Moodboard for my upcoming Jacaerys character study wherein Rhaenyra doesn’t leave King’s Landing after Vaemond’s death, and so ascends the throne after her father dies. Two years later Jace grapples with what it means to be both bastard and heir to the Iron Throne.

can i ask for a small favor? can you rant about daemon targaryen please? i just re-read your team green 💚 post and i'm reminded of how much ick i feel towards that character, especially in the wake of the team trailers being released.
hiii!!! tysm for this ask i was super happy when i saw it in my inbox i'm flattered people want to hear my opinions lol
my thoughts about daemon are very convoluted. i think he has the potential to be a very interesting character but it's kinda canceled out by the incest and pedophilia thing.
like. i understand it's an incest dragon show but my main issue with team black when it comes to their criticisms. they love to spout endless words about how aegon is a rapist and how alicent is a rape apologist for not... idk slitting his throat i guess.
it's really ironic to me, because these same people will turn around and then yap about how daemyra is the perfect ship. they'll be aghast when you even slightly suggest you enjoy aegon's character in any way but be in an uproar if you dare bash their dashing and roguish prince daemon.
honestly, name one terrible thing aegon did and i'll be able to give you something daemon did that is arguably worse than that.
aegon - raping a servant girl in the show (which honestly i'm treating more as a fanfiction considering how terribly written both the greens and the blacks are).
daemon - uhmmmm probably the whole thing with nettles. you know. the sixteen year old girl he groomed and raped (yes raped because minors aren't able to consent). actually, now that i think of it, he did the exact same thing with rhaenyra too, huh? or does team black find the whole fleabottom episode to be hot and rhaenyra being sexually free? that seems like the sort of thing they'd take from that whole fiasco.
on the topic of blood & cheese: the way some people defend this is honestly sickening.
'but poor luke was killed by his terrible uncle aemond' he was an envoy of war (not to aemond, btw, he owed him no safe haven) and also he kinda. yk. took out his eye. i'm not saying luke deserved to die, but i'm going to be honest this is one of the more mild things that happened during the dance.
whether luke deserved to die (which i'd like to reiterate: i do not think he did. i can understand WHY aemond killed him, but that is not me EXCUSING him. this is for those of you who don't know how to read and will inevitably find a way to start putting words in my mouth) b&c is completely unexcusable.
it's team feminism until its a woman who doesn't fit your little box of badass hottie. it's team feminism until that woman doesn't bow down to rhae-rhae and betray her own family and children in order to join the 'good side.' it's team woman until you point out that rhaenyra was groomed by daemon and continues to make decisions that are decidedly anti-feminist.
this is why i can't stand team black stans who say things like 'i hate the greens except for helaena bc she didn't do anything wrong' because you quite literally cannot do that without admitting that helaena suffered because of the blacks NOT the greens.
helaena suffered bc of DAEMON not because of any actions taken by the greens. DAEMON was the one who orchestrated b&c, the one who sent men to terrorize her and kill her children.
daemon did that.
i have no problem with people who can admit that their faves have flaws. i admit aemond's flaws, daeron's flaws, aegon's flaws. the problem i have with daemon is that his stans are so insufferably annoying and they literally cannot do any of that.
my last thought about daemon (at the moment, at least) is his relationship with strong boys.
lots of tb likes to say that daemon loved those boys like his own and would never do anything to hurt them. and i... honestly find it a little strange, and also a little embarassing, because how am i going to have a better grasp on his character than those that love him most???
i genuinely believe that daemon, had rhaenyra ascended to the throne like viserys planned, he would have caused 'unfortunate accidents' for the strong boys in order to get his blood on the throne. which, btw, was one of the main reasons viserys named rhaenyra heir, to keep daemon from sitting on the throne.
i think it the succession crisis had been between daemon and rhaenyra instead, it would have been a much more interesting storyline.
then again grrm isn't that good at writing interesting storylines when it comes to daemon considering he's a self-insert. honestly i wouldn't be surprised if when he died it was found out that grrm had a fanfiction written somewhere where daemon survived the fight with aemond and got to live out the rest of his boring ass life grooming little girls. who knows.

