Little oopsie in the new short story. Durotar the region was named by Thrall after his dad, Kalimdor the continent was named by the Titans. rip
#I mean personally I ignore the Titans at every possible turn so I also ignore that and say it was the name *Elune* gave it#which ties more directly into the first night elves being the ones to learn that word#but whatever

Idea: Isha thinks Santa is real and is horrified of him because she thinks he doesn’t like her because she never celebrated before as well, she was a kid in the mines.
When decorating time rolls around she’s all pouty and sad until you and Sev confront the poor baby.
this is so fucking funny hahahaehhhaheahe
men and minors dni
it's christmas eve.
your family doesn't do the traditional christmas, especially since your family wasn't even a family this time last year.
you and sevika's usual christmas tradition is a nice homemade meal by the fire, maybe exchanging a few gifts, ending the night in your matching mr. and mrs. claus lingerie (just two santa hat and whatever red underwear you can find.)
but now you've got the girls, so you're trying to get a little more festive.
jinx and isha drug home a fallen pine tree branch a few days ago, decorating it with streamers and paper snowflakes they made themselves.
you and sevika splurged on christmas lights, hanging them on your front porch and lining the walls of your home with the multi-colored twinkles. of course, you've both been hoarding gifts for the girls-- anything and everything you could find that you thought they might enjoy you've piled up in the you and sevika's super secret hiding spot (under the bed) waiting to be wrapped tonight when the girls go to sleep.
it's been fun!
isha's been endlessly enchanted by the sparkly lights lining the streets, she squeals each time she sees a rudolph or snowman decoration, and she's obsessed with all the sweet treats that come around with this time of year. hot chocolate, christmas cookies, candy canes-- isha loves it all.
jinx has been having a wonderful time introducing isha to all the fun traditions that come around with the season. she custom made herself and isha matching stockings (she made you, vi, and sevika stockings too-- but none of them were quite as sparkly and fun as isha's.) she's been referring to the little girl as her 'elf'-- isha always bursts into giggles when she does. and when there's fresh snow-- jinx has been bundling the little girl up and dragging her outside to introduce her to the joys of snowballs and snowmen and snow angels.
so, overall, you've all been feeling pretty jolly.
but... you're starting to get a little worried tonight, because isha's been becoming increasingly restless.
you've got the fire going, christmas music playing on the radio, the four of you sharing a plate of cookies and sipping on eggnog in matching flannel jammies.
isha's frowning down at her feet, a worried furrow in her brow.
jinx is fighting off sleep on the couch, sevika's stoking the fire. you reach out and nudge the little girl's shoulder.
"you okay, baby?" you ask. sevika blinks over at the pair of you concern on her face as she looks at isha.
isha blinks up at you with anxious eyes. what is santa? she signs.
you look at your wife, the two of you having a panicked, telepathic conversation.
should we tell her he's not real? sevika's face reads.
you shrug. she's only five, she deserves at least one year of believing, don't you think? you ask with a quirk of your brow.
sevika sighs and gestures for you to speak. you giggle.
"santa's an old man who lives in the north pole, making toys all year with the help of his elves. on christmas eve, when we're all sleeping, he travels across the world using magic and flying reindeer, leaving presents for well-behaved kiddos just like you!" you explain happily.
only, isha looks horrified.
he comes in our house when we're sleeping!? she signs. sevika chuckles. what if he robs us?
"nah, kid, santa's a jolly old man. he's not a thief. he's been doin' this for hundreds of years and he's i've never heard of anyone getting robbed by santa." sevika says.
isha still looks skeptical. okay... but what about the song? he sees me when i'm sleeping and knows when i'm awake? how?
sevika snorts. "you're awfully smart for a five year old." she says, ruffling her hair. "santa's magic kid, 's how it all works." she explains.
isha hums, kicking her feet and digesting the new information. jinx snorts awake, blinking around and trying to pretend she's been awake the whole time.
what if he doesn't like me? isha signs.
your heart breaks a little, and you wrap your arm around her. "why wouldn't santa like you, kiddo? you're a great little girl. way better than jinx-- and jinx never got coal."
"hey!" jinx protests.
isha giggles a bit, then she frowns again, a tear trailing down her cheek. but... he never left me presents before.
your heart shatters. beside you, sevika lets out a heartbroken whimper.
"oh, isha baby..." you coo, pulling the girl into your lap.
"santa's not real, isha." jinx cuts in. you and sevika gasp and glare at her and she chuckles. "what?! it's true. he's made up, he's a fairy tale-- parents use him to trick little kids into behaving well."
isha sighs in relief. so, if i'm bad ms. baby and big mama will still give me presents? she asks.
you burst into giggles, and beside you sevika cackles.
"'course, kiddo. sevika gave me a holiday present the same year i blew her fuckin' arm off-- there's not much you can do that'll stop 'em from spoiling you from now on." jinx says.
well... shit. now you've got tears in your eyes. you didn't know that about sevika, and it only makes you love her more. you reach out and grab her hand, only to find it shaking a little. she must be just as affected by jinx's words as you are.
it takes you a few seconds to make sure your voice won't wobble before you speak. "alright, speaking of-- the two of you gotta go to your room so me and sev can put your gifts out. try to sleep, please." you say.
jinx giggles and pulls isha in her arms, both of them hugging and kissing you and sevika goodnight before wandering to their room.
the second their door clicks closed, you and sevika are in eachother's arms, crying with gratitude for your girls; the best gift you could've fucking asked for.

Elrond Peredhel A-Z Smut Headcanons
Kinktober 2024
Warnings: SMUT, switch!Elrond, dom/sub dynamics, rough sex, cum, anal play, toys, dirty talk, etc., x reader, gender neutral reader
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
Such a sweet and attentive boy. Elrond is immediately up on his feet, getting whatever you may desire. Especially if you'd just had a more rough session, he would always double check he didn't hurt you and pamper you. Definitely his body's last hurrah before he eventually falls asleep in your arms.
On the flip side, if you'd taken control for the evening, he would be so appreciative of you taking care of him while he stared at you with loving, glassy eyes, bringing him back down to earth.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
Elrond likes (how much you like) his hands. They are the link between his mind and the page as a herald, and the thing to make you truly fall apart. Some of his favourite memories feature him crowding you against a wall with his fingers inside you, gently shushing you so you are not caught.
On you, Elrond always comes back to your hips. Stroking them, grabbing them, kissing up and down them. His hands are always at your hips: to manhandle your pliant body into a new position, or just hanging on for dear life as you make him lose his mind.
Also, just a quick point about Elven ears generally: definitely a major erogenous zone for all elves, so if you even lightly brush your lips against his ears, Elrond is ready to give his soul to you.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
I think he actually sees it as a sign of connection between you both. Either cumming inside of you and mixing his with your own, or spilling all over both you and himself, he just can't help but stare down between you while trying to catch his breath.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
The first time he ordered you to ride his thigh, he came in his pants. The sight of you getting yourself off on him, the power he had over you - it was too much for him. He tried his best to hide it as you were coming down from your own high.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
Elven life is so long, so Elrond is undoubtedly fairly experienced, having a fair share of elves and mortals lured by his charm and good looks. But I feel he may not have ever been as experimental as he may have fantasised of late at night, stroking his cock at great pace. However, despite his long life, Elrond had never loved someone so much as you; he is slightly stunned the first time you make love, forgetting for a moment what to do and where to put his hands.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Below you. In awe. Watching you. Seeing you in control in any situation does things to him, and you on top of him, riding him, controlling him, choking him, makes him lose his mind. Nowhere in the whole of Valinor does Elrond expect to see something quite as beautiful as you over him with your head thrown back in pleasure. All he can do is wrap himself around you and hold on.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
Elrond can go both ways. He can be all cute smiles and giggling, all in your own little world. Or deadly serious, purely focussed on you and the love you share.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
I don't believe he is completely shaven, but the small amount of curly hair that is there is very nicely kept and groomed.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
Such a hopeless romantic. The first time, he decked out his rooms with rose petals, dimmed lights, silk sheets - everything to give you the most pleasurable and intimate experience for your first time together.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
He would always just prefer to find you. But if he is ever away on a mission for Lindon, Elrond can't help but spend nearly every night one hand fisting his cock and the other covering his mouth, muffling his moans and whimpers. He will always take a reminder of you with him, and it stays firmly between his lips when he dreams of feeling your touch again.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
First and foremost, Elrond is a switch - he is overwhelmed the moment you stand over him and use an authoritative tone, but can have you in a puddle on the floor with once single command.
Hair pulling - those beautiful curly locks are too gorgeous to not run your fingers through and grab, and it makes Elrond's eyes roll back in his head every time. And if you ever pull him by his hair, either back to your lips or back to his work under the covers, he's going to cum right then and there.
Face sitting - Elrond would die a happy man, suffocated between your thighs. Nothing is too much for him - he just wants to do good for you - so give him all you've got and watch him buck his hips up and rut against the air like an animal.
Commander kink - need I say more? You were there when Gil-galad ordained him Commander Elrond, and the name immediately went straight through you - and he noticed. Now, he will do barely anything until you have sufficiently begged your commander to keep moving, before he finally slams into you with a power you never thought he could possess.
Overstimulation - it doesn't come out often, but when he is angry with you - and you can't help but fight back - Elrond has no choice but to teach you a lesson. Soon, he has you on his lap, your back to his chest, fingering you harshly as you cum over and over and over again. And he just keeps going, even as your head lolls back over his shoulder.
"Come on, baby, one more. Just give me one more. I want to hear those beautiful moans again. Look at you, finally being so good for your commander."
"Yes, Sir."
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
Sometimes the simplest is the best: in the confines of your shared rooms and marriage bed, you can take all the time you might desire with each other, completely uninterrupted and focussed on each other. Otherwise, he loves to spend a day with you in the woods; take a picnic, sing to you, and make love to you under the canopy of trees.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
You. Just the sight of you. Also, pretty sure Elrond has a competency kink. Seeing you working and succeeding and leading really makes him weak and submissive. And for any little doubts and anxieties that may crawl there way into his mind, just simply knowing you want him, and only him, really frees his soul.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
I don't believe Elrond would ever be into impact play. He may sometimes grab you with hard hands and leave bruises on your hips, but he would never intentionally hurt you.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Elrond is without a doubt a skilled and enthusiastic lover. At any possible opportunity, he will go down on you (or otherwise beg to) and how could you say no to him? His tongue was moulded by the Valar themselves just for you and his eyes close in pleasure as he plays your every string like a lute. Also, he has no gag reflex.
On the other hand, Elrond absolutely loses his mind when you suck him off. He is so overwhelmed and can barely breathe. Definitely when you surprise him by undoing his pants and distract him from work at his desk. And definitely when he stands before you, you on your knees, tears streaming down your face, taking everything he gives you.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
Elrond has a lot of energy, so he can't help but use it sometimes, pounding into you with his lips connected to your neck. But his roughest side comes out when he is stressed from work or angry with the world, your face pushed into the pillows and body pinned to the bed as he takes you in whichever dark way he may desire. If he is in more of a romantic mood, he takes it slower, deeper, more sensual, wrapped up in each other's bodies. Usually slow and sensual, but loses his mind sometimes.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
He always needs you, so whenever and wherever possible. In great hallways in between his meetings with the King, pushed up against the wall (something he had been thinking of doing the entire meeting beforehand. In the gardens in a little secluded corner you know, shushing each other to be quiet between giggles and low moans.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
If he isn't busy with work, Elrond is always down for a quickie. So, you have both taken a lot of risks in your time with regard to location. He was a bit cautious when you first got together about experimentation, but he has become (very) open with time. Elrond just wants to make you happy, and he will do nearly anything to make that happen.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
Elves, y'all… The lot of them have the stamina of the Valar, so you happen to be of a race with any less endurance, then good luck… Elrond is no different: bouncing with boundless energy, ready to go again with very little rest time. He can go all night long. Insatiable.
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
I don't believe his own personal collection would be vast before getting together with you; his primary possession a small metal vibe he teases himself with to thoughts of you. However, he is excited to delve into your own collection, eager to find out what you like and don't like, and which he could persuade you to use on him. He never expected he would ever react like this, but the moment you mentioned it, it lit a fire in him... and so did those nipple clamps he found at the bottom of your box.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
He dishes it out but he can't take it. You really both drive each other insane. Private whispers of dirty promises just before he is called away by Gil-galad, or intentionally low-cut robes that make him choke on air when you bend over - you are both insufferable.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
He's so loud, he just can't help himself. He gets lost in you and your body that he sometimes forgets he's making noises at all. Loud moans all the time, and delicate whimpers when you climb on top of him. But this transforms into low, feral growls when he is jealous or angry, his animalistic and possessive side coming out. Also, no one in the whole of Middle Earth can stop this man's constant dirty talk whispered in your ear.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
I don't think Elrond had done a lot of anal play before meeting you. He had experiemented with himself, fingering himself with breathless gasps in the confines of his chambers. But never particularly with other people; he had always been more of a giver than a taker. It intrigued him, and you helped to bring him into the light. You started slow, trying to relax his nervous trembling, but soon he was thrusting back against you or the toy, eyes glossed over as you hit the just the right spot again and again. Now, it is a frequent feature of your nightlife together, where he can embrace his little subby side and let go to complete pleasure.
"Please, my love, more, I need more. Fuck. I need you so bad, please give me more, I can take it. I love you. Please."
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
He is not the longest, but has a fair girth and is slightly curved up in just the right way to make you see stars.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
High. Definitely high. He's so in love. He will physically tell himself to calm it before meetings with the High King (more frequently than he'd like to admit), and then he is able to stay focussed on the job at hand. But when he is writing speeches - and ultimately calm in his beloved art - he can start to feel his mind wandering to you. All the strength in his body is needed to make sure all his work is finished before running off to find you.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Once he has taken of you thoroughly, Elrond gets very sleepy. He tries his best to engage in pillow talk with you, but soon his eyes start to flutter close - not without them leaving your beautiful face.

Hello there! Hi, hey I really like your Thranduil x Reader stories! I have a suggestion if you are taking any!
Thranduil is used to others trying to get close to him, being overly kind to get a favor. Or even the most bold being unnecessarily flirty in hopes of getting his favor. Why does reader stand out? Because they are kind to his son, his young son Legolas. Most usually brush the young prince off, but you? You actually listen and care for Legolas like he was your own.
And what better way to get into the heart of a King than through his son?

Through the Eyes of a Child
The halls of Thranduil’s grand palace had always been filled with whispers. Elves seeking favor, nobles using honeyed words, warriors boasting their latest victories in hopes of earning his approval. Thranduil had seen it all—flattery, manipulation, and, at times, even seduction. Yet, none of it impressed him. None of it mattered.
What did matter was the boy who ran through those halls, golden-haired and bright-eyed, a prince who was often overlooked by those vying for the king’s attention.
Legolas had grown up in a world where he was acknowledged, respected even, but rarely truly seen. He was a child, and in the courts of the woodland realm, children were meant to be well-mannered, obedient, and silent. Most elves bowed to him as they passed, speaking to him only when necessary, their interest feigned.
But then there was you.
From the moment you entered Thranduil’s court, you had been different. You had not tried to charm him, nor had you sought to curry favor with his advisors. Instead, your attention had gone to the one who needed it most—the child left in the shadow of a king.
You had knelt before Legolas the first time you met him, speaking to him as an equal rather than an obligation. You had asked about his training, about his interests, about his thoughts, as if they truly mattered. And to him, they did.
The first time Thranduil had noticed, it had been a passing observation. He had been seated upon his throne, listening to reports from the border patrol, when he caught sight of you in the courtyard. Legolas had been talking—excitedly, passionately—and you had been listening, nodding, smiling, engaging in a way that no one else had bothered to do.
His son had laughed then, and Thranduil had paused mid-sentence. He had not heard that sound in quite some time.
That was when the king first took notice of you.
Legolas had always been an eager learner. He adored archery, much to his father’s pride, and he had a sharp mind when it came to strategy. But he was still young, and youth, no matter how noble, carried uncertainty.
“I do not think I will ever be as good as the others,” Legolas had confessed to you one evening in the training yard, his small hands gripping his bow tightly.
