Fanfics ideas, cause you love MXTX works. MDZS characters will be besties with who (in your opinions) if they were in other universe, with characters from TGCF & SVSSS ? Please pick at least 3 characters from each series. Hope my questions are not confusing.....

Nie Huaisang would have been a big fan of Liu Mingiyan and Liu Mingyian would have appreciated NHS's collection of... educational books so she could write more exciting and diverse Smuts. Shang Qinghua would have found his way in and NHS & he would definitely get along very well. Shi Qingxuan & NHS would get along like a house on fire. (Though SQX would not get a word of what was said among NHS, LMY, & SQH he would enjoy the vibes & be happy to be there) And WWX naturally would belong to this group and bring JC with him. I don't know, maybe SQX, much like how happy he was to find a Ming-Xiong, and mess with General Nanyang would have been happy to meet Jiang Cheng, whether Jiang-Xiong felt the same or not? Or maybe not? Like... he apparently hadn't tried to make friends with Fengqing so maybe he wouldn't try to make friends with JC either (even if he did I think it wouldn't have been an especially deep relationship between them. It would be more like NHS's and JC's) WWX, SQX, and SQH would drag in LWJ, HX, & Mobei-Jun with them. Those three would absolutely say nothing and make no friends. Mobei-Jun (despite WWX and SQX's many attempts) and LWJ (despite SQX's many attempts) would stare in a dead inside way and He Xuan would eat. (Shen Qingqiu would have loved to join them but Liu Mingiyan would turn strangely quiet against NHS's questions when SQQ was around, so...)

I'd love to see Xue Yang, Qi Rong, and Sha Hualing interact! I believe They would get along very well. I'd love to see them take care of Guzi together, too! (Guzi would end up taking care of them.)

(Then Sha Hualing and Xuan Ji would inevitably cross paths and have a nice girl in-bathroom talk wherein Sha Hualing would try to knock some sense into Xuan Ji and tell her to know your worth, girl and it would result in Xuan Ji going you know what?! Maybe you're right maybe I SHOULD let go. To which Sha Hualing would answer WHAT?! NO WAY! KICK HIS A$$!!)

One lotus root pork soup from Jiang Yanli would work wonders for Shen Jiu (who needs an older sister). And I think JYL, since she apparently likes to surround herself with tsunderes would be fond of him, too. Shen Jiu might have crossed paths with fellow street rat A-Qing. The hissing cats would bond and form the deepest, and strongest frenemy relationship and stick together. Then Shen Jiu would inevitably end up meeting Xiao Xingchen. This group would fix him. Before breaking him even worse because of the whole...you know,... Yi City Arc. Then he'd be adopted by Yushi Huang or Baoshan Senren. Maybe Yushi Huang could promote A-Qing to godhood. their combination with Pei Su, Ban Yue, and Pei Ming could have been interesting.

Teenage Mu Qing-gege would also probably know A-Qing, Shen Jiu, and Yue Qinguuan. and occasionally give them food and keep an eye on them. This combo-minus YQY- might have also occasionally bitched about others with each other. (So the god adopting Shen Jiu and promoting A-Qing to godhood could be MQ, too)

Jiang Yanli would flourish if she could join Yushi Huang and have a peaceful positive maternal figure who cherished her talents and calm demeanor. JYL, Ban Yue, and Pei Xu would have helped each other. she would also enjoy interacting with SQX, and Xie Lian. and SQX would like her very much. She might have also had a soft spot for Mu Qing and looked out for him and what he didn't say.

Wei Wuxian and Hua Cheng would get into passive-aggressive rivalry in talent, sass, fashion, batshit theories and ideals, and sass. they would greatly enjoy their rivalry though. Maybe through Hua Cheng, WWX would meet He Xuan, too, and enjoy annoying him. He might form a very forced, very one-sided friendship with He Xuan, Which after a while of WWX imposing himself on him, HX might or might not come to miss in WWX's absence.

Ling Wen and Jin Guangyao would have a pleasant talk over tea about how incompetent everyone else is and how they have to do everything around here. Then slowly, they'd be joined by Yin Yu, Zhuzhi-lang, and Shang Qinghua. And then This talk would then turn into a union.

Wen Qing and Mu Qing would meet each other while healing others and they'd start to be mean judgemental bitches together. They have kind hearts. They save everyone's lives, but they also shoot death glares at everyone & bitch about everyone while doing it.

Wen Qing might have also befriended Ling Wen. She might have been recruited by Qi Qinqi.

Lan Xichen, Yue Qingyuan, Yushi Huang, and Xie Lian could drink tea together and have a pleasant conversation without an actual word that would lead to any personal knowledge about them being exchanged. Though any two combinations of this group could have a vague and not very revealing but definitely insightful conversation with each other.

I know Liu Qingge, Jiang Cheng, and Mu Qing are a popular combo of hissing cats. But these 3 could stay together in one room for centuries and do not utter a word to each other or make any other attempt at human connection. Xie Lian though, a certified bitch- specialist might want to befriend Jiang Cheng, Shen Jiu, and Liu Qingge.

Literally anyone could befriend Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan, obviously) . Especially the cloud recesses trio, especially Jiang Cheng. Jin Zixuan would have benefitted greatly from befriending SQQ. (Or maybe not. Who knows.)

Xie Lian and Xiao Xingchen would have a very pleasant short chat. A-qing and Xue Yang would also love the other Daozhang. This would result in A-Qing wanting to protect the Daozhang from mean strangers and Xue Yang wanting to torment Daozhang as a sign of his gratitude for his exemplary manners towards Xue Yang. Luckily XL wouldn't stick around this long.

The Juniors would look up to Liu Qingge and would love to be his disciples. (Especially JL who feels life LQG kinda has a similar attitude to his Jiujiu and reminds him of his jiujiu) they would get into- hopefully- friendly rivalries with Shen Qingqiu's disciples, especially Ning Yingying and Ming Fan. In time those two would join the Junior group as well.

Jin Ling would follow Feng Xin around because AN ARCHERY GOD! And since the juniors stick together, so would the three others. And since Fengqing are always together, the two southern gods would acquire a band of ducklings.

Qi Qingqi would immediately recruit Mianmian. Pei Ming would try to hit on Qi Qingqi and immediately realize his mistake. They'd eventually befriend each other and Qi Qingqi would gain a place among The Three Tumors. That would lead to Qi Qingqi meeting Ban Yue and recruiting her, too.

After Ling Wen recruited Jin Guangyao as a god to help her do paperwork, JGY would find a solid place for himself in The Three Tumors, too.

(Mostly SVSSS/TGCF interactions:

Tianlang-Jun, with his interest in polyamorous dramas, would follow 3Zun dramas intensely. Pei Ming would get curious about what he's observing like a soap opera and join him in watching that trashfire. they'd have a great time eating popcorn and doing commentaries together, and then Tianlang-Jun would pull an uno-reverse on Pei Ming by giving him advice on how to court Yushi Huang.

Jian Lan has big maternal instincts, and Luo Binghe is above all, a baby. So Jian Lan would become LBH's new ghost mama and Shen Qingqiu would get along splendidly with his new ghost mother-in-law.)

watched all of the untamed / cql in two weeks after my friend 1 told me abt mdzs a hundred years ago and my friends 2 and 3 tried to get me into cql for like two whole years and there are.

feelings.

very first scene is a very dramatic death in the middle of nightmare battle on sith planet land . i will forget abt it in the next tenish episodes and then will be very surprised when it becomes Extremely Painful

anyway magic flying gays and possession and human sacrifice! we are off to a great start

in retrospect, chaos goblin wei wuxian must have had a blast pretending to be so cRaZy and be as disruptive as he could as mo xuanyu lbr

listen. why is fire always evil coded. cant a magic clan wear red, black and orange and have flame motif while being wholesome?

that scene at lan qirens class where wwx talks about using resentful energy to fight a violent spirit. exquisite.

It establishes Good Student lan wangji, wei wuxian as curious and questioning and not afraid of taboo, lwj sees that wwx is not, in fact, a dumb ass hes just a Dumbass, shows us the audience (esp. a western audience) how shocking the idea of disrupting the dead/dying and controlling resentful energy actually is, the theoretical foreshadow arguing, everyone else like ‘shUT UP’, “and how could you ensure that the resentful energy would obey you and not hurt other?” “well i havent thought that far” and of course, lan qiren just straight up lobbing a hard object at wwx head,. chefs kiss

the costuming in this is also soooo exquisite. the embroidery? the fabrics? the details? how every sect and clan has a distinct style and architecture? (also ik they based each off of dif periods in chinese history which is REALLY fucking cool) just chefs kiss

the direction too!. i enjoy the unusual camera movements and i think they give it that Vibe, also their composition is PARTICULARLY good when it comes to telling the subtext through position of camera/position of character (like nhs off to the side in scenes he at first glance doesnt need to be/ how lwj is often centered when hes Jealous Yearning at wwx being affectionate w other ppl, wwx return from burial mounds etc)

ik madam yu is like Badass Milf Check and shes not getting any mom of the year awards but im delighted at how messy she is. IMAGINE that woman on tiktok

wwx like... having thrown his whole life away to help the wens (yeah the sect leaders and jin guangshan in particular wanting his stygian tiger amulet was an Element but still) and not.... necessarily regretting it, but grappling with all of the consequences of it... becoming moody and drepressed at times, missing his family and lotus pier and his friends and probably simply missing being around people and causing trouble, extrovert that he is, lashing out at the wens and at a-yuan, just in general the whole messiness of that experience

the way the resentful energy does affect his temperament is rly nice bc its not too in your face,(i mean outside of the Shaky Hands of Rage) but like he clearly has a much lesser control on his anger and impulsivity (tall order) than both before bm and after hes ressurected

and its JUST, all they ever wanted was to do good but then... war. and trauma. and hubris.

jiang cheng on the ground clearly thorn between what to do and feel is a Mood, lets just say

Worst engagement AU // on AO3 (though I’ll likely only post this chapter there tomorrow)

Set not very long after lwj and nhs silently bonding over bunnies. gonna blame @denira whose tags on the aforementioned chapter inspired me :D

Lan Qiren is busy today, so it is Lan Xichen who supervises Lan Wangji's guqin practice. It is what Lan Wangji prefers, although he knows better than to say it. Lan Qiren is more experienced, more skilled, and this is the superior teacher. But Lan Xichen is kinder when his brother makes a mistake, preferring to encourage rather than scold, so Lan Wangji is weak and prefers him.

