NLS Series Post-Canon Lore

And now, in a (long) post that absolutely no one asked for, here's my vision for the future in the NLS universe (which may never make it to writing, but it was damn fun to outline lol):

The year is 1515 DR, set around 23 years after game events:

We start with someone familiar:

Jen(evelle) Hallowleaf-Tavyndír

Race: Half Elf/ Age: 20/ Class: Ranger

Parents: Shadowheart & Serena Hallowleaf-Tavyndír (via selune's... special artifact)

Witty, curious, skeptical of everything, and far too outspoken and sassy for her own good, is Shadowheart jr. Jen. Her familiarity with animals as well as her prowess with a bow entice her towards the life of a ranger. Growing up in the cottage with her family and yet so close to the city, she's been socialized and aches for adventure. Unfortunately, as she comes of age and considers undergoing her Selûnite rite of passage, she learns that she is Shar's latest favored toy- just another to snatch from Selûne’s grasp. Constantly in danger because of it, she begins to question her faith entirely, growing jaded at the mere mention of a god or goddess. She seeks to carve out her own fate, without their meddling hands in her affairs, impossible as that is for her.

Which usually puts her directly at odds with:

Aelios ...Thorm? (...Selûne?)

Race: Half Elf /(Aasimar?) / Age: 20/ Class: Divine Soul Sorcerer

Parents: Dame Aylin & Isobel Thorm

He's Isobel and Aylin's golden boy 🙄 Born a little before Jen, and perhaps the bane of her existence. Named for Aylin, his very birth was fabled. He's a peacock like Aylin, literally favored by the gods, and he knows it. However!!! His special Selûnite magic is wild and unpredictable.

Aylin expected something resembling a paladin, like herself- in fact, one might even say she's disappointed. She wanted to train her offspring to be just like her. And physically, he’s a late bloomer. But his magic? These powers he has- they go far beyond what he could've inherited from Isobel in terms of power. His relationship to Jen is unique; they piss each other off royally, but she's also the only one who understands the pressure of being "Selune's chosen". Eventually, their chemistry bubbles over into a steamy relationship. Shadowheart is miserable about it. It's a great time.

And then: alllll his cocky bravado comes crashing down in the incident. After nearly razing a whole block of the lower city to ashes, in what should've been a simple skirmish, Aylin takes him away for several years, for Selûne’s divine intervention. It nearly destroys him, but it humbles him, too. He and Jen get a tearful goodbye, and he's off.

No one knows just what he endures during this time, or what rituals he undergoes, but he comes back...tranquil. Physically hardened. Changed. He has wings! His once relationship with Jen is but a faint memory now. It’s almost…Sharran, the way he returns with such a blank slate. It makes Jen and the others question the purity of Selûne’s practices, and her intentions, to boot. It’s eerie and something is definitely not right. But he, Aylin, and Isobel are ready and willing to help Jen and her family take out the remaining Sharran cloisters, and he's too powerful to go without.

Shadowheart is, needless to say, absolutely thrilled about this. She wants to enjoy her wife in peace and her entire world is just dominated by Selûne, Aylin, Isobel, wings, feathers…gods, so many feathers. And Serena's just really tired lol. (She should be older by now, remember?)

And ik what you're thinking!!! It's getting very elfy up in here. It is!

And so I present you with:

Zera Cliffgate-Ravengard

Race: Asmodeus Tiefling/ Age: 28/ Class: Oath of the Crown Paladin/ Oathbreaker

Parents: (unknown)- Guardians: Wyll Ravengard & Karlach Cliffgate

A refugee from Elturgard mixed in with the other tiefling refugee children, Zera was orphaned prior to reaching the Druid's Grove. There, Wyll met and taught her some survival skills before he was hauled off by the Tadfools. Following some of the other tieflings to the city, Zera is able to put her street urchin skills to work and make a small racket for herself in the years after the grand battle with the Netherbrain. Accustomed to hardship and with a growing frame to match, Zera even begins her own street-fighting ring. ...And so, when the kind Grand Duke and his even kinder partner hear about the literal child standing trial, they intervene. ...And fall in love with her fiery spirit.