One criticism I have about the hotd adaptation, especially now that we're going to see more of Aegon II in action, is that I can't fully buy on his hatred of Rhaenyra because of what happened to Jaeherys. Even him cursing her felt jarring. The writers spent so much time bulding Rhaenyra and Alicent's relationship that when it comes down to Rhaenyra and her siblings, it's pretty much non-existent. And they HAD time to show us that. I can buy Aemond resenting his older half-sister for the loss of his eye, since her son was responsible for it, even though he - and everyone else both in team green stans and in-universe - ignores the fact that he was the one who was ready to bash Jace's head with a stone. So there's also that. Yet, when it comes to Aegon, even seeing the cast's interviews where Tom talks about how Aegon had always resented his sister for being the favorite, why don't we see more that? Season 1 had Aegon barely acknowledge her existence and vice-versa, even when his mother was berating and slapping the shit outta him when he was young. I can see clearly him (and Aemond, and maybe Helaena if she cares) resenting Viserys for favoring Rhaenyra, but not to the point of "oh, there she goes, father's favorite child. I hate her because father doesn't pay attention to me when she's around". So yeah, I have a lot of trouble trying to buy the conflict between siblings that was born out of a plot to usurp Rhaenyra, and a misuderstanding where his son became the target of assassination that was meant for Aemond (carried out by two very incompetent people, btw. Daemon should've tried to infiltrate that goddamn castle if he wanted the service done properly. Not to mention Ser Idiot Incel Crispy being the worst kingsguard ever getting a promotion after his absence resulted in the death of Jaeherys. Oh well, the woes of being doomed by canon, I guess.). If they ever interacted in season 1 instead of just sharing/existing in the same space at the same time, I would have buy the anger, the hatred, the pain. Now Aegon going along with Crispy's plan of sending Arryk to Dragonstone, which failed miserabliy and resulted in both twins deaths btw, just makes him sound stupid. I can't even blame Otto for being so frustrated with him (that would also be another topic on itself).

Do you like both the Blacks and the Greens equally or is there one side you favor the most? In Stormbreak it seems like you really understand where both sides are coming from but are also equally critical of both, but I was still wondering if there is a side you actually like more.
aghhh i know this is very stereotypical bisexual of me but i genuinely cannot choose a side. the issue is that i have sympathy and affection for all of the characters. and also that the political situation is a little too nuanced for me to really support either of the sides as is. if i had to choose, i think i'm a little biased towards the greens on a personal level, and the blacks on a political level. which ultimately averages out to "why can't we all just get along" and is basically why i wrote my fic!
the greens in the show were just given so much depth and tragedy and i'm such a sucker for that sort of thing. i could write entire novels about each of them probably. alicent, aegon, aemond, and otto are all honestly given such complex psychological profiles and backgrounds. helaena and daeron aren't, but you can still extrapolate from their association with their family, plus they were super fucking interesting in the book. there's also very much the underdog aspect of how much they've had to battle and how they truly feel that they've been fighting for their lives for decades. it adds this glorious desperation and sympathy to the things they do (yes, even the evil things).
but that being said, the blacks have some really compelling characters of their own. specifically i'm talking about rhaenyra, and daemon. i love that we are clearly meant to root for them and they're these wonderful parents to their children, and yet they're also very much allowed to have their own flaws (namely arrogance and entitlement). i'm also quite fond of lucerys, who is by far the most multidimensional of the children, since the other kids have been done a little dirty by the show and are a bit one-dimensional. aegon in the books is also quite an interesting character.
so when it comes to characters, i really love people on both sides. i do find the greens' current depictions in the show to have more depth and complexity overall, but there are also brilliantly done characters on the blacks. ultimately, if i had to choose, i'd say the greens have the more compelling characters, but only very reluctantly because of my fondness for the blacks.
as for the political side of things, at the end of the day rhaenyra is viserys's heir and there's nothing you can say to change that. in the show (it's more debatable in the book) she is also very clearly presented as both more moral and more competent than aegon. there's no doubt in my mind that ignoring the bastard thing, as a ruler, show rhaenyra would be westeros's best case scenario.
