Lloyd Garmadon is the son of Firelord Garmadon. When he was born and, thanks to several monks and traditions, declared the Avatar, his father kicked him out of the palace. Now he roams the streets at the ripe age of eleven, avoiding his family and people in general, when he wasn't stealing from them of course. Kai and Nya Smith were abandoned by their parents when they were young, and were taken in by Master Wu at a Tea Shop. Their lives were somewhat normal, calm even, until one day, Kai learned why he had always felt so different from those around. Jay Walker, adopted son of some tinkerers, always knew he was a different firebender than his peers and classmates. Because of this, he liked to keep himself out of sight, but someday wishing he could be apart of somthing big, something that would find use for him. Zane Julien and Cole Brookestone used their talents in Waterbending and Earthbending to win money, lots of it, at the local brawls. They lived with eachother since Zane had no parents, and Cole ran away from his. They were pretty much brothers, but always wished for a larger family, since they never fit in with those around them.

It's weird to think that with Jordana being a teenager in the middle of a revenge journey and Cinder being an adult who is at most 20 years old who likes to beat up kids, that leaves Jay as the second oldest (probably the less... immature if you compare him to the other two) in the Wolf Clan after the 60-year-old tiger.

Ninjago Avatar the Last Airbender AU

There has been a lack of these in the Ninjago fandom and it personally offends me.

Background to get out of the way: these are characters existing in the Avatar universe. The gaang have their adventure which affects the ninja leading them to meeting each other.

Cole

Cole lives in the Fire Nation as a noble.

Jk, he lives in the Earth Kingdom. He lives in Gaoling and attends Master Yu's Earthbending Academy. He has a lot of pressure to succeed and do well because his nonbending father Lou shows him off. Lou does a lot of community theatre, but doesn't have much time for Cole. Cole and his father were heartbroken after his mother's death. She died helping a small village fight the Fire Nation. They're distant and barely know each other.

He wishes to have more value and help people with his Earthbending just like his mother. He never expresses this to Lou, knowing his father wouldn't let him. He seeks out ways to help people and runs into a man who goes by Wu. He's young, in his early 30s. He offers Cole to join the White Lotus. (but cole doesn't know it's the white lotus)

Cole talks with his father, trying to bond with him. They break out into an argument, causing Cole to run away with Wu. They're searching for more White Lotus members, now that news of the Avatar returning has given them hope.

Jay

He lives with his parents in a more industrial part of the Fire Nation. His parents work in a factory, so Jay is often left alone at home playing by himself. He likes to tinker with gadgets and taught himself how to bend lightning. (Jay has some weird thing where he can't do normal fire, but can do lightning. It's because he's always wanted to power things, so his brain is just wired that way. In his teen years he tries to undo it, but can't) He's insecure as he can't bend fire like a normal person is viewed as a freak. He's talkative and a little cuckoo as he talks to doodles he made and pretends they're friends.

Overall, he has a nice life with his parents, completely clueless of being adopted.

It all changes when he meets this weird dude from the colonies and this other buff dude from the colonies. One of the dudes, the one with the mustache is really obsessed with paisho. They keep helping him out and being friends. He learns their names are Kenji and the buff one is Gen.

One night there's this serious mood in the air. Jay decides to play paisho and he learns the pairs real names. He soon learns about the Order of the White Lotus. Wu does some really dubious thing, offering Jay a chance to learn engineering at a higher level. He doesn't tell Jay the cause and purpose of the White Lotus yet.

When Ed and Edna hear about the offer they're ecstatic. They hope Jay will get rich and help them. They let Wu steal Jay away.

Zane

Zane lives in the North Pole. He is chill. His father died recently, so he's depressed, but he's doing alright. He desires to help people beyond the North Pole. He's skilled in bending water, as he trained under Pakku for years. Pakku can tell Zane has a desire to help people. Zane doesn't vibe with other people from his own Nation and is very awkward around them. Pakku decides to send Zane to Wu, knowing he'll be better there.

