My boyfriend made me a wire sculpture of a person reading some time ago. Today, I finally made a tiny The Atlas Six book with my favorite Nico/Libby quotes in it to give to the sculpture.

every time I remember how the atlas trilogy ended I get so angry all over again lmao
#I remembered I have this blog 😭#I really waited so long for book 3… at my most depressed I would tell myself that at least I have book 3 to look forward to#and I don’t think (most of) book 3 was bad because there were some great parts#especially the tristan/callum relationship and tristan/libby in the beginning#but once you hit the halfway mark it really all goes to shit#I’m astounded by how the last book didn’t make ANY side of the fandom happy#not the nicolibbys nor the novacaines lol no one!!#ESPECIALLY not the nicogideons#well maybe reina/parisa fans won a bit good for them#because genuinely what the fuck was that ending for nico and gideon.#I loved all the characters in this series and thinking about how it ended makes me sick to my stomach lol#this series got me out of a reading slump where I refused to read series and would only read standalone books#it brought back my love for series and I read so many subsequently#it just sucks that it ended the way it did. I’ll forever be so unhappy about it. so many characters deserve better.#I’ll always love tristan though ❤️#I don’t think I’ll ever be rereading this series (I literally donated the books lol)#but if I ever do it’ll be just for him. tristan caine my beloved ❤️❤️❤️#other than that never reading another olivie blake book in my life I’m good#I don’t care for her writing style but I pushed through because the atlas series was so good. but the last book cemented that decision.#the atlas six#the atlas trilogy#the atlas complex#text

** spoilers for the entire atlas trilogy **
Is it just me or does it grind anyone else's gears when someone markets the atlas six as enemies to lovers? They are always talking about nicolibby which is a great ship but they don't become lovers??? There's cannon evidence they may like each other but they never kiss or date or become lovers??? Libby just kills him.
Again I have no problem with the ship but I feel like when book reviewers market the book as enemies to lovers people are going to go into the book with the wrong impression. BECAUSE THEY NEVER BECOME LOVERS. You can want them to become lovers, there is evidence that in some au they could become lovers, but don't market it as that because they never are lovers!
They aren't even enemies, they team up instantly and only harbour a mild dislike of each other, they are academic rivals, they are twin stars, and they are doomed by the narrative, by their own faults, by Atlas, by the universe to never become lovers in this timeline. Which is unique, wonderful and far more interesting! They shouldn't be boiled down to a trope that will give readers the impression they are going to get a romantic plotline with them that ends with them together. In Nico's last breath, they are still dating other people and he basically shut down any romantic chance for them.
The reason I hate this is that people are going to rate the books low when they find out:
a) this book is actually about philosophy and not romance
b) the supposed enemies to lovers spend the entire page time getting together with other people and never have a single scene where they are together
c) the supposed enemies aren't enemies and don't follow any of the tropes one would be hoping for with people who hate each other (tbh they have a much more complicated and interesting relationship)
These people are going to be expecting "knife-to-throat" and scenes where they are trying so hard to hate each other but give in to the growing sexual tension and all that stuff. Not a tragedy about broken people trying to exist in a broken system. LIKE I LOVE NICOLIBBY, I DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO HATE THEM BECAUSE THEY DON'T FIT INTO THESE ROMANCE TROPES THAT ARE BEING MISTAKENLY APPLIED TO A BOOK THAT ISN'T ABOUT THAT.
And note, I'm not talking about fandom blogs that post all the time about nicolibby, those guys are having fun and shipping! Good for them! (god knows I won't shut up about novacaine). I'm talking about when influencers recommend the book to their audience as enemies to lovers, cause that is just going to get the book bombed with one-star reviews.
okay rant over.

Hi Olivie bestie!
This is so random but “The Prophecy” on Taylor’s new album (which right now is my absolute favorite off the album-and is slowly on its way to overtaking a song and getting on my top 10 Taylor songs of all time. Don’t worry I’m sparing you all the personal reasons why it's my favorite) feels very the atlas series or more just OB/AFF literary universe coded.
Like to me among other things it dabbles with questions like: Does fate exist? How much of our life is controlled by it? Who controls it? Can we change it? If we can change it, how? Who can change it? Can I do anything about it? Or is it set in stone? If it’s set in stone, who decided what my fate was? Why did they decide that? How can I have all this power and still not be able to control my own fate? Or my own happiness? Does my power mean anything if I can’t be happy? What does happiness mean? What does loneliness mean? How can I have everything but also nothing? etc etc etc
I just feel like you bring up these questions and themes a lot (which you already know I love) in your writing and so the song made me think of your books a lot. Maybe Taylor read one of your books and was like oh wow let me ruminate on these questions and put them in a song (using some of her own life story of course too).
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you! Okay I’m off to go relisten to the whole album to see which songs can fit my OB/AFF universe ships (nicolibby, aldoregan, mayracal, portercecily, etc-don’t worry I’ll spare you my lists of these too) 🥂🥰
-Amanda ❤️
it's sooooooo hard for me at this point to feel creative about taylor's songs because her lore is so ubiquitous (like, I need matty healy's face to vacate my brain, I also really need travis kelce's coachella outfit to leave) but certainly that quandary is very on brand
(my favorite song on the album is florida!!! but I also like cassandra)

