comic of laios wondering why he doesnât like him(and then the first two questions he asks the magic mirror was what if he or shuro were women). i donât even ship them! but itâs not a reach to assume that he likes men because of this, even if itâs kinda played like a joke(after all,a lot of people like chilshi even though their âshippyâ interaction was played as a joke)
of course, given the setting, i donât think knows heâs gay, he wouldnât have the vocabulary to label himself. i do want to dance around with the idea of him forcibly confronting his own sexuality after years of yaad pressuring him to produce heirs lol. laios might not be cishet but heâs a king so he rdgaf about that right now. iâm open to him having female consorts for political reasons, but i donât think heâs into women, is all.
before anyone brings up his succubus⊠god forbid an author makes hetbait. a part of the plot twist was that not-marcille wasnât the only succubus enticing laios, his other party members were copied too. she was the only one who approached him. also⊠succubi arenât always inherently romantic. once it realized marcille didnât work, it switched to appeal to his desire to be a monster.
#laios isnât even in my top 3 fav but i gotta throw this out to the void#dungeon meshi meta#laios touden#dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi spoilers#kabru sexuality is easy cuz that dude is capital B Bisexual but laios has layers to it i feel

Even though I prefer to wait until TWST events reach the ENG server before writing anything for them, I just couldn't help myself when it comes to my Yuu's first meeting with Skully cause I just love him, and I really wanted to give writing him a try.
There are spoilers for the new JPN Halloween event underneath the cut, so if you don't want to be spoiled, I'd recommend not reading this, although I'm not strictly following what happened with Skully & Yuu's first meeting in the event since I wanted to put my own spin on it.
Also, I purposely avoided bringing attention to the event outfits here since my Yuu's event outfit hasn't been decided yet, so I'll just say Yuu focuses on her and Skully's clothes after this scene lol
Lastly, for those not familiar with my writing, my Yuu is female, so if that's not your preference, you probably won't wanna read this.
For those who do decide to read this, I hope you'll enjoy it! đđ
When you regain consciousness, itâs to the sound of an unfamiliar voice calling out to you.
âHello..? Hello, my dear? Lovely lady sleeping in my arms?â
Upon hearing that voice, your groggy mind immediately focuses on the incredibly warm, gentle tone the unknown speaker uses when addressing you, which youâre unaccustomed to hearing thanks to the kind of upbringing you had and the kind of people you currently go to school with.
Seconds after that voice pierces through the haze thatâs currently clouding your mind, you finally register the fact that someone is holding you in their arms, keeping you safely and comfortably secure against their chest.
âCan you hear my voice?âÂ
Once again, the unfamiliar voice addresses you, and at the same time, you feel a long, slender gloved finger brush against your cheek with a tenderness that surprises you.
Just who is this person?
And why do they sound genuinely concerned on your behalf? Why is everything about them so gentle?
âHey, my dear, please, open your eyes for meâŠâ
Upon hearing that request, you finally pry your heavy eyelids apart, so you can finally get some answers to the questions currently swirling around your groggy mind.
After blinking several times to clear your blurry vision, you take in the sight of a handsome, white-haired boy, who appears to be around your age, judging from his young face.
Just after your eyes open, the mysterious stranger beams, âThank goodness, youâre awake!â
For a moment, all you can do is stare at that charming smile, which looks genuine from your perspective. That and the obvious relief in his voice, which doesnât in any way sound forced, make you think that he really has been worried about you.
After taking a moment to scrutinize the sincerity of that smile, your eyes drift upwards and focus on the boyâs sunglasses, whose dark, circular lenses are completely hiding his eyes from view.
You have to fight the urge to click your tongue upon seeing those sunglasses since his eyes being hidden will make it difficult for you to properly read his expressions, which is why you never liked dealing with the people in Japanâs underworld who wore this type of eyewear specifically because they wanted to make themselves hard to read.
Ironically enough, just after the topic of his eyes occupies your thoughts, the still smiling stranger brings his face dangerously close to yours, making you think he really has no concept of personal space, considering heâs doing something like this and had no qualms about holding you while you were unconscious.
âOh my, what dazzling eyes you have, my dear. They are just as lovely as you are. I am overjoyed to finally be able to see them at long last.â
Strangely enough, rather than have the immediate impulse to hit him, like what would normally happen under circumstances like these, you find yourself feeling only amused, perhaps because this boy reminds you a lot of Rook, whose eccentricities youâve grown quite accustomed to these last several months.
Of course, it also helps that your instincts are telling you that this person isnât a threat to you, and youâre always inclined to believe them since theyâve never lied to you before.
Thatâs why, rather than push this stranger away, you decide to take advantage of this perfect opportunity that he just unintentionally provided you.
Faster than he can react, you grab his sunglasses and move them upwards, allowing you a clear view of his wide, red eyes, whose pupils have a cool, concentric pattern.
A smirk rises to your lips. âIf youâre gonna check out my eyes, itâs only fair you let me do the same.â
After moving his sunglasses to rest on the top of his head, you find yourself pausing after your eyes focus on the diamond-shaped patches of black hair that are now located directly beneath the sunglasses.
It kinda looks like a faceâŠa very familiar face at that. You note. Although, I canât remember why it looks so familiar to meâŠ
Since there are more important matters that you need to attend to right now, you quickly shelve those thoughts, with the intention of going back to them later.
Quickly, you refocus your gaze on the face of the stranger, whose arms you woke up in, and firmly take hold of his chin, so you can keep him from moving his face away from yours since this close proximity will make it all the more easier for you to read his expressions.
Your earlier smirk returns when the mysterious boy becomes noticeably flustered, making you believe heâs not used to getting a taste of his own medicine. âNow, letâs have a little Q & A, Mr. Up Close And Personal, so I can decide what to do with you.âÂ
Giving the befuddled boy no chance to refuse, you ask, âAlright, the first and most important question is: Why did you decide to pull an unconscious girl into your lap? Sure, I can get wanting to wake me after finding me in such a state, but was that all really necessary?â
Rather than appear apprehensive upon being on the receiving end of your piercing, judgmental stare, the mysterious stranger, who appears genuinely surprised by your question, frowns, âObviously, I could not allow a lovely lady such as yourself to remain on the cold, hard ground! I wouldnât be able to call myself a gentleman otherwise!â
Because you can tell that heâs not lying thanks to the obvious sincerity in his eyes and voice, some of the tension in your frame eases as your gaze somewhat softens. âHeh, good answer. While not every girl would accept it, considering the circumstances, I will since I can tell you had good intentions, although I would still advise not trying something like this with any other girls since most girls would understandably hit first and ask questions later.â
Judging from his puzzled expression, this boy truly has no idea why a girl would react in such a manner, giving you the impression that he can be rather oblivious when it comes to the effects his actions have on others.Â
Rather than try to explain things to him, you move onto your next two questions. âSecond and third questions: Who are you, and how did you end up here with me?â
Much to your amusement, rather than appear bothered by your interrogation, the white-haired boy, whoâs once again smiling and has seemingly forgotten his earlier embarrassment, cheerfully answers, âMy name is Skully J. Graves. Itâs nice to meet you!â
âAs to how I ended up here with you, I stumbled upon your unconscious form by chance after I woke up in this unfamiliar place.â He continues, âIâm afraid I canât provide any further information since I am just as confused as you must feel about these strange circumstances weâre both now facing.â
The corners of your lips dip downward. Heâs not lying about finding me by chance, but I get the feeling heâs not being completely forthright with me about how he ended up here.
Itâs possible he just doesnât remember how he got here since my mind was rather hazy when I first woke up, although my memories of what happened with the crazy book that Grim opened at the used book fair are starting to come back to me. You think to yourself. He may think I wonât believe him if he claims to not remember how he got here, or he simply wants to avoid saying anything that may make him look suspicious.
âOh, yes, I almost forgot!â Skully exclaims, successfully drawing you away from your thoughts. âHow careless of me!â
His concerned eyes peer into yours. âHow are you feeling? Are you hurt anywhere, my dear?â
Upon seeing that heâs genuinely concerned about you, your expression softens. While I get the feeling that thereâs more than meets the eye with this guy, I can tell heâs not a bad person at heart. A bad person wouldnât be so kind and gentle toward me, especially not while Iâm interrogating them.
While this doesnât necessarily mean Skully can be trusted, you can at least give him the benefit of the doubt and be open to the idea of eventually trusting him after getting to know him better.
I would still like to get some more info outta him, especially in regards to how he ended up in this place like me, but itâd probably be better if I space out my questions rather than bombard him with them all at once. You muse. While heâs been pretty accommodating thus far, that might change if I start asking questions that make him uncomfortable, and Iâd rather avoid causing any kind of conflict right now when Iâve got other more important things to worry about.
Rather than continue interrogating him, itâd be better to just wait and ask more questions later on once Skully has become more comfortable with you, or even better, if you bide your time, you may glean new information from him that he willingly provides without you even needing to ask since he seems like a talkative kind of guy.
Thatâs why you finally release your hold on his chin, surprising him, since itâs really for the best that you quit giving him the third-degree, especially when the boy hasnât even technically done anything wrong yet. âYes, Iâm fine. Thank you for asking, erâŠâ
Realizing you donât know if Skully is someone you need to be more formal with like your upperclassmen or if heâs the same age as you, you ask, âHow old are you? I canât tell if youâre older than me or not, so Iâm not sure how I should address you. Iâm sixteen, by the way.â
Appearing noticeably pleased, Skully eagerly replies, âI am also sixteen! How wonderful to make a new friend who is the same age as me!â
âAnd you may address me however you please!â He adds, âI will be overjoyed regardless because such a lovely lady is calling me by name!â
The corners of your lips quirk upwards at his cute response. âYouâre quite the charmer, huh? I like that. Itâs rather refreshing, considering how most guys my age act.â
âAlright, considering you have no preference, Iâll just call you Skully and not worry about any formalities, like what I do with my other friends our age.â You add.
