Making Atrophy so outspoken against the narrative is a very interesting direction to take him when in most stories Nightmare is used as just an engine for the main plot as antagonists usually are. I’m very excited to see how this au plays out in whatever format that may be in!

From how I talk about nightwatch it’s not hard to gauge that I’m quite insecure about my writing skills. But it’s nice to get some reassurance.

It’s funny because Atrophy is trying to act like a natural engine for psychs own plot. he says wants psych to win, and he markets himself to psych as the villain to complete his heroic journey. In reality though atrophy is artificially creating his own story for his own gratification. no one and no thing that he uses is supposed to have this purpose, nor do they deserve it. He is defying the creators but also acting like and becoming one himself though violence and assertion of power-A false God basically.

favourite book, favourite holmes story? the game looks fascinating :)

Oooh favourite book is HARD!

My traditional answer to the question is Til We Have Faces by CS Lewis, his retelling of the Cupid and Psyche myth. It is written as a memoir by an elderly queen as a record of all the ways the gods have wronged her. It's a fascinating book for him to have produced towards the end of his life - mature, tackling concepts of the human and the divine with great nuance, it's got a fantastic female narrator character who feels so authentically real.

...This is a book by Clive Staples Lewis.

I think you know a book is good when the more of your life you live and the more you discover about the world, the deeper and richer the book gets - it falls into that category for me!

Other books I considered putting in the top slot are A Christmas Carol by Dickens, Tehanu by Ursula K Le Guin, The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco and relative newcomer Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. And I feel weird not putting something Discworld in the list? The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents? Nightwatch? Small Gods? Iunno it's hard to choose.

I flip-flop around on my favourite Holmes story. Rereading Silver Blaze for Letters from Watson has reminded me how delightful it is and how comparatively tight the mystery is.

I think I'm still ultimately going to say the Six Napoleons. It's got a fun wacky mystery which the police aren't interested in, Holmes and Watson being delightful, and a rare insight into Holmes' vulnerabilities (and how he is valued more than he knows).

But obviously I have a weird soft spot for The Lion's Mane by this point.

Hullo, I was wondering if you or anyone else could help me find a fic? I read it like 2 years ago and I haven't been able to find it. It was a fantasy au tddk fic that was pretty much retelling the story of Eros and Psyche (todoroki as a God, and Midoriya doing a bunch of tasks so that they can be together)

I remember that Midoriya and Shouto kept meeting while Midoriya was doing nightwatch for his group, and that's how they bonded. I think Midoriya also confronted Endeavor, who was also a God, in some temple, and that's that's he got the tasks. After that he was in a snowstorm and had to fight something (a bear I think?)

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

"Alyx, look, the rays...! Do you see them...?"

Cloudy skies, lowering temperature, gentle chills blowing across the cityfolk of Altiel... the cooler seasons were arriving, meaning many citizens were bundling up and readying themselves for the holidays. Shopping, staying warm, making memories with photoshoots, families walking together... no matter the lowering temperature, there was still a sense of warmth bustling about...

"I'm not certain why, but seeing rays of light breaking through winter clouds... it's such a gentle yet inspiring sight..." the normally sheepish Gardevoir commented with a tender tint of excitement, ears lifting as she felt her artist fingers twitch her finger across an open page in her sketchbook.

“Yeah, it’s kinda pretty I guess...” Meanwhile, the pale Gallade just looked on towards the sea, his gaze seeming... disinterested...? This didn't go by Oriel unnoticed, of course...

"Brother?"

"... Yeah?"

"... Pardon me for saying so, but you seem distant... is everything alright? You've grown passive as of late..."

"Eh, well... it's just, we've been working here for a while, doing all these fights and whatnot, raising money to make our ends meet..."

"... I guess I've just been wondering..." Alyx just rubbed the back of his head as a pessimistic sigh left his lips, "Don't get me wrong, Oriel, I'm thankful we've gone this far, it's just... As psyched as I am, I was just wondering if we ever will... , or at least, if we did go to see them, if something would make things take a turn for--"

"Heeey li'l bro, hey li'l sis! What're YOU two doing out without your li'l jackets, hm? Heehee~!"

