Wolfenstein: The New Order

Actually, no, I hate this cover, it's a bit too basic.

THERE WE GO!

Hugh. Not Hugh as in Hue or Hugh Neutron but Huh-gah, as in a sigh.

So, where do I start? Every now and then, I'll get an FPS where the mouse just does not gel right with the game, whether it be sensitivity or mouse smoothing or what, but for some reason I've had so many games seem so misoptimized and apparently I'm not the only one with this problem but I'm putting it all down here. Vertical sync. Vsync. Turn it off. It worked, that's all I can say.

My dad is someone that plays with his mouse set up an unbearable sensitivity anyway so this might fit him. You know what else my dad plays? Wolfenstein. At least, the older ones. I remember when we moved and he decided it was time to update his gaming catalog since most of his were 5+ years old with classics like the Quake trilogy, Doom 3 and Unreal but one of the games he picked up was Wolfenstein 2009. And oh boy do I have just as fond memories playing that game as he does. It's not the best reviewed game either, heck, I didn't even play it for myself but you better believe that every time he loaded up that game I was right there next to him. I'd pull up a chair, sit on the floor, heck I'd even stand and watch him play, I loved it.

I remember one time I heard him booting up the game and the pitter patter of the gunplay while I was in the shower. I can't say that I've taken a faster shower in my lifetime because I believe that might've been around the time he finally beat the game. Everyone talks about how Bioshock made this and that with all these neat powers and stuff but- you know what, this review isn't for that game, let's skip a little bit ahead. Of course, I was excited when New Order dropped except…my dad found a new game. I bought him the game around release and he still hasn't played it to this day and that was kind of our thing and I wasn't interested in the game he was playing (still playing actually, it's an MMO) anyways, I decided to carry it on anyway because from what I've seen of trailers and pictures, you get a laser gun. That's all I needed to know.

I'm familiar with id's style of gameplay with Doom and such, in fact, I've played the demo of New Colossus and may even recall the mouse problems to be apparent in that as well but I saw this for free on Epic and practically jumped for joy. One of the things that sets this game apart from the others in its franchise is that it tries to lean more into the futuristic stuff as well as Blazkowicz' character.

It's nifty to have the enemies with blue electric coming out of their helmets every now and then, it makes for a good symbol when shooting from a long distance.

As for story, I just raved about 2009's game but I couldn't read you back the story, just what you do in the gameplay and I feel like this might be a similar thing, the opening isn't all that great, it's kind of average war game material, not much of an opener in my opinion and if you really wanted me to dive in why, I actually played the beginning twice. I'm also not going to bother avoiding spoilers for this game since it's nearly 10 years old, just fair warning.

So it's pretty linear, there are things here and there that you can go off track and collect but the first level is the most linear part of the game in my opinion. If it was story driven or had a setpiece or something that would tie it all together, it'd be fine but it felt stagnant to me, nothing impressed me and had this not had the name attached then I might not have picked it up based on that alone. The plane wasn't much to me.

The game itself is split into two depending on who you choose to keep from dying at the beginning but that decision doesn't feel earned, it's kind of an all or nothing kind of deal, don't give me lame half excuses to pick one character over the other, that's just not fair. So what I jumped out of a plane and this guy happened to be there? So what the other guy threw a grenade one time and I tried to calm him down? Either build them up to make the decision that much more painful or don't give me any context at all. That's from a narrative point of view.

You see, it seemed like it was banking on its gameplay being good enough that you'd give it a pass like for the reason Blazko gets knocked out, a piece of shrapnel blows out of the hole, cuts the back of his head in the funkiest groove imaginable then lets him float out at sea, what is that? And I mean, I expect silly as well as seriousness, it's a game about cyborg nazis and one of the most over exaggerated nazi hunters but I feel the silliness is misplaced here and there.

But it picks up, the scenario they give to you afterwards is actually pretty cool. Someone who ends up injured and in a hospital/asylum, seeing these guys who put him here but not being able to do anything and stuck that way until you're pushed to the brink to either break out or die, then team up with a nurse. I just find that so cool, it's one of the reasons I look up to MGS5's intro so much.

Characters become meaningful (for a while), some even a little more so than others, like Caroline. She was actually introduced in 2009's game and she was carried over so if you didn't know her story, you get the gist here but it's a lot more meaningful if you played 2009 despite being a separate canon (but for some reason just isn't available on any storefronts...)

You can dual wield, I know I mentioned the laser gun and how that was all you needed to sell me on this game and yeah, it is fun when you use it, but it's still limited to certain areas and certain things. I also had a bit of trouble towards the end with getting the wires to line up so it'd actually cut the fence but it was still pretty cool.

There are actually a few side missions here and there but I can't help but feel that there should have been more, like maybe one after every mission. I mean they're mainly just fetch quests inside the base but that's just it, as an overall product, it teases its potential but didn't quite hit the bar for me. It would've been really cool to expand on that asylum idea and have him involuntarily kill, like seeing a nazi will trigger it and kick off the rest but no. Then they have these interesting side characters like Bombate who's there…but that's it. Or in my case, J (it depends on which playthrough you're on) but he gets introduced and you don't get to talk to him until later to which he explains that he doesn't even like America and explains why and how he just hates Nazis more, challenging Blaskowicz' pro American ideals but then the next time we see him he plays the Star Spangled Banner as if "Yeah, he got over that." there was no growth or anything there (there didn't need to be) but it just seemed rushed or shoved aside. You can have those types of things where they're shorter but what then when you don't go too deep into any of it? I was kind of disappointed by that ending because it all sounds so cool when you put it on paper but then in action, it just seemed like another level, like "That's it? Oh well", it didn't feel like a proper end for any of the characters. So it didn't win me over with playing the other later entries but maybe I'll give RTCW a try some time.

Spoilers for GW under the cut.

STORY/MAP

Judith!!! Why aren't you playable 😭. Imagine if she and Rodrigue hooked up. Double the sexy.

Claude said "three houses." I'm easily entertained.

Holst is always eating mushrooms and getting sick before meetings.

Shez just fighting this war to get at Jeralt and Byleth, lamo.

At least it's nice Edelgard won a battle not against the church. She actually chased the Alliance back. Though, it's only because of heel-face-turns.

Raphael's eyes are too light-colored. He looks creepy. And, man, Claude is really hard-carrying the Golden Deer for looks for men.

Arval is shitting on Claude for constant retreating lamo.

Still have no idea why he didn't ask Dimitri for help. He's like, oh, shit, the Empire's huge ass army is kicking our ass. They're also fighting the Kingdom. Oh, no, what do we do? Talk to Dimitri? Of course not. Why would we do that?

LINHARDT AND HILDA HAVE SUPPORTS. FUCK YES. It's the lazy duo. OMG, yes. I wanted this soooooo bad. It better be comedic genius.

The only place Gatekeeper really makes sense is the Kingdom right now. Why wouldn't he continue guarding the church?

There's a lot of Judith simping going on, and I'm here for it.

Lysithea over here openly hating the Empire. Can't blame her. I feel like all that "honorary Black Eagle" nonsense forget she HATES the Empire.

Why is Claude blaming himself for the Empire's aggression? Did I see this conversation in SB? I don't remember.

Once again, someone is unable to make reforms because Edelgard started a war lol. Both Claude and Dimitri had plans for reform and positive change, but they got halted because of Edelgard.

Is it just me or is Lorenz like really good? He and Dimitri are by far my favorite to play as so far.

SHEZ & LEONIE C SUPPORT

Ready for some mercenary bonding, I'd expect.

Uh oh. I forgot that they may disagree over Jeralt. Surprised she didn't react to Leonie name-dropping Jeralt though.

This is a pretty interesting support for lore potential.

MARIANNE & HILDA C SUPPORT

Judith! I love it when other characters show up in supports.

Is Hilda going to make Marianne do all the work? Oh, thank God. She's not, lol.

Hahah, Marianne sucked at organizing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Judith does not approve. This is funny so far.

SHEZ & HILDA C SUPPORT

Lamo at Shez charging head-first into every battle. Very shonen of them.

They have two very different fighting styles lol.

Lysithea is like, I expected you to be more reckless! Meanwhile, that support with Hilda she's too reckless.

I really don't get the vibe that Claude trusts Shez despite what Lysithea said, since he's not telling Shez anything.

Oh, no, Shez called Lysithea the "k" word. She's really prickly.

Love Shez calling Lysithea out for being a hypocrite and saying she's acting like a kid lamo.

That support is everything I hate about Lysithea.

LORENZ & LEONIE C SUPPORT

Bummed they only go to B. They might be my favorite pairings for each other.

Aww, man, that SUCKS for Leonie. I didn't think about that. She had to raise so much money to attend, only for it to last like a month. That hurts. It seems the church gave some back at least.

This is really similar to Shez and Lorenz's support, but I think Lorenz seems like he's coming from a much better place this time. In that one he was so fixated on class. Here he seems more worried he failed to help a commoner out.

LORENZ & MARIANNE C SUPPORT

Marianne got forced into this war 😭 Now I feel so bad for using her. But she's my favorite Golden Deer.

Lorenz offered to speak on her behalf. That's sweet.

I like him encouraging her, but it's still an example of why Dimitri/Marianne is so good. There's no "oh, just cheer up!" that rings so hallow. Raphael/Marianne is pretty good too, because he actually just cheers her up.

HILDA & LEONIE C SUPPORT

"Oh, Hilda, perfect!" - Leonie. "I am, aren't I?" - Hilda 🤣 It's even funnier because Leonie's not even fazed by it.

Leonie asked the wrong person to train lol. Hilda never wants to.

These two are so mismatched. 🤣🤣

Hilda just called Leonie cute lamo.

Did Hilda just invite "cute" Leonie to come to her tent for a bath?

IGNATZ & RAPHAEL C SUPPORT

Wow, they haven't spoken during the whole timeskip?

And Ignatz not bringing up his art at all is super sad.

So Ignatz doesn't want to be a knight and is one, and Raphael wants to be a knight but can't be one. All because of the war.

CLAUDE & RAPHAEL C SUPPORT

I learned absolutely nothing about either character in this support.

At least it brought up how the war is ruining common people's lives because Raphael's family can't travel because it's too dangerous.

I love how Claude's like "those silly eagles and lions always fighting each other" when Dimitri literally just wants to be left alone.

HILDA & LINHARDT C SUPPORT

This is the moment I've been waiting for.

He's like, lamo, you're working. Why?

"And to be clear. I'm not here to help." Linhardt is golden. "Oh, Linhardt, you're on break? Perfect! Then you can help me with this awful whatever that I'm doing!" He continues to be the most quotable.

"Your life seems to be one permanent break." 🤣🤣

Linhardt's even worse than Hilda. As it should be.

MARIANNE & LYSITHEA C SUPPORT

I fully anticipate this to be as awkward and pointless as Claude's and Raphael's support. But it's more Marianne content so . . .

Ohhhh wait, maybe I'm wrong if this is about crest drama.

Fuck that crest scholar. Leave Marianne alone.

Lysithea coming to Marianne's rescue about an annoying crest person is not what I expected, but I'm not upset about it.

Lysithea's really mature here. I like this.

This is the support they deserved in Houses.

NGL, this was actually really cool. REALLY wish it went higher than C.

