Homeopathic Treatment for PCOS: A Natural Path to Hormonal Balance
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent hormonal disorder that affects millions of women worldwide. Characterized by a range of symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, excessive hair growth, acne, and weight gain, PCOS can significantly impact a woman’s physical, emotional, and reproductive health. Conventional medical treatments often focus on managing symptoms through medications, which may not address the root causes of the condition. In contrast, homeopathy offers a holistic approach that seeks to restore balance within the body, addressing the underlying issues that contribute to PCOS. In this blog, we will explore how homeopathic treatment for PCOS can serve as a natural path to hormonal balance, providing relief from symptoms and promoting overall well-being.
Understanding PCOS: A Complex Hormonal Imbalance
PCOS is a complex endocrine disorder that typically emerges during a woman’s reproductive years. The condition is named for the multiple small cysts that often develop on the ovaries, although not all women with PCOS will have these cysts. The exact cause of PCOS is not fully understood, but it is believed to be linked to a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
One of the hallmarks of PCOS is an imbalance in reproductive hormones, particularly an excess of androgens (male hormones) and insulin resistance. These hormonal imbalances can disrupt the normal functioning of the ovaries, leading to irregular ovulation or anovulation (lack of ovulation), which in turn can result in irregular periods, infertility, and other related symptoms.
Common Symptoms of PCOS
The symptoms of PCOS can vary widely from one woman to another, but common signs and symptoms include:
Irregular periods: Women with PCOS often experience infrequent, irregular, or prolonged menstrual cycles.
Excess androgen: Elevated levels of male hormones can lead to physical signs such as hirsutism (excessive hair growth on the face, chest, and back), severe acne, and male-pattern baldness.
Polycystic ovaries: The ovaries may become enlarged and contain numerous small fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs.
Weight gain: Many women with PCOS struggle with weight gain, particularly around the abdomen, and may find it difficult to lose weight.
Fertility issues: Due to irregular ovulation, PCOS is a leading cause of infertility in women.
Skin changes: Darkening of the skin, particularly along neck creases, in the groin, and underneath breasts (acanthosis nigricans), as well as the development of skin tags.
PCOS is also associated with an increased risk of developing other health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sleep apnea. Additionally, the emotional and psychological impact of PCOS, including anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, should not be underestimated.
Conventional Approaches to PCOS Treatment
Conventional treatment for PCOS typically involves managing the symptoms through medications and lifestyle modifications. These may include:
Hormonal contraceptives: Birth control pills are commonly prescribed to regulate menstrual cycles, reduce androgen levels, and control symptoms such as acne and hirsutism.
Anti-androgen medications: These drugs can help reduce excessive hair growth and acne by blocking the effects of androgens.
Insulin-sensitizing drugs: Medications like metformin are often prescribed to improve insulin resistance, a common feature of PCOS.
Fertility treatments: For women who are trying to conceive, medications such as clomiphene may be used to stimulate ovulation.
Lifestyle changes: A healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management are crucial components of managing PCOS, particularly in reducing insulin resistance and improving overall health.
While these conventional treatments can be effective in managing the symptoms of PCOS, they do not address the underlying hormonal imbalances that contribute to the condition. As a result, many women seek alternative treatments that offer a more holistic approach. This is where homeopathic treatment for PCOS comes into the picture.
Homeopathy: A Holistic Approach to Treating PCOS
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been practiced for over two centuries. It is based on the principle of "like cures like," which means that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can be used in very small doses to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment, focusing on the individual as a whole rather than just the disease. This approach considers the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of a person, as well as their unique constitution and lifestyle.
Homeopathic treatment for PCOS aims to address the root causes of the hormonal imbalances that lead to the symptoms of PCOS. By restoring balance within the body, homeopathy can help regulate menstrual cycles, reduce androgen levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and alleviate other symptoms associated with PCOS.