When the lesson is over, Lan Xichen praises his brother for how well he did while Lan Wangji goes to carefully put away his guqin. When he comes back, he finds Lan Xichen looking at something on his desk. He was supposed to tidy it earlier, but got distracted. It is irresponsible of him, and if Lan Qiren were here, he would scold his nephew.

Lan Wangji is really glad it was his brother with him today.

“Wanji, this painting is very good,” Lan Xichen remarks, picking up something from the desk. “When did you make it?”

Considering he has not painted in a while, the question takes Lan Wangji by surprise. He cannot think of any recent work he might not have yet shown his brother. The mystery is quickly lifted when he comes closer and finds his brother holding the painting that Nie Huaisang gave him. Lan Xichen is right to call it good, of course, and Lan Wangji knows he should immediately disperse the misunderstanding that it is his own work.

Lan Wangji knows, also, that his brother is not very impressed by Nie Huaisang's skills. He cannot be blamed. Nie Huaisang is a very poor cultivator who doesn't even have a golden core yet, and Lan Wangji understands that in the world they live in, that is unforgivable for someone from such a prestigious sect as Qinghe Nie. Until recently, Lan Wangji simply agreed with his brother's disappointment, mostly due to never interacting with the other boy himself.

But since then there's been that afternoon with the rabbits, and Lan Wangji feels a little more positively toward his future brother-in-law. After all, Nie Huaisang didn't try to force him into tedious conversation as most people do, didn't tease him for his enjoyment of rabbits as other children did when he was younger. And, of course, Nie Huaisang gave him that beautiful painting where the rabbits look as if they might just hop from the page and started frolicking around.

Nie Huaisang doesn't look like much, but there might be more to him than can be seen on the surface.

“Brother thinks it's good?” Lan Wangji asks.

Lying by omission or implication is wrong. He'll have to be punished for it later. Handstands perhaps. But since Nie Huaisang gave him a gift, Lan Wangji feels like giving one in return.

“It's excellent,” Lan Xichen assures him, unable to take his eyes off the painting and smiling with open admiration. “I didn't know you had progressed so much! The lines flow beautifully, you're making them look relaxed and yet still ready to stir at the first noise... and the shading is simple but very good, it really brings them to life. Their shape is good too, very true to life, I particularly like their eyes and noses. Wangji, I think this is better than most of what I've done recently.”

Since Lan Wangji has little taste for pictorial arts, he doesn't care too much that this praise is not directed at his actual work. He only paints because it's what a man of good education must do. But he has seen how Nie Huaisang looked when he was painting, and knows his future brother-in-law must feel differently.

Usually Nie Huaisang always looks like he's about to cry if someone so much as looks his way, but that afternoon he was so focused that nothing seemed to touch him. Lan Wangji is half sure that if he hadn't been there to be the reasonable one, Nie Huaisang would have stayed painting until the very last ray of sunlight, perhaps even after night fell if the moon was bright enough. Everyone says he's lazy, but clearly that's not what's the problem with him.

“Nie Huaisang gifted me this painting,” Lan Wangji announces. “He made it himself.”

The silence that follows is to be expected. Since Lan Xichen has a low opinion of Nie Huaisang, it is normal for him to be surprised by the skill his fiancé hides under all that shyness. But after seeing what Nie Huaisang is capable of, it is obvious that Lan Xichen will have to rethink his position. There is no shame in being wrong, only in refusing to learn from it, the rules say.

“He lied to you,” Lan Xichen says without hesitation.

“He did not,” Lan Wangji calmly protests. “I saw him paint it.”

“I did not know you ever spent time with him,” Lan Xichen remarks, now inspecting the painting more critically, as if trying to find faults in it. “I suppose he might have painted it. The composition isn't very good, and the proportions of those poor rabbits is laughable. If they really looked this fat, they'd have ended up as a fox's dinner already.”

Lan Wangji stares at his brother, shocked by the sudden change.

“Brother said the painting was excellent. Was that a lie?”

“It is better than what you usually do,” Lan Xichen concedes, though it seems to pain him to say even this. “I was trying to encourage you. I know this is not an art you favour.”

“Brother said this was better than his own work.”

For some reason, Lan Xichen's entire face turns red at having his own words thrown back at him. He looks.

He looks angry.

Lan Wangji feels baffled.

If it were him in his brother's place, he'd be relieved to find that his fiancé isn't completely useless. In fact, his biggest hope for the future is that whoever his uncle and father pick for him to marry will be someone musically inclined, like him, so that they can at least have one thing in common. Since Lan Xichen enjoys painting a great deal, he should be glad to discover that it is a passion that Nie Huaisang shares, and that he shares it well.

“He must have copied it from somewhere,” Lan Xichen announces. “From memory perhaps, but there is no way Nie Huaisang made something like that on his own. Mingjue has told me that his brother and him have had little training in non martial arts, and it is simply impossible for someone self-taught to make something like this without help. I'm afraid he fooled you, Wangji.”

This conversation is starting to be upsetting, Lan Wangji decides.

Not because he thinks he was fooled. He was there, he saw the rabbits in that exact position, with the exact markings that Nie Huaisang depicted. There is no doubt that the work is entirely due to Nie Huaisang's skill.

What is upsetting, then, is to see his brother so unbending in his dislike of his fiancé. Coming from someone else, it would be understandable. Most people are petty, Lan Wangji has found out. But his brother has always been a model of virtue to him, always patient and kind and willing to give everyone a chance. In all of Lan Wangji's life, he has never seen his brother dislike someone so strongly. Even with Jin Zixun, who Lan Wangji wants to silence every time he opens his mouth, Lan Xichen manages to stay patient and polite.

Everyone has to dislike someone, it is only human, but out of every person they have met, Lan Wangji can't fathom why his brother has decided to dislike Nie Huaisang. It's like disliking a shrub or a rabbit. One can do it, and it is easy to take one's anger on it, but what good does it do anyone to hate something that can't defend itself?

It is odd for Lan Xichen to be so unreasonable.

“Did Nie Huaisang offend brother?” Lan Wangji careful asks.

That too sounds odd, if only because Nie Huaisang is so meek and shy that it seems unlikely he'd talk enough to ever insult anyone. And still, Lan Xichen frowns at the question, his expression turning darker.

“Why are you so interested in Nie Huaisang all of a sudden? You've never seemed to notice him before when he visited.”

“I like the painting,” Lan Wangji replies which wasn't exactly untrue, even if it isn't the entire truth. It was nice, that afternoon. Most guest disciples are too rowdy for his tastes, or them move in large groups that he doesn't want to deal with. As for Lan disciples, of course they are quiet, but most of them are a little scared of him for his connection to Lan Qiren and the sect leader. Besides, whenever he's tried to mention his interest in anything but cultivation, and especially in rabbits, they always look at him as if he's grown a second head.

But Nie Huaisang was quiet, and he liked the rabbits enough to paint them.

“Nie Huaisang seems nice,” Lan Wangji says, feeling very daring for going against his brother's opinion. Maybe this is the start of that rebellious phase that Lan Qiren always seems to worry about.

Lan Xichen shoots him a surprised look.

“Is one mediocre painting really all it takes to buy your friendship, Wangji?”

“It's a good painting,” Lan Wangji points out. Then, after some consideration and for the sake of honesty, he adds: “We are not friends. But he is nice. I do not mind that he will join the family.”

This time, there's definitely a hint of wilful rebellion to his words. Lan Wangji knows it's wrong, that he must respect his elders, and Lan Xichen does count as an elder even if there's just a few years between them.

But really, it's not his fault that Lan Xichen is so unreasonable.

“I see you've decided to be difficult today,” Lan Xichen has the galls to say. “If you want to pity Nie Huaisang, go ahead I suppose. Good luck with getting him to say more than two words at once.”

Lan Wangji nods. Nie Huaisang is quiet. That is the nice thing about him. He also doesn't seem to have any expectations about Lan Wangji, never once bothering him since that afternoon with the rabbits, never seeking him out.

Lan Wangji likes it when people are quiet and don't bother him.

“I'll see you at dinner,” Lan Xichen announces, dropping the painting as if it is a particularly disgusting thing. “I hope you're less contradictory by then.”

Lan Wangji watches him go, still a little baffled that his brother somehow found something to hate in a person as bland and innocuous as Nie Huaisang. Then, when he is alone, he picks up the painting and carefully puts it away.

After all, as Lan Xichen himself said, it's an excellent painting, and must be treated accordingly.

I was scrolling through my dash, as one does, and saw .gifs of the scene where the juniors are defending WWX to Sect leader Yao, and I was just smiling and thinking “ah, the kids are all right this time, it will be better”. And then I realized that ... the kids were all right the previous generation, too? And it would have been so easy to see them band together, especially after everything?

Hear me out. In essence, there’s no difference between the juniors and the ... OG juniors. (We need a name for them. Is there a name for that generation??? Cause we have the parents, and we have the juniors, what are WWX&co named??? Whatever, I’m sticking with OG juniors.) Each of these groups went through shitty situations, the OGs arguably through worse with the war and all. But before the war, we have 2 major bonding moments: the Cloud Recesses classes, and the Wen indoctrination. What if they actually bonded together, and their relationships were more flushed out? (Keep in mind I only saw the live-action drama, so that’s what I’m basing everything on.)