Zane is sad about leaving his home. He finds Cole and Jay very nice, but weird. He has no idea why they can't talk about missions in front of Jay. Zane finds the Earth Kingdom odd, and hopes Wu comes back from his trip to the Fire Nation.

Kai & Nya

Kai is a blacksmith who lives in the countryside of the Fire Nation with his sister. They don't know why their mother is and Ray is serving in the war. Kai is a firebender, while Nya is a waterbender. They live in the Fire Nation as their appearance is more Fire Nation than Water Tribe. Kai is no master of firebending, only knowing tricks to help him with blacksmithing. Nya, is worse off, as she can barely move water without getting angry and giving up.

Kai is angry and wants the war to end, so his father may come home. He feels comfortable being a recluse in the forge, whereas Nya goes to school. They both work hard at hiding their Water Tribe heritage. It's Kai who goes greater lengths than Nya.

Kai is focused on making money so they both can survive. He wants to wait for his father to come back. He spends most of his time in the forge. Nya likes to read about inventions and breakthroughs, but can't work on her craft as she lives in the countryside.

They get visited by a strange man and are annoyed with him for wasting their time. I supposed the they in this case is just Kai. Kai is annoyed at this strange man from the colonies browsing his workshop.

When Nya comes back from school and the man sees her he's intrigued. (As in Wu has a really good hunch)

One night Nya wakes up detecting an intruder. Kai rushes in to fight against the intruder. The intruder is very good, he extinguishes Kai's bending quickly and much better at wielding a weapon than Kai. Nya panics and does a surprise attack with her water on the intruder. Kai uses the distraction and tries to knock him out. The intruder reveals themselves as the man from earlier. He begs them to join the Order of the White Lotus. Wu recognizes they have great potential to be powerful benders. He tells them their mission and what they do. Nya joins because she's sick of hiding her waterbending and wishes to improve. (She ends up getting tutored by Zane) Kai joins out of fear that Wu would spread their true heritage. He doesn't want to get killed. They both go on a boat to the colonies, awaiting to meet with the group.

The meet up

The five all become a group, very unsure of what Wu is planning. Nya is the happiest, as she is being trained by Zane and improving at a very fast speed. Cole is enjoying himself much more than his time at home, but he and Zane agree that they haven't done anything substantial. Kai is the most suspicious of Wu. Wondering why he'd get a group of five together. Why would he do this? What does he want? Kai is snooping when he's not getting training with Wu. Wu is a firebender so he trains under him directly. Jay spends most of his time playing around. (Wu can't lightning bend. Wu knows most in the Fire Nation Royal Family can. He also knows only one other person outside of this, but it's due to other factors)

Cole and Zane join Kai on inspecting their living quarters. They find a bunch of scrolls on the Spirit World. At dinner they bring this to Wu's attention. Jay figures out he's being lied to. (And doesn't care) Nya is pissed. Wu comes clean, saying the Spirit thing is a side project. He wants them alive to fight on the side of the Avatar. He says the Avatar will have an army, but they need ninja. He wants to train them to be ninjas.

So….. my holidays are almost at an end, and being the procrastinator I am, I’ve decided that in the next couple of days I’ll be spam posting some random ninjago au ideas that have been bouncing around my head for a while. These are mostly just brainstorms, new oc characters and plot points that I may or may not write. I’m mostly posting the au’s so that I can make ongoing art around the au and its characters as well as just getting the ideas out there and not just letting them rot in my sketchbooks ^~^

*Bruise kids au

A.K.A Cole and Jay accidentally adopt three kids, Lily(4), Morgan(6) and Riley(13) as a group project, while struggling to keep their ninja identities a secret from them. When family secrets from Jay’s past are uncovered, though, how will Jay and Cole explain their roles as element masters to the kids? This au is set right after Skybound and explores the unrequited?:) bruise dynamic we saw in skybound. Its sole purpose is to fulfil my desire for bruise related family fluff :) and to see Jay live the girl dad experience, because why does everyone else but Jay get to be a mentor/ parental figure but him?

