“ mhm, “ he doesn’t infer with his usual enthusiasm over the prospect of multiple partners in various ways. genuinely and truly, he could care less if alix chose to sleep with other people or even how many there were. all he cared about was how safe she was, should she ever decide to do those things. at the same time, hale wasn’t going to keep prying. declining now didn’t mean she wouldn’t in the future. they’d only been in this a short time and, as much as he was hyperaware of her every move before this very moment, hale had to admit he didn’t know what her private life looked like. several partners, sure. those that had been public enough made him tuck his tail between his legs. one night stands and the like? no idea.
“ god, thank you, “ the biker’s demeanor brightens just a shade. on any other day he would’ve enjoyed the hall pass a lot more. which, actually, made him very curious about how much alix knew about the time he had spent in jax’s bed. namely, playing third wheel in a game of cuddles. whatever people said of the club’s prince, only very few understood how deep the man’s compassion could go. sure, it had to be for the right person but they were almost always members of the club. both he and opie had gone above and beyond to make him feel loved despite whatever comments some of the older members threw his way.
the joke is on the tip of his tongue, red told me about this new position i’m dying to try. normally he would, whether it was to be funny or attempt a wedge between them. now was the perfect time for him to be his true self. do everything in his power to scare her away for the next fourteen months so she didn’t have to worry about him on top of her family, several jobs, and whatever the club was going to ask of her in his absence. hale even parts his lips to do it. before belfast he absolutely would have.
but, holding her and staring into her eyes, he wonders where the fear went. maybe it was that first night they spent together. really spent together. he injured and barely able to sit on the bed. she, doting and undeterred by the violence he exhibited both on the outside and towards himself. day by day alix wiggled his way into his heart. unlike astoria who crashed through every wall like a wrecking ball; his soulmate in every possible way. alix’s love was like a seed that had been planted into a dark corner of his psyche. it grew as their time together watered it, soaking up whatever fear he had about letting her see the worst parts of him because, oddly enough, in trying to hide those things from her he had actually shown her those very things. time after time alix picked him up off the floor, gently dusted him off, offered a cup of tea, and loved him despite of his idiocy.
if they’d been together for years was it too early to ask for marriage?
hale had no idea where the lines for too far were because he’d never hit them before. was that it? going from telling her to sleep with other people to a hand in marriage? no. that one he could chew on when they got out.
closing his mouth, since he wasn’t going to say anything dumb, the guilt starts to creep in on his heart. that anxious thump throws off his body’s rhythm. as he kisses her cheek there’s the temptation to come clean about the time. alix deserved to know what was going to hit. putlova’s death was going to make sure they only spent half their allotted sentence behind bars. no one outside the club knew, though. even then, not even every member knew. would she hate him then? for not telling her? he’d already written his letter of confession while sitting in sambel.
as if she’d been reading his mind, those three words hit him like a train. his jaw drops. words he handed out like candy on halloween were now being presented by the one person (astoria not included). instead of shouting it back he lets it echo in his head over and over and over again like it was the only time he’d ever be blessed. amber eyes drift down towards the sunflower on his hand. hale got it tattooed quickly after realizing alix was the only one his heart would ever want so that, even when they were apart, he could hold her with him.
his head tilts side to side with a playful roll of his eyes. “ i’m questioning your sanity right now. you clearly bumped your head while i was gone to say such a thing, “ teeth bite down on his bottom lip. both eyes close, squeezing firmly shut like a child making a wish. “ i love you, too. “ then, hale holds his breath.
one eye pops open once he needs to take a breath. it searches the immediate vicinity as if the weight of her wasn’t confirmation enough the fairytale was still very much alive. “ of course it’s okay. why wouldn’t it be? “
So there is a limit to his needless self-sabotage, Alix notes with a surge of warmth and genuine pride in him. Hale's hands on her hips keep her grounded, and she considers the predicament they're in for several long moments in silence, letting her eyes flicker away from his with some reluctance as she thinks. Her hands, though, don't move from his face, her touch gentle and constant. She's considering it more because he wants her to than because she has any doubts in what she wants, or any hesitation―he deserves to know she's taking this seriously.
And how could she not? Less than a month with him and already she has to face a future, albeit a limited one, with him gone. She knows that the others will keep an eye out for him, knows they love him enough to protect him even from himself, but she allows herself the selfishness of wanting him with her for her sake. When her eyes settle on his again she smiles, and she leans forward, kisses him once more, before she speaks.
"You know, one of the girls told me about this. Some sort of prison clause." Her smile grows crooked and wry, though she's less amused than she looks. "I'll be okay. I've gone without sex before and it's not a big deal. And I know where to buy a good vibrator." She appreciates the concern, though it seems a bit silly to her―sex will be the least of her worries. "But if you want a hall pass to seduce Jax while you're in there, you can have it. Limited hall pass," she adds with a laugh, "but sure. Hell, if you do, I'll keep the redhead occupied. And hey, serves two purposes. Keeps us both busy. Gives you something to think about." She doesn't resent the hold Hale and Astrid have on each other, though she is curious what the fuss is about.
"For the record, though, I'm really not concerned about that. I love that you want to make this easier on me, but you're pretty much it for me. Nobody else is really appealing." It's a careful line to try to walk―to make herself clear in how she feels about him without unintentionally guilting him for things put in place well before she was a factor. But it's true: she's tried dating since she met him and time and time again, it's been more trouble than it was worth, not because she was opposed to dating but because none of them were him. The only thing she needs out of all of this is him okay.
She's trying not to think about it too much. It makes her feel too helpless, and that just makes her panicked when it gets out of control. The potential of years without him makes her head spin, and he's right. It's been very little time, comparatively speaking. For the years they've had dancing around it, it's been less than a month of calling this what it is, of being able to touch him without worrying she's crossing a line he isn't ready to cross. He's spent the night, but for all he's concerned about her needs being met during their upcoming separation, the sleepovers have been perfectly chaste.
(Well, maybe not perfectly, and maybe not chaste. Hard not to let her hands wander a bit when she's kissing him, which is often enough that she feels a bit like a smitten teenager. But the point stands: she's not having sex anyway.)
Alix hesitates for a moment, worries her lower lip between her teeth. How has it been, at once, so long together and barely any time at all? The time apart while he was in Belfast was uncomfortable; how is she going to manage years? (She just will. She knows. Still―she hates the thought of it.) "Hey," she says softly, even though it's way too soon, even though she logically knows that it could end terribly. She leans on her instinct instead, the instinct that says tell him, the instinct that says he needs to know, the instinct that says and it needs to be said, all the same. The words come out easier than she thought they might. "I love you." She lets it sit between them for a moment before she continues. "I want to be sure you know that. This isn't ideal―" Far from it. "―but it's true and it's been true. So whatever happens, we figure it out, but it's worth it." Her teeth clamp over her lip again, and she asks, voice very soft, as if afraid she'll frighten him, "Is that okay?"

Donz Co. (botgd 2)
The older man, now with a fresh color of nail paint on his fingers, swept into a room and dropped a platter of food in front of Farris. He touched his finger tips to one another. “Call me Dixie.”
“Your name...is Dixie?” Farris confirmed.
“No...” Dixie said with half peering eyes. “Did I stutter...in my request...?”
Farris lifted his hands. “Dixie Donz, got it. My mistake.”
Dixie nodded few times and began to pace in front of him. “You are a very lucky man Farris...that mage, or whatever it was that allows exceptional healing and fire magic, would have killed you for sure.”
Farris folded his arms. “Well what can I say? When evil abounds I must push back against it.”
Dixie’s mouth pushed in an odd direction, his eyes oddly cold for a man of such extravagant style. “Wow...alright then, back to reality.” He sat down across from him and motioned for him to eat. “Let’s get this out of the way. Your part in this is done.”
“Part in this?” Farris argued. “I’m here to save people and nothing more!”
“No, your were here to kill a villain in a black and white way in a grey world.” Dixie droned. “Oddly enough though Farris your statement is relevant. You are quite good at saving people. But very, very bad at killing bad guys. You work in the villages to prepare them was practical, straightforward, good even. But based on your encounters with the likes of Rhenco and Indigo-”
“What do you know of that man?” Farris asked, his fist suddenly clenching.
Dixie paused, a hand he had raised slowly lowering. “Just because I know of an enemy doesn’t mean I’m going to fight them. Time...opportunity...other people. Much more important in stopping a bad person than a sword and crashing through the window as you tend to do. There is good news though...I have a job offer.”
“Work for you?” Farris confirmed. “I barely know you. And based on how you flaunted your last name around, I’m not sure I want to work for you.”
“Most people don’t actually know there bosses super well so I’m sure you’ll live.” Dixie sighed. “Case in point Farris, you’re a good man, and a strong man, and a man that deserves a little more life out of life...which is exactly what you won’t get if you keep working solo...you will die Farris...and it’ll do the world no good.”
Farris worked his jaw, and then shook his head. “Work as what? Based on how you’re acting I don’t want to be in some death squad.”
“Hey don’t talk down on death squads, they’re what saved your ass last night.”
Farris’s hands slammed on the table as he stood up. “You followed me?!”
“With backup and dragons and poison and traps.” The words practically dropped out of his mouth. “And to prevent you from asking another dumb question, I planned on either killing Indigo’s flock when it showed or kidnap one and use it for collateral to prevent further attacks.”
“They were still within reason!” Farris yelled.
“No they weren’t. Four villages remember?” Dixie countered. “I wasn’t going to risk it. But you’re right, this might be better if they listen. In any event, I want you on staff as a relief effort specialist. Help prevent civilian deaths, lift rubble away from disaster sites, feed and water people, bolster defenses when attacks are inevitable.”
“That is...honorable work...but I feel as though it doesn’t treat the root problem...the foe that caused such tragedies.”
“I’ve heard of determined, and surprisingly strong characters taking on foes they should have never managed to defeat...but defeated them he did. You...are not like him...you need to use that strength to help people, not kill the enemy. And yes...there is a big difference.”
Farris folded his hands, and closed his eyes. “And what of Indigo?”
“He’s not your enemy anymore Farris. He can deal with me now...”
Farris’s various eyes flickered. “My...my family.”
“I can possibly get them work as well...we’ll see. Last I bothered to check your dad is doing just fine as a member of the rebellion, and your brother and mother a loner...”
Farris looked up. “Father and mother aren’t together? And Opie is alone somewhere?”
Dixie drew a thin breath. “Yeah you may want to go check up on everyone, whatever, do you want the job? I promise you’ll help more people, and I’ll be able to handle Indigo a lot better than you do.”
Farris hesitated, ran a hand through his hair, and then held the same hand out. “Okay...”

That day, Harper called in sick to work, one of the reasons she was up so early. Kacey was already set to do the same, but Harper convinced her to go to her shift at the bar and the garage. She wasn’t the one who was hurt and Kacey made her promise she’d go and see Gemma then stop by the clubhouse after her shift. Harper promised and even let Kacey take her truck to work. One Kacey left, Harper took a shower, carefully rewrapping the bandages on her hands, then made her way down the street to Gemma’s. Instead of knocking, all the adrenaline gone and her knuckles rather sore now, she rang the doorbell, causing a very confused Gemma to answer it.
“Oh, Harper. Hey, Baby. What are you doing here? I thought you worked the breakfast shift today?” Gemma asked, stepping aside to let Harper in. Harper made sure to keep her hair down and her jacket zipped up, not even taking off her sunglasses off until she stepped past Gemma with her back to her. Once Gemma shut the door, Harper tossed her curls over her shoulder and unzipped her jacket as she turned to Gemma, as she turned from the door. She began to say something else, but stopped when she saw the bruise on her cheek, fingermarks on her neck and her bloodshot eyes from barely being able to sleep all night, not to mention the ungodly hour at which she got up for the day. “Oh...My God, Harper. Sweetheart, what happened?”
Harper gave a soft laugh as Gemma came over to her, cupping her face, gently, and pushing her hair back to examine her neck, gingerly taking her bandaged hands. “Um...I kind of had a run in with mine and Kacey’s exes yesterday?” She said, looking up at Gemma from the floor she was fixed on. Gemma blinked and said, “Who? Sweetheart, we can have the guys here in a matter of minutes. They can-”
“No! Gemma. No. No, I, uh…” Fear shot through her at the mere thought of the club getting involved. Gemma blinked, confused, as Harper gathered herself before she became completely undone and said, “Um...Listen, Gem, I think we need to talk…”
~
Harper laid everything out to Gemma; Their past, their exes, their involvement with the Mayans, and the most crucial detail, the fact that Kacey beat the shit out of Alvarez’s niece, unknowingly, but still. While Harper spoke, not even bothering to touch her mug of coffee that Gemma gave her, Gemma watched the sister, intently. She made her snide comments about Sara, ‘Dumb bitch’, ‘Stupid slut’ to name a few. And when Harper was done, ending her story with how she told Jax and that Kacey had told Opie, a silence settled on the women, Harper scared for her life while Gemma seemed to be cool and calm. Finally, a small smirk spread across Gemma’s face as she took a sip of her coffee and cleared her throat.
“Harper, what happened in your past doesn’t mean we won’t protect you any less,” Gemma said. “I mean, it would have been nice to know what we were getting into, but none of that matters right now. What matters is keepin’ you girls safe and makin’ sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Harper sighed and nodded, running her hands through her hair before bracing her hands against her scalp and staring at the table as she leaned on her elbows. “If I just picked a shop in like...Lodi or something...It all would have been kept quiet and no one would have found out...Fuck, I’ve probably ruined our birthday now, too…” She said. Gemma tsk’d at her and smiled, putting a hand on her arm and giving it a small shake.
“Oh, come on, now. I’m sure nothing is ruined.” Gemma said, making Harper give a small smile. “When are your birthdays?”
Harper sat back and chuckled, scratching her head before looking at her and saying, “Um, next week. We’re actually Irish Twins. A year to the day.”
Gemma blinked and said, “Well...that explains a lot.”
Harper gave a soft snort and chuckled. She shrugged and grabbed her mug, finally taking a sip off the, now cold, coffee and said, “Well, I just wanted to get her something nice for her bike and now…” Harper sighed and leaned on the table, hand shoved into her hair as she cradled the coffee cup close to her. “Everything has turned to shit.”
Gemma chuckled and said, “No, it’s not shit.”
Gemma chuckled and stood, going to the kitchen to make another pot of coffee. Harper followed her as Gemma continued, “We can have a party still. We can have it at the clubhouse.” She turned to Harper, who had an eyebrow raised in surprise at the suggestion. Gemma continued, “That way, if the Mayans or your exes try to get payback, then we’ll all be in a safer place. The guys will be there and we can close up the garage for the day if we have to.”
“Oh, Gemma….You-you really don’t have to do that. That’s a little much-” Gemma cut her off with a wave of her hand and shook her head, saying, “It’s nothing, baby. Anything for my future daughter in law.”
Gemma chuckled while Harper was left to do so, rather awkwardly, not entirely sure how her and Jax’s future really looked. But she played it off, not that she had to play it up much, as Gemma whisked by her to grab a notepad and begin to scribble down the supplies they would need to throw hers and Kacey’s party.
~
It was around 2 o’clock that afternoon when Kacey finally finished with her first shift at the bar, not at all ready for her next shift over at the garage. She heaved a sigh as she plopped down on one of the couches across the room from the bar, completely exhausted from the previous nights' events and being up so early; wanting nothing more at that moment than to go home and take a nap. But she still had to wait for Harper.
“You alright?” Opie chuckled as he moved her legs so he could take a seat beside her, placing her legs across his lap as he began to massage one of her calves gently, earning a groan of approval from Kacey.
“Yeah…” She replied, sitting up a little against the arm of the couch. “Just tired...and I still have my shift over at the garage still.” Kacey groaned and rubbed a hand across her face. “I would kill for a nap right about now.”
“What times your next shift?” Opie asked curiously, ignoring the influx of noise as Tig and a few of the other guys rolled in to grab a beer; laughing about something.
“4…and only because I promised to cover for Juice’s dumb ass.” Kacey sighed with a small pout that made Opie chuckle softly as he leaned over to press a kiss against her lips. A low whistle came from the bar, making the pair break apart and turn.
“Oi, oi, oi! There’ll be none ‘o that!” Chibs called with a laugh.
“I was actually rather intrigued…” Tig joked with a coy smile. “Please, don’t stop on our account.” He motioned to the rest of the guys at the bar as Kacey rolled her eyes and sat back against the couch.
“In your fuckin’ dreams, Trager,” Opie called back as the room erupted in a brief fit of laughter before dying off as everyone returned to their beers as Opie turned his attention back to Kacey. “You still got an hour or so before your next shift…”
“And?” Kacey arched a brow at him curiously.
“And, I have a room…” Opie added in a low tone as he inched his hand up her thigh a little with a smirk. “I’m sure we can fit that nap in somewhere.” Kacey rolled her eyes at the implication and punched his arm, but otherwise left his hand where it sat on her upper thigh as she gave him a playful grin. A small squeal leaving her lips a few seconds later as Opie stood and snatched her off the couch as he started for the hall, the whole room suddenly filled with hoops and hollers.