You had crouched beside him, adjusting his stance with gentle hands. “Great warriors are not made in a day, little prince,” you had said. “They are made through patience, through practice, and through belief in themselves.”
Thranduil had been watching from the shadows, unseen, unheard, as he so often was. He had expected you to offer words of encouragement, but what he had not expected was the unwavering sincerity in your voice, the depth of care in your touch as you adjusted his son’s fingers over the bowstring.
No one spoke to Legolas like that. No one took the time.
That night, the boy had gone to bed with a smile, clutching his training bow like a prized possession.
Thranduil had remained awake long after.
It became routine. Every day, Legolas would seek you out. Every day, Thranduil would catch glimpses of your interactions. Sometimes, it was as simple as a walk through the gardens, where Legolas would babble about whatever fascinated him that week, and you would listen as if it were the most important tale ever told. Other times, it was training, your patience never faltering as you guided him through forms and techniques.
What struck Thranduil the most was how natural it all seemed. You did not dote on the boy in the way some might to gain favor. You did not feign interest for the sake of appearances. You cared.
And Thranduil found himself watching more closely than he intended.
There was something disarming about you, something that made him uneasy, not in fear, but in unfamiliarity. He was used to seeing others through the lens of skepticism, always questioning their intentions. But with you, he saw no ulterior motive.
That unsettled him more than he cared to admit.
One evening, Thranduil found himself in the library, lost in thought as the fire crackled beside him. It was a rare moment of solitude, one he found himself needing more often these days.
A quiet voice interrupted him.
“You are thinking too much.”
He turned, raising a brow at you. You stood in the doorway, hands folded behind your back, your expression neither intimidated nor bold—just honest.
“That is an accusation few dare to make,” Thranduil remarked, amusement threading through his voice.
You shrugged. “Few see past the crown.”
A pause. He studied you then, truly studied you, as he had so often done from afar. But this was different. This was not a stolen glance through a crowd, nor a fleeting observation from a distance. This was face to face, eye to eye.
“You care for him,” Thranduil said at last. It was not a question.
You nodded. “I do.”
“Why?”
The simplicity of the question caught you off guard, but you did not hesitate in your answer.
“Because he deserves it.”
Honesty. Again, that disarming honesty.
Thranduil leaned back, exhaling through his nose as he considered your words. “And what do you hope to gain from it?”
Your brow furrowed. “Nothing.”
For a long moment, he said nothing. He only watched. And in that silence, something shifted.
Thranduil had spent years building walls around himself, fortresses of cold logic and caution. He did not let people in easily, nor did he trust without reason. But you? You had found a way past his defenses without ever trying to breach them.
Not through deception. Not through charm.
Through kindness. Through sincerity.
Through his son.
And Thranduil, for the first time in many, many years, found himself wondering what it would be like to lower his walls just a little.
Just enough to let you in.
Time passed, and your relationship with Legolas changed. One day, as you walked along the riverbank, you suddenly heard a shout.
Legolas stood a few feet away, gripping a sword, his stance tense yet eager. His blue eyes shone with determination as he pointed the blade at you.
— I want to test myself. Fight me. — His voice was firm, though there was a trace of hesitation in it.
You blinked a few times, surprised by the challenge, before a sly smile curled on your lips.
— Your Highness, are you sure you can defeat me? ~
Legolas mumbled something under his breath, shifting slightly where he stood.
— I'll at least try... — he admitted, a little embarrassed.
But before he could react, you lunged at him—not with a sword, but with open arms. Swiftly dodging his blade, you tackled him to the ground, sending both of you tumbling onto the soft riverbank.
— Ah! — he let out a startled yelp, but his surprise quickly melted into bright laughter.
You joined him, your own laughter spilling out as you held him down. The golden-haired prince laughed so freely, so genuinely, that the very air around you seemed to shimmer.
Something was happening.
The riverbank—so quiet moments ago—now pulsed with warmth, the golden glow of tiny lights flickering like fireflies around you both. The very essence of the place shifted, embracing the joy radiating from your shared laughter. Such a phenomenon was rare. Emotions, in their purest form, could sometimes imprint themselves upon the world, leaving a permanent mark, but only if they were powerful enough to be accepted by nature itself.
High above, from a shaded path, Thranduil watched.
The scroll in his hands nearly slipped from his grasp as he took in the sight before him.
It had been centuries since he last witnessed something like this.
His lips parted slightly, and he murmured, almost to himself:
— Legolas...
At the sound of his father's voice, the young prince quickly rose from the grass, his expression alight with joy. He sprinted toward Thranduil, who, despite his usual restraint, opened his arms just enough to embrace his son.
Meanwhile, you pushed yourself up on your elbows, brushing a few strands of hair from your face as you looked up at the king. Meeting his gaze, you smiled.
Thranduil released Legolas and stepped toward you, lowering himself onto the grass beside you with effortless grace.
You raised an eyebrow.
— Your Highness, it is not proper for a king to sit like this on the grass.
He didn't even blink at your words. Instead, he regarded you for a long moment before finally speaking.
His voice was steady. Certain.
— Will you become my wife?

I’m so happy you’re back I adore your writing! I wanted to request one where the reader comforts the lotr characters after they have a nightmare💕
Thanks love
This is a sweet request, anon! It turned out a bit angsty, at least in parts... I hope you’ll enjoy the read ♡
・゚✧ Aragorn.
Aragorn frequently dreams of Narsil, Isildur, and the shadows of his ancestors. Those nightmares leave him distraught and at first even disoriented. It takes you a while to get through to him with soft Elven whispers and gentle hands to steady him. When you do, he does calm and holds onto your hand tight and keeps mumbling weakly, “Meleth nín…”
.
・゚✧ Arwen.
Nightmares are worse for Elves than Men, due to their gift of foresight which amplifies the bad things they see in their dreams. The dark future Arwen sees at night haunts her during the daylight, too, but you are there to hold her hands and offer a shoulder to cry on. While she won’t lose hope easily, the shock in Arwen’s heart is deep every time.
.
・゚✧ Boromir.
Boromir won’t tell you about his nightmares until he would start crying one morning, seemingly out of the blue. You are there to comfort him with a gentle hand on his back and all the silence he needs to collect himself, before finally opening up about his fears and the nightmares they conjured. “At least I have the certainty you would not think less of me, knowing what you know now…”
.
・゚✧ Elrond.
You wake by Elrond’s side when his nightmare punches him out of sleep. For long, terrible moments, he was back amidst the fires of Mount Doom, desperate lungs filled with poison smoke and disbelieving eyes on Isildur’s back. Now you can provide him with air and water to bring him back to the cool calm of Rivendell.
.
・゚✧ Éomer.
It has taken you far too long to wake poor Éomer from his nightmare. His feverish, sweaty, desperate face would have broken your heart had it lasted any longer. But war leaves its invisible wounds, and Éomer wasn’t spared. He holds onto you for dear life as if he was only half-way back to reality, but you tell him everything would be all right.
.
・゚✧ Éowyn.
Upon waking her from her nightmare, Éowyn draws her sword at you, staring you down with a fury you have never seen in her usually so kind eyes before. You back away slowly, speaking softly to bring her back to reality and away from whatever has been haunting her. When she recognises you, Éowyn bursts into tears, hiding her face. “Oh, forgive me! Forgive me, love…!”
.
・゚✧ Faramir.
Childhood trauma has often kept Faramir awake, but creeping its way into his dreams was even worse. When he wakes, he needs only seconds to reorientate himself, but would then cover his mouth to not wake you with his sobs. You, of course, are not bothered but concerned by what you hear and offer Faramir to spend the night awake with him until he would fall asleep in your arms as you watch the sunrise.
.
・゚✧ Frodo.
Frodo tosses and turns in his sleep with big sighs and sobs which eventually wake you up. You know that Frodo isn’t an easy sleeper, but his nightmare phases still shock you anew every time. You gently wake him up to tell him everything was fine, and at first Frodo genuinely seems relieved. However, you know that the following hours won’t be easy for him, so you keep supporting him with kind words and his favourite tea, taking it easy all day.
.
・゚✧ Galadriel.
Nightmares are so rare for Galadriel that she has no way of dealing with them. They bring tempests not only to her heart but Lórien, too. You stay with her throughout and guide her back to the light in the days afterwards. She is weak but leans on you for incorrigible support. Thanks to your care, closeness, and words of affirmation, the Lady of Light can return to her normal life.
.
・゚✧ Gandalf.
Gandalf’s nightmare has summoned thunder and lightning, keeping you from sleeping. When you try to deliver him from whatever evils keep chasing him, a magical fire flames up. When you try to touch Gandalf’s shoulder again, it diminishes, and you manage to wake him up. The storm is gone almost in an instant, and Gandalf’s face is as soft and friendly as ever. He won’t talk about his nightmare right away.
.
・゚✧ Gimli.
One night, you would hear quiet sobs next to you and realise Gimli was crying in his sleep. He would not wake up easy when you pat his shoulder or caress his arm, but eventually his eyes would open and he’d meet yours with a sad and tired gaze. Perhaps he would like to talk to you about his nightmares of Moria’s fall at a later point, but for now, he is content with you letting him cry without judgement, stroking and kissing his hair gently.
.
・゚✧ Haldir.
Out of fear of giving others leverage against him, Haldir won’t tell anyone of his horrible nightmares. Since your sleep has always been light though, you notice very soon that something is wrong with dear Haldir. While he would deny your offers of comfort rather coldly at first, he eventually asks you to simply listen to his sorrows so that they no longer weigh down his heart. You know how bad the sentiment is for Elves, so you thank him genuinely for sharing it with you.
.
・゚✧ Legolas.
As with all Elves, nightmares are poison to Legolas due to his Elven abilities. Darkness and terror spread in his heart, and it will take him weeks to recover. You are always there to hug and kiss him – physical touch is what comforts poor Legolas the most in these times. He is as restless as ever, but you remind him that he is safe with you. “Indeed, there no fortress in this world where I would be more secure than in your arms, my love.”
.
・゚✧ Merry.
Merry always tries rationalising his nightmares, to the point where he won’t allow himself to be vulnerable and let his fear sink in. That is where you can help your poor Hobbit the most: by reminding him that you will always be there for him, no matter if it’s the middle of the night and some random “nonsense darkening his mind”. You sit down with him by a fire and talk about it all.
.
・゚✧ Pippin.
After nightmares, Pippin is often still scared for a longer time. After helping him calm down, you make sure to light as many candles and lamps as possible. Food is also a good comfort for Pippin, which has led you to make strawberry sandwiches at three in the morning twice already. To ground himself further, Pippin would also sometimes sing to you quietly.
.
・゚✧ Sam.
Sam’s nightmares are intense but thankfully leave as quickly as they come. He usually sleeps well whenever he is with you, and you comforting him after a traumatic dream reminds him why: You take him seriously, sometimes more than he himself does, and don’t ridicule the encounters of his nightmares. Cuddles and a bit of talking usually do the trick, and the two of you fall asleep again soon ♡

Heirloom (Part 3) || Ominis Gaunt x Reader || Smut
Outline: Weeks after your arranged wedding, you and Ominis have a few things to confess to each other…
Word count: 3’925
Warnings: arranged marriage, panic attack, (unwanted) pregnancy and explicit smut.
(( Part 1 - Bloodline )) - (( Part 2 - Please )) - (( Masterlist ))
The living room was plunged in darkness, the old clock ticking on top of the chimney, where a slightly outdated portrait of the Gaunts hung, each member coldly keeping an eye on the manor. You walked in, nervously playing with your hands as you approached the green velvet sofa facing the fireplace, finding Ominis lying down on it, his blond hair in a mess gainst his pillow and his tie losened.
You felt bad for waking him at such a late hour of the night but you had spent the past few hours after dining together hoping he would join you in his bedroom but it seemed tonight - like every other night - he had preferred the sofa instead of sharing a bed with you. Of course, you wanted to respect his boundaries and his privacy. You knew that Ominis had married you out of the goodness of his heart, because he was your friend and wanted to save you from a far more tragic fate, not because he felt anything more than friendship towards you and, although you had engaged in marital duties twice since your wedding night, his stubbornness to sleep in the living room made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t planning on it happening again
“Ominis.” You called, softly, as you gently brushed a strand of pale blond hair away from his forehead.
You didn’t expect him to jump, startled by the intrusion despite your gentleness. He immediately sat up, his pale eyes shooting open in panic.
“It’s me.” You told him, to reassure him and it seemed to worked, his body immediately relaxing as he recognized your voice.
“What’s the matter ? Is everything alright ?” He asked you, suddenly worried.
“Yes… Or maybe not, actually.” You replied, hesitantly. You looked over your shoulder to the portrait of his family, watching you with cold stares and haughty faces. “Can we talk… In private ?”
“Of course.” He nodded, getting up from the couch to follow you out of the living room. You went upstairs, down the dark corridor that led to your bedroom - his bedroom - out of habit, it was the only place in the manor where you truly felt safe, no portraits or house elves to spy on you.
He closed the door after himself and you began to nervously pace around the room, unsure of what to say. You had tried to talk to him all day long with no avail, not that he didn’t listen, you always had his full attention whenever you opened your mouth to speak. It just that you were terrified of his reaction and the effect it might have on your marriage.
“It’s terrible, Ominis.” You warned him, still walking around the room as he stood still by the door, his head following the sound of your footsteps on the creaking floor. “I’m so sorry, you can’t imagine how bad I feel, I never meant for this to happen.”
“Now you’re scaring me, darling.” He said, worry in his tone and etched on his face. “What is going on ?”
“I don’t want to hurt or upset you, I really am so sorry…” you continued, heart racing and chest heaving in panic.
“I could never be mad at you.” He stated, as if the very idea of it didn’t make any sense to him. “Whatever it is, you can trust me, I can hear it…”
“Oh no, Ominis, you’re going to be mad. Furious even. And you’ll hate me.” You assured him, as tears began rolling down your cheeks. You gasped as you felt his hand on your wrist, gripping you tightly to stop your frenetic pacing of the room. He pulled you closer, forcing you to look at him, which made it even worse. How were you supposed to tell him such a tragic news when you were certain to see the disappointment and anger on his face in reaction ? Your best friend had been nothing but kind to you and you had betrayed him, how could he forgive you ? And with such a wound in your still fragile marriage, how could he ever love you afterwards ?
Because that was the worse of it all, the idea that he’d never love you as much as you loved him. He was a loyal friend who had sacrificed his future for your sake, agreed to be married to you for the rest of his life so that you wouldn’t have to be with his brother and you had had the audacity to believe that, with time, his feelings for you might evolve into something more than friendship, especially when he had agreed to be intimate with you, not once but twice… But the doubt always subsided; did he do this only because he was a good friend who couldn’t refuse you anything you demanded ?
That question had been haunting you for days, keeping you awake on most nights as you tortured yourself with the guilt you felt for forcing him in an arranged marriage and for wanting him to love you back so desperately.
But it didn’t matter anymore, anyway. Not with the unforgivable betrayal you were about to confess to him.
“I can assure you, darling, there’s nothing you could do that could make me hate you… So please, tell me what it is all about.”
You looked at his handsome face, his angel-like features and the worry he felt, so visible in his absent stare. You knew that you were going to ruin everything between the two of you and it broke your heart. The pain you felt in your chest felt like the stabbing of a burning knife, keeping you from breathing properly. You gasped for air but the bedroom suddenly seemed devoid of any, the sobs stuck in your throat making it even harder to fill your lungs. You started panting desperately, your body trembling. You were going to die, you were sure of that.
Ominis reached out to hold your other hand in his and guided you to his bed, making you sit down on the satin sheet as he took place next to you, his grip tightening on your hand. You felt his fingers gently brushing off some of the tears streaming down your face but it wasn’t enough to calm you down. You held his hand and gripped his arm with the other, digging your nails into his skin as you suffocated in panic. You felt lightheaded, as if you were about to faint and at this point, it almost felt like a welcomed reprieve…
Suddenly, you felt your new husband’s lips press on yours, interrupting the flow of your desperate gasps for air. It was a gentle kiss that only lasted a few seconds and, as soon as he moved away, you took a deep inhale, your lungs finally filling up with the air they so miserably craved.