A.K.A I just wanna see dark/ morally grey Jay be the master of the skies and have an epic sky battle with Nadakhan. A Skybound Au, where Nadakhan manages to capture all the ninja in his djin blade, including Nya, after she refuses to marry him. Jay, however, evades capture and manages to convince the crew of Misfortune's keep to join him. Jay reminds them that Nadakahn is only interested in himself and that he will betray them when they are useless to him. Seeing that his crew have turned against him Nadakhan flees into the sky, taking his djin blade, and Jay's friends with him. In this au, the only way to return all the souls that were stolen by Nadakhan is to strike him with his own djin blade. So as the new captain of the Misfortune's keep, Jay embarks on a sky voyage to save his friends and put a stop to Nadakhan's destruction. But can Jay stay focused on his true goal? Or will this become a journey of revenge, seeing our hero hellbent on destroying anyone who gets in his way?

So…. this plot isn't exactly an original, it’s more of a mashup of ATLA and Ninjago, ‘cause I was curious how each Ninjago character would fit into the ATLAverse.

 

Avatar Lloyd lives with his Uncle Wu in the Earth Kingdom, and works in his tea shop beside Earth bender- tournament champion and part-time jazz dancer Cole Brookestone. Lloyd soon learns that his father, banished to the spirit world, has found a means to control the spirits, and plans on releasing them into the mortal world as revenge for his banishment. Desperate to grow in elemental and spiritual power to stop his father Lloyd, alongside Wu and Cole, venture across the globe to help Lloyd master all four elements. Having mostly mastered Earth, Lloyd and his companions set out a path to travel to the fire nation, water tribes and finally to the air nomad temples. On the journey Lloyd meets the hot tempered blacksmiths, Kai and Nya, accident prone  (but skilled) inventor Jay and architects Zane and Pixal, as well as a mysterious master of air.

Backstory 15

Voyage of Destiny's Bounty Part 1

1- The letter

In 90 AAG, Wu got a letter from Misako telling him about Lloyd. She thinks he might be an air bender and is worried about his safety. In her letter, she asks Wu to go get Lloyd and bring him to Ninjago, where he would be safe from the fire nation.

Wu decided to go and take Kai with him, but leves Nya with the Ninjago royal family as she is too young. They get a ship called the Destinie's Bounty and set sale for the colonies where Lloyd lives.

2 - Kiyoshi Island

Their first stop after leaving Ninjago is Kiyoshi Island. They need supplies and directions. They stop in a village called Lek and meet with the local chief Lyet and Leader Kyoshi warriors Pixel.

Pixel is intrigued by this new fighting style and wants to learn it. Unfortunately, her duties as the leader of her village's kyoshi warriors keep her from leaving her island with her Destiny's Bounty.

3 - Junkyard

On their way to the colonies, they were attacked by the Soto pirate. They were able to get way, but the Destiny Bounty was damaged, and they needed to make it to a port to repair the ship.

They stopped in the port town of Xiǎo Zhēn in the South Isla colony for repairs. Wu hired Ed and Eda to do them and they brought Jay with them.

Jay and Kai end up hanging out, and kai tells him about his family, bending, and Spinjitsu, and Jay is fascinated by it all. He talks to Wu about spinjitsu and asks him to teach him. Wu happy agrees and invites him on their voyage.

4- Omashu

Their next stop was Omashu, where Wu met with King Bumei, as his a member of the White Lotus. Bumei agrees to help them and give them supplies. While Wu is talking with Bumei, Kai and Jay go to explore the city.

While out, they get separated, and Jay runs into Cole, who is secretly practicing his earth bending. Jay scared the crap out of Cole, and they ended up in the tunnels underneath the city.

Kai freaks out when he can't find Jay and go's to Wu. Bumei officers help in finding the 2 lost boys.

