Summary:

The tall one attacks without ever taking his hands out of his pockets: glowing pyramids sparkle into existence beside him and shoot into the Neighbors, leaving smoking craters and knocking them sideways, forcing them to turn away from Chika. Inukai is running around to the side with that almost skipping gait as he shoots so that the front one's attention is divided. And then like a flash of black lightning the third man arrives, cleaving the Neighbor's eye in two with a long sword. It falls like thunder. It's all over within what feels like less than a minute. Three monsters the size of buildings, and they didn't stand a chance. They have to be Border agents. She never knew Border agents could do that.

On the surface, Ninomiya's shuffled squad seems unfavorably imbalanced, having three snipers, but it's not like Chika has to operate as a sniper. With Hound and Meteor, Chika has the option to fight as a shooter. In fact, they could end up using the strategy they never got to use with Hyuse, with Ninomiya shielding Chika while she blasts everyone away with raw firepower. Alternatively, if there's a situation that calls for more technique over power, like with composite bullets, Chika can take over the role Tsuji and Inukai usually have on Ninomiya squad, and guard Ninomiya with her impenetrable shields while he does the shooting... Wow, Ninomiya really said "Fuck game balance," when he chose his first two squad members.

[spoilers for world trigger season 3; i know it's been out for like 2 years now but ik that WT is likely getting a new audience]

the beauty of the b rank wars arc is how it completely goes full circle

obviously, one of the more blatant full circle moments is tamakoma-2 basically doing a revenge match against ninomiya's squad

but here's something even more poetic: the way tamakoma-2 finish their first b rank war match is literally the same way they beat their last one:

with osamu making the final blow from behind (with a shooter trigger too!).

I made a thing! well, three things actually, but they're here and ready to go! in preparation for my World Trigger fanfic, I created a stats page, character traits page, and a rankings page, mostly so I know where teams stand for the chapters (whenever I get to writing that is)

actually? i bet Ninomiya is an angry cryer. few people have actually witnessed this because it takes a lot to get him to that point, but it's true. Azuma became very familiar with this tendency of his when he was in his squad

yeah the pacing in s1 is awkward, but they get it together later! my watori faves are: jin (me when i’m predictable), tachikawa, kageura (you’ll meet him later and tbh his energy reminds me of grimmantha), yuuma, chika, konami, karasuma, hyuse (meet him later), ema, ninomiya squad

honestly kageura is probably going to be a problem for me unfortunately. i love insane people as an insane person. but tachikawa......mira help me. HELP me mira. i saw him and my body took a screenshot. a virgo man can be something so personal to one lil pisces...

so far, i really like everyone. kageura thrills and terrifies me both because i know he's gonna be a problem. i've also squinted long and hard at azuma. he's very handsome, giving uchiha.

World Trigger chapter 231

Ok first thing I have to say: I LOVED THIS CHAPTER!

The way the other squads were confused by Suwa squad's sudden improvement and how some of them quickly realized that this was some Osamu strategy, I loved every single one of those moments.

Katori all happy because of the wins in a row of their team, so adorable! Without mention Suwa, proud of his squad and pretty much saying "fuck them all, we're on fire!"

It is very interesting to see how the improvement of one squad can motivate others to seek other ways to improve too. They don't want to be the best one, but improve themselves! (well, maybe with some exceptions aka Ninomiya lmao)

Karasawa and Osamu are so much alike haha, it's funny. Usually they go along the same line of reasoning, no wonder Karasawa is always expecting great things from Osamu. They could have a great teacher-student dynamics I guess.

But the last page worried me a little bit! Chika doesn't look okay. Being on Ninomiya's squad sucks tbh. He's arrogant and perfectionist, it must be very hard on her to be around him (not to mention the whole weird situation of her brother and Hatohara that must be uncomfortable between them). I wonder what exactly is going on, but I'm pretty sure that Yuzuru will be there to defend her of Ninomiya's rough words.