...but then we have the bastard thing. and i refuse to bash rhaenyra for having children outside of her marriage, because there was no other way around laenor's infertility. she couldn't have used it as grounds for divorce since she wouldn't have had proof. however, it was so unbelievably stupid to pick harwin "literally the antithesis of laenor velaryon in appearance" strong as her baby daddy. i've said this before, but rhaenyra would have been better served sleeping with literally ANY velaryon man with laenor's coloring because even if they had blabbed immediately, there would have been no physical proof.
but rhaenyra didn't do that, and she was in a precarious enough position as a woman without making the issue of her succession also an issue of bastardy. those of you who read my fic will understand this better in the next chapter: the sovereign of westeros sets the precedent. what they do, the houses of westeros follow. if rhaenyra puts bastards on the throne, it will empower bastards everywhere to (1) usurp their younger siblings who are currently in power and (2) usurp their younger siblings who are set to inherit one day. now, there is literally nothing morally wrong with this; i personally think everywhere should be like dorne. however, the lords of westeros are greedy and hesitant to risk their (or their trueborn children's) power. so while it's not this morally great thing that the lords want to stay in power and keep bastards out of succession, it's absolutely a political reality of westeros. rhaenyra grew up in westeros. she knew the customs and the laws, and she knew the nobility. it was straight up politically dumb to do what she did.
so while i believe the iron throne is rhaenyra's birthright, and while i believe she'd be the kinder ruler, i don't 100% support her because she's made some major political missteps, so it's not cut and dry. but like i said, if forced to choose i would support her claim.
like i said at the beginning: the characters and the politics are both much more nuanced for me rather than black-and-white in terms of which team i like more. so overall, i don't consider myself to be any particular team. what's interesting is that i've come under fire from both teams for not being "green enough" or "black enough" which honestly just reassures me that i'm not too gung-ho for my faves to blindly support them and pretend they don't have any flaws. we love critical thinking and nuanced takes in this house!! it's just so much more interesting when you don't vilify or idolize characters who are neither villains nor saints.

Are there any particular spices of daemon whose people you think you would get along less well with?
ohhh this is such a great question thank you anon!
i’m a stubborn person and i clash a lot with other people who are stubborn but coming from a different perspective if that makes sense? i get along great with ENFJs but ENTJs, INTJs, and INFJs with underdeveloped Fe just grate on me! i don’t get along well with people who are hard-headed, self-centered, pushy, and sure they’re right. so definitely daemons who are proud and critical.
so 100% capras. the tur species, markhor, ibexes... definitely the definition of hard-headed, stubborn, and proud. i really don’t think i could tolerate being around any of these species longer than necessary, and i’m sure they’d also find me spineless, fickle, and sensitive so i think it’d go both ways. that extroversion and boldness without checking the social temperature, while also being super confident and hardy themselves... and a lot of these species aren't particularly loyal or committed which would also make me feel insecure.
the walrus also came to mind LOL like i love the concept of the walrus person in theory (assertive, bold, gregarious, confident, thick-skinned, and giving!) but i just know that we would absolutely clash in person.
also lots of birds of prey... a little too intense and ambitious for me! i just want everyone to get along. my closest coworker has a boreal owl daemon which is a more withdrawn and chill species so we get along well until she gets on her soapbox. but species like the bateleur, caracara, goshawk mb... i think i’d do well with them as more casual friends but not someone super close.
would love to hear other people’s thoughts! again no daemon-bashing at all, but everyone has people they don’t vibe with and it’s interesting to think about in a world of daemons you could quickly visually identify those people. i see a west caucasian tur and i turn right around LOL

Spirituality isn’t Science...yet. On APC’s “The Doomed”
Maynard James Keenan is by far the most insightful, acute and most penetrating writer known to the current Music Industry as we know it. Fiona Apple is an undeniable and irrefutable 2nd place. They are both at the same level: the Top. Once people reach the top they can only go sideways, which means they are indistinguishable in depth(or height - do you really want to get into it?) from one another but differ in scope, occupying each their own self-established position. Fiona Apple knows how to dissect and scrutinize (romantic) relationships and emotional dynamics - which we all can agree on; Love, Passion and convenience can be very blurry. Maynard, on the other hand, is in every aspect a very Spiritual person and probes the Human condition as a whole: historically, religiously and knows his way around psychology(he has a thing for Jung > Forty-Six & 2 and the Shadows). His early work with TOOL dealt directly with issues ranging from the Jewish Kabbalah, Gematria(but also Applied Math; he incorporated the Fibonacci sequence in their 3rd album among other scientific Easter Eggs), Scientology, Buddhism and last but foremost his hatred of Christendom. The track called "Schism" was only the beginning of an ongoing process of bashing Christian teachings. There is no apparent register of any education that goes beyond high school; Maynard and Fiona- wise. Maynard had a very religious education from his mother and later enlisted in the U.S. Army and Fiona had an in-depth musical upbringing and was raped at age 12. Maynard is adept at hiding -so called- 'easter eggs' in just about anything he creates. Master of Metaphor and analogy. Layers upon layers of concealed messages. His first hit song "Sober" deals with obvious addiction. A recurring theme as the evident "Thirteenth Step". "Prison Sex" about rape and sexual abuse. His profound concern with the Human Condition is evident. His criticism of North American culture(or lack thereof) is pure hatred expressed in "Aenima". These are his peripheral themes. Maynard has extensive knowledge of Religion. Those who do not, are lost in interpretation. Maynard is intriguing and appealing but I deem him to be dangerous as he is clever. What I'm about to describe is one of the most cunning and disrespectful insults to Christian Faith I'm aware of. He has a musical project called Puscifer. They have a song called "rev 22:20". It refers to the book of Revelation chapter 22 verse 20 and its about the 2nd coming of Christ where he warns us "I am coming quickly". So Maynard sings that Jesus is "coming". Maynard believes in God, Satan and that the world is about to end. He believes it and he knows it. He has extensive Bible knowledge. To know the Bible is to understand the condition the world is in. The thing is: Maynard accuses God of letting all of Humanity suffer and that he has no right to allow so much evil and sickness and misery. His mother Judith had a severe stroke when he was 11 years of age. She was very active in a Baptist church. The Biblical Truth thus defacto, is that a very powerful spiritual being(there are common 2-winged angels, 6-winged Seraphs and 4-winged Cherubs and one Archangel called Michael {notice how the angel Gabriel and a lot of Israeli names end with the suffix -el "IsraEL"} and spiritual beings who rebelled against God such as the demon who called himself Legion, have names that usually end with the suffix -on {DaemOn}) was so powerful in rank that he reasoned "We are beings of Light and Energy, but Humans are Matter" (God describes spiritual beings made of Light and Energy. We now suspect that Spirits are Boson particle-based creatures as Boson particles are force-carriers like radioactivity, gamma, radio and Xrays and Fermion particles like Protons and Neutrons have mass and make up Matter) this means all Humans should bow down to all Spiritual beings. Throwing science against religion is beginning to feel pretty dumb, isn't it? This powerful spirit known as Satan was claiming the right to be worshipped due to his high status and many other spirits followed this alluring proposition. God had already set up rules for the newly-created Homo Sapiens Sapiens. And there was only one rule! If you raise children, or train puppies or whatever, you establish some rules. It wasn't in YHWH's plans for his children to rebel. He created all beings capable of deciding, thinking, feeling, loving, etc. So the rebel known as Satan defied God, convinced other spirits and AFTER that he thought of a plan to make the first Humans rebel as well. If you compare your knowledge of pre-history you will notice that the transition from Hunter-gatherers to beings capable of Agriculture overlaps with the 6.000 years when the first Homo Sapiens Sapiens called Adam is mentioned in Genesis and fits historic accounts perfectly. If the president or king of a given country would kill all those who had a different view or ideology, what would he become? A dictator. YHWH decided that He would provide for enough time for the opposing party to prove its point. After that elapsed time, you either recognize your Creator, or, you don't. So, all spiritual beings that decided they should be worshipped, did EXACTLY that. They came to our domain and each went and did what they wanted: to be worshipped. The more powerful beings claimed kingdoms such as Babylon and Assyria and became the Annunaki, while lower status gods settled to rule over small tribes. It went like this: 'Worship me or your harvest this year will be destroyed and you will suffer famine". And now we are all in this mess together until YHWH decides to bring the Armageddon. The world is getting worse with each generation and now you know why. 60% of Maynard's lyrics is his way of blaming God for all our suffering. For allowing this for what seems to be such a long period of time. Do you feel that days, weeks and time, in general, is passing by faster and faster? If you do, it's because YHWH said he would shorten the period of time when suffering was at it's boiling point. It says so in Matthew 24:21 "for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short." This song does not circle around; Maynard goes straight to the point. He is asking God, why do good people have to suffer for things that are not their fault?

-        Mother of Learning - Deaf Kirielle Kazinski
-        Mother of Learning - Time Looper Kirielle Kazinski
fandom-specific dnw: romantic and/or sexual Zach/Zorian; physical parental abuse within the Kazinski family; significant exaggeration of canonical emotional neglect/abuse/general family dysfunction; explicit permanent erasure of time traveler characters in your fic who weren't erased in canon
Look, I just love Kirielle a lot, okay.  And there are two basic concepts that will not leave my brain when it comes to her, so I’ve requested both here—if not this exchange, when else?  Also, they’d definitely work great together, if you feel so inclined.