Well that was a pleasant change of pace. The twins ears shot up as they caught the wind of a very familiar doting sisterly voice, with Oriel being first to turn her neck and see their adoptive sibling Lixue hopping over ever-so-cheerfully, sipping a cold beverage.

"Ah, Lixue! Hello again!"

"Hiya hiya! Have you two been standing here this whole time? C'mon, we live in Altiel! Go walk around the city! See the sights! What's gotten my lively li'l bro Alyx and inspired li'l sis Oriel staying put like this? It's not like ya!"

"Ah! W-well, erm, we're just--"

"Catching our breath and taking in the sights for once. Day off and all, sometimes all we just need is fresh air, y'know?"

Lixue could only giggle. "I could believe Oriel saying that, but YOU needing a break, Alyx? Heehee, you have the stamina of a Mudsdale! That's just silly!"

"Erm, Lixue... where is Masou...?"

"Hm? Oh!" She stuck her tongue out as she took a sip of her lemonade before  giving a little sigh. "He's just back at the League, thinking to himself as usual."

"The guy's gotta get out more... can't go isolating himself all the time, y'know? Hasn't he beaten himself up enough yet...?"

Way back at the ABL, the Hellfire Hoodlum himself was perched upon the ceiling of their fighting organization workplace, looming over the city. His own version of sight-seeing, perhaps? Akin to what a nightwatcher would do, at least. The reptile let out a steamy hiss as a whispy trail left his nostrils, gazing down at the cityfolk while allowing himself to be lost in his own thoughts.

<< Mmh... this view of the city...>> he thought to himself, tail idly swishing about as he hissed behind his collar, <<... perhaps one day I'll allow myself to actually enjoy it, once my debt is repaid... >> A disgruntled yet brooding exhale left his mouth, wanting to uncover his head to welcome the breeze, but he held himself back, as if fighting temptation, or perhaps refusing for another reason...

As his eyes wandered, he noticed far off in the distance that the vacant block of space far away from the more lively part of the city had but a few souls attending to it... an area that gave a chillingly silent vibe.

A somber wind howled lightly around the tall dark knight as he glanced down at his subject, as a sigh echoed within his mask and helmet.

"Two years..." he muttered to himself, "... nearly two years now... how time flies..."

Zarathos remained still, unmoving not unlike a statue, as his thoughts continued to escape him...

" ... To think, had I not allowed something so... primal... so arrogant..."

The rest of those would-be words died in his throat, replacing the remnants with harsh mumbles. At a loss for what else to say, Zarathos pledged a hand powerfully to his chest, letting out an adamant snarl.

" ... rest well, soldier..."

Unbeknownst to the Bisharp, at least yet, there were two other Altiel citizens that happened to walk by the entry to this somber field, looking on at the terrifyingly tall warrior from a safe  distance.

"... Erm, how long do you think he's been there...?" a soft, concerned male Bisharp's voice uttered to the other.

"Ah, that I cannot say, mein Freund..." retorted the girl, holding a hand up to her mouth. "I... try to avoid areas such as these, yet seeing him here all by myself makes me wonder..."

"I agree, it's a somber place, but the fact that the Champion is all the way from the Battle League, here, all alone...?"

"Pardon me, but what are you two unlikely onlookers doing?"

"GCK--!" "ACK--!"

Takeshi and Eira nearly leaped at the sound of being addressed from behind, the Medicham behind the both of them merely chuckling in amusement. Adjusting his glasses, he continued to prod.

"Are the two of you here to spy our notorious battle-reigning brood? My my, how unusually rude of you two! Even the champion can't get a moment of peace during such glum displays of consciousness. I highly doubt you two came to merely stare at the dead from a long distance?"

"O-oh! I was just, er, fetching supplies for the Kirikuisine! Food supplies!"

"And I was, er, making my way to the Blue Moon Cafe!"

"The Blue Moon Cafe is not this many blocks away from the ABL, madame. And why come here when the food supermarket provides superior ingredients in the other direction for your quaint little foodshop?"

Just before the two could answer, they felt a burning glare pierce them from the distance.