So, Cloud Recesses. You have the Jiangs, and then NSH, LWJ, WN and WQ added to the group, more or less willingly. JZX is still being a little bitch, but whatever, he’s there too, along with MianMian, who is arguably his biggest contribution. I will admit, there are ... levels ... of closeness. But you have the three gremlins getting together, and LWJ pulled in (again, levels), you have star-struck WN and tough WQ (who, need I remind you, took care of JYL at least once, which I bet the latter will not forget). You have LQR spitting blood because the boy is definitely his mother’s son, but LXC smiling indulgently, seeing his little brother finally make friends. (And LQR will remember that CSR was mischief made human form, and her son definitely follows in her footsteps, but both of them wanted always to help and not destroy, so there is definitely something wrong with the accusations that WWX wants to take over the world. And LXC will remember the Wen boy who stayed behind to save one of their own, and the Wei boy who dived in to help them both, and will not believe the grim tales of the fierce Ghost General and the Yiling Patriarch.)

After CR, WWX/LWJ/JC/NHS have their little murder adventure, with a WQ cameo. LWJ is added to the gremlin dynamic and sure, he might not feel like he fits in at first, but WWX cannot seem to stay away from him, and he suffers in silence with JC while WWX is being an idiot and risking his life, omg, stop that, get down you demented cat, and then finds that there’s a certain bond little brothers with big brothers larger-than-life have, and maybe having two more friends is. Acceptable. They’re all supposed to be 15-16 at this point, teenage boys that started this adventure fully confident, at least on the outside. And then Xue Yang happens. And this is, I think, one of the biggest turning point for these four. Because, to a certain degree, all of them rely on rules. Their own, if nothing else. And here is a guy who just ... wants to see the world burn. He kills with no remorse, admits it gleefully, and is just awful in so many ways. This is their first brush with how brutal the outside world is, when they start to doubt themselves and their convictions. But then! XXC and SL appear, and it’s a breath of fresh air! Because there are terrible people and worse situations, but as long as they hold fast in their beliefs and work together and trust eachother, they can beat them!

So they go to the Unclean Realm, and they meet Daddy NMJ. And he’s been watching them approach, and he sees his little brother laughing with the boy in black, he sees him cackling while the one in purple is swinging his fists around; he sees him share a smile with Xichen’s little brother while the other two are laughing so hard they’re bent over so far they’re almost falling to the ground. And he doesn’t show it, because the Red Blade Master is gruff, and tough, and mighty, but in his heart he’s already adopted these kids who include his baby brother in their circle with so much ease, it’s hard to imagine him on the outside. (And in the future, when people are yelling about WWX’s darkness, this is the image he will have in his head: four boys being innocent and happy and his, how dare you try to touch them?!)

Cloud Recesses burns. LXC is nowhere. And then. The biggest paradigm shift - the indoctrination. Everyone arrives in Nightless City. The three OG gremlins watch LWJ back to his jade statue default, they lose their swords, they are on the same side with JZX and WWX/JC don’t know which one of these frustrates them more. It should be the looming war. It’s probably the JZX part. Now, I assume they spend at least a few weeks there, I don’t remember if it’s mentioned. But WWX always tried to get in front, to catch WC’s attention. (Because he’s the disposable one, right? High enough in status that WC is satisfied when he gets to punish him, but not a sect heir, not someone who will bring down a whole sect if he dies. Little does he know.) So don’t tell me that the others don’t rally around him. (Discreetly of course. They learn fast that he just gets more protective if others are hurt because of him.) There’s nothing stronger than a common enemy, and the Wens and WC, specifically, are definitely that. So they watch, and they remember WWX being beaten, whipped, humiliated, all so that others will not be. Not to mention that one night that he doesn’t tell even JC about, because it would crush his little brother to know he couldn’t keep his promise. They remember him staying behind so that they have a chance to escape the murder turtle. (And after the war, when the adults will try to damn WWX for being too arrogant and too prideful, the OG juniors will remember the kid who stood up to the Wen clan and has the scars to prove it, and all to protect them. Where was Jin Guangshan? Where was Sect leader Yao?)

Lotus pier burns. WWX disappears. JC and LWJ look for him for 3 months. And then. And then he comes back. And he burns the Sun to the ground, using dark cultivation and corpses and no sword, and everything that they were taught not to do, ever. And he succeeds where everyone else fails.

Afterwards, when the dust settles but not really, when life comes back to normal but not quite, when things become too boring apparently, the young ones see their elders muttering. And gossip. And look a bit too much at WWX, too closely. But this was a generation forged in the fires of war. They were not like their parents, who had time to figure out their shit and then go to battle, no. They were kids when it all started. There are no more kids amongst them now.

So when the minor sect leaders, subtly encouraged by JGS and JGY, talk about the “young” LC being a leader at such a young age with honeyed words that hide rot, NMJ and LXC rise to his defense. Both of them became sect leaders at young ages, both of them know how hard it is. LQR rises as well and the older ones expect him to be on their side, but they forget LQR got entrusted with a clan and 2 children that he was not supposed to have, so he will never demean another who was in an even worse position, but rose to the occasion despite everything that happened. The Lans promote knowledge and learning above all, and many people can learn a lot from Sandu Shengshou, wouldn’t you agree Sect leader Yao?

When the Jin sect complains about the Stygian Tiger Seal, rumors begin to spread from behind hand painted fans that they are after the artifacts of other sects. After all, does WWX not belong to YungmengJiang? Therefore, do his creations not belong to the sect as well? Who’s to say they won’t go after the treasures of the other sects next?

When JYL destroys Jin Zixun at Phoenix Mountain, JZX steps up to the plate and stands behind his fiancee. WWX is obviously her little brother that she cares deeply about, he will be his future brother-in-law, and honestly Zixun where were you even during the war?? You have demands now because?? Go shoot some arrows and chill. (JC is just standing there with crossed arms, looking at Jin Zixun without blinking, keeping a tight grip over Zidian who is the definition of “lemme at him!!!” Jiejie doesn’t like it when he slices and dices people, although she’s not leaving much for him to chew on. It’s the most fun he’s had in years.)

When JGY sweetly suggest that there might be a viper poised to strike them in the back, NHS innocently asks “but San-Ge, didn’t your blow to WRH’s back help us win the war?” (NMJ has never loved his brother more than when he roasts JGY. Really, he could cry with pride. Here, A-Sang, there’s that fan you wanted. I ordered new birdcages to be build back home, you can have all the birds you want. Training is ... postponed.)

When news about the labor camps and the slaughtered Wens are revealed, many stay silent. A few of them cheer. But there are also a few that remember a boy willing to save someone from drowning, willing to risk his life to save the dead bodies of two parents. They remember the best doctor of their generation helping them heal, and rest, and save their loved ones. They remember that they are not the only children who were taken by this war, that they were not the only ones forced to make awful choices that haunt their dreams. They remember that it’s easy to stand back, but yet there was always one who stood up for the others, who would stand up for them, so how can they not stand with him now when he most need it?

WWX is not alone. The YungmengJiang clan is not alone. These kids went through hell and back in the past couple of years, and they will be damned if they will let another rise in WRH’s place. This ends now.

Episode 8

Teens are on the loose! We will have adventures, we will get into mortal peril, and we can't keep secrets to save our lives! I love that we have Wei Wuxian chasing after Lan Wangji because he doesn't want to be left out of their quest, Jiang Cheng chasing after Wei Wuxian because he's sure his brother is an idiot, and then Nie Huaisang is there because he doesn't want to go home. Here we begin see that the (other 4) great clans are really behind the eight ball on this, and it's only going to get worse. Anyway, I have a surfeit of things to say, so without further adieu:

• So we go backwards a bit to have Wei Wuxian try and find Wen Ning, only to see that all traces of the Wens are gone. I like to think that strolling up to haul Wen Ning out for archery practice or other fun was just a thing that Wei Wuxian did regularly. My guess would be no since Wen Qing is there to be protective and not rock the boat with the rest of the Wens, but I think it's a fun theory anyway, so I'm gonna roll with it

• Back with bunnies, and I just want to point out here that Wei Wuxian is perfectly capable of holding an entire conversation on his own. Baby, that bunny cannot speak to you and if it could it would ask you to put it down!

• Wait, wait, wait - they really just tossed rabbits around like that for filming?!? I really hope that they did that one in one take. Please treat your rabbits with kindness!

• When Lan Wangji leaves and bids the rabbits farewell, he just looks so soft! I just want to cover him in bunnies. My guess, Wei Wuxian went back for the rabbits on his own, which of course was noticed by Lan Wangji, but he couldn't join because his brain went bluescreen at the cuteness of it.

• Wen Chao sucks

• Wen Chao is out in the rain and antagonizing Lan Xichen, just the look on Lan Xichen's face makes me believe that above and beyond the whole "your dad is trying to take over the world" thing these two have hated each other for years

• Wei Wuxian leaves in the middle of the night to chase after Lan Wangji, smart move as Lan Wangji is likely to sleep when it is dark, and WWX has some ground to cover. It's the smiley face though! Gets me every time. Just leave a note that says "I'm off to find danger! 😀" Not comforting, baby, just not comforting. Jiang Cheng clearly agrees with me

• Jiang Fengmian, what am I going to do with you? Actually, all the Sect leaders all seem to be locked up with an inability to act. Lan Xichen can do nothing to protect his brother right now, Jiang Fengmian can only acquiesce to WWX leaving and hope that things work out, Jin Guangshan is an asshat, and we haven't seen Nie Mingjue yet

• My babies are together again! And Lan Wangji, darling, please stop pretending you don't like him. I fully believe that Wei Wuxian is just talking to talk, he's offended to be left behind since he's an amazing companion in his own not so humble opinion, and literally the only thing he gets from LWJ is "how boring"

• Wen Chao sucks, but I want to know more about this bird

• The look on Lan Wangji's face when he gets hit with bonding/binding! It's 100% "bitch, you didn't!" which moves into 90% "fuck my life" and 10% "this is kinda hot"

• Yin Iron signal!! You are headed in the right direction! Okay let's be real here - does this mean that they picked a direction and decided that eventually it would work out? Because why, exactly?

• Nie Huaisang: "I know that laugh! I will pal around with my good friend Wei Wuxian instead of going home!" Sweetheart, why do you do this to your brother?