I do not have much time until next weekend, but be advised: I have finished The Atlas Paradox and marked every page that supports a) NicoLibby, b) the very clear narrative indications that Nico is in love with both Gideon and Libby; and I plan on making a very long post breaking it all down because I love analyzing media like that. So... coming soon I guess?

Thinking about how similar nicolibby and aldoregan are in so many ways 😭 even how Regan thinks her and Aldo’s love is a perfect circle because it’s always them and Nico knows his half will always follow hers. How Aldo tells Regan there’s nothing to fix and how Nico tells Libby that her morals aren’t what he loves about her/would love her even if her hands weren’t clean. Etc etc etc. They both make me insane. So many Olivie books/stories (including her YA ones) have so many common threads as nicolibby do it’s insane but I feel like this one means the most to me.
this ask is so dangerous to me u put aldoregan and nicolibby in the same sentence and i just 😵‍💫 olivie leans towards this dynamic (partly because she writes it well) and it makes me so sick to my stomach bc i love both ships separately and fiercely and they both did a number to my head for sure UGH now i’m gna be thinking about this for DAYS

raves about the atlas paradox!
so basically TAP is like my favorite book of the year and I loved it so damn much like more than babel like can you IMAGINE?!?!?! more than BABEL??? omg like I'm gonna do a proper review this week on my booksta but I loved this one ever MORE than ta6 and I didn't even think that was possible, this book was like a comfort to me like reading it felt like home it felt like my happy place it's the kind of thing I crave intensely it's the best blend of scifi-fantasy and cosmology and it's so easy for me to slip into olivie's narrative voice ugh
like as soon as she got into the philosophy and the physics I inhaled and was like yessss this is what I need in my life this is what I love and omg like the way she structured the story to keep it character-driven and like a whole socratic discussion??? amazing like wow like I swear that there's about 3 different paradoxes and loops in terms of the structure of the story
callum. callum nova. like I post about callum all the time so I think it's a given that he's my favorite and I was just so happy he was still as deranged and sad and maniacal as I would have hoped and OMG this boy not only has an oedipus complex but is hilarious and petty and I don't believe in astrology at all (because, Muslim) but he's very much a leo moon... and on the note of callum, he very much gives me Dark Fic Draco energy more and more like in the first book I was getting those vibes and was like "maybe it's cus he's blond and rich and evil" but nah he has the right amount of aristocratic pomp and sad boi vibes and he's defending draco's twin idc and on that note libby is evil hermione and don't bother fighting me on that
I just absolutely loved the characters dynamics and the fact that the whole book explored new dynamics like the character dynamics in olivie's works is ten times more important than plot and I love it like that like each voice is just so distinct and fushhsjsja like callum and reina had me SHORT CIRCUITING like bruh I loved it
and on that note, I notice the book only has a 3.86 on goodreads which is suspiciously low for a big sequel that's entirely in the vein of its first book (proof booktok viralism is not real) and I think it's because 1. people wanted the book to be nicolibby and GUESS WHAT HOES THIS BOOK IS BIGGER THAN NICOLIBBY like I love nicolibby but cmon, the fact that there's not much nicolibby is not an excuse to low-rate the book cus you have MISSED the point fo sho like I will eviscerate the people giving TAP 1 star because there wasn't enough nicolibby like??? way to be predictable
and 2. people just can't handle the fact that the dark academia book is ACADEMIC and teaches you things and messes with you and ignores all morality and that's the POINT of good academia it can't just "be gay do crimes" like academia is about life and life is about conflict and conflict is about philosophy, like of course the book is about consciousness so if you're looking for a traditional book then you're looking in the wrong place... like would you read lolita if you hate reading the thoughts and justification of bad people NO you wouldn't and literally olivie's setup for this book is "the bachelor but with law students but magical" and that's the POINT it's not about what's right or wrong it's about what you CAN do within the frame of the so-called rules until you write your own rulebook ya feel
like the sheer use of synthesis and irony and paradox in this book is amazing it's supposed to be a study in academia and a study of the psyche by making sure the ensemble are all walking hyperboles it's not mindless entertainment like olivie makes you work for it and I like an easy read now and then too but people saying the book is "pretentious" like lmfao? a book on academia? a book about philosophy and physics is "pretentious"? lmfao. say you missed the point of the genre and GO @ olivie haters