Your smile grows. âSince Iâve gotten enough info to satisfy myself for the time being, Iâll put an end to my little interrogation and introduce myself. My name is Yuu. Itâs nice to meet you, Skully.â
Skully beams, âWhat a lovely name! Iâm so glad to meet you, Yuu-san!â
Catching you by surprise, Skully gently takes hold of your hand and tenderly kisses your knuckles. âI thank you for this wonderful encounter.â
Once you overcome your surprise, your expression becomes amused. He did call himself a gentleman earlier, so I guess I shouldâve seen this coming, especially with his formal, old-fashioned way of speaking. Heâs just like the gentlemen characters you see on TV.
Luckily for him, youâve always been fond of those types of characters, so you think the two of you will get along just fine.
Plus, itâs not everyday you meet someone this sweet and gentlemanly thanks to the kind of people you normally hang out with, so you want to make the most of this opportunity to get along with this somewhat odd yet still quite endearing boy.
A grin rises to your lips. Most importantly, when a boy acts this cute, it makes me wanna spend more time with him and look for opportunities to tease him to see if heâll give me some equally adorable reactions.
That's why you decide to have a little fun by shifting your hand thatâs currently still being held, so you can gently grab Skullyâs, surprising him.
Giving him no chance to react, you bring his hand close to your mouth and tenderly kiss his knuckles, mirroring his previous actions, all the while channeling the princely charm Cater always has you show off for your fans on Magicam. âLikewise, handsome.â
Much to your delight, Skully instantly becomes incredibly flustered because of your actions - to the point his blush covers the majority of his face, making you think this is the first time someone has ever done something like this to him.
Even better, after you release your hold on his hand, Skully, who has apparently been rendered speechless, considering how quiet he now is, uses both of his hands to cup his incredibly flushed cheeks, making him look even more adorable.
Your grin grows at the incredibly endearing sight. Looks like he's the type who gets super flustered when flirted with, like Deuce and Sebek. How adorable. Iâm definitely gonna have some fun with this boy. Hehe~
Regrettably, you donât get to enjoy this moment for very long, because, seconds after you recall how Deuce and Sebek usually react to your playful flirting, you finally realize that something is missing here.
Or rather, some people.
Wide-eyed, you immediately turn to look around and realize that the only people in the surrounding area, which consists of a barren forest that stretches out as far as the eye can see, are you and Skully. âWait a minute! Where are my friends?!â
I canât believe I let myself get so distracted that I totally forgot about the others! You internally scream. Iâm a horrible mother! Where are my sons?!
As you panickily try to climb out of Skullyâs lap so you can start a search for Grim and the others, the white-haired boy catches you off guard when he suddenly rises to his feet and takes you along for the ride.
Once on his feet, Skully gently sets you down, so you can stand on your own. âThere you are, Yuu-san. Now, what was that about âfriendsâ? Did you not come here alone like myself?â
Rather than answer his question, all you can do is stare at this boy whoâs now towering over you like a lanky giant. Holy shit. Heâs tall. I had figured he would be a tall boy just from how he was hunched over me earlier, but I was not expecting him to be this big. He may be even taller than Jack and Tsunotaro!
Skully curiously tilts his head when you fail to answer his question. âYuu-san? Are you alright?â
Realizing this is not the time for gaping like an idiot, you give yourself a quick mental shake before replying, âYeah, sorry. I was just surprised by how tall you are. I have some friends our age who are tall, but Iâm pretty sure youâre even bigger than them, which seriously amazes me.â
âAnyway, to answer your question, yes, I should have some friends with me here since they were all with me right before I ended up in this weird place.â You continue, âWhile itâs possible Iâm the only one who ended up in this crazy predicament, I find it unlikely, considering how close some of them were to me when I got enveloped by the weird magic that brought me here.â
Much to your amusement, mere seconds after those words leave your mouth, you hear some incoherent screaming coming from the distance, and you immediately recognize that voice as belonging to Sebek since you'd know that booming voice anywhere.
Thankfully, the screaming you hear isnât the kind that indicates Sebek is scared or in trouble, so more than likely, heâs just freaking out about his current circumstances and/or your absence.Â
Your shoulders slump with relief when you hear your sonâs voice. âSpeaking of my giant friends, that voice belongs to one of them. Thank goodness. At least, now, I know where I need to go.â
âWould you like to go with me, Skully?â You ask, âIâd hate to leave you on your own, and weâll have a higher chance of getting out of this mess weâre in if we work together.â
Skully beams, âI would be more than happy to accompany you! Thank you for your kind invitation!â
With that settled, you turn to face the direction that Sebekâs screaming came from, but before you can start walking, Skully surprises you when he quickly moves to stand in front of you.
Before you can question his actions, Skully gracefully bows before offering you a hand, smiling all the while. âPlease allow me to be your escort.â
Since you see no harm in it and it would be nice to have a hand to hold onto while youâre walking through this somewhat creepy forest, you reach out and take his proffered hand. âAlright, thank you. Do you know your way around this forest, Skully?â
He shakes his head. âNo, unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with this forest like you.â
Grinning, Skully asks, âBut donât you think itâs a wonderful experience to wander hand-in-hand in a mysterious forest?â
His question makes you giggle. What a romantic. Skully just keeps getting more and more entertaining the longer I talk to him.
After you rein in your amusement, you warmly smile, âHolding hands definitely would make this situation better, so Iâm fine with walking like this.â
Plus, someone, whoâs as touch-starved as you, would never turn down the opportunity to hold hands with someone, just as long as you know that person isnât dangerous, of course.
You squeeze Skullyâs hand. And I canât turn down a request from someone who seems to be as touch-starved as me, considering his past actions remind me a lot of how I typically act around my friends, not when I know hand-holding will make both of us equally happy.
For a moment, Skully just stares at you in surprise, or at least, youâre assuming heâs surprised since you can no longer see his full face thanks to his sunglasses, which he returned to their rightful place after he helped you to your feet earlier.
His reaction further convinces you that your hunch about him being touch-starved is right since he really seems very unaccustomed to someone willingly accepting his touch.
Just like how you were before you came to NRCâŠ.
Once he overcomes his surprise, Skullyâs earlier cheerfulness returns with a vengeance as he happily replies, âLet us be off then! I look forward to meeting all of your companions, whom Iâm sure are just as lovely as you!â
Unfortunately, I doubt theyâll be excited to meet you when we show up, and they see you holding my hand. You wryly think to yourself.Â
And, of course, you were exactly right.

Okay okay, SO letâs talk about the latest chapter of Iruma kun because the lore is JUICY. Spoilers for chapter 358. This also leaves me with even more questions while answering some I had before. So I actually had a post planned where I was going to ask why Delkira received a special and sublime classroom to begin with. I wondered if maybe he was a previous demon kingâs son and maybe that was why he was already revered. But NOPE it seems not likely. Itâs still possible, I just got the vibe was that he was miraculous in his achievements and power. So it kind of answers that question but we still have no info on his family, the kingâs classroom, or how he was able to achieve so much. On the other hand we got some VERY VERY interesting lore on Mephisto-pheles. It also explains why he gave this task to Iruma since he obviously sees the potential for him to surpass Delkira in the future. He wants Iruma to know what it takes to be in power, somewhat as an advisor role like he has been for previous kings. By assisting a king you can understand how to rule. And by building up a country, you can know what it takes to lead a country. I already guessed that since he was already interested in Iruma. But this just adds an extra layer to why he is as fascinated by him as he is. GOD NISHI IS SO GOOD AT WRITING LORE. I ASPIRE to write something with as much depth and intricacies as this manga. She is my inspiration truly đđœ
Like, look at Mephistoâs face here compared to after he met Iruma. Different face but same vibe.
Now, going back to Delkira one, we get to see more of his personality and heâs so much like Iruma!!!!! No wonder everyone and their fucking mom keeps being like, âdamn why tf do I see Delkira in him.â Neither strive for power for powerâs sake, instead they strive for power because they see it as a step forward in their goal and desires. They both want to find their own path rather than it just being given to them. It really shocked me at first that Delkira turned Mephisto down but it actually makes so much sense why everyone is enamored by him. That is the most undemon like thing he could have done, he had the perfect opportunity to gain all the power in the world in a quick and easy way. Any other demon would have killed for that chance. They are so fucking alike and it makes me want to rage. I love it so much, I love that we are getting to see more of him as time goes on. Him and Iruma even have the same smile! Like come on.
He even has similar jesters to Iruma!!!! This flashback is making me rethink my theories about him and his connection to Iruma. Ughhhh, Iâm so fucking happy about this. Also, this nothing to do with anything but look at Delkiraâs cunty lil outfit. This sheer shirt? Rolled up uniform jacket he has popped open. These tight pants with a weird belt design? I would be Delkiraâs number one supporter is all Iâm saying. Heâs babygirl just like Iruma. Maybe thatâs the requirement to be the next powerful demon king, you have to serve mother fucking CUNT if you want to rule. Anyway, I think there was more I wanted to say but I got distracted with my rant lol. I just love this lore so much, I love how Nishi handles lore drops (especially with characters) and seeing more of Delkira because I am so fascinated with him and must know more.
#image description in alt#I hope I did well with the alt text Iâm still practicing. also harder with manga screenshots#but I hope yâall like this unhinged rant#I am obsessed with the Delkira I want to know everything about him#every time we get to see him I gain more power#< true fact#mairimashita iruma kun spoilers#mairimashita! iruma kun#welcome to demon school iruma kun#m!ik#iruma-kun#mairuma#suzuki iruma#iruma suzuki#Delkira#derkila

Join us as we delve into the personal and poignant, revealing the human stories behind the headlines and the remarkable journey of Natasha and Reader in their serene, hidden haven
***********
As I step into the living room of Natasha Romanoff and y/n, Iâm immediately struck by the serene atmosphere that contrasts sharply with their high-profile pasts and celebrity. The space is meticulously curated, with soft hues and tasteful decor creating an environment that feels both intimate and inviting. All around us, there are subtle hints of their life with children, including the American Girl doll seated directly in front of me.