LEONIE & LINHARDT C SUPPORT

Linhardt is such a mood.

It's refreshing to see Leonie not pressure Linhardt into changing, she just accepts him as his lazy self.

Linhardt's never been hunting, hunh. It's sweet he thought Leonie could use an owl mask for hunting.

And she got him a useless statue. At least he's trying now.

This is kinda cute, ngl. They made each other laugh.

MAIN BATTLE

OK, I was so convinced I accidentally clicked on my SB playthrough that I reset the game, but nope, this really opens with a conversation about why Bernie, a Black Eagle, is fighting . . .

Is this setting up for her recruitment or????

Ok, finally back to Claude and co. Just generic stuff about preparing for Edelgard's invasion though.

Love Judith calling Claude "little Claude." That's what SB is missing, an adult figure like Rodrigue or Judith.

All that talk with Bernie, and only Balthus is recruitable this chapter. Oh, well, I was planning on using him anyways.

Oh, finally! Holst. I was wondering when he's be playable. I should've guessed given I only had 3 units under my control and 4 non-controlled allies running around.

Man, Lorenz is just busted, isn't he?

Claude really doesn't tell his allies anything, does he? I appreciate Lorenz for calling him out on it.

Oh, and Shez can call him out too!

His plan is that Glouster never actually betrayed him, right? That he's a plant to backstab the Empire like in SB?

Balthus and Holst now playable, woot!

Also, it took me like half the battle to figure out that Holst was a sword unit. Like, IDK, he looks like a warrior. I only noticed it when I saw that Ferdinand would blow him away, lamo.

Cool to see Ferdinand leading this stuff though. Seeing him actually get to do something.

Yep, Glouster never wanted anything to do with Edelgard, lamo. Though, why isn't she here?

They really should've told Lorenz this plan. I mean, he's Glouster's kid. I mean, Lysithea knew, so why not Lorenz? Poor Lorenz.

Is it bad I'm more curious about why Glouster didn't tell Lorenz about the plan ahead of time than anything else going on in GW so far? IDK, I just really like more personal drama I guess. Rather than Edelgard tries to kill everyone round, what is it now like 7 routes??

It's better in AG and SB because they're more tied to/involved in the drama. Poor Claude and the Deer seem destined to feel like a third-wheel again so far.

My big hope is that Edelgard realizes she can't take both the Kingdom and the Alliance at the same time, so she decides to focus on the Kingdom only since that's where Rhea is (and, let's face it the country she'll have a WAYYYY harder time bringing to heel under her dominance than the Alliance). So that'll free Claude and co up to do something more interesting than exactly the same thing he did in AM/VW/SS/CF/AG/SB so far. Yikes. I mean, Shahaid or however you spell his name is still there, right? Let Almyra be relevant.

P: Partner In Crime | If they were to go after a lee and accept the aid of a tickle partner, who do they prefer to join hands with and why?

I feel like the two of them would be perfect tickle partners LOL they both radiate the same fun big brother energy that would tickle other characters silly

If they can't choose each other, then I think Childe would pair well with Kaeya. I feel like they would both be so good at teasing so their lee would just perish on the spot the minute both of them open their mouths

I think Childe would also pair well with Hu Tao, mainly just for wrecking Zhongli together lol but I genuinely think they'd make really good friends and they'd both be really playful ticklers

For Itto, I think he'd pair up well with Ayato! Itto isn't good with words and I think Ayato would be king of teasing whereas Itto trips over his own words quite often. I think they'd have different styles of tickling with Ayato being more gentle and Itto having rougher tickle, so it creates this mixture of different sensations. Also, Itto can just hold someone down while Ayato tickles them lol

Definitely Ryuji from P5 and Itto lmao maybe it's because I play in English and they both share the same English VA and both sound like each other and have similar personalities and are misjudged by society so they're practically the same! I think Ryuji would lose this mainly because Itto big

For Childe, Raihan from Pokemon! They're both confident borderline cocky characters that wouldn't back down from a fight and are very headstrong. I think Raihan would win and he'd definitely pose in front of his Rotom phone with Childe like passed out in the background lol

Not to be a Childe kinny or anything but one time I was planning a tickle session with a guy that I've had sessions with before and I remember him telling me "happy to have you back. you're very impish which makes things fun" and this stuck with me because I remember being like "wtf does impish mean" LOL but yeah I might project specific spots onto Childe because I think Childe would be playful too when being tickled idk alskdjfkl

Oh god idek about Itto I feel like he's someone that would annoy me irl so I don't have anything to project lmao if anything I would like abs like him and for someone to gently trace the lining of them alksdjfk

I: Interrogation | How well would they handle a tickle interrogation?

Neither of them would handle this very well LOL

At first Itto would be like "lol tickling gl fools" but then after like two minutes he'd just give them whatever they wanted yeah idk I feel like Itto would be super weak to this and they'd definitely keep tickling him afterwards because it's fun messing with him lol

I don't think Childe would cave, but he doesn't do a good job at hiding the fact that he's ticklish and I think he would begin to beg for mercy at some point without actually giving up and he'd definitely yell profanities throughout his laughter. His ticklers will probably see how much it's affecting him and continue tickling him and he doesn't hate tickling, but moreso hates that he's not in control of the situation.

Also neither of them can handle teasing. Itto would be affected more by his ticklers wiggling their fingers at him and I think Childe wouldn't be able to handle verbal teasing because he has a lot of pride and his ticklers would definitely tease him about the fact that a Fatui Harbinger is actually weak to something like tickling

Jimin swoons as he adds his finishing touches to Taehyung's face, and you inspect his handiwork, nodding with approval at the bright yellow stars that go from Taehyung's left temple to his cheek.

"Perfect. Gorgeous. Amazing. Show-stopping." Jimin is rambling, waving his arms in the air as Taehyung watches him fondly and chuckles.

Meanwhile, Yoongi sits on his bed, staring at his phone. Jimin has given him dark cat eyes with purple glitter lining the bottom lid, and even as he sulks quietly, he looks breathtaking.

"Why are you being so emo?" Hoseok shouts to Yoongi from the doorway. Then he turns to look to you for answers, and you shrug, watching him wave his friend off.

But the truth is, you do know why Yoongi is being so emo. The moment you walked in the door wearing a tight, spaghetti-strapped little back dress with high slits up the short skirt, he looked like he had seen a ghost, inhaling sharply before averting his eyes away every chance his gaze happened to fall on you.

Jimin and Taehyung must have conspired because as soon as you walked in the door, shivering from the cool winter air after Taehyung insisted you leave your jacket in his car, Jimin came running from his room with a long leopard print coat, screaming, "Oh my god, it's perfect!"

Bottles of soju are passed around while Jimin matches his eyeshadow and lipstick to his red rhinestone-covered choker, dressed in his standard head-to-toe black. Hoseok wears glittery white eyeshadow with white stars littering his temples and cheeks, which stands out beautifully against his perfectly tanned skin, and although you're shocked to see him in all black, he looks radiant. You blink and see blue glitter in your eyelashes, thinking about how Jimin did your makeup similar to Yoongi's, with the addition of stars on your face, similar to Taehyung's, but in all blue.

Each member of the band has crimped hair that is styled messily, and they have a plain black tee tucked into tight black pants. Jimin has also styled Taehyung's hair, and his black button-up shirt is unbuttoned enough to make every member of the household sneak glances at his chest. Now that you all seem to be about ready to leave, you excuse yourself to the bathroom, knowing that soon you will need to head toward the venue.

When you exit the bathroom, everyone has left Yoongi's bedroom. Jimin is hopping around and hanging off of Taehyung in the living room, whining about how excited he is that the two of you get to see them play, while Yoongi and Hoseok are in the kitchen, murmuring to one another. You begin to approach Taehyung and Jimin, but Hoseok turns and waves you over, so you change course and walk into the kitchen.

"What's up?" you ask, looking from Hoseok to Yoongi.

"I'm trying to give Jimin as much one-on-one time with Tae as he can have so he's not bothering us all night by talking about him," Hoseok says playfully.

You scoff, looking at the floor because you are nervous about making too much eye contact with Yoongi, especially while on the topic of Taehyung, and simply respond, "That's a good plan."

"You look really nice tonight," Yoongi says, which takes you by surprise because he has already told you so much privately, and now he is saying it in front of Hoseok.

You look up, eyes wide, gently bowing your head as you say, "Thank you."

Hoseok scoffs and shifts around on his feet, muttering, "Look, I can tell you're both into each other, so stop acting so fucking awkward."

You gasp and look at Hoseok, who has a shit-eating grin plastered across his face. If he knows, surely Taehyung also knows, right?

Yoongi chuckles, so you loosen up and laugh it off, as well. No use in being too worried, especially since Taehyung seems to be fond of Yoongi. You stand in silence while Yoongi and Hoseok continue their conversation about tonight's set, which you assume is what they were talking about before you joined them, fiddling with your hands, in front of your chest.

"Should we go soon?" Jimin asks, prancing into the kitchen.

Yoongi checks the clock on the stove and shrugs, muttering, "May as well."

"Alright, boys, I'll drive the equipment and meet you there?" Hoseok suggests, walking toward the front door. Jimin and Yoongi agree, and both walk toward the hallway to their bedrooms to grab their jackets.

You stand alone with Taehyung, smiling brightly at him as he wraps an arm around your waist. "Poor Yoongi can't keep his eyes off of you," he whispers. You feel uncomfortable talking about Yoongi with him but shrug your shoulders with a soft smile.

"Maybe I'll ask if he wants to come back with us after," Taehyung purrs, voice deeper, "Would you like that, kitten?"

You know you would like to be with Yoongi after, and it has been a while since you and Taehyung had sex, which you admit you are beginning to miss quite a bit. But would Yoongi go for it? Would the two of them be compatible? Yoongi seems pretty hellbent on having you for himself, and he is almost unreadable around Taehyung.

As the boys filter back into the living room with their jackets, you go over to the couch and grab the coat that Jimin lent you. It is then that you realize Yoongi is also wearing a leopard print jacket.

"See!" Jimin beams, "We thought it would be so cute if you two match!"

Yoongi shoots you a playful wink, and you feel your cheeks warm.

Taehyung beams, "Two gorgeous kittens, what a treat!" and you notice the effect it has on Yoongi as he also blushes, toying with the hem of the jacket between his fingers.

Is he considering what you said about Taehyung being willing to share when he's around, or that Taehyung may have a crush on him? You are ushered out the door before you can think about it much more by Jimin, who has linked your elbow in his.

"So excited you're here tonight!" Jimin squeals, hopping around and tugging you with him.

"Me too, Jimin," you giggle. "I've been looking forward to this all week!"

You glance back, and Yoongi is smirking while Taehyung leans to the side, muttering something to him. What on earth could those two be talking about, you wonder.

Once you get to the venue, you're greeted by many friends of theirs who you met last time, and everyone swoons at Taehyung during their introductions. The guys disappear to help Hoseok carry their equipment inside, so you make your way to the bar to get a head start on your next drink. After about ten minutes, Yoongi approaches with a smirk.

"Drinking my whiskey, hmm?" he asks, and you grin playfully.

"Didn't see your name on it," you tease, making Yoongi roll his eyes before he turns to the bartender to order himself the same thing.

"So," you attempt to hold the same light tone, "what did you and Taehyung talk about on the way here?"