• In all honesty, I do think that WWX and NHS do see a reflection of themselves in the other. Conversation is easy, inside jokes are created on a whim, they can see how smart the other is, and their reasons for not conforming to the "I am intelligent and capable" mold

• Jiang Cheng is sneeking out of Lotus Peir via the very obvious front door. Really? That's about a subtle and sneaky as a ball through a window. Oh summer child, you have much to learn.

• I kinda can see that Jiang Cheng is worried about Wei Wuxian, after all they are brothers and Wei Wuxian's overconfidence is super obvious to Jiang Cheng, but the main reason he leaves is so that he isn't left out. There's a super cute story about a similar thing I did following my sister on a tricycle, so I get it.

• Jiang Yanli (my treasure) has now been left by both her brothers to deal with home life. Yikes!

• Back in Tanzhou, we learn that Lan Wangji does not like crowds (unsurprising), but that he will still follow Wei Wuxian (as long as he is pulled along), and that Nie Huaisang is good at remembering things. Also that Lan Wangji is the best looking man alive. The look on WWX's face when NHS says that is perfect. It's a blend of "oh, I see now, yes!" And "why are you noticing that" and "just fell more in love, thanks!"

• The poor florist lady's place is entirely ash - Wen Chao super sucks, and I still want to know more about this "Dire Owl"

• Wen Qing is really trying, both in her attempt to herd Wen Chao (who sucketh) in another direction and her subsequent "fight" with Jiang Cheng to give him a direction. I do feel bad for the innkeeper though, poor man doesn't know who to serve and ends up not serving anyone

• Sure, let's follow the terrified old woman into the creepy ghost town, surely we'll find a place to stay for the night! It even feels weird to WWX, and they still continue on! But she said "spirit snatch" so off to obviously, now we climb a mountain (that's at least a mile straight up) to investigate

• Old man "you should leave, this statue (naturally formed btw) steals souls, but if you're going to stay, you might as well stay here. Night!" Old lady - here's some kindling

• Well, we're in for a creepy night in soul snatch temple! Might as well get what sleep we can until it all goes to hell

• In the fight with the statue we have impressive displays of teamwork and bravery (and hiding: NHS) and I love that bonding/binding is useful! I've also noticed it's now a gold color. At the end of it she's back where she belongs

• Zombies are here! Sorry, I mean puppets. I know that they are about to converge on the temple, but sir, why do you have a bucket? And what is that wheel going to do? It really just looks like they are headed to make camp somewhere.

• Trapped in a temple! Those doors are not sturdy, kids. Better figure out what your going do when they fail

hi its 3am and i wrote down dnd au shit that im putting under cut bc its. long

pre-canon is mostly the same with minor differences bc d&d magic at play

jyl and jzx die but they're ok bc true resurrection baby. maybe it takes them a while to be resurrected bc, at the time, resurrection is a fairly new spell/VERY expensive (requires diamonds worth 25k gp in game)/no one was high enough level to cast the spell and also the spell is taxing on the caster/resurrection is taboo (not sure abt that one). anyways they live and raise jl :) jc is still angry but for different reasons and he's also Not As Angry and misses his brother. wwx doesn't know that jyl/jzx lived

wwx doesn't die. during the bloodbath of nightless city, he manages to destroy one half of the stygian tiger seal but before he can destroy the other, the siege on the burial mounds happens. he planeshifts to the 9 hells to escape taking the remaining half with him. such spells were completely unknown at the time and were of wwx's invention so ppl just assumed he died/killed himself. he stays in hell for 13 years (part cultivating his powers/part thinking he deserves it) before finally returning to the material plane thx to mxy

during those 13 years, ppl definitely try to reach him. BUT considering he's on another plane of existence, they often fail. communication spells like sending usually fail but Some do reach him, though he thinks he's just going crazy or it's just wishful thinking. (jyl successfully sends him a message like "a-xian? are you there? …well, wherever you are, i hope you're ok. i miss you. i love you. we all do. please come back." and wwx thinks it isn't real. he DEFINITELY cries when he finds out it actually was real and he wasn't losing his mind in hell)

REGARDING WWX'S POWERS: no one has done it like him!! forming a pact with a fiend was practically unheard of/extremely taboo and the fact that he managed to outgrow his patron in terms of power (lvl 20 baby) is something in of itself. wwx is like The First Warlock Ever and after his "death" many others tried to follow in his footsteps, however no one came even close in terms of power. xy maybe but fuck that guy lol

MXY LIVES!!! bc of reasons he manages to get his hands on a deck of many things from the jin vault (perhaps nhs had a hand in it :eyes:) and draws a wish card on the first try (Very Lucky). he uses that card to essentially wish a pact with the yiling patriarch into existence and over in hell wwx is like "hey wtf is going on" and pops into mxy's shed to see what's up

wq also lives!! jgs covered up her death and wn and her bust out of jinlintai when wwx calls

CURRENT-CANON:

mxy and wwx have a patron/ward relationship. wwx Knows he's not like his own patron and has no desire for mxy's soul or w/e so he's just "yea fine i guess i'll be your evil teacher :/"

wtf is wwx's patron anyway lol…..maybe it's a demon/fiendish entity that resided in the burial mounds that wwx formed a pact with to survive. it probably hangs out on another plane of existence and was partly responsible for his deteriorating mental state.

at mo manor, the mo family dies without mxy or wwx rlly having to do anything. mxy uses his fledgling warlock skills to help out the lan juniors with the arm. lwj shows up after and wwx's like AH FUCK and dips with mxy following after him

wwx uses mask of many faces to disguise himself in his humansona (bc like. he's a tiefling and also very recognizable, being the yiling patriarch and all no biggie) and has bonding moments with mxy. mxy realizes that wwx is not actually evil incarnate; he's actually a fucking dumbass ESPECIALLY when the man starts talking about lwj. (idk how this plays in but I want wwx to complain abt lwj like "i used to be taller than him, now we're the same height?? bullshit >:(" bc i am spreading my short lwj propaganda)

mxy and wwx run into jl at some point. wwx is like :'( when he finds out who it is, jl is a baby homophobe and mxy is like I Will Tell Your Mother to which wwx goes WHAT. BACK UP bc surprise, jyl's actually alive! while he's reeling with this information, mxy drags him away

at dafan mountain, mxy and wwx help out the juniors with the goddess statue. wwx summons wn and jc is like HEY WAIT A SECOND. he goes to hit wwx with zidian (still has the ability to knock possessive spirits but it also has dispel magic, not good for wwx's disguise!) however mxy deflects it with *fjord critical role voice* Eldritch Blast earning lwj's respect. anyways lwj takes both mxy and wwx back to the cloud recesses; mxy doesn't see what's the big deal, wwx is freaking out and Desperately wants to planeshift out of there but he has a ward now and disappearing like that would mean the jigs up considering no one else can planeshift

at the cloud recesses, mxy ditches wwx with lwj so the two can have a Talk to go chill. lwj is like "wei ying drop the humansona i know it's you" and wwx goes :O well. after, mxy comes back and is like "ok so here's the deal with the arm" and spills what he knows abt jgy and what he did and the 3 of them head off to get evidence

I Do Not Remember much of their whole like journey to piece nmj's body back together but it'd probably go much faster with mxy alive and knowledgeable to jgy's shit

wangxian are still gay and stupid

idk abt yi city but songxiao and a-qing get a better ending and xy eats shit

there will def be a yunmeng sib reunion.

POST-CANON:

pulling a page from cql, lwj is chief cultivator but only so he can like. actually do some good then once he's done dismantles the position or smth so he can live out his house husband dreams with wwx

wwx still goes on that journey so he can relearn what it's like to be a person in society and not someone hated and demonized. also he lived in literal hell for 13 years, dude needs time to process that. but u KNOW when he comes back, he's eloping with lwj

with all the pieces of nmj's body back together, nhs true resurrects him :)

Episode 10: The One with ANOTHER Moonlit Rooftop Moment

Still surrounded by dead bodies, guys. There is, unfortunately, an abundance of plot this time

But let’s slog through it BC OUR BOYS ARE WORTH IT

So right now we meet Xue Yang, Xiao Xingchen, and Song Lan

Love ya guys, but we’re not here for you today

(even tho xxc is the most beautiful elf prince of a boy i’ve ever seen; no wonder xy gets all obsessed with him and song lan falls in love)

Plot plot, xy and xxc have a sword fight, plot plot

Oooh, wait there is an itty bitty piece of WangXiantics here

Wwx uses his Magic Rope of Binding/Bonding to reel XY in like a fish and proceeds to yank him about while he tries to have a sword fight with xxc

(NO ONE’S ALLOWED TO HAVE ROMANTIC SWORD FIGHTS IN THE MOONLIGHT EXCEPT ME AND LWJ -- wwx, probably)

So he does this, and then throws a little grin at lwj and teases “lan zhan, are you still bored?”

He says this as if it was done to purposely inconvenience him specifically

I mean, the shot of him walking away is done so that we can see wwx perched on the rooftop above him and lwj does that stately strut he has

This was...so hard, guys. So difficult. A trial, even. I had to wait for an ENTIRE HALF-HOUR TO GET A SIGNIFICANT PIECE OF WANGXIAN PIE.

I mean, yeah, i got to see xxc’s beautiful face, but GOD, AT WHAT COST??

Also, are you guys starting to notice a Thing about rooftops?

Because it’s there.