Natasha and y/n are seated on a large, comfortable sectional sofa, their closeness evident yet subtly restrained. They are dressed in coordinating outfitsâNatasha in a sleek navy blouse and dark jeans, y/n in a navy dress that complements Natashaâs attire without matching exactly. Itâs an understated coordination that feels more like an effortless choice rather than a deliberate statement.
They sit close enough to show their connection but maintain just enough space to breathe. Natashaâs posture is upright, her demeanor calm but attentive, while y/n exudes a quiet, steady presence beside her. Thereâs a natural ease in their interaction, a palpable mutual respect.
I take my seat across from them, feeling the gentle shift in the roomâs energy as I prepare to dive into the questions. With a quick glance at my notes and a brief check of my recorder, I open the conversation. "First of all, I want to start off by saying thank you for accepting Time Magazine's interview request. It's a pleasure being able to be in your presence and get to know you a little more. Can I ask what made you think this was finally the time to do a sit-down interview?"
"Thank you. You're welcome. It's critical that we show our children how important the truth is and the importance of telling it," Natasha says, her gaze unwavering. "We felt that, now, after everything, it was the right time. I am being honored for my transformation and redemption so of course I wanted everything to be in my words."
Y/n smiles, nodding her head as she turns to face me. "We've always been open and honest with our kids about who we are. We didn't want to have some magazine or journalist telling them something about us that was untrue, so we figured why not do it ourselves."
"The last few years have been... a lot," Natasha adds, her voice softening slightly. "We've had some ups and downs, and we thought it would be a good way to tell our side of the story."
"That's wonderful and I definitely agree with getting your side of things out there," I say. "How did you two first meet, and what drew you to each other despite your very different backgrounds?"
"We met in a coffee shop actually," Y/n begins with a subtle smile. "It was about thirteen years ago give or take a year. I was sitting and studying for a law exam. I was in law school at the time. Natasha frequented the coffee shop but I never noticed her until one day I decided to look up and there she was. She caught my attention immediately. We didn't speak until the next time she'd come in and sat at my table. I was her cover."
Natasha nodded her head with a smirk. "I was on a mission and I had to use her. I was supposed to be subtle but I wasn't and I got made. So I sat with her to pretend to study and the rest is history."
"What do you mean by 'the rest is history'?"
"After she'd realized I wasn't going to hurt her, which was obvious because she was a civilian, we began to talk and we just hit it off," Natasha explained.
"She was the most interesting person I'd ever spoken to. She was different, a breath of fresh air," Y/n said. "It was an immediate connection."
"So you've always felt this instant connection between you?" I asked.
"Yes," Natasha responded. "From the moment we met, there was something special between us."
"We both knew it was more than just a physical attraction. There was an instant emotional connection as well," Y/n added.
"What would you say is the biggest challenge of being married to someone who's faced the kinds of hardships and challenges you've faced, y/n? You're a lawyer. How has it affected you both to be on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the law?"
"It's been difficult," Y/n started, her hand sliding closer to Natasha's. "I've had to watch her go through a lot. The media portrayed her as this monster, but they don't know her. Of course, I don't make excuses or ignore what's in her past. I'm not a person that can simply weigh in on someone's life when it was basically laid out for her."
"There were times that I thought I wouldn't come home to her, but I was lucky enough that she's seen past all of that," Natasha explained.
"She's done a lot of work on herself, and she's changed so much."
"Which brings me to our next question, In what ways has your relationship evolved since you first started dating?"
"We're still best friends," Y/n replied, looking over at Natasha with a soft smile. "Our relationship is stronger than ever. I'd like to think that we've grown up together, and that's been a great gift."
"I agree," Natasha said, returning her smile. "Our relationship is still growing and changing, but I think that's normal and healthy. We've gone through a lot, and we've grown together."
"What are some of the biggest challenges youâve faced together, and how have you overcome them? Within reason of course," I assured them there was no need to get too personal if it wasn't necessary to the conversation.
"Well, we've lost a child, my best friend too," Y/n said.
"It's been a lot of trial and error," Natasha stated.
"There are ups and downs with every relationship. It's a journey, and it's about figuring out how to grow and evolve together," y/n explained. "So in the beginning we were both these strong women who didn't really understand the magnitude of what our love meant. So we struggled a lot. I'd like to think we figured things out."
"We're working on it," Natasha laughed. "We've come a long way. It hasn't been easy, but we're working on it."
As the conversation delves into their relationship's evolution and the challenges they've faced, a lighthearted interruption brings a touch of domestic warmth to the interview. The soft chime of a phone ringing cuts through the roomâs calm. Natasha glances at the screen, a tender smile spreading across her face as she sees the caller ID.
âExcuse me for a moment,â Natasha says, her voice gentle as she answers the call. "Paige, what's up baby?"
On the other end, a small voice can be heard, clear and earnest. âMama, can we have ice cream?â
Natashaâs smile broadens, and she exchanges a quick, knowing glance with Y/n before responding with a playful, âWeâll see, sweetheart. What kind of ice cream are you thinking about? Chocolate chip cookie dough. Don't you think three scoops is a lot?â
The response of the child must be one aligned with their personality as Y/n chuckles softly beside her, the sound rich with affection. The brief call, though mundane, offers a glimpse into their everyday lifeâa moment that underscores the balance theyâve struck between their public personas and their private family world.
As Natasha hangs up and returns her focus to the interview, the atmosphere in the room shifts slightly. The interruption, though brief, adds a layer of intimacy to the conversation.
âItâs these small moments, like a childâs call for ice cream, that remind us of the everyday joys of family life. How have your relationship and your experiences influenced your approach to parenting and managing your family? Especially given your background in the Red Room, Natasha. Has that affected it at all?â
Natasha and y/n exchanged looks, a silent communication passing between them. Y/n reached for Natasha's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "My experiences have definitely shaped me and helped me grow as a parent. I think for a while, I was afraid to be stern. I was afraid to be anything but gentle. That was an issue, and we had to work through it," Natasha began. "I had to understand what each of my children needs and listen to them. I had to stop walking on eggshells and set boundaries. We had to find our flow."
"But once we did, we were able to find our balance and our rhythm as parents. We're very much a team," Y/n continued.
"You've said you're a team. What do you mean by that? What is the dynamic like between the two of you?"
"We support each other, and we communicate. We're both involved in all aspects of our children's lives. We're both present and involved, and we make decisions together. That's the most important thing to us."
"Do you agree with that, Y/n? Do you feel like the two of you work well together as parents?"
"Yes, I think we work really well together. We're both invested in our children, and we're both committed to giving them the best life possible. We've worked through a lot, and I think that's made us stronger as parents and as a couple." Y/n said. "As for being working parents, it's easy for us to feel guilty when we have to be away. I work corporate now and the hours are much more lax than being ADA in New York but they still keep me busy. I try to be home every night for dinner. We trade off on pickups and drop-offs. We help with extracurriculars. It was important to us to not have nannies in their first few years of life. Natasha's parents help us out a lot. With four adults tackling six kids, it's been a pretty successful journey."
"It sounds like you've both been through a lot, but that you've managed to find strength and comfort in each other. What do you think has enabled you to endure these challenges, and what advice would you give other couples facing similar situations?"
Natasha's expression is thoughtful, her voice warm as she speaks. "I think we are the wrong couple. We would give the advice not to have six kids. I'm only half joking. Truthfully, don't bite off more than you can chew. Laugh sometimes. Understand that your children have their own personalities and lives. "
"We would advise you to communicate. Find ways to laugh and find balance. It's important to spend quality time together, and it's also important to prioritize individuality and personal space," Y/n advised.
"One of your children was recently diagnosed with autism. How has this affected your family, and what steps are you taking to support them?"
"Our youngest son was around two when he was diagnosed as level 1." Y/n began. "We've had a lot of support from the community, and we've found that having a network of people who understand has been invaluable. Our older children are incredibly supportive and understanding. They're doing their best to adapt, and they're learning about autism and how to support their brother."
"For you what were the signs you'd noticed in the beginning?"
"We noticed his lack of speech and the fact that he wouldn't make eye contact sometimes," Y/n answered. "A lot of his story is his to tell when he's old enough. We simply noticed that the way he sees the world and how he navigates it was different than what we had encountered previously. The speech was a big indicator for us. He wasn't necessarily delayed. He did have words later than we've seen but he started talking a little after his first birthday. Then the progress was stagnant for a while."
"It was an uphill battle to get him diagnosed," Natasha added. "A doctor we had seen referred us for an evaluation but then there was a process of everyone denying services simply because he seemed "normal". Their words, not mine. So we had to push for second and even third opinions."
"Once he was finally diagnosed we had to wait and then get a referral. So it was a long journey. But we are happy with his care and happy that we got it." Y/n explained. "He's such a happy kid. His favorite thing to do now is drive. So we got him a little electric car."
"We're lucky. He's been given a diagnosis at such a young age. It's given us a lot of time to prepare and get him the help he needs. There are still some struggles, and we're learning how to best support him, but he's a happy and healthy kid. That's the most important thing."
As they both pause, reflecting on their sonâs progress, a quiet sense of gratitude fills the room. I notice the subtle shift in their expressionsâwhile the joy they share in their childâs growth is evident, thereâs also a deeper awareness lingering beneath their words.