Growing up in High Hall, Zera is an outcast, not unlike Wyll and Karlach. Worse than them, she struggles to make a space for herself amongst the nobility; she was an urchin and refugee all her life. Stealing, lying, cheating- they’ve all saved her life at one point or another. She doesn't adjust well, but loves when Wyll and Karlach take her out for training. Naturally, as an asmodeus Tiefling, fire is her best friend. Her happiest days are the ones in which they leave the city- she adores getting to go see Jen.

Feeling pressured to live up to her title as the Duke's kin (she doesn't refer to Wyll and "mom" or "dad"- they’re a lot like her friends in that regard)- she takes up an oath of the crown. It's simple; she protects Wyll and Karlach, honors the family name, and gains respect from her judgmental noble peers. All she has to do is: 1. Keep her promises. 2. Follow the law, and especially: never evade arrest if she breaks the law.

When she learns of an internal assassination plot against Wyll, and some shifty forces framing her, unfortunately, she ends up doing both to save him and Karlach. As if she wasn't shunned before...it’s too much.

A terrified oathbreaker on the run, with very worried parental figures, she takes solace in the company of her friends as she seeks to redeem her name and uncover the truth.

....And maybe a little more? 🥵

...And what group would be complete without its resident bard?

Xan of Crèche Y'llek

Race: Githyanki/ Age: 23/ Class: Bard

Parents: Unknown- Guardian: Lae'zel of Crèche K'liir

Xan, the hatchling, is not so little anymore. Since he came out of that egg, Lae'zel's been teaching him to defend himself. She's taught him to wield every blade, survive any situation, best any opponent, and after all that?

...The boy realizes he's a performer through and through. 😅 he’s everything Lae isn’t. He favors a life or violin to a blade. It can be...challenging, for Lae, at times. But he's damn talented and she's so proud. He has aspirations to write about the Tadfools journey to make it big, but realizes he might need to tell his own story, in order to find success. Harkening back to what Lae said about Xan, he could've been a poet, an explorer, a warrior...it's his right to choose what he'll become, and she's all the happier for it.

...Even if his music drowns out the ever calming sound of her sharpening her blades.

....Now they're ready for adventures :) ofc it's all tentative for now and subject to change.

Y/n L/n is rarely seen walking the streets in public anymore, but that is changing following her recent breakup  from longtime love Charles Leclerc.

The 12-time Grammy winner was spotted out and about in Rome just one day after her release of her new single, Reckless, which reflects on her past relationship with the formula 1 driver.

L/n was joined by celebs friends Zendaya, Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter, Bella Hadid, and Alexa Demie for a night out at Shari Vari Play House in Vía de' Nari, Italy. 

The news of her breakup sent shockwaves on social media. Tweets and memes were made, with fans expressing their disbelief and grief

Rumors had already spread that Leclerc was seeing someone else the last few months of thosr relationship. L/n just made those rumors  official last night as she delivered a tribute to  Leclerc and his new girlfriend Australian Youtuber Lola Ransdell, sending the media to a frenzy. 

The “Karma” hitmaker opted for a dress from Mônot’s SS22 collection, a black dress with cutouts across the chest and stomach, leaving little fabric between L/n’s collarbone and lower waist.

People on twitter are already calling this “Y/n L/n’s Revenge Dress Era” .

The ultimate revenge dress is, of course, the off-the-shoulder black Christina Stambolian dress that Princess Diana wore while her former husband then-Prince Charles was admitting to an affair with current Queen Consort Camilla.

L/n kicked off her sold-out Eras Tour on March 17, and eagle-eyed fans noticed that Leclerc had been absent from her shows.

In case you're unfamiliar with the lore of YourShipName (portmanteau and couple name of L/n and Leclerc), you probably don't understand the distress caused by the news. For most, Leclerc is not even a household name, but for YourFandomsName, he's the titular Lover.