Yoongi hesitates, looking down at the drink that he is swirling around in his glass. Nervous tick? After a moment, you think he is finally going to spill the beans, but the rest of the guys join you at the bar, and Yoongi wanders off to talk to someone else while you and the others settle into the crowd.

The band that plays first is the same one you saw the night of the glam rock performance, except this time they are playing music that is a little more aggressive. There is a small mosh circle in front of the stage, but people have mostly clustered around, watching the band as they dance, many of them sing-shouting along to the lyrics. Yoongi is shouting with his arms in the air while Jimin and Hoseok are less animated but just as captivated by their friends on stage.

You and Taehyung are behind the guys, alternating between watching them and watching the band, and you swoon. A flutter of excitement and anxiety builds in your guts, knowing they will be on stage later.

Once that band finishes, music plays over the speakers while they walk their instruments off stage, save for the drums, which Hoseok adds a few more to. Yoongi and Jimin carry a keyboard, guitar, and bass to the stage, which gives you pause; there are three of them, so who plays the fourth instrument?

Taehyung offers to refill your drink while you stand and wait, watching the boys set up. Your eyes are stuck on Yoongi, and after your previous conversation over text, you are definitely checking out his ass, which makes you feel a little shy and even a bit nervous.

They tune up briefly, with Hoseok hitting the drums that he has added to the kit that was already set up, while speaking into a microphone, followed by Jimin playing a few licks on the bass and speaking into his microphone. Yoongi straps the guitar over his shoulder, playing some cords before turning on the keyboard and testing it. He mumbles into a microphone before taking the guitar off and placing it onto a stand.

"Wow, two instruments," Taehyung says into your right ear, making you jump. "Just imagine how talented those fingers are."

You turn to him with wide eyes, and he chuckles before planting a soft kiss on your cheek and handing you a glass of whiskey. The guys leave the stage to go back to the bar, and Jimin tugs on you and Taehyung, shouting, "Shots, babes!" so you follow along.

"This set is dedicated to you two," Jimin beams toward you and Taehyung with his small glass of soju in the air. You all hold your glasses up before shooting them back. Compared to the whiskey, the soju tastes quite sweet.

"I'm actually gonna pee quick before they start," you mutter to Taehyung once everyone has set their shot glasses on the bar. "Hold this?"

Taehyung takes your whiskey, and you excuse yourself to the restroom, snaking through the growing crowd to the other side of the space, there is a short hallway and two gender neutral rooms with stalls and urinals. As soon as the door closes behind you, it swings back open, and Yoongi grabs onto your arm, pulling you into him.

Although the restroom is gender neutral, you are shocked to see him, but before you can ask what he is doing, Yoongi's lips are against yours, and he is moaning softly, and sweetly. The scent of his musk and faint taste of cherry chapstick overwhelms you in the best way, and you sink into the feeling, stumbling forward when he pulls out of the chaste kiss.

"For good luck," Yoongi mumbles before turning and leaving you standing there stunned for a few minutes before you rush to empty your bladder, wash your hands and return to the crowd.

When the guys take the stage, the room erupts, and even before they can play the first note, you feel so proud to know them, glancing around at the eager eyes of their audience. Their music is fast-paced, heavy, and fun, and people dance, jump, and shove each other while yelling along to the lyrics. You are absolutely captivated by Jimin's stage presence as he grinds and sways behind his bass while delivering impressive growls and screams and a surprisingly sweet voice when singing.

Yoongi plays the guitar primarily, switching from time to time to the keyboard in front of him, and when he leans forward to growl into the mic, you feel your heart pound in your chest, and your legs begin to weaken. At one point, Yoongi’s eyes meet yours, and he winks before leaning back and playing a guitar solo that makes your head spin. His fingers are, in fact, very talented. Taehyung even judges you, sending a wink when you turn to meet his eye, causing warmth to spread over you.

Hoseok is a beast on the drums, and you are amazed by his stamina and speed, smiling softly every time his heart-shaped mouth screams into the microphone that is craned over the kit. The energy on the stage is unmatched by anything you have seen before, and although they play for close to an hour, you are sure that you could stand there and watch them all night. Judging by the crowd's energetic cheers at the end, you can tell you are not the only one.

Once their set ends, the guys leave the stage and go straight to the bar, where you follow them while Taehyung excuses himself to the bathroom. As soon as you approach, Yoongi drapes an arm around your shoulder, and you are met with the smell of his sweat mixing his cologne, which has you feeling like you might just melt where you stand. He looks so happy, and you find yourself smiling along simply from watching him smile and laugh with Jimin, Hoseok, and their friends.

"That was incredible," you find the courage to finally say, and Yoongi turns to you with a soft, sweet, somewhat drunk gaze.

"You're incredible," Yoongi mumbles, and at that moment, you wish you were the only two people in the room as you watch his eyes fall to your lips and his tongue dance out to moisten his own.

When Taehyung returns, he goes straight to Jimin's side, pulling him into his chest for a side hug. Yoongi does not remove his arm from around your shoulder, and Taehyung does not seem to notice it aside from glancing your way to tell Yoongi he was amazing. Hoseok has his back to the group, talking up some handsome man, leaving the four of you paired up.

"We usually stay here to drink for the rest of the night," Jimin tells you before turning to Taehyung. "You guys down? Or do you want to get out of here and drink somewhere else?"

You all share glances, but before anyone can respond, Jimin's attention is torn away from the group, and Taehyung takes that as an opportunity to get closer to you and Yoongi, leaning on the bar so that he is near eye-level with you. You can see the gears turning, and you feel nervous about what may come out of his mouth next.

"I think we should get out of here," Yoongi says, and you are startled to hear the words you expected to come out of Taehyung's mouth come from him.

Taehyung grins, looking between you and Yoongi, and when you look over at Yoongi, he has a smirk. What on earth did these two talk about before? Although it is no surprise that Taehyung is interested, Yoongi has talked some pretty big game about not being on Team Tae.

"Wh-where should we go?" you finally ask.

Taehyung stands up straight, raising his eyebrows to Yoongi, who hums as if he is weighing the options. "Well, regardless of where we go, we gotta pay the tab," he says as he reaches for his wallet.

Yoongi tenses beside you. "It's cool, we all pitch in for it, and we get a discount for playing," he insists, but Taehyung waves him off.

"Nonsense, you guys gave an amazing show, the least I can do is cover the drinks." He says before telling the bartender to just have Jimin sign for the tab at the end of the night to ensure it is covered under his card, which has been scanned, making Yoongi scoffs beside you.

"Showoff," you hear him mumble, and you chuckle.

"Alright, well," Taehyung begins, turning to the two of you, "Yoongi's place is closer, but I don't know how you feel about going back there."

"Oh, yeah they won't be back until the sun starts coming up," Yoongi responds, nodding his head in the general direction of his roommates. You get goosebumps, and suddenly the arm around your shoulder feels heavy. As if he can feel the anxiety radiating from you, Yoongi gives you a squeeze.

"I'll grab our jackets then, and we'll head out?" Taehyung offers before walking toward the stage, where the jackets are all piled up behind a curtain.

You look at Yoongi, and he tugs on the bottom of his lip with his teeth, turning the side of his mouth into a smirk.

"Want to tell me what you guys are planning," you ask, "or do I already know?"

Yoongi's lips move to your ear, grazing over the skin as he speaks. "He suggested earlier that, if we wanted, we should get to know each other a little better after this. Of course, by me agreeing to play along, I hope you don't feel any pressure to do anything. I'm just happy I seem to have his majesty's permission to touch you a little."

You turn your face into Yoongi, pressing your temple into his forehead. "I thought you wouldn't be interested in him being there."

"I'm sure I could agree to worse scenarios if it meant having a chance with you," he purrs, velvety and hot, sending a shiver down your spine.

When Taehyung returns, Yoongi's arm leaves your shoulder, and you feel the urge to whine about how cold you are; only Jimin's jacket is quickly draped around you, serving as a decent alternative to Yoongi's intoxicating body heat.

Yoongi leads the way, hugging his roommates and their friends good night before ushering you out into the cold. You feel dazed and dizzy on the walk home, more aware of your drunkenness as you are tasked with putting one foot in front of the other. Taehyung and Yoongi talk about music, and you hardly listen; you just walk between them, hands grazing one another from time to time until you are back at Yoongi's apartment.

As soon as you're inside, Taehyung kicks off his shoes and goes into the kitchen for soju and some glasses. You and Yoongi giggle as you struggle to get out of your boots, and you fall into the closed door when you lose your balance. He drops to his knee and unties them for you before untying his own, and you stand there watching him, waiting for him to finish so he can determine where you might go from here.

"Hey Yoongi," Taehyung calls from the kitchen, his voice deep and commanding. He is leaning against the counter with his arms crossed over his chest, and his lips are tugged into a sly smile. He has set out three glasses that have been filled with the sweet, alcoholic drink, and Yoongi looks up quickly, almost as if he is worried about what Taehyung calls his attention to, standing up slowly.

"Can you do me a favor?" Taehyung asks.

"S-sure," Yoongi says, pushing his hands into his denim pants pockets.

"I want you to kiss her," Taehyung requests.

Yoongi's eyes widen, and he turns to you, seemingly waiting for your reaction, but you watch him as well, unsure of what to say. Of course, you want to kiss him, but you worry that he will not enjoy performing for an audience or that he might not want Taehyung involved in any way, despite seeming into it at the bar.

"Sh-should we discuss boundaries and expectations first," Yoongi asks, turning to Taehyung.

Taehyung smiles and picks up his glass, and takes a sip from it, then nods. "Of course," he responds, gesturing to the couch.

You walk over, taking off Jimin’s jacket and draping it over the back of the sofa before taking a seat. Yoongi has stepped into the kitchen to help carry the glasses, handing one to you when he returns, before sitting beside you. Taehyung sits to Yoongi's right, leaning back against the armrest to keep his eyes on the two of you. Nobody speaks, and you shift around, feeling a little anxious.

"Yoongi," you say softly, and when he turns to you, butterflies dance around your stomach. His sharp cat eyes are painted in black and purple, and his pouty lips are lightly glossy. Your voice is meek when you say, "Why don't you start?"

Yoongi hums and nods his head. "To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm ready to do anything with...with a man," he says, glancing over to Taehyung.

Taehyung sits forward, resting his elbows on his knees, cradling his head in one hand while swirling his soju glass around with the other.

"Tonight, I'm merely a spectator."

Yoongi looks at you, searching your face for a reaction before turning back to Taehyung. His voice is somewhat timid as he asks, "Y-you just want to watch?"

Taehyung drags his bottom lip through his teeth and flashes a mischievous, boxy grin. "Watch and direct...if you feel so inclined."

"And you?" Yoongi faces you, eyes wide with anticipation, "How do you feel?"

You inhale deeply, scared to sound too eager but not wanting to come off as indifferent. "I want...you. Whatever that entails."

Yoongi smiles and lightly nods, downing his soju as he sits forward, placing his glass on the table with a loud thunk. As Yoongi settles back, he pulls his left arm up, stretching it along the back of the couch, behind you, and you take a drink from your cup as well, placing it down on the table before settling back, next to Yoongi. You are acutely aware of the pounding of your heart, trying not to breathe too hard or too loudly as Yoongi's fingers dance across your neck, and when you look at him, he bites his bottom lip, patting his lap with his right hand.