âIt sounds like youâve worked hard to get him the care he deserves. But I imagine not every family can navigate that journey as successfully. Have your personal experiences influenced your involvement in advocating for children who arenât able to receive such services as easily?â
Natasha speaks first. âAbsolutely. We know that not every family has access to the resources weâve been fortunate enough to find. And weâre deeply aware of how broken the system can beâhow difficult it can be to get a diagnosis, let alone services.â
âThatâs a huge part of why weâve become so involved in local charities and programs. We wanted to find ways to give back and support those who might not have the same opportunities weâve had. Some so many children go undiagnosed or whose families canât afford the therapy or services they need. Itâs heartbreaking.â Y/n added. âWeâve partnered with a few organizations that focus on providing evaluations and therapy to kids from low-income families. No child should be left behind because of a lack of resources.â
âItâs about creating equity in care. Weâve also started working with a program that connects families with community support, helping them navigate the same bureaucratic challenges we faced. Itâs so important that families donât feel isolated in these experiences.â
"I imagine there are times when it can be difficult to balance your activism and advocacy work with your responsibilities as parents. How do you strike a balance between being hands-on and present for your children and the work you do for children who aren't yours?"
Natasha nods, her eyes softening. "I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people over the years, and I've learned a lot from the mothers I've met."
The interview continues for a while after this, they are willing to offer more than we thought at this point.
"Natasha, youâve made a significant transition from being a covert operative to becoming a beloved public figure. How has this shift impacted your personal identity and daily life? Are there any changes you feel are still needed to create a more balanced world?"
"I'd say I'm more grounded. My priorities are my family, and I've made peace with who I was," Natasha said.
"What has been the most challenging aspect of your reformation, and what have you learned about yourself through this process?"
"Honestly, learning to be comfortable in my own skin," Natasha replied, her tone thoughtful. "I spent so many years trying to run away from who I was, and now I'm learning how to accept myself for who I am. It's a process, and it's not always easy, but it's worth it."
"Do you see yourself as a different person today than you were a few years ago? It's really a task to go from Avenger and spy to mother and housewife. If so, how would you describe those changes, and what role have your personal experiences played in shaping them?"
âAbsolutely, Iâm a different person now,â Natasha said, her gaze thoughtful. âThe shift from a life of constant action and secrecy to one focused on family and personal growth has been profound. Iâve gone from being a figure in the shadows to someone who finds joy in the simplicity of daily life. The experiences Iâve had, both the triumphs and the struggles, have shaped me into someone who values authenticity and connection over secrecy and solitude.â
âItâs been a journey of rediscovering who Natasha is beyond her past roles. Iâve seen her grow into someone who truly cherishes family life and finds purpose in being present. The transformation hasnât been easy, but itâs been incredibly rewarding.â
As Natasha finishes her thought, thereâs a brief silence, the weight of her words hanging in the air. Her transformation has clearly been a deeply personal journey, but it's one that also impacts the life she and Y/n have built together.
âYour personal growth is so evident, and it's clear that family plays a huge role in that. Speaking of family, youâve chosen to live in a nondescript town for safety reasons. How has this decision affected your family life and your sense of community?â
Natasha and Y/n exchange a quick look, both understanding the unique circumstances that brought them to this quiet, unassuming place.
âItâs been a big adjustment, honestly. We chose this town because it offers us a level of privacy and security thatâs hard to come by, given Natashaâs past and our familyâs unique needs.â
Natasha: âAt first, it was difficult. I mean, going from the world we knewâconstantly on the move, always in high-pressure situationsâto a quiet, suburban life was a huge shift,â she admitted, her expression softening. âBut itâs given us a chance to just... breathe. To focus on our kids and our life together without the constant worry of the spotlight or danger.â
âAnd as for the sense of community, itâs been surprisingly strong. People here donât pry. They respect our privacy, but theyâve been incredibly supportive. Our children are growing up with a sense of normalcy that we never really had back in New York."
âIt sounds like this decision has given you a lotâboth the space to focus on your family and a deeper connection to your community. Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for your family and your individual careers?â I commented.
âFor our family, I think the biggest goal is to continue creating a stable, loving environment for our kids. We want them to grow up feeling safe, supported, and like they can be whoever they want to be. Weâve faced so many challenges together, but our focus is on moving forward as a unit.â
âYeah, itâs all about giving them the opportunities we didnât have growing up. Whether thatâs through education, or just being there for them every day. As for careers, Iâm still figuring it out, honestly,â Natasha added with a laugh. âIâve spent most of my life doing one thing, and now that chapterâs closed. But Iâm not in a rush. Iâm more focused on being present for the kids, supporting Y/n, and maybe finding ways to give backâwhether through advocacy or community work.â
âIâm continuing with my legal work, but the focus is more on balancing that with family. Weâve talked about doing more together, maybe starting a foundation to support families with children who need additional services, like our son. Thatâs something weâre both passionate about.â
Natasha: âWeâve both changed so much over the years, and I think our goals have evolved too. Right now, itâs about keeping our family grounded and finding meaningful ways to contribute to the world.â
As our conversation wound down, Natasha and Y/n shared a look that spoke volumesâan unspoken understanding that their lives, once dominated by secrecy and survival, had shifted into something more tender, more hopeful. They thanked me for the thoughtful questions, and I couldn't help but admire the quiet strength that radiated between them. It was clear that their bond had weathered many storms and that their family was the center of everything they did.
As I left their nondescript home, nestled safely away from the chaos that defined much of Natashaâs earlier years, I couldnât help but think of the millions of fans whoâve followed her journey from mysterious spy to dedicated mother and advocate. Online, the love for Natasha and Y/n is as strong as it is in person, with fans showing unwavering support for their family.
On Twitter, the response to their candidness in interviews like this one is overwhelming:
@MarvelFanGirl99: âNatasha Romanoffâs transformation is so inspiring. From Avenger to mom of six? Sheâs proof you can rebuild your life no matter where you start. #RoleModelâ*
@JusticeForNatasha: âHearing Natasha talk about her family is everything. She deserves all the happiness in the world after everything sheâs been through. So proud of her! â€ïž #StrongMomâ*
@YNatasha4Life: âY/n and Natasha are the definition of power couple goals. The way theyâve built a life together and support each other? Iâm emotional. #LoveWinsâ*
@AutismAdvocates: *âKudos to Natasha and Y/n for speaking openly about their sonâs autism diagnosis. Representation matters, and their advocacy for services is so important. #Awarenessâ*

Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking about Personal Pigments because I am so confused and do not take my cues well (from text or speech). I hope you don't take this the wrong way.
In personal pigments, what happens to Jayce and Viktor if Viktor and Reader do end up in a relationship? Because it's heavily implied (at least from what I understood) is that there's a romantic subtext between Jayce and Viktor that even the Y/N notices.
Is it platonic with romance mixed in with extreme respect for each other ++ their work and admiration?
What happens to the trio's relationship with each other? Do they all end up with each other if that was the case?
For other people reading this, there will be spoilers for personal pigments (a vik x reader soon to be jayvikxreader fic) so if you're not caught up to chapter 17 don't read this yet!
Hi anon! No worries, somethings aren't going to be clear to everyone because we all communicate differently, I appreciate the ask! I'll explain my intent more clearly with chapter examples and also answer your questions. I hope the word vomit isn't too bad lol.
You are correct that reader can tell that Jayce and Viktor are romantically involved! In Ch. 10 reader teases/asks them about their "partnership"and Jayce confirms that they are "not, not together". It's meant to be vague in the sense that J and V don't really know either but that they don't care at that moment to define it, they just know that they like each other without having to do anything about it because they are always together anyways. A closeness that didn't need a label because they both saw other people (flings) prior to and during their time as Hextech partners.
For J and V is been an undefined romantic but not yet sexual/physical situationship this whole time, where reader admires them and their work. In turn, J and V start to notice and admire reader. Since it started out as a non-poly fic/ V x reader fic we're seeing more from his POV so far about his feelings for reader. We will see more from Jayce's POV soon but some hints to it are in Chs 10(him noticing V admiring reader) and 12 (saying he missed reader and teasing V for missing reader). These are meant to be read as either platonic or romantic. Things move to a more romantic/ sexual turn when J notices reader watching his moments with V a bit closely in Ch13 and teases reader. We also see J think of reader's words as an innuendo and teasing V.
Ch 14 is where JayVik really comes to fruition as a J and V teeter the edge over a physical/sexual boundary with teasing. They've teased each other before as seen in previous chapters (descriptors or allusions to) but this time it's done with explicit intent to rile up. This chapter ends with Jayce saying "audiences are important" while looking at reader because that's where V is looking. This is meant to imply that J knows that V is interested in reader, and that J himself is also interested. Reader starts Ch 15 seeing the teasing and finding themself wanting to know more but staying away as the JayVik relationship is undefined but present. In Ch 16 while reader is gone on a walk with Mel, Jayce and Viktor finally define their relationship (albeit murkily) as something that is open and they kiss and celebrate. Getting drunk and leading to chapter 17 where Vik masturbates to the idea of both reader and Jayce. In this chapter we also see Reader becoming more aware of JayVik as a potential (since reader doesnt know for certain yet) to be relationship. At this point reader is still dense and likes both of them as friends while finding Viktor to be the most occupying of readers thoughts.
Reader is a bit slow on the uptake. And Jayce is loverboy who can and will love everyone. Since he enjoys reader as a friend, and enjoy V as something more, he likes that V enjoys reader as something more and wouldn't mind developing it with the three on them together. Canonically he has an undefined but very bf/gf like relationship with Mel that I do want to include.
So your questions: what happens to J and V if V and reader start dating? They stay together!
Is it platonic with romance mixed in with their extreme respect for each other ++ their work and admiration? Yes. It started as platonic for J and V that quickly grew to an undefined more before reader was ever present. Now that reader is there J and V admire each other and both admire reader. The two of them (i imagine anyway) respect and are drawn to people with drive. And reader admires their work for Hextech but also J and V's relationship as friends/more than friends because of their inherent trust and kindess for each other. For J and V it became romantic before reader but is defined now with reader because they both want to openly pursue her and potentially others (Mel in the case of Jayce).
What happens to the trio's relationship together? Do they all end up together if that's the case? I fully intend for this to be a slowburn on reader's part specifically. The short of it is all three of them together with potential for Mel to join as a fourth. She may remain as a hinge partner for Jayce that reader crushes on, just depends on how things develop as I keep writing.
