Third Annual Coach Knapp Campaign Returns With Joint Stair Climb Prior To Thursday Night Football
The Coach Knapp Memorial Fund, named in honor of veteran NFL assistant coach Greg Knapp, dedicated to educating drivers on the dangers of distracted driving, reduce the number of distracted driving related deaths, and promote distracted driving awareness reform, will have its busiest weekend of the year to date this week, as three NFL teams and a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) will take to the stairs.
Thursday night at MetLife Stadium, the New York Jets and Houston Texans will combine efforts for this season's first join stair climb, taking place at approximately 5:30 PM. Then on Sunday prior to their game at Nissan Stadium against the New England Patriots, the Tennessee Titans will join this year's participants. The week will end on Monday, with the Boston College Eagles running the steps of Alumni Stadium in Newton, Mass. as part of their return to play week when the face another Knapp Stair Climb participant, Syracuse University.
Nearly half of the NFL and over a dozen NCAA teams are participating in this fall's "Coach Knapp Stair Climb," the largest number in the brief three-year history of the event.
In honor of Coach Knapp, NFL coaches, players, executives and alumni will participate in raising funds and awareness at each NFL stadium prior to team warmups. Teams confirmed to participate in the stair climb include: Packers, Colts, Titans, Rams, Jets, Browns, Texans, 49ers, Commanders, Falcons. Participating NCAA teams include: Boston College, Oregon State University, Georgia State University, University of Oregon, University of Houston, Syracuse University, Sacramento State, Boston College, Butler University, East Carolina University, Ripon College, Rice University, and the University of Utah.
Over 500 coaches, players and staff will be participating in various forms on game days, easily eclipsing the goal of 20+ participating teams.
The fund, which has raised over $250,000 to date already, was created by Greg's wife, Charlotte, and close friend and agent, Jeff Sperbeck, to honor the legacy of Greg Knapp who tragically passed away in July 2021 after being hit by a distracted driver while he was bicycling. Coach Knapp was known for climbing the stadium stairs before every single NFL game he coached over his 25 season career. All will be tagged #knappstairclimb on social platforms.
At the time of his passing, Knapp was recently named Passing Game Coordinator of the New York Jets under head coach Robert Saleh, after serving as an assistant coach for over a quarter of a century.

How the fuck did regulations occur to where Ford Rangers can't be little trail trucks anymore, but these are ok? I have a '93 steel body truck myself, but I live in the woods. I sorted limbs I'd loaded it up with for garden bed poles and fire wood today and we're hauling a shed tomorrow. My truck is BIG but it's still smaller than current F250's. I used drive a '10 Titan that was about the same size as current Frontiers which are supposed to be the little sport Nissan truck. Hubby's Ranger's a '98 and perfect off trail size.
Sorry I'm just an old truck apologist, but I am fresh with the knowledge that even though they do still make Rangers, they have to be huge for some relatively recent regulations which is garbagio. We were at the auto parts place fixing a lightbulb next to an 00's Tacoma the same size as our Ranger just marvelling at how convenient and useful small trucks are compared to how huge they all have to be now. I love that we can take a little truck like that into the bush and don't need to waste money on a stupid ass side by side or 4 wheeler.
Here's my tronk full of limbs and my hesquatch husband's truck when he surprised me how far he dooted it way off the trail with unparalleled 4WD dexterity. We're only "Ford people" now by surprise coincidence, we were aiming for "old forest truck people" for a hot minute to get to this point.
Fuck the cybertruck. And the rest of the overly complicated, planned obsolescence ridden, right to repair denying, unreasonably enormous eyesore trucks out there.