“Watch out boys,” Piney said with a gruff laugh as he watched the pair pass by. “Looks like I’m about to get my first Grandkid!” The whole bar erupted in laughter again at the joke, as well as Opie yelling from down the hall at his dad before slamming the door to his room shut behind them. “Jesus, Pop!”
Piney let out a chuckle before going back to his beer and talking with the guys.
~
While Opie and Kacey cuddled and fell asleep, Opie having come out to ask his father to wake them for the start of Kacey’s shift, Harper showed up, quietly slipping into the clubhouse and going to the bar. She sat down and asked Half-Sack for a shot, or two. As she sat alone and quiet, not really wanting to get into any conversation about her scrapes with the guys, she looked up as Jax walked in from the garage, shrugging off his oil-stained work shirt. He stopped when he saw Harper sitting at the bar. She chewed her lip and looked down at the un-drunk shot sitting in front of her. Jax set the shirt aside, swapping it for his Kutte and went to her.
“Hey.” He said, softly, with a light smile. Harper glanced at him and gave a half smile.
“Hey.” She said, back. Jax slid his hand under her chin, turning her face toward him to check on her bruises. While she flinched, initially, at his movement, she allowed him to move her head and look, though her anxiety was growing rapidly as Jax was doing it around the guys. No one but the four of them and Gemma knew, and Harper had made sure to swear Gemma to secrecy until they were able to tell everyone all at once. Harper moved her chin from his grasp and turned away. Jax sighed and said, “How are you feeling?”
Harper gave a soft scoff and said, “Tired as hell.” She looked at him and quickly looked away again as she said, “I didn't really sleep last night…”
“Harper, I would have stayed, babe.” He said. Harper chuckled and shook her head.
“It wouldn’t have helped if they had shown up.” She said, looking back up at him once more. When Jax blinked, his brows furrowing together in confusion, she said, “Yeah. Um, Nico said they knew where we were. Alvarez saw us that day and...I guess he had his people do some digging...And they found us.”
Jax took a deep breath and let it out slowly, as not to freak Harper out the way he was. He shifted closer to her, sliding a hand around her waist, and said, “Okay, Harper, listen. I’m gonna take you home and you’re gonna pack a-”
Harper shook her head and downed her shot before she stood and said, “No. Jax. Keeping us on lockdown won’t help. They’ll still know to come here and then they’ll end up shooting up the clubhouse and we’ll have put everyone at risk.”
“Then...Half-Sack can stay with you. Harper, I’m not okay with letting you out there alone, right now.” Jax said. He lifted a hand to cup her cheek, moving a little closer, but Harper moved away from him.
“Listen, Jax. I have to go. Um...If you see Kacey let her know I stopped by and-and I’m okay.” She said, slipping her bag over her head, settling it across her chest. As she made her way to the door, Jax tailed her, trying to stop her.
“Hey. Harper. Baby, just talk to me.” Jax said, gently taking her upper arm. Harper turned to him, stepping closer and whispering, “Jax. Can we not do this here? I’m not trying to announce to the entire fucking club that we dated Mayans, okay? If you want to talk...Just…”
Harper shook her head and held up her hand, shaking it as well to wave him off. She deeply didn't want to continue this conversation, in fact, she was prepared to pack up and move on to the next town, but they had grown to like the life they were starting to build here. Despite being so close to their past, being in Charming made them feel miles away. Harper shook her head and turned on her heel, walking back out to her bike. Jax sighed and stayed in the doorway as he watched Harper start her bike and ride off the lot.
~
Throughout the next week, Harper made little appearances at the clubhouse, making sure to call ahead and see if Jax was around. With her bruises and cuts still healing, she didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to her just yet. While Kacey began to settle with her feelings and relationship with Opie, Harper began to question hers with Jax. Harper always protected her sister and if she had the power, she would make sure Alvarez saw their score as settled and left Kacey alone even at Harper’s expense. The week came and went and Gemma had everything planned for the sister's party that Saturday. Friday morning, Kacey jetted off to her shift at the garage while Harper lounged at home, enjoying a day off.
As she finished doing her nails, unplugging her LED dryer and putting everything away, a knock came at the door. For a split second, her heart dropped, petrified that it was a ploy, but she quickly pushed those feelings aside as she grabbed her gun, cocking it before she left her bedroom. Pressing the muzzle flush against the door, she cracked it, surprised to see Jax turn and step onto the porch, as he had started for his bike. He gave her a small smile, slowly making his way back to the door.
“Hey, Jax,” Harper said, setting her gun down on the side table before opening the door for him. Jax pushed open the door and walked in, closing it behind him, as Harper picked up her gun and stashed it on their bookshelf before heading into the kitchen and grabbed two mugs. She poured the coffee in silence, Jax taking a seat at the table to wait for her. She went to the table and sat across from him, sliding his mug of coffee over to him. He gave her a smile and took it, taking a sip, while Harper’s just sat there, untouched.
“How are your hands?” He asked. Harper slid her hands over the wood and gave him a smile as he slid his fingers over her nearly healed cuts. She chewed her lip and pulled them back as she said, “All healed.”
She picked up her mug and took a sip before sitting back. Jax sighed and said, “Harper, come on. You have to talk to me...You’ve been avoiding me all week.”
Harper sighed and stood, taking a few steps away toward the counter, before turning back and leaning against it, crossing her arms. “There’s nothing more to talk about.” She said. “You know my past.”
She gave a small shrug and added, “What more is there?”
Jax scoffed and stood as he said, “Maybe the comment about us not being able to work out long term? If you felt that way to begin with, what the hell have we been even doing the last few months?”
Harper’s eyes filled with tears as she looked away from him. “I...Was just trying to fool myself into thinking it was real.” She said. “None of my relationships ever worked out before, so...Why should this one be any different?”
“Because I care about you? I love you?” Jax said, moving closer to her, cupping her cheek and making her face him. His other hand slid around her hip while one of her hands gripped his shirt, the other latched onto his arm. She shook her head as she tried to fight the tears, but ultimately lost. “Is it because of Nico? That’s why you’re afraid of this?”
Harper sighed and pushed him away, moving from her spot into the living room, where she crossed her arms and kept her back to him. “I’m n-not scared, Jax. I-” She sighed and bit her lip. “I know it won’t work out. I’ve dated biker boys before and they’re all selfish and never wanted me for anything more than a pretty old lady and sex…”
Jax came up behind her, slipping his arms around her and holding her back against him as he nuzzled her hair. “I never wanted you for that, Harp. You’re worth more than that.” He said softly. Harper closed her eyes and let a small smile spread across her face, as she slid her hands over his and leaned into his touch. She couldn’t deny she loved the way he made her feel, but she refused to believe it could be anything real.
“It’s never worked, Jax...What makes us any different?” Harper asked, her voice breaking slightly as she gave a soft sniffle. Jax turned her toward him and cupped her cheek, pulling her closer.
“Because I love you, Harper.” Before he let her say another word, his lips claimed hers and he held her close, sliding his hand from her cheek into her hair. Harper let out a soft whimper as she slid her hands up his chest and wound her arms around his neck, trying to deepen the kiss. Jax pulled his hand from her hair and wrapped both arms around her waist, lifting her. Harper lifted her legs to wrap them around his waist as Jax tugged down the shoulder of her shirt, leaving a trail of kisses down her neck and across her shoulder. Harper sighed and tilted her head back as she pushed his Kutte down, off one arm at a time until it dropped to the floor. Jax felt around for her doorknob, twisting it and pushing open the door.
Jax laid her on the bed and tore off his button up and T-shirt while Harper tugged her shirt over her head and wiggled out of her jeans. Jax hovered over her, kissing her again as his hand slid down her side, hooking behind her knee and pulling her under him even more. Harper sighed and tilted her head back as Jax began to kiss down her neck, wrapping a strong arm around her.
“Jax-” Harper breathed softly. Jax pulled away and unbuckled his belt, pushing down his jeans and boxers. Harper scooted back onto the bed and Jax climbed on, inserting himself between her legs. Harper slid her fingers over his beard then his cheeks, tears still in her eyes she smiled, lightly at him and said, “I love you.”
Jax smiled and pulled her closer, kissing her deeply before he laid her back against the pillows, pulling her panties down, slowly.
~
Kacey was more than a little excited the next day as they rolled up to the club for the party, backing their bikes into their usual spots before climbing off and heading inside. It had been a very long time since she and Harper had a decent birthday bash, so when found out Gemma’s plan to throw them a party, she was more than on board. Especially since it would be a nice distraction from all the other bullshit going on in their lives right now.
Kacey had to reign in her excitement as she all but bounced across the lot to the clubhouse, ready to get her drink on and have a good time. Harper shaking her head at her sister’s antics as they reached the door. “Jesus, Kay, you’d think we’ve never had a party before.” She chuckled lightly.
“Well, it’s been a good long while since we’ve had a decent one at least,” Kacey replied. “So excuse me for being excited.”
Harper chuckled and shook her head, calling out to Half-Sack for a beer and two shots. If her sister intended on doing this, they were going to do it right. Taking the shots, the sisters held them up, in a toast, smiling at each other as they said, “Yay, sisters.” And downed their shots.
Once those glasses hit the bar, everything went off. Gemma walked in with Clay, Tig, and Chibs, the three men grabbing the girls and hoisting them into the air, hooting and hollering, as the sisters screamed and laughed, shouting at them to put them down. Gemma chuckled and slid a hand over Clay’s shoulder, silently telling him to listen to them. The girls were set down only to be mauled by Tig and Chibs hugging them, slinging their arms around their necks and calling for more shots.
“Hey, now,” Gemma said, giving them a look as she set her bag down on the bar, taking a seat. “Let’s not get too wild with the shots just yet.”
Kacey gave a small pout at Gemma’s comment. “Aw, C'mon...I’m not getting governed already, am I?!” She whined. “I’ll keep my clothes on this time...I mean, I make no promises, but I’ll try--”
“Jesus, Kacey!” Harper laughed. “Can we have one birthday where Taz does not make an appearance?”
Harper chuckled and shook her head, climbing back into her seat as she nursed her beer.
“Hey, the streaking incident was one time, ok! One time!” Kacey replied with a playful glare directed at her sister. Harper snorted and said, “Just because it wasn’t our birthday…”
Chibs let out a wolf whistle and said, “Yeh’ve been a naughty lit’le one, ‘aven’t yeh?” As he slipped an arm around her shoulders with a chuckle.
“Oh, Chibby...you don’t know the half of it.” Kacey chuckled as she patted his chest, trying to put on her best innocent expression before slipping out of his grasp, Harper simply rolling her eyes as she watched her sister skip over to Opie.
“‘Christ, ye lucky bastard.” Chibs shook his head as Opie let out a laugh before leaning down to kiss Kacey; wishing her a happy birthday. As he held Kacey closer, he looked up at Harper and smirked, saying, “And happy birthday to you too, Harper.”
Harper tilted her beer to him and chuckled. With a wink, she said, “Thank you, Opie.”
Tig put an arm around Harper’s neck and said, “So, Gem, baby, what’s the plan? Just a cookout? No fights, no competitive drinking? C’mon! Where’s the fun in that?”
“It’s not a party for you, Tig,” Opie said, causing a laugh from everyone else. Tig made a face, mocking Opie, then started chatting with Harper and Juice, as he joined from chapel, sitting next to Harper at the bar.
Kacey leaned over, catching Tig’s attention and motioning for him to lean closer. “Between you and me…” She stared. “I see no reason to veto the competitive drink.” Harper groaned as she overheard the comment. “Hey! I bet I could take him; easy.” Kacey added, directing it towards her sister.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” Tig chuckled. Harper shook her head and slid off her seat as she said, “Good Lord. Okay! Gemma. Can we get the fuckin’ grills going?”
Gemma chuckled and said, “Clay and Piney are gonna get those started once Jax and Bobby get back with the meats.” She got off her stool and held out a hand toward her, waving her over. “Come on, baby. Let’s get some of the appetizers ready.”
Harper polished off her drink and set the empty bottle on the bar, going to Gemma. They put their arms around each other as they marched off to the kitchen, Gemma tossing a look over her shoulder at Clay, to which he nodded and chuckled, patting a hand on Piney’s chest and said, “Let’s go, old man. We’ve gotta hunt down the goddamn charcoal. Jax and Bobby should be back soon.”
Piney chuckled and finished his drink, kissing Kacey’s cheek and offering the sisters a happy birthday, he stood and followed Clay out of the clubhouse.
~
By the time Jax and Bobby got back, unloading the bags from the van, Juice jumping in to help, Kacey and Tig were already on their 4th drink within the hour and showed no signs of stopping. Harper was in the kitchen cutting up fruits and veggies when Jax walked in.
“Hey, Mom,” Jax said, setting his bags down. Gemma turned to him and smiled, wiping off her hands before she kissed his cheek and dug through the bags.
“Did you get everything?” She asked, setting out the cupcakes and cookies before she grabbed the ground beef, taking it over to the stove. Jax chuckled and nodded as he said, “Yeah, Mom. It’s all in there. Everything on your list.”
He scooted through the small kitchen, over to Harper. He slipped an arm around her waist and kissed her cheek, kissing her slowly when she giggled and turned to him. “Hi.” He said. “Happy birthday.”
Harper chuckled and said, “Hi. Thank you.”
“What are you making over here?” Jax asked, sliding both arms around her and resting his chin on her shoulder. Harper giggled and shrugged him off as she said, “I’m making fruit salad and a veggie plate and your mom is fixing some chili.”
Jax glanced over at the huge, tall pot that sat bubbling on the stove and said, “Ooh, you are in for some spice, babe. Have you had Gemma’s chili before?”
“No. This is the first time.” Gemma said, giving her son a look and a smirk. “I thought it was only right that they have it at their party for the first time.”
Jax chuckled and kissed Harper’s cheek again as he let go of her waist. “I’ll see you later, babe. I’ve gotta help set some stuff up.” He said. Harper turned to him and smiled as he kissed her again. She slid her fingers over his cheek and kissed him again, softly, before he and Bobby left. Juice popped in to bring the last bag of groceries in, then the two women were left alone. Gemma glanced at her as she quietly cut up the watermelon and she said, “How are things going with you two?”
Harper glanced at her and gave a small sigh. “Good, I suppose.” She said. “He, um, stayed at the house last night, so…”
Gemma chuckled and said, “Well, that’s good. I noticed you kind of stayed away from the clubhouse this week.” She wiped her hands and moved a little closer to her, leaning a hand on the counter, she said, “Did you guys talk?”
Harper nodded and gave a small smile. “Yeah. We talked. Everything is fine now.” Harper said. Before Gemma could probe any further, Kacey swung around the corner, teetering a little. Both Gemma and Harper turned, with a smirk, and watched the younger Calhoun as she swayed and giggled.
“Harper! There you are.” She giggled, taking a few steps into the kitchen, then those same steps right out. Just before she fell backward, Tig showed up behind her and caught her.
“Whoa. Hang on there, princess.” Tig chuckled. Harper shook her head and looked at Tig, saying, “You let her get that drunk? Sober her up, will you? I really don’t wanna have to chase her through the streets again.”
Gemma chuckled and shook her head, going back to her chili as Kacey said, rather offended, “Hey!...That was one time...And I’m not drunk...Not yet.” Another giggle passed her lips as Tig led her back over to the bar, this time calling for a glass of water. Gemma gave the pot a quick stir then went to Harper, taking the bowl and knife from her. She nodded out to the bar and said, “Go on, sweetheart. I can finish this up. Go have some fun.”
~
The party went off without a hitch; There were drinking and games, a few fights for money broke out, but otherwise, it was just like any other SAMCRO shindig they had been to. Gemma made sure the girls knew about everything that was going to happen, but one. When everything seemed to settle, everyone snuggling up with their old ladies or a beer, or just hunkered by the firepits and talked, Gemma brought out a beautiful three-layered German Chocolate cake, Clay following behind and motioning for people to start singing. Harper sat in Jax’s lap, Kacey snuggled up next to Opie. When the singing started, both sisters jumped and turned, Harper turning a little flush as the singing got louder and Gemma brought the cake over to them. Jax and Opie pulled the girls up off the couch and stood behind them, singing along, as Gemma set the cake down on the table.
Just before the girls blew out their candles, an engine revving caught everyone’s attention and before they could react, three pickups burst through the gate, as they drifted into the lot, at least 4 men in each bed, they stood and pulled out their guns, beginning to fire. All at once, everyone scrambled, they had already begun to scurry into the clubhouse once the gate got broken down, but many were still caught in the crossfire as the club shot back, hitting a few of them. Jax and Opie pushed the girls over the couch, shouting for Gemma and Clay to get them inside. As Gemma grabbed their hands, pulling them over to the door, Kacey stumbled over one of the benches and went down. She quickly popped back up, making the mistake of glancing over at the trucks. She immediately locked eyes with Bastien as he smirked at her, aiming his gun right for her and firing. Kacey scrambled around, trying to avoid any bullets. Just as she got to the door, she felt a searing pain in her shoulder and her leg. She went down and Harper yanked her sister inside, holding her close as she squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the gunfire to end. Tears seeped through her closed eyes as Kacey clung to her, screaming for Opie and Jax.