“My apologies, I didn’t know what else to do to help.” Ominis said, as he wiped some tears away from your cheeks once more, before brushing your hair out of your face. You couldn’t deny that it had worked wonders, your breathing slowing down and your heart beating more steadily. “Now please, tell me what happened.”
“I have reasons to believe that…” you started, taking a break to inhale once more, nervously staring back at his pale eyes. “I might be pregnant.”
“Ah.” was all that he said. You searched his face for a reaction, some kind of emotion but he stayed impassive, blankly looking in your direction.
More tears escaped your eyes. It was the end of your friendship. The end of your marriage. The end of everything.
“I’m so sorry, Ominis. I really didn’t mean for it to happen, I know you wanted your bloodline to end with you.” You told him, your words interrupted by sobs. “I never meant to betray your trust like this…”
The sound of your cries seemed to knock him out of his shock, both of his hands reaching out to cup your face.
“Please, calm down. I cannot bear to hear you cry.” He said, his voice soft and warm despite the terrible news you had just shared with him. His touch was impossibly gentle as he placed another soft kiss on your lips, probably just to ensure you wouldn’t suffocate in panic once again. “It’s not your fault, I’m the one who’s been imprudent, I should have been more careful, it’s just that you are so… Perfect. I couldn’t help myself.”
“Then don’t hate me, please.”
“Never.” He stated, without hesitation. He silenced one of your sobs with another kiss, pulling you into a hug. You closed your eyes in his embrace, feeling relived that you had told him the secret you had been keeping for days, although you still couldn’t imagine him being anything other than angry because of it. Yet, he showed no sign of being upset - or feeling anything, really - focused on kissing you each time a cry got stuck in your throat.
As time went by, you ended up lying down on the bed, your head resting on the soft pillow and your body relaxing into the mattress, an exhaustion you had never felt before taking over you. Ominis stayed close, lying next to you with his arm resting over your body, some sloppy kisses shared as his hand slowly started wandering under your nightgown.
You weren’t sure how it had came to this, how could he still want to touch you knowing that you may be growing his heir in your belly ? How could he be so calm about it all when he had made it clear that it was the one thing he didn’t want to happen ? However, one thing you knew was that you had no intention of stopping him. Especially if the bold way his fingers were exploring your body was meant as a last moment of weakness before never speaking to you again.
He squeezed your breast between his fingers, probably noticing as well as you did how much more tender your flesh was compared to usual. You gasped as he pinched your unusually sensitive nipple, which had turned a few shades darker in the last few days. He apologized for his roughness by placing a wet kiss on your lips, before moving his mouth to the crook of your neck, peppering your skin with burning kisses.
You closed your arms around his shoulders, holding him close for a moment before moving to switch positions, straddling his legs as his head fell back on the pillow. His chest was heaving rapidly when you popped the buttons of his shirt open one by one, revealing the pale skin of his chest. You gently caressed your way down to his trousers, working on the buttons down there while his hands slowly caressed their way up your legs and thighs.
Once you were able to free his erection out of his pants, it stood gloriously straight up and hard in front of you, the soft pink tip glistening with his arousal. You gave it a few stroke with your hand, watching as he closed his eyes and opened his mouth in reaction, breathing heavily. You couldn’t think of anything more gratifying than seeing him like this, enjoying himself, because of you.
You tugged your nightgown up as you moved and gently lowered yourself on him, feeling his erection easily sliding inside you, stretching out your entrance and pushing past your walls until you could be fully seated on top of him.
“We shouldn’t.” Ominis breathed, his face clearly saying the opposite.
“I’m not sure it matters anymore.” You replied, instinctively placing a hand on your stomach. He groaned as his tip hit the deepest part of you and you left out a quiet whimper, loving how he filled you up so perfectly.
His hands flew to your hips, his fingers digging in your flesh as he guided you off him in an upwards motion. You believed he wanted you to get off of him for a moment, until he pulled you back down onto him with strength, causing his cock to slam inside you.
You pushed on your knees to repeat the same motion over and over again, following the pace he set, feeling an intense pleasure already building inside you.
“Goodness, I love you.” He breathed, eyes shut, head in a daze.
“What ?” You stopped yourself, sitting down on him, wanting to make sure you had heard him correctly before allowing your heart to burst with joy.
His eyes shot open, his expression mortified. You stared at him, waiting for him to say something, anything, and you could almost see the gears in his mind turning trying to come up with a proper explanation.
“I guess there’s no point keeping it a secret, we’re supposed to spend a lifetime together after all.” He admitted, carefully chosing his words as his cheeks turned pink. “So you might as well know that I love you. I’ve been intrigued by you from the moment we met, I’m not sure when my feelings turned into… something more, but I do know that my love for you is unconditional and irrevocable.”
It was your turn to be frozen in a shocked daze after hearing his confession, unsure of what to say or how to react. Earlier, you were convinced that he was going to detest you for the rest of your lives so such a turn in the situation was confusing and unexpected to say the least.
“Of course I do not expect anything from you, I’ve always known my feelings were unrequited and it is fine by me if it remains that way, I just thought that you ought to know…”
“Unrequited ?” You repeated, astonished. “Ominis, I’ve had feelings for you for years !”
“You… Really ?”
“Absolutely ! But you’ve always been so cold and distant even as a friend, I certainly didn’t think you felt anything for me.”
“Well, it seems we’ve been quite foolish to not talk about this sooner then.” He stated, still so serious while you left out a happy giggle. You leaned forward to kiss him, feeling his arms coming around you to hold you close.
You slowly started moving again, foreheads pressed against each other, his warm breath caressing your face with each of the low grunts of pleasure that came out of his mouth in reaction to the way you were swaying your hips on top of him. It felt even better this way, the short circular movements allowing you to feel his entire length and full girth inside you, exquisitely moving back and forth.
You weren’t that far from climaxing when he thrusted his hips upwards under you, adding more pressure to your tantalizing moves, making you cry out as the bubble of pleasure at your core imploded and your whole body was submerged with bliss. You heard him groan as he came too, fully releasing himself inside you as the consequences no longer mattered, his fingers still digging into your hips so strongly that it almost felt painful.
You collapsed on top of him, burying your face in the crook of his neck as he attempted to recover from the intensity of his pleasure. You were already partly asleep in his arms, feeling blissfully safe and comfortable, when he turned over to get his satisfied cock out of you, before pulling the covers over your body and planting a final soft kiss on your lips.
You woke up as the morning rays of sunshine illuminated the bedroom, your head still swimming in bliss despite the soreness of your body. You turned to your side, to avoid facing the bright sunlight and to snuggle up against Ominis but, as you outstretched your hand to the other side of the bed, you didn’t find anyone else between the sheets.
A noise almost startled you, forcing your eyes open. You rubbed them a few times, struggling to sit up on the mattress as you found a shirtless Ominis, filling a heavy looking suitcase with various items from his bedroom. It took you a moment to realize what he was up to, but when you did, your heart sank in your chest.
“Are you leaving ?” You asked him, your voice breaking the silence of the bedroom, making him freeze in place. He threw a few more books inside the trunk before turning around to face in your direction.
“We are leaving.” He replied, approaching the bed.
A wave of relief hit you, happy that he wasn’t planning on going anywhere without you. A man who didn’t want to have kids would have fled during the night without looking back but Ominis was a gentleman, and he wasn’t just any man, he was your husband.
“And where are we going ?” You asked, as he sat down on the bed and you leaned to kiss his cheek, making him smile.
“Wherever you want to go, darling, as long as it is somewhere our families won’t find us.”
“So you’re planning on running away ?” You knew he had thought about it many times before, leaving without looking back so that he could be free from his family and no longer carry the burden of being a Gaunt. You often felt guilty about it, imagining that he would have done it after graduation if it weren’t for you and your arranged marriage to a Gaunt, leaving him no choice but to stay to make sure you wouldn’t be a victim of his family’s famous cruelty…
“It’s about time I do.” He stated, holding your hand tightly in his. “With all my savings and the few precious items I own, we should be able to live comfortably, far away from here.”
“And what about… The baby ?” You inquired, almost in a whisper. You hadn’t talked about it since you had dropped the news and you felt somewhat worried of his reaction if you reminded him about it…
“The baby won’t lack anything, neither will you. We’ll settle down somewhere comfortable and my family will never know of his existence. Our children will be safe.”
Your heart warmed at his words, joy bursting out of you in a stream of happy tears. The plan was perfect, there was nothing you wanted more than to disappear from society, be free from your families’ expectations and live a simple life, with the man you loved… And the babies you may be blessed with.
“I packed what I thought useful but I’ll leave it to your care to chose the outfits you’d like to take along.” He explained, standing up from the bed to get back to his task because he knew he was so easily distracted whenever he started touching and kissing you. “I have a few items to fetch from my father’s office. Then, we can leave whenever you are ready.”
You agreed and he placed a tender kiss on your forehead before leaving the bedroom. You stretched and got up, freshening up and getting dressed before opening the wardrobe’s doors wide and surveying each of your pieces of clothing one by one.
Once you were done choosing the most practical and appropriate outfits you owned, you giddily left the bedroom to go downstairs where you believed Ominis would be waiting for you. But instead of finding him excitedly waiting for you in the hallway, with all your and his belongings packed up, the first silhouette you saw wasn’t his and your heart jumped. You hurried downstairs to stand by Ominis’ side, straightening up although Marvolo’s cold and twisted gaze always made you feel in danger.
“I see you and your wife are about to leave on a little vacation, a honeymoon perhaps ?” The oldest Gaunt stated, his eyes on the luggage waiting by the door. “I’m sure mother and father would love to know where you are going.”
“Don’t worry about it, they know.” Ominis lied, his tone cold, as his arm protectively came around your waist, pulling you against his body.
“Do they ? Mother seemed pretty determined to keep you both locked up in here until your wife produced an heir… Unless ?” His deranged eyes dropped to your belly which you couldn’t help but cover with your hand in reaction, as if you could protect your unborn child from his abominable uncle that way.
“This family won’t get an heir from me. Not now and not ever.” Your husband declared, but you clearly noticed he wasn’t as determined as he used to be about it.
“It’s fine by me.” Marvolo shrugged, his gaze still on you but clearly focused on something else now. “All that matters to me is that you give me back what belongs to me.”
“Such as ?”
“Such as the precious ring on your wife’s finger.”
“Father gave me this heirloom as a present for the wedding and I gave it to her.”
“It should have been mine, I’m the eldest son.”
“Father knew that you wouldn’t take care of it properly, that’s why he gave it to me. What do you want that ring for, anyway ? Pay up a gambling debt ?”
You noticed how tensed Ominis’ body was against you, his hand ready to grab his wand to defend himself against his brother. You saw a sadistic smile appear on Marvolo’s lips and sure enough, he pointed his wand at both of you, Ominis pulling his out as soon as he heard the familiar noise.
“I won’t let you steal it from my wife.” Ominis said, determined.
“And I won’t let you leave with it so it seems there might be an issue here.” Marvolo retorted.
“It’s alright, you can have it !” You interrupted , pulling the ring off. “But you have to let us go and not tell your parents about it.”
Marvolo seemed amused by your request, maybe because you had gave in more easily than he had expected but you didn’t want to see them duel each other over a ring, as pretty and special as it looked.
“Deal.”
Ominis sighed as you took a few prudent steps towards his brother, placing the golden ring and its black gem in the palm of his hand. He didn’t thank you but smiled at you in a way that caused a cold shiver to run down your spine. He slowly closed his fingers over the ring and walked away, the tension still subsiding in the atmosphere.
“Let’s hurry up.” Ominis finally said, grabbing the suitcases and your hand and guiding you out of the imposing Gaunt Manor. He looked worried, your escape suddenly more rushed than planned.
“Do you not trust Marvolo to keep his word ?” You asked him, trying to follow his large footsteps in direction of the iron gates of the propriety.
“I don’t trust Marvolo for anything.”
The morning was cold and quiet as you followed your husband into the unknown, hopeful to make it far away from his family and yours before anyone was alerted of your unexpected travel plans. You felt nervous about it, but at least there was one thing you knew for sure; as long as you were with him, then you had everything you could possibly need.
“Ominis ?” You called, softly, making his head turn in your direction to show that you had his full attention. “I love you.”
A smile illuminated his face despite his apparent apprehension and his zeal to get as far away from his family’s manor as possible, his face momentarily softened as he squeezed your hand in his, brushing his thumb over the mark that his heirloom had left on your finger.
“And I love you more.”

" But daddy, I love him "
Mattheo Riddle x Fem!Potter!Reader
Masterlist
Part 2
Summary: Harry finds out his sister is dating Mattheo Riddle Ft. James, Lily, Remus, Sirius - No war au }
Wc- 5178
Cw: Use of {Y/N}, a lot of people saying a lot of mean things, sexual themes cussing}
A/n: Possible part 2 later
Mattheo Riddle had a reputation for himself. Everyone knew him bloodied before they'd seen him presentable. A Hotwire, fizzling and popping, just waiting for the next person to cross him in a way he deemed punishable, ‘the muggle way.’
He never truly had a distaste for muggles or muggleborns, but they stayed clear of him regardless. Voldemort's son was like a cautionary tale told through the halls, of just how ruthless and unhinged death eaters could be. His mother, Beatrix Lestrange, in Azkaban for life for such cruelties, his father had a name no one dared to say. That left very little to the imagination, or maybe just too much?
Another thing about Mattheo Riddle, he never said what he was thinking, he only acted. So no one knew the true boy outside of his blinding rage, insatiable flirting and the horrid legacy his parents so carefully wove for him. No one, aside from you.
It wasn't supposed to be this way, truly, it was just an assignment.
“I have a student, he is failing in my class, but I know he has so much potential to do better.” McGonagall began. “If you tutor him, I will give you credits towards one of your less favorable classes.”
Was it bribery? Yes, was it technically against school policy? Most definitely. Were you going to say no to free credits for the history of magic? Absolutely not.
You should have been clued in, when she didn't tell you who you were tutoring, but like your father and brother, your eye was on the prize. Instead of a snitch, however, yours were the new napping opportunities in your least favorite subject.
You were told by the professor that the study sessions would take place during dinner, and you were allowed to request food from the house elves before or after the meetings. You had to wonder; why was this student getting all these special treatments? And what did you have to do with it? Imagine your surprise when you walked into the library when dinner was taking place, only for your eyes to land on the candle lit silhouette of Mattheo Riddle himself.
You knew him, of course you did, his father had tried to kill your entire family, while you didn't endure the worst of it, Merlin, you were still in your mothers stomach at the time, your fathers horror stories of the DeathEaters and the recounting of the night was so etched into your brain you could likely recall it as if you stood in that room. The day your father saved the wizarding world, by simply, picking up his wand from the couch when he opened the door.
Despite it all, you tried not to judge him by the actions of his father, so that the only thing you had left were the numerous bloodied fights he'd been a part of since he walked through the doors of Hogwarts. Not to mention the amount of broken hearted witches that clung to his heels.
Though, now, as you stared at him across the empty Library, he seemed so… peaceful. Calm and reserved, maybe it was the yellow light, or maybe it was the way he seemed to be genuinely enraptured by whatever he was reading. Sitting patiently, just waiting. Waiting for you. You quickly snapped out of your daze, walking forward to stand in front of him.
Mattheo lazily glanced up before his eyes widened slightly and his mouth opened a bit in slack shock. “Potter.”
“Riddle.” You acknowledged him. He didn't seem offended or bothered by your presence, more, confused. There was an easy silence between you two before you gestured to the seat beside him. “May I?”
“... be my guest.”
That's where it all started. Mattheo was nothing like who you thought he'd be. He was respectful, kind, studious and incredibly clever. You had to admit, Minerva was right, he had incredible potential beyond what he seemed to think of himself. He just needed time to sit down and work, instead of his usual activities, and whatever impression he was trying to make for himself.