now i’m not saying it’s going to be funny when a cybertruck massacres everyone inside of it because the autopilot hit a concrete barrier going 40 mph, but when the car made out of thick sheet metal with no crumple zones transfers the entire force and energy of the impact into the now liquidated bodies of its driver like a mortal kombat x-ray move, i might laugh
#personal piney posting#trucks#Ford ranger#90's Ford#fuuuuck the cybertruck#piney woods#east tx#hesquatch could actually REACH all the spark plugs in that ranger to replace them unlike vehicles where half of them are damn near#inaccessible under the engine block#right to repair is no joke#making things impossible to work on unless it's at the dealership is not only trash for the vehicle owner but is a#huge reason small auto repair shops are vanishing

I Manifested The Car I Wanted
As many of you are aware, I had to part with my beloved 2012 Nissan Titan this past spring after I fell and shattered my tibia and fractured my tibia plateau. Even now, seven months later, I still cannot get in and out of a vehicle which is that high off the ground. I was heartbroken to have to part with it. I was anxious to get my independence back after having to rely on others for so many…

Nissan's rugged Titan pickup truck enters 2024 with a styling refresh, simplified trim lineup, and higher starting price. The changes aim to make the aging but still-capable Titan an eye-catching option in the competitive truck market. Highlights of the 2024 Nissan Titan The 2024 Titan gains a new Bronze Edition appearance package for the SV trim that mixes gloss black accents with vibrant bronze 20-inch wheels. It's only available on the half-ton Titan, not the heavier Titan XD. Both Titan and Titan XD drop the base S trim for 2024. The SV now serves as the new entry-level model, causing base prices to rise $5240 on the Titan to $47,665, and $3940 on the XD to $53,825. Outside of some minor price increases, the rest of the Titan lineup is largely unchanged, offering the same engine, transmission, and towing capabilities as before. Examining the New Bronze Edition for 2024 The Bronze Edition aims to give the 2024 Titan a custom, attention-grabbing look straight from the factory. Here are the components that make up this bold styling package: Bronze 20-inch alloy wheels - The bronze wheels are the centerpiece of the package. Their deep bronze color contrasts strikingly with the Titan's exterior paint, especially vivid green shades. Blacked-out exterior accents - The front grille surround, grille center section, front bumper accent line and fog light accents all get a gloss black treatment to complement the bronze wheels. Bed-mounted sport bar - A bed-mounted sport bar bearing a "Titan" cutout adds a motorsports-inspired touch. Bronze Edition floor mats - The package includes carpet floor mats embroidered with Bronze Edition branding. This visual package helps the aging Titan grab some attention and stand out from the crowd of newer trucks. The black and bronze color scheme works well on the Titan's body lines. Titan Loses Base S Trim for 2024 Along with the new Bronze Edition, Nissan also streamlines the Titan lineup for 2024. Both the half-ton Titan and heavier-duty Titan XD models no longer offer the entry-level S trim. On the standard Titan, the S was previously the base model with a starting MSRP of $42,140. With the S gone for 2024, the SV now serves as the new base Titan trim, causing the starting MSRP to increase $5240 to $47,665 for a rear-wheel-drive SV crew cab. That's a significant jump in base price, but compared to the outgoing 2023 SV, the new 2024 SV is only $120 more expensive. The higher PRO-4X and Platinum trims also see small price bumps for 2024. Losing the S takes away the Titan's sub-$40k starting price, moving it out of reach for some budgets. But the remaining SV, PRO-4X and Platinum trims continue offering good value compared to competitors. 2024 Titan XD Also Loses Base Model The heavy-duty Nissan Titan XD also says farewell to the entry-level S for the 2024 model year. This means the Titan XD SV crew cab 4x4 now starts at $53,825, up $3940 over the outgoing base model. When comparing 2023 and 2024 SV models though, the price change is negligible - just $120. The upper-end PRO-4X and Platinum XD trims increase only slightly as well for 2024. Titan Powertrain Remains Capable While dropping the base S trims, the rest of the 2024 Titan and Titan XD lineups are largely carryover from 2023, with the same engine, transmission, and towing capabilities. The standard Titan continues with its 5.6L Endurance V8 producing 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with part-time 4WD available. The V8 Endurance engine delivers strong acceleration and enough torque for towing up to 9,740 pounds when properly equipped. Available towing aids like an integrated brake controller and extendable tow mirrors make hauling heavy loads easier. The Titan XD steps up to a 5.6L Cummins turbocharged diesel V8. This engine churns out 555 lb-ft of torque, enabling heftier towing up to 11,000 poun