Your eyes fall to his hand on his lap before traveling up to a smirking, patient Taehyung, finally landing back on Yoongi as he wets his lips.

Yoongi's voice sounds like velvet as he says, "Come here and give me a kiss."

ok, so I missed WBW, but I'm sliding in just in time for the end of Blorbo Blursday! If your characters had to attend a wedding, who would be on the dance floor, who would be stealing other people's cake, and who would be flirting with the bridesmaids (or groomsmen)? (this is I guess assuming a western wedding, but could be any style!)

Oh, I know exactly why you are asking this, and I love you for it, because your excitement over Ambrose and Eli's wedding/engagement is giving me brainrot, both about them and about my own characters. And you're in luck, because I have thought more than a little about Kristopher and Fallon's wedding. So, I'm going to talk about this like the other characters have all been invited (which they totally would).

Side Note: I have never been to a wedding, since all my cousins are close-ish in age to me, so college-age, which means no weddings in the family. And all my aunts/uncles are happily married for years, etc. There literally hasn't been a wedding in my family since I was like, 5, and that was a very distant relative, so I didn't go. So, long story short, this is based on my very limited knowledge of weddings.

Side Note 2: Because my limited knowledge of weddings is based on western weddings, since that's where I live / what my family would have, assume that Fallon and Kristopher's wedding follows a similar pattern, but with some slight changes. The best one being that Fallon's dress is red, and Kris is also wearing some red. (white weddings are only a thing bc of Queen Victoria, and she never existed, so why are weddings white? They're not. <3)

Fallon and Kris are obviously the bride and groom, and they are absolutely just being adorable. They're slow dancing and talking quietly, and can't stop just starting at each other all moony-eyed, and I love them.

Nora is either on the dancefloor or at the bar, and generally just being the life of the party. (Not in like, a sloppy drunk way, but in like, a "come on, don't just stand around, this is a party!!" way.) She's just trying to make things less stiff and boring, and definitely getting some sideways looks from the stuffy nobles, lmao.

Hermes is probably the one who's like "are you going to finish that?" with everyone's cake. He would also just be super chatty, and even though no one knows who the hell he is, he'd have a bunch of friends by the end of the party.

Both of those two might be open to flirting with anyone. (they're both bi/pan, so all options are on the table, lmao)

Duncan would just be chilling, talking calmly with some of the nobles he knows. Someone (probably Fallon) might convince him to play the piano for them, and that would be really cute, but he'd be super nervous and awkward about it. He'd probably get more attention than he knows what to do with, lmao.

Nina would be hiding on the edges of the party, just watchign everyone else have fun, cause crowds make her shy, not to mention that she still has a crush on Fallon. :'( But she'd definitely wish Fallon and Kris well.

Lavinia wouldn't be there.

Captain Blackthorne would be trying really hard not to be all mushy, but he does basically view Fallon as his daughter, so he's going to fail.

Kristopher's sister is dancing and vibing, and just enjoying her time with her brother and Fallon, as well as her time away from her family (both married and birth).

MIRRORS: CHAPTER 7

Summary: In Mainverse, the appearance of the pair from Villainverse has apparently caught the attention of the gods. Will this attention be a good thing, or perhaps be a problem?

Author Notes: i'm back finally with another chapter! this is a special chapter that marks the beginning of the original mirrorsverse context; this is no longer taking place in the dragon ball universe! some changes have been made to the story and characters, such as names and designs, as well as an art style shift! i hope you enjoy the changes ive made! <3

Another day passes in the Land of Creation--the realm where the Gods of Creation reside. Here, a creator god sits by herself in a field, seeming concentrated on one area of the sky. A figure creeps up quietly behind her, not making a sound…

“So, what is the North Creator up to today, then?”

She’s startled, but her body relaxes when she realizes who has joined her, and she lets out an annoyed sigh. “Oro, don’t you have better things to do than bother me? Go back and watch over the South Quadrant like you’re supposed to. I have bigger things to worry about over here.”

“Oh?” The other creator god, Oro, looks out to try and see what she is looking at. “Like what?”

“A lemurian living on Earth. His counterpart from a parallel universe somehow hopped through the cosmos with a wormhole and came to stay with him for a few days. I’m keeping an eye on him for now to make sure he doesn’t try doing the same thing.”

“A lemurian?” Oro seems interested. He squints, focusing where she is concentrated on. His vision flies through the galaxy, zooming in on one particular spot of planet Earth, where a lemurian farmer and his mother are seeming to practice. It’s Patoto and Zumeg, and Zumeg is encouraging her son.

“Come on, Patoto, you can do it! Dig deeper!”

“I’m trying…!” Patoto says as he seems to be straining himself to power up. In an abrupt blast of power, he achieves Super Lemurian--something he’s used to--but this time, he’s trying to reach a higher level.

The sight amazes Oro, and he widens his eyes. “What in the world is that?”

The other god doesn’t look from her spot. “It’s called Super Lemurian. Their race can achieve transformations like that to grow more powerful. There’s also a Super Lemurian Two, which is what I assume this lemurian is trying to reach. There may even be a third level.”

Oro watches in awe. “Such power…”

...should be used by a god.

He stands up straight and waves his hand as he turns to leave. “Well, you have fun with that. I’ll be off back to my own business.”

The other god frowns a little. “It’s about time.”

As Oro walks away, he glances over his shoulder with a rather devious expression.

Back on Earth, Patoto leans over onto his knees, obviously winded from all the exertion. “Phew… I think I’m gettin’ closer!”

Zumeg smiles and walks over to pat his back. “I think you are, too. Your energy seems a lot more intense now than it was before.” She walks by him, then. “I’ll go get us some drinks. You deserve a break. I’ll be right back, okay?”

“Okay!”

As Zumeg disappears into the house, Patoto is left to stretch happily. However, almost immediately, his body transforms into that of the creation god, Oro. He’s confused by his new, smaller appearance, looking down at himself. “H-huh? What the--?”

“This is a very interesting planet you have here.”

Patoto looks over to where the voice came from. There floating in the air is what looks to be himself, wearing strange new clothes and earrings. Patoto is even more confused than he was before. “H-hey… That’s my face!”

His copy grins wickedly. “Finders, keepers, I guess. Hm…” He looks over Patoto’s clothes, seeming to inspect them for a moment before waving his hand over his own body. His wardrobe changes to that of Patoto’s suddenly, except this version is all black. He grins and holds out his hands to his sides. “Blends in a little better, don’t you think?”

Just as this happens, Zumeg returns from the house with two drinks. She stops in her tracks when she sees the scene playing out before her, furrowing her brow. “What in the world?”

Patoto looks back at her. “Mom!!” He quickly makes his way over to his mother and points at the false Patoto. “Mom, this stranger stole my body…!”

She looks at him confusedly. “What…?”

“Please believe me!” Patoto urges. “I’m Patoto! That guy over there isn’t me; he stole my face!”

Zumeg looks back at the apparent copycat. He has a sick smirk on his lips, which causes her to frown. “... I believe you. My son would never look at me like that.”

Setting the drinks down, she walks away from the real Patoto and glares at the newcomer. “Who the hell are you? What do you want with my son?”

The fake Patoto sticks up his nose with a grin. “It makes sense that you wouldn’t know me. I am Oro, one of the five Creators of your universe.”

“Creators? What the hell are you talking about?”

“Of course you wouldn’t understand. To put it simply, I am a god of your world.”

Patoto looks at his hands. “A...god? Y’mean I have a god’s body right now?”

“Yes. But, I don’t expect you to know how to use it, heh.”

Zumeg chimes in. “What would a god want with my son, then?”

Oro folds his arms behind his back, looking around at the scenery. “I was watching you all from my world and I saw something amazing. You transformed and became much more powerful than you were before. I saw this power and realized that it was much more suitable for a god than it was a measly mortal. So, I wanted to try it out for myself.”

“So, you stole my son’s body?” “Borrowed without asking.” Oro raises a hand and charges up an energy ball with it. “I wanted to play around with it for a while.”

Realizing what’s about to happen, Zumeg dives back towards Patoto and tackles him out of the way just before a ball of energy hits the ground where he stood. Once they’re safe, she turns back and snarls at Oro. “Hey!!”

Oro doesn’t seem to be paying attention to her. He’s looking at his hand, mesmerized. “Amazing… Even at base strength, the power is incredible. Now, for that transformation…”

Zumeg and Patoto watch as Oro channels his energy through his body, yelling as he does so. In a sudden burst, his hair turns blonde and his eyes go crimson, completing the transformation to Super Lemurian. He looks back at his hands, smiling. “Amazing…! I’m overflowing with immense power! This transformation is outstanding!”

Zumeg starts walking towards him. “Alright, you’ve had your fun! Give my son back his body!”

She charges at him with a punch, but he blocks it easily with his finger. In response, she begins to throw a flurry of punches, but he blocks all of them with a finger as well, almost taunting her. With a smirk, he suddenly whaps her away with his tail, and she goes flying.

Patoto is watching from the ground in dismay when he’s suddenly joined by another person seemingly out of thin air. He turns to look at them--a woman with pink skin and white hair, similar in appearance to his current body. “W-who are you?”

She turns to look at him. “I am Enlil, a God of Creation. I’m the Creator in charge of your universe quadrant. I’m here to stop Oro from causing more trouble than he already has.”

Patoto blinks. “You’re a god, too?”

Behind them, Kinpa and Evelyn come hurrying out of the house, apparently having heard the ruckus outside. Evelyn looks at the two standing in front of the porch. “What’s goin’ on out here?”

She notices Zumeg and Oro in the sky as they fight. “What in the world are they doin’ up there?”

“Your son’s body has been stolen by a god who thinks he can just do whatever he wants,” replies Enlil. She gestures towards the real Patoto beside her. “This is your Patoto.”

Patoto’s eyes start to tear up. “Mama…”

As he rushes over and hugs her, Evelyn looks startled. “P-Patoto…?”

Kinpa looks from Patoto up to the dueling lemurians. “So… That’s not Patoto? That’s a god in Patoto’s body? How did he switch bodies like that?”

“He used objects called the wishing stones on a planet called Phibia to wish it that way,” Enlil explains. “Unfortunately, those wishing stones can only be used once a year. I have to find a way to keep him at bay until they can be used again.”

Kinpa thinks for a moment. “Wishing stones…? Hey, don’t we have those on Earth? I remember an icejin talking about them.”

Enlil looks over at him in surprise. “Really?” She proceeds to close her eyes for a moment in silence, and she then opens them again. “You’re right! How did I not see them before? There’s a phibian on this planet who has a set.” She turns to Kinpa and holds out her hand. “Come with me. I need someone with me in case something goes wrong.”

Kinpa looks at her hand before hesitantly taking it. “U-um… Okay.”

In an instant, the two teleport away, leaving Evelyn there with Patoto. The next thing they know, they’ve arrived at what seems to be a campsite in the middle of a forest somewhere. As they look around, someone opens the door to the little hut that is sitting in front of them.

A green-skinned individual, the phibian in question, comes out and blinks. “Oh! Can I help you?”