Overall, I must admit that I'm kinda happy this part of the arc (battle simulation exercise) is coming to an end because it's getting a little tiresome. But before that I still want to see more of the opinions of A-rank judges. They are so much fun!

Any thoughts on the old Azuma squad with Kako, Ninomiya and Miwa?

this is probably the dynamic that cancels each other out the most. they're all kind of disasterous, but if you shove them together they negate each other enough to be an actual fucntional squad. that said? definitely the squad that would implode if stuck in, say, an elevator for fifteen minutes. ninomiya thinks this is his own personal hell. kako thinks it's her own personal heaven. azuma masters zen meditation because it's the only way to deal with the stress of this squad. tsukimi videos the funniest fights and sends them to the operator group chat, who all give her money and sweets to compensate for her suffering. miwa is over here in the corner, talking to his dead sister under his breath because boy never got grief counseling and needs to convince himself border is worth it. they crush everyone else in rank wars while kako and ninomiya hold a cool pose contast that only one of them is aware of. miwa and azuma strengthen their mother/daughter bond via the power of MEAT.

rereading ch 106. love this sequence at the end here.

ninomiya asks mikumo to provide proof he knows what rinji's plans were. mikumo says he doesnt have physical proof but he can offer confirmation if you let him look at a map.

but then mikumo says he thinks hatohara had her own reasons for wanting to go to the neighborhood, and ninomiya just leaves!

he did NOT want to hear that. the funniest thing is he didnt even bother asking mikumo for the fucking proof.

The first time I took note of Hiyami was during the away mission test where she, um, pilots Kou?

What's striking here is that there's no reason she couldn't just... say these things without being asked. She could just give her thoughts! But this is an operator's job, and this is a captain's job. She needs her squad to look a certain way. You could argue it's for the sake of the other team members' confidence in their captain, but she's still being weird.

We also see her focused on appearances in ch 236, when she calls a secret meeting in full view of Ninomiya to tell everyone to act Regular about Hatohara.

Now, I don't think this was just for Ninomiya's sake. I think Hiyami is upset about losing her friend and is coping with it in just the most bizarre possible way: by getting her whole squad to put on a permanent play where they live in the world where nobody's upset about it.

I think it's fun that this act is what convinces Mikumo that Ninomiya is Uniquely Weird And Emotional About Hatohara. Like he's not wrong! But he just happens to be observing the one guy who hasn't been coached by Hiyami to Act Casual. Forever.

for the animanga ask game: in world trigger do you have a favorite squad and rank war?

Hi, anon! Thanks for sending this. Nice question you got there. :)) Yes, I have a favorite squad and that's Ikoma Squad. I really love the vibes within the team. The members are all very likable, especially Ikoma and Oki. Oki is a very calm and collected sniper and I get to appreciate him more on the Selection arc as one of the groupmates of Mikumo. Ikoma is very funny and very unique as a captain. I mean, who talks about nonsensical things right before a rank war? Only this squad and I love them for that. (*˘︶˘*).｡.:*♡ As for the rank war, I definitely looked forward to the 8th and final round being animated and I think Toei did a good job with that. The first reason, Ikoma Squad is there (although they were totally annihilated lol). Second, this round became a huge boost to the improvement of Osamu and Chika. I loved this rank war because it's not Yuuma that became the center of Tamakoma Second's offense to defeat Ninomiya Squad. Osamu really did great in this rank war and so is Chika. Hyuse also did a great job in holding up considering his very unlucky location. He also became Chika's support when she was still hesitating to shoot people. Each member did their role splendidly which lead to a hands-down overall win over other powerful squads. They totally won this rank war because there was no team that underestimated Osamu, especially Ninomiya Squad, and yet they still won. They even went so far as to pretend that Osamu is not a threat to them but too bad, lies don't work on Yuuma. XD Damn, reminiscing the scenes made me want to rewatch that final round. (٥⁀▽⁀ )