ds for the Titan XD. The Cummins turbodiesel is a $5,290 option. Titan's Off-Road Capability While not a hardcore off-roader like the Ford F-150 Raptor, the Titan and Titan XD do have credible off-road skills thanks to: 4WD systems - Both trucks offer part-time 4WD with low-range gearing for rugged traction. The Titan has 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD High modes, while the XD adds a 4WD Low range. Good ground clearance - The Titan boasts 9.7 inches of ground clearance, while the XD has 10 inches to traverse obstacles. Skid plates - Skid plates protect vital components like the oil pan and transfer case when traversing uneven terrain. Off-road tires - The 2024 Titan PRO-4X and Titan XD PRO-4X come with aggressive all-terrain tires as standard for increased traction. Advanced differentials - Both the Titan and Titan XD PRO-4X trims gain rear electronic locking differentials to optimize traction further in low-grip conditions. This improves capability in mud, sand and deep snow. Interior Technology and Convenience While aging, the Titan's interior still offers good utility and amenities: Ample cab space with available front captain's chairs User-friendly dash layout and controls 7-inch touchscreen with NissanConnect interface Available 9-inch touchscreen on top trims Integrated trailer brake controller Heated seats and steering wheel Proximity entry and push-button start Android Auto/Apple CarPlay smartphone integration Higher trims like the PRO-4X and Platinum add extras like leather upholstery, an excellent Fender audio system, and a rearview camera mirror for improved visibility. How Does the Titan Compare to Competition? The 2024 Nissan Titan faces stiff competition from America's best-selling trucks, including: Ford F-150 - The top-selling pickup offers endless build configurations and advanced technology like hybrid assistance and onboard generator options. More refined overall than the Titan. Chevy Silverado 1500 - Also offers wide model diversity from work truck to luxury cruiser. Has excellent trailering tech available. Interior looks dated next to newer trucks. Ram 1500 - Leads for interior luxury and ride comfort. Optional mild hybrid system improves powertrain refinement. Higher pricing on upper trims. Toyota Tundra - All-new redesign makes the 2023 Tundra very appealing with bolder styling, upgraded interior, and new iForce Max hybrid V6. The aging Titan can't match the model diversity and cutting-edge tech of its Detroit and Japanese competitors. But it retains virtues like strong V8 performance, available diesel power, roomy cab, competitive pricing, and good off-road skills. The new Bronze Edition also helps the 2024 Titan turn heads in the crowded truck segment. For work or adventure, it remains a compelling choice. Is the 2024 Nissan Titan a Good Truck to Buy? The 2024 Titan remains a very capable light-duty pickup even as one of the older designs in the class. There are some drawbacks though: Pros: Strong V8 and diesel engine options Smooth-shifting 9-speed transmission Up to 9,740 pounds max towing capacity Spacious, versatile crew cab design Good value pricing on mid-level trims New Bronze Edition adds style Cons: Dated exterior and interior styling Base price rises sharply for 2024 Lacks cutting-edge tech and engine options Ride comfort lags behind competitors Resale values typically lower If you desire modern infotainment and the latest driver aids, the Titan won't satisfy like a new Ram 1500 or Ford F-150. But drivers prioritizing capability and proven performance should still shortlist the 2024 Nissan Titan. 5 Key Questions about the 2024 Nissan Titan What are the Titan's engine options for 2024? Two engines carry over - a 5.6L V8 gas engine producing 400 hp, and a 5.6L Cummins turbodiesel V8 with 555 lb-ft of torque (Titan XD only). Does
the Titan offer a hybrid or electric model? Not at this time. Competitors like the F-150, Sierra 1500 and Tundra offer gas/electric hybrid models, but the Titan is gas or diesel only. An electric Titan is possible down the road. What's payload and towing capacity? Payload ranges from 1310 to 1680 lbs. Max towing tops out at 9,740 lbs for the gas V8 and 11,000 lbs for the XD diesel. How's the Titan's off-road capability? The PRO-4X trim has 4WD, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear differential for solid off-road performance. Should I buy the Titan or similar-priced F-150? The F-150 has advantages in technology and engine choice. But the Titan offers comparable capability and utility for less money when comparing mid-level trims. It remains competitive. Is the Nissan Titan Reliable? The aging Titan derives benefits from its tested design - J.D. Power awards it 4 out of 5 for dependability. Common positives and negatives for reliability include: Positives Proven, durable V8 engines Smooth-shifting 9-speed transmission Simple