The Homeopathic Approach to PCOS
In homeopathy, each individual is treated as unique, and the treatment is tailored to the specific symptoms and constitution of the person. During a homeopathic consultation, the practitioner takes a detailed history of the patient, including their physical symptoms, emotional state, lifestyle, and any other relevant factors. This comprehensive assessment allows the homeopath to select the most appropriate remedy or combination of remedies for the individual.
Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances, including plants, minerals, and animals, and are prepared through a process of dilution and potentization. The remedies are selected based on the principle of similarity, meaning that the remedy chosen should match the patient’s symptoms and overall constitution. The goal of homeopathic treatment is to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes and restore balance.
Common Homeopathic Remedies for PCOS
Several homeopathic remedies are commonly used to treat PCOS. The choice of remedy depends on the individual’s specific symptoms and overall constitution. Here are some of the most frequently prescribed homeopathic remedies for PCOS:
Pulsatilla: This remedy is often indicated for women with irregular or absent periods, especially when the periods are suppressed due to emotional factors. Women who benefit from Pulsatilla may be emotionally sensitive, weepy, and crave attention and comfort. They may also experience symptoms such as weight gain, acne, and digestive issues.
Sepia: Sepia is commonly used for women with PCOS who experience irregular periods, fatigue, and a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen. Women who need Sepia may feel irritable, indifferent, and disconnected from their loved ones. They may also have a strong aversion to sexual activity and feel better with physical exercise.
Lachesis: This remedy is indicated for women with PCOS who have difficulty with ovulation and suffer from premenstrual symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, and bloating. Lachesis is often used for women who experience hot flashes, headaches, and a feeling of constriction in the throat.
Natrum Muriaticum: Women with PCOS who are introverted, reserved, and prone to depression may benefit from Natrum Muriaticum. This remedy is often used for women who have irregular periods, excessive hair growth, and a tendency to retain water. It is also helpful for those who have a strong craving for salt and difficulty expressing their emotions.
Calcarea Carbonica: This remedy is often prescribed for women with PCOS who are overweight, have a sluggish metabolism, and are prone to excessive sweating. Women who need Calcarea Carbonica may also experience anxiety, fatigue, and digestive issues, particularly a tendency toward constipation.
Thuja Occidentalis: Thuja is commonly used for women with PCOS who have a history of suppressed emotions, particularly grief or sadness. It is also indicated for women with oily skin, acne, and excessive hair growth. Thuja may also be beneficial for women who experience irregular periods and a feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen.
Oophorinum: This remedy is made from ovarian tissue and is often used for women with PCOS who have irregular or absent periods. It is believed to help regulate hormonal balance and support ovarian function.
Sabina: Sabina is used for women who experience heavy menstrual bleeding, often accompanied by severe cramping and back pain. It is also indicated for women with a history of miscarriage.
Ignatia Amara: Ignatia is often prescribed for women with PCOS who are emotionally sensitive and prone to mood swings, particularly those triggered by grief or loss. It is also used for women with irregular periods and digestive issues, especially those related to stress.
Apis Mellifica: Apis is indicated for women with PCOS who experience swelling, puffiness, and fluid retention. It is also used for women with ovarian cysts and sharp, stinging pains in the lower abdomen.
Benefits of Homeopathic Treatment for PCOS
Homeopathic treatment offers several advantages over conventional treatments, particularly for a chronic and complex condition like PCOS. Some of the key benefits of homeopathic treatment for PCOS include:
Holistic Approach: Homeopathy treats the whole person, not just the symptoms. This holistic approach addresses the underlying causes of hormonal imbalances and promotes overall well-being, rather than just managing the symptoms of PCOS.
Individualized Treatment: Homeopathic remedies are tailored to each individual's unique symptoms and constitution, ensuring a personalized treatment plan that is more likely to be effective.
Natural and Safe: Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances and are highly diluted, making them safe and free from harmful side effects. This is particularly important for women who are looking for a gentle, non-invasive approach to managing their condition.