Hi Olivie!!!
I’m here to give you some praise on TAP!!! This will (hopefully) be spoiler free but I feel like I can’t fully make that promise so if anyone out there who hasn’t read it yet sees this who hasn’t read it yet, you might just want to skip this just to be safe.
First of all, I loved being back in this world with these characters, I keep telling people it felt like coming back home in a way.
This book was SO funny I laughed out loud several times and that was one of my favorite parts about the book. Of course I loved hearing from the love of my life Parisa again (also can we talk about the audiobook narrator for her??? The casting is perfect like she sounds exactly how I imagined and even gets like the mannerisms I imagine Parisa having it’s just the best). Speaking of Parisa though, can I just say how fascinating I still find Dalton and mind!Dalton. To me Dalton is actually the most intriguing and interesting character every time we go inside his mind and see mind!Dalton I get so invested. There’s just so many layers to his character and I just want to don’t them all out. I also just live for the dynamic Parisa and mind!Dalton have-it’s just so sexy.
I just also loved learning more about the other characters too! I can’t say you made me LOVE Callum or anything- if you remember from my previous asks and praise he has always been my least favorite and he terrifies me (which is still true) -but I can definitely appreciate his character more after this one which I was not expecting but was a nice surprise! Also okay it might just be me but I loved learning more about Atlas/Ezra. I actually kept texting my friend that I crackshipped them so hard hahah like I wasn’t expecting anything out of it but that betrayal trope and the chemistry hit hahah and I could see them being together back in the day. Idk I just vibed with it. ALSO DUH LIBBY’S CORRUPTION! One of my favorite parts. I definitely can’t wait to see how it also plays out in book 3 (okay spoiler but my nicolibby heart screamed when she said “time to torch this outcome and let the fucker burn”, tbh I think Nico will be very proud of her but that’s to be determined).
THE LAST PARTS PLUS ELILIF AND THE PRINCE LEFT ME SO MANY QUESTIONS LIKE SO MANY 🤯🤯🤯
Okay then ships which I know you probably hate people commenting on at this point but I just need to include it, however I’m lleaving it at the end here so you can skip it if you wish. I loved all the nicolibby crumbs like seeing them missing their other half and how especially Nico couldn’t survive without her and how not only did Nico want nothing else but to find a way to get her back in this book Libby also knew it would be Nico searching for her and ugh I just love them so so so much. Also S/O to Reina for being a secret nicolibby shipper too because she gave us yet another banger quote about them <3 will always be thankful to my girl Reina. Anytime I found a little crumb of theirs I would send it to my friend (who got an ARC) and just scream about it to her-it made reading it so fun. They mean the world to me and I can’t wait to see even more of them in TAC and my heart and soul prays it’s them in the end. But also Novacaine!!! My other loves. Seeing them both lowkey distraught and vengeful towards the other was AMAZING and so angsty. Like I said I love a good betrayal trope and they have an AMAZING one. There’s a page specifically (328) where my Novacaine heart was literally screaming. They just have such a fascinating dynamic and I’m obsessed. Like they might be toxic af but they are SO FUN and why need healthy in fiction anyway???
Anyway just wanted to say I had fun and can’t wait for Jan 2024 (or you know can wait because I’m terrified but you know same thing).
One of these days I’ll actually be able to write a short message (I hope). But I recently finished “The Lovers Grim” so I’ll be hitting up your inbox with more praise soon. Currently doing my AWYITE reread with it’s release and crying! Also currently reading Clara and the Devil and loving it! I can’t believe I only have one more book of yours left to read this year. So bittersweet but I already know I’ll be rereading a bunch of them all the time. ❤️❤️❤️
-Amanda
two things I’m not sure people always grasp about this series are that 1) its not taking itself as seriously as some people think it is (I compare it to reality tv for a reason, and I genuinely hope people have the same kind of fun with it that I have with pulpy, addictive media) and 2) there’s technically no such thing as crackshipping, because every relationship that occurs on the page is meaningful and the subject of intense complexity by its mentally ill creator (<3). I have thought a disturbing amount about what exists between every single character on the page, and I do think a wide variety of love stories are being told at the same time. atlas and ezra are a genuinely complicated pairing—it’s the relationship that set this entire plot in motion. this book IS the relationships. all of which is to say: get funky my friend it’s all there for you to play with, as a treat
and also 🥰 thank you for taking the time to share your love of these books with me!