control layout with physical buttons Body/interior materials hold up well over time Potential Concerns Early issues with diesel engine stalling (now resolved) Some reports of problematic radiators Occasional faulty fuel gauges and sensors Varied brake rotor life depending on configuration Overall, the Titan offers industry-average or better predicted reliability, especially for the gas V8 models. Proper maintenance helps minimize any issues. How Does the 2024 Titan Compare to the Older Model? The 2024 Nissan Titan is not radically changed versus the outgoing 2023 model. Differences include: Dropped base S trim means higher entry price New Bronze Edition package for SV trim Slight price increases across remaining trims No other obvious equipment, tech, powertrain, or design changes With no refreshed exterior styling, reworked interior, or new powertrain options, the 2024 Titan only sees minor tweaks. Nissan seems to be keeping investment in the aging truck low as its market share declines. More dramatic changes would require a full redesign. Final Thoughts on the 2024 Nissan Titan The 2024 Titan remains a compelling choice in the light pickup category thanks to its strong engines, ample towing capabilities, comfortable cabins, and available off-road upgrades. Losing the base S does hurt affordability somewhat, but the SV still undercuts most competitors. While lagging behind in technology, the fundamental goodness of the Titan's capable chassis, proven powertrains and useful features like an integrated brake controller still satisfy core truck buyers. The new Bronze Edition also spices up styling. Shoppers seeking the latest tech or hybrid power should look elsewhere. But drivers who crave brawny V8 performance and diesel torque get a winning pickup in the 2024 Nissan Titan. It proudly carries its capable reputation into the new model year. #Wiack

#Wiack

Volunteer Sleuths Are Out Hunting for Your Stolen Car (NYT) At the end of a quiet residential street in north Portland, Titan Crawford took a calming drag off his cigarette, and then shuffled past the gutted shell of a stolen Nissan pickup truck and into the patch of hulk-filled woodlands beyond. For much of the past year, Mr. Crawford, 38, has led a growing network of volunteer sleuths who scour Portland’s streets, alleys and forests, racing against time in hopes of finding stolen vehicles before they end up shredded for parts. There is no shortage of work to be done. Vehicle thefts in Portland are on track to reach well over 10,000 this year, more than triple the number the city recorded a decade ago, part of a nationwide trend that accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic. In Portland, the brazenness of the crimes, inattention from the police and desperation of residents who suddenly find themselves missing one of their most valuable possessions have led many to take matters into their own hands. Similar groups have popped up and grown around the country as vehicle thefts have soared. Neighbors share pictures of license plates, keep watch during commutes to work and hunt online for reports of stolen vehicles. Nearly every day, the group, PDX Stolen Cars, helps a resident reconnect with a vehicle in Portland or the surrounding suburbs.
Nearly 4 million in U.S. cut from Medicaid, most for paperwork reasons (Washington Post) The notice arrived in an envelope stamped “important information,” telling Kristin Fortner she needed to prove that she and her husband still deserved Medicaid. She filled out the form within a week of receiving it this past winter and mailed it back. So she was perplexed by a phone call almost three months later from the Arkansas Department of Human Services alerting her that she had neglected to renew the couple’s Medicaid and, unless she sent the paperwork, their health insurance would end. Fortner quickly resubmitted the same form, this time in person. Except Arkansas already had cut them off. She discovered in May that her insurance had vanished as she tried to pick up a prescription for Suboxone, the medicine that helps her stay off opioids. Suddenly, she owed $380. Her Medicaid coverage, the pharmacy’s records showed, had expired. A 33-year-old waitress earning $3 an hour plus tips, Fortner walked out of the drugstore without the pills. She is among nearly 4 million Americans who have been lopped off Medicaid since the end of a pandemic-era promise that people with the safety-net health coverage could keep it, requiring every state to begin a herculean undertaking of sorting out who still belonged on the rolls. Three-fourths of these people have been removed because of bureaucratic factors. Such “procedural” cutoffs—prompted by renewal notices not arriving at the right addresses, beneficiaries not understanding the notices, or an assortment of state agencies’ mistakes and logjams—were a peril against which federal health officials had cautioned for many months as they coached states in advance on how best to carry out the unwinding.