The Midnights singer and  f1 driver started dating in 2016. Fans speculate they met at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix based on the lyrics of Reputation cut "Dress": "Flashback to when you met me / Your buzzcut and my hair bleached." Because, you guessed it, Leclerc sported a buzzcut and L/n’s hair was bleached.

At a secret session for Reputation, Leclerc reportedly told fans that the single "Gorgeous" was about her "angel boyfriend of one year." Other tracks off of Reputation like “Delicate," "Call It What You Want," and "King Of My Heart" are also thought to be about Leclerc.

Her next album, Lover, is also understood to be about Leclerc with songs like "Paper Rings," "Cornelia Street," "Daylight," and the titular "Lover."

During quarantine the couple started collaborating creatively. Leclerc surpassed his muse status and co-wrote Folklore tracks "Exile" and "Betty,"

 Evermore songs "Champagne Problems" and "Coney Island, and most recently, "Sweet Nothing" off Midnights. Other tracks on her most recent three albums canonically about Leclerc include: "Invisible String" and "Peace."

While they opted to remain very private about their romance, the couple was hit with a slew of engagement rumors throughout the course of their ill-fated romance.

"I'm aware people want to know about that side of things," Leclerc told GQ in 2018. "I think we have been successfully very private and that has now sunk in for people."

L/n briefly touched on the privacy aspect of their relationship in her 2020 documentary, "Miss Americana."

"We decided together we wanted our relationship to be private," she said. "Even though [my public image in 2016] was really horrible, I was happy."

"But I wasn't happy in the way I was trained to be happy. It was happiness without anyone else's input. We were just... happy," the singer added.

The "Lavender Haze" songstress' exes famously include Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Pattinson, Fabian Frankel, Ben Barnes, Harry Styles, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Nostraman Nature Sucks: An Attempted Lore Post

Ave dominus nox Night Lords fans. I thought I'd take some time to go through the various NL stories I have to hand and see what I could find out about the animals that lived on Nostramo. Might come in useful for something, who knows?

Sharks and Whales

As a child, on several coastal journeys with his father, he had witnessed the eyeless barrasal sharks that would group together to hunt the great whales of the open ocean. (Night Lords Trilogy)

His voice filters into something savage and predatory, as hungry as the eyeless white sharks of Nostramo’s blackest depths. (The Long Night)

Not a big surprise since they talk about them fairly often and have the Space Sharks as a successor chapter but Nostramo does have sharks. Pretty gnarly-sounding sharks if I'm honest.

I didn't know what "barrasal" meant, so I looked it up and only found one thread on r/40klore that had the same quote in it as above. Hmm.

Assuming it's not a typo or a more straightforward reference to something I'm just not getting, I'd venture a guess that barrasal, understood here to mean of or relating to "barras" like with "abyssal" could be connected to the French Revolutionary leader Paul Barras who is mostly remembered for supporting Napoleon's rise to power before being overthrown by him.

So maybe the older barrasal sharks will make use of younger ones as temporary hunting partners only to be inevitably betrayed and consumed by them. Sounds about right I think.

As for the whales, where do I even begin? I would imagine they're "whales" in name only like in Dishonored:

This does imply the possible existence of a whaling industry at some stage in Nostramo's history, though.

Crows

Jago reached into his pockets, offering a handful of breadcrumbs. Come, he said to the crows. Food for tonight. Flesh, flesh, flesh, they called back. He laughed as several of the black birds landed on his shoulders and outstretched arm. (Prince Of Crows)

‘Yes. I’ve seen them in books. Is a crow a type of bird?’ ‘Black of feather and dark of eye. It feeds on the bodies of the dead, and sings in a raw, croaking caw.’ (TLN)

Breaking news - legion that keeps referring to crows in shocking has crows on its homeworld scandal. "This is outrageous," said local Nostraman cutpurse and skin disease enthusiast Verxaglryn Quickstabber, "here we are trying to make a good name for Nostramo as a respectable hellhole, a place you'd be proud to exile your worst enemy to, and yet we're surrounded by some of the most intelligent and curious birds in existence. I was shanking someone in a back alley the other night and suddenly I saw a crow learning how to use rudimentary tools! Not on my watch, I said to the rapidly cooling body, and I threw my shiv at it. But it just flew away." At this point Mr Quickstabber was obliged to end the interview due to having been eviscerated by the Night Haunter.

