Anybody else notice how the Entity is getting not only more complex with every update, but also more and more alive? To the extent that it can now get up and walk? To the extent of implied organs, implied magic? And meanwhile, coincidentally, Grian seems to be losing his sense for his own durability. Stood right there and took a hit from a trident thrown straight up, expecting to live, but didn’t. The surprise in his voice when Keralis was able to take him out in one punch. Having less health than he expected to have is becoming a trend...except for that time in front of the Rift.

You know. The last near-death incident before the over-estimations started happening.

Debt is a powerful, powerful thing. Perhaps the Rift, and the Entity it spawned, know that. Perhaps that loan of life to Grian was the permission they needed to start taking back their due - slowly, of course, so that he never quite notices.

Slowly, of course, one sip of life at a time, so that the thing at the other end of the straw can feed in steady peace. Because debt and deals might rule the eldritch, but equivalent exchange rules nature, and the Entity is above all else both. Life cannot simply spring from nothing, not without cause, not without fuel. Grian is the reservoir of life that the Entity is pulling from. As it grows, he depletes.

Maybe the Rift is a conduit, the pipe for the transfer to take place - or maybe it’s the mastermind, or an impassive observer, or hey, maybe it’s just a coincidental tear like any other tear. Randomness is a law of nature too. But the idea that the Entity’s growth will be capped by how much life and power is left to be pulled from Grian is terrifying in MULTIPLE ways and I’ll be turning it over in my brain for the rest of the day at least

Which, while using the exact same terms as the Empires Metric System (EMS) used by every other Empire, is still different.

1 inch in SIS is the equivalent of 0.53 inches in EMS.

So, while in SIS Joel is 132 inches tall, or 11ft...

In EMS, he is 70 inches tall. Or 5'8".

Essentially: all the other Empires are using metric system and Joel's Empire is the USA of the Server and using another system Just Because They Can.

i love that the information on hera's servers is just something she (mostly) has access to and it isn't inherently part of her or necessarily something she knows, exactly - that she has to actively read the books available to her, that she doesn't commit all of the information she processes to memory, that her memory is fallible and influenced by her own biases, etc. because it means sometimes eiffel is like, wow, hera!! you're so smart; you know everything!! and meanwhile she's doing the equivalent of like, googling stuff really fast.

I've only got 4 episodes left in season 4 of ML, and I'm feeling like this show is going through a bit of an identity crisis. It started as a simple monster-of-the-week superhero show with small hints at plot here and there, but now in season 4 it really feels like they're trying to focus a LOT more on the plot aspects and it's kind of collapsing in on itself lol

I understand it's not uncommon for modern cartoons to start with a simple premise and then start building up a plot later on, but with Ladybug, it feels like they want to have a big story but aren't willing to break away from the base formula of the show. Which is kind of an issue, because the base formula includes having a character press the "revert everything to the status quo" button; aka, if anything of consequence happens, it doesn't actually matter because it'll always be fixed/reversed by the end of the episode. There's essentially little to no plot development , because the forumla literally does not allow for it.

Ladybug doesnt need to have a huge overarching storyline (I honestly enjoyed it more when they weren't so focused on the plot), but it just feels kinda lame for them to dangle all of these different plot threads in front of the audience only to immediately say "just kidding!" and then pretend they never happened. It can come off as very fanfiction-y at times (Oblivio and Chat Blanc come to mind), and they've done the identity reveal fakeout so many times now that when it actually happens, I'm not sure I'm gonna have much of a reaction other than "finally lol". Their lack of dedication to letting anything change in the status quo is SUPER obvious with Chloe.

Chloe has a full redemption arc set up in seasons 2&3 (making her sympathetic, giving her a sad backstory that explains why she is the way she is, making her have moments of lucidation where she admits she's a bad person), only to have her turn evil in the season 3 finale because... she's the mean girl. I'm not even saying Chloe HAD to be redeemed; the idea of having an antagonist try to redeem themselves, only for them to fall even farther, is super enticing to me! The problem is, the show very clearly set up a normal redemption story, and then just changed its mind last second because "she's the Mean one". It's really jarring!

Its like the show has all of these ideas for dramatic storylines, but instead of picking one plotline and focusing on that, they just decided to do all of them and have none of them matter lol

Imagine, if you will, Chat brings up the fact that despite him being in love with her (or just knowing her fir sometime now) he doesn’t know anything about LB and that she should let him know a few things about herself at least.

“tell me more about yourself, I feel like I hardly know you! Nothing that would give you away but what do you even do when you aren’t lady bug? What kind of things do you love?” (or y’know, something like that)

and Ladybug knows that everyone knows she loves fashion or just art in general. Its not secret to the public that Gabriel Agrest’s son wore her hat or Jagged Stone asked her to design his album cover. And if Chat noir is the same age as her (which she found out he is thanks to an interview with Alya) then that increases their chances that they know each other somehow. Perhaps they even go to the same school but just have different home rooms/schedules and everyone at school knew about Marinette’s creativity.

So instead she goes on to say stuff like; “I love when people laugh and their nose scrunches up, or when babies smile at you, or I love when it’s night time and it feels like you are the only one awake...” and just the cutest stuff like that.

Chat’s giving her his softest look aka the Marinette look™️ and when she finishes she asks “what about you?” and he catches on and gives the same type of response; “ I love when people wave at people on other boats, I love when you haven’t seen your friends in a long time and they are just as excited to see you as you are to see them...” and so on with Ladybug giving him that soft look I only see her give Chat Noir.

And it’s just the most wholesome moment because Chat loves seeing her smile as she talks about things that make her happy and Ladybug sees Chat Noir’s softer side that he does show her but it feels as though its the exact opposite of how he carries himself that she can often forget about it.

It’s also bittersweet in a way because they have been doing this for what? a year now? and still barley know anything about each other as it could give them away (especially Chat) but it still gives a bit of an insight into who they are and just gives off a very calming vibe. It could also make for some great moments where maybe whenever Marinette sees a boat she thinks of Chat or when she remembers to, she makes sure to sound extra excited and happy each time she sees him again. Similarly whenever Adrian sees a baby giggling he looks around to see if she here too, smiling, or when they are doing patrols at night, he stays quiet for a moment or two whilst they sit so that Ladybug can take in the cool breeze and the quietness and calmness that comes with night. Idk, just a thought :)

once again sucker punched by the absolute scale of the silm and middle-earth stories in general. it’s never really implied that elves experience time *differently* than shorter-lived species, just that they experience a lot of it. a day doesn’t feel like a minute to them, it feels like a day. a year feels like a year. a hundred years feels like a hundred years and that’s why sometimes after you’ve seen thousands of the motherfuckers you start to fade away out of the sheer ‘for real? a day? what’s next? another one?’-ness of it all. there was me sitting around getting all emotional over maedhros and fingon when those dudes had just shy of five hundred years together after thanogordrim happens and they start to repair the feud. and fingon was only king for about seventy of them! the siege of angband itself was four hundred years long. shit. i cant even comprehend trying to make an adaptation out of this that would accurately get the concept of all this time across. you’d have to invent new kinds of montages. have an unseen but everpresent mandos doing the ‘galadriel in the first couple minutes of fellowship’ thing and quietly pronouncing dooms and reminding us of the passage of time throughout every episode, just so we didn’t forget and start thinking it was taking place over a course of a couple of months