Long-Term Relief: While conventional treatments often provide temporary relief from symptoms, homeopathy aims to restore balance within the body and address the root causes of PCOS. This can lead to long-term improvement in symptoms and overall health.
Supports Emotional Health: PCOS can have a significant impact on a woman’s emotional well-being. Homeopathy takes into account the emotional and psychological aspects of the condition, offering remedies that can help alleviate anxiety, depression, and other emotional symptoms.
Complementary to Conventional Treatments: Homeopathy can be used alongside conventional treatments for PCOS, providing additional support and enhancing the effectiveness of other therapies.
The Role of Lifestyle Changes in Homeopathic Treatment for PCOS
While homeopathy can play a significant role in managing PCOS, it is also important to consider the impact of lifestyle factors on the condition. PCOS is closely linked to diet, exercise, stress, and other lifestyle factors, and making positive changes in these areas can enhance the effectiveness of homeopathic treatment.
Diet and Nutrition
A healthy, balanced diet is essential for managing PCOS. Focus on whole foods, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid processed foods, refined sugars, and trans fats, as these can exacerbate symptoms. A diet rich in fiber, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory foods can help regulate blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, and support hormonal balance.
Exercise
Regular physical activity is crucial for managing PCOS, particularly in improving insulin sensitivity and managing weight. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Activities like walking, swimming, yoga, and strength training can be particularly beneficial for women with PCOS.
Stress Management
Stress can have a significant impact on hormonal balance and overall health. Practice stress management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness to help reduce stress levels. Homeopathic remedies can also be used to support emotional well-being and reduce anxiety.
Sleep
Getting enough quality sleep is crucial for hormonal balance and overall health. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night and establish a regular sleep routine. If you have difficulty sleeping, consider discussing this with your homeopath, as there are remedies that can help improve sleep quality.
Hydration
Staying well-hydrated is important for overall health and can help support your body’s natural detoxification processes. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and more if you’re physically active or live in a hot climate.
Avoiding Toxins
Environmental toxins can disrupt hormonal balance and contribute to the development of PCOS. Reduce your exposure to toxins by choosing organic foods, using natural cleaning products, and avoiding plastics that contain BPA and other harmful chemicals.
Finding the Best Homeopathy Online Consultation for PCOS
For women seeking homeopathic treatment for PCOS, finding the best homeopathy online consultation is an important step. Online consultations provide convenient access to qualified homeopaths who can offer personalized care and guidance tailored to your specific needs.
Benefits of Online Homeopathy Consultations

POSSIBLE NARRATIVE CONCEPTS - Concept 3
RESEARCH
Ants are incredibly similar to human society. Ants have to create highways, traffic rules, and infrastructure; participate in assembly lines and complex teamwork; or allocate a labor force for effective division of labor. When considering the often-striking similarities between humans and social insects, one fascinating parallel is the existence of warfare in both
All-out wars are almost always carried out by large societies — in our case using techniques refined over centuries dating back before the Roman Empire. No other vertebrate regularly conducts aggressive operations that can endanger their society in this way — but some social insects do. Ants are one of these insects.
Ants even make use of complex battle strategies. The tactics ants use in war depend on what is at stake. Some ants succeed in battle by being on the constant offensive; army ants almost always hunt en masse with a more malicious aim, storming other ant societies to seize the colony’s larvae and pupae as food.
In Ghana, carpets of workers of the army ant species Dorylus nigricans search together across an area 100 feet wide. These African army ants—which, in species such as D. nigricans that move in broad swathes, are called driver ants—slice flesh with bladelike jaws and can make short work of victims thousands of times their size.
Other ant species send a far smaller number of workers called scouts out from the nest to search separately for food. By fanning out across a larger area while the rest of the colony stays home, they encounter more prey and enemies.