Finally, the shooting stopped and the sound of tires squealing echoed throughout the lot as the trucks took off. Half the club ran after them, trying to take down as many shooters as they could,
while the other half hauled the dead Mayans into the garage. Harper opened her eyes as Kacey was ripped from her arms. She started to shout at whoever took her, but she was hauled up herself, being crushed by Jax’s arms. She clung to him and burst into tears, Kacey burying her face in Opie’s chest and doing the same.
“Hey, hey. Shh. It’s okay. It’s okay, I’ve got you. I’ve got you.” Jax whispered in her ear, though his voice broke more than once as he did so. Harper shook her head and said, “This-This is all my fault. Jax, I’m so sorry!”
Harper sobbed into his chest as Jax called out to Clay, asking if anyone was hurt. There were a few members that had taken a bullet to an arm or a leg, but nothing serious. Jax sighed and kept Harper close, turning to ask Gemma if she was okay, but his words were lost as Kacey screamed, the pain suddenly hitting her and her leg giving out on her. Opie caught her and picked her up carefully, bringing her into chapel and setting her on the table. Harper pushed Jax’s hands away and hurried to her side, gripping her hand and crying. She looked over her sister as Opie cut away the pant leg that was soaked in blood. Chibs was on the other side of the table, pressing a towel to Kacey’s arm.
“What-What happened?!” Harper shouted through her tears.
“Dinna worry yerself, lass,” Chibs said, flashing a quick, reassuring smile. “No bullets. It only grazed her. She should be jus’ fine. Juicy! I need more towels, laddie!”
Harper shook her head and let out a choked sob, squeezing her eyes shut and pressed their clasped hands to her forehead. She looked at her sister and said, “Kacey, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry.”
Kacey sniffed and shook her head, gripping her hand tighter. “Harp, it’s okay.” She sobbed, softly, trying to bear through the pain. Harper sniffed and watched as Opie tore off his Kutte and his shirt, pressing it to her leg, making her hiss in pain. Jax’s hand closed over Harper’s shoulder, his other on her arm, tugging her away.
“Let me go, Jax!” Harper shouted, pushing at his hands. Jax pulled her from the table as Juice rushed over with more towels, asking what else he could do. As Chibs told him what he needed to stitch her up, Harper stared at her sister, bleeding out on the table. Jax took her face and turned her to him.
“Harper. She’s going to be okay. Chibs can stitch her up.” Jax said. Harper shook her head, more tears falling.
“No! No, she-she has to get to a hospital!” Harper shouted, trying to break away from Jax’s grasp to go back to Kacey, but Jax had a strong arm across her shoulder to keep her still.
“Not ta worry, darlin’!” Chibs called, with a smile. “I was a medic in t’e British Army. I can fix her up. Dinna worry.”
Harper let out a soft whimper, wanting to believe him, but was more worried with losing her sister.
“Harp, she’s going to be okay,” Jax said again, a little softer this time. Harper looked at him as he moved his hands from gripping her upper arms and slid them around her waist. “You’ve gotta let them work, baby.”
Harper bit her lip and nodded, letting Jax pull her closer and she rested her head on his chest and cried softly as Juice closed the doors on Chibs’ orders. Gemma came over and led Harper over to one of the couches to sit her down and let her cry while Jax and Clay rallied the rest of the members and went on lockdown, making sure there would be no other attacks that night.

Y’ALL I’VE HAD WRITER’S BLOCK FOR SO LONG AND NOW I NEED TO OCCUPY MYSELF FOR THE WEEK SO I DON’T LOSE MY SHIT SO SEND ME PROMPTS!
CHARACTERS I WILL WRITE FOR (in order of who will likely spark an idea most to least) FOR THESE PROMPTS:
EDDIE MUNSON (Stranger Things)
MALAKAI BLACK (Pro Wrestling)
HANGMAN ADAM PAGE (Pro Wrestling)
DREW MCINTYRE (Pro Wrestling)
CHIBS TELFORD (Sons of Anarchy)

RHEA RIPLEY (Pro Wrestling)
XAVIER WOODS (Pro Wrestling)

Please pick ONE character and no more than TWO prompts PER ONE request. I’m going to try to make these short drabbles (a feat in itself) and make as many as I can this week.
If you want to request multiple fics, send each in a separate ask, please.
I typically write what I know and that is white female reader/Y/N. I try not to be more specific than that unless it fits the fic (i.e. long hair or brown eyes). If you want anything special about reader/Y/N or a name, please list that as well and I will try my best to accommodate.
This is not first come, first serve. This will be as the request sparks something in my dumb writer brain. (Please do not expect anything posted today as I’m going to wait for several requests to come in first.)

A Hapless Hopeless Crush-Tig Trager X Female Reader
As the child of an ex Son, you would always be protected. No-one did it better than Tig though.
(Part 1 of 2?) (Part 2 here)
(Wait, what’s this? I write a thing that I didn’t plan??? When’s that ever happened?? I’m sorry, I got the inspiration and I couldn’t let it go. It’s pretty okay for something that took me 6 hours and no sleep. If people like it I’ll do a part two. If not, I’ll forget it ever happened)
Fandom: Sons Of Anarchy
Ship: (Pre) Female Reader/Tig Trager, Female Reader/OMC, Mentioned Tig Trager/Others
Characters: Tig Trager, Female Reader, OMC-Kit Minor Characters: Gemma Teller-Morrow, Opie Winston, Jax Teller, Bobby Munson, Clay Morrow, Piney Winston, Juice Ortiz, Chibs Telford, Otto Delaney, Half Sack Epps, Unnamed OCs
Word Count: 4040
Warnings: Swearing, Kind of angst(??)
The Sons had been everything to you, your whole life.
Since before you could remember, your father had been part of the club and you’d had it drilled into you that the club would always help and the club would keep you safe. It hadn’t done much for your dad, since a botched gun deal when you were a young teen had landed him in prison for the bad side of three years. That on its own wouldn’t have been a problem, they’d had better men stay inside for much longer, but it was the fact that he had crumpled when given the chance; he’d ratted on plans that the Sons had been working on for months just to be given a lighter sentence and a bit more freedom when he was still locked up. Otto had found out within days, warned Clay just an hour too late. Two other Sons ended up being locked away, only serving a few months each, and they’d beaten your dad to a pulp and got a few more months but the time didn’t matter to them. Obviously, that got your dad kicked from the club and warned to never show his face around Charming again unless he had a death wish. The second that Gemma had told you, you’d trembled with fear. After all, you weren’t in the position as a family unit to survive without the club and you knew you’d all feel lost without them. But Gemma had wrapped an arm around your shoulders and pulled you to her, promising that you’d never be abandoned by the club and that one coward wouldn’t stop the Sons always being family. Your mum would still be treated as an official Old Lady, you and your siblings would still be looked after as always, nothing would change but the loss of your dad. With the loyalty to the club already ingrained into you, you didn’t even care that he wasn’t there because of what he’d done.
You’d made it a habit to go to the garage at least once a week and see the guys, either when they were working or hanging out in the clubhouse, and chat with them about everything; school, or family, or even the dumb shit you’d hear your neighbours doing at 3am. After all, you were family and they treated you as such in any way they saw fit, which usually included intimidation to any undesirable that couldn’t take a hint. Of all of them, you’d say Jax and Ope were the most protective since you’d grown up with them as pretty much being brothers to you. They saw it as initiation into your life for friends or potential boyfriends, but you’d never really minded.
Didn’t mean you weren’t worried when you decided to introduce your new boyfriend to the club. Kit had passed the test with your family but you didn’t know if the club would be too much. He’d have to see them eventually, of course, since they’d sometimes pick you up and take you where you wanted to go or they’d come over to check on the family at random. You’d rather him meet them all at once than have random bikers come over to him when he was out and start interrogating him about you. “I’ll be fine, Y/N.” He chuckled when you started stressing out over entering the clubhouse, sat in the car just outside of the lot “I’ve dealt with intimidators before, they’re just looking out for you.” He reached over and held your hand softly “Ready to go in?” With a deep breath, keeping back the argument that they weren’t just intimidators but also bikers, you nodded and got out of the car. His arm snaked around your waist as you crossed the lot, and he gave you a reassuring kiss just before you opened the door and led him in.
Most of the guys were at the bar, with the exception of Clay and Tig having a quiet chat away from them all, and they didn’t look over when the door closed “Hey guys.” You called and they all turned with smiles on their faces that faded slightly at the sight of the stranger so close to you, Jax straightening up and looking over to Opie with a deep sigh “This is Kit. He’s my boyfriend.” Kit smiled and waved at the guys. “Hey.” He said, tightening his hold around your waist to comfort you as you made your way over to the bar. Jax and Opie stood and slowly walked over, sizing Kit up and giving him a look that would make lesser men shrivel up. Not Kit, he just nodded and held his hand out “Nice ta meet you.” He said. “This is Jax, and Opie.” You said as he shook their hands strongly. Just as Opie started to open his mouth you held a finger up to him, knowing the basic idea of what was going to come from him “No. Let him get fucking acclimatised first, Harry.” With a smile that he couldn’t hold back, Opie held his hands up in surrender and then hugged you tightly. “We’re just messing, you know.” He chuckled and you nodded “Go on then, let him meet the rest of the circus.” Holding Kit’s hand, you pulled him towards Chibs, who smiled and gripped his hand tightly. “There’s nae need ta worry, lad, we’re not that bad.” He leaned in closer and muttered “Might wanna watch out for Tig though.” He shot a wink to you before he sat back and sighed “I’m Chibs, this kid over here is Juice.” Juice nodded and reached over to shake Kit’s hand “Bobby.” The larger man nodded, a cigarette in his mouth and a bottle in his hand but not relinquishing his hold on either of them to greet Kit “An’ that’s Ope’s da’, Piney.” “Good to see you, son.” He croaked as you walked closer with Kit so they could shake hands, but his look hardened quite quickly “You treating her right?” He gestured to you and you rolled your eyes. “He is, I promise.” You smiled and hugged Piney “Silly old man.” He chuckled and kissed the top of your head. He’d always looked after you, since your dad, and always looked out for you no matter what “Where’s Gemma?” Juice shrugged then stood. “Think she’s in the office, I’ll get her.” “Thanks J.” You said before he hurried out, then you turned to Clay and Tig. They’d walked over during the introductions and started to size up Kit like Opie and Jax had. Clay was the first to reach out and shake his hand, though pulled him in to a strong hug and clapped him on the back. “Name’s Clay.” He said as he pulled away and smiled “Don’t worry, no interrogations from me, I trust Y/N’s judgement. But, uh. You know what to expect if you ever hurt her, right?” “Won’t have to worry about that, sir.” “Good lad.” He chuckled and then looked over to Half-Sack “Eh, Sack. Get the guy a drink. An’ another for me.” “Sure thing.” Sack said and hurried about to get the drinks, holding both out to Clay. “Sack?” Kit muttered to you and you sighed. “Don’t ask him about it. He’s a show-not-tell guy.” You said with a smile and then looked over to Tig just as Kit did. He seemed slightly down about something, but you knew better than to question him about it just yet. Better to do it in private, or at least out of earshot of anyone else. “So, you must be Tig.” Kit said and Tig nodded “Y/N told me about you.” Then the grin spread across his face and he came closer to wrap his arm around your shoulders. “Really?” He chuckled, rolling the ‘r’ and making you laugh as you turned your head away. “Yea, can’t mention the club without going on about you.” The curly haired man grinned at you, wiggling his eyebrows as he did and making you push him away playfully as he laughed and refused to let go of you.
It had been a surprise to everyone in the club that you seemed closer to Trager, but you couldn’t really help it. He never failed to make you laugh with his little quips, even when you didn’t feel like it. Sure, you probably wouldn’t laugh straight away but he’d stay and talk with you seriously until he knew you were a bit less clammed up and then he’d say something so out there and perverted that you couldn’t help but let out an ugly snort of a laugh that soon devolved into you both having fits of laughter. He made you feel better about yourself, in his own special way, and you never once felt like you could be judged by him for how you felt or what you said. You knew he’d always accept you coming around at ass o’clock if you needed him, he’d even kicked crow-eaters and hookers out so he could sit with you and deal with what you needed. In some way, you guess, you’d fallen for him. Or at least developed a crush that was never helped by how close he was to you or the compliments he’d give you about your body or how he’d be so eager to listen to you. It was hopeless, you knew, because Tig was never one to settle down; he was always an eager host to the crow-eaters and he bragged eagerly about his conquests to anyone who’d listen. You guessed you were too close to the club for him to even consider, despite his jokes, so you just accepted the fact that you’d have to get over it, get over him. So far, it hadn’t gone well.
“It’s not all the time.” You said, ducking your head. “Are you blushing?” Tig laughed, trying to get a look at your face again, no matter how much you tried to look away from him “You’re blushing, over me?” “Tig, fuck off.” He laughed loudly and wrapped his arms tightly around you. “Oh, I might fight you for this one.” He said to Kit, who laughed and shook his head softly at the elder’s antics “Remember, she was mine first. I could have her whenever I want.” He reached down to your backside, making you squirm out of his grip with a giggle that hid the frown that threatened your lips. Whenever he wanted, but he obviously never wanted. “Get off her, you dirty fucking pervert.” Gemma chuckled from the door. Her arms were crossed and that sweet motherly smile was across her face as she watched you mess around “So, this is the kid who’s trying to get my Y/N, huh?” Kit just shrugged softly, walking over a few steps with Gemma meeting him in the middle. “I’m Kit.” He said as he gently shook Gemma’s hand, making her smile and look over to you. “Well, Kit, ain’t you cute?” He chuckled and looked down, slightly bashful. “Thank you ma’am.”
Despite your fears, they weren’t too harsh on him. Of course he had to go through the obligatory intimidation from Jax and Opie, crowding him against the bar as they asked about his background and what his life was like, and the sudden change from Gemma where she went from sweet and calm to her deep death-tone and warning him about using you. Actually, everyone but Juice somehow threatened him about being nice to you; Bobby was casual in it with that underlying threat he was good at, Clay and Chibs teamed up to give him the more unsettling warning that was filled with smiles and subtle threats, Tig had pulled him away to have a quiet word away from the group that ended with a clap on the shoulder. Juice, you supposed, was just going to find out stuff about him and use it if needed. But Kit handled it well, with a smile and total honesty, and he wasn’t totally repulsed by your overbearing second family as you thought he would be. At the end of it, when you needed to go home, you’d had fun and all anxieties were gone when it came to letting Kit around the club. He’d come around for any events or parties, sometimes just going when you did, and no-one really minded at all. Tig had seemed a little off sometimes when Kit was about, but you hadn’t managed to get a chance to speak to him alone for long enough to find out what was wrong. It could take a while to crack Tig, through the defensive humour and all, but there hadn’t been much time for it. You knew you’d get there eventually, just had to make time. It was hard though.
Almost exactly five months after Kit had met the club, he’d asked you out for dinner. It wasn’t unusual, of course, but he wouldn’t tell you what the occasion was since it seemed out of the blue. All sorts of possibilities rushed through your head and, a few hours before you were set to meet him, you were sat in the clubhouse with Ope, Tig, and Gemma. Opie was sat beside you, Gemma behind the bar, and Tig sat behind you all nursing a beer silently “Do you think it’ll be a bad thing?” You stressed and Gemma scoffed. “After the talking to we gave him? Better fucking not.” That didn’t help much, still left open the possibility that it was. Opie saw the worry deepen so wrapped his arm around you tightly and pulled you closer. “He probably just wants to treat you. Guys are allowed to do that, you know.” He chuckled and you nodded with a smile “Don’t fret, just have fun. Get all dressed up pretty, make him lose his breath over you, and have fun.” You sighed and nodded again. “Thanks, Ope. You’re amazing.” He didn’t confirm or deny that, just tugged you closer to kiss your head and stayed there for a second. You loved getting hugs from Opie, he always smothered you with his whole self and you felt safer like that. He knew when you needed the smothering hugs, and this was one time, so he wrapped his other arm around you and held you tight to him. Gemma looked on happily before she hit the bar surface and broke you apart. “Come on, we’ll get you all pretty. Not that it’ll take much.” You rolled your eyes and shook your head, scoffing, but said nothing self-deprecating for once “You brought anything with you?” You shrugged and looked over to your bag. “Not much.” You sighed. “I’m sure I’ve got somethings you can have, just for tonight. Come on.” She rounded the bar and hooked her arm around your shoulder, guiding you through the clubhouse to get you ready.
It took over an hour and a half to pick out what would suit your pre-picked outfit, in terms of makeup and the jewellery she had, as well as get you into it all and get another pep talk. You’d brought a dress that wasn’t too much but was still quite sweet as well as fitting heels, and Gemma quickly picked out some jewellery that matched and that you felt was just the right side of ‘trying to impress’. Your hair was curled and precisely placed even though you knew that would quickly be in vain, your makeup soft and minimal but made you glow, and the whole get-up generally made you feel so much better about the whole thing that you had no problem holding your head up high as you looked over yourself in the mirror. After taking a good look at yourself, from every angle you could, you looked over to Gemma with a smile. “Baby.” She said, hands to her cheeks like a proud mother “You look beautiful.” You grinned, unable to stop yourself, and ducked your head. “Really?” She advanced to you and gently lifted your head up to look at her as she tidied your hair back from where it had fallen out of place. “Really. You’ll knock him on his ass.” Her fingertips gently trailed down your cheeks and she smiled at you again as she looked you dead in the eye “You’re gorgeous. Now, go out there and wow the others.” You nodded and sighed deeply before you took another look in the mirror and got walking back to the bar, your heels clicking against the wooden floor.
