I'm watching 'No Highway In The Sky' (1951) and it's very fun. So far we've got surprise Jack Hawkins, one of my favourite actors, alongside Jimmy Stewart playing a deeply autistic aircraft engineer, and a lot of technical talk which I am surprised to understand. I started this on the basis of some screenshots by @alter-koker (excuse the tag!) showing a full kitchen and ridiculous flight deck layout that I wanted to dunk on but it's actually quite good so far...only seventeen minutes in, though. Der versprochene Erinnerungsfilm für Glynis Johns (links), der für einen Flugzeugkatastrophenfilm ungewöhlich beschauliche No Highway in the Sky. Als Marlene-Dietrich-Film fand ich ihn immer ein bisschen enttäuschend (sie spielt die handfeste, aber verständnisvolle Filmschauspielerin) und letztlich hat Glynis als verständnisvolle, aber handfeste Stewardess diesmal ausnahmsweise die interessantere Rolle und bekommt (Achtung Spielverderber-Alarm!) schließlich den männlichen Hauptdarsteller zum Gatten und kümmert sich fortan handfest und verständnisvoll um ihn. Wenn man darauf vorbereitet ist, ist es allerdings wieder höchst vergnüglich. Schade ist allerdings, daß keine von beiden auch nur einen einzigen Ton singt. Überraschend tauchen noch Dora Bryan und Wilfrid Hyde-White auf, singen aber auch nicht.

Hier noch ein Erinnerungsphoto für die 100jährig verstorbene Glynis Johns, die als erste Stephen Sondheims größten Hit Send in the Clowns vortrug. Sie ist außerdem bekannt für ihren supercalifragisitischexpialigorischen Einsatz für das Frauenwahlrecht und eine der wenigen Personen, denen es fast mal gelang, Marlene Dietrich an die Wand zu spielen. Das nehmen wir wahrscheinlich als Gedenkfilm und haben natürlich schon A Little Night Music gehört.