" ... How long have you been there?" snarled the champion at his unwelcome 'audience.'

Needless to say, Takeshi and Eira were quick to make their ways away, but not before awkwardly waving to Zarathos and then each other.

"T-to the food market with me! Ahaha, farewell!"

"Oh of course! Take care, Takeshi!"

The Medicham just rolled his eyes and shook his head, raising a hand peaceably at the dark champion before walking off. <<Very well, leaving him to his charmingly depressing payment of respects is fair enough I suppose... my curiosity would only be squandered in a place such as this.>>

" ... I'm sure he'll be alright~!" Lixue remarked before sidling up to her adoptive siblings, tilting her head with a cute smile. "C'mon, cheer up Alyx! Masou does enough frowning for the rest of us, you don't have to stay so quiet! C'mon, let's see a smile," insisted the icy Lucaritales before hugging her adoptive Gallade brother.

"Nnh, Li, please--"

And then Alyx's blood sister joined, smiling up at the bladed brawler in hopes he would listen to the words of Lixue. Al could only sigh and give off an awkward grin.

"C-c'mon Oriel, Lixue, you're embarrassing me out here..."

"Heehee, you're beyond embarrassment at this age, Alyx!"

"There's that smile..." Oriel chimed with a little giggle. “How ironic, is it not? You’re usually the one who consoles me...”

"Hah, alright alright, ya win. I've just been thinking a lot that's all, but I guess I'll spend more time seein' sights as usual.”

"Yee~! There we go! Great idea! Let's walk around Altiel together!"

So, postmortem on my old Stormlight theories, post-Oathbringer:

Of the 22 theories listed in those two posts:

5 were correct, and another one is very likely to be correct.

2 were outright wrong.

3 were sorta right, but got some important details wrong.

3-4 are probably wrong, but not outright jossed.

7 weren’t confirmed or denied.

Didn’t do too badly, I don’t think.

Taravingian misidentified his boon from the Nightwatcher -  No indication, but there is a line pointing toward the related possibility I’d considered, which is that he needs both intelligence and compassion, or that the compassion is the real boon.

The Recreance happened because Surgebinders hasten the Desolations - Wrong, though I’m sure we still don’t have the full Recreance story.

Helaran got his Shards from Nale’s Skybreakers, and targeted Amaram on their orders because of his association with the Sons of Honor - Most likely correct, though we, again, don’t have the whole story.

The Parshendi assassinated Gavilar for the same reason - More or less correct, even if I got everything from Point 2 wrong.

Living Shardplate is created on the fly by a high-level Radiant, and modern Shardplate is essentially a cast-off shell - Unaddressed, though it was confirmed that Plate becomes available at the Fourth Ideal.

One of Shallan’s truths will relate to how she attracted Pattern in the first place as a child - Unaddressed.

Pattern was dead between Shallan’s murder of her mother and her murder of her father - Confirmed.

The cometlike spren following Eshonai around after she enters stormform is the Nahel spren for the Willshapers - Unconfirmed but HEAVILY SUPPORTED. It’s clearly a Nahel spren, and barring the question of Listeners seeing different spren from humans, doesn’t match the description of any of the orders we’ve seen so far. My money’s on lightspren/Reachers being the Willshaper spren, and Timbre specifically being the guy’s daughter who “ran off chasing a crazy dream.”

The Listeners are the Dawnsingers - Confirmed.

The parsh are native to the planet, and humans are not and found them there when they arrived - Confirmed.

The Dawncities were created with sound-related magic by the parsh/Listeners/Dawnsingers - Unaddressed, but the construction of the Dawncities definitely seems to be being set up as a plot point.

Lighteyes are the descendants of Surgebinders - Unaddressed, though someone suggests the caste system got set up because light-colored eyes reminded people of Surgebinders.

Ialai Sadeas is going to factor into the plot - Not as much as I was expecting, and while it’s possible she could come back, the narrative seems to be moving away from a field where she’s able to be a major player.

The screaming Szeth hears in his head in WoR is from the Honorblade being used against its purpose - Wrong.