Your meetings were frequent, and his grades started to improve. As you got closer, the change in his behavior in class was the first thing you noticed. He began to actually work in potions, probably the only class you shared being a year younger and a Griffondor. You heard from Harry that he had actually scored higher than most of their shared class in Transfiguration. Though, it was a comment out of malice, you couldn't deny how it made you preen with pride.
In the halls you were strangers, but in your personal nook of the library, you were a deadly dynamic. He was a flirt, you knew that before, but he never said the raunchy things he'd say to the girls in the halls he'd flirt with, to you. The occasional comment on your eyes or your calligraphy, maybe some that toed the line of platonic study buddies. You figured that was how he showed affection, but you had no real reference point for it.
If it was another thing that you knew about Mattheo that not many others knew, it was that he adored praise. All forms of it. He would get bashful and try to hide away from it, but you would see how much harder he tried to impress you everytime. You found it amusing, you would hear the teachers praise him and he'd simply shrug it off, trying to play it cool. But in those private moments between.. friends, when you were revising his essay, with mutters of, “That's a spectacular way to look at it, Riddle.”
And
“That's brilliant. You're brilliant.”
He would turn as red as a tomato. It made you smile. This was the version of him no one else could or ever would have. It made you cocky, it made you want more of the secret Mattheo, the one he only showed to the closest people.
~~
You had gotten so used to Mattheo’s presence. He had stayed out of trouble, been doing wonderfully in his classes, and he still insisted on your study dates. Said they were the only thing keeping him interested in the classes he took. Ever the flirt.
You guessed being used to Mattheo Riddle of all people was the first part to an awful downward spiral. You had fallen for him. Hard.
You first noticed when he had to cancel one of your meetings. He was passing you in the hall, two Prefects had him by his forearms, and Snape was rattling on about a proper punishment for him. He had a cut lip and a gnarly battered nose. You were on your way to the library to meet, but when you made eye contact with him you visibly deflated. He had that stupid cocky look on his face, teeth stained red as he winked at a few girls he passed, focusing on anything but Snape’s words.
When his eyes met yours, however, his lips twitched and his eyes lost their twinkle. Like a puppy being told no. Or properly, a boy ashamed. And he should feel ashamed.
You had forgotten who he was when you weren't buried in your books. So for the first time in weeks, you were at the Gryffindor dining table, across from Ginny and Seamus, poking at your food in disinterest. Surrounded by friends and family, and yet so incredibly lonely. Ginny eventually caved to your moping, looking over with a loud click of her tongue.
“{Y/N}?” She called over and your eyes flicked up and an easy smile took over your face. “Ginny?”
“It's good to see you, you've been avoiding the dining hall for a while now.” She teased and leaned her legs forward to lock her ankles around one of yours to keep you in place. You couldn't help but give a cheeky grin at this.
“Well, I would argue anything is better than being forced to watch you make heart eyes at my brother.” You shot back and Harry looked up from his plate curious, met with the view of you being smacked in the face with a bun.
“Hey!” You challenged and grabbed your own bun before you heard your head of house clear her throat behind you. Slowly, you set down the bread and looked back at her as she gave you a quizzing look. Clearly confused by you being there, asking with her eyes. Not even having noticed the gluten assault.
“Rain check.” You remarked and shrugged before she let out a simple ‘ah’ and walked off. This just set off Ginny’s and now Harry’s curiosity.
“What was all that? Thought you were meeting a boy, if I'm honest, now I'm not sure.” Ron mumbled and Harry tilted his head at you.
“Ew, don't say that, that's my baby sister.” Harry huffed and looked over at you. His expression said it all. “What have you been getting up to?”
You stared at him before slowly smirking, leaning your chin on your palm. “Huh, well, me and Ginny are the same age-”
Then, another bun, to your face, courtesy of your brother. “That's enough out of you.” He huffed.
~~
That's how you got here. Sitting in the forbidden woods, trying to demonstrate to Mattheo how to use a patronus, something your parents showed you when you were younger. Your study rendezvous has long since become time to study more than just your core classes. No one else was around, just you two, while everyone else was hidden away in the grand hall eating.
“So, firstly, this is a spell that most wizards and witches cannot use. So don't be afraid if you never come to pass.” You explained and he rolled his eyes playfully.
“Right, if I'm not past the level you were at as a toddler, end my misery early.” He teased and you gave a playful scoff and crossed your arms. “Not a toddler, just 12.”
He rolled his eyes with his own smirk playing on his lips. You found yourself staring at the peak of his teeth, threw his lips, you felt your entire body respond in kind. “To be fair, you don't need to feel self conscious, I mean, I am leagues above you, even now.”
He gave an offended gasp and put his hand on his chest. His smirk turned wolfish as he walked up to your side. “Is that a challenge, Potter?”
“Define a challenge, I usually just call it confidence.” You quipped and he gave you a once over, you rolled your eyes fondly.
“Okay, minx, I get three tries. If I summon my patronus, you have to go to Hogsmeade with me this Sunday.” He mused and leaned into your space. You smirked and stood taller, wetting your lips before you glanced from his eyes to his lips then back. “Let's hope you prove me wrong then, Riddle.”
He did not. Prove you wrong, that is.
Once you told Riddle about the happy memory clause, he seemed less confident. He wasn't even able to produce sparks, and got increasingly agitated with each failure. Usually, he would pull out a smoke and take a break, and you were curious as to why he didn't.
Every other day before you grew close, you would spy him smoking with his friends in the courtyard, but when you mentioned you hated the smell in the library, he started to hold off until after to smoke.
At least, that's what he told you. He would not tell you the truth, that the moment you told him you hated the smell he chucked the last box he had into the black lake.
Mattheo went through his life without any real care. He only ever experienced fear, anger, and disappointment directed at him. He had his friends, Draco, Theodore, Pansy, even Blaise but none of them were particularly affectionate. Past his playful flirting with Pansy, that he now used as a reference for your friendship, he didn't truly have positive influences on his emotions.
Usually, that would result in him using a poor girl or two to get over whatever he was hung up on. Then, he met you.
Out of everyone, he figured you had reason to hate him most. His father tried to kill your family, his mother killed your parents' friends, his current friends bullied your brother, and he was assumed a death eater before proven one. But that night, he was proven wrong for the first time, when you sat down next to him and smiled. He had never seen something so breathtaking, something that was meant for him.
He had felt for women before, physical and emotional, but never had he experienced you. In all honesty, he never truly looked at you before. You were Harry Potter’s sister, that was enough reason to stay away. Merlin, did he fuck up.
Being friends with you was hardly acceptable, but falling for you? It made him feel all the more pathetic. Knowing he was falling for someone who would never think of dating him. Here he was, making the worst mistakes of his life over and over again.
“Don't get in your head about it.” Your voice called him from his thoughts. He snapped out of it and looked at you. You tilted your head and smiled, hands on your hips in determination. You had taken off your robe, as if to say you meant business. Sleeves rolled up to your elbows and wand brandished. “Just think about something that makes you happy. Happy enough to smile at nothing.”
“Smile at nothing?” He muttered in an amused tone. Breathing you in like fresh air.
“At. Nothing.” You insisted and waved your wand. “My memory is when my dad took me to visit my grandparents' graves.” You hummed and he gave a startled laugh.
“Morbid, darling.”
“Oh, not like that.” You laughed. “I listened to my dad talk about them, like, all the time. Mum too.”
You gestured to the pond and his eyes followed yours. “My dad made it easy, it felt like I was really meeting them, ya know? He talked about me and Harry like we were the most important things in his life. I think I felt his love for them in me too, but towards him. I just felt so lucky.”
Mattheo stared at your awe filled eyes and he gave a small sigh through his nose. It was out of fondness, of course, but he couldn't deny the bit of jealousy that perked up in his chest when she said that. “Yeah.. lucky.” He mumbled.
You looked back at him and your face fell a bit. You had just spent the last two minutes rubbing your fathers love in his face- Merlin. You slowly gave a cautious smile, considering he was still staring at you like you hung the stars. It maked your ears grow hot and your nerves light up.
You reached over to graze his hand, and he seemed to snap out of his trance, slowly, he wrapped his hand around yours, his calloused fingers covering your hand fully. You guys sat like that for a moment, before you raised your wand higher and stepped closer. Leaning your head against his chest and waving it.
Your patronus whipped out of your wand, the fox wiggling its nose in greeting before she ran around you two in circles. You began to laugh at her enthusiasm, and Mattheo even gave a chuckle. Your eyes on your patronus, his eyes on you. How was he going to win anyway? He was making his happiest memories now.
“I think I can try again.” He whispered and you looked up at him, your patronus vanishing behind you as you lost your focus. He was giving you a look you had never seen before, it was almost dangerous, how easy it was for him to make a mess of you.
“You think?” You couldn’t bring yourself to say anything above a whisper. He pulled you flush against him, taking the dazed look you were giving him as confirmation. You wanted him too. He could have fainted.
“Want to help me?”
“How?”
You got your answer, in the form of his lips pressing so gently against yours. It was electric, your entire face grew hot and you forgot how to breathe for a moment. His hands found a firmer grip on your waist and you slowly wrapped your arms around his neck. You lost yourself in the kiss, letting him lead as he clearly had more experience.
Mattheo couldn't help it, maybe this wouldn't be a mistake. Maybe it was only fair. Being with you made him feel human, like just another boy falling for just another girl. He wanted to feel like this forever. Normal, with you.
He did not try again that night, far too distracted.
~~
You met him like that several more times, dinner study bled into evenings, innocent touches became intimate, and bold teases became hushed whispers in his dorm room. The very dorm room you were coming back from now. Walking back just after curfew.
When you made it back to the common room the first thing you noticed was your own reflection, your hair was frazzled and your uniform was creased. You found yourself wondering how all of that could happen from just a kiss. Followed by a few more. And then some more,, you could completely understand how it happened, actually. You’ll remember it forever.
Once you fixed your appearance, the second thing you noticed was Harry sitting on the couch with a parchment on his lap, next to him was a nervous Ron and a shockingly ridgid Hermione. Harry’s eyes were on you, Ron’s was on his hands, and Hermione was faking reading a book. You pause before you made it to the stairs, slowly walking over to the three. “Hey you guys! What are we up to?”
“Nothing, just been waiting a few hours.” Harry snarked and you narrowed your eyes in confusion. Suddenly you remembered, you had agreed to meet the trio out for Quidditch practice, they had managed to just get enough people for two full teams, guilt filled your chest.
“Shoot, Harry I am so-” Before you could even start to grovel he stood up and Hermione sighed, Ron quickly speaking up.
“Where were you?” Harry demanded.
“Come on, Harry.” Ron tried to interrupt. “At least not in the common room.”
“What?” You whispered and Harry shoved the parchment in your hands. It wasn't just any piece of paper, it was the map. Your fathers map.
Your jaw went slack and you looked up at Harry, Your guilt was quickly overturned by anger. “Were you stalking me!?” You exclaimed and thanked Merlin the common room was empty this late.
“I thought something had happened! Don't deflect! Where were you?!”
“None of your business you slime!”
“You come out of the Slytherin dorms with Voldemort’s son and it's none of my business?” He whisper hissed, You scoffed.
“Yes, none of your business!” You snapped back and threw the map on the ground. “I don't have to answer to you! And his name is Mattheo!” You hissed back and stepped on the charmed paper, dragging it under your heel. “You’d do best to remember that. I'm not a bloody kid, Harry!”
“You're my sister!” He challenged and you scoffed.
“He's a monster! A Slytherin, his parents are horrid, and our-”
“Do not say another word, Harry.” You threatened as you began to stomp off to your dorm and he huffed. Kneeling down to pick up the parchment and dust it off.
“I’ll make it easy for you.” He called over and you turned to face him with a glare. “You break up with him, or I’ll tell father over the summer.”
Your face fell and your heart stopped. Harry had this look about him, like he didn't want to be doing this, but yet, he was.
“You wouldn’t-” You spoke slowly and Harry sighed.
“Two days.”
~~
Those two days were blissful hell. You weren't going to break up with Mattheo, there was no way in muggle hell you were going to willingly give him up.
You did try to talk to him about it, however, several times. At least to warn him why he may have a war hero Auror setting a bounty on his head soon. Your father was protective, far more than you thought was necessary, but he treated everyone as black or white. Usually, everyone was allowed his love and care, that being said, Voldemort was a sore subject.
You would say you were trying your best, but Mattheo was so… Mattheo. He was hard to talk to. A very… physical person? He would complain about how you would be leaving the school in mere days for summer, followed by you being drowned in kisses and wandering hands.
Merlin two days was not enough. Next thing you knew, you were home, in your room, counting the minutes until your mother called you down for dinner.
You began to bite your nails, scrunching up your face when you bit down too far. You sighed as you heard Lily call you and Harry down.
You walked into the hall to see Harry waiting at the top of the staircase for you. He looked regretful, but stern. “Harry-”
“I’ll give you the chance. To tell them yourself.” He mumbled before he walked down the stairs. You mentally prepared yourself and walked as slow as you could down the stairs. Not noticing as Harry glanced at your neck.
When you walked into the dinning room, your heart dropped. Your mother, father, Uncle Moony, and Uncle Padfoot were all at the table. You cursed and clenched your jaw, Harry stared down at his plate and you sat beside him by Remus. You gave your mom a small thank you as she served you. Sirius and your father were making jokes about their Quidditch days after Harry bragged about their most recent win. You relished in the moment, before all hell broke loose.
You asked your father a question about the story, just trying to seem engaged. He lit up at your interest, turning to face you fully. “Well! When you're a beater, there is this unspoken rule that everyone follows and.. what the bloody hell is that?”
You narrowed your eyes at his sudden tone change. “What?” You whispered as you looked around the table, all eyes were on you. You took a shaken breath and bit your cheek. “I-”
“That's a hickey, dad.” Harry muttered and took a bite of his food. Your face fell and all the blood left it.
“A what!?” He exclaimed and fixed his glasses on his face, you quickly covered your collarbone. Sirius gripped his silverware, hard, taking a steady breath. “How old are ya, hun?” He asked and you snapped your attention to him. Stuttering and stammering for a moment.
“I think the better question is, who did that? It's bloody horrific.” Remus muttered and you stared up at him with wide, horrified eyes. “U-uncle Moony!”
“Boys, calm down. She's 16, and James, we talked about this. Our kids will be dating soon, I mean, Harry has that Ginny girl and you never fuss at him.” Lily tried to defend and James scoffed.
“This is hardly the same! I raised him! I don't know a thing about this boy!”
“Or girl.” Remus smirked and James felt his face fall in shock and you groaned, slowly covering your face.
“Remus.” Lily hissed out. “James.” She warned before Sirius spoke up.
“Fine, fine, it's all fine. I mean, what harm could he do? We've taught her everything she needs to know about the world. Probably some Hufflepuff boy.” He tried to dismiss, and Remus, ever the instigator tonight, spoke up again.
“I'd be shocked if a Hufflepuff did that to my nieces neck.” He mumbled and James began to breathe quicker and heavier.
“Right, right, fine. You're being safe, right?” He asked bluntly and you groaned, melting into your seat. “Please, anything but this conversation right now.”
Lily gave a small fond smile and tutted at the boys. “Well honey, you should invite him over this summer break. I'd love to meet him.” She offered and then Harry gave a laugh. You shot him a look. “Don't you dare.”
“Dare. Very much dare, Harry.” Sirius quipped and Harry looked at you with a pursed lip before he sighed and spoke up. “Don't think you'd want him here is all.”
“Harry.” You warned, Lily sighing. “Harry, you stop that right now.”
“What? I'm just being honest, dad and padfoot hate Slytherins.” He mused plainly, and James dropped his silverware.
Sirius gave a laugh, throwing his head back before it slowly died out as he saw your red face. “No-”
“Why does his house matter?” You scoffed. “Not all Slytherins are the same.”
“Yeah, just so happens that he's just the type dad hates.” Harry muttered before he took a sip of water. “Happens to be one he particularly-”
“Harry James Potter!” Lily shouted at him and he had enough sense to seem guilty. He looked down as you tried to sink deeper into your seat.
“I had a feeling.” Remus spoke up and you looked at him in shock. He gave you a side eyed glance. “You had a quidditch jersey in your bag. You don't play and certainly not for Slytherin.”