Thank you so much for reading and asking, I hope this clarified things. Feel free to ask more questions, I may or may not answer them if the answerscwould reveal too much of the story I have planned. I do want to stick very closely to the canon though. Currently we are inbetween Act 1 and 2 of Season 1 during the 7 year timeskip.

2x07, part 1.
in a parallel universe Jinx and Ecco are TWINS??? Or was it just an expression? (Upd: probably just an expression, otherwise people would be screaming bloody murder about incest rn, lmao) Also, it's SO weird seeing this average Jinx and still hearing her cracked voice. Her mouth opens, but it doesn't match the tone of this Jinx.
And, damn, the spoilers were right. My girl deserves SO much better.
Hey, if all those people are alive, then Silco should be, too. WHERE IS MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER, SHOW HIM TO ME.
I think I'd love her in every universe.
Hey, does that mean Vi is either dead or insane? They can't be ALL 'normal' here?
???? If Silco isn't here, alive and well, I SWEAR TO THE FUCKING OUTSIDER.
??? Silco's place for her? Where. Is. Silco?
Ah huh! I was right. Love the "if Vi is alive, Powder turns to Jinx" allegory. And, basically, everything goes to shit. I'm afraid Silco might also be dead.
So Jayce needed to land there and Viktor wouldn't lost his humanity. Alas.
And if you love the journey More than the end, Go ahead <...> And where the chipps fall Is not your concern
I see you, Arcane. I see what you did there.
But of course, family is forever and all of that. Meh. At least in some universe she did die.
However, the idea that one of the sisters can't live in the world where another is alive/well/sane. The world is too small for the two of them at the same time.
Yeah, that's why Jayce's going to fuck it all up for everybody.
*looks in the camera like i'm in The Office* Jayce is straight, my ass.
He's kind of in Viktor's place rn. Viktor came out of slums and wanted to give it all to people. Jayce wants to destroy it all. The problem is, it is NOT real in his universe. Like, dude. Use your brain.
It's nice seeing the admission that Jinx is hella smart and does great things in 'our' universe. Terrible, but great.
The green in her blue eyes.
My question is, why are figures/what's left of people mechanical? After Hextech blew up in the universe that Jayce is in? Is it some sort of LoL lore? Therefore that's what Viktor becomes in the current universe after Jayce tried to kill him?
I love her.
Jayce and Viktor the first time they made the relic work... And it's the infinite sign. ;_;
There's something about Ekko, with professor and Jinx, inventing Hextech in this universe, while Jayce tries to destroy it. Honestly, dude would've been way happier if he landed where they are.
LOOK AT THIS PRECIOUS BABYGIRL. It's like when she was creating the thing for Silco with her braids in the air all around her.
The indicators were is that you died a horrible death.
If anything, I'm glad he got the chance to hug Benzo. I need this for SIlco and Jinx.
i was about to say that Silco wasn't mentioned even ONCE during this ep, but decided to wait until the end. the way i gasped. MY BELOVED!!
hey. hey, this isn't Silco (i know and love). the power of family is fucking bullshit, quit with this shit, s2.
when Jinx (well, Powder) and Ekko dance, that's where I roll my eyes and mentally gag. absolutely not. and if THIS is what prompts him to save Jinx in their timeline, then it's a big fat eugh for me.
pretty colours. it suits her.
i am SO imagining Jilco like this. my babies.
they.
Jayce, have you forgotten that you and your mom were dying in your universe?
Heimerdinger should've went back with Ekko.

sick. (sort of) â°
k. chaewon & m. sakura x 6th member!reader / 0.7k
summary. â in which youâre sick enough to have one (1) bead of sweat roll down the side of your face.
warnings. â eunchae pops in and then disappears / i wrote a majority of this at midnight lol, i am not sick.
youâre sick.
so sick that you felt like you were going to die in the next few seconds if a doctor didnât come andâ
âyou donât feel warm.â chaewon murmured, her hand placed on your forehead. âyouâre also not red, nor are you sweating.â she then moved her hand to the side of your neck, her brows furrowed as she stared at you. âare you sure youâre sick?â
okay, well, maybe you werenât that sickâat least, you werenât so sick that you needed a doctor to come and fix youâbut it wasnât like you werenât not sick either.
âi donâfeel okay.â you slur, wincing when you feel your head pound. âeverythinâ hurts.â
chaewon, frowning, sighs and moves to remove her hand from your throat, only for you to take it and press your cheek against her palm.
âânnie, youâre sâwarmâŠâ you mutter, eyes drifting shut oh so slowly. ââreyâsureyouânâsick?â
the older girl purses her lips, her frown deepening as she gently shook you awake, causing you to whine. âyn, please try and stay awake. you canât take medicine if you arenât.â
âmedicine?â just hearing the word is enough to make you snap awake. âwhâch medicine? âs it the one thaâ tastes gooâ or the one that tastes supaâ bittaâ?â
âneither of them taste good or bitter, yn.â she says, sighing. âboth of them are supposed to be sweet just so that kids can eat it without whining, butââ
âwhatâs going on here?â
the two of you turned your heads to the doorâwell, more like chaewon did. you had just slowly spun in your chair until you were somewhat facing the doorâwhere the oldest of the six of you stood.
âhi ânnie!â you greeted, slugishly waving your hand at the older girl. âwhând yuâgeâhere?â
she blinks, making you blink back at her, if not a little bit slowly. âwhat?â
âsheâs asking, âwhen did you get here?ââ chaewon translated, giving you a weirded-out look when you let out a not-so-quiet giggle at the thought of needing a translator to translate your perfectly understandableâand definitely not slurredâwords. âand to answer your question, ynnie is sick. sort of.â
âsort of?â eunchaeâwhere the hell did she come from?âasked, popping out from behind sakuraâoh.âwith an unimpressed look on her face. âhow is someone âsort of sickâ?â
âhave you taken her temperature yet?â sakura asked, her lips pursed.
chaewon shook her head, her brows furrowed. âi havenât, but she doesnât feel all that warm, she isnât red, and she isnât sweating.â
âbut âm sweating.â you pouted, pointing at what youâre pretty sure is a bead of sweat on the side of your face. âsee?â
âyn isnât warm, she isnât red, but she is sweating.â chaewon amended. satisfied by the correction, you give your leader a gummy smile and, to your delight, she returns it with a small smile of her own.
ââŠletâs just bring her to the kitchen.â sakura decided with a sigh. âthe thermometer should be in a drawer somewhere in there and if she is actually sick, sheâll take some medicine and go straight back to bed.â
âand if she isnât?â
âyâh!â you slur, opening your eyes as wide as you could. âwhâif âm nâsick?â
âthen weâll make her breakfast and hope that her âsort ofâ sickness doesnât make her throw up.â sakura said, her lips pressed into a thin line. âand in the event that she does throw up, weâll hope that she throws up on anywhereâthe toilet would be more preferable but we both know sheâs not going to make it thereâbut herself.â
âthâs hrâsh.â you mutter sulkily. ââcan toâally mâke ât tâthâtoilât.â
chaewon sighs in exasperation, though the amused smile on her lips gives her away. âyn, we have no idea what youâre saying.â
âhmph!â
(spoiler: you ended up kneeling in front of the toilet an hour or so later with kazuha holding your hair up and yunjin cooing in your ear. sakura and chaewon were busy cleaning up your throw up on the floorâthankfully tiledâwhile eunchae was in her room, having been sent away after nearly throwing up herself after seeing you throw up.)

Starfall | I - A Star Makes Its Landing
return to masterlist
Chapter Summary: You wake up in a strange but familiar place, and meet some new friends.
Chapter Warnings: None yet
A/N: Welcome to the first chapter of my new fic! Wanted to try my hand at writing something for SAGAU, and here it is! I'm also opening up requests, so feel free to start asking questions, just don't expect any spoilers, lol. Also to those of you who want to join my taglist for this fic, just drop a like or reblog on this post or the masterlist.
Hope you guys enjoy~â€
A gentle breeze blows across your face, cool but pleasant. A tingling sensation runs over your nose; you frown, bringing your hand up to swat at it. The sensation returns only a second later, joined by more on your arms, legs, chest, everywhere practically.
You open your eyes reluctantly, thinking, Is it too much to ask for five more minutes to sleep?
You are met with crystalline wings, definitely not your bedroom ceiling. You sit like a catapult, hair flying around your face as you whip your head around. A kaleidoscope of sky-blue butterflies flutter around you as you take your surroundings in â youâre in the middle of a forest with no houses or buildings in sight.
âWhere the fuck am I?â You blurt out, anxiety bubbling up in your chest. You almost open your mouth to scream but before you can a butterfly darts right up to your face, flapping its wings almost frantically. Distracted by the sight before you â you canât recall butterflies ever wanting to get this close to you â you hold your hand out to let it land. To your surprise it does, allowing you the chance to see the designs on its wings. The designs seem familiar, and as the butterfly gently crawls into your palm you realize it:
âAre these⊠Anemo Crystalflies?â you mumble to yourself. The butterfly â Crystalfly â flutters its wings once almost in response to your question. It takes flight once more, joining its siblings around you.
âNo way.â You walk up to a nearby tree, where three fruits hang from its branches. They look like Sunsettias and as you pick one from the lowest branch to inspect it, you realize that thatâs exactly what it is. You run your fingers across its surface to feel the Sunsettiaâs smooth texture, then lift it to your nose to smell it â it has a sweet aroma.
You lift the Sunsettia to your lips, you sink your teeth into it, and a sweet but slightly tangy juice gushes into your mouth. Itâs delicious â you eat the whole thing in three bites, leaving you with just the pit. You feel renewed, energized even!
âIâm in Teyvat,â you whisper. âIâm in Genshin Impact!â
The Crystalflies seem to rejoice at your revelation, fluttering around you excitedly. Everything bursts with elemental energy, from the grass to the trees to even the breeze blowing through the foliage. Itâs overwhelming and you blink in an effort to adjust, which brings something else to your attention; you only feel one eye blink.