Enlil steps forward. “We don't have much time to explain, but we need to use your wishing stones. There’s a crisis that could eventually endanger the whole world if we don’t stop it right now.”

The phibian looks them over. It doesn’t take long for him to nod in approval. “Okay. I can tell your intentions are good. Let me get them for you.” He starts to disappear into his hut, but he looks over his shoulder first. “Name’s Kigai, by the way! It’s nice to meet you. Now, give me one second…”

Back on the farm, Zumeg and Oro continue their fight as Evelyn and Patoto watch in concern. Zumeg is getting beaten back pretty good by Oro, who hasn’t even broken a sweat. The god dodges elegantly away from every punch.

“This was fun for a while,” he muses, “but now it’s starting to get annoying. You’re persistent; I’ll give you that. But…”

He points two fingers at her before firing a laser beam through her chest. She falls to the ground lifelessly as Evelyn and Patoto watch in shock.

“You should know never to cross a god.”

“How do we summon the dragon?”

Kigai looks at Enlil after finishing arranging the wishing stones on the ground. “Like this…” He hovers his hands above the stones. “Wish dragon Shtelru, by your name, I summon you!”

The stones begin to glow a brilliant blue, and then, suddenly, an energy beam shoots upward out from them. From the beam forms a giant dragon, towering above the group. Kigai and Enlil seem unfazed, but Kinpa is blown away from the size of the creature.

Soon enough, the dragon speaks. “Speak your wishes now, and I will grant them, if it is within my power,” he booms.

Kigai gestures to Shtelru, turning to Enlil. “Go ahead.”

Enlil steps forward. “Great dragon, I wish for you to switch Oro and Patoto’s bodies back to normal!”

Shtelru’s eyes glow a bright red. “Very well. It is done.”

In an instant, Oro and Patoto’s bodies swap back to their original owners. Oro looks down at his body in confusion. “What?!”

Meanwhile, Enlil turns to Kinpa. “Kinpa, you stay here. I need to make sure it worked. I’ll be back.” She looks up at the dragon again. “Shtelru, can you wait just a moment?”

“Do not make me wait long.”

“I won’t.”

Enlil teleports back to the farm, leaving Kinpa to stand with Kigai. When she arrives, she’s greeted by the scene of Evelyn holding her wife on the ground, sobbing over her body.

“Zumeg…!” Evelyn cries. “Zumeg, wake up…!”

Enlil is shocked. She looks to where Patoto is standing with his fists clenched tightly at his sides, now in his own body. He is trembling.

“You… You shoulda never hurt my mom,” he growls. The air around him begins to crackle as his energy spikes. Suddenly, he explodes with power, his hair turning blonde and his eyes burning red. Tears are streaming down his face. “I’ll make you pay!!!”

He launches himself at a surprised Oro, who proceeds to get the punch of his life directly to the face.

He’s flung back through the trees, crashing through the forest before skidding to a stop in a ditch formed by the impact of his body on the ground. He opens his eyes just in time to see Patoto flying towards him, and he just barely dodges an intensely-powerful blow that instead strikes the ground below him. Patoto snaps around as Oro tries to fly away, grabbing him by the leg before slamming him directly into the ground.

While this is happening, Enlil stands over Evelyn. “Wait right here. I can fix this, I promise.”

She teleports back to the others at Kigai’s camp, wasting no time before speaking again. “Zumeg was killed. Can Shtelru bring her back?”

Kigai nods. “As long as she hasn’t been brought back before, yes.”

“Okay.” She looks up at the dragon once more. “Shtelru, I have another wish!”

Shtelru’s thunderous voice responds, “Speak it now, before I run out of patience.”

“I wish for the lemurian Zumeg to be brought back to life!”

Once again, the dragon’s eyes glow brightly as he grants the wish. “It is done.”

Miraculously, thanks to Shtelru, Zumeg’s eyes flutter open as Evelyn cries over her. She sits up, surprising Evelyn in the best way. Evelyn hugs her tightly. “Oh, honey, I thought you were gone…!”

Zumeg rubs her head. “What happened…? Where’s--”

She looks up to see Patoto kicking the absolute shit out of Oro. The god is bleeding profusely, evidently having been taking an intense beating from the lemurian. Patoto performs an overhead kick and sends Oro flying down to the ground, where he crashes and slides along the dirt. When he stops, he weakly looks up to see Enlil staring down at him in disappointment. Patoto lands a few feet behind them as Enlil nods to him. “I’ll take him from here Patoto. Thank you.”

Patoto doesn’t seem to be quite finished with him yet, still clearly angry, but the voice of his mother stops him from stepping forward.

“Patoto!”

He turns to see Zumeg running towards him, and the anger in his expression completely disappears into relief. “Mom?”

The two hug tightly as Patoto powers down to his base form once again. As this happens, Enlil lifts Oro up over her shoulder and turns to everyone, who is gathering around Zumeg and Patoto.

“I’m sorry to have brought you all so much trouble,” she assures solemnly. “He won’t be back to do it again after this; I promise.”

The two gods disappear, leaving the group to stand there. Patoto nuzzles his mother lovingly, clearly happy to have her back and safe. Evelyn also seems pleased with the outcome of all this. Kinpa is the only one whose mind seems to be elsewhere.

In Which I Attempt to Wreak Havoc Upon Panharmonium's Heart. Or Something.

Because I am an awesome friend, clearly, and possibly making people sad/verklempt is definitely an excellent way to (belatedly 😔 but I did start before the 15th!) celebrate Kakashi's birthday, right? ;)

I will admit up front that this is nowhere near as deftly structured and compiled as your Kakashi fanmix, @panharmonium, but that is precisely why I'm not even going to try to organize all these songs into individual playlists. Yet. Plus, I have a tendency to over-explain so this way I can better expound on why certain songs remind me of certain characters. Sorry that I sorta went a little... overboard?

What I'm Looking For - Brendan Benson | Kakashi → I may be a little biased with this one because it fits SO many of my favorite characters so well, somehow, but there's just something about the upbeat/tongue-in-cheek musical cues/delivery of lines such as 'I visit hell on a daily basis, and I see the sadness in all your faces' that just feels so Kakashi to me.

Happy Ending - MIKA | Kakashi → This is presumably a breakup song, but I enjoy it so much more in a non-romantic context (and the song itself isn't really boxed in with overtly romantic framing, so I appreciate that!). Anyway, some very important instructions IMO for listening to this with Kakashi in mind: everything before the bridge is about Kakashi up through his ANBU years, but when you get to the 'little bit of love' refrain, picture Kakashi meeting Tenzo, and then becoming Team 7's sensei, opening back up to Gai, adopting all the other leaf genin, assimilating Sai and Yamato into Team 7, and it keeps building with Kakashi gaining more and more loved ones to fill the hole in his heart, and then cry tears of joy with me! Just my personal suggestion. :D

Light - Sleeping At Last | Kakashi & Team 7 (/all his kids)

with every heartbeat I have left I will defend your every breath

→ I've seen this song used for ship vids and I'm all ????? about that because this is clearly a song about the love you have for your child! But I suppose if one of my favorite pastimes is aggressively re-interpreting love songs in non-romantic ways, I can't begrudge the opposite process... too much, lol.

Heroes - MIKA | Team Minato

→ I don't know how I keep collecting fictional relationships that work so well for this song, but literally every single line of this song hits so hard for these two?? Will never recover from this. (Also, I usually disregard when 'my love' pops up in the last line of the chorus, as the mood dictates. :) It's pretty incidental as is IMO.)

→ Okay, this is a very odd choice given that it's actually the theme song for a different show about the Italian renaissance (if you happen to see this, Mirjam, don't hate me!), but this could be IT! The "those who break the rules are scum, but those who would abandon their friends are worse than scum" anthem that's all about building a better world based on these principles! I really hope our sharing-a-brain talent translates to listening to this song in this way because I am feeling SOME KIND of way about this!

Putting The Dog To Sleep - The Antlers | Kakashi & Sasuke → Okay, on one hand, this song is One Big Oof. But I do like the (potentially odd) way I've conceptualized it for Kakashi & Sasuke? Like, the first half is Kakashi going through all the tragedies in his life and getting lost in ANBU, but then in the second half it transitions to him wanting to prevent Sasuke from having to be as alone as Kakashi once was and they can face life together? It makes me emotional!

The World You Want - Switchfoot | Ensemble → If I were to make a fanvid set to this song, I would definitely keep a broad focus, but I can't deny that the lines 'you start to look like what you believe, you float through time like a stream, if the waters of time are made up by you and I, I could change the world for you, you change it for me' FOR SURE has strong Obito & Kakashi/Kakashi & Tenzo vibes.

Red Eyes - Switchfoot | Ensemble, but definitely many dashes of Uchihas 😄 → I would like to thank Masashi Kishimoto for creating a world where red eyes are a Thing of Importance so I can one day make a fanvid using this song in not just the tired or teary bloodshot-red eyes way, but in a very literal sense too.

TAKE MY FIRE - Switchfoot | The Will of Fire → 'Cause I think I'm sooooo clever. 😄

Above The Clouds Of Pompeii - Bear's Den | various parent & child relationships → This obviously derives from the not-caring-about-your-female-characters problem, but it always gets me that all the single parents in the Naruto universe are almost invariably the fathers! I guess sometimes you can safely guess that the mothers are still alive/exist, but either way we hardly ever get to see them. :/ The one exception I can think of right now is Kurenai, but maybe I'm forgetting another conspicuous single mother. Anyway, I don't know if this helps or hinders more a potential Naruto fanvid for this song, but regardless, it still gives me feelings?

Who We Are - Switchfoot | Ensemble → It just makes me inordinately happy that the chorus for this song starts with 'who we are (in the fever of our youth)', you know? :D

Brother - Kodaline | all the friendships we can stuff in here and then some → Quite a well known song I'm pretty sure, but I love how many dynamics one could showcase in a potential fanvid of this. And, not gonna lie, 'oh brother, we go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos' deserves to be used in some sort of Tenzo 'n' Kakashi or Team Ro fan creation!

Shake It Out - Florence + The Machine | Kakashi & Obito → I'm not sure whether I would have realized how well this works for Kakashi & Obito on my own, funnily enough, but then I found this fanvid of it (containing only scenes you've seen naturally!) and it hit me like a ton of bricks. It's so well done!

I'm more of a fantasy than sci-fi person, but consider my interest piqued. Why should I watch farscape?

Okay, the thing is, every Farscape fan’s pitch on Why You, Yes You, Should Watch Farscape ends up sounding very similar, and that’s because Farscape is a black hole that sucks you in and does things to your brain, and after you’ve watched it you are never, ever the same, which incidentally is basically the plot of Farscape.

I would summarize the basic plot for you, but that’s work, and luckily, the show’s credits sequence includes a handy summary that I will provide instead of doing that work: “My name is John Crichton, an astronaut. A radiation wave hit, and I got shot through a wormhole. Now I’m lost in some distant part of the universe on a ship, a living ship, full of strange alien life forms. Help me. Listen, please. Is there anybody out there who can hear me? I’m being hunted by an insane military commander. Doing everything I can. I’m just looking for a way home.“

So let me break down that monologue into its component reasons you should watch Farscape.

1) Some of the strange alien life forms are Muppets.