You looked down at your hands on your lap as your father shouted. “Why didn't you tell us, Remus!”
“This,” He gestured with his fork towards his husband and best friend. “You're terrifying the poor girl. I saw the name, I have to agree with Harry, you'd lose it.”
“What?” James snapped and Lily slammed her hands on the table. “Will you cut it out? All three of you! Do you want her to hide things from us forever? She'll tell us in her own time.”
Sirius groaned and began to pick at his food. “Whatever. As long as it isn't Malfoy.” He huffed and you shyly shook your head. Sirius gave an exaggerated groan of relief. “Thank Merlin.”
“Who did that, sweetheart?” James prodded with a warning glare from Lily. “James.” She whispered and they locked eyes. They held that look before he clicked his tongue.
“I asked you a question, niffler.” James prodded, and Lily slowly closed her eyes, covering her face.
“Dad, I really think-”
“Your dad asked you something.” Remus suddenly spoke up and you looked over at him to meet his eyes. Then it hit you. What he had said moments ago. He knew.
“I-”
“Y/N.” Sirius prodded and Lily gave you a sympathetic look. She could command your father on a lot of things. But never about you and Harry.
“Mattheo. Mattheo Riddle.” Harry suddenly spoke up, and your blood ran cold. You sunk as deep as you could into your seat and Lily gave a squeak of surprise, before covering her mouth. Remus thinned his lips and clenched his jaw.
“No you aren't.” James said simply and you covered your face.
“{Y/N}. No you aren't.”
“Dad, please.” You sniffed, overwhelmed. You sat up and straightened yourself. “He isn't some, bad guy-”
Remus scoffed and Sirius slammed his fist on the table. “His father-!”
“He isn't his father!” You challenged, shooting up from your seat and glaring at your uncle. “You of all people should understand that!”
“Watch your mouth.” James hissed and stood up as well. You scoffed and threw your hands up. “I don't understand! He's done nothing wrong! Nothing to any of us! I get that he's not this image you had in your head of what you wanted for me-”
“Dorcas.. Marlene.” Your mother whispered and your body stiffened. You looked over at your mother and your heart broke at her distress. You reached out and she sniffled, dismissing herself. Your shoulders fell and you looked back to your father.
He was staring at you with a look you've never seen.
“Dad-”
“Your room. Now.”
“Dad! That's not fair in the slightest I-”
“Room!” He boomed and you sniffled before running off. Slamming the dining room door behind you as you walked upstairs.
It would be a long summer.
~~~
Mattheo was missing you. He had been missing you for days now. You said you would write to him, but he didn't get a single letter. He figured it was likely you were busy, you did have a family to distract you after all.
So, he wrote you a letter instead. He didn't want to think about how desperate it sounded, how desperate he was for you. He didn't look over it more than once before he sent it.
Little did he know, the second James heard an owl outside, he shot to his feet and hurried to intercept it. You were ever oblivious, in your parents room as you and Lily shared one of many heartfelt conversations over the brief summer. Your mother was doing her best to understand, but it was trouble, trying to believe he wasn't doing this for some master plan down the line. You both went quiet when you heard your father call you both.
When you walked into the parlor room, you sat down on the couch, You looked at the table in front of you and grimaced, You'd know that parchment anywhere.
There was a long pause, before James spoke up. “The last time I saw this parchment, it was a letter Beatrix Lestrange sent us in our third safe house. Telling us she knew where we were, and that she was coming. Coming to kill your family, {Y/N}.” He leaned forward and picked up the letter and you refused to look him in the eyes.
“It’s nostalgic, really. But these words? ‘I yearn for you. I look at my textbooks from over the years and I wonder what it would be like to have you read them to me’.” He declared. “ ‘You made even the most complex of spells doable. You made things doable’.”
Your mother couldnt help but smile a bit at his words. You grimaced.
“Charming, isnt it? If only the rest of the letter wasnt riddled with innuendo of what this fuck wants to do to my daughter.”
You winced and sighed, the grimace not leaving your face. Mattheo that.. Idiot.
Then,, your mother began to laugh, and James looked at her from the corner of his eyes. “What? Is this funny?”
“Quite.” She smirked. “Sounds like the letters you would send me in school. I used to burn them.”
He scoffed and leaned back in his seat. “That makes me feel fantastic. He’s a bastard like I was in school.”
“Well.” Lily spoke slowly. “Look at us now.”
Lily looked over at you just in time for you to glance up and meet her eyes. She smiled sweetly before she continued. “I think its sweet.”
After a good night's sleep, I think I can better solidify my thoughts in regards to the Dragon Age trailer.
First, let's start with the positives:
- Companion diversity: This has always been part of the series' DNA that has been clearly depicted with every iteration, so those who cry foul over "Asian & Black elves", prosthethics, etc etc...I really don't get that, because values and sensibilities evolve over time. Even the series itself has course corrected when needed, eg. Player character creation influencing the family ethnicity of the Couslands in DA:O vs the Hawkes in DA2.
- Unlocked romances: Letting players choose whoever they want to romance regardless of their sexuality and race has always been a positive for me. Allowing everyone to enjoy the experience equally is great (and I'm sure the nuances of player race & gender will be addressed through dialogue and banter). Moreover, CRPGs are long and time-consuming, so to be locked out of character romances mid-way through is never going to be a good time (from personal experience and observing fandom in the past).
Now the negatives:
- Maybe it's me being on the older side of the Bioware fandom (15 years in Dragon Age, 20 years if you count older games like KotOR and Jade Empire), but I cringed very hard watching the trailer. If you followed the development of this game in the past decade, the cancelled live service element that was to be DA4 in one of its iterations was so all over the way the companions were introduced that it brought out a visceral reaction in me. The tonal whiplash from how foreboding Dreadwolf was presented in the past to the patronising happy quippy MEET OUR LITTLE GUYS YOU'RE SURE TO LOVE also did not help as a first concrete look of what to expect after all this time (also poor anachronistic choice of soundtrack when you already have Trevor Morris' compositions right there). I was so dismayed when they went with a looter-shooter-esque lighthearted vibe when they could've leaned hard on the foreboding established mood and momentum they've already got going with Dreadwolf.
- The branding switch this late in the game that comes with it, especially one as drastic as this will always come with questions and ambivalence. I feel that mitigating uncertainty from announced changes (party number, combat mechanics, setting and environment, etc) should've have been prioritised to reassure existing and lapsed fans before appealing to new ones in such a jarring way.
- I'm simply baffled at the marketing suit who signed off on whatever this is to be their "best foot forward" at reintroducing the final form of this game? If only there were confident with the world they've already built instead of relying on trendy gimmicks, the amount of damage control I'm seeing prior to the gameplay reveal tonight was so avoidable. Controlling the narrative from the get go is so very important especially now as opinions can easily snowball overnight into behemoth-like proportions especially from bad faith actors. You would think that lessons were learned from DA:O's "THIS IS THE NEW SHIT" and DA2's "Press a button, something AWESOME happens" debacles.
(The thing is, despite it being my least favourite DA out of the three, imho Inquisition has the best marketing campaign in the franchise despite the developmental troubles going on in the background. So it has been pulled off successfully before!)
- I think the Bioware layoffs, especially the recent extensive gutting of senior staff in September 2023, significantly depleted my goodwill as a fan. To see Varric being paraded as a mascot in the trailer, game promotion and supplementary media while having his creator unceremoniously let go after years of building the franchise we love left me so very cold. And it's a me problem, but seeing many other fans barely acknowledging that save for few hollow words before getting back into the fun frustrated me so much. I get being excited to finally get something solid after years of false starts, but with what was lost along the way...I personally don't feel right to approach this installment without cynicism.
Idk, I'm just a bundle of conflicted feelings over this series I guess? When it's so good, it's really good and stays with you as memorable gaming experiences that stays with you for life, but when it stumbles and fumbles the bag...it hurts to see.
#dragon age#dragon age critical#I'm not good with words but I'll try to articulate my thoughts anyway#so i can process it out of my system
That It Is (Astarion)
Pairing: Astarion x Reader [Baldur's Gate 3]
Summary: After a long day trudging through the sunlit wetlands, you discover your bedroll is waterlogged, and that Astarion has lost his in the swamp... AKA, the classic: ‘oh no, there’s one bed, whatever shall we do, darling?’ (Act 1 spoilers).
A/N This one has a tad more enemies-to-lovers vibe to it, but sweetness nonetheless.
Masterlist
Night was creeping over Faerûn.
After a day of toiling through the deep murk of the sunlit wetlands, your party had found refuge: an abandoned shack a little ways inland from the swamp. It was unassuming enough through the fog that Gale had tripped over its porch, and even Astarion’s darkvision had missed the contours of the old building tucked away.
But once scoped, you found that the place was empty. Shadowheart deemed it safe enough for you to unpack your bedrolls and dry your waterlogged boots. So you did just that—even managing to rouse a fire with an ignis and a few pieces of damp wood.
The flames took a few moments to blaze to life, but once they did, the warmth was heavenly on your skin. One by one, you started to shed your wet outer garments, laying them out by the fire.
“Oh, bloody hells!”
A voice rang out over the crackling hearth. You turned to find Astarion on his knees, rummaging through his supply pack half-deranged.
He flung the contents out onto the floor: some soggy books, a cask of water, pristinely-folded clothes. Then he promptly turned the pack upside down, seemingly devestated to find nothing else inside.
The rogue threw his hands up. “Gone,” he declared, with a dejected sort of laugh. “Be it just my luck after trudging through this gods forsaken waste—”
From the corner of the room, Shadowheart stopped wringing out her gloves. She gave you a look. Deal with him, she said through the shared connection.
With a sigh, you conceded. “What’s wrong, Astarion?” You stood over the pale elf, hand on hip, “Broken a nail?”
Irritation painted his face, but his demeanour remained playful.“Ha! Hilarious as always, my dear,” he replied, without sparing you so much as a glance. “Alas, I’m afraid my situation is a tad more dire.”
You clicked your tongue. “Go on.”
Astarion stood up, taking a moment to dust himself off. “It seems I’ve lost my bedroll somewhere in that bloody marsh,” he finally admitted.
Somewhere across the room, Shadowheart’s snort was quickly covered up by a faux cough from Gale. “Oh?” you said, “I thought elves didn’t need to sleep.”
Astarion shot you a glare. “And do you need to dry your clothes by the fire? Need to eat tonight or, gods forbid, drive us half mad with your infernal singing sometime tomorrow?”
He stalked the cabin, pointing vivaciously at your drying garments, and menial rations you’d hoped wouldn’t spoil.
You felt your brow furrow at his display. “No need to be rude,” you said shortly. “Today’s been hard on all of us.” Pushing past him, you quickly retrieved your own pack from its place near the door. “Here—just take mine.”
Fishing around the bag, you searched for your own bedroll before producing it for him. Astarion let out a sound of disgust.
“You could at least try to be grateful, Astarion,” you started. Then you felt it; your trusted bedroll squelched in your hand. It was pasted with a layer of thick algae, and some other mysteries you couldn’t discern. “Son of a—” you cursed. How had you forgotten when it rolled into the marsh earlier in the day?
A hand found your shoulder. “Thanks for the generous offer, my dear, but I think I’ll pass,” Astarion said, proudly. He then flicked a rather large leech off your bedroll, causing Gale to shriek when it landed at his feet. “I’d like to remain the only bloodsucker around here.”
You were about to quip back, when Astarion stepped closer—enough so that his breath dusted your cheek when he spoke. “And I think I spy a bed in the other room. That should do me just fine.”
It took you a moment to unravel his words. By the time you did, he’d already traipsed halfway across the cabin. “Hang on a moment,” you called after him,“I already staked my claim on that earlier!”
“Hmm?” the elf hummed, feigning ignorance.
The audacity. You shot a glance back at the wizard, who immediately threw his hands up in surrender. “Oh no, you don’t,” warned Gale, “I’m staying out of this one.”
To his left, Shadowheart looked equally unbothered by your plight. You scowled at them both.
It was going to be a long night.
—
The cabin was quiet. It had been some time since you had rested in a place with a roof and four walls. There were no beasties lurking near your camp, or dangers beyond the trees. The only threat to your person was Gale’s snores coming from the main living space. He’d taken refuge on the floor, whilst Shadowheart seized the chaise lounge.
It was a comfortable night. So in principle, you should have had no problem falling into a dreamless sleep. Especially given the feather bed at your back.
“You know, my dear,” Astarion whispered, “I might have agreed to this arrangement, but that was under the condition that you get some sleep.”
You tried not to startle, but his words sounded so close to your ear. It made your skin prickle with anticipation—despite doing your utmost not to show it.
“I think you’ll find I was the one who was forced to agree,” you countered, “and I’m trying. You just—”
Shifting in the bed, you turned around to face the elf beside you. He was leaning on one arm, gazing up at the wooden ceiling as though he were watching the stars. His eyes found yours. “I what?” he asked.
You could hear his grin; he was teasing you. But you wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of backing down now. “You make me nervous,” you answered bluntly.
He did not reply. Each second of silence that passed made you more and more uneasy. You couldn’t see him well in the dark. And as much as you tried to make out the contours of his face, you knew for sure discern every line on yours—every expression you hoped to conceal. “And why’s that?” he finally asked.
You let out a huff before falling onto your back. “You know why. Stop acting so smug—It doesn’t suit you."
Astarion’s laugh made its way to you. “Everything suits me, darling.”
A witty remark alluded you, so you opted to stay quiet. Sleep was what you needed right now. The gods only know how deprived you were of it.
So you plumped your pillow and made yourself comfortable. Then you gathered some blankets to yourself. A yawn left you, but your mind felt anything but relaxed. You readjusted again, this time your body pressing into Astarion's. He moved to accomodate you; you stiffened in response.
“Will you stop wriggling around? I can’t so much as move without you flinching."
At his words, your breath hitched. You were midway through an apology before he interrupted.
“Look at me,” he said.
Despite the darkness, his thumb perfectly traced your jaw until it found the space just under your chin. Gently, he coaxed your head up.
“You know I’ve drank from you, right?” You gasped at his candidness. “I've felt your pulse on my tongue and your blood coat my teeth,” he went on. “Hells, I have your thoughts swimming in my head far more often than you probably realise.”
He paused for a moment, and in that time you breathed twice as fast as you ought to.
“You’ve allowed me that much, so sleeping beside me like this?” he said, with a lightness to his voice, “that shouldn’t matter, now should it.”
You couldn't reply. His words were likely meant to comfort, but they had only the opposite effect. As his fingers brushed your cheek, you immediately pulled back—hoping he did not feel the way you burned for him.
“No. I guess not?” you stuttered.
“Good,” came his reply. “Now sleep. I promise I won’t bite”
He returned to his side of the bed, not overstepping the invisible boundary you'd drawn earlier that evening.
And on your side, you were left to press down whatever feelings threatened to bubble to the surface. You weren’t quite ready to let them out yet—not when you couldn’t see clearly the face he would make in response.
Right now, you just needed to sleep.
So you focused on the snores echoing from the other room, the rain pattering the windows, Astarion's breaths and your heart—which, without realising, had recently started to beat for him.
“Goodnight, Astarion,” you whispered into the dark.
“Yes, my dear," he said softly. "That it is."
Since the elves had been afforded sanctuary by the rings, you had been trying to busy yourself with any number of menial tasks to help ease minds, distract your own at all costs. The battle for Eregion had taken not only people’s lives, but the will of the ones who remained, and with what little of your sanity you had left you picked up where others could not face continuing.
You were inside the walls of the city when the orcs attacked, an archer on the last line of defence. The effort was futile, and it had been apparent even before the battle had begun. Watching so many of your kind fall into the clutches of death was more than you had bargained for, and something you wouldn’t soon forget. Your quiver and bow laid at your side, a piece of you unwilling to part from them still.
Now in the safety of the valley, you had set up a small tent, where people could come to have their ailments tended to with a preferred level of privacy. You were no healer, but they were few and far between in present company, so you did what you could. The curtain of night had been drawn for some time, the first time since the end of the battle, and the amount of patients had dwindled into nothing a few hours ago while the sun still clung to the horizon. You were organising what few resources you did have, crouched to view the label of each vial in the small cabinet, and you missed the light scratching of the tent canvas as it slid open.