Isn’t the part when WWX makes LWJ drink actually constructed as a variation on the scene in the book where WWX is trying to sneak over the wall with alcohol and is caught by LWJ, so he makes him fall outside the CR boundaries thinking that it’ll get him out of being punished only for LWJ to punish them both while in that CQL scene, LWJ surprises WWX actually drinking, so WWX immobilizes LWJ and makes him drink in turn, allowing JC and NHS to make a strategic exit? WWX has no way of knowing1/5

that a single sip of wine would make LWJ blackout drunk, so he was just trying to make LWJ an accomplice in their illegal drinking with the same motivation of escaping punishment that the wall scene. Shooting the scene as it was in the book with people falling over walls would probably have been complicated, expensive and not good looking on screen if the other fall scenes in the drama are anything to go by, plus by making LWJ drunk and destroying his inhibitions, it allowed to set up the2/5

next scene where WWX and LWJ shares a bonding moment about their pasts to advance the LWJ and WWX bonding as friends when young CQL-only subplot, a scene that could never have taken place with a sober LWJ at that point in the story, as well as making LWJ immediately more sympathetic to the audience by revealing all his hidden vulnerabilities (Wang Yibo did such a good job acting in that part of the scene!). So imo, that scene is way more than just a throwaway gag. And yeah, the talisman3/5

seems overpowered, though iirc it was more of a body control talisman than a mind control talisman and one which seems to be activated only at very close distance, so it’s not really some plot changing magic because if a cultivator gets that close to you, way worse things that a control talisman can happen. Actually, nothing in the scene goes against the interpretation that it requires big amounts of energy to activate4/5

or that it’s a talisman WWX invented himself and never released to the public.5/5

Here’s the thing. WWX didn’t know one sip would make LWJ blackout drunk? Sure, okay. You know what he did know? THAT LWJ DIDN’T WANT TO DRINK ALCOHOL. THAT IT WAS AGAINST THE RULES THAT LWJ WAS DETERMINED TO UPHOLD AT ALL COST. THAT FORCING SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING AGAINST THEIR WILL IS WRONG. It’s not about him not knowing that LWJ is a Super Mega Lightweight, or about him giving JC and NHS a quick exit, it’s about him forcing LWJ to drink against his will and without his consent! Also I’d argue that them talking about their pasts in the next scene makes it worse, because that is information that LWJ would not have shared with WWX at that point in the story if he was sober. That was deeply personal! Honestly I’m of the opinion that even if WWX was going to force LWJ to drink and (granted, accidentally) get him drunk, he should have stopped him from talking about his past because LWJ is a deeply private person who would not have shared that with WWX if he was in his right mind. Not to mention that LWJ canonically does not remember anything after he drinks, so it’s not a fair and equal exchange of information; it’s WWX getting deeply personal information about LWJ that he remembers while not giving LWJ anything after LWJ wakes up and, if I remember right, not even telling him LWJ gave him such personal information. Even if WWX doesn’t know LWJ won’t remember anything, as someone who drinks A Lot he probably knows drunk people don’t always remember what happened the next day. You say this scene could never take place at this point in the story if LWJ was sober? I say that that means having it take place at this point in the story is a representation of a huge betrayal of LWJ’s trust (what little trust he had in WWX, anyway) on WWX’s part.

And if WWX and LWJ falling off a wall wouldn’t have looked good, they could have filmed at the front gate and handwaved WWX using the main entrance instead of climbing over the wall with him being tired or something, not to mention that it not looking great has never stopped them before and doesn’t stop them after this point. Yeah, this scene is a variation on a scene in the novel, but the addition of alcohol and a talisman that allows WWX to force LWJ to do what he wants to it as opposed to a simple push during a fight makes it way more complicated than just changing the setting or order of events!

And also... you say it was to show LWJ’s hidden vulnerabilities early on. First off, they did a good job of setting up that there were hidden, more vulnerable parts to him with Wang Yibo’s excellent microexpressions; they could easily have left it at that and then added a scene during the Yin Iron thing or in the Xuanwu’s cave where the two of them have a heart to heart about their pasts with both of them sober and fully aware and avoided this whole mess. Second... they didn’t have to. LWJ is pretty damn popular in the novel fanbase without having to spill his backstory the first time he and WWX are alone together! CQL could’ve just had someone mention that LWJ’s parents were dead, and then had WWX ask about it at a time when they were close enough that such a question would be reasonable. Or have LWJ choose to tell him at a time when LWJ is comfortable with it, showing him opening up to WWX and letting himself be seen beyond his outer appearance and mask of cool disinterest! I’d say that would be much more effective than having LWJ get drunk and spill the beans because that’s just what he does when WWX asks him questions while he’s drunk!

Also re the talisman itself, a) whether it’s body control or mind control doesn’t really make much of a difference as far as what it does is concerned as it still seems to allow WWX to force whoever’s affected by it to do whatever he wants them to and b) if it’s a talisman, WWX can presumably use it the same way he uses any other talisman, and he can launch those things pretty far; he just didn’t have to because LWJ was right beside him. Also I’d argue the fact that there’s no evidence of WWX having any difficulty activating suggests that if nothing else it’s not exhausting to use, and in situations like... I don’t know, the Xuanwu cave with WC or the fall of Lotus Pier where being able to take control of the person giving orders would make their situation way less perilous I’d argue a little exhaustion would be worth it anyway. It’s the same problem as the donghua giving WWX the ability to rip out golden cores only for him to not use it after it’s introduced; if you give someone a power that could change the sequence of events significantly, you have to explain why they’re not using it in situations where it would be useful.

University AU: “Negative Space”

[ok so, self projection is a bitch, but I am petty to myself on a regular basis so it’s ok]

[title is from the Japanese concept “ma”, which Wikipedia describes as:

“a Japanese word which can be roughly translated as ‘gap’, ‘space’, ‘pause’ or ‘the space between two structural parts.’ In traditional Japanese arts and culture, ma is more carefully defined as the suggestion of an interval. It is best described as a consciousness of a sense of place, with the ‘intervals’ suggested often being more than simple gaps, instead focusing on the intention of a negative space in an art piece.

Ma is not necessarily an art concept created by compositional elements, such as the literal existence of a negative space. Instead, the intention is often to create the perception of an interval in the viewer experiencing the elements forming an art piece, making maless reliant on the existence of a gap, and more closely related to the perceived experience of a gap.

Ma has also been described as ‘an emptiness full of possibilities, like a promise yet to be fulfilled’, and as ‘the silence between the notes which make the music’.”

Fun fact: “ma” also means “but” in Italian, which is what usually follows whatever intrusive thought may plague my mind. Eg: “I may be useless now, BUT just you wait until I get some dopamine to get me through this shitty times.”]

Wei Ying never asked for much in his life. He’s content with cleaning classrooms and toilets and nobody can beat him at wiping the marble floors if he works hard enough. Granny Wen, his supervisor, is slightly impressed with his ability to make the wood shine for ages to come. His nephew Jin Ling sometimes comes to check on him when he’s done with senior classes or cram school in the evening, and together they sit down and listen to whatever his older friends in music production came up with during the day. Jiang Cheng occasionally would ask him to keep him company while he grades papers and they bitch about ZiXuan and his inability to dote on their sister. The cafeteria ladies are always nice to him and they give him extra congee because they worry for his questionable consumption of spice products.

He’s fine, really.

So why can’t he stop wandering over to the science building these days? Looking for a clean board to use, for an equation to finally solve? Even if in the end he just takes the chalk in hand and simply stares down at the inky surface in front of him, unable to write. His mind working on a software too advanced for the hardware that constitutes his brain.

Thirteen years. It has been already thirteen years and yet it feels like yesterday, or like it never happened at all. Like it has yet to be. Time blindness is a bitch to deal with, yet dyscalculia and ADHD makes a joke out of you when you love math on a visceral level... but you burned too bright too fast and now you function on no data and with an even shittier signal. Having a burnout at 23 should have taught him humility instead of pride, but Wei Ying has always worked out of spite and certain habits are difficult to forget.

Couldn’t put the number in the right order, switching digits left and right since he was young? Fine. Numbers were concepts anyway, entire civilizations working their magic without even knowing what “zero” stood for. A brain steaming with a million ideas per second? Good. New connections brimming with ideas he could use to better the world.

It worked fine until he let himself down. Until he became a useless empty lighter, a wet match tossed out, carbon monoxide in the air.

Dropped out before finishing his very ambitious, highly dangerous for his psyche, thesis project. Aunt Yu never forgave him for that, not after paying for his advanced classes, not after trusting Uncle Jiang and supporting him despite his many flaws. What good is being first of your class every year, poster child of a teaching system done right, graduating bachelor at 21, if you can’t finish your master at 23 and get your PhD at 25 and start teaching by 27 and drive yourself insane in the process?

Wei Ying dropped out and didn’t finish his master, didn’t enroll in the teaching program, and let everyone down. His Uncle and Aunt looking down on him, whether out of pity or shame. Jiang Cheng may have been the one leaving him behind, but he used to be the one saying “you should have tried harder”. YanLi worrying over him when she should have focused on her career first. Jin Ling growing up with stories of his uncle “not being worth the money put into his education”, taught to not disappoint and make his family proud. The Jin side, that is.

And now the kid comes crawling in defeat to him instead of Jiang Cheng after bombing a test in high school. And they chat of what he would like to do and how much he likes sports and how much he despises the idea of getting a scholarship for that and being called stupid or something by his classmates. And he cries when he thinks Wei Ying cannot see him as he leaves the campus late at night.

Wei Ying didn’t even want to solve that impossible theorem he fixated on in his early twenties. His thesis project was inconsequential in the great scheme of things and his professor only wanted him to be his one trick pony in the end. No. Wei Ying wanted to teach math in elementary school, hell... even in kindergarten. He wanted to change the approach to the subject. Because numbers cannot be taught like language is and there are many ways to teach how to sum up digits and divide quantities and there are no rules on how to make sense of space either.

But how can he teach when even time eludes his senses?

Something that nobody can define, but certainly most perceive as linear... but not him. Not since his brain fried up in his attempt to function like a normal human being.

After thirteen years nothing has changed.

Until one day he hears something else aside from his usual intrusive thoughts and burdensome memories. A melody so quiet he almost mistakes it for the wind, coming from the music building.

He walks slowly, night surrounding him like the embrace of a friend as he makes his way to the traditional musical instruments room. The one where Jin Ling’s friends meet sometimes as they wait for the younger boy to join them. Wei Ying holds his breath as he spies through the gap of the door left ajar, neon light slicing his face like moonbeams as he peeks in and recognizes Jin Ling’s friends and another figure sitting on the ground, guqin on their knees.

But before he can lean in and breathe in the vibrant sounds all around, the door opens and music theory Professor Lan finds Wei Ying clutching his mop for dear life.

They said the man could see colors within the notes, that he despises language outside of his class or office and that only his brother, the history of art TA, could convince him to talk every now and then.