You bring your hand up to feel the area around your left eye, and startle when you feel nothing there.
Is my eye missing?!
You look around for something to confirm your suspicion, but the only things here are you, the Crystalflies, and the flora. Wait â arenât the Crystalflies supposed to be skittish? They always flew away from the characters when you were playing the game. There has to be some specific reason theyâre hanging out around you.
Maybe you could ask them for help? It seems silly, but you didnât have a lot of options here.
You hold out a hand again and almost immediately, a Crystalfly lands on it.
âUm, can you understand me? Flap once for yes, twice for no.â
The Crystalfly flaps its wings once. Your eye â er, eye â widens in shock. The Crystalflies in the game were never anything more than floating models with some code attached to them. How was it possible for them to be intelligent answer your questions? You were getting sidetracked â back to the questions.
âOkay, uh⊠Is there like, a lake, or some kind of water nearby?â
The Crystalfly flaps its wings again.
âCan you take me to it?â
The Crystalfly flaps its wings once more. It takes flight this time, its siblings following behind it to make a trail for you. It wasnât long before you arrived at a little pond at the end of a creek. You kneeled down at the edge and leaned over the water to look at your reflection, only to find something even more unexpected.
âWhat happened to me?â
Your eye was missing alright, but your eye socket wasnât empty. Instead, there was a tiny silvery floating sphere with flares jumping off it in its place; it was almost like a miniature sun. That wasnât the only thing that was different though. Your hair looked like it had been cut from the night sky â galaxies, stars, and nebula were strewn all through it and floated above your shoulders in an otherworldly manner. You pulled a strand away to feel it; it felt like regular hair but misty somehow, like it was partially incorporeal.
You put your hand over your new âeyeâ and the elemental auras disappeared, replaced by the regular world around you. Was this how you could see elements? You took your hand away then put it back again. Somehow your left âeyeâ gave you Elemental Sight, but that shouldnât be possible. As far as you knew, only Vision users could do that.
âAm I dead?â
A Crystalfly sat on a lily pad and flapped its wings twice to answer you. You pinched your wrist just to be sure then winced when a sharp pain shot through your wrist. You were definitely not dead. But how did you get here then? You werenât doing anything out of the ordinary before you ended up here. But come to think of itâŠ
What was I doing before I got here?
With a frown on your face, you sat back on your heels and began to dig through your mind. Try as you might, you couldnât remember anything solid about your past. The only things that came up was basic information like your name, your age, and what objects were, like phones, cars, and backpacks.
âMy backpack!â You gasped. You jumped to your feet in an instant and darted back the way you came. You tore through the underbrush in a panic as the startled chiming of the Crystalflies followed you. You came back to the clearing you started in quickly then searched almost frantically through the bushes; your backpack all of your stuff in it! Maybe there was something that could help you remember how you ended up in Teyvat.
âOw-hey!â A Crystalfly tugged on your hair, not harshly but strong enough to get your attention, nonetheless. âWhat the hell was that for?!â
It chimed energetically and fluttered back to its siblings, all of them flying in circles over a specific bush. You followed them and pulled the shrub back; there lay your backpack, thankfully untouched.
You let out a sigh of relief, âOh, thank God.â
You sat down and pulled you backpack into your lap.
âOh, thanks by the way! Sorry for snapping at you earlier.â You looked up at the Crystalflies. They flutter back in response, in glee almost.
You opened your bag to see what it had; thankfully your phone was there, along with three textbooks, a pair of headphones, some snacks, a water bottle, notebooks and pencils, and your laptop. Unfortunately, there were no chargers to go with your phone and laptop. However, you did manage to find two other things: a wallet and a pair of tickets to the movies.
Your wallet had about 100 dollars in it and two cards but given that you were on Teyvat and not Earth, your money was probably worthless here. Your driverâs license was a bit more useful because it had a picture of yourself from before you ended up here. You had a shocked look on your face in the picture, probably because you hadnât been prepared for the clerk to take the picture when they did. You had been waiting in line all day just to take your test and hadnât much sleep the night before. It didnât help that the instructor was the most boring person youâd ever met in your life. He could find a way to make beige look exciting.
Wait, that was a solid memory!
Your phone beeped just then â how could it be getting notifications when there werenât any cellphone towers around? You pulled your phone out to investigate, unlocking it with the code you somehow still remembered.
To your surprise, your entire screen had changed; gone was the custom background and all the apps you had downloaded. Genshin Impact was gone just as you suspected it would be â you were currently inside the game after all â but so were all the other games you had downloaded. Instead, there were only six icons present on the screen: one for a camera, one for an encyclopedia, one for a âcommand console,â one for storage space, one for runes, and one for settings. There was only one icon with any notification, the Encyclopedia with a glowing number 2 by it, and so you opened the app to see what had happened.
There under the tab that read âRepositoryâ was a picture of you, sitting in the driverâs seat with an exasperated face look on your face. In the front passenger seat is your driving instructor, seemingly droning on and on about nothing at all. Itâs the memory that you had just recovered.
âSo, my phone is some kind of magic now?â You said to yourself, âI guess itâs nice to have a mini Sheikah Slate on me, but it kinda sucks that I canât use it for much else now.â
You began to scroll through the various features now present on your phone. In addition to the Repository, the Encyclopedia also had information on practically everything on Teyvat, from plants to animals and monsters to even weapons. The Storage Space app held a list of everything you had on you at the moment, and when you tapped a picture of your backpack, it disappeared into the app. The Camera functioned the way you thought it would, and the Settings app seemed to be rather barren. At least it let you change your hair back to the way it looked before you got it here, but that was the only thing that you were really interested in there.
You started to tap the Command Console, but the sound of snapping branches and faint voices in the distance made you pause. You strained your ears to see if you hear more.
âI think⊠landed somewhere⊠check it out?â A light, energetic voice chattered, drifting closer and closer. It sounded familiar, like a character you had seen in the game.
Panic began to crawl up spine; what if they saw you the way you looked now? You may not have looked terrible but seeing the way you dressed and talked, it would be obvious to anyone around that you werenât local. Thinking fast, you ripped a vine from a nearby tree â you donât remember being this strong before â and wrapped it around your head over your missing eye. You used your newly altered phone to bring your backpack back out into the open.
Unfortunately, the sound of the approaching strangers chased away your newfound Crystalfly friends.
âHey, wait!â you shouted before you could stop yourself.
ââŠThink I heard somethingâŠ!â The voice grew closer. If there was any hope that they would just pass you by, that hope was dashed now. You stood and dusted yourself off; hopefully the people you ran into would be friendly.
âUm, hello? Is anyone there?â You called. You slung your backpack over your shoulder as you walked towards the voice.
âDonât worry, a Knight of Favonius is coming to assist you!â
Wait a minute, is that Amber?!
A blur of silver burst forth from the foliage and knocked you flat on your back. You groaned, your vision blurry from the sudden fall, but that didnât stop you from recognizing the white and golden garb of the young man just behind.
âPaimon! Look what you did!â
âSorry!â A weight lifted from your chest and three figures stood above you.
A hand clad in a red and brown glove opened wide to help you up. You took it, standing with shaky legs.
âAre you alright? Paimon crashed into you pretty hardâŠâ A platinum blonde-haired girl floated into view, anxiously pressing the tips her of her fingers together. If there was any remaining doubt that you were in Genshin Impact, Paimonâs appearance had chased it all away.
âIâm a little sore, but fine.â
âAs a member of the Knights of Favonius, it is my duty to formally apologize for our conduct.â Amber placed a fist on her chest, a solemn look on her face as she bowed. âAllow us the chance to make it up to you. Iâm Outrider Amber, and this is Paimon and Aether, Honorary Knights of Favonius. Whatâs your name?â
You gave it to them; itâs not like there was any harm in giving them your name, right?
âHmmâŠâ Paimon narrowed her eyes at you as you floated right up to you. âYou sound kinda like Aether.â
You felt a jolt run through you. âWhat? How? He hasnât even said anything!â
âPaimonâs never heard of anyone from Teyvat with a name like yours. Well, except for⊠Nah, that canât be right!â The elf girl shook her head as if to dispel the thought.
You open your mouth to question her, only to be cut off by Amber: âAnd come to think of it, your style of dress doesnât match anything Iâve seen here. Are you another Traveler then?â
They figured that out fast; youâd barely even said anything to them, and they had pegged you as an outsider almost immediately!
âI donât about Traveler, but I know Iâm definitely not from around here. I woke up here a few minutes ago, and I canât remember what I was doing before I got here. In fact, I canât remember anything about myself before I got here.â You said carefully. You still didnât how much you could tell them about your circumstances without freaking them out. Thereâs no way any of them would react well to learning that their reality was just a game to you.
Amber began to scratch her head and mused aloud, âWell, this is strange. Three days ago, a star falls from the sky and leaves a huge crater in the ground. But instead of a meteorite in the middle, thereâs a person with strange clothes and amnesia left in the crater.â
âWait, did you say crater? I didnât see any craters where I woke up.â At that, Aether and Paimon shared a look with each other.
âAbout that⊠Well, itâs probably best if you see it yourself. Follow me!â Amber began to walk towards the top edge of the valley.
âOkay, but I donât see what this has to do with-â You cut yourself off with a gasp. There at the top of the valley, you saw exactly what she was talking about; the valley was in fact not a valley at all. It was a crater, an unmistakably gigantic crater, and at the center was the exact spot where you woke up.
âThis canât be possible, you said that this happened a few days ago! How could it be covered up with plants that fast?â You turned to Amber in shock.
âMaybe it has something to do with you? Paimon did say that you seemed kinda like AetherâŠâ The fairy-like girl put her hand to her chin contemplatively. âYou woke up here with no memory of how you left home, and you said that you know for a fact that you arenât from Teyvat. Maybe the god that separated him from his sister brought you here too!â
Aether only nodded in agreement.