Clay had come back in the time you and Gemma were getting ready, as well as Juice and Sack, so Gemma went ahead of you and told you to hang back for a second, for the dramatics. Only after she’d hyped them up to see you did you step out meekly. Everyone’s jaws dropped, or they smiled, as though they’d never seen you all dressed up like that even though you were sure you had. Opie actually put his beer down to look at you while Sack stood there gormlessly and Juice’s eyes widened impossibly, Clay grinning at you and whistling instantly before he’d properly looked over you. Tig’s lips were parted softly, his eyebrows slightly raised, all things around him ignored, eyes stuck on a loop of looking over you, he didn’t even notice how you were looking at him more than anyone else, waiting for his opinion to be more clear than the strange expression on his face. You tangled our fingers together and smiled “So?” You asked softly as you spun to give them the full view. “Y/N, you’re…” Half-Sack muttered but the words got lost in his throat so Juice carried them on for him. “You’re gorgeous.” He said and you grinned. “Thank you, Juan.” You said and hugged him softly, pulling Sack over as well to hug him before you turned to Clay and Opie. Clay just chuckled and whistled again, thinking what to say. “You’ll kill a guy, looking like that.” He said and then came over to kiss your cheek softly “Damn.” Opie just nodded, seeming to stick by that comment, and looked over you again. Then you turned to Tig, walking nervously a few steps closer until you were right beside him. “Tig.” You said softly and he instantly looked you in the eyes, that same expression etched into his face “What do you think?” He wet his lips and then swallowed as he looked over you again, nodding. “You look, eh…” He cleared his throat “You look amazing.” And his eyes came to yours again as his cheeky smile went across his face and that look came into his eyes “If he doesn’t appreciate it, doll, come to me an’ I’ll definitely make you feel as good as you look.” You laughed and shook your head at how quickly he could change it up, trying to resist the urge to bring your hands to your eyes and mess up the makeup. “I’ll keep that in mind, Trager.” You smiled and then sighed, smoothing your hands down your hips and turning away from him “So…You’re sure it won’t be terrible?” You asked again to Gemma, who sighed and nodded. “I’m certain. He likes you, and it’s been going well so far, right?” “I mean…Yea.” You shrugged and then sighed, shaking yourself out of it and lifting your head up confidently “Right. Gemma, could you drop me off, I think I’ll be late otherwise.” “Always, darlin’. You’ve got everything?” “Could I leave my bag here, pick it up tomorrow?” Gemma nodded again and picked up her keys, kissing Clay on the cheek before she set off to the door “Okay guys, wish me luck.” You said, smiling as you carefully walked backwards. Everyone but Opie called out a ‘good luck’, Op said “you won’t need it”, as you left and got into Gemma’s car.
You weren’t too late, considering you’d set off before you’d wanted to an traffic was a bitch, and Kit was already there, waiting by the door for you when Gemma waved you off and told Kit to treat you right. He just smiled and waved her off as she drove away, taking a few seconds to look you over before he took your hand and gestured for you to go in before him “You look great, Y/N.” He said, seeming breathless, and you almost bit your lip with your smile, instead ducking your head slightly before realising yourself and tiding your curls as you were led to your table.
By the time your food came, you’d figured out that there was something wrong. Since you’d sat down, he’d hardly said a word to you even though you’d tried to initiate conversation a few times. You’d hardly started eating before it became unbearable “Okay, I’m done.” You sighed, putting your fork down “Kit, what’s wrong?” “Huh?” He asked, dimly, and you sat back, crossing your arms. “You’ve not said a thing, you’ve not looked at me. What’s wrong?” He sighed and put his fork down as well, leaning on the table as he finally looked at you. “I don’t want to date you anymore.” You instantly sat back, deflated as all the panic and fear hit you again threefold “I…I know you deserve a reasoning, so I-” “-I don’t care.” You said suddenly, softly, because you really didn’t. It would probably just hurt you, knowing what excuses he’d been making up “I…Did you just bring me here so I couldn’t make a scene?” The way he stiffened up and looked anywhere but you told you that your assumption was right, making you scoff and look away, biting your tongue to stop the hurtful words “Okay. So I won’t make a scene.” You stood up, smoothing out your dress and tidying your hair “Delete my number, delete all my messages, don’t talk to me again.” Kit nodded softly and then you turned and left without another word. Fuck him, he could pay.
You walked, since you knew what calling your friends or any of the Sons would do if they found out so close to where Kit was. It wasn’t wandering that would lead to a place you weren’t thinking of, you knew exactly where you wanted to be in this mood and at this time. The lights were on, so you knew he was in, and you hardly hesitated before you knocked heavily. You’d already cried yourself out on the way, hiding away from public view so no-one could see you ruining your makeup, but you didn’t even try to clean yourself up either on the way or before the door opened and you were met with Tig’s slightly confused look. It quickly turned to worry when he took your appearance in. You didn’t need to ask before he reached out and bundled you in, closing and locking the door since no-one would be coming over. You wordlessly made your way over to the bathroom to clean your face and try to clear your mind, but it only worked for one of the two. Sighing, you dried your face and exited, gravitating towards the sound of the TV and where you knew Tig would be. He was lounging on the couch, one arm against the back of it, and turned his head the second he heard you padding across the floor, your heels left in the bathroom. Not a word was said between you as you sat next to him, bringing your feet up on the couch so you could curl into him as his hand fell to your arm. Only after a few seconds of not even watching TV did you talk “He broke up with me.” “Did you give him hell?” “No. We were in public, fucking coward.” Tig smiled softly. “Do you want me to..?” “No. Just stay with me.” You sighed, resting your head on his chest, and felt Tig nod before he kissed the top of your head softly. “Okay doll.” Though it hurt still, that Kit had dropped you like that, you still smiled. Sure, the crush would lead to nowhere, but this was enough for you. For now.
And, because I kinda promised. @megalodonewithyourbullshit Sorry it’s not too good and also not very shippy. Very shitty tho

“You know this means nothin’ still, right?” You looked over at Jax Teller’s slurred words and scoffed.
“You called me ‘Tara’. Obviously this will never mean anything to you.”
“Whoops…” You rolled your eyes at his inability to care about anyone but himself and grabbed his shirt off the floor.
“God, you’re a piece of work.” You snapped as you threw his shirt at him. “We’ve been friends for years and you aren’t remotely sorry…”
“Why would I be? Because I called you by the name of the woman I actually love?”
“Dude! Get out!” You grabbed his arm and shoved him out the door of your room; throwing the white sneaker he hadn’t put on yet and his kutte after him. “Seriously, I am not some damn fucking crow eater, Jackson. I was your friend long before you even met Tara…”
“I need my keys…”
“No! Call a fucking taxi. Your bike is staying here. I won’t let you drive…”
“I need my keys!” You hauled back and punched him as hard as you could. He stumbled slightly before the alcohol in his system took over. With a loud bang, he hit the wall and passed out snoring in your hallway in a matter of seconds.
“That’s what I fuckin’ thought.” You stood back and shook your hand. “Fuck.” With an aggravated groan, you headed back to your room to grab your phone and Jax’s keys. You dialed without even thinking; calling the man you wished was in your bed every night instead of your casual flings with Jax, Juice or even sometimes Opie as you tossed the keys into one of your boots so he wouldn’t find them if he were to wake up.
“Aye…” Your head whipped back to look at your alarm clock and you groaned. 3:04 am.
“Shit, Chibs. I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinkin’…”
“No lass, ’s’all right. Wha’s wrong?” He asked sleepily. You sighed as you walked out to go check on Jax.
“I knocked out Teller, again. He’s drunk and I didn’t want him driving…” Chibs chuckled and you couldn’t help but smile at the sound.
“A’right, love. I’m comin’.” You sighed and nodded.
“Thanks, honey. You’re too good to me.” You heard the jingle of his belt buckle over his laugh as you headed back into your bathroom to get cleaned up.
“No, lassie. I’m far from that. I’ll see ye soon.” You thanked him and hung up as you turned the shower on with a sigh.
——
“Thank’s again for coming over so late.”
“Honestly, love. It’s nothin’. Ye know I’d do anythin’ for ye.” He said as he helped you tuck Jax’s passed out body into your spare bed.
“I know you would. Still doesn’t give me the right to pull you out of bed at three in the morning.”
“Aye, but now I get ta sleep ‘ere so I can pick on ‘im in the morn’.” You smiled as you flipped off the light and headed toward your room.
“Well you gotta help me change the sheets then. May have had yet another slight lapse of vodka induced judgement.” He didn’t make a sound as he followed you. When you got in your room, you turned around to look at him with your eyebrow raised. “What?”
“Why do ye do this ta yerself? Yer worth so much more’n that.” You did a startled double take as you looked at Chibs, the man who had become your best friends in the years you’d been helping with the books for the club… the man who you were secretly head over heels, madly in love with.
“You of all people…” Your words were cut off by him cupping your face and kissing you. The kiss was firm yet gentle and showed you more love than your orphan heart had ever felt in your entire life.
“Open yer eyes, love. Yer worth more’n a booty call ta these dumb pricks. Yer worth more than the crow eater life, love. I love ye, (Y/N). Yer worth e’erythin’ ta me… but I can’t stay ‘round any longer…”
“No, don’t go!” You said as you grabbed his wrists desperately. “I’ll stop, I’ll do whatever you want me too. Please, I… I can’t lose you… I love you, too.” You captured his lips with yours as you wrapped your arms around his neck. With a deep moan, he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you close. He started to walk you back to the bed and you forced yourself to pull away. “Not tonight. I don’t want to start whatever this could be like that.” You glanced over your shoulder at the unmade bed behind you to make a point. You looked back up at Chibs, who nodded.
“A’right, love. But I’ll be the only one in this bed from now on, yea?” You nodded as you cupped his cheeks in your hands. He gave you a chaste kiss and rested his forehead against yours with a small laugh. “Jus’ so ye know. This is not the way I wanted ta tell ye I loved ye.” You smiled and nodded.
“Trust me. I totally know.”
——
“Where are my… well, shit. Look at you.” You glanced back at Jax as you made breakfast and cocked your eyebrow.
“Nice shiner. Musta pissed someone off good.” Jax shrugged as he headed over to the fridge to get something to drink. “Use a glass.” You said as you scrambled eggs in the left over bacon grease.
“Who’s shirt is that?” You looked down and smirked at the button down Chibs had worn last night.
“Chibs. How do you think you made it out of the hallway and into bed.” Jax laughed as he drank milk right out of the carton.
“And you were giving me shit last night. What was that about not bein a crow eater?”
“Watch yer mouth Jackie boy.” Chibs said threateningly as he walked into the kitchen, still towel drying his hair from his shower. “There’s m’shirt.” He gave you a chaste kiss as Jax looked at the two of you curiously.
“Did I miss something?” You turned around to look at him to respond but Chibs spoke before you could.
“Aye. Ye did, boyo. Now, ye call my ol’ lady a crow eater once more and I’l knock yer teeth down yer throat. Yer show up here lookin ‘fore a piece’a ass once more and I’ll put a damn bullet in yer skull. Ye and those other two morons known long enough ‘ow I felt ‘bout her. Well, now she’s mine.”
“Took you long enough.” Jax said as he took another swing of milk.
“Use a glass, damn it! I’ve been tellin you that for 16 years!” He chuckled and raised his hands in surrender.
“Where are my keys?”
“You can have them after breakfast. Park it.” You said as you tapped Chibs with your elbow and pointed at the cabinet your plates were in. “And get some ice on that eye.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So, he finally made an honest woman out of my baby girl?” Gemma asked during one of her family dinners a few weeks after you and Chibs started dating. She offered you a beer and you shook your head.
“Took him a while of helping me scrape his drunk friends off my floor before we both got our heads out of our asses.” She laughed as she handed you a serving platter of mashed potatoes. She wagged you closer with her finger and leaned over so she was right next to your ear with a smile.
“Well between you and me, you deserve so much better than Jackson anyways.” You laughed as you looked over at her before heading to the table. You smiled at Chibs, who was talking to Tig about something when you were bombarded by the smell of overpowering, flowery perfume.
You dropped the potatoes on the table as your stomach turned and you shoved the girl out of your way to get to the bathroom. You could hear people calling your name; asking if you were OK as you clamped your hand over your mouth and ran. You pushed the door closed behind you and didn’t get a chance to even look at what it caught on as you fell to the floor and lost what little lunch you had been able to keep down.
“Hey, ’s’all right, love.” Chibs said as he kicked the floor mat out of the door’s path and closed the door behind him. He kneeled down beside you and pulled your hair back out of the way.
“Eww don’t look at me…” You groaned between heaves. He chuckled as you threw up again.
“Darlin’ I’ve seen ye way worse’n this b’fore.” You groaned and fell toward him on your hip as you grabbed some toilet paper to wipe your mouth. You heard a knock on the door as you flushed the toilet.
“She OK?” Gemma asked as she handed Chibs a small bottle of mouthwash and a wet washcloth.
“She’s been sick all day. One of the girls at the club was sick last week, she prob’ly just caught it. I’m gun’ tak ‘er ‘ome all the same.”
“You’re off work tomorrow. Get her to the doctor. Clay gives you shit for it, send him to me.” Chibs nodded as he gently rubbed your back.
“No, I’m fine…”
“No. You’re goin to the damn doctor, (Y/N) and if you give Chibs trouble about it, I’ll send Clay and Jax over to make you go.” You groaned as you let yourself fall over to lean on the counter to see if your stomach was done or not.
“Fine.” You grumbled as you took the washcloth from your boyfriend and wiped your face and neck.
“Let me know what they say.” Gemma said as she dipped back out of the room.
“Stupid doctor…” You growled as you spit the bile in your throat into the toilet.
“Can ye get up, love?” You nodded as you took his hand, letting him pull you up with him.
“I will give you a hundred bucks if you tell her I went…”
“Not a chance. She’ll ‘ave me balls on a silver platter in an hour.” You rolled your eyes as you took the mouth wash from him. You rinsed your mouth out quickly and sighed as you splashed some water on your face.
“Who was that girl? The one I pushed. I don’t think I know her.”
“‘er name is somethin’ like Diane or Debrah. She’s Opie’s new ol’ lady.” You shrugged as you dried your face off.
“Yea, well her perfume reeks. It’s like she…” You words caught in your throat as you opened the medicine cabinet to put the mouthwash in it and your eyes landed on a box of tampons. “Fuck. What’s today?” You looked back at his confused face as he looked at the medicine cabinet.
“Satur… mother’a Christ.” He said as he realized what you were noticing. “We use…”
“Jax didn’t.” He mumbled something in Gaelic under his breath before he put his hand over yours and closed the cabinet door.
“Let’s go.” You gave him a small nod as he put his hand on the small of your back, leading you out of Gemma’s house without a word to anyone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat in absolute shock as the doctor with entirely too much energy read the results of your pregnancy test. You gripped Chibs’ hand tightly in yours as you waited for her to shut up about what great news this was.
“Options if I don’t want it?” You asked once she finally stopped talking. Her smile dropped a little bit.
“Oh! I’m sorry. Well… there is a clinic in Stockton that does abortions up to twelve weeks. You’re at six so you have time. Then there is adoption. I’ll have the nurse bring in some pamphlets for you for both options.” You nodded as she got up from her chair and left the room. You couldn’t say a word; your stomach twisting and turning into knots. You felt dirty; being in love with Chibs while pregnant with another man’s child.
“We’ll say s’mine.” He said softly after a minute of dead silence. “I can’t let ye abort the child…”
“How do you explain a blond child as yours though, Filip?” You asked as you looked over at him. “There’s no way I could do adoption. Look at how well that turned out for me when my birth mother put me up for adoption.”
“N’matter what, this changes nothin’ with us.” You turned to look away but he grabbed your chin and forced you too look at him. “Nothin’ changes. I love ye. I’ve known yer past ‘nd I love ye. I’d still love ye even if we’d not started datin’ that night ‘nd this happened. Nothin’ changes.” You burst into tears and he pulled you into a hug as the nurse knocked and stepped into the room. She set the pamphlets on the counter and told you were OK to check out and leave whenever you were ready. “C’mon, love. Let’s get ye home…”
“What are we gunna tell Gemma?” You looked up at him as he stood up and he shook his head.
“I’dun know.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neither Teller said a word as you sat in your living room next to Chibs across from them. You clung to Chibs’ hand like it was a life raft; waiting for them to process the information. It had been a whole week of long talks and even fights with your boyfriend before you finally came up with the two propositions you had given them: publicly announce that the child was Chibs’ and Jax was to sign his rights over to you so Chibs’ could adopt if he wanted or Jax stepped up and took responsibility with the understanding that Chibs was going to be the more present father figure as long as you were together.
After a good five minutes of silence, Gemma huffed and whacked her son on the back of his head.