If numbers were created to measure space, Wei Ying firmly believed music had been invented to make sense of time and count its seconds in rhythm and notes, pauses and beats. Yet, time seems to stretch to a stop as the janitor focuses all of his attention on professor Lan’s stern face and his heart quickens its pace.

Wei Ying takes a rushed breath and dives right in with a weird sense of hope pumping in his veins. A small, timid voice whispering that life is not made to be atoned, but to move on and grow.

One step at a time.

“I’m Wei Ying, Professor Lan. May I listen while you play?”

Yes, maybe it will be enough just to let time flow at its pace.

WWX does not magically solve the math theorem. he may or may not help kids figure out how to use numbers on the long run tho. no, he will still work as a janitor and there’s nothing wrong with that.

yes, LWJ is autistic and stimms and finds WWX’s honesty soothing. yes, you can add your hcs on the matter. he has synesthesia, but more on the grapheme-color side of the deal than anything else and he sees certain letters/numbers/notes in different colors. people think he can see colors in music, but they misunderstood and thought he could recognize different hues while listening to music instead of reading it.

JC has grown since his uni years and doesn’t resent WWX anymore. he teaches astrophysics as a TA and doesn’t pressure his brother to pick his studies up anymore. WWX has mixed feelings about this: he feels he’s a lost cause, to the point not even his brother spurs him to best himself anymore, but he is grateful for the patience anyway.

LXC is the official LWJ translator of the campus along with their cousins SiZhui and JinGyi. he bonds with WWX and JC over how tired they are, seldom staring at flies roaming above them in the cafeteria bc none of them can even move. he lives on caffeine and regrets, but he’s getting better as he develops a love for his plant babies and tries to not let them die on a daily basis.

Wen Ning and Wen Qing are little overachievers and adrenaline junkies, hence their competitive streak on their way to their third master degree just for funsies. they scare people with how driven they are, but the juniors love them.

NMJ is the one to go to if you need to get away with murder, but JGY will actually be the one helping you dispose of the body. the fact that they both work in criminal law is somewhat both reassuring and disquieting. they hate each other and yet cannot stop hang out, they are close to 40 and need the rivalry to keep going anyway. nothing beats a good nemesis. not even sex. maybe.

NHS has failed his entrance exam to become a nurse too many times to count, but he is determined to see the end of it. even if he could potentially work in the family business, but he doesn’t know anything about managing an empire of bricks and he doesn’t care. if NMJ could run away, well, so can he.

MianMian is Wei Ying’s bestie and has the biggest crush on JGY’s sister A-Su the kindergarten teacher, but since they are childhood besties she doesn’t know how to approach her. she is Jin Ling’s idol and a certified boxer and refers to herself as a useless bisexual. Wei Ying boxes with her sometimes, she always win.

YanLi is an equestrian mum, but in the best way possible: she coaches children for shows and teaches them horses should be loved and feared equally and that if you want to shoot arrows from a running horse you should always, ALWAYS let go of the stirrups the moment the beast gets too unhinged to ride. JC fears her, WWX is only glad she didn’t train police dogs for a living.

ZiXuan actually loves his wife, but WWX and JC question his career choices and the fact that he’s a retired lawyer spending his family fortune while he’s a stay-at-home dad and does all the housework. WWX and JC believe he should give their sister a better life and work his ass off to deserve her, but he does make amazing rice cakes and keeps up with Jin Ling’s studies and is very supportive of his dreams.

A-Qing and Song Lan are siblings and sometimes bring JC food from the campus cafeteria where they both work at, while Xiao XingChen and his carer Xue Yang work with LXC for a project on accessibility for visually impaired visitors of the local museum. JC and LXC work to make Song Lan and Xiao XingChen fall for each other, but the youngsters are too protective to let them play matchmaker so easily.

MDZS fic ideas

Things I’d love to see in Mo Doa Zu Shi fanfiction. These are my notes for things I have told myself I am not allowed to write. I’ve read...so many fics for this fandom, like most of the archive, and I’m sad that I’m pretty much at the point of rereading/waiting for updates. These ideas have been swimming around in my head that I have no time to write, so PLEASE someone take them and gimme some new words to read, I beg you. Of course, end goal should be wangxian in some way, because otherwise WHAT IS THE POINT, but I don’t have time to write these, so...here you go. Please let me know if you use them. I wanna read these, but I don’t have time to write them, so maybe someone else will want to.

*Time Travel AU in which WWX goes back and for some reason tells Madame Yu all the bullshit that’s gonna happen, so they team up and fix all the things. I just...really want Mama Yu to like WWX thanks. And dear god, LET JC BE HAPPY! I need so much more resolution on that front. Even the book did not satisfy me. I WANT MY BOYS TO GET ALONG! And I want Mama Yu to not be awful and abusive to WWX! I mean she had reasons for being salty but uh that is NOT good justification for the shit she pulled with WWX. Also, hell, let Jiang Fengmian get his core melted and have Madame Yu run the sect. WE NEED FEMALE REP.

*Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze live so WWX gets to grow up with his parents. He meets LWJ as a rogue cultivator or something idk. This would make a fun oneshot.

*LWJ’s mother lives! Honestly, I just want happy Lan-fam. Can I get that please? Just how much would it change the dynamic of the story if LWJ’s father led the sect properly and his mother wasn’t locked away in a goddamn building and actually got to spend more time with her kids? I am forever salty that we’ll never know why Mama Lan killed her hubby’s teacher or w/e. Somebody GIVE ME SOME REASONING.

*WWX gets taken in and claimed as heir by Wen Ruohan...and WWX doesn’t learn that their ways are wrong until he’s at least a teen (perhaps when sent to train at the Cloud Recesses?) and realizes how the other Sects really feel about them. Give him some convoluted morals that he has to unlearn. Make Wen Xu and Wen Chao hate him for being chosen over them. Change Wei Wuxian/Wei Ying into Wen Ying/Wen Wuxian and have it be a secret that he’s not actually a Wen. Have WWX actually not want the Wen Sect destroyed because despite how messed up its people are, not all of them are bad--mostly just those in power (it still baffles me that the other clans just DESTROYED an entire sect, like I know the Wens burned Lotus Pier but DAMN that’s cold!) Even some kind of variation where WWX influences Wen Ruohan and his children’s evil mindset would be really interesting. Otherwise, can you imagine WWX with Chenqing on the Wen side? Ouch. Also, this sticks WWX with Wen Ning and Wen Qing early on and I LOVE THEM, so there’s that.

*WWX doesn’t come back after his first death, and LWJ achieves immortality because he’s stubbornly still looking/waiting for WWX. Two centuries pass (we’re going to ignore any technological advancements and replace them with cultivation advancements or something) and LWJ ends up befriending a nice lady cultivator who falls for him, and even though he only considers her a friend, he agrees to marry her. They have 1 very stubborn gay daughter (only from consummation sex which brings up a boatload of other problems) who somehow stumbles across a reborn!WWX with all his memories--daughter is hella bitter that her father clearly does not return her mother’s affections and that he is apparently pining for someone who is so long dead that people don’t actually remember his name (ie - people remember Yiling Laozu but not that his name was Wei Wuxian). But without knowing who he is, the daughter ends up liking WWX until she finds out the truth about who he is and drama ensues. Can you tell I’ve wanted to write this one so badly? I mean I could just about draft an outline, but I HAVE TO FOCUS ON MY ORIGINAL NOVEL I’M SORRY.

*Time Travel AU in which Yanli alone gets a do-over with all the future knowledge and fixes everything just by being her amazing self. I feel like she’d be a really keen manipulator.

*The story from NHS’s pov. I wanna read all his manipulations and him putting them into place. Is there anything like this out there? Because oh my GOD I wanna know what’s going through his head sometimes. I really, really do!

*Jiang Cheng/Wen Ning - AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS WOULD BE AN ENTERTAINING SHIP? Just...I sort of tolerate the JC/LXC and JC/NHS pairings because they’re commonly used, but honestly, I’m not crazy about either one. However, WN is such a sweetheart and JC is such a hothead and there is so much opportunity for drama there. Also, in some cases depending on timeline...WN is, yunno, a corpse--a fixable thing if you weave in WWX’s involvement and make him and JC get along again. GIVE ME THAT. Like I don’t read much other than wangxian focused fic, but I would read the hell out of this (also you could easily balance those two pairings).

*Somewhere in the waiting gap, LWJ is given three tasks by a deity of some sort who promises to bring WWX back if he completes him...but these tasks have to UTTERLY go against LWJ’s character and completely destroy his reputation as Hanguang Jun. Honestly, this could go cracky or painfully dark.

*No idea how, but Mo Xuanyu manages to bring WWX back fully in-tact and they both get to live. WWX of course takes MXY under his wing, and together they avoid the notice of even LWJ for a lot longer than WWX did in canon. I would love to see them figuring out the whole JGY plot in the background and LWJ tailing them around just a little too late to the party each time a major event goes down until finding out in some kind of dramatic finale that WWX has been back for a while. I have yet to see characterization for MXY that I really like. Most people make him either ridiculously whiny or so much like WWX that they may as well be the same character. :/ So, uh, maybe a different approach? I mean MXY is allowed some complaints, he’s had a rough time of things, but come ON.

*Lan Wanji never finds Wen Yuan and poor widdle Shizui manages to survive into adolescence living on his own in the burial mounds...accompanied by the fragmented ghost of his Xian-gege who very slowly is pieced back together by A-Yuan, who has sort of naturally started using demonic cultivation and somehow develops a heroic reputation as a rogue cultivator. Why? Because he’s Shizui, and Shizui is SO PURE OK? Maybe he has a fascination with LWJ, even though his memories of Rich Gege are kind of fuzzy. Shizui matchmakes his two ridiculous dads. Oh and inquiry doesn’t work on WWX cuz his soul is shrouded by the resentful energy in the burial mounds.