Uruguay/Argentina Drought fallout (Foreign Policy) The ongoing drought that has plunged Uruguay into a water crisis in recent weeks is also projected to severely hurt neighboring Argentina’s agriculture sector as well as its GDP. Citing the drought, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered Argentina’s GDP forecast for 2023, projecting a contraction of 2.5 percent, a reversal of its previous forecast for 0.2 percent growth this year. Argentina is already struggling to curb massive inflation and repay its outstanding IMF debts. Meanwhile in Uruguay, consecutive years of low rainfall and poor management of a key reservoir have caused water levels to dwindle, worsening the quality of tap water around the capital of Montevideo to a level that may be unsafe for people with hypertension and other medical problems. The government has bought bottled water for some 500 thousand people and is working to engineer new access to water resources from a previously untapped river.
Germany used to be the world’s export powerhouse. Now, it’s not growing. What happened? (AP) The German economy is still failing to grow, figures showed Friday, as the country that should be the industrial powerhouse for all of Europe struggles with high energy prices, rising borrowing costs and a lagging rebound from key trading partner China. The International Monetary Fund forecast this week that Germany would be the globe’s only major economy to shrink this year, even with weak economic growth around the world amid rising interest rates and the threat of growing inflation. In Germany, the economy has been buffeted by several challenges. Above all, its long-term dependence on Russian natural gas to fuel industry backfired when the invasion of Ukraine led to the loss of most of Moscow’s supply and to higher costs for energy-intensive industries such as metals, glass, cars and fertilizer. Higher interest rates from the European Central Bank have weighed on construction projects that depend on borrowing.
Ukraine’s Stepped-Up Assault Grinds Forward, but Scale Is Unclear (NYT) Battles raged in southern Ukraine on Thursday, as Kyiv’s stepped-up offensive against the Russian occupation made small gains, according to Russian, Ukrainian and Western analysts and officials, but the scope of the assaults and their toll remained unclear. There was minimal, and sometimes contradictory, information about how many troops and armored vehicles Ukraine had committed so far to its attempt to punch holes through Russia’s daunting defensive network. Crucially, it was also unclear what kind of losses either side was suffering, in soldiers and weaponry. What is clear is that Ukraine has significantly ratcheted up its seven-week-old counteroffensive, along two southward thrusts apparently aimed at cities in the Zaporizhzhia region: Melitopol, near the Sea of Azov, and Berdiansk, to the east, on the Azov coast. In both cases, the Ukrainians have advanced only a few miles so far and have dozens of miles to go. In the short run, success would mean getting behind Russia’s defenses, where its forces would be far more vulnerable, and taking major towns farther south. Longer term, it would mean taking back Melitopol, a major transportation hub, or Berdiansk, an important port, or both—effectively cutting the Russian-occupied territory in half, complicating Moscow’s strategy and logistics.
U.S. to provide up to $345 million in military aid to Taiwan (Washington Post) The United States will provide Taiwan with up to $345 million in military assistance, using a similar presidential authority to the one in which it sends weapons to Ukraine, the White House announced Friday. The package comes as China continues efforts to increase its authority over democratically-governed Taiwan, which Beijing claims as part of its territory. “The drawdown includes self-defense capabilities that Taiwan will be able to use to bolster deterrence now and in the future,” Sue Gough, a Department of Defense spokesperson, said by email. Systems in the package “address critical defensive stockpiles, multi-domain awareness, anti-armor and air defense capabilities,” she added. The announcement follows complaints from the Taiwan defense ministry over delays in the delivery of U.S. arms that Taiwan already purchased. The new aid package marks the first time the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), which expedites the process of supplying arms and pulls directly from stockpiles, has been used for Taiwan. It has been used dozens of times for Ukraine, under a separate provision allowing for emergency support.
