Global Conflict Brief: Russia/Ukraine/U.S. President Biden has authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied long-range missiles to strike targets within Russia, marking a significant shift in U.S. policy. Putin in September warned that "aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state [Ukraine], but with the participation or support of a nuclear state [U.S.]" would "be considered as their joint attack on the Russian Federation". The warning signaled the willingness to use nuclear weapons if the U.S. were to assist Ukraine in attacking within Russian territory.  Debrief: This decision comes amid escalating tensions, including Russia's extensive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure and the deployment of North Korean troops to support Russian forces. When the U.S. supplied short range weapons to Ukraine with guardrails in June, Russia sent nuclear submarines to Cuba. Russia naval ships including the missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the nuclear sub Kazan, the oil tanker Pashin and the salvage tug Nikolai Chiker are enroute at this time. The U.S. intelligence community assessed at the ti...(CLASSIFIED, get briefs and analysis in real-time unredacted by joining at www.graymanbriefing.com)

2nd Amendment Brief: Illinois A permanent injunction was issued on November 8th against the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), blocking enforcement of the 2023 act’s prohibitions against the sale and distribution of so-called “assault weapons”, handgun magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, or long gun magazines with capacity in excess of 15 rounds. The ruling also blocks enforcement of the act’s registration requirements and penalties for submitting false information. The judge issuing the injunction stayed his own ruling for 30 days, to allow the state to appeal. In his 168-page ruling, Judge Stephen McGlynn wrote, “PICA is an unconstitutional affront … and must be enjoined. The government may not deprive law-abiding citizens of their guaranteed right to self-defense as a means of offense.” Later in the opinion, h...(CLASSIFIED, get briefs in real-time unredacted by joining at www.graymanbriefing.com)

2nd Amendment Brief: Connecticut In a recent (October) legal proceeding before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Connecticut state attorneys argued that certain firearms, including semi-automatic hunting rifles, are not protected under the Second Amendment. Attorney Joshua Perry, representing the Connecticut Attorney General's office, contended that the Second Amendment safeguards firearms commonly used for self-defense but does not extend this protection to hunting rifles. This argument emerged during a lawsuit filed by the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) and co-plaintiff Toni Theresa Spera, challenging Connecticut's post-Sandy Hook legislation that bans the sale of firearms classified as "assault weapons." The plaintiffs assert that these laws infringe upon their Second Amendment rights. In response, Perry referenced the Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, which upheld a ban on M16 rifles, to support the state's position. Opposing th...(CLASSIFIED, get briefs in real-time unredacted by joining at www.graymanbriefing.com)