Meanwhile, Cole and Jay are trying to find their way out of the tunnels and run into a Badger mole. Cole is able to connect to/ Impress the badger mole, and it leads them to the King Bumei, who is waiting at one of the tunnel openings with Wu and Kai.

Bumei kenw and was friends with the Badger mole and somehow knew were to pick up the boys. He was impressed with coal's ability to connect with the earth and recommended him to Wu for further study.

Wu accepted and offered Cole a place on the destiny's bounty. Cole, wanting to get away from his father, agreed.

5- School

They finally make it to Lloyd's school in the New Azulon colony, but they are too late. Garmadan got word of his sons a weakening power and swooped in before Wu could get there.

The teacher who originally told Misako about Lloyd's power tells them about Garmadon and that he is planning to train Lloyd to be a master assassin and to be loyal to himself and the fire nation.

Garmadon in the meantimehas taken Lloyd to his personal base on an island in the middle of nowhere. The base is run by Fire Nation's staff, but it is outside of the fire nation Territory, so we can avoid all the bureaucracy of the colony governors.

6 - Snake

To find Garmadon's base, Wu tracks down one of Garmadon's informants, Pythor, to an island of the north coast of the earth kingdom.

When they get to the island, they meet Zane, who is helping the local resistance against Pythor and his men. With the help of the locals and Zane, they defeat Pythor and capture him.

Because Pythor is a snake ( not literally in this case), He tells them where Garmadon is and how to get there in return for his life and his freedom. They agree but leave him locked up on the island, with Echo in charge of the island, promising to free him if they return.

They finally know where to find Garmadon and Lloyd and begin the final leg of their voyage with a full crew.

Ninjago/ATLA

Lloyd is obviously the avatar, Cole is an earth bender for sure while Zane is a water bender leaning twards ice. We all know this it's obvious.

Jay is supposed to be an airbender since lightning is an element from the sky and shit, but then I thought what if Jay was actually a fire bender?

Think about it, it actually fits Jay to an extent, especially since strong af fire benders can lightning bend too.

So Jay is a fire bender, strong enough to be able to lean toward lightning instead of fire. (There's also the fact that he's traumatised when it comes to fire and all)

Kai and Nya are siblings, with different eps, so when it comes to them, people usually make one of them a none bender.

But what if, when two people with different elements have more than one children, the children would have NOT have the same element. WHAT IF, Kai and Nya(who are twins) both have elements, because their mother was a water bender and their dad a fire bender.

Therefore, Kai is a fire bender and Nya a water bender.

Now, following the ATLA, Jay is supposed to be that poor prince who got banished and was looking for the Avatar to get back(Zuku, if you haven't realised), but he's ten times stronger and ten times nicer.

He doesn't get taken down by the avatar who can't even bend fire, water or earth yet and two teenagers who can't control their elements. Nope, he fucks them up, takes Lloyd with him, but then Ed and Edna(the ppl who got on that ship with him and became family) talked to hima bit, and he quickly frees Lloyd.

Jay has a huge ass trauma when it comes to his birth father and mother, and he knows how terrible his parents are and the only reason he's trying to get back to them is to protect his little sibling(haven't decided who yet) from the shit he has gone through himself.

Ninjago/ATLA AU bc there's not enough of those.

Lloyd is the avatar and the Fire Prince and this boi is going thru it. He begins Fire Bending Training very young so by 10 years old he's pretty good but has not mastered it. When he was 11 he accidentally waterbent while feeding the turtleducks with Wu. Wu of course was like 'well shit' and helped Lloyd understand what it meant and also kept it a secret bc Garmadon would either get his son to help him take over the world or if he couldn't he'd probably just imprison him (to make sure he's not reincarnated.) He does actually care for his son but he cares about power just a bit more. When Lloyd turned 14, he and Wu left to travel the world and find teachers for Lloyd so that he could defeat Garmadon. They left at night undetected and now are being hunted down by the Fire Nation. Wu for 'kidnapping' and Lloyd to be brought back to the palace.