Farscape a co-production with the Jim Henson Company, and while there are many aliens played by humans in make-up, there are also a considerable number (including two of the regular crew) who are Muppets. By which I do not mean Kermit. I mean really gorgeous, elaborate works of art.

Also, even a lot of the humans-in-makeup aliens just look cool, and incredibly weird. Here’s an alien who appears in a single episode of season 1:

Not that there aren’t, you know, occasional Star Trek-style “these guys are just humans with weird hair,” or whatever, but in general, the aliens on Farscape look really alien. And that’s more than an aesthetic choice; it’s Farscape’s driving narrative principle. The aliens look alien, they act alien, they have alien values.

You know how a lot of sci-fi shows will have a stand-in for “fuck,” like Battlestar Galactica has “frak”? Well, Farscape has “frell.” And also “dren.” And yotz, hezmana, mivonks, loomas, tralk, snurch, eema, drannit, dench, biznak, arn, drad, fahrbot, narl. Some of those are swear words, but some of them are just words, never explicitly translated, that the alien characters will pepper into their speech, because, well, why should translator microbes be able to completely translate all the nuances of an alien culture? You’ll pick it up from context. One time, in passing, a character mentions that he’s familiar with the concept of suicide, but there’s no word for it in his language. I cannot emphasize to you enough how fleeting this moment is; the episode is not about suicide, we’re not having a great exchange of cultural ideas—at the time, the characters are running down a corridor in a crisis, as they are about 70 percent of the time—it’s just that the subject got brought up, and this character needed to talk around the fact that he literally didn’t have a word, in that moment. Things like that happen all the time, on Farscape.

Because more than anything else, Farscape is a show about culture shock. John Crichton is this straight, white Southern guy, at the top of his game—he’s an astronaut! he’s incredibly high status!—and then he ends up on the other side of the galaxy, where none of his cultural markers of privilege hold any meaning, where he doesn’t know the rules, where he literally can’t even open the doors. And he has to unlearn the idea that humanity is central, that he is the norm.

2) John Crichton, an astronaut, is pretty great.

A show that’s about a straight white guy with high status having to learn that he’s not the center of the universe could easily be centered around a really insufferable person, but one of the subtle things that makes Farscape so wonderful is that Crichton is, for the most part, pretty excellent. He has a lot of presumptions to unlearn because almost anyone in his cultural position would, but he’s also just a stand-up guy: compassionate, intelligent, open-minded, decent, forgiving, brave, hopeful.

And the galaxy tries to kick a whole lot of that out of him. It doesn’t succeed, mostly, but if Farscape is about anything other than culture shock, it’s about the lasting effects of trauma. How you can go through a wormhole one person, and experience things that turn you into someone you don’t recognize.

That’s kind of grim-sounding, but ultimately, what I’m trying to say is that Farscape is almost fanatically devoted to character work. Crichton is not the only character who sounds like he should be one thing and ends up being another. All of the characters—all of them, all of them, even the annoying ones—are complicated wonders. And you don’t have to wonder whether the events of the episode you’re watching are going to matter. They will. Everything that happens to the characters leaves a mark. Everything leaves them forever changed. Whether it’s mentioned explicitly or not—and often enough, it’s not explicit—the characters remember what has happened to them.

3) The living ship houses a lot of excellent women, among them the ship itself.

Ah, the women of Farscape, thou art the loves of my fucking life.

There’s Aeryn Sun, former Peacekeeper (that’s the military that the “insane military commander” hails from) now fugitive, currently learning the meaning of the word “compassion” (literally). She will break your fingers and also your heart. John/Aeryn is the main canon romantic ship.

There’s Pa’u Zhoto Zhaan, a priestess of the ninth level, current pacifist, former anarchist. Sorry, leading anarchist. She orgasms in bright light! (Oh my god, Farscape.)

There’s Chiana, my fucking bestie, a teenage(ish? ages in Farscape are weird) fugitive on the run from a repressive authoritarian state. Chiana is like a seductress con artist grifter thief who mostly just wants to survive so that she can have fun, damn it. Characters on Farscape do not really discuss sexualities (sex, yes, sexualities, no) and it would be fair to say that several of them do not fall along human sexuality lines generally, but I’m gonna go ahead and say that Chiana is canonically not straight.

Then there’s Moya, the ship herself, and it’s hard to get a straight read on Moya’s personality, since she mostly can’t speak. But she definitely has opinions, and things and people she cares about. And she moves the plot, though that gets into spoiler territory.

Past first season, further excellent women show up: Jool (controversial, but I like her), Sikozu (I once saw a Tumblr meme where someone had marked down that Sikozu would lose her shit when someone pronounced “gif” wrong, and that’s absolutely correct, and it’s why I love her), and Noranti (who is incredibly weird, and incredibly hard to summarize, but man, you gotta love her willingness to just show up and do her thing). Plus, there’s a recurring female villain, Grayza, who I could write probably multiple essays about. (I don’t know how you will feel about Grayza, as not everyone loves her, but I think she’s fucking fascinating, especially because she’s not actually the only recurring female villain. We also get Ahkna!)

(Side note: I should mention, here, that the cast of Farscape is really, really white. There is one cast member of color, Lani Tupu, but he pretty much represents the entirety of even, like, incidental diversity in casting for the series.)

Anyway, Farscape is full of awesome women, and also awesome and unexpected men, and it really enjoys playing with audience expectations of gender roles, generally. Literal entire books have been written about the way that Farscape fucks around with sex, sexuality, and gender. It’s a little weird because it was the late 90s/early 2000s, and sometimes that does come through, but Farscape’s guiding principle was always to try not to present American culture of the time as the norm, so like. It is not.

(An aside on Farscape and sex: Literally every character on Farscape has sexual tension with every other character. If you are a shipper, this is a Good Show, because no matter who you ship, there will not only be subtext, you will get a Moment of some kind. Multiple characters kiss the Muppet. Farscape is dedicated to getting into the nitty-gritty of the galaxy—I like to think of it as showing the guts of the universe—so a lot of the show is kind of squishy. They live on a biomechanoid ship, instead of androids there are “bioloids,” there’s a lot of focus on strange alien biologies, and lots of weird glowing fluids and things. I think the sex thing is kind of part and parcel of the larger biology focus: Farscape is really fascinated with how we all eat and evolve and live and die and, well, fuck. Which is in turn, kind of part of its focus on making everything really alien.)

4) Other stuff you should know.

Farscape as a whole is excellent, but it was kind of the product of creative anarchy—an Australian/American coproduction (oh yeah, everyone except Crichton speaks with an Australian accent) that was also partnered with the Henson company, whose showrunners were based in America but whose actual production all took place in Australia, and who was just constantly trying new things. So individual episodes can vary wildly in quality. It really takes off in the back half of season one, but no season is without a few off episodes.

It is extraordinarily funny, and I really think I haven’t stressed that enough. It’s one of the shows I want to quote the most in my daily life, but almost all of its humor is really context-dependent, and if you just wander around going, “Hey Stark? What’s black and white, and black and white, and black and white?” people look at you really funny.

It’s very conversant with pop culture generally (although obviously sci-fi specifically, and Star Trek most specifically of all) and really enjoys deconstructing tropes, often to the effect of, “Well, Crichton really does not know what to do here, does he?” but sometimes just to be interesting.

There are also a lot of themes about science, and its uses and misuses.

The whole thing is fucking epic, and if you get invested at all, will take you on an emotional ride.

This show is weird. I know that that’s probably come across by now, but I think it’s worth reiterating as its own point: Farscape is so weird. Like, proudly, unabashedly, trying its hardest, weird. An amazing kind of weird.

If you’re into fantasy, you should know that there’s a recurring villain who’s just a wizard. Like, they don’t bother to explain it any more than that, he’s just a fucking wizard.

In summary: You should watch Farscape because it is a weird, wild, emotional, epic romance/drama/action/allegory full of Muppets and leather and one-liners and emotional gut punches and love, and if you let it, it will worm its way into you and never let go, which, now that I think of it, is another Farscape plot.

first, i’d like to say happy birthday! may all your dreams come true <3 i really hate myself for being so late into this amazing fandom but also really happy that you’re still writing about the game, it was so hard to find one who is still active so thank you so much for doing the amazing work ily for that T^T but aside from that, i wanna join your game hehe but i don’t want to describe myself irl so i just describe myself that i imagined when i played the game if that’s okay to you (also sorry for the long ass paragraph, i got carried away) :D

my character has short hair, i would describe it as a short wolf cut style, and her hair color is black. her clothing style is more into masculine but when she wears it, it still looks feminine to her no matter what? i’m sorry i’m really bad at explaining stuff. her usual type of outfit is a baggy t-shirt with shorts. her choice of outfit and her personality are so much different since she’s actually a soft spoken girl. i imagined her having 6 brothers and only 1 sister so of course, she will be more likely to follow her brother's behaviour but more into the soft spoken side. she’s also the youngest and very polite to her siblings since her culture is VERY strict about respecting people who are older than them even if it's only a one year gap. her star sign is gemini (but oh boy she sure doesn’t act like one)

for hobbies, she enjoys baking! cookies, cake and bread? she loves them so much. but she only does them when she’s in the mood, if you’re asking her when she isn’t in her baking mood, sorry she’ll reject you. another thing that she likes to do is go for a jog every evening, she is not a morning person nor a night person. she doesn’t enjoy waking up early and she doesn’t like it when she needs to stay up late (even if it’s only 11PM)

she likes to eat, and the food that she enjoys the most without feeling bored even if she needs to eat them every single day is a chicken, it doesn’t matter if it’s fried or seasoned, she enjoys every one of them. for dislikes, she just hates doing chores. it’s funny for me because i think almost all of the route in the game is the mc being a servant for the boys.

she had never been in a relationship so she’s quite confused with the thoughts of having someone important in her life. i think one of her love languages would definitely be spending time with her loves one, like going on a cute picnic (she doesn’t like loud places like going to a concert or shit because what’s the point of going on a date when all you can hear is people screaming) she would definitely enjoy having a deep conversation with her partner, and talking about the future. she doesn’t enjoy skinship that much, it’s because she’s not used to someone casually cuddling or clinging to her. so for skinship, maybe just holding hands or a quick hug! (also because this bitch got embarrassed so quickly and she got really flustered when it comes to pda or something)

❧ noel's a sagittarius, and sags are pretty compatible with geminis; both signs are mutable which means there's a lot of flexibility with the two of you so y'all's relationship should get along fine without major quarrels. sag is a fire sign and gemini is an air sign which is great bc an air and fire relationship is heavy in support :)

❧ we already know noel loves food, and i feel like he'd have a pretty big sweet tooth as well, so he loves it when you bake. he's your taste tester for everything you make and he'll eat all of the finished product no matter how you think it comes out. you may have to end up hiding what you make from him if you intend on sharing it with others. he won't openly gorge out on your foods like a glutton, but he will eat all of what's in front of him, and if he happens to like it a lot, he'll sneak more of it later on lol. he won't openly ask you to make things for him, his requests are masked as suggestions like "you should make those cookies again" or "i think mikael would like that pie for his next gala"

❧ he's pretty indifferent about you going for jogs every evening, it's just something you like to do and he supports that. if you want him to join you or if you mention you'll be jogging somewhere away from the castle he'll come with you without hesitation. he's got excellent stamina and can keep up with you no problem, although the way he never seems to break a sweat irks you sometimes lmao

