All the anime I watched this last year - 2024
Not everything technically came out this year, since I've been also trying to find anime I may have missed out on, lesser known shoujo series, and english dubs that I can listen to while I work. But this is a comprehensive list of anime I watched this year.
Jujutsu Kaisen S2 - not gonna lie, it was meh. Everything at the end felt like it was done for shock value without anything compelling behind it beyond "Let's get these two to fight!"
Ancient Magus Bride - I think I finished off the season and some of the OVAs? I dunno, I just enjoy it. I hope there's more to come.
Apothecary Diaries - Can't wait for the next season!! Maomao and Jinshi forever!!
My New Boss is Goofy - This anime was so healing and soothing. Truly a blessing to watch.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - Does this count? IDK but it was good. A nice bookend to the series as a whole.
16bit Sensation: Another Layer - Kinda educational, kinda silly, I loved it all! Yes, even the random aliens.
Spy x Family S2 - Can't wait for the next season in October! Its all good fun.
A Sign of Affection - It'll give you cavities its so sweet! It also makes you think about how amazing people can be in the face of disabilities and language barriers.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - I love this anime so much!! Frieren is my fav and I haven't enjoyed a character in a long time as much as I have her!
Bocchi the Rock! - The Cute Girls doing Cute Things genre isn't dead! Hurray! All kidding aside, it was so full of heart and raw emotion, I really enjoyed it.
Delicious in Dungeon - Just an exceptional anime!
Cardfight! Vanguard Overdress - I'm so behind in Vanguard that I'm kinda falling out of it but you gotta appreciate an anime that takes a road trip from New York to Texas in a day like it was possible.
The Demon Prince of Momochi House - This one was good fun! A solid shoujo, cute/attractive characters and a story that is nicely filled out and completed.
7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy - I appreciate a good solid enemies to lovers, plus the time loop thing made it kind of interesting.
The Vampire Dies in No Time - If you miss watching Gintama, its that but in modern Yokohama with Vampire Hunters instead of samurai. That said, it was a good time.
Noragami - They don't make anime like they used to. I really like just a scrungly little guy trying to make it big. I'm sad they set it up for another season but then didn't go through with it. It was good while it lasted and the op themes are now on my regular jpop playlist.
Touken Ranbu Kai Kyoden - I really love my swords, ok? I love them SO MUCH I will watch anything that they have available to watch of them!!! Also, anything Oda Nobunaga is just interesting from a history perspective.
Mr. Villain's Day Off - THIS HOLE WAS MADE FOR MEEEEEEE I wish there was more of this anime. I even started collecting the manga. I just love it SO much! Sentai but from the villain's perspective BUT his work-life balance is impeccable and also he loves pandas!! I aspire to be like him... It's also just a good wind down anime since its very episodic and calming.
Vampire Dormitory - It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I do like the genre of "girl pretending to be a boy" but I feel like the reasoning wasn't that convincing in this one.
Wind Breaker - Sakura is such a good boy!! Bros just being guys!! It's fun. I may have covered my eyes during the really violent scenes...
The World is Still Beautiful - OK I technically haven't finished it, but I am enjoying it. Its just...ya know...kinda dated...But I do like a strong female protagonist and she does not disappoint.
I'm giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness - So cute, so wholesome. What's with these yinyang hair'd protags all of a sudden? lol It's a gag anime at its core, tho. Which isn't bad but it also means it doesn't really get anywhere.
An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride - I have my issues with this series (like, Nephy having no motivations or personality) but overall its cute and I enjoyed it a lot!
A Condition Called Love - Ace girl crash course into romance with an obsessive boyfriend BUT ITS CUTE AND GOOD ok? ok. Also, the op theme is a bop
Inu Yasha S6 - I never saw the end so I figured now's a good time. Still working through the final act.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - I think this was the 3rd arc? IDK whatever its a good solid battle shounen and Tokito is cute. Kanroji is also good, we like strong ladies in this house!
Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord - Just silly good fun with a protag that I really enjoyed. The ending was satisfying, too.