Fire Lord Garmadon. After taking the throne he decided he wanted to take over the world and started the war. :|

Wu. This mans never helped out in the war because he didn't agree with it at all. He hung out in the palace doing whatever it is the fire lord's brother does and helping raise Lloyd. When Lloyd was like 2 he left on a 'spiritual journey' for about a year- he just kinda wandered around the world.

Firebender Jay but he only uses lightening bc he went a little backwards in his self taught learning adventures. He accidentally figured out he can control lightening before fire. Upon trying to firebend he either can't even produce a spark or he basically just combustion bends but really badly and it explodes in his face. He doesn't keep trying bc he doesn't really care. Lightening is cool af dude who needs fire. Grew up in the middle of nowhere in the Fire Nation at Ed and Edna's Swap Shop. (Basically a junk yard.) Ed and Edna are nonbenders. (lmao just imagine you own a swap shop and someone just leaves a whole ass baby and takes a lamp or something while ur sleeping) Wu and Lloyd met Jay not long after they left the palace. They were taking back roads and less populated areas to remain unfound when they stumbled upon the Swap Shop. They figured, 'hey we should get less nice things because rich people are very noticeable actually.' Jay who is 16 was like 'mom and dad can I please join these travelers who are actually the fire prince/avatar and his uncle (jay saw a wanted poster) because a- the avatar needs to learn to control lightning bc it would be useful, and b- I want to travel please please please' and thus Lloyd and Wu gained their first moron.

Non-bender Misako. She left to find the avatar when Lloyd was still a baby- not knowing the avatar is her fucking son - bc she wants to stop FL Garmadon and figured committing treason wouldn't be the way to go about it. She wanted to take Lloyd but Garmadon wouldn't let her.

Cole (17) is an earthbender. He wanders the earth kingdom climbing mountains and shit after running away from home. His dad is a performer in Ba Sing Se. After Lilly died, Lou just threw himself into it, ignoring everything else and forcing Cole into dance lessons more often. He didn't want Cole using his bending/fighting because he relates it to Lilly's death. (Instead of resting and receiving treatment for her illness she continued fighting in the army until she got too sick to continue.) Wu meets Lilly while he's off doing his soul searching. Later when he's trying to find teachers for Lloyd, he searches for her, and they come across Cole instead. Cole had been taught by badgermoles after he ran away, and also earned cash by occasionally joining fighting rings in random towns and is a skilled earthbender so he joins to teach Lloyd and beat tf out of the fire lord.

Firebender Kai (16) and Waterbender Nya (14). Kai is a blacksmith and they live in an Earth Kingdom colony. He figured out he's a firebender when he was 12. Nya still hasn't figured out she's a waterbender. They don't know their parents were benders bc they died when Kai and Nya were both pretty young. (FALSE they were arrested bc mixed relationships were illegal in the fire nation. Kai and Nya don't know this bc from their pov their parents just kinda didn't come home one day.) Maya went with the warriors as a healer when they left the Southern Water Tribe. She and one of the men had stayed behind in a nearby earth Kingdom town bc he was wounded badly. She met Ray while he was making blacksmith deliveries. Wu finds Kai and Nya in the village when he's looking to repair Lloyd's sword. He learns of Kai's hatred of the war, and Nya's desire to Do Something and they end up joining the crew. Lloyd and Kai train together since Kai hasn't really had any proper training, and Lloyd is still learning firebending.

Zane (18) is a waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe. His fighting style is like 97% ice, 3% water. Wu and the gang travel to the NWT to find a waterbending teacher. (On the way Nya gets pissed at some fire nation soldier and accidentally freezes him - learns she's a waterbender) When they arrive, Lloyd starts his training under the prev. Master of Ice (do we ever learn his name??) but he won't teach Nya - very Pakku of him - She gets pissed off and Zane is like 'Master why not teach her? She clearly possesses the ability and desire to learn? To which Ice is like fuk that shes a girl. Anyway Zane agrees to teach Nya since he's pretty much a bending master already and Lloyd is like well I'd rather learn from a guy who's not a prick, too. Ice gets mad that Zane is teaching Nya and Zane is like well if she can't learn in the NWT perhaps we should leave so that she isn't in the NWT and then she can learn. Thus Zane has joined the group.