Ants also partake in farming and livestock keeping. Most ants cultivate fungus on leaves to harvest them later on. In addition, herder ants tend to aphids – the little green bugs that drink plants’ nutrients. Ants love the sugary substance aphids exert and treat the bugs as their dairy cows. Ants actually “herd” aphids underneath the leaves of a plant, forming a sort of corral.
Due to ant colonies having various jobs, polymorphism is common within ant species. Solider castes called Majors, for example are extremely large, have bigger and stronger mandibles, and have a wide head. Minims, which are too small to cut or carry leaf fragments, are commonly found at foraging sites. They often ride from the foraging site to the nest by climbing onto the fragments carried by other workers.
Ants have bodies with three sections: a head, an abdomen and a thorax. In addition, all ants have six legs and bent antennae.
History of the ongoing ant war:
There was a species of ant that lived by a swamp at the end of the Paraná River in Argentina. Her name, Linepithema humile, literally means “humble” or “weak”. Some time during the late 1800s, an adventurous L. humile crept away from the swamp.
She stowed away on a boat that sailed to New Orleans. And she went to war.
At home in the Paraná delta, L. humile nests would ferociously defend themselves from other nests, both of their own species and other kinds of ant. It was a life of never-ending territorial skirmishes, where nobody could really get ahead. When two L. humile met, they would flick their antennae over each others’ bodies, tasting the combination of hydrocarbons on their skin. This flavor would tell them whether the stranger belonged to the same nest. If she tasted familiar, she would be recognized as a sister. She would be gently stroked, offered food and welcomed into the nest. But if the flavor were not recognized, the ants would try to kill each other.
In New Orleans, something changed. L. humile, invading the United States, spread like wildfire. Instead of forming discrete, competing colonies, they behaved as a united army. They would brutally attack ants of other species, but welcome every L. humile as a long-lost sister in arms. Like L. humile in Argentina, other species of ants in the US must defend their territories against their own species. This gives the cooperative L. humile a huge strategic advantage; they waste neither lives nor energy on fighting with their own kind, but focus ruthlessly upon species-level conquest. Though individually tiny, they can swarm over native ants many times their size.
The supercolony grew to cover most of the United States. Then it spread to England, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. L. humile is now abundant on every continent except Antarctica, and wherever she goes, she slaughters native ant species.
How did she do this? Its believed to be a combination of two things. inbreeding reduced the diversity of hydrocarbons on the ants’ skin, such that they no longer saw one another as enemies, but as friends. In addition, natural selection tone down L. humile’s territorial instincts to suit their environment, so they would react aggressively only to the strong stimulus of another species.
Near San Diego, a schism formed, and a separate supercolony was created. The battlefront extends for miles; some 30 million ants die there every year. Another super-colony has formed in Catalonia. Perhaps as L. humile eliminates her competitors, her alliance will fracture entirely into squabbling tribes. But for now, from Europe to the United States, all the way to New Zealand, a global megacolony still persists, consisting of around 1 trillion individuals.

What is PCOS, and what are its primary symptoms and characteristics?
Tumblr media
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that affects individuals with ovaries, primarily women of reproductive age. It is characterized by a combination of symptoms related to hormonal imbalances and the ovaries. Here's an overview of PCOS and its primary symptoms:
Overview of PCOS:
PCOS involves disruptions in the normal hormonal balance, particularly involving insulin and androgens (male hormones), which can lead to various symptoms and health issues. While the exact cause is not fully understood, genetic factors and insulin resistance are thought to play a role in its development.
Primary Symptoms and Characteristics:
PCOS presents with a range of symptoms that can vary from person to person. Not all individuals with PCOS will experience every symptom, and the severity can also differ. The primary symptoms and characteristics of PCOS include:
1. Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Women with PCOS often experience irregular menstrual cycles, which may manifest as infrequent periods, heavy or prolonged bleeding, or even skipped periods.