“You fucking idiot. I told you to stay the hell away from her with your dick! You’re taking responsibility for your actions, Jackson.” She looked back over at you as she stretched across the coffee table and took your hand. “You tell the truth, baby girl. That baby doesn’t need to be brought into this world as a lie. My idiot son will step up and be the man he pretends to be if I have to personally kick his ass every day to make him.”
“You can’t…” Jax shouted. Gemma whipped around and glared at him.
“Jackson Nathanial. What did I tell you growing up, huh? You knock a girl up and you’re taking responsibility for it like a man. Your dick got you into this mess and you’re gunna pay for it for the next 18 years, do you understand me?!” She raised her eyebrows at him, waiting for an answer. Jax scowled as he grabbed his phone off the table and stormed out of the house, slamming the front door behind him. Her face softened only slightly as she looked back over at you.
“Now you, little missy. I know you have heard the same speech from me as he has. You should have known better…”
“I’m sorry, Gem…” She held up her hand and shook her head.
“Nope. I don’t blame you, mostly because my son should know better. But this situation is not fair to any of the parties involved; Jax and Chibs especially.” Chibs went to interrupt but Gemma simply moved her palm toward him to keep him silent, determined to be heard. “Now, you got lucky with this one. Had this been any other member of the club coming to me beside you with the idea that they were gunna be the one to raise my grand baby over my son, I’d skin ‘em alive. But, I know how much he loves you and I know he is going to be there for you and this child no matter what happens. I also know that he will be the father figure this baby needs that my son isn’t capable of being yet.” She finally put her hand down and laid it on your and Chibs’ folded hands.
“I love both of you, so much. And I am so, so sorry that this is how this situation played out for the two of you.” You nodded as tears welled in your eyes. She gave you a smile and pat your hands as she stood up and slipped into mother mode. “Now, I’m going to go get you some vitamins and some of these ginger lollipops that are great for morning sickness. Do you have an OB/GYN? If you don’t I can call mine and have him get you in. I’ll also do a little paper work and put you on my health insurance…”
“Gem…”
“Nope. This is my first grand baby so I’m gunna help. It’s a little strange that the parents are my son and the girl I see as my daughter, but it is what it is.” She waved her hands in a stand up gesture so she could give you a hug. “Now, no more coffee or caffeine. I know you don’t smoke often so I don’t have to worry about that but you are not to smoke in this house anymore.” She said as she pointed at Chibs and gave him a hug.
“Yes mum.” He said as he looked over at you, a little stunned at the reaction you were getting from Gemma.
“Perfect. Now, go put your feet up, relax. I’m sure you have been stressing about this for days. I’ll bring something over for dinner later tonight when I drop the other stuff off.” You didn’t get a chance to protest as she walked out the door, talking to her self about how exciting a new baby would be. As the front door closed, you looked over at your boyfriend in absolute shock.
“Did that just happen?” You asked as you pointed at the couch. You both thought Jax would choose to sign his rights over. Gemma’s reaction was… well exactly what you thought it would be.
She and Clay had basically raised you from the time you were 11. You were a foster child with the couple next door to the Teller-Morrow’s but you spent more time with her hanging out with Jax than you did with your foster family. She moved you in and claimed you as her own shortly after her youngest, Thomas died just after you turned 13.
“Well… that just made this a wee bit more interestin’.” You nodded and let out a small laugh.
“Well I guess I can be grateful I don’t have to worry about dinner now.” You said as you turned and grabbed the remote to your TV; fully intending to just enjoy your free afternoon with your boyfriend. You both sat down on the couch Jax and Gemma were sitting on with a mutual sigh.
“Well that’s one less thin’ we’ve ta worry ‘bout, m’love.” You huffed a laugh and looked up at him as he pulled you into his side.
“Yea, now we just have to worry about a baby, instead.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
“‘ey, beautiful. ‘ow was the appoint…” Chibs’ words were cut off by the death glare you gave him.
“I’ve gained 19 pounds and I have a small cantaloupe kicking my bladder. Don’t start.” You were 24 weeks pregnant, hot, tired and miserable. He chuckled as he stepped into your office in the clubhouse and gave you a sweet kiss.
“Did they at least get the gender this time or is peanut still bein’ stubborn?” You sighed as you leaned back in your chair with a smile and rubbed your hand over your baby bump.
“Peanut is no longer stubborn, thankfully. I picked up the cake for the reveal an hour ago and our copies of the ultra sounds are in my purse.” You leaned forward and snatched the extra set that was in an envelope from under your keyboard. “For the boy Prince. He around?”
“Prob’ly somewhere. ‘e rode back wit’ us.” You rolled your eyes and tossed the envelope onto your desk. Jax had done every single thing possible to avoid having to step up for his kid; going as far as avoiding the inside of the club house if your car was in the lot.
“Well if you wanna go hunt down him and your brothers, I’ll call over to Gemma so we can do the reveal. And do me a favor…” You said as you reached out and grabbed his hand before he left. “Cut the cake with me if he chooses to be an ass. I already feel foolish enough being…”
“Stop. Ye ‘ave no reason ta feel foolish, love. Not a soul judges ye for this, ye understand me?” You sighed heavily and nodded. “I’ll talk ta the boy. See if I can knock some sense in ta the lad.”
“Thank you baby.” You cooed as you pulled him down to you for a kiss. He gave you a wink before heading out of your office, screaming Jax’s name at the top of his lungs. You laughed as you picked up your phone and called over to Gemma’s office by the shop.
“… Again, I don’t care. You work on Sundays. Period. Hello?” You laughed into the phone.
“Lowell trying to get weekends off, again?” You heard Gemma sigh over the loud squeak of her chair.
“It’s like clock work. Every full moon, he falls apart and I’m stuck with the pieces.”
“Shit, send him up to me. I’ll trade you Mr. Army stories any day.”
“No thanks. I’d kill him. What do you need baby?”
“Gender reveal cake is…”
“I’m coming!” She shouted as she slammed the phone down. You shook your head as you got up and stretched.
“You better be a girl.” You told your bump as you grabbed Jax’s copies of the ultra sound and slid them into your back pocket. You headed toward the kitchen to get the cake as the back door to the club opened and the guys of the MC poured in; some of them getting pushed out of the way by Gemma.
“Tiggy get the plates.” She called out as she stepped into the kitchen to grab a knife and some plastic forks. “So the tally as of this morning is 8 for boy and only 4 for girl. We are out numbered, baby girl.”
“Imagine how Chibs’ feels being the only guy who wants a girl.” You laughed as you pulled the medium sized bakery box out of the fridge.
“He’s not the only one. Jax is the other girl vote.” You nearly dropped the cake as you looked over at Gemma. She smiled and nodded slowly. “Put his vote in this morning.”
“Well I’ll be damned. He’s been avoiding me like the plague.”
“He’s just scared, baby.” You nodded as you followed her out to the bar.
“Place your bets, place your bets!” Juice called out teasingly as you slid the cake box onto the bar. Chibs came over with a small shake of his head; letting you know he couldn’t find Jax. You sighed and shook your head as the guys crowded around the bar.
“OK, ye heathens. Ye have ta see the top first.” Chibs shouted over everyone as he opened the box. You smiled, very proud of yourself for the ‘Harleys or Handbags’ design you and Gemma came up with for the top.
“That’s cute but can we cut the cake now?” Opie called out causing the guys to laugh. You felt a bump on the arm as Chibs pulled out the cake.
“Care if I help?” You looked at Jax with a smile and nodded.
“Wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t.” You saw Clay move to the bar from behind Jax and he gave you a small nod.
“Last count for the poll was you idiots voting wrong for blue and us four voting right for pink.” Gemma said as she handed you the knife and gestured to the four people standing behind the bar. She pat Jax on the shoulder as he put his hand over yours on the knife. With a glance up at him, you shrugged.
“1, 2, 3.” The two of you pushed the knife right through the word ‘handbags’ and you smiled when you saw flecks of pink cake when you lifted the blade. The guys cheered and whistled as you cut the first piece of pink cake and put it on a plate.
“You happy?” Jax asked as he handed the slice to you. With a smile and tears of joy, you nodded and moved out of the way as Gemma took over cutting the rest of the cake.
“Yea, I am now. Oh! I have ultra sound pictures for you. I made them give me copies.”
“Maybe I could go with you and Chibs next time?” He asked as he took the envelope. You glanced over at Chibs as he stepped to your side to congratulate the both of you. He gave Jax a quick hug and nodded.
“Absolutely, brother. It’s your little girl.” You nodded in agreement as tears welled in Jax’s eyes. He gave you a quick kiss on the cheek before grabbing a beer and a slice of cake and going to join the rest of his brothers to celebrate.
“Told ye e’d come ‘round.” Chibs said as he put his arm around your waist. You let your head fall on his shoulder and sighed.
“Thank you, for everything. I don’t know what…” He grabbed your fork and a bite of cake and popped it in your mouth, effectively silencing you.
“Stop. Ye don’ need ta keep thankin’ me, love. Jus’ keep on lovin’ me.” You picked your head up and happily scowled.
“You’re a pain in my ass.” You teased; quickly grabbing a piece of cake with your fingers and silencing his retort the same way he did.
“Pregnant or not, you two start a cake fight in my clubhouse and you’re cleaning the whole building.” Clay teased as he grabbed one of the last pieces of cake from the bar. You laughed as Chibs grabbed his own piece and followed you to sit and celebrate with the rest of your family.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“This little girl is most definitely a Teller.” Gemma said as she watched you bouncing on an exercise ball in the hospital in an attempt to induce labor at 38.5 weeks. You had been confined to your hospital room for three weeks to monitor the Braxton Hicks contractions you were having because, with the genetic heart condition Jax had, your doctor wanted to be safe over sorry. You even had a c-section scheduled the next day, just in case. Good ol’ “Teller family flaw”.
“Yea, well I’m so tired I’m about to cut her out myself for a night of sleep.”
“Lotta good that’ll do ye, m’love. Then she’ll be out’n cryin’ er’y few hours.” Chibs chimed in. You glared at him, miserable beyond belief.
“You’re not helping.” You growled as you tried rolling your hips in a circle.
“Do the hand thing again…” Juice tried.
“The hand thing didn’t work! See!” The moment you pressed down on the webbing between your thumb and your pointer finger on your left hand, your water broke. The ball you were sitting on slid in the mess and Jax, who had thankfully been holding your arm for balance anyways, had just enough time to catch you before you hit the ground. You looked over at Juice’s stunned face and growled. “OUT!” He took one look at you and ran out the door as fast as he possibly could; stifling a laugh.
“I got the nurse.” Chibs said as Jax and Gemma helped you over to the bed.
“Keep Juice away from me or I will kill him after that.” You grumbled as Chibs walked back in with the nurse and surprisingly, your doctor, Dr. Roberts.
“Well isn’t this convenient. I was actually just coming in to see how you were doing.” You immediately wanted to strangle her for her overly cheery attitude.
“Well… I’m pregnant and have spent three weeks in a hospital bed with a watermelon on my bladder that thinks my rip cage is a xylophone. So I’m great.” She laughed and nodded as she grabbed a pair of gloves.
“So I have you scheduled for a c-section tomorrow.” She confirmed, pausing her thought as she checked to see how far you were dilated. “Now, you’re only about two centimeters dilated. Meaning this could take a while because I don’t wanna risk pitocin. So, since I’m here already, we could go ahead…”
“Out. Get her out. Don’t care anymore. Out.” You said as you threw your hands up in the air, officially 150% done with being pregnant. Everyone in the room chuckled as she nodded her head, got up and headed toward the door.
“Alright, you heard the woman. Let’s have a baby.” You sighed in relief as she headed out the door and glanced over at Jax just in time to watch the color drain from his face. He took a half step to the side and you knew he was going down.
“Chibs, Jax.”
“Oh ho! No ye don’t lad.” Chibs said as he caught Jax and stood him up right with a laugh.
“This is like… really happening.” He said as Gemma took over with a smile.
“Come on, baby. Let’s go get you some water.” You couldn’t help but smile as Gem lead her son out the door.
“Are you gunna faint on me, too?” You asked as Chibs came over and sat on the edge of the bed. He looked at you sarcastically and nodded.
“Aye. Gun’ piss m’self right ‘ere’n er’ythin’.” You rolled your eyes as he kissed your forehead. “Ye ready ta be a mum?”
“Trick question. Am I ready to have peanut out? Yes. Am I ready to meet little Miss Kelsi Renee? Yes. Am I ready for everything else that comes with being a mom? Absolutely not.”
“Ye’ll be fine, love. I’ll be ‘elpin’ ye er’y day.” You nodded as Dr. Roberts and two nurses walked back in.
“Daddy Reaper got a little white there.” She joked.
“Almost hit the ground. He won’t live to hear the end of that one from me.” You teased as the nurses got you ready for surgery.
“So do we have Daddy McScotty joining us or…” She asked a little hesitantly. That was what you loved about your doctor. She gave you no problems whatsoever about your “love triangle” as she once called it; and you loved that she gave both Chibs and Jax their own nicknames.
“I’ll go ask ‘im. It should be ‘im in there. I saw my Kerrianne be born and I’ll see my next one, too.” You smiled at him as he gave you a chaste kiss. “I love ye, baby. Good luck.”
“I love you, too.” He gave you one more peck before telling the doctor to take good care of you. You smiled and shook your head as he left the room to find Jax.
“You got one good guy there.” Dr. Roberts said as she gestured to the door with her chin. You nodded in agreement.
“Most people don’t get a chance to see the softer side of the men I call family, but they all are just angels in biker kuttes and tattoos. But Filip is most definitely a saint.” As the nurses popped the wheels of your hospital bed, Jax walked back into the room, looking a little more green than white. You couldn’t help but laugh.
“Shut up.” He grumbled as he took the stack of scrubs he was going to have to wear from a nurse.
“Damn… I hope one of the boys is smart enough to get a picture of you in those bad boys. You better get one with your kutte on over them, too for me.” The nurses and Dr. Roberts laughed as they started rolling you out of your room to the OR.
“You know what… I hate you right now.” He grouched. You smiled up at him as you reached out for his hand.
“You ready?” He squeezed your hand and shook his head with a laugh.
“Hell no.” You laughed as the nurse got his attention to show him where to change while you got your anesthesia. With a heavy sigh, he leaned down and kissed your cheek. “See ya in there.”
“I’ll be the one on the table.”
“Jesus Christ…” He grumbled with a shake of his head as he walked away.
“Well I thought it was funny.” You said to your doctor as she guided your bed into the OR with a laugh.
The Italian Bartender Ch.1
Intro
Themes: SMUT, Swearing, Violence, Common SOA themes
Pairing: Tig X OC (Charlie), Chibs X OC (Charlie)-Eventual
It was late, I knew that much. The clock behind the bar read 2:43AM but the party was still going which meant that I had to keep going. The house was packed with grinding bodies and a ship’s worth of alcohol-all of which was served by me and three other lovely ladies. We were close work friends and even closer friends in our personal lives; we all grew up within a street’s walk away from each other.
The money was good here-we each walked away with about four hundred dollars a night- and it allowed for me to work about three days a week and juggle graduate school on top of it. I had been here at the club for about a year and a half, serving drinks and playing DJ when one didn't show, and that made me a popular with the locals which then resulted in more money flow so I couldn't hardly complain for the long nights.
Without looking up, I saw a shadow of a group of men settle in front of me yet none of them said a single word. Finally I looked up from my job of cleaning glasses and my heart halted in my chest. There was five leather-clad men before me, each patched into the Charming MC and each looking at me with a smirk on their faces.
“How may I help you guys this morning?” I asked politely, fully aware of how little I was actually dressed as I prepared to get their drinks.
“Five Bud Light bottles and for you to point us in the direction of your boss.” The blond one spoke for all of them, the ‘President’ patch giving me a clear sense of the hierarchy going on here.
“26.56 and he’s in the back of the club in the office. Is he expecting you?” I replied as I got to work grabbing their beers, fully aware of their eyes on me. What I didn't know though, was that there was a particular set of ice blue eyes watching my every move with a fond, curious smile on his lips.
“Trust me, darlin’, he's expecting us. Keep the change. Tig, Hap, stay here and keep an eye out.” he handed me two hundred dollars and left with a wink, two others trailing behind him while the other two he had named stayed by the bar.
“What brings you out here to good ol’ Stockton this late at night?” I tried making conversation first with the bald man covered in tattoos but all he did was watch the crowd and take long drags of his beer.
“He’s not much one for conversation, doll. Name’s Tig, what’s yours?” The blue-eyed, curly-haired man asked me with a smile, offering me a hand to shake.
“Caroline but call me Charlie.” I shook it with a smile of my own, happy to be in nice male company for awhile.
A week later I found myself I had found myself on the lot of Teller-Morrow Automotives, a Sons of Anarchy MC party in effect all around me. There were scantily clad women everywhere and men-all covered in leather with different location patches- littered the lot and were frequently in and out of what I learned was the “clubhouse.”
Jax had found me still at work a few hours later, helping clean up and restock for the next night once he was done with my boss. I didn't question the bruises on his knuckles or his messy hair, I just tossed him a rag and a smile.