Anyway, concept 1—time traveler Kirielle.  I think it would be really interesting to explore how she dealt with all of it—she’s nine, not fifteen, so she’d be growing up while looking like a child, and she’d have to trick her way around people a lot more to get them to take her seriously. It would be different, also, depending on if she were a hanger-on or the Controller; ironically she’d probably have more support in her learning and growing if she were a hanger-on, since there’d be at least one other person looping with her then.  She’d also look like a lot less of a threat to anyone looking for those—physically, she’s nine years old, no matter how long she lives, and children are a lot less threatening than teenagers.
As for concept 2—I really should’ve mentioned this in my sign-up, but it slipped my mind at the time—I really, really don’t want to see fics that infantilize disabled characters—if Kiri’s deaf, she’s still gonna be herself, you know? Not exactly self-sufficient or anything, she is nine after all, but not a helpless little kid who can’t do anything on her own either.  And please don’t cure her—magic (or mundane) adaptive tech is fine, but please no outright cure.
That being said, I’m using “deaf” here in the looser sense, so do what you will with that piece of knowledge.
Anyway.  I’m fascinated by this idea, I think, because it would both fundamentally change Kirielle’s circumstances and be a big opportunity for worldbuilding—all we really know about disability in Eldemar is that modern disability theory is not a thing which is familiar to giant spiders or to fifteen-year-old boys.  But like—if she’s deaf, then that means that she can’t be the perfect little girl Cikan quite clearly wants her to be; I’d be very surprised if they didn’t raise her oral, didn’t try to hide her disability or at least make it as invisible as possible to everyone else.  And I’d imagine that there isn’t much of a Deaf community in Cirin of all places—maybe that makes her want to go to Cyoria even more, find a community there, learn a sign language so she can communicate in a way that’s easier for her.
Actually, I think it really would be interesting to combine these two—I know I already said they go great together, but like, it would just give her more time to find a community and a language and what it means to be a Deaf merchant family’s daughter in Eldemar, when you aren’t restricted to a tiny little village with parents who care too much about appearances.

-        World-weary broken people find comfort and understanding in each other
Don’t have any fandom-specific dnws here.
For Rev Arc, what I’m looking for is essentially consequences and fallout; canon is nice! Canon is very nice! But we don’t see a whole lot of what happens afterwards—all these kids who came of age during the war, who have to or can’t go back to school, who have to live with the world that exists after.  The new generation, who are in a lot of ways more akin in circumstance to canon HP’s characters than Rev Arc or RBC characters ever were. There was a war; the war’s been won. What now?
If you happened to be looking at the fix-it tag, I didn’t have any canonically dead characters in my requests, but I was definitely thinking of Draco when I requested it—you wouldn’t even really need to change much else, I don’t think, since he’s injured badly enough by the time Harry and Leo show up to put him out of commission for the rest of the war.  Also, I formatted Pansy’s tag the way I did because I was thinking of her reconciling herself after it all, if that makes sense.

fandom-specific dnw: age gaps in ships of more than 3 or so years when one character is underage; predatory manipulation between characters in the relationship in service of the relationship; transphobia directed at cisgender characters; crossdressing as fetish. I’d also rather not see any kind of serious relationship with at least one character disguising their gender pre-reveal of that disguise–flirting, starting to date a little is okay but if it’s going further please have them reveal it. Please don’t play into the idea of gender-disguised character as “trap”. If actual trans characters are present, then some transphobia isn’t a hard dnw—my gift in Heart Attack didn’t bother me at all.
also dnw characters requested as gender-disguised to be written as trans or to be written as absolutely loathing their disguise. other characters are fair game. if writing trans characters, dnw them to be explicitly nondysphoric (but not addressing it is fine).
So, uh, I’m sure you can see the… theme in all these requests.  For these ones especially, the freeforms aren’t the really iddy part; I just picked the ones I liked best and thought I suited the relationships best. It’s the ship tags that are the iddy part.
Look, I fell in love with Song of the Lioness as a kid, then I grew up and realized there was a tragic dearth of gender-flipped versions, and now I’m fishing for them in exchanges.
So give me this boy and the people in his life! Tell me a story—what is this world, that this is necessary?  How does he handle various aspects of it?  Or just let them go on an adventure or have a nice quiet day tbh, those would both be rad too.