âWell in any case, it wonât do to keep discussing it out here. Come on, we should head for Monstadt City before it gets dark.â Amber took the lead in your impromptu caravan with Aether and Paimon right behind her and you reluctantly trailing behind them.
There was no way a huge crater could be filled in so fast with foliage, let alone one that huge. Maybe there was a Dendro user nearby? But you were the only person around for miles, and Crystalflies usually only showed around places that had their matching elements.
Maybe⊠it really does have something to do with me? You looked down at your hands; you didnât look any different than normal, aside from the missing eye situation.
Aetherâs nature as a Descender meant that the had no vision, but instead they could âresonateâ with the Elements and wield them as if he was a native of Teyvat anyway. Had you gained that ability too?
You snuck a glance up at the group before you; Paimon was chattering away about what eat when she got back to the city, while Amber was thinking aloud about why you here, and the Traveler remained silent through it all. None of them were paying attention to you.
You looked back at your hands and took a deep breath. You imagined a little flower, growing and blooming right in your hands. Not even a second later, an emerald green light sprang from your palms and two cerulean starflowers bloomed right in your grasp. You gasped and the flowers disappeared just as fast they were summoned.
âDid something happen?â Amber called from ahead of the group.
âOh, I thought I saw a bug. Itâs nothing.â You wiped the palms of your hands on your pants. Hopefully they wouldnât notice the petals in your fingers.
âUgh Paimon hates bugs! Letâs go before we run into anymore.â Paimon darted ahead of the group, passing Amber in seconds.
âHey, wait up!â The brunette girl shouted and ran behind the floating elf.
You were left alone with Aether, but you paid him no mind. You felt him cast a curious gaze in your direction and you pretended not to notice as you began to jog to catch up. The less questions you were asked the better. Once you were in Monstadt City, you could start to figure out how you got here.

untitled | fourteen
everyone loves when David Tennant does his sad boy screaming scenes. light spoilers for the second of the sixtieth specials. I am telling you what... I haven't felt like I was on an acid trip watching doctor who since 2014 LOL
this is one of two doctor who fics I'm gonna be putting out before Christmas!
***
When you find him, he's screaming. He's screaming loud and bold and raw and you wonder how his toes don't break from how hard he's kicking the tunnel walls.
You wonder what he saw. What the ganger said to him.
The Doctor had found you not long after he'd found Donna. It had been ten years since you had last seen him. Ten long years since you'd agonized over unrequited love and left him with nothing but a passing glance over your shoulder as you parted from the TARDIS.
Now he's come back, and that love you had buried for so long has come bubbling back to the surface.
You hate yourself for loving him.
You can't help it though.
It isn't until the screams fades into uneasy, tense silence that you dare to lift your eyes to meet his. There's a lot of turmoil in those eyes. He hasn't told you what happened in the ten years you've been apart. Not yet. You wonder if he ever will.
It's very clear that whatever he did, whoever he lost... wounded him. The Doctor may appear to be this cold, unyielding being of infinite wisdom and live. They may have called him The Oncoming Storm. The Valeyard.
He is not. Underneath that exterior is an ancient being longing for companionship. For somewhere safe to land when so often people use him as their safe place to land. Him. The hero.
But where do heroes go when the universe becomes too much for them to handle singlehandedly?
"Hey," You reach for his hand and hold it to your chest. His whole aspects softens at the gesture. This version of The Doctor is so much more open than the last time you saw him. So much more honest, vulnerable, so much more loving. "Are you... you?"
His gaze is questioning as you look at each other before he averts his gaze to the floor. You're getting closer. He's apprehensive, clearly, but The Doctor really wants you to take your fingers idle at your side and card them through his hair. "The last time I saw you," The Doctor murmurs. "You were leaving the TARDIS with the Smiths. Sarah Jane, it was. Said you were going to go make the world a better place-"
"In your honor," You admit. You don't miss how the hand pressed to your chest trembles at the remark, and something catches in his throat as you lift your idle hand to card your fingers through his hair. "Because you were the most remarkable man who'd ever come into my life. And I loved it. I loved you."
You're close enough now that you can feel him. All of him.
The Doctor exhales softly against your face as you lift his chin with your thumb so he'll finally meet your eyes. You're aching to know what has cut him so deeply. What he'll let you do in mending the damage to those ancient, broken hearts of his that have only ever been partially stitched.
Because every time a companion left, or they died, the stitches broke.
"Loved?" The Doctor asked.
Lifting yourself to your tiptoes, you tangle your fingers in the short hair and his nape and whisper, "Love."
And when you come together, he kisses you like a man who's been deprived of air for too long. You are what he needs to breathe.
And he is your safe spot to land.

rings of power (belated reactions) season 1: eps 1-4
Backstory: I'm a casual Tolkien fan, I would say -- grew up watching the animated movies (literally knew the songs by heart as a kid); read LOTR & the Hobbit but not the Silm; loved both the LOTR and the Hobbit movies. Read a bunch of fanfiction over the years by people who know a lot more about the lore than I do.
I tried watching the new series when the first season came out, but still felt like the pacing was really slow by the end of the second episode, so never got around to watching more.
Found out about the twist at the end of s1 and was intrigued, but not quite enough to give it another watch. Heard more bits and bobs about s2 when it came out, with people who share some of the same tastes in media as me enjoying it (shoutout to @markantonys). Liked and reblogged some interesting giftsets. Finally decided to give it another try.
Below contains vague spoilers for the whole show so far and for LotR
I went ahead and rewatched the first two episodes, and I found myself getting a lot more out of it this time than the first time. I remembered liking the dwarves a lot, and still really enjoyed that plotline, but I was able to get into the other plotlines a lot more as well this time. I actually do feel like I get what the pacing is doing now, even if it didn't work as well for me the first time around -- we start with the single thread of Galadriel's search for Sauron and then keep expanding outward from there, introducing the other important plotlines gradually. It was, perhaps, slightly too gradual for me in my first try at watching!
I've seen through episode four now and am thoroughly enjoying the show, enough that I plan to watch more of it with my mom later today.
Things really do pick up with increasing speed after episode 2. We also get some amazing costuming in NĂșmenor -- the queen in particular has some great outfits, but I also really love the banded dress that Galadriel wears there.
My mom (unspoiled about the show) is fully willing to go with the theory that Adar is Sauron going by another name (as proposed by Arondir's (now deceased) guard-captain).
Now, unlike my mom, I am spoiled about the show and so I am watching Halbrand very carefully. One thing that I do find interesting is that the show starts out with Galadriel narrating that nothing begins as evil, so I do feel like that feeling is meant to extend to Halbrand/Sauron as well. Which is to say, I give him the benefit of the doubt that he actually does want to stay in NĂșmenor and start a new life (whether or not he could actually stick to that once he'd spent several years there... that's more of an open question). I don't think his plan at this time is to return to Middle-Earth and set up shop there.
Both Nori and Galadriel have talked about feeling like there is something important about sticking with their mysterious respective stranger. Both of whom are Maiar (Maia? I did mention that I'm mostly a casual fan of Tolkien, lol). They both just give off the vibe of being important and consequential... to specific people. Not to everyone that they run across.
I really like what they're doing with Halbrand -- they are definitely leaning on his superficial (and false) similarities to Aragorn in LotR and, especially when he was in the prison cell, there were some moments when he really looked like Viggo too. I feel like I've already seen a lot of range from him as a character -- we've seen him being persuasive and diplomatic; we've seen a brutal flash of temper and violence; and we've seen him give Galadriel advice on how to manipulate people; we've also seen him teasing and bantering with Galadriel (very much enjoying their dynamic in these episodes).
Speaking of Galadriel, I am enjoying her a lot. She doesn't stop! Willpower and determination just always constantly turned to a thousand. She decides what's going to happen and then doesn't let anything stand in her way.
I'm glad that we got back to Elrond's storyline in the fourth episode and caught up with Durin and the dwarves. I did spend a lot of time trying to remember if Moria and Khazad-dûm were the same place (yes) and so that means that it may well be these unsafe mithril mining practices that lead to the Balrog waking up and the mountain being abandoned by the dwarves. I don't know the timelines well enough to know for sure. It made sense to me that it was the same place, because of the elf word for 'friend' being the word to open the gates into Moria in LotR.
Though I am fairly well spoiled about certain things about Sauron, I am still missing a lot of the connective tissue about the various plotlines, so I don't know what the blood-drinking sword is going to lead to yet. Except that it means that the mayor (tavern owner?) of the village was a true believer in Sauron even after all these years and has been keeping it. And probably encouraging the rest of his people not to trust the elves.
Super-minor note: I love the costuming for Bronwyn -- the blue dress with the reddish boots. It really pops against all the other characters in her storyline and she's always easy to spot. Appreciate that!
There really is a heartbreaking contrast between the lives of the people of NĂșmenor and the people of the Southlands.
What are the Valar trying to do in all this? Was it the Valar who made the petals fall or was Halbrand/Sauron trying to help Galadriel out? He seems to enjoy... how did he put it? Her galloping around full-speed like a colt? Something like that, lol. So he might have wanted to give her a chance to get what she wanted from the queen. Playing multiple sides against each other seems to come pretty naturally to him.
We are seeing that ambition is being set up to lead to doom already in Middle-Earth, even without Sauron's direct presence -- Celebrimbor explicitly wants to create objects of power, not just objects of beauty. Adar is trying to find that blood-drinking hilt and is leading the Orcs to some kind of terror (he's already enslaving people in his search). And the dwarves have been mining in the dangerous old mines because they found a vein of mithril there.
Gil-galad tried to send Galadriel away to Valinor because he foresaw that her continued hunt for Sauron might end up bringing his danger back to the forefront and, from what I know (spoiler-wise) that ends up being true (in fairness, she did find Sauron! Even if she doesn't know it yet! And he will get defeated. You know. Eventually.)