2. Ovulation Issues: Anovulation, or lack of regular ovulation, is common in PCOS. This can lead to difficulty in conceiving and fertility challenges.
3. Hyperandrogenism: Elevated levels of androgens (male hormones) can cause symptoms such as excessive hair growth on the face, chest, and back (hirsutism), as well as acne and oily skin.
4. Polycystic Ovaries: On ultrasound imaging, the ovaries of individuals with PCOS might appear enlarged and contain multiple small cysts. These are actually follicles that have not matured and released an egg during the menstrual cycle.
5. Insulin Resistance: Many women with PCOS have insulin resistance, a condition in which the body's cells do not respond effectively to insulin, leading to higher levels of insulin in the blood. Insulin resistance can contribute to weight gain and metabolic issues.
6. Weight Gain and Obesity: While not all women with PCOS are overweight, obesity and weight gain are commonly associated with the condition, and they can exacerbate symptoms.
7. Skin Issues: Acne, oily skin, and dark patches of skin (acanthosis nigricans) can occur due to hormonal imbalances.
8. Mood Disturbances: Some individuals with PCOS may experience mood swings, depression, or anxiety.
It's important to note that PCOS is a complex condition, and each individual's experience can be unique. Early diagnosis and management are crucial to preventing long-term health issues like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and infertility. If you suspect you have PCOS or are experiencing symptoms, it's recommended to consult a healthcare provider for proper diagnosis and guidance.

Best Gynaecologist For Pcos In Chennai
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)and Hormonal Imbalance
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder in women, but it is one of the least diagnosed conditions. It negatively affects women at different stages of life. But unfortunately, half of all women with PCOS are unaware of it. Because it is a complex and multifaceted disease, it affects women's health and well-being in many ways. Therefore, there is a need to raise awareness and focus on prevention strategies.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), better known as hyperandrogenic anovulation, is a frightening endocrine disorder caused by a hormonal imbalance in women. A person with PCOS will develop a small fluid-filled cyst in one of her ovaries. Cysts interfere with the normal functioning of the ovaries and can make women feel uncomfortable and weak. When such a situation occurs, you should check-up with the best gynaecologist for PCOS in Chennai.
Causes and Effects of PCOS
Too much increase in insulin and the production of androgens, in turn, causes PCOS symptoms. High insulin levels can also increase cravings and lead to weight gain. High insulin levels have also been linked to a skin condition called acanthosis nigricans, which results in patches of thick, dark, and velvety skin.
Insulin resistance- Insulin is the hormone produced in the pancreas.
Low-grade inflammation- white blood cells make substances responsive to infection or injury.
Genetic research suggests that certain genes may be involved in PCOS.
Excess androgens
PCOS affects a woman's hormones. The irregularity in hormonal levels causes a woman's body to miss her period, resulting in excessive hair growth and elevated androgen levels. The condition also makes it harder for women to conceive. Delay in diagnosis of PCOS can lead to the progression of comorbidities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PCOS/PCOD?
PCOS and PCOD is a word we often encounter these days, but what do we know about it? Let’s make it clear here.
The Name clash:
PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome) and PCOD (PolyCystic Ovarian Disease) are both addressing the same condition.
So why two terms ?
Earlier, PCOD was the term used to refer to the condition; later it has been changed to PCOS because it’s a collection of symptoms that usually occur together, not the established disease by itself.
The Physiologic clash:
Despite what the name indicates, PCOS doesn’t only mean cysts in the ovaries but also includes hormonal imbalances without ovarian cysts.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex condition characterised by elevated androgen levels, menstrual irregularities, and/or small cysts on one or both ovaries. The disorder can be morphological (polycystic ovaries) or predominantly biochemical (hyperandrogenemia). Hyperandrogenism, a clinical hallmark of PCOS, can cause inhibition of follicular development, microcysts in the ovaries, anovulation, and menstrual changes (Ndefo, 2013).