Your name was called from behind you in a quiet voice, almost sounding like a plea. You turned, finding your beloved friend Elrond standing rigid in the doorway of the tent, his eyes dark and unmoving from yours. His name left your lips in a hoarse whisper as you took in the sight of him. His skin was marred by dirt and blood, a gash cutting him open along the cheekbone, his posture uncharacteristically slumped and hair falling loosely around his face. He still wore his armour from the battle, painted much the same as his skin.
“I did not know if you—“ he seemed to stop himself from speaking, pressing his lips together as he hung his head. His eyes slid closed, and he took a deep, steadying breath.
You raised yourself from the ground, taking a tentative step towards him, “what is it, Elrond?”
His gaze raised to you once more at the sound of your voice, and he shook his head lightly, the tiniest of tired smiles lifting his lips, “I am glad you are safe, is all”
“And you, my lord” you replied, stepping up to him properly now, and raising your hand to his chin to tip his head to the side. His hair fell across his forehead as you traced a finger along the underside of the cut, inspecting.
“Please, you know that is unnecessary” he insisted, taking another deep breath as he watched you carefully. You knew how the title irritated him so when passing your lips, the reason for its passing every time you saw him. “It does not hurt” he claimed, referring to his cut.
“I hear it’s Commander these days” you paid his comment no mind, instead taking in every small scratch that littered the surface of his skin. Your chest tightened at the sight, at the very idea of the elf before you being hurt, having death breathing down his neck. It was beyond relieving that he had made it through the battle.
Elrond’s face drew a tired expression, one of quiet exasperation at your persistence. His hand took hold of your forearm, “please, you need not fuss”
“It must be cleaned” you asserted, dropping your hands from his face and turning away.
“Melnā, I do not need—”
“Take a seat” you spoke with no room for argument, ignoring the endearment that made your heart flutter as always, “I will return in a moment”
Taking a step outside, you let yourself breathe in the night air. It really was beautiful here, the moon shining over the water and casting a cool glow along its surface, the trees gently swaying in the breeze as if cradled in its arms. You collected water from the stream just a short distance from the tent, your mind dwelling on the elf that stood just beyond its entrance.
You had known Elrond for what felt like lifetimes, and for any mortal it would have been. In all that time you had never ceased to be enamoured by him. It was quite impossible not to be. He was kind, giving without thought, an attentive healer and a good friend. Possibly that was why it was so odd that you found yourself in this position, or perhaps that was exactly why. He hadn’t come to you for healing, because that wasn’t what this was about, this was caring for him when he needed it most, whether he’d acknowledge it or not.
He’d always been affectionate with you, in a way that you could face reciprocating. It was more his words than anything, which was not surprising in the least. Though proven a cunning warrior in surviving the recent conflict, his tongue had always been far sharper than his sword. He spoke with intention only, quiet when words held no meaning, avoiding pleasantries when he could, though he always took the time to spare you words of adulation that felt unearned from such a person.
No matter his insistence in speaking it, you could not return the affectionate nickname he called you; melnā. Beloved. It was too real, striking the very deepest part of your heart, where nothing but your love for him resided, festering.
You pulled aside the canvas of the tent, venturing back inside with the pot of water at your hip. Elrond sat in the chair as you had requested, his head tilted back, eyes closed, weighted down by lack of rest. You had never seen him so defeated. His back was curled against the chair, arms hanging limp against his thighs, one leg outstretched and the other falling out to the side. It was disheartening, to say the least, that this elf you knew to be strong-willed above all else was so beaten, inside and out.
You moved silently, not wishing to disturb his moment of peace. It may be the first chance he had had since the battle, after all. You retrieved a cloth, and tentatively approached his slumped figure. It was the sound of water trickling from the cloth that drew him from his stupor. His eyes opened and found yours as you stood hunched over the pot beside him, his posture straightening, more reminiscent of his usual demeanour.
“My apologies” he murmured.
“Your apologies are unnecessary” you spoke softly, wringing out the cloth, “please, rest if that is what your body calls for”
His brows pinched a little, offering a tender look that tugged at your heart. He was so unused to having kindness offered to him, being the one that so often gave it out, that you knew the simple notion had surprised him.
He slumped against the chair once again, eyes never leaving you as you folded the cloth into a neat square; an unnecessarily proper gesture that would soon be proved pointless as the white material became riddled with dirt and blood. You stepped around the pot so you stood in front of him, and took his chin between your fingers once more, tipping his head to get a better look at the wound. As the cool cloth met the warmth of his skin, all of his breath left him in a sharp exhale.
He flinched away only marginally, evidently trying to remain still against the sting. You whispered an apology, but continued on cleaning his wound until the regular hue of his skin shone through the grime. Thankfully the cut wasn’t deep, and really he was lucky to come away from the fight so unscathed where most fell. Though it didn’t stop the way your chest tightened at the simple idea of him being hurt.
Elrond had always been collected in a particularly admirable way, but now as his frustrations could be seen peeking through the cracks of his noble exterior, you were more worried than anything. Only months ago had he been the bright-eyed elf you knew, full of a certain hopefulness that seemed unending. Now as he sat before you, his grey eyes were dimmed, as if someone had snuffed his spark, the state of Middle Earth turning them cold, clouded. Where they had been the welcome mist of an early morning, there was now a storm brewing in them.
He was much changed from who he was, and your heart broke for him.
“You are hurting” he observed in a low voice. You hadn’t known he’d been watching you so closely.
You shook your head, avoiding his gaze, “I am unharmed”
His eyebrows drew together as he turned his head, forcing you to stop your movements. “It is not your body” he claimed, taking your wrist as you tried to continue, “it is your mind”
The feel of his fingers wrapped around your skin, the unwavering scrutiny in his eyes, was dizzying. You tried to deny the way your stomach flipped, butterflies taking flight, but it was made difficult by the raising bumps along your skin, the heat that creeped up your neck.
“I did not realise you could read the thoughts of others, Elrond” you deflected, your tone light, almost jesting.
He scoffed quietly, his grip loosening on your wrist, “it was merely an informed assumption”
“Informed” you chuckled as you resumed wiping the muck from his face, stepping forward a little, “pray tell?”
“Your face betrays you” he claimed, turning his head away and spreading his knees wider for your ease.
You sighed, following the sharp line of his jaw with your eyes, clenched in pain of either flesh or mind, most likely both. You focused on cleaning the area, gently urging him to relax with smooth motions from his cheekbone down to his chin. His eyes closed with a soft breath leaving his lips, his mouth falling open.
“It troubles me to see you this way, mellon nín” you confessed quietly, “it is so unlike you”
He hummed thoughtfully, the corners of his mouth turning downwards in a deep frown, “It is just a small cut, it will be fixed in a matter of hours”
“It is not your wound that concerns me” you replied, an edge of stringency that you hadn’t intended. He looked up at you with a timidity to his gaze that was hard to ignore. His guard was up, and it was so foreign to see on his features. “May I speak plainly?”
The smallest smile reached his darkened eyes, “as if you would do anything but”
A gentle laugh escaped you, creasing your eyes with a fondness before they grew sad. You skimmed the back of your fingers over his clean cheek very lightly, and he turned to face you once more. “I am worried for you, Elrond” you whispered, “you are much changed from the elf I once knew”
He sighed desperately, hanging his head, “it is not by any great effort of my own”
“I am aware” you returned, slipping your hand under his jaw to raise his head. The shame in his eyes was hard to bear, and you stroked your thumb across his cheek in a delicate gesture. “What can be done?”
“You need not worry about me” he assured, “wrongs will be righted in time, it is the way of things.” A long breath passed your lips as you stared down at him, worry never leaving your expression. Elrond lifted a hand to you, flattening his palm against the outside of your knee and rubbing up and down in a comforting manner, “please do not fret, melnā nín“
You could feel your cheeks burn at the endearment, and busied yourself by focusing on the task at hand, threading your fingers through the hair that fell over his forehead to push it back. “You should not call me that” you muttered, dragging the cloth over his temple.
“Why?” he rebutted softly, thumb tracing over the top of your knee, “because I am ‘changed’?”
You frowned at him, not understanding the question, “because you do not use it for its intended meaning”
The statement made him sit up immediately, his back straightening so he drew closer in proximity, his chest almost flush against you, “why do you assume so?”
His sudden closeness was as startling as his words, and you were left with your hands in the air, unsure what to do with them, your mouth hanging open and trying to find the right words. “I— I do not take your meaning”
”You believe that I do not mean the words I speak, why is this?” He asked lowly, skimming his hands up the outside of your thighs, resting them at your waist.
To say that you felt flustered would be an understatement. Elrond stared up at you with determined curiosity, a soft seriousness that would make anyone feel cared for, that their words mattered more than life itself. The weight of his hands on your hips was unfamiliar, yet so comfortable, though that was not surprising. This was Elrond, after all. He was impossibly kind and purposeful at the worst of times, a dependable elf beyond measure and in all your years of friendship he had not once seen fit to slight you in any way.
Yes, friendship, because the question of more had always seemed impossible to ask, and thus been unanswered.
“We are friends, Elrond, I—”
“You are right” he interrupted, removing his hands from your body and sitting back against the chair, “Forgive me”
He rubbed a hand over his eyes as his head dropped back, sighing deeply. You didn’t know what the appropriate thing to do was in this specific scenario, but the dirt that he had smeared over his cleared skin was demanding your attention.
“Do not do that” you instructed quietly, taking the dirty hand from his face and sighing deeply as you looked upon it.
You wrung out the cloth into another basin and returned it to the fresh water, then brought it to his hand, kneeling by his side. You felt the weight of his gaze on you as you wiped the dirt from his skin, but refused to indulge in it. It was selfish to seek anything from him in this moment, when he was so broken, in need of someone to care for him.
“You are tired” he observed correctly again. He had always been able to read you far more easily than you were comfortable with.
“Everyone in this valley is tired” you deflected.
“I am not concerned with them at the moment” he spoke resolutely. You finally met his eyes, and the way they shone with intent set your stomach alive, “this is unnecessary. You require rest”
“Please” you pleaded quietly, “just— let me do this for you, just for this one time”
He exhaled softly, looking upon you with a pitiful expression as he raised his clean palm to your jaw. His thumb swiped across your cheek, but he pulled away almost right away. “I will…” he trailed off, taking hold of your forearm, “but I won’t have you stationed at my feet like this”
He pulled you up, and then directed you to sit on the arm of the chair, laying your legs across his lap. You obliged, your voice stuck in your throat, and his arm wound around your waist, splaying his palm against your lower back to steady you.
He gave you a gentle smile, “you may continue, if you wish”
You nodded, and took his other hand, quickly wiping away every inch of dirt that covered it until you reached the edge of his armour, where the skin was untouched by grime. You then raised the cloth to his neck, and much to your surprise, Elrond dropped his head back with a pensive sigh as his eyes slid closed. Watching every movement he made as you cleaned him, you became more and more entranced. His hand slid to your hip as you ran the cloth under his ear, earning another uneasy exhale, and when you reached the lip of his armour, dragging the white material just below the surface of his tunic, a small shudder wracked his body.
You had finished your work now, the visage that was once covered by dirt was clean, shining brilliantly in the low candlelight of the tent. Elrond still laid with his head back, and the exposed skin of his neck was all too tempting, beckoning you. You ran your fingers through his hair, pushing it back from his face and drawing another shaky breath from him. With the confidence that your touch was affecting him in the way you had thought, you took a leap of faith.
His skin was soft under your lips as you pressed a kiss to the side of his neck, and Elrond’s grip on your hip tightened, his breath stuttering. You placed another gentle kiss against him, this time to the column of his throat, and you watched as it bobbed in reply. Elrond’s other hand now securely held your thigh, tracing circles into fabric of your tunic, and you continued to gently press your lips to his neck, slowly exploring the skin that was now exposed to you.
“Melnā” he whispered in a soft exhale, and you felt your blood running hot.
“What is it, meleth nín?” you murmured against him, continuing to litter his skin with affection.
Elrond’s breath caught in his throat, and for a moment he was silent, his breath coming out in shallow pants, as if trying not to be heard. You paused your movements, and awaited his answer.
“I am not sure you understand what you are doing to me”
You raised your head at his assertion, meeting his dark gaze head on and trying to contain the embarrassment you felt, “I shall stop, we never need mention this again”
Elrond shook his head. “You misunderstand me” he said, sitting up so his forehead met yours, “I would not want you to do this simply because you felt I needed it”
You frowned, moving your gaze between his eyes and searching for something you weren’t entirely sure of. “I would not deny that” you spoke quietly, and watched as a flicker of uncertainty crossed his features, “but selfishly, it would not be the sole reason”
His eyebrows raised ever so slightly, and for a moment he just stared at you, as if to figure out whether or not the words had really slipped from your lips. His hand left your thigh to hold your jaw, closing his eyes as he leant into you, “it does not bother you?”
“What doesn’t?”
“That I am… different, as you say?” He murmured in reply, lifting his head so his nose gently rubbed against yours.
“Elrond…” you sighed as you took his face in both hands, and his eyes fluttered open to meet your gaze, “you are not capable of the kind of change that would squander my high regards for you, nor quell my affections”
He exhaled, and you felt the warmth of his breath against your lips, “what would you allow me?”
“Anything” you replied in a whisper, “everything”
Elrond’s arm tightened around you, and his other hooked under your knees as he slowly stood from his seat, taking you with him. He kept his eyes on yours as he made his way over to the bed you had set up, and finally you could see some of the darkness receding from them. If you were to serve as a distraction for him, with nothing given in return, then you would do it gladly, no matter the pain in your heart. You knew it was foolish, to allow yourself to be burned at his stake, but when he treated you so gently, as if you were precious, as if you’d break if he released you, you didn’t seem to care.
He placed you down on the thin mattress, moving to remove his armour before you protested. “Allow me” you directed him to sit down instead, and knelt in front of him to slip off the pieces of his armour without another word. The process felt almost religious, a ritual of sorts, each piece falling away to reveal his slender form. You stacked the pieces neatly to your side, taking care not to damage the fine craftsmanship, despite it being designed for that express purpose.
When the last piece was placed down, you finally lifted your eyes back to him. Your insides buzzed with nervous energy, but you couldn’t lose your confidence now, and so you placed your hands on his thighs, sliding them upwards as you raised to your knees. For a moment you just took him in, his weary smile, the tiredness in his eyes, slack jaw. He was so fatigued, and to offer him some semblance of tenderness in this state felt like a monumental privilege. His hands found your body, sitting comfortably at your waist, and you were snapped back into the moment.
“You do not need to do this” he reminded, gently kneading your skin to bring you closer.
You shook your head, “I want to, if you’ll allow me”
His expression softened further, “you need not ask, my love”
You nudged his jaw upwards with your nose, planting a kiss just beneath and making his body deflate in relief. You drew a slow path towards his ear as your hands slipped beneath the hem of his shirt, feeling the warmth of his skin against your palms. Every movement you made was calculated, a precise act, aimed to release any lingering tension that he held within his body. You tried hard not to lose yourself in his presence, in the natural scent of his skin, in the feel of his breath against your own neck, and succeeded by focusing on every sensation as it arose, keeping yourself present.
You slowly peeled back his shirt, allowing you access to the skin below, but before you could explore any further, Elrond’s voice cut through the silence.
“Stand for me” he said lowly, his lips almost brushing your ear as he spoke and causing a shiver to run down your back, desire pooling low in your stomach.
You obliged right away, pushing off of the floor to stand before him. First, he took you calf and slid one shoe from you, and then repeated the action for the other foot. He took hold of the ties that were holding your tunic up and slowly untied you from the material. The fabric slid from your shoulders with ease, pooling around your ankles on the floor. The chill of night, barely concealed by the tent, blew against your bare skin, nipping at you as the edge of self-consciousness did in the same moment. You were bare to Elrond now, and his hands traced down your sides as he took in the sight, a certain reverence to his gaze that sent your mind towards puzzlement.
