(Note: This one’s a little long, so apologies. They won’t all be like this. Just leaders.)

If there had been only one constant in his life, it was anger.

It’d started when his mother had walked out on him and his father. Maybe if his dad had treated her badly, or he’d been a shit son, he would’ve tried to understand…but back then, neither was true. Turned out the bitch was just heartless; a painful revelation, given that he’d loved her with all of his. Jack had never hit the bottle until after she was gone, and Johnathan had never even considered finding acceptance on the streets until his parents had abandoned him. Both instances would serve him a life he probably hadn’t deserved.

Crime was an easy thing to fall into, particularly in Walthamstow, and especially when you were constantly looking for a fight. They hadn’t approved of him much. Somali gangs were still holding onto their power in his youngest years, and they didn’t need any moody little white boys throwing their weight around. The first time he’d beat one of them to within an inch of his life had been all anger; enough that when the realization of what he’d done finally settled in, he’d almost felt guilty about it.

Almost.

Every time was easier than the last, after that. Eventually, he stopped thinking about it.

When he’d first met Melissa, he’d been in the process of slamming a rival drug dealer’s head in a car door. Johnathan had never really cared about anything other than fighting until that point, but when he noticed that she’d watched without even flinching, he was pretty sure he cared about her, too. From that point forward they were inseparable; an impressive feat, given that not many beautiful, well-spoken, well-educated girls would’ve given him the time of day, let alone wandered into one of the roughest parts of London just for him.

If there was one thing he wished he would’ve learned from his life before then, though, it was that nothing that was good ever lasted. When she dropped out of school and fell pregnant with his child, he sure as fuck wasn’t ready to be a father (even at twenty-five), but would’ve done whatever it took to get it right. To hear that she didn’t feel the same broke his heart. Eventually, he managed to convince her to let his grandparents raise their daughter instead of getting rid of her altogether. Johnathan should’ve left then, and knows it now, but his best friend, Andrew Rutherford, was persuasive enough to convince him to give their relationship another shot.

Their eventual marriage was turbulent—often because of his insistence she met Zoe (which she always declined)—but their love was real. Both of them were moving on with their lives, and Johnathan was as close to Andrew Rutherford’s right hand man as it was possible to be. The man’s family had given him a shot at being something more than just a petty criminal, and after all they’d been through together, he would proudly admit to seeing him as a brother. That was why, when Andrew’s wife died and he planned to pack up to go to America, Johnathan was eager to join him. It would mean leaving a life behind him, but maybe he wasn’t all that attached to it anyway.

A relationship that was doomed to fail finally ended when Melissa chose New York over him. More anger; even if he eventually reasoned that it was better for the both of them. Even though he attempted to stay in touch, she cut him off. All he had left of them were his infrequent visits to see their daughter, and even then, after a while, Zoe told him she didn’t want to see him anymore. As much as he wanted to be as angry about that as everything else, he could hardly blame her after their abandonment. Johnathan respected her wishes.

Porto Velho brought whole new challenges for the Rutherford family, and Johnathan was a master at channelling whatever misery he felt into brutality. The petty gangs in Cávado that he’d been brought over to control cowered before him; particularly after a murdering spree that spilled far more blood than he ever had back home. It didn’t take the Brit long to earn a devastating reputation. How his penchant for violence hadn’t reached the ears of Rachael Montgomery, he had no clue.

The last thing he’d expected from the new city was to fall in love again, but when Andrew introduced him to his new wife’s best friend, it had happened. Rachael was everything that Melissa had never been: warm, caring, and compassionate. Unfortunately, it took him a little too long—almost ten years, unbelievably—to notice that as much as his new wife loved him, her eyes also lingered on his boss with a lot more than just admiration. Nothing good ever lasted, huh? In a particularly manic period of self-destruction, he had affairs with many women, including Andrew’s wife. Maybe it was easier to destroy things himself than to be betrayed again.

Their daughter, Sarah, hadn’t been enough to revive their relationship, and over time, he’d grown more and more distant. One thing was for sure, though: he was going to do the father thing right, this time around. Johnathan would never disrespect her mother in front of her, despite their regular verbal altercations when she wasn’t around. In fact, as his life spiralled further and further out of control, he was sure that Sarah was the only thing keeping him sane. That came in handy when the French finally showed up with their intentions to encroach on the Rutherfords’ biggest criminal empire. If it hadn’t been for her, he might well have lost it on them completely.

Johnathan definitely had Cávado under control, but he soon made a new enemy in the French Organization. When a series of peace talks went south (after he killed all but one of the attending Frenchmen) he became their prime target. Johnathan was beyond the point of caring. His kids hated him, he was on the brink of divorce, and he’d recently sparked up a relationship with a Cávado native half his age. What the fuck was wrong with him? Taunting the French brought him what little joy he could still get without physically ripping their fucking spines out. Perhaps he hadn’t realised how out of hand he’d got until Andrew ordered Melissa to the city to rein him in. After all this time, she was still the only one that had any control over him.

The gesture from his best friend wasn’t appreciated.

After almost a year of warring with the greedy parasitic scum, he should’ve known better than to think the French would stop at Porto Velho. They’d had a minor presence in London for decades, but the Rutherfords had always done well at reminding them who was boss. With his hate for the Organization at an all time high, he’d practically begged Andrew to let him head to London to defend what was theirs. Things between the two men were tense—Johnathan had since divorced Rachael, who’d subsequently spent no time getting knocked up by the man she truly wanted—and out of guilt alone, the Rutherford could not decline the man’s wishes.

The only condition was that Melissa had to join him in the city as his second.

With his new girlfriend, a contingent of loyal men, and enough rage to level entire swathes of London in tow, he was ready to once again do what he did best: eradicate anyone that opposed him, or the family he worked for. There would be no holding back, no exceptions, and most importantly of all, no remorse. Not even for their new Russian allies, should they get in his fucking way.

Jai Dalal: Close Friend, deceased. Even though Johnathan is a notoriously difficult man to impress when it comes to work, Jai did just that, and he did it quickly. Back in Porto Velho, he was absolutely Johnathan’s right-hand-man. To lose him to the French (or that’s who is assumed to be responsible) was a huge blow that he is still finding a way to come to terms with.

Théodore Chaussard: Enemy. Johnathan despises the entire French Organization on a cellular level, but this one is almost certainly his favorite to torment. Théo was the only survivor of the Rutherford/French peace talks back in California, and Johnathan is hell-bent on making sure the man spends every day wishing he’d died with his scum friends.

San Diego Comic-Con has got you covered. The cast of the HBO fantasy juggernaut is set to go on a victory lap at the convention in July, even though the series ended in May. 

The panel will be packed with some fan-favorite “GoT” stars, including Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei of Naath) and Conleth Hill (Varys).

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will also be in attendance, in addition to stars Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) and Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont).