Hi! I know you're very fond of blood bender Nya. So, that makes me wonder if that will be included in Lightning Pin. I'm curious because I think it will be a good opportunity for Nya to bond with Kaida since Kaida can control souls, and if Nya's a blood bender, she technically can control people (?) Idk, that's how I see it jrndksk.

OOO THANKS FOR THIS ASK! Believe me, I've been thinking about this very concept since they can control people and what it means for each of them to use a technique like that.

I'm also going to take the opportunity to talk a little about bloodbending and how I think Nya would feel with that technique (spoilers for Skybound AU I guess)

In particular, I think that Nya would use bloodbending in a situation where she is really desperate, an extreme scenario where she has no other option and it's her best alternative in combat to quickly finish off an enemy. Nya has a strong sense of responsibility for the difficulty involved in managing an element as versatile as water. Even if she may be frustrated at first with this very thing, she is aware of the scope of such an element and the importance of controlling it. She would clearly understand the consequences of simply depriving someone of control of their body, the moral question of when it is necessary to use such a technique when she may accidentally end up killing a petty criminal.

So, I don't think Nya would be afraid of the technique but she wouldn't feel comfortable using it in combat knowing what it entails and much less she would use it unless she was pushed to her limits. Of course, if she was in a situation where she had no choice she would be really ruthless with bloodbending.

Now Kaida on the other hand...

I've mentioned it before, but this girl sees violence as something normal and pragmatic. Thanks to Jay, she understands that she has to control her powers better so as not to accidentally hurt someone she cares about, but it's not like she thinks or even considers that there are any other ways to handle a situation other than "kill or be killed." For example, in Lightning Pin, she attacks Cole without even thinking once she realizes he is an elemental master. So her sense of awareness of what it means to use her powers completely ignores the moral question of what it means to steal someone's soul. It also doesn't help that Jay's moral flexibility means he was never really able to teach her exactly the opposite in a place like the Administration.

Which I definitely want to touch on in the fic with her and Nya, since while Kaida's first instinct is to fight (like a soldier) Nya's first instinct is to protect (like a samurai). And I want them to bond based on the differences and what they consider necessary about how to fight with their elements.

Lloyd in my ATLA Au is the same but I'm confused, which elements suits him as the "avatar". Should he be an earth bender or air bender

If we want to match his color like in ninjago, earth bender will do but the closest element he ever "had" Is Air so I'm confused 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️

Name: Morro Wu

Alias: Jade Owl

Powers: Aerokinesis, enhanced healing and durability, enhanced senses

Age: 16 (at time of death)

Backstory: Morro's parents abandoned him for unknown reasons, and upon finding him Wu adopts and trains him. He was the only vigilante active in the city at the time and protected it on his own. During the Preeminent's first attempted takeover, he is killed and brought to her dimension, where he becomes second-in-command and eventually returns to Ninjago.

New fic new fic new fic!!!!

A couple months ago I discovered the appalling lack of avatar aus in the ninjago fandom and set out to do something about it

This story falls in the same time as atla, but — with the exception of avatars prior to and including Aang — with all ninjago characters

The general premise is as follows:

Aang died in the Air Nomad genocide and is believed to have been the last avatar

Lloyd is the son of the Firelord (Garmadon) but has never been a very strong firebender and isn’t interested in politics

One day while with his uncle (Wu), he airbends

He subsequently flees the country and has to wrestle with being the avatar, as well as unlearning all the propaganda and bigotry he’d been fed his entirely life

He makes friends tho :)

I will not be spoiling what characters’ roles are in this story, but know that Wu = Iroh is just about the only one-to-one character and even that’s a bit different. I’m very excited to share this story with you all and hope you check it out :D