“If you want to talk to me, you gotta help me clean.” I explained and he grinned, nodding as he started to wipe down the bar.
“How much would it cost me to get you to bartend at a party this weekend?” he was blunt with his question and laughter bubbled out of his throat as I looked up with wide eyes.
“Any price, darlin’.” he prompted when I hadn't replied.
“Five hundred.” I eventually squeaked out, hoping I wasn't over shooting it and a relaxed breath was released when I saw him nod in agreement.
“Sounds good, here’s my number and the address of the shop. Call me and we’ll set up the details.” He tucked the slip of paper in the back pocket of my shorts and left with nothing more than a wink, sticking a cigarette between his lips and lighting it as he walked out of the club.
“If you don't fuck him, I will.” I heard the words come from behind me and I busted out in laughter as I threw the rag at Maggie, catching her on the cheek.
“Slut.” I scoffed, hip-checking her as I grabbed the crate of unused liquor and toted it to the back room.
“Only for bikers!”
I looked around the same clubhouse the day I left, my heart heavy for the one place I could call home with people who made me feel alive. Juice still had my bag and he slung a protective arm around my shoulders, pressing a kiss to my temple as I surveyed the space around me with a breaking soul.
“Am I not good enough, Juice?” I looked up at the Puerto Rican with blurry eyes, the back of my hand sliding over my cheeks to wipe the fresh tears away.
“Don't you ever think like that, Charlie. Ever. You are more than enough, to me and all of the guys here. Tig is just a fuck up who didn't realize what amazing thing he just lost for being so dumb. You are home to so many people, honey, and you brought so much light into this dark life. I don't know where I would be if you hadn't helped me get back on track and I know each man back there tearing into Tig will say the exact same. Now, you need to heal and to get the hell out of here for awhile. I’m taking you to get your things and you’re going to stay with me. You’re going to relax and recharge and fix yourself and I will be there every step of the way because you're stuck with me just as you are stuck with every other Son. Besides Tig, he won't ever count or matter to you again.” he slid his thumbs under my eyes, catching the tears and wiping them away with a fond smile.
“I love you, Juan.” I whispered hoarsely before burying my face into his chest, my arms wrapping around his frame and squeezing close.
“I love you, babe.” He pressed a kiss to my forehead and squeezed me back, providing so much comfort without having to speak a word.
“Get me out of here.” I eventually spoke up and pulled away, fixing my clothes and smiling small at him. “Yes ma’am.” He kept an arm around my shoulder as he walked us out to his bike, handing me a helmet and slinging my bag over my shoulders so it wouldn't fall off before he climbed on and waited patiently for me to buckle my helmet and climb on behind him.
“Ready?” He asked over the sudden roar of his bike, kicking up the stand and waiting for my answer.
“More than ever.”
When I arrived on the Teller-Morrow lot the day of the party, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't expect the half naked women carrying crates of liquor nor did I expect the fighting in the ring off to the side of the lot as customers waited on their cars to be fixed. With sunglasses still covering my eyes, I surveyed the scene before me and inwardly sighed.
“What the hell did I get myself into?” I grumbled as I lifted my bag further onto my shoulder and made my way towards the garage, looking around for either the familiar blond or the curly-haired man I had spoke to the night at the bar.
“Nice to see you again, doll.” I heard the words from behind me and spun on my heel to come face to chest with a grinning Tig.
“Hi Tig.” I smiled up at him, pulling my sunglasses from my face and setting them on top of my head.
“Here for the party?” he asked, turning the both of us to walk towards the building opposite of the garage. I looked up at him curiously as we came in contact with a floor-to-ceiling reaper next to an almost-hidden door.
“I suppose so, yes. I’m bar-tending.” I replied, waiting for Tig to open the door since I had no clue where to go from here.
“You’re in for an interesting night.” He let me walk in first and my hips subconsciously started to sway, a small smirk on my lip as I walked towards Jax who was sitting at the bar surrounded by other Sons who I had yet to meet.
“Hey, darlin’! Lemme introduce you to the others. This here is Juice, Bobby, Opie, Kozik, you met Hap and Tig, and this is Chibs. Clay and Gemma, you’ll meet later along with the others.” I shook everyone’s hand and tried to file away their names for later before he whisked me away to show me everything and then show me the components of the bar before leaving me to set up my own space how I like it. He offered me a dorm for the night as well, telling me that it would be super late before the party died down and I would need a place to crash for a few hours after.
“Much obliged, Jax.” I smiled fondly at him before putting in my wireless earphones and getting to work setting up for the night. I was allotted two girls, who I later learned were crow-eaters, to help me and once we got onto a first-name basis, the girls and I became fast friends and they did everything I asked of them without any fuss at all.
Juice took me to the apartment Tig and I shared and he helped me pack up the small amount of things I actually owned into three more bags and a backpack. It took us about an hour overall and he helped me load everything into the trunk of my Buick before turning to look back at the apartment.
“You ready to go, honey?” He asked me softly, wrapping an arm around my shoulders again and pulling me into his chest.
“I suppose so. You sure you don't mind me staying with you, Juice?” I spoke, clinging to him with both arms.
“I wouldn't offer if I minded. Let’s go home.” He ushered me easily into my car and waited for me to start the engine before he made his way towards his Harley and climbed on, revving the engine and pulling onto the road to lead the way to his small house a few miles away.
Bikers started to pull into the lot about seven that night and it filled quickly; music began blaring through hidden speakers almost instantaneously and soon enough I was bogged down with orders from both men and women alike. I was careful not to refer to any of them with anything other than “ma’am” or their names if they had already given them. Tig stayed close to me long into the night, hardly ever leaving my sight as he drank and played pool and joked with his brothers. I noticed he kept his eyes on me wherever I went and tagged along every time I had to go get liquor replacements or more glasses.
He made sure to help me get out of any situation a visiting Son propositioned me with, mindful to let them know that I was apparently “taken.”
Juice pulled into his driveway first and motioned for me to park next to his bike, careful as he got off his Harley as I climbed out from behind the driver’s seat and started to unload my bags. He snuck up behind me and grabbed more than half of my things and argued with me if I tried to take some of them back.
“I got it. Grab my keys and go unlock the door.” I sighed and agreed, grabbing his keys from the inside pocket of his kutte and making my way towards the front door to unlock and open it for him. He followed in behind me and set my things in the living room before showing me towards his spare room that I could stay in. To say I was shocked when I opened the door was an understatement; I did not expect the total nerd cave I entered into as he blushed and smiled sheepishly, probably waiting for me to bash his entertainment center.
“This is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life.” I said, awe-struck as I went to look around his setup and look at his games and movies sitting on the shelves screwed into the wall.
“You really think so?” he sounded unsure of himself, most likely thinking I was lying to him.
“I wouldn't say it if I didn't think so.” I smiled at him, walking up the blushing man and patting his cheek fondly.
“You hungry, Juicey-boy? I make some mean Tortilla Espanolas.” he gave me a curious look and nodded.
“If it won't kill me, I'm up for it.” he agreed and I grinned wickedly.
“That's the spirit.”
It was close to 5AM when the party finally died down enough to start cleaning up and storing everything away. All of the visitors were asleep in various positions and locations and those who were not-who had company- were hidden away and enjoying their alone time. Tig stayed even after I had let the crow-eaters go for the night and helped me without me having to ask. We bickered and bantered and flirted all night and I was mindful of where this was headed, but I wasn't sure I wanted to deny it. Tig carried the heavy crates and what would have taken me close to two hours to finish, we had done in an hour and it was time for us to crash for a few hours and recharge.
However, as soon as the door closed behind us to the dorm, I was pinned up against it with Tig’s body covering every inch of my own. My breathing stuttered and I fisted his kutte, unsure of where to put my hands as I looked up at him curiously. He was nosing along the warm skin of my neck, breathing in my scent before pressing a feather-soft kiss under my jaw.
“Can I kiss you, Charlie?” he asked quietly, his hands sliding down my arms before taking my hands from his leather and lacing our fingers together before pinning them to the wall by my head.
“Yes.” The word barely passed my lips before his lips covered mine, kissing me deep and halting any further conversation. I groaned softly and followed his lips as he pulled away to smirk at me and a whimper sounded in my throat as my head fell back against the door with a soft ‘thud.’
“What do you want, Charlie?” his voice was husky, as if he swallowed rocks, and he tucked his face back into my neck to feather kisses across my skin.
“You.”
Sleeping Around
Warning- STD talk, unsafe sex. This idea just popped in my head. I have no clue about STD's. I've never had one or knew someone that had gotten one. So if I got somethings wrong. I'm sorry. Plus I really didnt want to look it up, I'm kinda grossed out lol. Also I'm not saying if you have or had a STD then you're a whore but some how someone got it and it aint by sleeping on someone elses sheets, unless your doing the dance with no pants. lmao. Thank you, Howard Wolowitz. Happy Reading Dollies!!
Waiting for your test results was nerve racking. You had been sleeping around ,now your at the clinic to see if you what or if you had anything. "Mr. Ortiz, come with me please". The nurse called you in. "Shit". You followed her in to a room. "So whats the verdict". Biting your lower lip. "I'm sorry to tell you". "You have a STD". "Its curable right"? You nervously asked "Yes somewhat, if you take your medication right and have protective sex". "We also need a list of your sexual partners in the last two months so we can inform them". "Okay, theres only four". "Men and women". She asked "Just women". You answered alittle too quickly "Alright, write them down while I get your prescription". She walked out of the room. Your hands were sweaty and your mouth dry. Getting your meds, you drove to TM. Looking around making sure no one was around to ask you where you have been. Sprinting to your dorm, you were still in the clear. Until... "Hey Juice, where you been"? "Oh hey Y/N, I was at the doctors". You said nervously. Looking around. "Everything okay"? "Yeah, just a check up". "Making sure jerking off hasnt rubbed you raw". Y/N laughed. "Haha". You laughed nervous. "I gotta go". You ran off. "Okay". "Awkward". Closing your door and locking it, you went to the bathroom, reading the intructions and slowly taking the meds. How could you be so stupid for sleeping with someone with out a condom. You thought. Mean while outside... "Hey Y/N". "Hey Jen". "Wheres the hell is Juice"? She asked angryly "Hes inside". "Why"? "I just got a call from my doctors and they told me to come get checked". "Checked for what"? Your mouth dropped. "A STD, Juice might have given me one". "Shit, you have got to be kidding me". You looked at her, worried. "Tell him if I have it, hes a dead man". "Got it, will do that". She walked off cussing Juices name. "Juice you fucking whore". You stormed inside. Striding to his dorm, you pounded on his door. "You open this fucking door now JUICE". You yelled. "What, what do you want". He opened the door. "Jen she came by and told me you gave her a STD, you also have it". "Shit, I didnt have it before I slept with Ima". Juice sat on the bed. "So Ima gave it to you and to Jen". "Yeah". "You are a fucking whore Juan". "You need to learn to keep your legs closed". You shook your head. "I've never had a STD before and dont know much about them but how can you catch them"? You asked. "Mostly sex and fluids". "Why"? Juice wondered. "I slept in your bed Juice". "Oh my god, what if I got it from your sheets". "I dont know if you washed them after you had sex with her or not". "Gross, your juices all over the place". You gagged, panicking "Y/N calm down you cant get a STD from sleeping on sheets". "How the fuck do you know". "If I catch it I'll kill you". You got up slamming the door. You left Juice there beating himself up even worse than before. "This is why I dont fuck with bitches". You said as you called your doctor.
Three days later... Seeing Juice sitting at the bar you went up to him. "Hey". "Hey, so do you have it"? He asked not taking his eyes from his beer. "No, I do not". You said as you took a seat next to him "Told you". "I'm sorry Juice I dont want Ima dna in me okay". Juice laughed. The clubhouse door flew open. Jax, Tig and Opie came rushing in. "What the hell is yalls problem"? You shouted. "That bitch, Ima gave us a STD". Tig huffed. "I cant believe you have it too". You giggled. “I told all of you to stay away from her, now look”. "What do you mean, you never told us too”". Jax was more mad about I was right then who else has it. You rolled your eyes, nodding your head yes.
”Who else has it Y/N” Tig asked getting aggravated "Juice has it and so does Jen". "Oh god why". Opie yelled. "So let me get this straight". You four slept with her, so that means you slept with each other". "Oh my god thats funny". You laughed uncontrollably . "AHH shut up Y/N". Tig pouted. "Your all fuck buddies, so does that mean I might find you in a closet somewhere making out". You busted out laughing "Y/N if you dont shut up about this, you'll get it". Jax warned you. "Sorry I dont fuck STD ridden whores like yall four did". "My lips are sealed, both lips". You looked around at the guys groaning. You laughed shaking your head at how dumb these boys are.
I wrote a lot of poetry in 5th-6th grade and I can't find any of it. We would have frequent poetry contests in class. It was so fun to always be challenged to write new short poems. I won a few times, I remember one being about aliens. I remember a specific poem I wrote about one of my cats called Coffee Colored Cotton Candy Cat. His name was Sweet-thang and he was this huge poofy Himalayan. We were really close especially when I was a small child. We always watched cartoons together and he let me use him as a pillow. He just showed up in our back yard one day and stayed with us, never knew where he came from. He was really cool and he was the only friend of Isabel who had been through some trauma being separated from her brother and who also didn't get along with Opie. Omg she picked on him when he was a kitten so when he got bigger he went after her. I mean, the others weren't too keen on Opie in the beginning either but they warmed up and accepted him. Not Isabel. She preferred to stay outside so we made her a house and I would sit out there until she felt comfortable enough to walk over to me. I had to be really careful because she was so traumatized but if I could do it without scaring her I would pick her up and bring her inside the bathroom to cuddle in front of the heater and have a scrumptious kitty meal. Sometimes it took her awhile but she'd relax and purr so hard she drooled huge drool spots on me. Sweet-thang would sit outside at the patio door and meow at Isabel through the screen door and they'd just sit together on opposite sides. So I let him out a lot to be with her since I knew he wouldn't jump the fence unlike some of my other cats omfg. Nikki, Opie and Cleo were the biggest boogers, they had to be supervised at all times during back yard playtime because the second you looked away they would climb the tree and get on the neighbor's fence/roof or in our front/side yard. I live on a busy street. It was so stressful, the amount of times as a kid that I had to chase these cats down in full view of traffic passing by. Nikki by herself was one thing, she was older and experienced. Her sister had been hit by a car and her brother died from leukemia. She was wise. But Cleo and Opie were dumb young cats just wanting to go on adventures in the outside world. We got stricter with back yard playtime but like damn, Opie would get on the neighbor's roof and go exploring and freak out their doberman. One time he found their back yard, luckily I had been tailing him and my neighbor saw so they swiftly opened the door. This orange goofball saw me, his eyes went HUGE, and he literally ran and leapt into my arms, clinging to me. Same thing happened with Cleo a few times. She was more obsessed with the front yard. Every time the door opened she tried to escape. When she got out, she would realize the outside world is very loud and full of monsters so she'd hide under a car and be very difficult to grab. But a few times when she was scared she would see me as I got on the pavement to look under the car, huge eyes, and zip over, literally grabbing me with both claws around the neck and clinging like a baby. It's interesting thinking back, although I was pretty lonely, I always had cats for friends. Each one is a very different relationship. Cleo (RIP) and Jeremy are my children but Opie and Nikki (RIP) are my siblings. I think because of growing up this way it's just natural to see all cats as distinct as people. They have so much personality and they look us in the eye and communicate things to us, even if it's not always easy to get the meaning across. Does Jeremy want food? Does he want to show me something? Did I forget the catbox? Does he just want to cuddle? This cat tries so hard to convey things to me. That's a soul. All these cats in my life and even the pets of family and friends all have their own unique life experiences and feelings, just like we do. I'm so happy to have them in my life, no matter how short. Chapter. 4
There was something about Jax Teller. While I was riding with him, I felt it. He wasn’t the kind of guy I was used to, he was different, dangerous and exciting at the same time.
-Do you mind if we make a stop? – he asked and I almost didn’t understand him.
-No problem. – I said and hoped he heard me.
The Harley turned and I found myself in front of a place I passed by that morning. It was kind of a shed, a big one, almost an hangar, and had the name CARACARA written in big letters on its front.
-Can I ask where the hell we are? – I asked as soon as I jumped off the Harley.
-It’s complicated, but I needed to came here tonight, there are some businesses I have to take care of. Do you mind?
-No. I can wait here.
-It’s better. I’ll be back in a moment.
Jax took a cigar from his jacket and lighted it up smoking and heading to inside of the hangar. I stayed there, sat on the Harley, waiting for him to come back and wondering what the hell was that business. Caracara, I had to dig it up.
-Jax doesn’t like anyone touching his Harley. – the voice got my attention and I looked up to see who was talking.
It was a girl, probably on her early twenties, she was dressed like a whore and looked like one too. Blond hair, big boobies, and that promiscuous aura, she was also wearing to much make up.
-I’m sorry. Do I know you? – I asked trying not to sound bothered by her comment.
-No you don’t, but I’m warning you, the owner of this Harley doesn’t like anyone touching it.
-Really? – I said with a sarcastic smile.
-Yes, really.
-Ok, so I’m gonna talk to him when he comes back, ok? I mean, if he doesn’t like anyone touching his bike, how the hell he brought me here on it?