When you should be concerned:
Ovarian cysts
Irregular menstrual cycles
Pelvic pain
Hirsutism [excessive growth of dark or coarse hair on the face, chest, and back in a pattern resembling that of a man]
Alopecia [disease that happens when the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss]
Acne
Acanthosis nigricans [a skin condition that causes velvety, light-brown to black patterns on the neck, under the breasts, and in the armpits]
Skin tags
These are the typical PCOS symptoms that are seen. A symptom from the list above does not necessarily indicate PCOS. As was previously said, PCOS is a collection of symptoms, therefore having a lot of them should be of worry.
Clinical symptoms of PCOS are increased secretion of luteinising hormone (LH) and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH); increased GnRH in turn increases production of androgen.
Other hormones that play an important role in PCOS are insulin, sexhormone binding globulin, and FSH. Prolactin levels are also elevated in people with PCOS.
If PCOS is suspected, physical assessment; blood test and pelvic ultrasound are usually performed to diagnose the condition.
PCOS as asymptomatic:
Having symptoms, being aware of them, and taking care of them is one way to manage; how can we know if there are no symptoms?
In the case where PCOS patients don’t develop symptoms but have ovarian cysts or other hormonal imbalance, it means they are at the starting stage of PCOS or at a subtle stage where they can pass it to their offspring. (Asymptomatic PCOS, 2009)
Why should PCOS be addressed ?
More than 50% of PCOS patients go on to acquire prediabetes or diabetes after receiving a diagnosis. There is also an elevated risk of myocardial infarction (MI), dyslipidemia, hypertension, anxiety, depression, endometrial cancer, and sleep apnea. Additionally, pregnant women with PCOS need to be aware of the elevated risks for preterm birth, gestational diabetes, and miscarriage (Ndefo, 2013).
What can be done ?
The cause of PCOS is still unknown, so the treatments are directed towards the symptoms. The goal should be analysed before starting the treatment-the primary focus should encounter anovulation, effects of increased androgen and insulin resistance, as these could lead to further complications.
There is a lot of pharmacological treatment for PCOS pertaining to the goal or symptoms like anovulation or insulin sensitivity or hormonal imbalance. Based on your assessment, your medical professional recommends which medications you should go ahead with.
Since weight management is the prominent effect of PCOS, exercise with dietary intervention improves weight management and reduces cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes risk.
The dietary intervention not only helps to handle weight management but also helps to lower your symptoms like hair loss, inflammation, etc. and, to some extent, it also helps you to balance your hormone secretions if you have the right guidance and help. The hormone is severely affected by sleep deprivation and mental health. Therefore, concentrating on mental health is also important.
Conclusion:
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a complex disorder for which multiple treatment approaches are required, depending on the reason a patient seeks treatment.
Naturally, there will be some uncertainty about which treatment to pursue, and we at Cysertcare are here to help with professional advice and guidance. Addressing every symptom and its triggering factors is important in the management of PCOS. CysterCare helps you understand the process, encounter possible causes of the hormonal imbalance and provides beneficial ways to effectively manage PCOS in the long run.

How to Test for Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is a chronic health issue in which cells in your muscles, fat, and liver don't respond to insulin as expected. It may lead to prediabetes, diabetes, and heart disease if left untreated.
The good news is that it's not a life-threatening illness and can be managed through diet, exercise, and weight loss. You may also require medication in certain instances, such as insulin.
The most commonly used method to detect insulin resistance is the fasting glucose tolerance test (FPG). This assessment takes place after an overnight fast and is often part of your annual physical exam.
Other tests include the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). This involves drinking a high-glucose beverage and taking blood samples at regular intervals for two to three hours.
After an overnight fast, you can obtain fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and insulin levels test to help diagnose prediabetes or diabetes. This test is typically included in your annual physical and could possibly be part of the process.
If you have prediabetes or diabetes, FPG, and insulin levels tests can help detect issues before they worsen. They also serve to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and avoid diabetes-related complications.