Aid group official warns that impasse at the UN on border crossing puts 4.1 million Syrians at risk (AP) An impasse at the United Nations over a border crossing with Syria’s last rebel-held enclave is putting 4.1 million Syrian there in danger, the president of the International Rescue Committee warned this week. David Miliband’s comments came more than two weeks after the U.N. Security Council failed to renew the mandate for the Bab al-Hawa border crossing between Syria and Turkey, which secures aid for Syrians in the enclave. The vast majority of people in northwestern Syria live in poverty and rely on aid to survive—a crisis that was further worsened by a devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria in February. The earthquake killed more than 50,000 people, including over 6,000 in Syria, according to the United Nations. The quake also displaced hundreds of thousands of others. The paralysis comes as donor fatigue has led to aid cuts in aid to both northwestern Syria and neighboring countries hosting millions of Syrian refugees who fled the ongoing conflict, now in its 13th year.
Unhappy With Right-Wing Leaders, Some Israelis Hatch Escape Plans (NYT) Naama Levin and her partner had always dreamed about taking a break from Israel and going on an extended vacation abroad. But they did not start making concrete plans until late last year, when Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power and formed a coalition with extreme right-wing and religiously conservative partners. In recent months, Netanyahu has put an ultranationalist who has been convicted of inciting anti-Arab racism in charge of national security, taken steps to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank and initiated an overhaul of the judicial system, angering secular Israeli Jews like Levin and setting off months of protests across the country. The passage of the new law was the last straw for some Israelis, who have been struggling with a high cost of living and underfunded schools. Businesses that help relocate corporations and families have seen a sharp uptick in demand in recent days. Financial advisers say they are being flooded with questions about how to move assets overseas and how to establish bank accounts abroad.
Jordan lawmakers move to criminalize some online speech. Rights groups accuse kingdom of censorship (AP) The lower house of Jordan’s parliament passed legislation Thursday to punish online speech deemed harmful to national unity, drawing accusations from human rights groups of a crackdown on free expression. The measure makes certain online posts punishable with months of prison time and fines. These include comments “promoting, instigating, aiding, or inciting immorality,” demonstrating “contempt for religion” or “undermining national unity.” It also punishes those who publish names or pictures of police officers online and outlaws certain methods of maintaining online anonymity. Lawmakers have argued that the measure, which amends a 2015 cybercrime law, is necessary to punish blackmailers and online attackers. But opposition lawmakers and human rights groups cautioned that the new law will expand state control over social media, hamper free access to information and penalize anti-government speech.
Aided by A.I. Language Models, Google’s Robots Are Getting Smart (NYT) A one-armed robot stood in front of a table. On the table sat three plastic figurines: a lion, a whale and a dinosaur. An engineer gave the robot an instruction: “Pick up the extinct animal.” The robot whirred for a moment, then its arm extended and its claw opened and descended. It grabbed the dinosaur. Until very recently, this demonstration, which I witnessed during a podcast interview at Google’s robotics division in Mountain View, Calif., last week, would have been impossible. Robots weren’t able to reliably manipulate objects they had never seen before, and they certainly weren’t capable of making the logical leap from “extinct animal” to “plastic dinosaur.” But a quiet revolution is underway in robotics, one that piggybacks on recent advances in so-called large language models—the same type of artificial intelligence system that powers ChatGPT, Bard and other chatbots. Google has recently begun plugging state-of-the-art language models into its robots, giving them the equivalent of artificial brains. The secretive project has made the robots far smarter and given them new powers of understanding and problem-solving.

Apple Canoo CEO Brings in Walmart As a Significant Part of the Company
In order to keep the company in good shape, the Apple Canoo CEO is making changes. He is bringing in Walmart as a "substantial portion" of the company. This will allow the Canoo CEO to focus on growing the business and improving its product.
Ulrich Kranz will report to Doug Field
Ulrich Kranz is a former executive with BMW. He was one of the key figures in developing the electric i3 and i8 vehicles.
After working for 30 years with BMW, he co-founded the startup Canoo Inc., which develops self-driving electric cars. In December, the company went public on the stock market. The company is now focusing on commercial vehicles.
Apple is working on its own electric vehicle program, which is known as Project Titan. Kranz will be a member of the massive team building the car. Although details on his job title have not been disclosed, Kranz will report to Doug Field, who is the head of the car project.
Apple has had multiple discussions with automakers, battery giants, and electric vehicle startups. The company has held talks with Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia.
