Grand Prix Final Review
Men:
Ilia Malinin (USA) Total Score 292.12 - 1st in the short, 2nd in the free. He had new costumes for the both short and the free. His new short program costume was so bad I found it to be distracting when I was watching his short program. His new free costume is not bad but I still prefer the original. Despite how bad the new costume is, he had a pretty solid short program. In the free he executed all 6 quads, and did a total of 7 quads in the free program, however not a single jump was fully rotated (although I think the 4A was fully rotated imo). 7 quads in one program is very impressive and a great technical feat but it cost him a good program. He looked exhausted which makes sense, and it just felt like a jumping drill. I wish he would cut back on some of the quads so he can connect with his program more.
Yuma Kagiyama (Japan) Total Score 281.78 -2nd in the short, 1st in the free. It’s so disappointing that the 4S was not working out for him this competition as it is usually his best jump. I feel like the pressure of competing against Ilia is starting to get to him, and isn’t allowing him to fully connect with his programs because it feels like he is second guessing himself. I am still in shock that he only got a stsq 2 in the free, he deserved a level 3 at the very least. JNats is quickly approaching and I’m looking forward to watching him compete! #FuecocoTrioForever
Shun Sato (Japan) Total Score 270.82 - 4th in the short, 3rd in the free. I was shocked that he went down on the 4Lz since he’s been so consistent with it this season, however I wish he would take out the 4F in the free because he’s only landed it once in competition this season. His technical content is amazing which was reflected in him getting the highest TES in the free. I would love to his him emote some more and really work on connecting with the audience. Overall he has had a great season I will be surprised if he does not make the Worlds team this year. Also looking forward to seeing him compete at JNats! #FuecocoTrioForever.
Daniel Grassl (Italy) Total Score 254.96 - 5th in the short, 4th in the free. I really don’t think he should have ended up ahead of Mikhail here. He has a new short program which I liked better than his old one, but I still can’t stand his free. He is so slow on the ice.
Mikhail Shaidorov (Kazakhstan) Total Score 253.75 - 3rd in the short, 6th in the free. I have really enjoyed watching Mikhail become a fan favorite this season! He is just so warm and endearing, you just can’t help but root for him. He had some very sweet moments with the ice sweepers and his Kung Fu Panda gala program is excellent. I can’t believe he landed a 3T in the panda costume lol. He did a 3A1Eu4A in the free, but didn’t have the cleanest program. He needs to put more work into his components, because his stsq and spins are costing him points, but he knows that.
Kevin Aymoz (France) Total Score 238.63 - 6th in the short, 5th in the free. Was not the performance he was looking to have here but It’s nowhere near the flop that he had last year. He still looked to be in good spirts and even though the jumps did not go the way he wanted he never stopped performing. Interested to see how the rest of the season will go for him.
Women:
Amber Glenn (USA) Total Score 212.07 - 1st in the short, 1st in the free. Had me super worried when she finished the short and was saying that she hurt her back. I love seeing how solid she is with the 3A. Her jumps looked a bit tight and she had a couple of two footed landings but this is such a great victory for Amber and I’m so happy for her. I think this win will give her plenty of positive momentum going into the second half of the season.
Mone Chiba (Japan) Total Score 208.85 - 2nd in the short, 2nd in the free. I am in love with the short program especially the second half when it picks up and her spiral in her free program lives rent free in my head. Her consistency this season has been so impressive and I’m pretty confident that we’ll be seeing her on the Worlds team which is not an easy feat considering that there were 4 other Japanese ladies in this event.
Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) Total Score 201.13 - 4th in the short, 3rd in the free. She is the love of my life and I love her so much. She had a rough short program but I’m glad that she was able to make it onto the podium. I’m really excited to see her at JNats since she had such an incredible performance at NHK. Her speed and the quality of her movement is unmatched and she demonstrated excellent sportsmanship at this event.
Wakaba Higuchi (Japan) Total Score 195.96 - 6th in the short, 4th in the free. No more saving the combo for last because it is not good for my stress levels and it betrayed her at this event. Her stsq in both the short and free were incredible. I still think the first half of her free is a bit boring and I just find myself waiting for it to get to the Kate Bush section. According to Jackie Wong this is the first time this season that she’s been given full credit for the 3Lz3T! I hope she does well at JNats because I really really want to see her on the Worlds team!
