If they didn't want to change the script and do something different, WHY would they pull out some of the most respected games of all time and do that!?

Could it be... perhaps... that some valid criticism and/or questions were recieved over the years, telling the makers that "hey, coming back to address this and do it differently in a whole new game could actually make us some money!"

Is this making sense? Yes, the OG timeline is a deeply loved media, but it wasn't flawless and the retelling has been a MASSIVE success. It wouldn't have been if anyone felt it was ruining the OG.

Choose your preferred story, like them both equally in their own right. Do not claim that it's the same bloody game, with no changes to the script, character arcs, overarching story and with no development at all, because frankly, you look like a total moron in this here ask box.