Ulrich Kranz says he was "great friends" with Walton
According to a recent survey of the business cognoscentives, the Walmart x Canoo smack dab duplex has a lot of room for improvement. For instance, in the same year in which the company rolled out the new flagship store, the state of Arkansas suffered an estimated economic loss of $13 million. Its a shame, as the area is a magnet for a slew of startups and reno-o-philes. One triumph on the agenda is a new hotel and restaurant called the tavern. Moreover, the name of the hotel carries a secret code. The best part is that the locals are not snobs and are actually quite friendly. So, the best suited members of the tavern can have the same amenities as those in the main edison. And, it's a matter of time before the tavern and its neighbors find their way to a well-deserved tidal wave of new tenants.
Walmart will make up a "substantial portion" of Canoo
Walmart recently inked a deal to purchase 4,500 electric vehicles from Canoo. The move could be a major boost to Canoo's future sales. However, the deal comes at a cost.
While the deal represents a major step forward for Canoo, the company still faces a number of challenges. These include internal drama, legal disputes, and production delays. In fact, the company lost nearly $290 million in the first half of the year.
Canoo is also facing a SEC investigation. Previously, it had a deal with VDL Nedcar BV to produce electric vans for the Dutch automaker, but the deal collapsed. Now, the startup is working with a third party in Detroit to produce the vehicles.
Canoo recently secured a deal to build a multi-purpose platform for the U.S. Army. It also secured a contract to provide EVs to NASA.
Ulrich Kranz says he was "great friends" with Aquila
When Canoo CEO Tony Aquila came to the company in October 2021, he brought with him a new management team and a new vision. Aquila's private equity firm, AFV Partners, had invested $35 million in Canoo and he was ready to take the helm of the company. That money was crucial in propelling Aquila into the top role.
Aquila's team included former Walmart executives Rob and Alice Walton, who are the major shareholders of the company. They also included Kranz, who had been the chief executive until Aquila was hired. Although the names of the three executives are not on the agreement between Walmart and Canoo, it's clear that Aquila's involvement has left a mark on the company's future.
The company is still in the early stages of development, with a pipeline of consumer orders and a small contract with NASA. It has also announced a deal with the U.S. Army, but it's unclear if the company will ever produce cars that can go on the road.

Supply Chain Brief: Vehicle Production Disruptions BLUF: Vehicle manufacturers continue to see part shortages, unfinished vehicles remain parked inoperable, fed rate hikes increases and vehicle price hikes to impact sales. The Nissan Motor Company's U.S. sector announced that it will be cutting production days on the manufacturing of Titan and Frontier pickup trucks and Altima sedans due to "supply chain disruptions related to ongoing semiconductor chip shortages in the industry." Volkswagen reports that chip shortages have created "backlogs" causing many 2022 models to be backordered until 2023. Volkswagen indicated that due to vehicle manufacturers' inability to place bulk orders comparable to the tech industry, their ability to negotiate lower cost and assured-availability chips is impacted. They elaborated that it "is no longer enough to rely on Tier 1 suppliers" and to obtain chips they are seeking more direct sources to include "mining operators". Ford reported that they "expect the chip issue to continue into" and "through" 2023 adding that even then there will be no "significant relief". Ford has more than "40,000" vehicles awaiting chips and other parts that remain unavailable due to shortages. Ford expects most of these inoperable vehicles to be completed in the next two months but has meanwhile scaled back production on future models. Toyota has begun providing only one electronic keyfob per new vehicle sale while adding a mechanical "valet" key as a backup. Toyota promised that in a future year, an electronic key would be delivered to buyers once chip supply disruptions level out. Hyundai, Ford, & GM have announced plans to begin production of their own chips, some as early as 2025. Tesla has largely avoided most chip based disruptions due to a "pioneering" mitigation effort to in-source semiconductor manufacturing. In-sourcing is a movement by "OEMs to maintain control over vital parts of their supply chains and reduce their dependency on external suppliers and influence from other industries". Debrief: Xinaxis, a supply chain management firm, reported that the chip shortage would last until 2027. Som...(CLASSIFIED, more at link in bio)

I Bought A Car Perfect For Car Camping!