*The Wen clan burns the Cloud Recesses to the ground around the same time WWX has lost his parents, but LWJ somehow escapes. Reportedly, everyone in GusuLan is now dead, but he somehow ends up in the same town as WWX. They meet and bond immediately. Maybe LWJ saves WWX from the dogs. Anyway, JFM never finds WWX, so he and LWJ grow up together in poverty, eventually teaching themselves cultivation and night hunting, until their fame grows so much that they catch the attention of the Wen clan (or something). Have them ridiculously dedicated to each other, already in love and thinking of themselves as cultivation partners. I want their bond to straight-up shock people. LET THEM BE SHAMELESS. LWJ would have to have a fake name and wear something other than white.

*LWJ and WWX figure out their relationship stuff a lot sooner and end up building a proper sect in the burial mounds. I want LWJ wearing WWX’s colors. I want demonic cultivation to work hand-in-hand with regular cultivation. I want them to find artifacts or books or something in the burial mounds indicating a civilization used to be there that also studied demonic cultivation, or maybe they actually find some long forgotten god/dess of demonic cultivation who empowers them in exchange for worship.

*LWJ was not whipped for protecting WWX, he was imprisoned for life, not in GusuLan, but in some godforsaken prison that is so intense no one in the clans really likes to talk about it. I want him flung into some hellprison with ghosts and demons, where only his cultivation keeps him alive (and relatively sane) for that decade-ish gap until WWX’s fragmented ghost somehow finds him. Of course, WWX realizes LWJ loves him, which triggers in WWX a want to finally come back to life. He finds a way back to the living world and rains hell upon the people who decided it was a good idea to imprison LWJ until someone finally tells him how to get to the prison. He frees LWJ and helps him recover while all the JGY stuff is going on the background. Wangxian returns to the cultivation world in time to stop that catastrophe. (Before LWJ is imprisoned, he makes LXC promise to take care of A-Yuan of course!)

*WWX gets flung into the burial mounds and embraces demonic cultivation, but realizes he has somehow bound himself to the awful place and can’t leave. Over time, he lures stragglers and refugees to the mounds, where he welcomes them to stay and live safely. Outside, the Sunshot Campaign is a failure and what remains of the sects bow in subservience to the Wen clan. Inflicted with some permanent disabilities from the war and left to run GusuLan now that his brother and uncle are dead (sorry Xichen), Lan Wanji never gets the chance to go looking for WWX. Thirteen years pass and WWX has absorbed so much resentful energy from the burial mounds that he is practically a part of it. Finally, he is able to leave, but the world he finds is much different from the one he remembers, and his health fades fast when he is outside of the mounds. Somehow, WWX figures out that demonic cultivation doesn’t damage the body/soul/temperament if somehow counterbalanced properly with a golden core--and since he doesn’t have one, he and LWJ do a soulbond thing so that their cores (WWX: demonic and LWJ: golden) balance each other. Then he can take on the Wens.

I could literally whip out ideas nonstop, but these are the big ones that have been just...beating on the walls of skull trying to get out. Of course, they don’t always account for everything, so more thought is needed. I love all the adaptation of Mo Dao Zu Shi! Be it the original novel, donghua, audio drama, manhua or live-action. I just love how we can retell the same story with different media and creative minds.

My concern is the donghua staff did tell the story in their own way beautifully. They might have delete few wangxian moments but the donghua is never a trash. They still imply the romance between LWJ and WWX but very indirectly bc of censorship. If you think MDZS is only about LWJ and WWX romance, please question yourself again. It’s not only that. The supporting characters, the universe where they live and sub stories are all well-thought. Donghua staff knew this so they want to focus to the plot and they executed it very well. I love the tone they gave to the animation. It kind of reminds me of Kara no Kyoukai(Garden of Sinners)? It has this dark, and seriousness but there are also comic relief but not really emphasize. And I think the donghua is pretty good in that way?

As for the live action, The Untamed. It reminds me of how the novel and audio drama feels like. You see, I’m one of the very few people where I’ve read the novel first before I watch the anime. This is almost like how I imagined the characters and the world when I’m reading it. Main characters are mostly perfect and I love the way they portray the bonds like yunmeng jiang siblings, the trio, etc. I really love how they add more comedy and more cute moments between our two leading characters. These are exactly what I miss in the donghua but that doesn’t mean donghua did a bad thing. It just that the story can retell in many ways so I love both. It also made me remember why I fell for Wangxian as a pair. It is bc of their cute moments when they are young! I’m not a big fan of the aftermath of their romance maybe bc I’m conservative? But I do read yaoi or can watch r18 stuffs tho. I just prefer to watch a love story unfold in just simple actions like WWX making LWJ smile. That’s probably why I like the romance before WWX died? But the aftermath is also quite good but I really prefer their past bc that’s where their love started. Simple actions, and special unexpected meetings. So I really love that they added more cute WWX x LWJ scenes in this live action. It’s funny to watch how WWX chase after LWJ like all the time as if he’s in love with him. Well, he probably did but he don’t know. Anyway, let’s talk about my fave brotps. Yunmeng Jiang siblings and the trio. These two bonds also become a highlight in this live action. We can see more interaction between the siblings and among friends. I really love the new addition of some scenes like JC only talking to JYL or WWX being really close friends to NHS. The only things I’m not quite fond of is Wen Qing and Wen Ruohan? WQ is not that fierce and proud in the live action. JYL is way better than her in the live action. Believe me, I kind of ship WQ with WWX in the novel but in the live action I will probably not. I don’t even like the forced romance between her and Jiang Cheng. I don’t mind JC to have a love story but the way it executed is making him out of character. As for Wen Ruohan, he looks like an evil lord here instead of him being like a dictator emperor. Maybe bc I’m into the Wen Ruohan donghua but I don’t know. The rest of the cast are fine with me. These two are the only things I don’t like in the adaptation.

ok but also. I think nhs and lwj would actually have an ok marriage, after the initial weirdness. Not fall in love, probably not be intimate because lwj at the very least is a romantic idiot who will Mourn For Ever And Be Faithful To His Lost Love

But after the marriage and seeing NHS around NMJ, LWJ sees that the Second Master of QInghe Nie just never had the same impact on sect decisions that LWJ might have, and that his husband, even if he had protested against turning on WWX, would have been ignored. And I think they start talking a lot about WWX, because NHS also misses him since he’s just not someone who has a lot of friends. They learn to get along.

At some point, NHS gets thoroughly drunk for some reason, and starts spilling the beans on his terrible, one sided, ridiculous love for LXC. He’s never told anyone before, but he knows LWJ will understand the situation of loving someone who will never see you the way you see them. They bond over that shared pain as well.

By the time NMJ dies, NHS and LWJ are close friends, and it’s generally assumed that their marriage is a full success. So it’s a surprise when NHS returns to Qinghe alone to take over his brother’s sect, while LWJ stays in Gusu. The main reason is A-Yuan: NHS and LWJ discussed it, and while the Lan sect is far from perfect, LWJ doesn’t want his son to start cultivating in the Nie way, not when he knows what it can do (it reminds him far too much of what happened to WWX).

Still they stay very close friends. So when NHS realises what JGY did, this time he’s not alone. He immediately tells LWJ, and together they start investigating what JGY did with NMJ’s body, and discover his other crimes along the way.

(NHS has a friend, but he’s still a sneaky, distrustful little liar. When MXY gets exiled from the Jin sect and mistreated by his family, NHS still convinces him to offer his body to WWX, though it happens a few years earlier than it would have)(it will be a major argument between him and LWJ down the line, coming close to ruining their friendship)(maybe it does ruin it)(NHS regrets nothing, not when he sees LWJ smile every time WWX kisses him)

I am not sure how things get resolved for Xisang tbh, but at least wangxian still get their happy ending and isn’t that always what matters most? :D

Im amazed and thrilled to see your every new fic with a new angsty idea. Always that liiiitle bit of hurt. And I really like your omegaverse fic and that one with married xisang! And I wanted to share idea for angsty xisang-as Lan clan is not into arranged marriage that much, they think that after this entire thing with YP, LWJ should get spouse. But they don't want him to go to different sect so second young master Nie sounds like the best option. LXC heart just breaks into pieces.

NOBODY wants this, except the elders and Lan Qiren, who feel they are being very generous already in letting lwj marry a man since that’s the preference he has shown, aren’t they nice, aren’t they kind??

LWJ: doesn’t want this in the LEAST. He loves wwx. He will always love wwx. He does not want to marry anyone but wwx. He will never marry anyone but wwx. The only way he could be pressured into this is through A-Yuan. Maybe the elders say they’ll let him keep his son, let him be a full Lan, let him be legally HIS. That’s the only thing that could tempt him, ever. And even then, he doesn’t want to be link to the Nie sect who took that oath to destroy WWX, to someone who was once a close friend of WWX. He’d give in a little more easily if it was someone from a smaller sect, someone whose clan wasn’t in Nightless City to demand the death of the man he loved/loves/will always love. And yet, for A-Yuan, for his son, for the only thing he has left of WWX, there’s little he won’t do.

NHS: also doesn’t want this. He’ll argue it’s not even that good of a deal politically since the Nie are already close allies to the Lan through that sworn brotherhood. He’ll argue that it’s stupid to force him into an arranged match that will not even give heirs to either of their sects. He’ll complain that he doesn’t want to live in Gusu Lan, that their rules are boring and he’ll never fit in there, that he’ll shame both his old sect and the new one. He will beg his brother not to make him do that, there’s someone he loves already and even if he can’t be with that person, please don’t make him marry someone else, please don’t take that freedom from him (but Gusu Lan really wants that match, they are offering a lot, and while Nie Mingjue isn’t one to let himself be bullied by old men, he respects his seniors and listen attentively when the Nie elders tell him that he can’t always spoil his brother, that their sect needs an even stronger alliance in case the Jin decide to create problems in the future)

LXC: extremely doesn’t want this, and yet puts so much work towards it. It’s for the good of his brother, the elders tell him. It will ground LWJ, distract him from a terrible passion for a man who never loved him in the first place. They point out that NHS is so much like WWX in some ways, silly and insolent, but less wild and dangerous, so it will be fine if LWJ falls for him... and why wouldn’t he when the second master of Qinghe Nie is a pretty man why a sunny disposition (LXC knows this, agrees with this. He knows just how easy it is to fall in love with NHS. He never intended to fall in love with his best friend’s brother. But if he fell, why wouldn’t LWJ?). It’s for the good of LWJ. His own heart break every time he has to negotiate for the match. It’s for the good of LWJ. He wants to scream whenever the elders send him to convince his brother to agree. It’s for the good of LWJ. And LXC has seen through his brother, through his father, what happens to people who give in to their emotions. It’s for the good of LWJ. LXC doesn’t give up until at last both his brother and NHS give in, defeated by how much he fought for a marriage that he knows will leave him broken.