Your age and genetics can play a significant role in whether or not you develop insulin resistance. People who have a family history of diabetes, are overweight or obese, smoke, have obstructive sleep apnea, or take certain medications like steroids or antipsychotics may be especially susceptible to this condition.
Testing for insulin resistance is recommended for all women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as this can increase your risk of gestational diabetes.
Insulin resistance can make it difficult to manage one's blood sugar level unless they take medication to increase insulin sensitivity. If you experience symptoms like increased thirst and hunger, fatigue, blurry vision, and tingling in your feet or hands that suggest insulin resistance, make an appointment with your doctor for a blood sugar test to confirm the diagnosis.
Other signs of insulin resistance include high triglycerides in the blood and low HDL cholesterol. If you experience these symptoms, your doctor may suggest a cholesterol and triglyceride test for further evaluation.
The waist-hip ratio is another reliable test for diagnosing insulin resistance. This measurement, usually done during a physical examination, may indicate the presence of metabolic syndrome or other health concerns such as fatty liver, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and Cushing's syndrome.
Women with PCOS and obesity may be at increased risk for insulin resistance, particularly those who have a family history of diabetes or are overweight. Screening should take place to protect these vulnerable individuals.
Insulin resistance can be difficult to recognize and may manifest over time without any warning signs. The most obvious symptom is an elevated blood sugar level; however, other signs may include increased thirst/hunger, blurred vision, tingling in your hands and feet, as well as dark patches on your neck, groin, or armpits known as acanthosis nigricans. Causes & symptoms of PCOS
We don’t know the precise explanation for PCOS, but genetics has a crucial role, and case history is additionally important. PCOS is usually related to increased levels of two hormones within the body, insulin and androgens (male-type hormones).
Not every woman with PCOS will have every symptom, and every woman are going to be individual in her experience. Symptoms also can change during the course of a woman’s life.
What is PCOS?
Polycystic ovary (ovarian) syndrome (PCOS) is that the commonest hormonal disorder in women of reproductive age (the time from when a woman’s periods begin to once they stop at menopause).[1] It affects 8-13% of girls – about one in 10 – during this age bracket , and may affect more in some high-risk groups, like Indigenous, Asian, North African and Caucasian European women.[2]
What are hormones?
they assist control many functions in your body, like growth, energy, sexual function, reproduction, digestion and temperature.
In a woman with PCOS, her body has an imbalance of two hormones, insulin and androgens. the upper levels of those hormones are liable for the symptoms and signs of PCOS.
PCOS & hormones
It is thought that increased levels of insulin within the body cause the ovaries to figure differently, which then produce excessive levels of male-type hormones (androgens), which successively cause many of the symptoms of PCOS. If the hormone levels are often controlled, the ovaries often function normally, and symptoms improve.
What do the ovaries do?
The ovaries are small, oval-shaped organs located within the pelvis. Their main job is to assist women to urge pregnant. They produce an egg monthly . When the egg is mature, it's released from the ovary (ovulation) and pushed down the Fallopian tube so it are often fertilised.
it's good to notice that there's no known link between these follicles (or under-developed eggs) within the ovaries of girls with PCOS and either larger true ovarian cysts (that sometimes need surgery) or the danger of ovarian cancer.
Family history
So far, no single gene has been found to cause PCOS, therefore the link is probably going to be complex and involve multiple genes.
Women with PCOS are 50% more likely to possess an instantaneous sister – mother, aunt, sister or daughter – with PCOS. Type 2 diabetes is additionally common in families of these with PCOS.
Hormone levels
An imbalance within the body of the hormones insulin and androgens (male-type hormones, like testosterone) causes the symptoms and signs of PCOS
One of the roles of insulin within the body is to stay levels of glucose (sugar or energy) within the blood from rising too high after eating. It does this by ‘unlocking’ the body’s cells and allowing glucose to pass from the blood into the cells. This brings down the amount of glucose within the blood.