❧ he's a very easy sleeper in that he can fall asleep anytime anywhere no problem and his internal clock wakes him up when he needs to get up, it's amazing and i'm jealous. so he adapts to your sleeping schedule easily, like if falling asleep together is something you like then he'll come to bed with you even if it's earlier than he's used to. he does tend to wake up early no matter what, but if he wakes up before you he'll spend that extra time making sure the end of your sleep is comfortable, and he also takes time to memorize the details of your face and admire how peaceful and sweet you look. if he has something to do in the morning that requires his immediate attention, he'll get up and ready as quickly and quietly as possible so as not to disturb you, and before he leaves he'll write a quick note explaining where he is and he'll carefully brush the hair away from your face, gently caressing your cheek

❧ like i said, mans loves his food, and he'll eat whatever you make for him, so he'll have no complaints whatsoever if you make chicken for a week straight. in fact he thinks it's amazing that you can prepare the meat in so many different ways. he has a hard time picking a favorite, but i think he'd like grilled chicken the best, kinda like how cracker barrel makes their grilled chicken, it's seasoned just enough and it's so juicy and kinda marinated in a little sauce

❧ he's not much of a fan of doing chores either, i mean his room is pretty messy after all, but y'all also realize that it's something that has to be done, so i could see the two of you dividing the chores into little bits throughout the week or even the month so it's less to deal with. you'll assign each other with tasks to do, whether it's changing the sheets or gathering all the trash to be thrown out, whatever it is you decide to do it's just a little system that the two of you created to make doing boring chores more bearable

❧ noel's never had someone to be this close with either, and while this can make things tricky, i think it would be good for the two of you to figure those new feelings out together, like the cute first love trope. since it's all new for him as well, and since he struggles with emotions in general, he won't be as quick to jump into the physical contact part of relationships. he'll focus primarily on learning more about you and navigating how relationships work

❧ he'd probably turn to ricardo for date ideas before promptly deciding that's a horrible idea and turning to ask mikael who is much more lowkey and suggests some pretty good date options. common dates for the two of you would be trying new recipes, taking walks, going into town to browse little shops and eat at cute cafes, and spending an afternoon outside for a picnic and to watch the sunset

❧ noel needs a lot of practice figuring out his feelings and how to voice his thoughts so having someone that likes to have deep conversations is good practice for him; it'll get him to get used to voicing his opinions and thinking more abstractly about the future and what if scenarios. he finds it a bit scary at first but eventually he finds comfort in the fact that he can be vulnerable around you like this, just being in each others' presence and sharing whatever comes to mind

❧ again, physical touch isn't really one of his love languages. like sure, it's nice, but he doesn't crave it, so you don't have to worry about him getting too clingy or getting you all flustered with pda. it'd probably take him super long for him to even hold your hand, and anything he decides to initiate he'll save for when it's only the two of you; he wouldn't try any physical contact around anyone else until much, much later in y'all's relationship

Hello! I have an art question, if you don't mind talking about art stuff! I'm trying to get better at drawing, but having a really hard time with figuring out how to draw people. I feel like I've made progress with things like animals, objects, etc but I just can't get my drawings of people to improve! You draw people (and everything else tbh!!) so beautifully, do you mind if I ask how you learned to draw them? Or if you have any advice? Thank you for posting your art here, you're such a big inspiration and I love seeing your posts when they come across my feed! 💗

I love talking about art stuff!!! ♡ firstly, thank you aww ;×;) !! I'm so flattered, its really so sweet of you to say that!!

(( oh my god once again I've written so much I am so sorry! I put a tldr at the end, I couldn't quite go into much detail about specifics because im not quite sure what specifically you would like to improve, but I did try to cover some bases but please don't be afraid to message me with any more info or questions!!! ))

I'm a bit of the opposite where I can only draw people and struggle making progress with everything else lol, I admire you a little bit!! 🤭

People can be hard to capture, because we naturally (subconsciously?) examine them trying to determine things like emotion and im not quite sure how to put it but... health? For most people, its easy to see if someone is tired or sick at a glance. This comes into play when drawing people because we are wired to immediately analyze everything about them and pick up things that are wrong (think of uncanny valley type stuff!)

I often think about something bob Ross said, I dont have the time to hunt it down but what he said was basically along the lines of; he prefers painting scenery, because when we see a scenic painting its easier to think "this looks like somewhere ive been!" And its more believable. Meanwhile, its hard to capture the exact likeness of someone. If its a little off, we feel it looks "bad". I may have changed or added some points in there, but I think that was the general idea? 🤔 thats not to say scenic paint is easy in any way, its just about how we view it.

My point in this is, the key to drawing people is to create a believable figure. And how to achieve this depends on the style you draw them in ! I can only offer advice for stylized drawings (i struggle to draw hyper realistic people, and I also just don't enjoy it? Lol) but im assuming that since you like my art you're okay with that? ^^

In regards to how I learned to draw, well.. ive been doing it since I can remember ^^; I grew up watching anime which definitely altered my style and interests, and when i was in high-school I transitioned from an "anime adjacent " style, to a generalized "stylized" look, and now I strictly use photo reference which has helped make my style less cartoony but it still shares cartoon elements I feel? For a long time I drew without using references at all which im sure also contributed to how I draw things now. I havent had a chance to take art classes, so I've learned mostly by self study. Practicing drawing from reference, looking up tips and tricks youtube videos, watching other artists work and looking closely at their pieces to try and see how they achieve certain looks. Eventually it all adds up! How i draw people is a reflection of like 20 years of this!!

My biggest regret is not taking art "seriously" and going nearly all of those 20 not properly studying. This is my biggest piece of advice :^( unfortunately, im still learning how to do this myself, I think "studying" is a learned skill and hard to do without instruction. But if you can draw animals and objects I think you probably know a little bit on how to. So then looking a bit deeper into "improving", what about your drawings do you feel are lacking?

Circling back to my earlier paragraphs, how you want to improve depends on what sort of style you are going for and the way you want to portray or capture people. Portraits rely on technical skill i think. I'm not sure i could offer valuable advice here..

Comics, manga, and graphic novels sole intention is to tell a story through drawings. They don't give metaphors (usually!! Sometimes they do but not in the context im trying to explain) and/or tell us how characters are feeling, they show us! This is why the art styles of them often have exaggerated features, and simplified features. The eyes tend to have more detail because we read eyes for emotion, mouths are exaggerated because they are key to reading emotion (most importantly so I think! Watch: 🙂☹ the only difference is the mouth, but we can tell they feel totally different emotions.) Noses in comparison are usually more simplified as they, out of all features of the human face, are the least expressive.

If you want to improve your drawings of people so that they are more expressive and relatable, I would try to analyze how your face changes with emotion and perhaps practice with one of those emotion chart meme templates!

Illustration work is similar, but I feel the face doesn't actually matter as much. If you look at full bodied illustrations of people and zoom in on the face, you'll find that they are sometimes quite simplified! When viewing a full bodied person we generally take in the body's language first. It would take me a long time for me to explain in detail on this post (though I would love to talk about body language in illustration please let me know of you would like me to... also the body language of two figures.. but ill spare you for now ♡) I would recommend gesture drawing and timed studies. I improved drawing so much when I started doing this (I use the site quickposes a lot, set a high timer and draw!!) If drawing the face is hard for you and you can't seem to get anywhere, try focusing on the body for a little bit! Especially how bodies look when bending and twisting.. which might sound random, but I think it helps get a better understanding on how proportions can change with pose.

I wrote so much and I really didn't mean to. Its always hard to answer questions like this without much information like what your goal is and what look you want to achieve. I hope I didnt scare you away with my horrible novel of an answer but if you'd like to give more detail or ask any more questions please I welcome you to!! I love talking about art and I love love love hearing about other peoples art ;^; ♡

Tldr; when trying to improve drawing people it may not be as simple as working on technical skill, its important to keep in mind purpose, emotion, body language, and art style

I'm pretty sure my computer would burn and die if I tried to play the Sims 4 but tell me anyway which packs are the best to buy!

Sims 4 is actually easier to run than Sims 3! Especially if you only have a few packs and no mods installed! They designed it for longevity, and it initially came out in 2014. There’s even a laptop mode designed specifically for people with lower end systems.

And, fun fact, you can try it for free! Origin allows a free trial for the Sims 4, so if you’re worried it won’t run or you’re worried you won’t like it you can always download the trial and test it out! That’s actually how I got into the game.

Though I will note before getting started: Some of the newer packs require a 64 bit operating system or a Metal-supported Mac system. Anything released after October 2019 cannot be played on a 32 bit/non-metal system.

Though at the moment that basically just excludes you from the University pack.

Also note! Different people like different stuff out of their Sims game, so if it sounds interesting don’t worry if I don’t rate it highly. I tend to play with a more realistic slant, and for items I tend to like more modern aesthetics when it comes to clothes and items. With that in mind, let’s get to the list! I’ve divided them up by pack type (Expansion, Game, or Stuff).

Expansion Packs:

1) Seasons: Must Have

I will always, always, always shill for the seasons EP of any Sims game. Frankly, I am of the opinion that it should just be base game, but whatever. It adds dynamic weather and, well, seasons which are two things that will affect your game no matter how you choose to play.

Sims 4 is rather unique from previous sim games in that it adds a calendar system and holidays. Not only can you celebrate holidays, you can actually create your own and freely edit or move them around! I’m not kidding, you can get pretty wacky. Like, worshiping garden gnomes and punching each other in the face wacky. Or you can be a loser like me, make every single Three Houses character, and make them all have a lovely Christmas together because they deserve it :x

2) City Living: Good to Have

This one is down to personal taste. I love the city aesthetic, and the apartments are pretty fun to play around with. City Living also adds some interesting festival activities and four unique city districts. Another boon, if this is something you’re interested in, is cultural diversity! Sims 4 has been making a concentrated effort to include more diversity in their games, and a lot of outfits and objects in this pack reflect that!

All of the festivals and events will still occur regardless of if you live in the city or not, so you don’t have to miss out on all of the features even if you don’t choose to use the apartments 100% of the time. Though the bulk of the new game-play really is in the city neighborhood.

3) Discover University: Good to Have (Note: This is one of those 64 bit packs)

I admittedly haven’t played around with this one extensively since it just came out, but I think it’s great fun! I put Sim Sylvain, Sim Felix, Sim Dimitri, and Sim Dedue through college and it was a struggle (in the best of ways). Dorm life, subsisting exclusively on Ramen, and staying up until 2 am working on that term paper that’s due tomorrow... What’s not to love? I’m always a big fan of University packs because, again, I like to play pretty realistically. With mods I managed to get them into a collective $80,000 of college debt and can you tell that I’m an American yet?

Plus, this one added the teaching, law, and engineering professions to the game and I will never not enjoy making Dimitri a psychology professor for the irony.

University isn’t really necessary to your sims’ lives, but it certainly does help them out along the way. You can choose to ignore it if you want to, but I don’t really see myself doing that when I play, which means this pack will get a lot of use from me personally.

4) Cats and Dogs: Good to Have

If you’re really into the whole rustic aesthetic then this is definitely the pack for you. The town they added is very cute and one of my more well used towns (currently the residence of all of my Blue Lions Sims). If you want your Felix sim to have 6 cats then this is also the pack for you, because you can’t have pets otherwise.