I know their communication with Sevatar is happening in a dream but I really like the idea of the crows adapting to Nostramo by developing some kind of psychic hive mind that's also able to be understood by human psykers.

Crag Cougars

A beast of my home world. When next you see one of the Atramentar, look to their shoulder guards. The roaring lions on their pauldrons are what we called crag cougars on Nostramo. It was considered a mark of wealth for gang bosses to be able to leave the cities and hunt such creatures. (NLT)

Every single one of them is Scar from the Lion King, isn't it? An interesting hint about Nostramo's geography though, of which more later.

Rats

Groundcars whisked by, headlights brighter than deep-hive rats’ eyes, the occupants snug and safe behind armoured glass. (Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter)

No surprises here either. Where there's people there's rats after all.

Something with tusks?

The older Astartes grinned, wolf-like and keen, as the Atramentar either side of the Exalted’s throne growled through their tusked helms. (NLT)

This isn't that conclusive because a lot of Chaos Terminators have tusks no matter what legion they are, but Nostramo being Nostramo they probably belonged to a species of giant carnivorous mammoth that ate babies and sprayed acid from its trunk.

Cows? On My Sunless World?

‘They are still of standard human stock, and not to be mourned. What does it matter if the cattle fear the herdsman?’ hissed Krukesh the Pale. (KC:TNH)

This one's a real reach on my part as it's very likely just a turn of phrase, but I noticed it because wouldn't it be slightly more typical to use a sheep metaphor here? Plus it supports the existence of Nostraman cowboys/ranchers/vaqueros which is fun.

No bats?

His helmet bore a new, spread batwing crest in blatant imitation of Sevatar’s own. (A Safe and Shadowed Place)

A sole space was neat: a circle around an iron lectern fashioned in the form of a bat’s outflung wings, which carried a heavy book bound in human skin. (KC:TNH)

Although they appear a lot in the VIII legion's iconography and artwork, oddly enough I wasn't actually able to find a direct reference to Nostramo itself having bats. Let's cover my ass by saying this aspect might therefore have been brought in by the legion's Terran component instead.

Some Nostraman geography

The Hill Folk lived away from the cities, eking out an existence in the mountains. (NLT)

What's worse than living in a Nostraman city? Living on a Nostraman hill, apparently. This seems to just be an idea of ADB's that doesn't come up again but I've always found it quite interesting. Were the Hill Folk as scummy as the City Folk, just with more of a down-home Dukes of Hazzard vibe? Seems likely.

This also supports the idea of Nostramo not being completely urbanised like some Hive Worlds are. In my view its continents might have had a geographical layout a bit like Italy or Scotland where the cities are mainly on the flatter coasts with a more sparsely populated hilly/mountainous interior.

What else? (This part is just me making stuff up so feel free to ignore it. I'm not ADB, I'm not even ADB's hat.)

If the rest of Nostramo's marine life is anything like the sharks and whales then it's fucking terrifying. I would imagine, because it's funny, that a lot of Nostraman food features disgusting industrially-processed fish in some way or another. Like the food in Dishonored but even worse.

Is something wrong, dearest offworld husband? You haven't touched your stale bread, whalemeat and jellied eels.

Since all life on Nostramo seems to be comically carnivorous and aggressive, it would make sense in a 40K kind of way for there to be giant predatory penguins living at one or both of its poles. A bit like the monstrous blind albino penguins HP Lovecraft wrote about.

Last known infrared pict-capture of an early Nostraman settler attempting communication with a juvenile specimen of the native penguin species. There were no survivors.

