Earlier this summer I cracked open the pages of Nina Sadowsky’s debut novel Just Fall for the first time and for hours I couldn’t put it down.

I have found myself referring to these books a lot in the past week and they sort of blew my mind when I read them last month. So, inspired by my colleague @ninasadowsky ’s “What I’m Reading” posts, I’m sharing them here: Sarah Jaffe’s “Work Won't Love You Back: How Devotion to Our Jobs Keeps Us Exploited, Exhausted, and Alone” - a really in-depth study (by a labor journalist) of various industries, their labor histories, and how we’ve gotten to where we are (the academia and technology sectors really resonated); Ray Dolmage’s “Academic Ableism”, a look at the academy, its history in the Eugenics movement and the current culture of compliance, retrofits, and accommodations in the (neoliberal) institution (available for free through OpenAccess and Audible), and Catherine Liu’s "Virtue Hoarders: The Case against the Professional Managerial Class” - watch her Youtube talk “How the PMC Ruins Lives”.