Episode 8: the One where NHS is a Total Cockblock

We are blessed with the opportunity to see WWX play with the bunnies again~! Meaning that this episode starts right where it left off last.

After WWX realizes that LWJ is going on the Super Important Mission, he starts complaining to the bunnies

WWX: We promised to go on that adventure together! You guys were there, you saw him promise, didn’t you??

WWX: and he’s DITCHING me?? FRIENDS DON’T LEAVE FRIENDS BEHIND!!

the bunnies definitely agreed with him. we don’t actually see that happen, but it’s true.

Now the rest of the Yunmeng sibs appear to share a moment with the bunnies. It’s super cute but not a wangxian moment so we’re skip on ahead here.

Wait, one last bunny moment to share. We see lwj leave for his mission, and he stops by the bunny area and says, very solemnly, “farewell” to all the bunnies.

BECAUSE EVERYONE LOVES BUNNIES, OKAY??

Blegh, boring plot stuff happens, yuck

NEXT WANGXIAN MOMENT - we see lwj walking alone wearing some stunningly bright blue robes

(the white sash with that robe is really emphasizing his tiny waist, STOP THAT LWJ, I CAN BARELY HANDLE IT WHEN WWX DOES IT, I CAN’T HAVE YOU BOTH SHOWING OFF YOUR TINY WAISTS AT THE SAME TIME, I WILL DIE)

There he is minding his own business when suddenly he catches a loquat that was just chucked at him

Anyway, back to the wangxian scene~!

Wwx: lan zhan!!

Lwj: *looks at the loquat he just caught and throws a dirty look at wwx* Boring

WWX: *whining* lan zhan, how could you break our promise?? WE’RE SUPPOSED TO ADVENTURE TOGETHER, FOR HONOR, CHIVALRY AND DUTY!!

Wwx: ooh, did you ditch me bc you’re scared that i’ll steal your thunder?? Wow, i didn’t realize the lan clan was so petty.

Lwj: how boring *walks off*

Don’t worry, wwx is completely undeterred by this

Ugh more plot stuff

But then we get another wangxian scene!

They’re still walking in the middle of nowhere but lwj is ahead of wwx

Wwx: lan zhan wait for me *whine whine*

Lwj: *ignores him and keeps walking*

Then we get a reappearance of wwx’s Mischievous Grin as he does some magic glowy talisman writing in the air and flings it to lwj

NOW THEY’RE MAGICALLY TIED TOGETHER, AAHHH

Wwx: I made it myself! Isn’t it neat~?

(why, wwx, why did you feel the need to make glowy magic rope? What were you doing that made you think of this? WERE YOU THINKING OF LWJ?? it’s okay, I understand!! who wouldn’t want to tie down the second jade of lan??)

He then proceeds to tug the magic rope every which way, which of course yanks lwj’s arm around to match, bc HE’S A CHILD LOL

Wwx: what should I call it? Binding or Bonding?

Lwj: *stares steadfastly away* Boring

Lwj then whips his arm back dramatically and it’s his turn to yank wwx around.

Ofc he doesn’t get playfully tug-of-war-ish with it. He just turns on his heel to keep walking.

Alright now they reach a town for Plot Reasons and we have this funny moment where wwx finds himself a scary mask and sneaks up behind lwj to try to scare him! Doesn’t really work, but lwj’s eyes do widen just a fraction so maybe he was a little bit startled? Idk idk

In this town we bump into NHS!! And we get a glimpse of jealous!LWJ because of him!!

See, wwx is a touchy guy, right? If you’re friends, he’ll happily sling an arm over you and tug you in close for conversation

Which is exactly what he does with NHS

Lwj looks at them while they do this before disdainfully dragging his gaze away and continuing through town

WHAT’S THE MATTER LWJ?? DO YOU WISH WWX WOULD PULL YOU IN CLOSE LIKE THAT?

DO YOU??

We cut to yunmeng to see a bit of jiang sibling time

And we’re back in town with LWJ, WWX, and third-wheeling NHS.

Nhs: so why are you hanging out with lwj who hates you? Are you being punished??

Wwx: how dare??? I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW WE GET ALONG GREAT NOW

Then they stumble upon a group of people excitedly looking at something, we don’t care what

Hey guys, remember back in episode 7 when LWJ dives into a violent crows like nbd bc wwx was in danger??

Yeah, here lwj does not go anywhere near the nonviolent crowd

Wwx: lwj, why aren’t you going over there to check it out??

Lwj: no way, too many people

I FEEL YOU BRO. I TOO AVOID CROWDS LIKE THE PLAGUE

Wwx: it’s not that crowded! Come on!! You’ll be fine!! I’ll protect you *proceeds to physically grab lwj by the arm and drag him to the crowd*

AND NOW WE HAVE A WONDERFULLY PICTURESQUE MOMENT

It starts raining colorful flower petals!! The music in the background is upbeat and cheerful! Everyone around is making sounds of joyous surprise!!

Nhs looks over to LWJ and his jaw drops open: “LWJ truly is an unparalleled, gorgeous, elegant gentleman!”

No really, that’s exactly what he says to WWX about LWJ.

The camera angles up here so we see lwj from a lower point of view, and get a shot of him silhouetted against a blue sky that just makes him GLOW as flower petals gently swirl around him. His face is serene.

What i’m trying to say here is that NHS NAILED HIS DESCRIPTION BC LWJ IS LOOKING LIKE A YOUNG GOD HERE.

Wwx: *gazes softly at lwj* I agree

Wwx: *internally* whoops that sounded too honest, better fix that

Wwx: TOO BAD HE ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE HE’S GOING TO A FUNERAL, AMIRITE??

NHS is offended on LWJ’s behalf here but wwx doesn’t even care because he’s TOO BUSY ADMIRING LWJ’S GORGEOUS FEATURES

LIKE, OMG WWX, CAN YOU GET ANY QUEERER??

Plot things happen in town and then the boys leave

Yes, including NHS, what the heck (ilu nhs, but c’mon)

NHS: wait a minute…are we on a dangerous mission right now?!?!

WWX: if by “we” you mean me and lan zhan, then yes! Bc you’re not invited. This is mine and lan zhan’s time. Not mine and nhs and lan zhan’s time

Nhs does not take the hint, and LWJ keeps himself determinedly ahead of the pair so he can properly ignore them

MORE PLOT STUFF HAPPENS, WTF, CAN YOU NOT??

And now we’re in a cave!! Not the cave of wonders, but another cave!! For Plot Reasons we don’t care about!!

Plot, plot, dancing fairy legend, plot

MORE boring plot exposition.

There’s way too much of that going on in this episode i think

They need to stop

Oh, now we’re getting another shot of jealous LWJ!

Random old guy: yeah, we don’t have any houses or inns or whatever so i guess you’ll just have to sleep in this creepy cave with the ugly fairy statue that may or may not steal your soul ByYyEeEE

Nhs is not, you know, the bravest of cultivators so he immediately gets all close to wwx and starts whispering to him how scared he is

The camera refocuses on LWJ who is a little ways behind them and BOY IS HE JUST BORING HOLES INTO THEIR HEADS

C’MON LWJ, WWX IS ALLOWED TO TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE

DON’T GET WEIRD ABOUT IT. DON’T BE THAT GUY.

Alright now we skip to the boys sleeping uncomfortably in this creepy-ass cave and THE FAIRY STATUE WAKES UP!!!

WWX & LWJ: I’MMA STAB IT WITH MY SWORD (guys, they’re practically synchronized here, probably because they’re ~soulmates~)

NHS: LOOKS LIKE YOU GUYS GOT IT UNDER CONTROL SO I’M JUST GONNA HIDE BACK HERE

And then we see WWX use his binding technique to save the love of his life from getting smashed by the fairy statue’s arm.

He does this by tying his magic rope around the statue’s arm and pulling it back (while his braces himself on the statue’s side because he’s a badass) so the full weight of the blow doesn’t land on lwj (who blocks it with bichen)

ANYWAY these two are battling the fairy statue because they’re just that Skilled but obvs wwx never takes anything seriously…

WWX: Lan Zhan, she has a crush on you! :D :D :D

(omg wwx, now is not the time)

LWJ: Shut up

(see, lwj agrees with me)

And whoops, the bindings snapped! Before the evil fairy could hurt them more, wwx does a Dramatic Twirl and launches a couple of sealing talismans at it

(@theuntamednarrator and I have determined that the Dramatic Twirl is super important to activating the talismans. The harder you Dramatic Twirl, the stronger they are. It’s just how magic science works.)

LWJ then reinforces them by doing this weird thing with his sword? He kind of…scrapes his scabbard against bichen and it starts glowing with blue energy (??) that he scoops up with his hand and launches it at the statue.

Not sure what all that’s about but it works!!

Now, you’re probably wondering why i went into detail about the battle when bc it’s more plotty than shippy

BUT YOU’RE WRONG, IT’S TOTALLY SHIPPY BC WE GET TO SEE WANGXIAN WORK COHESIVELY TOGETHER TO TAKE DOWN A BADDIE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER

THEY’RE SO WELL MATCHED EVEN ON THE BATTLEFIELD

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

THIS ISN’T EVEN THEIR BEST BATTLE SCENE. IT’LL GET EVEN BETTER GUYS, JUST YOU WAIT.

And that’s it for the episode. I hope we get to less plot-heavy eps soon bc let me tell you, this one kind of dragged with how few wangxiantics we were getting.

STILL, we got to see LWJ be beautifully surrounded by flower petals so I’ll count this as a win.