The reason Sadeas says The Way of Kings got Gavilar killed is that Gavilar brought it up re: “pretend to be a bodyguard” thing - Unaddressed.

Prologue candidates: Sadeas, Dalinar, Eshonai, Navani - It was an Eshonai one. And I’m now amending the list to put Amaram as my new bet for “most likely to get a prologue.”

The drunk bearded guy who talked to Szeth at the feast where Gavilar was killed is a Herald - Confirmed. I guessed Ishar or Jezrien, and it was Jezrien.

The Listeners/parshmen are native to another planet in the Roshar system - Unaddressed, but the fact that their souls get held on Braize when they die might be a hint towards it.

The Windrunners broke their vows early in the Recreance because those vows put them in a Catch-22 - Not totally jossed, but probably wrong/overthinking.

The recurring imagery in Death Rattles and Dalinar’s visions of people standing on cliffs above bottomless abysses where their homes should be is literal - Unaddressed, but at least one in Dalinar’s visions is suggested to be metaphorical imagery included for shock value.

...and is the reason for the name “Voidbringers” - Another psych-out is very much possible here, but probably wrong.

Cultivation is located in Shinovar - I think my assumptions when I wrote this one were pretty flawed, but Odium does say to look at Shinovar if you want an idea what a world ruled by Cultivation would look like.

I have no idea how to start this off but, I LOVE your art, and its been one of my biggest inspirations since I've found your account. I absolutely love nightwatch and the medical aspects of it, I've always loved the idea of medicalizing the whole code corruption thing since the idea of the code and makeup of monsters being more physical just sounds so cool, and really adds depth into a world. Psyche is such a cool sans, and I love the idea ofhaving the ability to reverse/revert a monster back to their previous form, i could imagine doing so takes a lot out of him, (I wouldn't expect reversing a monsters code to be easy after all...) but it makes sense magic-wise that he doesn't have any other magic in order to maintain that ability, (that may have been common sense already but I thought it was cool). And since this is an ask, are there any other monsters who have the power of reversion or is it just a psyche?? and pls don't stress yourself out about posting too much, I know all too well what that can do to you if you let it, a lot more people care about your silly au/art than you know it.

And to answer your question: no, no other monsters have psychs ability. In fact psych isn’t technically a monster.

At the end of the doodlesphere and the voids there exists a large atomization void that encloses everything. The void breaks down stray unused codes that eventually drift into it and recycles it back into the multiverse. Psych is just recycled atomized code, therefore has the same properties to revert and break down any codes with his magic. Usually the void recycles it into fauna seen here in my concept art for it:

But psych being made from recycled code was incredibly rare- a one time event.

Monsters may have some similar qualities- in my au the atomization void is what the core is connected to, so people who fall into the core (ex gaster, gasters followers, or core frisk) get atomization sickness where their code is damaged and broken down. Contact with these entities may result in some code alteration, but not to the extent of psychs.

In terms of damage done to psych, he usually bleeds, but it’s not due to the magic directly. Psych was purposely injected with a dosage of human kindness, which when in non humans it makes them incredibly fragile and prone to lacerations + internal bleeding. This was done so psych could administer the reversion magic more efficiently as it’s spread through bodily fluids (blood, sweat, saliva etc)- he also gained the positive quality of human kindness which is quick healing. So most the time when he bleeds out, it heals enough for it not to be seriously damaging. But yes, it takes a lot of energy and physical strength to use his magic.

Sorry if you've already answered this but if error's strings wrapped around psych's soul would he be reverted? Just wondering :)

Yes! It’s a very direct way to revert, his soul being fully exposed means the atomization magic can travel through any contact leading to reversion. The issue with this is it’ll be pretty uncontrolled reversion so it could put errors code extremely far back. Most the time psych reverts people through his sweat (normal physical contact) which is a minimal reversion, or blood which is a controlled extreme reversion.

Minimal reversion can be reversal of minor changes in code like reverting an illness or minor injury

Extreme reversion can reverse age, body form, corruption, and souls themselves- it depends on how psych controls it

But with an exposed soul he can’t control what code is or isn’t reversed so the affects are variable