Hana Yoshida (Japan) Total Score 194.02 - 3rd in the short, 5th in the free. I think she has a great set of programs and it is clear that weird works well for her. Had a pretty solid short program, and her free was a little messy but she made it through. I love both of her costumes and I just think that she is so cute and enduring.
Rino Matsuike (Japan) Total Score 189.02 - 5th in the short, 6th in the free. I am praying that she can’t put down a clean short program at JNats because I need to see this program clean at least once this season! Put down a clean free but her GOE combined with her mistake in the short just wasn’t enough her get her higher. Her skating skills are absolutely unmatched. She looks so light and airy and her skating looks effortless.
Pairs:
Minerva Fabienne Hase / Nikita Volodin (Germany) Total Score 218.1 - 1st in the short, 1st in the free. They were so solid here. The only mistakes some hands down during the SBS jumps in the free. They both committed to the story and were great actors in the short, and they ate the Four Seasons free program as well.
Riku Miura / Ryuichi Kihara (Japan) Total Score 206.71 - 2nd in the short, 3rd in the free. I love their short program so much and I was surprised that they ended up in 2nd after the short although it was very close. Riku had a bit of a rough free program but I’m glad that they were able to hang onto the silver medal. Unlike the singles Japanese men and women at this event their JNats will be easy peasy so I’m looking forward to watching them perform with a little less pressure.
Anastasiia Metelkina / Luka Bergulava Georgia) Total Score 205.78 - 3rd in the short, 2nd in the free. Their 3Tw and throw jumps are stunning. I love their short program, they have such great energy and are great performers. I don’t really understand the story behind the free, so if someone knows and can fill me in that would be great! Shame about the throw 2Lo in the free as it cost them the silver medal.
Ice Dance:
Madison Chock / Evan Bates (USA) Total Score 219.85 - 1st in the rhythm, 2nd in the free. They are stunning. The short has grown on me a lot since the first time I saw it at Skate America, but I am obsessed with the free. Take 5 is so iconic and Maddy’s costume is amazing. Both of them are wonderful performers and they just look so good together. I could not look away.
Charlene Guignard / Marco Fabbri (Italy) Total Score 206.11 - 2nd in the rhythm, 3rd in the free. I really like the rhythm dance. They look like ketchup and mustard in a good way, and I think the program is cute and has a lot of personality. I am still conflicted with the robots program. I did not like the OG robot costume but the new costumes don’t look like robots at all so there has to be a happy medium somewhere. I am shocked with how close they ended up being with Lilah and Lewis.
Lilah Fear / Lewis Gibson (Great Britain) Total Score 205.18 - 3rd in the rhythm,4th in the free. I just now noticed that rhythm dance costumes has some purple in it! I feel bad because I was complaining about how plain and boring their costumes are but I apologize for my past actions. Still don’t like the music cuts between the two songs. I am a big fan of the Beyoncé program, I am such a sucker for Halo, and they eat the ending up. They brought back the Rocky program for the gala and omg it’s so iconic.

Personal recap at European Championship - Pairs FS
I guess this is one of the best attended Pairs events all season or even of most European championships! Also Kaunas really impresses with the quality of filming and the flag thing is quite cool.
Can't say the result is what I wanted...
The favorites struggled, first Conti/Macii in the SP and now Mini and Nikita.... wasn't their Europeans but both are great teams and imo overall better than those that placed above them. Anyway congrats to the other two Italian teams! 🥳🇮🇹
CATS WON! 😸😻I am really happy for Matteo Guarise, a European medal on his 10th European championship! This team with Lucrezia Beccari works really well and I like the fun they have with the program - hate the music cuts though. I also like that with their age gap they don't portray a loving couple on ice but go for something different.
I am just glad Luka Berulava/Anastasia Metelkina didn't win honestly...I will never forgive him how he treated his former partner Karina Safina and dumped her so horribly when she was struggling. A silver on the first try as a new team is still admittedly a very good result. I really didn't like the program. I am all in for quirky but this was just weird. I also love Queen music usually but not on them...