Similarities of Folklore in H2O: Just Add Water

Previously I did a post on Cleo's bathtub transformation and how it's a previous motif in some legends. I now want to dive into the rest of the folklore that can be fished out of the show. Many parallels are not directly the same, but still share some interesting origins. First, let's look at the powers.

1: Cleo's hydrokinesis can be found in many waterpeople. Almost all humanoid water deities across the world are able to bend water to some extent, many of would would be countless to name in one post. For instance, Poseidon/Neptune was said to be able to control the seas. Triton could calm and raise the waves of the sea with the blow of his conch shell. Aside from water deities themselves, other waterpeople were able to control water. According to "Scaled for Success: The Internationalisation of the Mermaid" on page 108, the Filipino sirenas were said to be able to control water "by manipulating water levels and/or create whirlpools to swamp their prey". According to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore" on page 180, the Filipino kataws control the waters around the Philippine Islands, namely its "tides, currents" and even the "movements of the aquatic creatures". The Asturian xanas were in charge of keeping rivers and fountains calm according to: Mitología Asturiana - Marsellaviana on Freehostia under the llavanderes or washerwomen entry http://marsellaviana.freehostia.com/mitologiaasturiana/seresmitologicos.html

One xana in particular was able to flood as she supposedly flooded the town of Gayangos and created an entire lagoon and the lakes in the area according to: La leyenda de la Xana de Gayangos - La Cantabria Burgalesa https://lacantabriaburgalesa.wordpress.com/2016/12/03/la-leyenda-de-la-xana-de-gayangos/

Asturian llavanderes, basically mythical washerwomen, were able to summon floods and create whirlpools according to the aforementioned Marsellaviana site.

Another mermaid is the seewief or seewiefken of German folklore in Minsen. She once got caught in the net of some fishermen and got tormented, yet she eventually escaped. In revenge, she cast a curse and created storm floods in the years of 1164, 1362, 1717 and 1962 that hit Minsen. Yet another is the zeemermann of the Saeftinghe legend in the Netherlands. A zeemermin once got caught by a fisherman who refused to let her go. Her husband swam after the boat, yet to no avail. He cursed Saeftinghe and flooded the land. It was said that only Saeftinghe's towers would remain. Now, the land, it's called the drowned land of Saeftinghe. 2: Rikki's fire power: Waterpeople can be associated with fire, the sun or warmth despite inhabiting the water. (Added note: Originally, I did not acknowledge that). In Thai folklore exists the so-called Phi thale ผีทะเล sea spirit who is able to appear as a mermaid or a beautiful woman who can lure sailors to their demise. Sometimes a Phi Thale takes form as a St. Elmo's fire, basically a weather phenomenon caused by electrical discharges during thunderstorms. It seems to appear like faint luminosity or "fire" and in context of the Phi Thale it might, for example, take place on a ship's mast as shown on the illustration, but one is not absolutely shore. Sulis is a Celtic water goddess from the United Kingdom who is still associated with the sun and is thus both a water and solar deity. The lakes of the Catalan freshwater-maidens called the dones d'aigua were said to boil if a stranger would dive into them, yet this is only said on Wikipedia without a source and until I do not have found any good source for this, please do not claim it as fact.

The Portuguese water-maiden Maria da Manta meaning "Mary of the Blanket", Maria Gancha namely "Mary Hook", Maria Ganta meaning "Mary of the Grid" or as in the Miranese language, Mariamanta, was said to live in wells. Melusine from French folklore is sometimes said to grow wings when she flies away in the legend and therefore is sometimes considered to be a literal dragon-maiden either with one or two fishtails and sometimes only with a serpent tail depending on the version. She is both considered a watermaid and a dragon-maid in different versions because of that.

An enchanted xana could also turn into a cuélebre, namely a snake-like dragon, in order to be disenchanted. Her savior must perform some tasks so that she would be able to be free from her spell, turn back into a xana or a normal human being and be freed from being bound to her lair. This disenchantment is really complex and one can find a wide sea of different methods. One source of mine is: Some thoughts on Asturian Mythology - David A. I still included them because it shares a little of the fire aspect due to their dragon forms.