As his hands reached your thighs, he pulled you slowly towards him, positioning you over him so you straddled his lap. Before you could continue the exploration of his skin, his own lips made contact with your shoulder, and he littered kisses downwards along your collarbone, languid motions that made your head spin. You breath caught in your throat as his hand skimmed up the inside of your thigh, and you let out a choked exhale when you felt his fingers dip between your folds. Your head fell forwards, resting your forehead against his shoulder as he continued his efforts, tracing circles around your sensitive bud, which only made your breath heavier and heavier.
You panted his name, disbelief colouring your tone, not expecting him to pay any attention to your needs. It would have been ample to care for him, but receiving it back, you realised just how much you needed it. The battle had been tough on you as well, and the way that your body relaxed under his touch reminded you of that fact.
A small chuckle left his lips at your incredulity. “You did not expect this?” He deduced correctly once again. You couldn’t answer, for the way his fingers expertly played against you was rendering you unable to speak. “You thought I would neglect you in this way?”
“I… n— yes?” you stuttered out unsurely, silenced by your own moan at Elrond doubling his efforts.
“Mm, as I thought” he teased lightly, his voice low as his lips drew near to your ear. You breathed heavily, trying to collect your thoughts, trying to keep your lips sealed for the fear of what sounds might erupt if given the chance. Not trusting yourself to stay quiet, you buried your face in his neck. Elrond hummed disapprovingly, “I want to hear you, pretty one”
Urging you on in his request, Elrond slowly slipped his fingers past your entrance, taking his time to coax every possible ounce of pleasure from you, and earning a shaky moan against his neck.
“That’s it” he cooed, his other hand kneading the skin of your waist in time with the fingers that worked inside of you, “I have you”
His words reminded you I’m an instant that this was not to be the purpose of this endeavour, and your hand flew to his wrist, pausing his movements. “Elrond, this was supposed to be for your benefit”
Elrond shook his head. “That may have been your intention” he withdrew his fingers a little before sinking them back inside, “but I can see that you are just as weary as I”
“No, I—” your hips twitched forwards instinctively as he picked up his pace, “I insist”
”Do you?” He said in an amused rumble.
You tried to regain authority over your ragged breath, some semblance of control over your body, but Elrond was playing you like a harp. He strummed the strings of your pleasure like he knew the tune by heart, every movement instinctive and adept, swells in dynamic that built up towards a climax. You were getting there quickly far quicker than anticipated. The pads of his fingers pressed against your walls, the base of his palm working your clit, and you could feel everything within you pulling taut.
“Elrond—” his name fell from your lips in a needy whisper.
“What do you need?” He replied quietly, never faltering in his pace.
“I—”
The question confounded you. Never before had you been asked such a thing, not in the height of pleasure at least. Your mind couldn’t wander far given the situation, but for a moment you tried to produce an answer for him.
“Tell me” he urged again, more insistent now, “what do you want?”
“I want—” the minor difference in wording, with the added knowledge of Elrond’s cock straining against his trousers and pressing against your leg, brought the answer to you more readily. “I want… you, Elrond” you breathed out, hips buckling against him to punctuate your point.
An uneasy groan sounded in his throat, reverberating against your cheek as you remained pressed against him. He pulled his fingers from you quickly, and within the next second he had flipped you over so you were beneath him. You reached for the tie of his trousers as he did, eager to remove the final piece of clothing that restricted him from you.
Elrond slotted himself between your legs to the tune of your small whimper, but he paused. His face hovered above you, his eyes flicking between yours, searching. It was as if he was waiting for something, but you couldn’t decipher what.
“You have not kissed me” he muttered, his eyes briefly flicking to your lips before his steadfast gaze returned to yours.
Your eyes widened a little at the observation, unsure of the waters you were about to dip your toe into, “you would let me?”
The expression on Elrond's face as he pulled back was purely scandalised, his brows settled in a deep frown, “whatever do you mean?”
“I—” you tried to find the words to express what you had previously thought, but now it all sounded ridiculous.
“You believe I do not—” words failed him in a moment of disbelief, and then his expression softened once more, his palm resting against your cheek, “meleth nín, forgive me for such unkind words, but… you are a fool”
Your brows drew together a little. He had never called you anything of the sort, but knowing him, ever intentional with his words, you didn’t doubt that he was right.
“To doubt my deep affections for you is to deny the very rising and setting of the sun. Do you truly think so lowly of me that I would allow you this without returning your desire in equal measure?”
You could only blink up at him after such a confession, but once his words began to sink in, you realised the depth of your folly. Of course the reverence in his gaze, the tenderness of his touch, was not because anyone was giving him this kind of affection, but because it was you. The thought struck you so suddenly that you became breathless, your cheeks heating. To engage in this act, usually reserved for marriage, he must have more admiration for you than you gave him credit for. Elrond was right, you were a fool.
“I do not” you spoke resolutely, “I have only the highest of regards for you”
“Then hear me now” he pressed a kiss to your forehead before continuing, “I have waited centuries to embrace you in this way. Every moment in your presence has been excruciating, longing for more than what I thought possible, waiting for the day that you changed your mind about me. Now that the day has finally arrived, I do not intend to spare you such an intimacy without knowing the taste of your lips”
“Elrond…” you whispered, reaching up to mirror his palm against your cheek, “my mind remains unchanged. This is the way I have always felt”
His eyes widened, a light scoff escaping him in complete surprise, “then we are both fools”
“I believe you may be right” you chuckled at his reaction, you hand tangling in his curls with the reward of a delighted sigh. The look of contentment on his face was enough to melt you into the fabric of the sheet you laid upon. “You are so beautiful, melnā”
Elrond rested his forehead against yours, “what ever beauty I possess pales in comparison to the fortune of looking upon such fair features as yours”
“Such flowery words” you lips quirked, teasing his lyrical ways.
Elrond chuckled, skimming the pad of his thumb across the skin beneath your eye, “you are worth the time it takes to speak them, my love”
At long last, Elrond brought his lips to yours. He kissed you firmly, deeply, every bit of his usual sincerity woven into the action, and you quickly lost yourself in him as you had aimed to prevent before. His hands roved your body in featherlight touches, mapping the shape of you as his kisses grew more insistent.
Soon he began to explore past the bounds of your lips, traveling along your jaw. His breath ghosted over your ear, pausing for only a second, before he gently brushed his lips against it. Your breath caught in your throat, almost choking by the uneasy rhythm of it as he grazed his teeth against your earlobe. It was the first time anyone had ever touched your ears, and the gesture was so uniquely intimate, so undeniably pleasurable, that you couldn’t help the way your finger’s tightened in Elrond’s curls.
You wrapped your legs around his waist, drawing his body closer. The both of you moaned in tandem as his hardened length came into contact with your core, Elrond whispering a curse as he buried his face in your neck. He repeated the action with more intention, taking hold of his cock to run it through your folds, slick with arousal. Your breath shortened as he circled your clit with the tip, your mind becoming hazier. Elrond lifted his head and pressed his forehead to yours, and you felt his shaky breath against your lips. The question was clear in his eyes, asking for your permission, and you tightened your legs around him to reply.
His tip passed your entrance, stretching you open in the most pleasant way. The melody of your moans only intensified as he slowly sank into you, his hand gripping your hip tightly. His eyes were screwed shut, and he swore under his breath again, his lips brushing yours in the process. He released his hand from your hip, smoothing over the skin that he had held so tightly, as if to soothe any hurt he had caused. If he had, you hadn’t noticed.
Elrond pulled out almost completely, before he sank back in with a slow roll of his hips. He set a steady pace at first, both of you just revelling in the feel of being so connected, so close. He brought his lips to yours once more, taking his time to really taste you, to feel every movement so deeply.
His hands smoothed down your sides as he pulled away slightly to gaze down at you, goosebumps raising under his touch. “You are so perfect” he spoke reverently, his tone nothing short of worshipping, and you could feel your cheeks flush, even now. The change in angle had your back arching, and as a heavy moan left your lips, Elrond gripped your hips tightly again. It seemed that something in him snapped after that, any restraint that he had demonstrated melted away, and letting what desire coursed through his veins take ahold of him.
His pace was fracturing then, his breath heavy against your skin as he leaned over to paint affection across your collarbone and chest. His fingers danced along the skin of your abdomen, taking a path downwards that had you already writhing at the anticipation. He drew tight circles around your clit, and combined with the feel of his cock dragging against your walls, hitting the deepest parts of you, you were ready to come undone in a matter of seconds.
“That’s it, meleth nín. Let go for me” he whispered against your ear, the added sensation of his lips against the sensitive area making your orgasm rip through you almost immediately.
Your vision blurred, white hot bliss searing through your veins as you were pushed over the edge, and Elrond followed you over, letting out a low grunt as he spilled all of himself inside of you. He held himself over you as he regained his breath, meeting your eyes again and letting a fatigued grin lift his lips, his eyelids heavy.
You pulled him down and into a slow kiss, your hands on the back of his neck, gently tugging at the curls at the base of his head. He brought his forehead to yours as you broke the kiss, and wound an arm around your waist to hold you tightly to him.
“You know…” he began, something playful in his eyes, mouth twitching with a smirk, “in the eyes of some, this would make us husband and wife”
You chuckled, wrapping your arms around his neck, “I think I could live with people believing that”
Elrond hummed amusedly, gently tracing his nose along yours in a tender gesture. “Do not think of this as my proposal” he murmured, “one day, I shall ask you properly”
Gil-Galad, Thranduil, Elrond, Celeborn versions below.
🏵️𝓖𝓲𝓵-𝓰𝓪𝓵𝓪𝓭
The sun had begun its slow descent over Lindon, casting the land in warm hues of amber and deep gold. The sea breeze carried the soft scent of salt and pine, but as you stepped into the courtyard where Gil-galad stood, it was not the evening air that captured your attention—it was him. He had just finished his duties for the day, the weight of kingship still lingering in the way he carried himself. The regal composure, the quiet authority—yet when he saw you, some of that tension eased. A small, private smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he opened his arms.
You wasted no time, stepping into his embrace, pressing yourself against the steady warmth of his chest. His arms wrapped around you, firm yet unhurried, as if anchoring himself in the moment. The faint scent of metal and parchment clung to him from a day spent in counsel, but beneath it was something unmistakably him—cool night air, aged cedarwood, and the faintest hint of something warm, something that made your stomach flutter.
The scent was intoxicating. As he began to pull away, you found yourself lingering. Your arms remained looped around him, and instead of letting the hug end, you buried your face into the curve of his neck, inhaling deeply. Then, just as he shifted slightly in question, you inhaled again—this time more deliberately. A second, deeper sniff.
And then another. Gil-galad went utterly still. “…My love,” he murmured, his voice edged with both curiosity and amusement, “what exactly are you doing?” But you couldn’t answer yet. Not when the scent of him wrapped around you like the coziest, most luxurious thing you’d ever known. Your breath came out in a pleased hum, and, without thinking, you nuzzled just a bit closer, taking one final, slow inhale.
Gil-galad exhaled through his nose, his grip on you tightening subtly. You could feel the slight rumble of a restrained chuckle vibrating in his chest. “So,” he said at last, voice smooth yet touched with unmistakable mirth, “this is what greets me after a long day of ruling? My beloved, utterly helpless against the way I smell?” You gave an unapologetic sigh, finally leaning back just enough to meet his gaze. “You smell so good,” you admitted without shame, your hands still resting on his shoulders.
His brows lifted slightly, his deep blue eyes gleaming with restrained laughter. “Good enough to forget proper decorum entirely, it seems.” You grinned. “You’re my king, yes, but you’re also my Gil-galad. That means I reserve the right to sniff you whenever I please.”
He tilted his head, a soft hum escaping him. “A bold declaration.” Then, after a brief pause, his expression softened into something even more unreadable—something fonder, quieter. His hand lifted, fingers brushing lightly along the curve of your cheek before he leaned in, pressing the barest kiss to your forehead.
“If my scent brings you such joy,” he murmured, dangerously close now, “perhaps I should make a habit of holding you longer.” Your breath hitched. Gil-galad smirked—just slightly—as if he knew exactly what effect he had on you. And then, to your utter delight, he pulled you back into his arms, this time lingering on his own accord. And you? You took full advantage of the opportunity to inhale to your heart’s content.
A pause. Then, with unmistakable teasing “Shall I bottle it for you?” You swatted lightly at his chest, but it only made him laugh again, his voice warm as the twilight. “Very well,” he murmured, pressing a lingering kiss to your forehead. “Take all the time you need, meleth nin.” And so he stood there, patient and unbothered, allowing you to remain wrapped in his scent, in his warmth, in him—for as long as you wished.
🍷𝓣𝓱𝓻𝓪𝓷𝓭𝓾𝓲𝓵
The halls of the Woodland Realm were ever bathed in twilight, the golden glow of lanterns casting soft pools of light against smooth stone. The scent of moss, aged oak, and distant rain curled through the corridors, but none of it—none of it—held a candle to him. Thranduil moved through the halls like a shadow of silver and deep green, his robes whispering with each step, the weight of his presence unquestionable. He was a king, a ruler of untold centuries, with matters far more pressing than lingering in corridors—but when he crossed paths with you, that ever-so-slight shift in his gaze, that flicker of acknowledgment, was enough to make your heart stumble.
A greeting was expected. A simple exchange before he continued on his way. But instead, he surprised you—just slightly—by pausing, allowing your fingers to brush his arm before you both leaned in for a fleeting embrace. A rare gesture, fleeting—until you caught his scent. Oh. Oh no. The scent of him was nothing short of divine. A deep, rich blend of aged cedar, cool river lilies, and something elusive—something uniquely, intoxicatingly Thranduil. It struck you like a gust of autumn wind, wrapping around you, curling into your lungs like a siren’s call. He moved—elegantly, effortlessly—to break away.
But your body? Your foolish, lovestruck body had other plans. Before he could fully retreat, your hands tightened ever so slightly against his back. You tilted your head, pressing your face into the curve of his neck, and inhaled. Deeply. A slow, deliberate draw of air, savoring the way he smelled—like the wild heart of the forest itself.
Thranduil stilled. You barely noticed. You were too lost in the scent of him, the way it made you melt. So, naturally, you did what any reasonable person would do—you sniffed again. Harder. And then again. And—oh, Valar help you—again. A low breath escaped him—not quite a sigh, not quite a scoff. His hands, once poised to leave you behind, now hovered at your waist in bemused hesitation. Slowly, ever so slowly, his head inclined just enough to glance down at you, eyes sharp with unreadable scrutiny.
“Meleth…What,” he said, his voice smooth as darkened glass, “exactly… do you think you are doing, meleth?” You didn’t answer. You couldn’t. How could you, when you were currently melting into his scent, your brain too busy dissolving into a puddle of sheer bliss? Instead, you gave one more shameless inhale, your grip slackening as if he might as well carry you off because you were done for.
A pause. Then—a chuckle. Low. Soft. Entirely too amused. Thranduil let his hands settle fully against your waist, fingers ghosting over your sides as if contemplating whether you were utterly ridiculous or simply his problem now. “You are insufferable,” he murmured, but there was a thread of something dangerously close to fondness beneath his words. Then, as if to prove a point—to remind you who, exactly, you were indulging in—he turned the tables.
Before you could react, his lips barely brushed your temple, and in the same motion, he inhaled. Slow. Deliberate. A mirrored indulgence. Your breath hitched. Oh. Oh no. Thranduil hummed, a smirk flickering at the edges of his mouth. His hand lingered at the small of your back, just enough to remind you that you were well and truly at his mercy now.
“If you wished to drown in my presence, meleth nîn,” he mused, far too pleased with himself, “you needed only ask.” The boldness of it sent warmth rushing to your cheeks, and you huffed, tilting your head just enough to glare at him. “You act as if you are not enjoying this just as much,” you shot back, refusing to let him have the last word. A brow lifted—a silent challenge. “Do I?”
You narrowed your eyes, lips pressing together as you contemplated your next move. And then, with all the defiance in your heart, you sniffed him again. Hard. Thranduil let out a slow breath through his nose, a mixture of amusement and exasperation. “You are impossible,” he murmured, but his hands hadn’t moved from your waist. If anything, they lingered, as if betraying his own indulgence in your presence as you giggling.