Ghilardi/Ambrosini were great! 👏👏👏Finally a really good program for them! Europeans seems to be their competition. A medal last season, a medal this season! I also like the dark Bram Stoker theme, they sell it so well!
I am really sad about Minerva Hase/Nikita Volodin 😭😭 Their chemistry is spellbinding. And in such a short time they developed so well. Today they were too many mistakes but as they struggled with illness and couldn't train this much, it's still a good achievement honestly. Also pressure was certainly high coming in as GPF champions. This season is just a start to their career and I am really sure there is more greatness to follow! ❤️ How about winning Worlds??? (I may be a bit biased as Mini is from my hometown and her mother and grandparents greeted me at German Nats bc they remembered me from Nebelhorn Trophy 😅, but aside from my bias they just deserve the world)
Hocke/Kunkel also did the best they can in the current condition. 🫶 Robert Kunkel should probably not be skating at all with his severe back injury that also will not really heal if you carry a partner daily around. But I applaud him for not giving up. Annika shines bright like the sun, but she seems to have some mental problem with the 3S. She does them well in practice and well in warm-up and then doubles them in competition or falls. I swear if not for those jumps they would be top contenders for every international medal, but she really has to get her mental state together.
The Hungarian team Pavlova/Sviatchenko are technically superb. They lack a lot of connection to music but I think for the way they are they did well. I do think they were scored quite strictly compared to others but I think the final placement is right. Loved her reaction at the end of the program!

Cup of China Review
Men:
Shun Sato (Japan) Total Score 278.48 - 1st in the short, 2nd in the free. So happy he finally won his first Grand Prix! I am in love with his short program. Shame about the level 2 stsq. Popped his 4F in the free, but that was his only major mistake. Would like to see a bit more speed from him.
Mikhail Shaidorov (Kazakhstan) Total Score 276.17 - 2nd in the short, 1st in the free. 3A4T Let’s Go! Both of his programs grew on me the second time around. Cannot believe he fell during the choreo sq. Up until this morning we thought that he was out of the Grand Prix Final, but now he’s replacing Adam, so I’m happy for him.
Adam Siao Him Fa (France) Total Score 252.53 - 3rd in the short, 3rd in the free. I know withdrawing from the Grand Prix Final was a tough decision but it was the right one. He is clearly injured and he needs time to recover if he wants to do well in the second half of the season. I’m still very sad for him.
Nika Egadze (Georgia) Total Score 246.54 - 4th in the short, 4th in the free. Another 4th place finish for Nika. He usually puts up a decent short, but struggles a bit in the free. His gala program is amazing, and I wish he could show as much personality in his programs as he does in the gala.
Matteo Rizzo (Italy) Total Score 243.82 - 5th in the short, 6th in the free. The 4Lo went a lot better than it did at NHK! I know some people are tired of it but I really enjoy his Fix You program. It was a shame he couldn’t get the last two jumps down.
Daiwei Dai (China) Total Score 237.35 - 7th in the short, 7th in the free. He totally surprised me! It looks like he’s pretty solid on his 4T even though he went down on it during the free. I’m officially rooting for him.
Deniss Vasiljevs (Latvia) Total Score 234.67 - 9th in the free, 5th in the short. Why does he keep trying to put the 4S in the short?? I’m glad he got in the free even though he popped it the first time. He has great speed and beautiful skating skills so even if he does frustrate me with the 4S I will always enjoy watching him.
Boyang Jin (China) Total Score 231.89 - 6th in the short, 9th in the free. I do not like the free at all. I swear, you could play any song over his performance and it wouldn’t matter. Just withdrew from Chinese nationals due to injury which is a shame. He got absolutely showered with plushies which is amazing.
Hyungyeom Kim (South Korea) Total Score 216.64 - 11th in the short, 8th in the free. He was a bit slow but he managed to stay up in both of his programs! I really liked his free, especially the ending.
Nikolaj Memola (Italy) Total Score 214.77 - 10th in the short, 10th in the free. Every time I see him I shocked by how tall he is. Short was okay, but had a hard time in the free. I like him a lot, so hopefully he’ll do better in the second half of the season after he gets some rest.
Yudong Chen (China) Total Score 182.6- 8th in the short, 11th in the free. It didn’t look like he had a costume on during his short. His free was Kung Fu Panda which I loved but he was struggle bussing a bit.