Other things of note: I love Disa! Disa is wonderful. Disa-Durin-Elrond could make for a very nice polycule. What if Elrond had made it to their wedding and there hadn't been any estrangement! But I really like that we saw some consequences for long elven lifespans and how it can affect their relationships with people who don't live as long.
I like the angsty young teens well enough, though Theo is definitely in the roughest situation out of any of them (see: the Southlands kinda sucking as a place to live). Definitely perked up when I heard Elendil and Isildur's names!
I'm really curious about whether or not the isle of NĂșmenor turning against the elves is all based on them being more insular and isolationist or if there's something else at work. That the old king was trying to return to the ancient elven ways because of a vision in a palantir... very curious where that vision is coming from. Galadriel's arrival being tied to the breaking of the sea wall and the destruction of the city. I... don't know my Middle-Earth history enough to say for certain, but I suspect Sauron is gonna be involved in that. Because it's Sauron.
Arondir is our most plainly heroic character overall, I'd say (Galadriel is driven by vengence; Arondir's focus has been on trying to save and protect) and he is very dreamy. I do like that we have these PoVs in the Southlands and what's going on there, so we see that Galadriel is justified in feeling like there is still evil to fight.
Having a lot of fun with this. Glad I gave it a second chance.

Hi bb đș can you choose a 500 word snippet from one of your published fics or wips and give us some director's commentary / insight into what you were thinking when you wrote it?
Hi bb! ^^ Sure, I'd love to!
I'd like to take the chance to talk about a scene from intricate rituals, my omegaverse Jaytim fic featuring beta!Tim being courted by alpha!Jason.
This scene takes place near the end of the rising action, at the tail end of the fifth time that Jason was totally courting Tim, and Tim still did not notice. Obviously, spoilers under the cut for anyone who hasn't read it yet, and I am a chatty mfer so this got kind of long, haha:
Tim dozes against Jasonâs shoulder as he fiddles with the bedroom door handle, and does absolutely nothing to help when they reach the bed in the corner; so Jason dumps him on top of the sheets without fanfare. He bounces on the mattress with an offended chirp while Jason turns to look through his dresser for something. Tim whines obnoxiously at the sudden cold and wriggles around until heâs under the cool top sheet, his face firmly shoved into one of Jasonâs pillows. He squints an eye open when Jason still hasnât finished doing whatever heâs doing, only to see him standing over the bed. His face is unreadable in the darkness, but Tim can tell that heâs clearly dithering. Why? He better not be getting weird about this. Itâs only weird if Jason makes it weird. Tim is not nearly awake enough to puzzle through the why right now. Heâll think about it later. âJason. Get in the bed,â he grumbles. Jason startles at the sound of Timâs voice, but does as heâs told. The second Jason is under the covers, Tim invades the inch of space left between them with impunity. But thenâ Jason stiffens, so Tim stops about point five millimeters away from actually touching him. âSorry," Tim says quietly. "You're really warm?" He says it like a question, trying to explain himself and ask permission at the same time and he can't really tell if he's accomplished either. Jason seems to get it though; he takes a breath and relaxes, then closes the remaining distance himself. He pulls Tim into the hot cave of his body, leaving an arm slung over Tim's waist and tucking him under his chin. Tim sighs, a purr thrumming softly in his chest as he tangles himself in Jason. He buries his face in Jasonâs collarbone and quietly wonders to himself how he got here. He's not sure he knows how he and Jason went from barely tolerating each other in the same room, the same city, (the same costume) to cuddling like packmates in the same nest. Yeah, a nest Tim basically invited himself into, and okay when heâs more awake heâll feel a little guilty about thatâ but Jason carried Tim here himself. He didn't have to do that. He had every opportunity to say no. To think that he has Jason's trust now. That Jason would let him in this close, have him at his back, at his throat, have access to the vulnerable parts of him. It's terrifying. It's wonderful. Itâs only marred by the smallest hint of apprehension still woven through the sleepy warmth of Jason's scent, that Tim only catches because his nose is practically shoved against Jason's scent gland. With a small, trilling keen, he tries his best to project calm-safe-acceptance. Heâs had practice at it since becoming Robin, since joining the Wayne pack, but he's always been better at masking his scent than projecting it. A lifetime of hiding is hard to unlearn.
(you don't realize how long 500 words is until you see it right there on the page lol)
So intricate rituals is practically a study in denial. Tim spends half the fic justifying to himself (and to us) why Jason's overt alpha courtship behavior has a completely platonic explanation, and never ever even hints that he, himself, a beta, might in fact want a romance with Jason. Even though he really, really does.
So when I start writing out the prose for a scene, I try to keep those big guiding principles for the overarching plot in mind, as well as what I'm hoping to accomplish by the end of the scene. There's a few things I wanted from this scene in particular.
First: absolutely gag-worthy #married behavior. This is it! This is the final example of Jason's courtship and Tim's flimsy excuses (AKA the formula for each scene lol). So it has to be truly outrageous. It has to be over the top. The cream of the crop. And this time, it has to be Tim's idea in the first place. Get hoisted (from your own petard), idiot.
Second: it has to set us up for why Tim is in Jason's bed in the final scene. I knew all along how this fic was going to end - with Tim in Jason's bed, but comfortable there already; the tip-over from platonic to romantic that only happens because they're in such a stupidly domestic position that Tim is FORCED to realize that he might not be the only one pretending that This Is Fine.
Third: this is almost a step too far for Jason. But not quite.
In the first half of this snippet, we catch the end of the egregious courting behavior. Jason literally carries Tim into his nest/bed. He has to step away to get PJ's or something - Tim's not paying attention to that, so we don't really find out for sure - and when he comes back to see Tim whining and wriggling and getting comfy in his sheets, he has to take a second. For #strength.
Like usual, Tim clocks that something is bothering Jason; that Jason is Experiencing An Emotion. But also like usual, he doesn't clock what it is. Even though it's obvious to us, the romance pilled and dramatic-irony-aware audience. Even worse, he's so deep in his own denial (which hopefully we've picked up at least an inkling of by now, but it's not explicitly told to us until the next interlude scene) that he blames Jason for making it weird. He gets so close to making the intuitive leap about why EXACTLY Jason might be hesitant about sharing a bed, but he's too ~sleepy UwU (and ~afraid OwO). UGH, TIM.
(I try to balance action with introspection. Action -> reaction -> introspection -> action. Jason dumps Tim on the bed -> Tim whines and gets comfortable -> Tim wonders what's taking Jason so long -> Tim opens his mouth to ask "hey wtf is your problem". But preferably the action/reaction is described vividly enough and in the character's voice enough that we can, like, microdose on introspection along the way and keep the ball rolling lol)
When Jason is told to get in the bed, he startles - he was lost in his own thoughts. I like to think Jason was pondering his own version of what Tim sort of torments himself (and us) with every scene; wondering to himself how they got here, lamenting the fact that Tim isn't interested in him the way he would like him to be, and thankful that he gets to have him at all. Maybe contemplating what might happen if only he was a little braver. If this is it; if this will be Tim's line, and whether Jason's about to cross it. (Tim lies to himself about his feelings. Jason is brutally honest with himself about his.)
Tim moves in for the cuddle - Jason stiffens because he's still boggling at this whole situation, and a little afraid that Tim will realize exactly where they are and finally tell Jason 'no'. Again, Tim clocks his discomfort - "Sorry," - and again he misunderstands its source, mislabeling the motivations behind Jason's actions.
Jason makes himself open, and Tim takes happy advantage. Awww, they're cute, even if I do want to strangle them 'now kiss' style. Cue Tim's 'isn't it crazy how we're such good friends now' narrative monologue for the scene.
(đ„"HOT CAVE OF HIS BODY" MENTIONđ„) (i can't resist this phrase OTL i'm weak for it)(it's about protection it's about warmth it's about the primal imagery of being nestled under the weight of something powerful that loves you)(<- werewolf pilled)
In this last half of the snippet, I wanted Tim to kind of show his ass here, re: being in denial lol.
"He's not sure he knows how" - Tim, we all just saw exactly how you and Jason ended up here. Yeah, we skipped some of that early stuff, but we just saw the start of your deeper friendship. It started with an omelette.
"When he's more awake he'll feel a little guilty" - Tim, didn't you just explain to Jason and to us why you shouldn't feel guilty? That it's perfectly normal to share a nest with packmates? Why do you feel guilty about this, Tim?
"He didn't have to do that." You're right. He didn't have to do that, and he did have every opportunity to say no. Why didn't he, Tim?
He tries to explain that it must be because Jason trusts him. That Jason's trust is a wonderful and terrifying thing to have. Huh. Interesting. Why does that terrify you, Tim?
Then Tim picks up on Jason's scent. Jason's own fears are the only thing that can cut through Tim's spiraling thoughts right now. Jason's made peace with having what he wants so close but still so far; and yet, he still can't help but ache.
Wanting to ease Jason's discomfort is what makes Tim bold. He tries to make Jason more comfortable by reassuring him that Tim feels safe here. That he feels accepted, and that he accepts Jason - which is true, regardless of his secret, presumedly unreciprocated feelings. Aww.
The last paragraph was a two for one - transitioning us into wrapping up the scene, but also, low key? The thesis of what we've seen so far. This explains at least one facet of Tim's behavior, prepping us for his breakdown and the emotional reveal in the next interlude.
Why is Tim in denial? Why won't he admit, even to himself, that he wants Jason? Sexually, romantically? That Jason could be courting him, that Jason could want him too? Because he's always been better at masking than projecting. A lifetime of hiding is hard to unlearn.
I really enjoyed writing intricate rituals, and my biggest hope was that everyone would be ready to strangle Tim by the end of this scene - but also hurt for him by the end of the next. When you get used to the idea that you are unwanted or undesirable, in any capacity, it's truly difficult to let yourself be convinced otherwise. But there's bravery and freedom to be found in finally allowing yourself to believe it. <3