Insulin resistance
Around 85% of all women with PCOS have ‘insulin resistance’.[1] If you're insulin resistant, your body’s cells stop responding normally to insulin, and instead block the entry of glucose into the cells. this suggests your body doesn’t use the available insulin effectively to assist keep your glucose levels stable.
Because the insulin isn't working effectively, the body reacts by producing more insulin. Higher levels of insulin increases the assembly of androgens, like testosterone, within the ovaries.
Insulin resistance is caused partially by lifestyle factors – including being overweight, due to diet or physical inactivity. But insulin resistance also can be caused by genetic factors and may occur in women of all weight ranges. Evidence shows that in women with PCOS, about 95% of these with unhealthy weight and about 75% of these who are lean, have insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance plays an outsized role within the symptoms of PCOS, so it's important to know what it's . But it's also important to understand that there are ways to scale back it.
Regular activity and healthy eating are vital in managing and reducing insulin resistance and may greatly improve the symptoms of PCOS.
Androgens
Androgens, sometimes referred to as ‘male hormones’, are normally present in both men and ladies , but at much lower levels in women. All women produce small amounts of androgens in body tissues, including within the ovaries and therefore the adrenal glands. Increased levels of androgens in women with PCOS cause symptoms like excessive hair growth, scalp hair loss and acne. They also contribute to symptoms like irregular periods and irregular ovulation.
Weight & lifestyle
Being above a healthy weight worsens insulin resistance, which is additionally thought to be a key a part of the event of PCOS, and therefore the symptoms of PCOS. Excess weight increases both the hormones liable for PCOS symptoms.

In women with PCOS, high levels of androgens and insulin can affect the cycle and stop ovulation (the release of a mature egg from the ovary). this will make it harder for ladies with PCOS to become pregnant naturally, however, this doesn't mean that each one women with PCOS are infertile. Women with PCOS also can have a greater risk of pregnancy complications once they're pregnant.

‘Hirsutism’ is excess hair growth on the face and body thanks to high levels of androgens stimulating the hair follicles. This excess hair is thicker and darker than normal. The hair typically grows in areas where it's more usual for men to grow hair, like the sideburn region, chin, upper lip, round the nipples, lower abdomen, chest and thighs.

These symptoms are often very distressing for a few women, but treatments are available to assist with all of them .
Psychological effects
Depression and anxiety are common symptoms of PCOS.[5] it's not clear why women with PCOS have an increased risk of emotional challenges. There could be a link to the hormonal changes that occur in PCOS, but more research is required during this area before we will understand why and the way the hormones affect mental wellbeing in PCOS.
This will increase depression and anxiety levels. Problems with fertility can have an impression on your mood, particularly if fertility has been a priority for an extended time.
In addition, these emotional challenges are often particularly difficult if you're unaware that you simply have PCOS. A delayed diagnosis of PCOS, also as problems with weight management, can cause you to feel discouraged and helpless. this is often especially so if you are doing not have the knowledge and support you would like to manage these symptoms. This creates a negative cycle, making it harder to require charge of your health and live the healthiest lifestyle you'll .

Big dude, can see his neck has dark rings (above the black earphone straps around his neck) just like I had before... it’s a skin condition call “Acanthosis nigricans”🙁 🧐It’s quite complex the cause of it and what it implicate but basically poor internal health conditions... https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/acanthosis-nigricans/symptoms-causes/syc-20368983 Once I had my weight loss and health condition improved my neck dark rings went away. But according to my skin doctors I consulted, some areas can be permanently darkened due to pigmentation over long term, hence my armpits and other areas still darkened but it is definitely lighter than before. Health indeed is skin deep and affect how u look. Including condition of your nails and cuticles... but change for sake of health and not looks alone! 👍🤔 (at Singapore) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFvtpjUAj2C/?igshid=bg84t62in992