Wesley Chiu (Canada) - WD. He got injured in practice so it’s a shame we didn’t get to see him compete at all. Hopefully he’ll be healed in time for Canadian Nationals.
Women:
Amber Glen (USA) Total Score 215.54 - 2nd in the short, 1st in the free. I’m so proud of her. Watching her brings me so much joy. The 3A is so solid, she has so much speed and her spins are great. However, I’m not really in love with either one of her programs.
Mone Chiba (Japan) Total Score 211.91 - 1st in the short, 2nd in the free. Fell during the stsq in the free which was SO sad. She’s a great performer and I love both of her programs.
Chaeyeon Kim (South Korea) Total Score 209.47- 4th in the short, 3rd in the free. Her Tron program might be my favorite program of the season. I am obsessed with it. Free is also very pretty, and she is a lil cutie and I love her so much.
Rion Sumiyoshi (Japan) Total Score 202.45 - 3rd in the short, 4th in the free. I still can’t get over how her free program is about plants getting water. But you know, if I were a plant and I were thirsty I would be very happy to get some water. Both of her costumes are gorgeous.
Rinka Watanable (Japan) Total Score 196.95 - 5th in the short, 6th in the free. My FAV. LOVE the entry into her last spin. She landed the 3A and had a great first half of her free program but struggled in the second half. An absolute shame. She’ll have her comeback at JNats tho.
Kimmy Repond (Switzerland) Total Score 195.91 - 6th in the short, 5th in the free. I like her short, don’t love the free, especially the costume. Even though she went clean in the free, the GOE for her jumps were pretty low, so that’s why I think Rinka went ahead of he.
Madeline Schizas (Canada) Total Score 180.77 - 8th in the short, 8th in the free. She’s so smiley during the short, and it makes me so smiley. However, I really really like her free. She had a couple of pops in the second half which is a shame.
Anastasiia Gubanova (Georgia) Total Score 177.34 - 11th in the short, 7th in the free. Had a rough short and wasn’t able to get her combo. I like the space program a lot better than the angst ABBA. Her GOEs for her jumps were also quite low despite staying on her feet.
Yi Zhu (China) Total Score 166.04 - 10th in the short, 9th in the free. She got a cat plushie with a dress that matched her dress after the short which was absolutely precious!!!! I LOVED the A Star Is Born program. I thought it was lovely.
Xiangyi AN (China) Total Score 163.74 - 9th in the short, 10th in the free. Miss girl gave herself a good slap before starting the free lol. She managed to stay on her feet and her spins were very nice.
Minchae Kim (South Korea) Total Score 154.29 - 7th in the short, 12th in the free. Had a pretty decent short program but fell apart in the second half of her free.
Hongyi Chen (China) Total Score 139.57 - 12th in the short, 11th in the free. Short was rough but she did better in the free! She was a bit slow.
Pairs:
Sara Conti / Niccolo Macii (Italy) Total Score 211.05 - 1st in the short, 2nd in the free. Love the short, and the free is very touching. I’m glad they were able to improve their scores from Grand Prix de France.
Minerva Fabienne Hase / Nikita Volodin (Germany) Total Score 209.36 - 2nd in the short, 1st in the free. I guess Minerva had food poisoning so all the props to her for going out and getting the job done. He fell out of nowhere during the stsq in the short, but I’m glad that they were able to stay on the podium.
Lia Pereira / Trent Michaud (Canada) Total Score 188.74 - 3rd in the short, 3rd in the free. I really liked Sing, Sing, Sing. The only nit pick that I have is that I wish her dress was red to match his pocket square, and Sing,Sing,Sing just screams red to me, IDK.
Ice Dance:
Charlene Guignard / Marco Fabbri (Italy) Total Score 209.13 -1st in the short, 1st in the free.
Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha (Canada) Total Score 205.16 - 2nd int he short, 2nd in the free.
Christina Carreira / Anthony Ponomarenko (USA) Total Score 198.18 - 3rd in the short, 4th in the free.
I haven’t been able to watch the ice dance yet because I wasn’t able to watch anything live, and I’ve also been getting over the flu, but I wanted to get this up before it got too late! No skating this weekend, but I’m ready for the Grand Prix Final next weekend!