Senpai is an Otokonoko - I love these three babies. A real OT3!! I wish there was more, tbh.
The Elusive Samurai - I read some of the manga but it felt kinda weird after a while and I'm glad the anime toned it back a little. That being said, I love this anime SO MUCH! The op and ed are absolute bops, the animation is gorgeous! The story is so compelling! I hope they have more seasons in the future.
Laid-Back Camp - I've only gotten through S1 so far. A good anime to wind down with after watching something heavier. Warning, you will get very hungry and then very sleepy watching this anime and/or want to go on a vacation to see Mt. Fuji.
Natsume's Book of Friends - Technically, I haven't caught up but I watched like 5 seasons of it and its a new fave. Just a sad boy who can see yokai but man does it know how to punch you in the feels. I feel like I need also switch to a gag anime after a few episodes because of how emotional it gets.
Your Name - SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!!! GOD!!! Freaky Friday but also [SPOILERS].
Dragon Goes House-Hunting - Just a good, silly, light-hearted anime that doesn't take itself too seriously. I love Dearia, my favorite deadpan elf demon lord real estate agent.
After School Hanako-kun - These were just silly but it did make me hype for the next season of Toilet Bound Hanako-kun. It was nice to see the characters interacting again.
Nina the Starry Bride - SUCH A GOOD SHOUJO! The drama!! The Intrigue!! I will scream if it doesn't get another season!!
The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor - The characters and their dynamic are really good but this anime tried to be smarter than it actually was and it kind of falls apart at the end.... Was it good? Eh. Did I enjoy it? Yes.
Demon Lord 2099 - I love Veltol with all my heart. I didn't really like the school subplot much but overall I enjoyed this anime and all the characters.
Yakuza Fiancé: Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii - Toxic yakuza romance. Its spicy, its action-packed, it's about high schoolers which I have a hard time believing. Overall very good. I didn't think I'd like it but I couldn't stop watching.
Acro Trip - If you like magical girls, this is a must watch!!! Its so funny and silly and full of heart!!!
I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History - Its got some interesting ideas and enjoyable characters. I found it a little bit, "where is this going?" towards the end.
Blue Exorcist - Ok, so I only watched S1 when I think S3 has just come out but I just didn't know it was good. I honestly cringe at bible lore but the story is solid and the characters are all likeable and fun. Also, I really like Rin's little fluffy demon tail.
Ranma 1/2 (2024)- I grew up with the original so seeing the remake be so high quality made it be really special to me. Just a comedy classic!
Dan Da Dan - I can see why its so popular. Maybe its a little too *waves hands vaguely* but I'll keep watching.
My Happy Marriage - The first few episodes were so dang boring but then there were monsters and super powers or something. I'm still on the fence of whether I like it or not but I do want to see where it goes.
Things I didn't finish/fell off of but maybe one day I will get back to them...?
Sengoku Youko - Maybe I will continue this one day. I like the characters/character designs, i just don't feel compelled to keep watching, ya know?
Bye Bye, Earth - Another one that I could continue if there wasn't anything else. It was interesting and I like the art style but maybe too melodramatic for me.
Black Clover - Just a real standard battle shounen. Maybe I'll get back into it.
Delico's Nursery - Ok, it was kinda funny and enjoyable but also so so silly and melodramatic. Maybe I'll finish it when I get bored.
Dahlia in Bloom: Crafting a Fresh Start with Magical Tools - Its cute. I don't actually remember why I stopped watching? I'll get back into it some day.
Shaman King - I heard mixed things about it, but really I just watched it to kill some time. Maybe I'll finish it.
Stuff I dumped after a few episodes:
Tsukimichi -Moonlight Fantasy- - IDK how this has 2 seasons. Its the most milktoast story with the most milktoast protag I bothered watching in a while.
A Girl and her Guard Dog - I generally try and watch shoujo anime when I can, but a 20-something year old posing as a high schooler was just too cringe. Didn't even finish the first episode.