-He what? – she was really upset and I had to try my best not to laugh. – you’re lying.
-Am I? why don’t you ask him? He’s coming.
Jax was really coming, still smoking and with an upset look on his eyes.
-So here you are. – he said looking at her. – your boss is calling you. I’m sorry Lizzy, I had to come here.
-I said no problem, but can we go now?
-Of course we can. Ilma, your boss is expecting you, Half-Sack is gonna come here to take you home when you finish.
-I thought you were taking me home. – she said.
-No, not me. I’m busy tonight as you can see. Anyway, get inside is getting cold out here and you’re really not dressed for cold weather. Let’s go, Liz?
-Let’s go.
Ok, I was being a bitch, but I really loved Ilma’s disappointed face.
-I’m sorry for Illma. – he started as soon as we got on the road. – she’s a little wacky.
-She seems to like you.
-She likes everyone as long as they have a dick. Oh, I’m sorry, I was rude.
-No problem. I can take the word dick.
-That sounded creepy.
-Yep, I know.
After some minutes Jax finally stopped. I jumped off from the Harley and looked around. Fucking holy mother of God, that place was real? I mean, real like real? We were on a hill or somewhere like it, from that place we could see the whole Charming, all the lights from the city and if we looked up, we could see the stars perfectly.
-This is my favorite place to think and clear my head. – he started when he noticed I was speechless. – what do you think?
-It’s amazing, I mean, I don’t even know what to say about it.
-You don’t need to say anything. Here. – he said and when I looked at him I saw he was offering me a beer. – this is the perfect place to drink a bit and talk a lot.
-Just the opposite from the bar.
-Exactly.
-So, you brought me here, you start the talking.
-Ladies first.
-Na. bikers first. You are the homie, you start.
He took a deep breath and a huge gulp of his beer before starting.
-You already know my name. I’m Jackson Teller, but everyone calls me Jax. I lost my father some years ago and since than I’m helping my step father taking care of my mom and the club.
-Club? – I played dumb.
-The motorcycle club I’m part of. The Sons of Anarchy.
-Nice. – I said and he smiled. – what do you guys do on this club? Just ride your bikes, wear nice jackets, play bad boys and drink?
-Kind of it. The club is like a family, all those guys are my brothers and it’s my responsibility taking care of them.
-I got it.
-So I dedicate a part of my life to it, the other part I dedicate to the garage.
-So that’s why you called the triple A so fast, you work there.
-The Sons own the garage and that bar we were in.
-Got it.
-What about you? What did you do before coming to Charming?
-I told you. I was travelling around, my uncle died, left the liquid store to me and my brother and I had to come.
-Your brother?
-Ow, I didn’t tell you about him, he arrived here a couple hours before I did.
-That’s nice, so you’re gonna have someone to take care of you.
-Do I look like a girl who needs someone to take care of me?
He looked at me and I almost passed out again. What was happening to me? My body was in flames and every time he looked at me, that fire got bigger and bigger.
-No, you don’t. Actually you…
-Me?
He smiled, that sexy half smile.
Before he could answer, his phone rang.
-Shit. Just a moment Lizzy. Mom? What is it?
Mom? Gemma. Gemma Teller.
-You’re kidding, right? I can’t believe it. Ok, I’m going there right now. Ok. Bye.
Jax hung up and looked at me.
-Do you…
-No, I don’t bother, let’s go!
He smiled and jumped on the Harley, I did the same. We got inside of Charming again, Jax was riding like crazy, he was really upset. When we stopped in front of a house, I jumped and he did the same less than a second latter, running to the house’s front door and starting to punch it.
-WENDY! WENDY OPEN THE DOOR! OPEN THIS FUCKING DOOR RIGHT NOW! WENDY!
No answer. I saw when Jax took a key from his pocked and unlocked the door. I followed him in, I mean, he was so twisted that I was afraid that he could hurt that Wendy he was yelling at.
When we got to the living room the scene I saw made the floor beneath my feet just disappear. There was a woman, a blond woman bleeding on the floor and the worse part was… She was pregnant.
-Shit, shit, shit! – Jax got on his knees next to her to check if she was alive or not. – what did you do?
-I’m calling the ambulance. – I said taking my phone from my pocket and starting to dial the number. – Jax, the address. I need to tell them.
-Just tell them to come to Jax Teller’s house, they know where I live.
His house? What the hell?
I talked to the hospital and in less than ten minutes they arrived, took Wendy from the floor and headed to the hospital.
-I need to go with her. – he said looking at me. – I’m gonna ask Opie to come and pick you up, I’m sorry about all of this Lizzy.
And so he left.
Soraya Roberts | Longreads | March 2019 | 8 minutes (2,111 words)
In the past, the bow tie seemed to hold him together, kind of. Tucker Carlson had always been as red-faced and obstreperous as so many other conservative pundits, but he had never been known to be “cunty” or “faggot”-level offensive. Still, it wasn’t much of a shock earlier this week when progressive watchdog Media Matters unearthed him spouting slurs like that — a couple of racist remarks rounded out the misogyny and homophobia — during a series of appearances on Bubba the Love Sponge Clem’s radio show between 2006 and 2011. From Monday to Tuesday, after the first recordings surfaced, Tucker Carlson Tonight hemorrhaged almost half its advertisers.
That bow tie had been a flourish of propriety: a strip of cloth separating him from a loudmouth like Howard Stern, the “shock jock” who looks and acts like a dollar store rock star, grabbing his crotch for whoever will listen. But he dropped it the year he appeared on that radio show. It was Stern who hired Bubba the Love Sponge Clem (yes, that’s his legal name) in the mid-2000s to host a show on his second satellite radio channel, and it was on that show that Carlson crossed the line. That was where the shock jock and the political commentator proved that they were one and the same — the former played off conservatism, the latter played it up, but both relied on its foundation. “Well, you’re talking about God and illegals,” Carlson told Clem. “I thought we were just going to be talking about blow jobs.”
But what’s the difference, really? Blow jobs were once used for shock value. Now it’s “illegals.” The punch line being that neither one of them is transgressive in the end.
* * *
No one used the words shock jock for Joe Pyne, the host of It’s Your Nickel (that’s a reference to pay phones, kids, and I’m including myself here) who pioneered in-your-face talk radio in the ’50s and went on to create TV’s The Joe Pyne Show, which sometimes devolved into actual physical altercations between him and guest. No one really knew what to make of him. His unconventional style — dressed-up to dress down “pinkos” and “women’s libbers” and riff on, rather than read, reports — was neither news nor entertainment. It seemed to be best described (well, The New York Times and Time both did anyway) as an “electronic peepshow.” The personality-free press of the time considered Walter Cronkite the most trusted man in America and Johnny Carson the funniest, but Pyne, with his syndicated show on more than 200 radio outlets, was the most Machiavellian. “When it comes to manipulating media,” Icons of Talk author Donna Halper told Smithsonian Magazine, “he was the father of them all.”
Pyne briefly descended from his soapbox in the mid-’60s — for a week’s “vacation” — after bringing a gun to his show during the Watts riots, suggesting the world wasn’t quite yet ready for his kind of conservative appeal. It took until the mid-’80s, when the FCC was no longer so hard-assed and political correctness was all the rage, for Howard Stern to turn the shock jock into a thing. The idea was that PC America was muting real America, and personalities like his were there to liberate our ids … usually on the way to work. “They were pushing the limits of what you could hear on the public airwaves,” TALKERS Magazine publisher Michael Harrison told Thrillist of mavericks like Pyne and Don Imus, who set the stage for Stern. “That was the key to the whole thing: that it was on the ‘sacred public airwaves.’”
Full disclosure: I have always hated Howard Stern. His banality offends me: “The closest I came to making love to a black woman was I masturbated to a picture of Aunt Jemima on a pancake box” — that’s the kind of joke he makes. It’s the sort of quip that leaves a dumb bro stuck in 1992 in stitches. To be offensive your words have to have power, and his … don’t. He swears a lot and cajoles his guests into talking about fucking and snorting and it’s all very Free Speech, Motherfuckers! He can be sexist and racist and classist, because, hey! He’s sexist about men too! He’s racist to everyone! He drags every class!
Sorry, I just fell asleep.
The rebellion is a pose, because at the heart of Stern and all the other shock jocks is conservatism — 2.1 kids, strong moral fiber. They can joke about fucking and inhaling, because they ostensibly aren’t doing either. So what positions itself against PC America, in fact, at its core, feeds into it — the conservatism is the rebellion. Knowing that, you can see how Don Imus calling the members of Rutgers’ women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos” can happen as late as 2007 on his radio show Imus in the Morning (he was fired by CBS and NBC, then hired by ABC). As David Remnick wrote in The New Yorker 10 years before Imus’s offense, personalities like Stern and Mancow Muller and Opie and Anthony appeal to the “audience that feels put upon by a new set of rules — sexual harassment guidelines, the taboo against certain kinds of speech — and wants release, if only in the privacy of the drive to work.”
The audience meaning white heterosexual men. The shock jock industry itself is predominantly white men (Stern’s foil, Robin Quivers, is a black woman, but she has never been the star attraction). Which is not to say that women can’t be as “offensive,” it’s just that the people in charge of hiring them would prefer them to be barefoot and pregnant. There are shockingly few exceptions. Wendy Williams, who rode the wave of ’90s hip-hop and shamelessly confronted celebrities like Whitney Houston with tabloid gossip (she also had a bad habit of trying to out rappers) was christened by New York magazine in 2005 as the “shock jockette.” She was “the black Howard Stern” right down to the middle-class moralism. Other than Williams, the female media personalities who cause offense — Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham — tend toward conservative commentary, presumably because the men on the top floor think they will be less likely to break a nail in those environs. “The complaints of Western feminists look like petty self-absorption when you line them up against human rights abuses in Third World military dictatorships,” is a thing Ingraham came up with — a misogynistic comment cloaked in doublespeak.
This genre of radio personality was dubbed by my colleague Ethan Chiel as the “outrage jock,” the political version of a culture and entertainment-aligned predecessor, who arose in the late 1980s after the FCC regulations on political talk became less clear. This is where a bow tie comes in handy. The outrage jocks market themselves as transgressive, but instead of fighting conservative America, they uphold it, a stance they brand subversive in a sea of progressive liberal media. Rush Limbaugh, who has the most popular talk radio show in America — 15.5 million listeners, according to Talk Magazine — was dubbed by National Review as the “Leader of the Opposition” back in the ’90s. “Rush took radio at a time when the norm was basically NPR. He comes into that church and blows it up,” radio host John Ziegler told The Washington Post in 2015. “Our presidential politics have become a kind of church. The media says, ‘You’re not allowed to say this, or this, or that, because we’re in church.’ People are sick of that.”
So: Stern 2.0, except instead of shouting about pussy, Limbaugh — not to mention Glenn Beck and Michael Savage — shouts about policy. You may remember him calling women’s rights activist Sandra Fluke a “slut” in 2012 for advocating for contraceptive insurance coverage. “She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception,” said the man who has been married four times. “She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.”
Limbaugh needs a brushup on his sex work nomenclature, among other things. But if you want to talk about pimp: Janet Jackson’s nipple ultimately killed the shock jock. In case you aren’t old, it happened during a performance of “Rock Your Body” at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show in 2004, when Justin Timberlake tore off the right cup of Jackson’s bustier, exposing her breast. (Per Jackson, the red bra underneath the rubber was supposed to stay behind, but came away accidentally.) In response, more than 500,000 complaints, all of them from people presumably with nipples of their own, were reportedly lodged with the FCC. President Bush responded two years later by signing the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which raised the penalty for broadcasting “indecency” tenfold. With that, Howard Stern fucked off to satellite radio and the rest of the shock jocks kind of followed suit. Tucker Carlson was what was left behind.
* * *
“Does she have a good body? No. Does she have a fat ass? Absolutely.” Tucker Carlson did not say that. That was Donald Trump in 2013 talking to Howard Stern about a pregnant Kim Kardashian in a radio show appearance that reemerged during his election campaign. On the same show, across almost two decades, the future president also agreed that his daughter was “a piece of ass” and dismissed flat-chested women and women over 35 (thank God). For all his work to divide the nation, Trump had a big hand in bringing shock and outrage jocks together, dissolving any sort of wall (!) between them. “If the political class is appalled by the notion that anything from the morass of ’90s shock-jock radio could become part of a presidential race,” wrote Virginia Heffernan in Politico in 2016, “it may be just as surprising to Stern’s fans, who proudly embraced the outsider-ness of a guy who couldn’t seem further from inside-the-Beltway political chatter.” TALKERS’s Harrison has called Trump “the first shock-politician.”
By the time Trump entered politics, shock jocks were no longer defining the culture and conservative commentators were filling the vacuum. They entered the mainstream on networks like Fox and the intellectual dark web via Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson and Dave Rubin. “The shock jocks weren’t defeated,” wrote Dan Jackson at Thrillist. “They went viral.” This is where Tucker Carlson fits in. He called his resurfaced xenophobic, misogynistic, and homophobic comments from Bubba the Love Sponge’s show (he described women as “extremely primitive,” supported child rapist Warren Jeffs, and compared the behavior of Muslims to animals) “naughty,” then equated contrition with betrayal. “We’ve always apologized when we’re wrong and will continue to do that,” he said on Tucker Carlson Tonight Monday. “That’s what decent people do; they apologize. But we will never bow to the mob.”
Almost 70 years after the first shock jock hit the air, Carlson was toeing the same party line as his predecessors. “They claim that they’re just entertainers and yet they deliver this toxic mix of pseudo journalism, misinformation, hate-filled speech, jokes,” Rory O’Connor, author of Shock Jocks: Hate Speech & Talk Radio, told The Guardian in 2009. “It’s all bound together so when it’s convenient for them to be entertainers they say, hey, it’s all just a joke. But when it’s not, they say they’re giving you information that you need.” Carlson’s comments were only shocking because they veered so sharply away from Beltway politics; with his regressive approach no longer couched in policy, they revealed him for the person he is. And even though advertisers have pulled out of his program, the notion that he could disappear like Stern is one from another time — conservatism is the status quo and there’s always room for it now, particularly when it masquerades as information rather than entertainment.
After Megyn Kelly left Fox, Tucker Carlson took her spot, and if Carlson were removed, a new version of him would sprout in his place. This whack-a-mole quality to outrage jocks extends, more troublingly, to their politics — if they are not outraged about one thing, they will immediately find another. They are as adaptive as comedians like Stern, use facts as props to play journalists like Cronkite, and influence voting and policy just as seriously. As Jon Stewart scolded Carlson and his cohost in 2004 on the CNN show Crossfire: “You’re doing theater, when you should be doing debate.” And without the FCC to shut them down for good, or at least out them as entertainers, the only hope is that their audience will realize that the most transgressive thing to do is to stop listening.
“Jesus…” Kacey sighed, completely spent as she rested her head against Opie’s chest. Her eyes slipping closed for a moment as she listened to the steady beating of his heart and the soft chuckle that rumbled through his chest as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders; pulling her closer. “Did we break the bed? I think we might have broken the bed.” She let out a small chuckle herself, nestling closer as Opie’s fingers traced over the patterns of the lotus and mandala tattoo sleeve on her left upper arm.
“Nah...Bed’s fine.” He replied as he rested his chin on top of Kacey’s head gently. “The rest of the house I’m not so sure.”
“Worth it.” Kacey chuckled as she shifted to lean over Opie, grabbing his jeans off the floor and digging around in the pockets for his pack of smokes and a lighter, sitting back against the headboard as she lit one and took a drag before passing it over to Opie.
“You wanna go offer one of those to my neighbors as well?” Opie joked, wincing with a laugh as Kacey punched his arm lightly.
“Well, if they didn’t know your name before, they certainly do now.” Kacey retorted with a smirk as she took the cigarette back, pressing a kiss to his lips, nipping at his lower lip gently as she pulled away and took another pull, Opie letting out a soft groan in response.
“You’re lucky I have to be back to the Clubhouse by 8.” He growled lowly, Kacey letting out a laugh as she leaned forward to check the time on the clock beside the bed.
“We still have time.” She replied with a sly grin tugging at her lips.
“I still have to shower…” Opie groaned as he rubbed a large hand over his face and beard before glancing back up at Kacey who was now grinning like the Cheshire cat. “Christ, Woman, are you tryin’ to fuckin’ break me before Church?” He laughed.
“That’s never been an issue before.” Kacey snorted as she shifted to stamp out what was left of the cigarette in the ashtray on the nightstand, before she climbed off the bed and wrapped herself up in the sheet, heading for the bathroom. “Besides, if we do it in the shower, at least you won’t reek of sex when we get out,” Kacey added, innocently, before dropping the sheet as she stopped just inside the doorway, giving him a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows.
“You’re gonna end up giving me a Goddamn heart attack.” Opie chuckled softly as he rolled out of the bed and quickly followed Kacey into the shower. He knew he’d get his ass chewed out if he was late for church, again, but God be damned if he wasn’t gonna make sure it was at least worth every bit of it in the end.
