"Africa" by Weezer/Weird Al . What, you think just because it has Weezer and Weird Al makes it a novelty song? Think it's silly haha? It actually fuckin slaps. There are a lot of heavy metal covers of this song too, and coincidentally they all slap as well.

"The Man Who Sold The World" by Nirvana (which I was too young to know was a cover! Chris Catalyst's version is good too but this one is Childhood for me)

When I was a young weeb, Charcoal Filter was one of my favorite j-pop bands. J-Rock? I don't know. But their cover of Green Day's "2000 Light Years Away" was one of my favorite songs. Oddly, I can't seem to find it on YouTube but I found a sample!

"The Boxer" by Mumford and Sons. The original Simon and Garfunkel is great, but who knew all it needed was some banjo to be excellent? It makes me feel every emotion.

In no particular order, a Top 10:

1. The James Bond Films (I love them, both as the perfect level of action movie popcorn and for the detailed historic chronicle of the modern era they provide. Still think they should stop with the death of the Queen, though.)

2. Everything Everywhere All at Once (my newest edition to this list; I love how intricately detailed it is, and I can’t wait to find some time to do some deep digging into its many frames ans storylines. And the plot at the same time is so simple and hilarious that I’d happily watch it to veg through the day.)

3 The Big Lebowski (the last work for which the above was true, and an old favorite from college. The Dude’s challenge is still my favorite show-based drinking game.

4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (spent a combined 7 years performing this messy gem, and it’s still great to watch alone—especially now that all the call lines are permanently in my head)

5. Birds of Prey (Harley’s One True Film isn’t as good as her TV series, but it’s the only DC film I really love to watch. Shame it didn’t do better—we could use a series of these a damn sight more than infinity more Bats & Joker movies)

6. Casablanca (Perfect acting, perfect dialogue, perfect film noir intrigue. A movie I watch when I just want to watch masters at work. And Bogie’s Rick Blaine made a significant imprint on my persona)

7. Pulp Fiction (Tarantino’s best, and funniest)

8. Reservoir Dogs (Tarantino’s second best, and funniest)

9. Hackers (I wish both the world and history of computer hacking worked this way, and it’s such a satisfying fuck-the-man film)

10. 2001: A Space Odyssey/The Shining (sometimes I wanna get lost in a Kubrick, and these are my favorite Kubricks to get lost in)

current show: dresden files! I'm currently on episode 5/12 and am having such a good time. came to see terrence mann be weird and offputting, stayed for the humour and fantastic wider cast

currently reading: 1) storm front by jim butcher 2) I'm about halfway through fellowship of the ring and plan to return to it once my dresden detour is over ✨

current obsession: obviously dresden files is bringing me a lot of joy & I'm also having fun messing around with my own original story and characters rn! outside of that I'm going through a weird transitional period irl and don't have a huge amount of mental processing power for blorboing :-( I miss it

currently reading: I am in the middle of The Lost Causes Of Bleak Creek and have First Bright Things sitting in my Libby app loans. I'm excited to get back to the former (I read the first few chapters, then the loan lapsed) and I'm only sitting on the latter because it sounds startlingly similar to my Les Mis fantasy circus AU.

last song: I think it was "Big Ass Rock" from The Full Monty? It's been stuck in my head since "Stay" came out, at least, and I finally added it back to my regular rotation of music.

currently working on: Finally decided to try to teach myself how to knit yesterday. I think I have the hang of casting on and have made a minuscule amount of progress with the regular stitch, but the smoothness of the hand motions still elude me.