3: Emma's ice power: Plenty of waterpeople live in colder waters, but do not possess the power to manipulate water and turn it into ice. Atargatis is one of the earliest waterfolk deities aside from the kullulû of Mesopotamia. She's an Assyrian fertility and mermaid goddess, yet was also described to be a moon goddess according to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends, and Lore" on page 78.

The selkies were also said to go ashore on full moon-lit nights to shed their sealskins and dance at the seaside.

6: The shapeshifting from mermaid to human is something prevalent in folklore, but not at the simple touch of a water drop. Instead, primarily only if the lower half is fully submerged, basically when fully going into a water body. Most waterfolk only have a fishtail that they can discard and wear later on again like a piece of clothing, but some do fully shapeshift like the mermaids of the show do. According to "Mermaids: The Myths, Legends and Lore" on page 181, the fishtailed yawkyawks from the mythology of the Kuninjku people in Australia could go ashore and "sprout legs and seem to be wholly human".

In the original entry, I had wanted to include these depictions that can be seen here, but it got removed. I am not shore what the culprit was, but it may have been the second or latter depiction of Melusine as I did not edit it back then since I thought it would be tolerated because no chest was directly visible. On the un-edited version of the depiction, her chest was already obscured by a light spot that looks like as if the paper had been ripped.

NL-1 turnarounds!! This character is technically for a class about character creation for animation so there’s so much I had to simplify from my original ideas. For some lore on this world that NL-1 and Barkangalo/Carmine (my dog character seen under the tag barkangalo) live in-they travel from planet to planet across many galaxies to learn and discover how each planet’s society’s live and to just experience new things! Carmine is an architectural photographer and spends a lot of time exploring the larger urban areas and taking photos of them. NL-1 is along for the ride and together they get thrown into some interesting situations. If I didn’t have to simplify NL-1’s design there would be a lot more visible mechanics and clearly replaced parts. I’m trying to convey that the different color body parts are replacement parts that have kinda been cobbled together but I don’t think just the colors alone do a good job showing that unfortunately. Which is okay, tbh I might make a more detailed version that I have in my head just for my personal satisfaction, But at the end of the day this whole world brain worm/hyperfixation thing started as a class project and I only have so much time right now during finals 😭

In my sad attempts to elaborate on some world-building, I realized I have NO background knowledge on DnD whatsoever 😀 so I was doing some background research on the Purple Dragons of Cormyr, and according to the forgotten realms wiki, here are some neat bits that I think could pertain to Serena's journey:

1.

"An old tradition within the Purple Dragons involved speedy creation of "strike cavalry" units, and filling its roster with nobles who sought laurels, but lacked temperance and experience in equal measure. These "special forces" served as excellent diversions and cannon fodder."

And tbh I feel like that's totally where they'd sort Serena at first. Foreigner to Cormyr, a noble only in name now, and no experience?

Now, I think she may have proven herself worthy after a few (failed) attempts to have her killed in the front line, and therefore, brought into their official ranks as a Blade/Armsman.

All this to say- whew. A rough start in Cormyr to be sure. The tadpole probably wasn't anything new to her- all her life, she'd assumed she was expendable in one way or another. :(

2. On the bright side, while she didn't have the tenure to retire as a "Graysword"-

(Purple Dragons that served for a cumulative 12 years or more could retire as "grayswords". They qualified for being healed, cured of diseases, as well as getting any missing limbs restored. A test for lycanthropy followed (with treatment, if needed). Grayswords could bear weapons without need of peace-bonds or charters).

-she might have made it to the rank of Sword Captain/Lieutenant, possibly even Lionar/Captain. Which could have given her the valuable experience of leadership she needed to complete the in-game events as the Tadfool's impromptu leader.