“And yet,” you teased, pressing a lingering kiss to the cool metal of his collar, “here you are, suffering me still.” A silence stretched between you, thick with something neither of you dared name. Finally, Thranduil exhaled a sigh, tipping his forehead against yours for the briefest of moments before he murmured, “Go, before I decide to keep you here all evening.” You smirked. “Perhaps I wish to be kept.” His fingers curled against your sides—just once, just enough for you to feel the unspoken promise in his touch. “Do not tempt me, meleth nîn.” And with that—he left you there. Warm, flustered, and utterly wrecked.
📜 𝓔𝓵𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓭
Elrond had just finished his duties for the day, the weight of governance and counsel finally lifting from his shoulders as he stepped into the quiet sanctuary of his chambers. The evening air carried the faint scent of Rivendell’s gardens—floral and crisp, mingling with the ever-present undertone of parchment and candle wax that lingered from his study. He had removed his outer robes, now dressed in a long, flowing tunic of deep blue, the fabric soft and well-worn with age. The flickering glow of candlelight cast golden hues across his sharp features, but as soon as he saw you, the tired lines at the corners of his eyes softened, his lips curving into something warm, something meant only for you.
You stepped forward, drawn by the quiet intimacy of the moment. Without hesitation, he welcomed you into his embrace, arms wrapping securely around you, his warmth enveloping you like a protective cocoon. His touch was steady, his breath even, as though he were anchoring himself to you after a long day of duty and thought.
But the moment your face pressed against the side of his neck, something shifted. His scent—deep, woodsy with hints of parchment and ancient ink, warmed by his own natural essence—was intoxicating. You felt yourself relax completely, melting into him, the scent making your heart flutter in a way you hadn’t expected. It was grounding, familiar, and entirely him.
As he moved to part from the hug, you resisted. Your hands tightened slightly against his back, and instead of pulling away, you leaned in further, burying your face against the curve of his neck once more. You inhaled deeply, this time with intent, savoring the warm, rich scent of him. A soft, appreciative hum left your lips, and before you could stop yourself, you went in again—this time slower, deeper, taking him in like he was the rarest perfume in all of Middle-earth.
Elrond stilled. There was a moment of silence, and then you felt his chest rumble with a quiet chuckle. Amusement flickered in his voice as he spoke, low and smooth against the shell of your ear. “You linger, meleth nín,” he murmured, the barest hint of a smile threading through his tone. His hands traced a slow path up your back, his touch indulgent, as though he found your reaction both endearing and intriguing. “Has my scent bewitched you so?”
You didn’t answer immediately—too lost in the sheer comfort of his presence, too content to do anything but take one last lingering inhale before sighing against his skin. “I cannot help it,” you admitted, tilting your head slightly to look up at him. “You smell so good.” His brows lifted slightly, his expression equal parts amused and pleased. His fingers drifted to your chin, tilting your face up so he could study you. The corner of his mouth twitched, eyes twinkling with something mischievous, something ancient and knowing.
“Then by all means,” he murmured, lowering his head so his lips ghosted over your temple, “breathe me in, meet. I am yours to linger upon.” He allowed you to stay nestled against him, his hand threading through your hair as you relaxed into him completely. There was no rush to move, no urgency—only the quiet understanding that in this moment, he was exactly where he wished to be.
Elrond let out the smallest hum, and though he did not move to stop you, there was something entirely knowing in his expression now, the way he tilted his head just enough to regard you with quiet interest. “though I do hope you do not plan to make a habit of ensnaring me so the moment I return from my duties.” His tone held all the dignity of a lord of the Eldar, but his hand at your lower back was holding you closer, betraying the fact that he did not entirely mind your little fascination with him. In fact… perhaps he found it rather endearing.
“…No promises,” you murmured, utterly unwilling to let go just yet. Elrond only sighed again, this time in soft acceptance, and let you continue your little indulgence—his hands smoothing slow circles against your back as you all but melted into him, your lips curving into a blissful smile against his throat.
🩵𝓒𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓫𝓸𝓻𝓷
The soft glow of the fading sun filters through the golden leaves, casting shifting patterns on the forest floor. Celeborn holds you in a lingering embrace, his arms firm but gentle around your waist. The scent of the wood—earthy, fresh, with the faint floral whisper of Elven magic—lingers in the air, but beneath it all is him.
At first, it’s just instinct. A light inhale as you rest your head against his shoulder, taking in that uniquely Celeborn scent—clean rain, old parchment, and something deep and green, like the heart of the forest itself. It’s grounding, comforting. But then, as he begins to pull away, you realize oh no, that wasn’t enough.
Before he can step back completely, your hands tighten just slightly against the fine silver embroidery of his robes, and you tilt your head in, pressing your nose against the juncture of his neck and collarbone. A deeper inhale this time—gods, he smells even better up close. Celeborn stills immediately. You can feel the faintest hitch in his breath, a pause, a flicker of understanding at what you’re doing. His head tilts just slightly, his long, silver hair shifting against your cheek as he exhales in what can only be described as the softest, most bewildered chuckle.
“My love…,” he murmurs, his voice a warm, amused hush. His hands rest lightly against your back, as if unsure whether to let you continue or to pull away with bemused dignity. But you don’t stop. No, now you’re melting—your second inhale is even deeper, needier, like you’re trying to commit the scent of him to memory, or absorb it into your very soul.
Celeborn’s hand drifts up to your back, stroking absently as he huffs out another breath. “Are you sniffing me?” You make a small, completely undignified sound against his skin. “Mmm-hmm.” His fingers flex at your waist as he shifts, and you can hear the smile in his voice. “Is that—oh, Valar—is that why you’ve trapped me here? So you may indulge in…” He pauses, his deep voice taking on a teasing weight. “More thorough investigation?”
You nod without shame, nose still buried against his skin. “You smell so good,” you murmur, voice practically dreamy, drunk on the sheer essence of him. Celeborn sighs, the long-suffering sigh of a dignified lord whose reputation as a wise and venerable Elf is currently being dismantled by the sheer ridiculousness of his lover burying their face in his neck like an affectionate cat. Still, he doesn’t pull away. “Must you?” he asks, voice carrying that particular tone—the one that suggests he already knows the answer but asks anyway, out of principle.
You nod against his shoulder. “Mhm.” Another deep inhale. His fingers tighten slightly at your back, and then, very deliberately, he leans back just enough to look at you—his silver eyes calm, patient, but glinting with something wry. “Are you done?” You shake your head. “Not yet.” His lips twitch. “Of course not.” Yet, despite all his sighing and supposed exasperation, he doesn’t pull away. No, he simply tightens his hold just a fraction, as if resigned to his fate. “If you must,” he says, voice low and indulgent, “then make it count, meleth-nîn.”
And with that, he tilts his head, ever so slightly, allowing you just a little more access—because, as much as he pretends to endure this with patience, his hand remains firm at the small of your back, keeping you close. (And if, later, Galadhrim sentries witness their Lord standing amidst the golden trees, being dramatically ensniffed by his lover, well… Celeborn will simply pretend he does not see their knowing glances.) 🤣
"Love, listen to me. I'm not gonna spend another night like last night. I can live without my weapons but I can't live without you. You're my wife, my partner, and I love you. Let's go work this thing out."
Y/N felt her cheeks heat up as the entire café fell into a stunned silence. Her husband!orc stood tall by their coffee table, broad-shouldered, his tusks gleaming in the soft overhead lights. His deep green skin was flushed slightly—a rare sight, because her husband wasn’t the type to get embarrassed. He was the type to fight wars, to swing axes, to stand his ground no matter the odds. And yet, here he was, standing in front of her with his hands clenched into fists, his voice raw with emotion.
Her friends, a mix of elves, humans, and even a fae or two, exchanged glances. A few stifled giggles, some sighs of admiration. The fae girl, Liss, clutched her heart dramatically.
"Gods," she whispered. "I wish someone would say that to me."
Y/N swallowed hard.
Her orc, her husband, was still waiting for her to respond. His chest rose and fell with steady, controlled breaths, but she could see it in his eyes—the vulnerability, the desperation.
She had needed space, yes. Last night had been a disaster. Heated words, stubborn silences, a slammed door. She had left before dawn, needing time to think. And now, he was here, in front of her, laying his heart bare for everyone to hear.
“Love,” he said again, softer this time. “Come home.”
A teasing voice chimed in from the side—probably Ryn, the elf with zero self-control. “Y/N, if you don’t get up and kiss him, I swear I will."
That broke the tension. Someone else laughed. Y/N’s lips twitched, but she still hesitated.
The orc sighed and ran a hand through his thick black hair. “If I need to get on my knees in front of all these people, I will.”
Gasps. More giggles. Liss nearly swooned.
Y/N finally exhaled. “You wouldn’t.”
Her orc locked eyes with her. “Try me.”
Her heart stuttered. Damn him. Damn how much she loved him.
She stood up, slowly, feeling everyone’s eyes on her. Then, with careful steps, she crossed the small space between them.
And before he could say another word, she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face in his chest.
His arms came around her instantly, holding her tight, solid, unshakable.
A satisfied hum rumbled in his chest. “Good,” he murmured against her hair. “I wasn’t leaving without you.”
From behind them, applause erupted. Someone cheered. Someone else sighed wistfully.
Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn’t help smiling. “You’re impossible.”
“I’m yours,” he corrected, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “And I love you.”
She squeezed him tighter. “I love you too."
The café was still buzzing with excitement as Y/N held onto her husband, feeling his warmth, his steady heartbeat beneath her cheek. His arms wrapped around her like they were made for this—for keeping her close, for anchoring her when she felt lost.
"Okay, okay, break it up, lovebirds!" Ryn, the elf, smirked, tossing a sugar packet at them. "Some of us are still tragically single and would like to enjoy our coffee without choking on the sheer romance of it all."
Y/N huffed a laugh against her husband’s chest before pulling back slightly. Her orc, however, didn't let her go. He loosened his grip just enough to look down at her, his golden eyes filled with something fierce and unyielding.
“I meant every word,” he murmured, brushing his thumb along her cheek. “No more nights like last night, alright?”
She swallowed, nodding. “Alright.”
Liss, the ever-dramatic fae, sighed dreamily. "By the stars, Y/N, if you ever get tired of him—"
"I won’t," Y/N cut in swiftly, making her friends chuckle.
Her orc grunted, clearly unimpressed by their teasing. He turned his gaze to the group, his expression still serious. “I don’t know what she told you all, but whatever it was—” his eyes flicked back to her, softer now “—it wasn’t enough to make me stop fighting for us.”
The table went silent again, this time in admiration. Even Ryn, the usual instigator, placed a hand over his heart.
“Damn,” he muttered. “That’s some real, proper devotion. I’d be blushing if I wasn’t jealous."
Y/N felt her throat tighten. She had never doubted her husband’s love, but hearing him say it like this, in front of everyone, with such unshakable certainty… it made her stomach flip.
Her orc let out a deep breath. “Can we go home now?”
She bit her lip. “Let me finish my drink first?”
He sighed, but there was a fondness in his eyes. “Fine.”
And just like that, he pulled out the chair beside her and sat down, his large frame dwarfing the small café chair. One arm remained draped over the back of her seat, keeping her close, his presence grounding her.
Her friends watched with undisguised fascination.
“You’re staying?” Liss asked, arching a delicate brow.
He shrugged. “My wife wants space, so I’ll give her space.” His fingers idly traced circles on Y/N’s shoulder. “But I’m not leaving without her.”
Ryn let out a low whistle. “Gods, Y/N, marry him again.”
She just smiled, leaning into her husband’s warmth.
Maybe she would.
Until Death Do Us Part
Summary: Harvey and you have been on a rocky road lately, but hopefully, you can still find each other.
Pairing: Harvey Specter x Reader
Word count: 932
Warnings: stablished relationship (reader and Harvey are married), mentions of body image struggles, hints at +18 themes.
Masterlist
"No. Absolutely not." Your husband frowned when you came out from the closet wearing your 'costume'.
A huff of annoyance leaves your lips.
"What the fuck is wrong now? Did I gain weight and suddenly you can't get up or something?" Venom drips from your sarcastic remark and Harvey rubs his temples.
"Why are you like this? Jesus Christ, Y/N, it's not about some shit like that, stop trying to make me a bad guy at every given chance!" He snaps. "It's just your stupid wings, okay? You look like you came straight from a Barbie movie, when you said you'd like to roleplay being a fairy, I thought you'd use one of those Lord of the Rings-"
"Those are elves. Not fairies. They don't have wings!" You seethe, taking your plastic wings off and accidentally pressing the light button on them, turning the pink leds on, and Harvey's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"I'm sorry if my knowledge in a fictional world lore is lacking, it's because I actually have a real job."
That was cruel and uncalled for and he knew it. Harvey had a bad habit of saying the most callous things without even thinking. It didn't help that he hated the idea of roleplaying from the very beginning.
"How could I forget, it's the only thing you care about!" You raise your voice, and it breaks in the end. "Tonight was supposed to be fun!"
Harvey immediately regrets the jab he made at your wings. Well, it's not that he couldn't get himself to be motivated by you while you were wearing them... It's just that it was fucking weird because he was a grown man and he was pretty sure his kid niece wore the same pink fairy wings every Halloween.
And he could explain that to you, but you just had to make a self deprecating comment about your body and imply that he wasn't man enough to look past his partner putting on some weight.
Which was another ridiculous thing, because, seriously? He couldn't care less if you were a size 2 or 20. It didn't matter. He married you because he loved you, inside and out, and you weren't an airhead that couldn't carry on a conversation with him. He respected you. He was interested in what you had to say (most of the time, at least).
But for months now, you two have been fighting nonstop, and more than often saying some hurtful shit to each other and no longer searching for the comfort of each other's arms in the middle of the night.
He wondered if your sudden self consciousness regarding your body was because you've been stress-eating ever since the chasm between you two was created.
Harvey was selfish, harsh, arrogant and snappy, but he wasn't insensitive to how women sometimes had insecurities that ate them alive.
He sighed, following you in the closet, his chest tightening at the sigh of your angry tears while you put on sweatpants and a top (the sleepwear you wore on nights you made sure no intimacy was gonna happen).
He even agreed on going to therapy with you, which he thought was an admission of defeat, that you two weren't mature enough to solve your problems on your own.
"Honey." He called, his voice soft with regret.
He hates the 'homework' your therapist gives you every week. A dinner date, a little getaway, a road trip, sitting down and talking for an hour. He feels like his own relationship is being scripted and that you can't find common ground anymore.
"What?" You wipe your tears, unable to look at him in the eyes.
"We don't roleplay." He said in a teasing tone. "Why would I want you to pretend to be someone else when you already exist?"
He gently holds your face in both hands, wiping the remaining tears with his thumbs.
"I'm an idiot. I promise my reaction has nothing to do with whatever's been making you feel vulnerable right now. Seriously. The wings just reminded me of halloween, and halloween reminded me of children going trick-or-treating and you don't want your husband to be thinking of children in the bedroom, do you?"
You grimaced. "God, no."
"Glad we're on the same page, babe." He gently pressed his forehead against yours. "Dance with me."
"There's no music." You sniffled.
"We have a nice record player in the living room. Come on, baby."
Gently, he guided you out from the room, his fingers intertwined in yours as he put on some sappy jazz music. He sways barefoot with you on his arms, your head on his chest, and it takes you back to simpler times.
"I'm sorry. For everything." He's the first to speak, and you appreciate the sentiment, because you know how hard it is for him to apologize, specially when he's the first one to bend the knee to make peace.
"We'll get through this." You mumble, and he kisses the top of your head, and suddenly the golden ring on your finger feels lighter.
"I love you more than anything in the world, darling. Please, don't doubt that. I need you to remember that every single day, specially when I'm at my worst."
"I love you too, Harvey."
He knows there's a long way to go, but the little progress you made tonight makes his heart feel more at ease, as long as you're both on the same side, because he knew with every fiber of his being that he meant it when he said 'until death do us part'.