By the time Harper pulled back into the driveway, the rumble of Opie’s bike followed. As Harper got out of her truck, waiting in the garage, Opie pulled in and steadied his bike so Kacey could get off, trailing a hand over his back. She smiled and took off her helmet, handing it to him and placing a light kiss on his cheek. Harper took a final drag from her cigarette and flicked the butt away, raising an amused eyebrow as her sister walked over to her, a satisfied smirk on her face. When she reached her sister, Kacey linked their arms and turned to Opie, giving a wave and said, “Thanks for the ride, Ope.”
Opie chuckled and saluted the sisters with two fingers as he backed out of the drive, then took off down the road. Kacey sighed and turned to Harper with a sweet smile.
“And how was your afternoon?” She teased, practically bouncing inside the house, making Harper roll her eyes as she turned to follow her, closing the garage.
“I see you convinced him everything is alright?” Harper questioned as Kacey raided the fridge. She popped up over the door and gave her a look.
“Unclench, Harps. We smoked and drank. I always feel happy when I get...Happy.” She giggled. “Why do you think I have the munchies?”
Kacey held up a jar of salsa and a container of cream cheese, setting it down before scavenging through the cabinets for tortilla chips. Harper smiled and grabbed a bowl from the rack next to the sink, scooping in a generous amount of cream cheese before covering it in salsa. Kacey set the bag of chips down after grabbing one herself and digging into the concoction. Harper licked her lips and sat back with a smirk and a sigh.
“Damn. We haven’t had this in a long time.” Harper said with a chuckle, snagging another chip and scooping up more. Kacey chuckled and nodded, hunkering down in her spot as she nibbled on the remains of her chip.
“Yeah. Last time was...What? The day before we left? Polly was fuckin’ furious.” Kacey chuckled. Harper snickered and mimicked the words, “Do you know where we got that salsa?!”
“All the way from Spain herself!” Kacey continued. Laughing, the sisters said in unison, “Salsa España!”
They both laughed until they had to wipe the tears from their eyes and the silence settled over them as they dove into long lost memories. They took a few more moments before Harper stood and went to the fridge, grabbing two beers and said, “Yeah. Aunt Poll was dumb as shit.”
Kacey snorted into her bite and shook her head, accepting the beer from her sister. Harper sighed and sat back down, pulling her legs up and crossing them under her as she took a sip. Kacey sat back, licking some cream cheese off her thumb and sighed. After another sip of her beer, she nodded at her sister, pointing the bottle at her and said, “So, how’d it go with Jax?”
Harper nodded and said, giving her sister a look, “Convinced. Especially when I had to bullshit about you being paranoid and that’s why I locked up my bike and my truck.”
Kacey clicked her tongue, pointing a finger at her. “Got it.” She said. “I told Opie it had been a while since my last ‘attack’ and I was just on edge.”
“That’s perfect,” Harper said with a chuckle. Kacey smirked and raised her bottle, tilting it toward Harper and said, “Yay, sisters?”
Harper chuckled and clinked her bottle to Kacey’s and said, “Yay, sisters.”
When Opie finally rolled into chapel, he got a stern look from Clay, but otherwise didn't interrupt and the meeting kept going. Once Clay banged the gavel and everyone filed out, Jax stayed in his seat, giving Opie a look to stay behind as well.
“Everything okay?” Clay asked when he saw neither man had moved. Jax stood and nodded, giving him a reassuring smile and patting his shoulder.
“Yeah, man. We’re cool.” Jax said. Clay turned to Opie and said, “Next time you’re late-”
“I know. I know. Sorry, Clay. Won't happen again.” Opie said with a small smirk, knowing the most he’d get is an ass-kicking. Clay chuckled and patted Opie on the shoulder as he left, Jax following him to the door and closing it. Opie sighed and glanced back at his friend and brother before he said, “So, what’s up, Jax?”
Jax rounded the table and took his seat again, folding his hands on the table, leaning into it a little. “Kacey seem on edge to you? I mean it all happened when Alvarez showed up.” He said. Opie nodded and shrugged.
“Yeah, she said that she hadn’t had a panic attack in a while and that’s why,” Opie said.
“Do you believe her?” Jax asked. Opie sighed and shifted in his seat.
“I dunno. I want to.” Opie said, glancing back to the door then looking at Jax, leaning forward. “She has no reason to lie to me. What did Harper say?”
“Not much. But she put her truck and her bike in the garage. I’ve never seen it anywhere but the driveway. Like she’s proud to have it on display.” Jax said. Opie nodded and said, “I noticed that when I dropped Kacey off at the house.”
Jax smirked and said, “Yeah? Is that why you were late?”
Opie smirked and said, “Hey, man. That one has got some stamina. Next time I’m not here, it’ll be from a goddamn heart attack.”
Jax chuckled and shook his head, sitting back in his chair. He rubbed a hand over his chin and said, “Yeah...I know what you mean.”
Opie raised an eyebrow and chuckled. “You and Harper? Shit, we’re in trouble now.”
Jax chuckled and nodded. “How long have you two been goin’ at it?” He asked, causing Opie to make a face at him and shake his head while he chuckled. Jax snickered as Opie said, “It’s just a casual thing. I got the vibe she really doesn’t want anything serious.”
Jax nodded and said, “Yup. Harper mentioned some exes in their past. Probably the reason why…For you at least.”
Jax leaned forward and stuck a cigarette between his smirking lips, sparking up his lighter while Opie raised his eyebrows and tilted his head with a smirk. “Hang on...You and Harper...As in…”
Jax sat back and huffed out the smoke as his answer, leaving Opie to laugh and shake his head. “Shit, brother. Now you’re really in deep shit. Can you imagine what Gemma’s gonna do when she finds out?” Opie chuckled. Jax shrugged and dragged the ashtray closer to him, ashing the cigarette.
“Accept her and be overjoyed to have a daughter?” Jax said. “I mean, come on, Ope. They’re living next door, they’ve been at every party, every barbecue. They’re practically like family anyway.”
Opie shook his head and chuckled. “Just do me one favor?”
Jax smirked and nodded at him. “What?”
“Please, for the love of God, let me be there when you tell Gemma,” Opie said. Jax chuckled and shook his head while Opie laughed.
~
A week passed since the almost run in with Alvarez. Kacey was still a tad on edge, but managed to keep it in check and went about her work like nothing had happened. Harper kept an eye out for any newcomers in the diner, just on the off chance they were associated with the Mayans. It took another week before Harper felt safe enough to bring their bikes back out and start riding again, christening her poor locked up Harley with a ride into Oakland for some new parts for Kacey’s bike. With their birthday coming up soon, she wanted to surprise her with the new mod she had been wanting. When she found the few stores that would order the mod she wanted, she was careful to avoid any Mayan territory so there was no risk of running into Alvarez, or worse; Nico or Bastien.
Harper rolled into the parking lot of Alvin’s Auto and turned off her engine. With a sigh, she took off her helmet and hung it on the handlebars before swinging off her bike and walking inside. She browsed for a while, noting that there was only one salesman, and he was quite busy with how involved he was with his customer. After grabbing a few things for her truck and one or two things extra for Kacey, she went up to the counter and waited as the salesman rung up his customer and he left.
“Hello, there, Miss. Can I help you with something?” He asked, making his way down the counter to her. Harper smiled at him, setting her things down and added, “I spoke on the phone with a, um, Bob? He said my order was here.”
“Oh, right! You’re Miss…” The man, Bob, pulled out a small pocketbook and leafed through it, running his fingers up and down the pages until the right name stood out to him. “Calhoun? Harper Calhoun?”
“Yes, sir.” She said with a chuckle. Bob smiled and nodded, stowing the pocketbook away. He held up a finger as he took a step away from the counter and said, “I’ll be right back with your package, Miss Calhoun...Oh, I’ll be right with you, gentlemen!”
As Bob disappeared to the back of the store, a chill ran down Harper’s spine, not daring to look behind her as she heard the sound of boots clicking on the linoleum floor of the store. Harper kicked herself a thousand times for being too chicken to carry her pistol in her storage on her bike and never regretted anything more than that decision in this moment. She fiddled with her keys as the boot steps got closer, ready to swing if, whoever it was, decided to try anything. She prayed that it wasn’t Alvarez and hoped it was anyone but Bastien; She knew he’d be out for blood, didn't matter which sister. But as soon as she felt the hand on her shoulder, her heart dropped.
“Harpy. I thought you left town.” Nico said. Harper sighed and turned to him, freezing for a moment when she saw Bastien right behind him. With a shaky breath, she let out a broken, short chuckle and said, “I-I did. Um, I-This was the only place that, um, that had the parts I needed.”
Nico looked her over and smirked, glancing back to Bastien. He turned back to Harper and said, “You look good. It’s been a minute.”
Harper sighed and turned back around, not entirely capable of handling this while staring right at him. “Yeah. Well, leaving was the best thing I ever did...So…” She said, her voice dropping off at the end from the confidence it held at the start. Nico snickered behind her, making her cast a glare at him over her shoulder.
“You think that was a choice, baby?” He asked. Nico moved around her to lean on the counter and make her look at him, which she did if only a glance. “Mi Amor, we made you leave. And we told you not to come back to Oakland.”
She didn't know why, but finally being able to stand her ground gave her a snarky sense of confidence and she looked at Nico with a smirk and said, “Actually, what I believe Marcus said was never to be seen in Mayan territory again. And Alvin’s is just this side of Mayan so...Technically, I didn't break any rules.”
Harper held her satisfied smirk, if only for another second or two before it faded and she looked away from him. Nico chuckled and glanced over to Bastien, who merely gave a sneer before he said, “You’d better tell that bitch sister of yours that she better not show her face here. Otherwise, rules or no, she’ll get what’s coming to her.”
“Don’t fucking threaten my sister or you won’t have the balls to cheat on another woman again.” Harper hissed, gripping her keys so hard, she was pretty sure she had either bent them or cut herself, she wasn’t sure which with the amount of rage that filled her. Nico laughed as Bob came back out, carrying her package. He glanced between Nico and Harper as he set the box down and said, “Is everything alright?”
“Fine,” Harper said, grabbing the box. “I paid for this online. Thank you.”
Harper hugged the box to her side and turned on her heel to stride out as Bob called after her, “Hey! Miss!? Did you want to buy this other stuff?!”
Harper didn't answer and strode out of the store, stuffing the box into her storage compartment and grabbing her helmet as she sat on her bike. Her hands shook, making it harder for her fingers to buckle the helmet, even more so when she saw Nico and Bastien heading out of the store. She fumbled once with her keys before her engine roared to life and she quickly backed out, taking off down the street. She was so shaken, she realized she had driven straight into Mayan territory and needed to flip a bitch, fast. Once she did, she saw Nico and Bastien heading right at her, smirking. She swore under her breath and sped up, not much caring if she got pulled over, at least it would scare them off. But as her bad luck would have it, no cops showed up and Nico and Bastien began to gain on her, steadily, until they ran her off the road and made her lay down her bike in the dirt off the highway. Harper whimpered as she picked herself out of the gravel, crawling over to her bike.
Thank God Kacey made me wear my jacket. She thought, knowing otherwise her arms would have been scraped to shit. Just before she reached her bike, she felt a hand on the back of her leather jacket, yanking her to her feet. Harper gripped Nico’s arms as he hauled her up, holding her by her throat. She whimpered and tried to pull away, but he had a strong grip on her other arm, preventing her from escaping.
“You tell that sister of yours that you two had better watch yourselves. You think just cause you live in Charming now, that the Sons can protect you?” Nico hissed. Harper’s eyes went wide in fear. The gesture only made Nico smirk and chuckle as he nodded and said, “Yeah. Yeah, that’s right, love. We know exactly where you bitches are at. You think Marcus didn't see you two hauling your boney white asses back into the club? See, we couldn’t do anything because we were on the Son's turf and my uncle, for some fuckin’ reason, wants to be respectful. But I’m tellin’ you now, baby, you show your face around Oakland again, you won’t only be going home with a few scrapes and bruises.”
Nico released her and Harper gasped for air, but only had a moment before Nico’s hand struck her, hard, across her face, planting her right back in the gravel. Nico smirked and chuckled as he and Bastien made their way back to their bikes. Harper stayed down, listening to the rocks crunch beneath their boots and waited until the sound of their engines were far enough away before she looked up, crawling back to her bike. She checked herself over after she pulled herself up and righted her bike, grabbing her phone and checking her face. She was lucky she had the presence of mind to cross her arms over her face as she went down, though her hands were scraped up. She quickly stuffed her phone back into her pocket and took off down the highway, tears streaming down her face. She didn't want to go home and freak out Kacey even more and she’d be damned if Gemma found out and demanded justice be done for her. So, once she got back into town, she sped right over to Jax’s.
Still shaking, she hardly bothered with turning off her bike, gas prices be damned. She threw off her helmet and hurried to the door, knocking her bruised and bloodied knuckles on the wood, rapidly, pressing her hands against it as she panted, softly. When she heard Jax’s voice travel from the back of the house, she sighed, relieved. But her relief only lasted a moment. When Jax opened the door, happy to see her at first, his smile faded when he saw her face and hands and angrily demanded, “What happened? Who did this?!”
The tears started again, Harper unable to stop them. Jax sighed and hurried her inside, sitting her down at the kitchen table and rushing to grab an ice pack for her hands. As he laid the ice on her knuckles, making her hiss, he asked again, a little more gently this time, “Harper, what happened?”
Harper sniffed and shook her head, staring at the table. “Nico and Bastien...Mostly Nico...All that cheating scumbag Bastien did was snicker and threaten Kacey.” She hissed through her sobs. She was a bundle of emotions, still trying to get over the incident; Scared, pissed and hurt, she didn't know which way was up.
“Okay, hang on, babe. Back up here...Nico? Bastien?” Jax asked. Harper turned her head away from him, biting her lip. At first, the idea of going to Jax was a good one, she knew he’d take care of her, let her come back to sanity and she could do it without taking Kacey down with her, but she didn't think about the fact that she would have to tell Jax about Nico and Bastien, and that they were Mayan. Jax leaned a little closer, taking her hand gently and said, “Who are they, Harp?”
Harper sighed and pushed his hands away as she stood, turning away from him. “Our exes…” She said, finally. She took a breath before she added, “Mayans…”
Jax blinked and stood, slowly, saying, “Mayans? You-You and Kacey dated Mayans?”
While Harper stayed quiet, another realization hit Jax. He inhaled and shook his head before he said, “Is that why you flipped out when Alvarez showed up?!...Wait-Nico? As in his nephew Nico!? Nico Alvarez is your ex?!”
“Yes, Jax! Okay?!” Harper shouted, turning to him as she tossed her hands in the air. “Yes. Nico Alvarez is my ex and Kacey dated Bastien Morales, Nico’s best friend…” She took another moment before she added, “He’s the one...Who’s car she shot up...She caught him cheating on her and beat the shit out of the dumb bitch, then shot up his car.”
Jax sighed and rubbed his face with a groan, beginning to pace his kitchen before stopping to lean against the counter. He braced his hands on the edge and stared at the floor for a minute before he looked up at her. “So why were you two so freaked out by Marcus?” He asked, his tone very unforgiving. Harper chewed her lip as she shifted and said, “The bitch she beat up was Sara Alvarez, Jax! Nico’s sister, Marcus’ niece! Marcus found out and told us to get out of Mayan territory and stay out! Why do you think we moved to Charming?! Because of the homely small town feel? No!”
“So, what? You found out about us and just decided we’d be good protection?!” Jax asked, taking a few steps closer to her. Harper shook her head and scoffed at him.
“I can’t believe you’d say that to me, Jax. I didn't mention Alvarez because I never thought we’d stick around long enough for it to be an issue!” Harper shouted. She shook her head again and headed for the door, saying, “I never should have come here…”
As Harper turned to leave, Jax grabbed her arm and said, “No. Hey. We’re gonna talk about this, Harper! This is a big deal, okay? You dated his fuckin’ nephew, Harper! This information we should have known, I should have known!”
“Why, Jax?! Why?!” Harper shouted, ripping her arm away from him. “It’s not like this was going to be a long term thing anyway.”
Harper quickly walked out, leaving Jax alone with her comment. He rubbed his face and sighed, grabbing his keys off the table and going to his room to look for his Kutte. Despite her past, Jax cared about her, a lot more than he was willing to admit and with his own trainwreck of bad relationships, he was gonna make this one work. But by the time he’d gotten out the door, Harper was already backing out of the driveway.
“Harper! Hey!” Jax called. Harper ignored him and sped down the street, tears streaming down her face as she headed home. She just prayed Kacey wasn’t home. As she rode home, she finally noticed that Jax was trailing her, trying to keep up with her without running into the cops, always a few blocks behind her. Annoyed and hurt, she started going down random streets, trying to shake him off. Jax managed to finally come up alongside her and shouted, “Pull over!”
“Fuck off!” Harper shouted back.
“Harper! Pull over! Now!” Jax called. Harper only jammed the throttle and sped up, continuing to try and shake Jax, managing to lose him at a red light. Once she was sure he was no longer behind her, Harper slowed down and got back on the right route home as the sun started to set. She’d been gone all day and she was exhausted. But she prepared herself for another argument or a panic attack from Kacey as she turned onto her street.
Please, don’t let her be home.