So technically, Serena might have to return to Cormyr and serve during wartime? (though it does specify this lasts up to 2 years after departure). Which could be interesting, given that she's opted to settle down with Shadowheart and live a life of domesticity after the in-game events. Spicy.

Sparrow Things!! (New Life SMP)

Finally posting something instead of just reblogging to talk about Sparrow, who is such a cool little fella!!! I stumbled across the New Life series via Owen so it’s unsurprising he’s my favorite character so far. I really missed watching Owen do lore, and I always enjoyed how much he always got into a character!!

Speaking of that, I’m like. 100% terrified and excited for Sparrow to meet Joel because that man is ALLERGIC to lore (/lh). Their interactions are probably going to be so fun to watch when they meet.

Scar and Sparrow would be such a fun pair to watch interact, considering they’re both pilots/aviators. They’d probably be a very endearing friendship, and I look forward to it so much!!!

I’m really interested to see what Owen does with Sparrow’s ‘locked(?)’ ability(s). I mean, we know that after each death in New Life, that player gets a new origin, and Sparrow is trying to evolve into a hybrid by talking to other hybrids. So, I wonder if Owen is able to choose a specific origin for lore purposes or if it’s totally random!! Sparrow gives a lot of, y’know, Elytrian/Avian vibes considering his name and flying, but I also don’t know the full list of origins. Also, I think it’d be funny if it was the opposite of a bird-like origin, like some kind of underground/cave-based origin.

I really hope Sparrow visits NL!Scott and NL!Gem again!! Their interactions were so cute and fun to watch and I absolutely love Sparrow’s cringefail loserboy swag energy when it comes to meeting the hybrids around.

english and german! he speaks the carinthian (southern austria) dialect bc he partially grew up in spittle/drau which is also where his mother is from. he likes throwing in dialect specific words when talking to someone who’s speaking standard german to him. he’s also picking up second-hand italian bc ollie keeps practicing it on him (hes good at picking up languages even when hes not even actively learning any— wasted talent)

st.john’s newfoundland canada babey!! projecting so there’s nl rep.. reub lived there for a short while as a child, started up hobby karting, parents divorce, moved to austria w mom. 25. what inspirations have you drawn on for your story?

re: sims stories, definitely f&r because it encouraged me to want to do a story in the first place and got me more into the premades. this was originally just going to be a cordial backstory (which got reworked some and will now be included in sw). and of course shwc, since for me that was my original exposure to premades as a viable and interesting subject.

the biggest sims inspiration i have is obviously @emperorofthedark. like i feel like i say this constantly but i love her stories, the atmosphere is sooo good and honestly every time i’ve come back to the sims community (before having a story myself to keep me occupied lol) it’s been because i need to check for an update bc i want to find out what happens next LOL

for non sims stuff, i’ve always been super into horror. i don’t really like gore/ slashers, but a ghost story with a good twist (i love when the ghost is just like… tragic vs flat evil lol) or anything with “resurrection gone wrong” themes like pet sematery. some recent stuff i’ve really liked is haunting of hill house/ bly manor, midnight mass, the new interview with the vampire show, talk to me, stuff like that. (please whoever is reading this rec me horror books and movies lol)

and the dark side of fairy lore of course! when i was a kid i had this anthology of darker/ retold fairytales called “a wolf at the door” and i’ve been hooked on that kind of thing ever since.

also true blood, i know it’s goofy but it’s a comfort show i guess? for the inspiration for the tricou family’s backstory which will get written about at some point re: the grand vampires in NL are like, a vampire council. also the aesthetic of twin peaks/ true detective.

28. if you could reproduce your story in another medium (movie, novel, comic, etc.) what would you choose and why?

tv show for sure! hour long, shorter seasons like hbo shows. i’m thinking it will end up being around 12~ chapters and i’m honestly writing it to be like that already, where i’m trying to do the scenes as if they were in a show (with a soundtrack and everything lol), where the images aren’t always straight depictions of the text but they compliment each other instead, if that makes sense.