You can also create your own veterinary clinic, which is a feature I’ve barely touched but I’m sure someone will get a kick out of! It’s similar to running a business or owning a restaurant from some similar packs.

God, and you can do some crazy fuckin things to these pets. You can basically cross breed to your heart’s content, so you can get some weird ass combinations. There’s also a paint tool, so you can have dogs with rainbow fur and cats with green paws. Oh and you can have pet foxes and raccoons, but they basically function as dogs and cats respectively.

All in all a fun pack, even if I don’t use all of its content 100% of the time.

5) Get to Work: It’s Alright

Here’s where I start getting a little lukewarm. Get to Work added three active careers (Doctor, Scientist, and Detective) as well as the ability to own and run your own retail store. And these features are fun! ... If you use them.

With the way the Sims 4 is built, having a Sim in an active career and a Sim family with more than one or two sims can be difficult to manage. You can only load one lot at a time, so if you follow your sim to work then you can’t play your sims at home and vice versa, you have to load through every time you switch. There are no “home businesses” either, so your sim either has to live “off lot” and travel (aka you have to sit through a loading screen) tp the retail store every time you do business, or you build a living space on the retail lot and try to wrangle the game into working. This means you have to manually bring your sims “home” to the store every day, and it causes some issues.

Personally, I don’t like being minorly inconvenienced, so after the novelty wore off I barely touched these features again. Most of the CAS and Build/Buy items are career or retail focused too, so I can’t say it has any must have items. I’m putting it at #5 though because I know many people love these features and happily play around the limitations.

6) Get Famous: It’s Alright

I’ll admit, I had a lot of fun with this pack when it first came out! It adds a lot of really cool stuff, like the reputation system, fame, and what is essentially a YouTuber career. There’s also another one of those active careers (actor/actress) if that’s your thing.

Fame also works in a very interesting way in this pack, too. There are “perks” and “quirks”, so your sim can have their own celebrity brand and hordes of followers, but have extremely volatile emotions or a fear of being touched. Kind of an interesting reward/drawback system that hasn’t been present in previous sim games.

Personally though, this pack doesn’t have much longevity to me. Just like Get to Work it was fun for a little while, but I don’t particularly like playing “famous” sims so many of the pack’s features go unused. The town, Del Sol Valley, is pretty underwhelming with only a handful of lots, and kind of a sunny desert-y aesthetic. Which doesn’t pair well if you like the rain and snow from Seasons like I do.

7) Island Living: It’s Alright

This pack is great if you love island-aesthetic items and clothes, tropical islands, and/or mermaids. Personally? I love all three of those things. I’ve been using quite a few of the outfits and objects and roleplaying them as “Duscur themed” for my Dimidue family. I mean, we have no idea what Duscur actually looked like, but the items are distinct enough from most of the typical items in the game that it kind of works?

Anyways, the reason this is so low is because there’s just not much to do in this pack. Mermaids and swimming and that’s basically it. There’s only one new career (conservationist) and three part time careers (diving, fishing, and life-guarding, which I kind of thought were going to be full time careers when I bought the damn thing...)

I’ll talk about this later, but the mermaids are by far the least interesting altered life state/occult in the game. Vampires (and I believe witches) have skill trees of powers and drawbacks, similar to those celebrity perks and quirks I talked about before. Mermaids have nothing like that, so they get boring to play with rather quickly. Watching their tail flop out while they’re in the bath is kinda fun though NGL.

The town is really cool though. I love basically all the pre-built lots and I love the items, but again if you like snow this probably isn’t a world you’re going to be using much. That, and to use many of the new features (like boats and ocean swimming and building houses out over the water) you must be in this world.

8) Get Together: Skippable

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seriously used any of the features from this pack aside from the town. The build/buy is a lot of Tudor style stuff, which I don’t tend to use, and a lot of the clothing is weirdly ugly clubbing clothes.

The clubs are really the big feature of this pack. Similarly to the holidays from Seasons, you can create clubs of sims that will get together and do activities. Basically any action in the game can have a club associated with it (from cleaning to “woohoo”) and you can have club perks that make your club more powerful, and sometimes infamous!

My main issue: If you aren’t actively using this feature it doesn’t really do anything. It just kind of exists as an extra sim panel in the bottom right corner of your screen. And I didn’t use it. Like, at all. That said, I know a lot of people find it very fun! I’m just not sure it’s worth spending $20-$40 of your money on.

Game Packs

I’ll just say right off the bat, I’m not going to talk about Realm of Magic. It adds wizards and wacky magical hijinks, but I bought it at the same time as University and I haven’t gotten around to playing it much yet. I will say, they added a ton of really cool objects and outfits! Especially the rugs. God, the rugs are to die for.

1) Parenthood: Must Have

Two words: Teen Angst. This pack fleshes out a lot of the younger life states. It adds teaching moments, punishments, “character value” traits such as polite or irresponsible, curfews, volunteering, sibling rivalries, mood swings, phases, etc. You want your kid to come home dressed like a bear randomly one day? This is for you.

I admit, I find a lot of the younger life stages in this game boring to play without this pack. I don’t think I could ever go back to vanilla sims after having used it, I find it that essential to my play style. Keep in mind though, this pack will only give you good mileage if you play families with sims of all ages.

2) Dine Out: Good to Have

You can own and operate a restaurant, which functions similarly to the retail stores and vet clinics I mentioned before. However, if you don’t want to own one then you can still plop them down in your town and your sims can travel there for dinners and such.

It’s really good for role playing dates and family nights out and such, but if that’s not your thing and you don’t care about owning one then this is not the pack for you.

3) Vampires: Fun, if You’re Into It

I actually played around with Vampires a lot when the pack first came out, which was honestly just a result of my life circumstance at the time (I was taking a literature course about vampires so I had vamps on the brain).

The vampire skills and vampire banes are pretty fun to mess with, and you can create a lot of pretty unique bloodsuckers. I had a Leo and Takumi sim, and the former was extremely weak to the sun and the latter could walk around in it no problem. Made for some fun role playing.

My two criticisms:

Vampires live forever, which means you’ll eventually get bored of playing the same sims.

Vampires don’t really sleep. They only sleep to recover their vampiric energy, which is only expended through the use of powers. It does not deteriorate naturally, so your vampire could be awake 24/7 for several sim days. Thing is, that just leaves you with too much time to do stuff. They’ll max their skills pretty quickly and then what do you do? Nothing.

Oh, and if you’re in to gothic-style stuff this is a must have for you.

4 & 5) Jungle Adventure and Outdoor Retreat: They’re Alright

I’m putting these in the same slot because they basically serve the same function: Vacations. One involves diving into ruins and hacking your way through jungles, the other is camping, but they’re both basically sim-vacations.

This is another one of those pack types where either you use it or you don’t, and if you don’t it doesn’t really do anything for you. Most of the game packs are like that, actually. Personally, I don’t take my sims on sim vacations very often so I mostly keep these packs around for the items.

Though I will say Outdoor Retreat added a ton of plaid so if that’s your aesthetic then go for it.

6) Spa Day: Skippable

This one basically just allows you to place and build “spa lots” in the world. It added the wellness skill, which ties into the meditation and yoga activities. There’s also saunas and massage tables, but I have rarely if ever placed them in a home lot for personal use.

Another use it or don’t kind of thing. I don’t even have a spa lot placed on my current world, so that just goes to show you how much I use this pack.

Some of the items are cool. Unless you really like those I’d say pass.

7) Strangerville: Honestly It Just Doesn’t Make That Much Sense As a Sims Pack?

Strangerville basically added a story and quest line to the game. I hear it’s pretty fun, but I don’t really play Sims for stories and quests, I play it as a sandbox game. So although I have the pack I’ve never actually played the “story” of it. It’s really not the best Game Pack to get as an entry to the series since it’s such a departure from the typical sims experience.

The town is alright, but again another desert so forget it if you like rain and snow. Unless you really really want the military career or you like the outfits and objects then I wouldn’t personally recommend. Especially for newer players to the series.

Stuff Packs

Honestly there are waaaaaay too many of these for me to rank and I wouldn’t really describe any of them as “must haves”, so instead I’m just going to put down my five favorites. But it’s really up to you to look at the items and decide if it’s worth your $10. Each pack adds a new “game-play” feature, though they’re very small and can be lived without pretty easily.

1) Laundry Day Stuff

This entire pack was actually voted on and “created” by Sims players so that’s a huge plus! More rustic-style items, and the game-play feature here is, obviously, laundry. Since I like playing more realistically, adding another chore was actually worth the money for me lmao. Plus all of the clothes are cute and comfy looking!

The Sims Team also has an amazing sense of humor and named an entire set of the items “Wicker Whims” after the WickedWhims sex mod for the game. Which, honestly? When a dev interacts with players like that it’s always really endearing to me.

2) Movie Hangout Stuff

The aesthetic of this pack is Boho-chic for some reason, so if you like that this pack delivers! The new game-play feature is popcorn and watching movies which can be fun for roleplaying families.

3) Kids Room Stuff

Another one that’s only useful if you play families, but it did add a cute little trading card game for kids. They can collect cards and battle them, similar to Pokemon. Unfortunately, adults can’t play, but I’m sure there’s a mod out there for that somewhere. A lot of the items look really good too, and I use them all semi-frequently. Kids tend to get the short end of the stick when new packs come out, so getting a bunch of hair, outfits, and items for them fills a good niche.

4) Perfect Patio Stuff

Lots of outdoorsy type items, as the name implies. Wicker chairs and outdoor counter tops and the like. This bad boy also brought the return of hot tubs (which probably has the cutest woohoo animation in the game, just saying).

5) Moschino Stuff

The items have a mostly modern, sleek aesthetic, and it adds the freelance photographer career to the game (which is currently what Sim Sylvain is employed as). I basically recommend it on those merits, because the clothes it added are godawful ugly and I’m otherwise not a huge fan of brand-sponsored packs. They’re nothing really new for The Sims, but luxury brands with hideous overpriced clothes aren’t really my thing.

Some Other General Advice for Starting Out

I covered some of this stuff further up but I’ll repeat in case people just skimmed this really long post.

I will warn everyone stay away from “My First Pet Stuff”! You are basically required to own Cats and Dogs to make use of a good chunk of its items, so you might just be wasting your money.

You can get a trial of the game for free if you just want to test it out to see if you’ll like it or if your computer will run it.

Never buy a pack at full price. I’m not kidding when I say they have sales for this game every couple of months. Even if there isn’t a sale there is a bundle option, which is significantly cheaper than buying individual packs! Discover University was $40 at full price. I purchased a bundle with Discover University, Realm of Magic, and Moschino Stuff for $50. Had I bought them separately it would have ran me $70.

In fact sometimes they give the base game out for free! I know they did a promotion like this this past summer. Sims really makes their money from Expansion Packs, so one of their marketing strategies is to give the base game out for free to entice you to play. Even if it’s not free, it’s always steeply discounted during sales. I believe you can get it for $6 right now. I have 1000+ hours in this game, so six dollars is pretty cheap for that much entertainment.

Mods are amazing. Custom content is amazing. If anyone is curious I can create a list of the mods I use/Custom Content I use for my various Fire Emblem sims.