Solo Leveling - dumped it after a handful of episodes cuz it just didn't grab my interest. There just wasn't a character I wanted to root for.
Konohana Kitan - I'll be real, I don't remember watching it. Looks like I jumped ship after half an episode, so it probably was just not my cup of tea.
Laughing Under the Clouds - As much as I like samurai, this wasn't for me. Maybe not enough strong ladies or something. IDK.
The Tale of Outcasts - I was hoping it would be more like Ancient Magus Bride but instead it was mostly gross old men abusing a child and a demon furry that saves her...? I guess? I didn't vibe with it.
My Deer Friend Nokotan - ok, I'll be real. I watched it for the memes but I just didn't feel the need to keep watching
Why Does Nobody Remember Me in this World - I thought it was a super compelling premise but the characters were so...its just another boring harem. The crossdresser wasn't even convincing in the least! The whole thing was just disappointing.
Dang, I watched a lot of stuff this past year, didn't I? I might try to keep track of these sorts of things more often, especially to draw more fanart and be vocal about what I'm enjoying.

I did NOT expect the new season of Kimi ni Todoke to have hour-long episodes. I got a bit angry after seeing there's only five of them, but if each of them lasts 60-70 minutes, isn't that like 14 or 15 normal length episodes? 😳😳😳

Cherry Magic Anime Ep 12 (Finale) Stray Thoughts
Last week, the boys made a right mess of themselves. Adachi went to visit Nagasaki to scout out the new position, and send a letter to Kurosawa while he was there. Thankfully, Kurosawa is a simp, and the letter accomplished its job. Kurosawa went to Nagasaki to see Adachi, and finally got to hear Adachi express clearly how much Kurosawa means to him. We left the two of them in bed, and Adachi likely no longer has his powers. Meanwhile, Tsuge tried to support Minato from a distance, but Minato chased after him and the two properly connected.
Thank you, Cherry Magic Anime, for confirming that Adachi could hear Kurosawa’s thoughts during their first encounter.
I like that this version dwelled in the loss of Adachi’s power, and what it meant for Adachi. I especially like that he asserts that it has little to do with the definition of a virgin and the physical realities of sex, and instead has to do with Adachi’s willingness to be open and vulnerable with Kurosawa.
My man Kurosawa is crying because he knows he’s loved and it’s what he deserves.
Okay, Adachi saying that Kurosawa’s warmth and scent are stronger now that he’s not hearing his thoughts is such an excellent detail. Good job, Cherry Magic Anime.
Hell yeah, Adachi! You should take on this new project that excites you, and also accept the inherent promotion! So happy that he’s serious about trusting Kurosawa and speaking openly about how excited he is about this opportunity. I like that he recognizes that his relationship with Kurosawa has made him braver.
Very funny that Adachi forgot about the power and that’s how Tsuge found out. I also like seeing Tsuge be impressed with Adachi taking a major step forward before him.
I have missed Fujisaki. I’m glad we got a little bit of her.
Oh boy. Adachi is being worn out from all of the difficulties that come with his new responsibilities.
I love Adachi going back to Tokyo to talk with Kurosawa about his anxieties. Recognizing that something bad could happen to either of them and no one would know about them is actually so frightening, and a genuine gay reality.
Adachi saying they should live together and Kurosawa putting a ring on it feels like the right balance for them.
Look at that splash of domesticity for both couples at the end as a treat.
They got married!! Fujisaki won!
What a lovely stinger at the end.
Final Verdict: 9, Highly Recommended. I really like this version of the entire cast. They’re far more flawed in a way that makes them a little less likable, but it also makes me empathize with all of them a lot more. I like that Rokkaku was such a dick early on to Adachi, so it lands when he finally starts to respect him properly and remember his name. I love how mundane Cherry Magic as a story is, despite the magic power. I absolutely loved this version, and it and the Thai version will stay on my recommendations list for a really long time. The Thai version may be the best show of the Cherry Magic stories, but this one has my favorite versions of the characters.
