Felix's Adult birthday took place the night after Velma's. He combined it with a fundraising party he hosted at the Port-a-Party Warehouse, neatly sidestepped a midlife crisis, closed the place down, and raised over 34,000 Simoleans for his campaign.
Of course he went home exhausted and stumbled through work the next day, but that's the mark of a successful night out, isn't it?

Out of the Unknown: Time in Advance (1.5, BBC, 1965)
"Nicholas Crandall. Otto Henck. Having regard to the work that you have achieved in helping to colonise those places in which you have spent the last seven years, I accordingly grant you your complete discharge, and your legal licences - to go forth from this place, and kill one man, or one woman, of your own choosing."
#Out of the Unknown#Time in advance#William Tenn#Single play#1965#BBC#peter sasdy#Paul Erickson#Edward Judd#Mike Pratt#Wendy Gifford#Dyson Lovell#Jerome Willis#Judy Parfitt#Danvers Walker#Peter Madden#Peter Stephens#Ken Parry#Philip Voss#Again this series is proving itself a very adult answer to whatever else the BBC were doing with Sci fi in the 1960s: altho not lingered on#The early scenes contain quite a variety of gruesome injury detail while the finále contains sporadic but quite graphic violence. That was#A surprise as well; this is the first story where I've actually read the source material (probably in one of the stacks of old amazing#Science fiction mags I hoarded as a youth) and whilst I didn't remember much outside the central conceit (a quite brilliant thought#Experiment: what if you served your sentence in advance of committing your crime) but I thought I knew where the end was going and then..#Suddenly it wasn't. Someone decided to take this in a different direction for TV which is interesting (as the original plot makes for a#Fine TV play in itself; there's only one minor change but it's a huge tonal shift making what is in print a slightly dark joke of a tale#Into outright tragedy). But it's a good script and an impressive production (bar some understandably basic model work). Always lovely to#Catch Mike Pratt in a guest star role even if (as here) he doesn't seem to be able to decide on an accent. Most disturbing of all tho (far#More than the plot) is the worrying reappearance of the blonde wigs. Is this the genuine prediction of the future that Irene had? Or were#The crew trying to establish a kind of fictional universe like the mcu (Future Earth Blonde Hair Cinematic Universe? FEBHCU. Needs work)

Book Fourteen: Pet Sematary
“Sometimes people have to do things that just seem right. They seem right in their hearts, I mean. And if they do those things and then end up not feeling right, full of questions and sort of like they got indigestion, only inside their heads instead of their guts, they think they made a mistake...”
“Death is a mystery, and burial is a secret...”
So, it’s official guys: the world has become a Stephen King novel. We’re dealing with a worldwide pandemic like The Stand, and we’re all quarantined like The Shining. It’s kinda bizarre.
So how did yours truly deal with the news of the impending apocalypse?
I packed my bags and headed to New Orleans with my pals.
No, I wasn’t one of the people taking advantage of $30 flights a week out... we had booked this trip months ago, and the warnings were not as dire even early last week. But I will say, if the world is ending, I want to be in NOLA when it happens. Frosty drink, po boy... mama will be feeling no pain.
And now I’m back home, drinking lemon water and trying to heal my liver after all the damage that was done last week. Oh, in the midst of all the debauchery, I managed to finish two Steve books. The first one was Pet Sematary; which was kind of ironic, considering one of our NOLA adventures was a cemetery tour. Here for your viewing pleasure is Nicholas Cage’s future place of burial. Rich people, am I right?
But while at the cemetery, we met a few charming Constant Readers from Bangor! They mentioned seeing Steve just a few weeks ago at the grocery store. It’s a good thing I don’t live in Bangor, I would have less than zero chill. But our new friends from Maine were lovely to talk to.
On the surface, Pet Sematary is the story of the Creed family moving to Ludlow, Maine. Louis got a new job working at the university medical center, and his wife Rachel is down for the adventure. They have two kids, the precocious Ellie, and baby Gage (ugh. Even that name); and their cat Churchill. Upon their arrival in Ludlow, they meet their new neighbors: Jud and Norma Crandall. The Crandalls are a little older, but take to the Creed crew right away.
Ludlow seems like a nice place. According to Jud, rabies seems like the biggest issue plaguing the entire state of Maine. “Lots of rabies in Maine now. There was a big old St. Bernard went rabid downstate a couple of years ago and killed four people. That was a hell of a thing...”
My post-it note for this page reads, “Cujo, bitches!”
One afternoon, Jud takes the family on a hike, and shows them the old pet sematary right near their property. Later on at home, Rachel loses her shit. She doesn’t think children should be exposed to death, and it leads to a big ass fight. Louis is a doctor, and doesn’t think children should be sheltered from death. If they’re old enough to understand how babies are made, they’re old enough to understand how death works. But Rachel has some PTSD over the childhood death of her sister Zelda, and she’s never dealt with it. So her strategy is to brush the entire topic under the rug. At one point she tells Louis, “There’s nothing natural about death. Nothing. You as a doctor should know that.”
Rachel, girl. Death is just about as natural as it gets.
Thanksgiving rolls around, and Rachel takes the kids to see her asshole parents in Chicago, leaving Louis at home... where Churchill the cat ends up smooshed by an eighteen wheeler. Jud decides to take Louis on a little adventure, and shows him the burial ground behind the pet sematary, where whatever you bury comes back to life.
I know. It’s a reallllly bad idea. Have these people not seen Practical Magic? Do they not understand how bringing back the dead never works out? Ugh. Idiots.
Sidenote: if you haven’t seen Practical Magic, take advantage of quarantine time and go watch it. It’s late 1990′s Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, and it’s basically the story of me and my sister. Kind of, but not really.
So, Churchill comes back, but smellier and creepier; and it has Louis wondering why he brought him back from the dead in the first place. Even Ellie isn’t digging the new Church, and tells Louis she thinks she’ll be okay when he dies for good. So, mission accomplished? We’ll just refer to that as the weirdest damn parenting hack ever.
Life continues on, until the horrible day when Gage is playing outside with Louis, and also gets smooshed by an eighteen wheeler. It’s a horrible tragedy, and the family is broken. Rachel is inconsolable, Ellie clutches a Polaroid of her and Gage, and Louis can’t make sense of the tragedy. But you already know what he’s thinking...
After the funeral, he sends Rachel and Ellie back to Chicago with Rachel’s (still) asshole parents; and begins the arduous process of burying Gage at the burial grounds. He knows better... he saw first hand what happened to Church after his resurrection. But he’s undeterred. He had visions of Gage becoming an Olympic swimmer, and will stop at nothing to bring his son back.
Spoiler: it’s a shit show. Gage comes back from the burial grounds, swipes a knife from Louis’s doctor bag and kills Jud with it. He didn’t just come back a little smelly, or a little different... he came back as a Chucky doll. Back when Chucky was evil, before he became a comedic foil.
Meanwhile in Chicago, Ellie is losing her shit, and having horrible premonitions that things are going terribly wrong in Ludlow. She finally convinces Rachel to go back home. Rachel knows something is wrong, but has no idea what Louis is really up to. I’m guaranteeing, “digging up dead son’s body, hauling it across town in the car, lugging it up to the burial ground, and waiting for him to come back to life” wasn’t in her top ten concerns.
As she’s driving, she is trying her damnedest to stay awake, and sees a sign for one of our favorite towns in Maine, “Jerusalem’s Lot, she thought randomly, what an odd name. Not a pleasant name, for some reason... Come and sleep in Jerusalem.”
Rachel gets home, and makes her way over to Jud’s house, where she finds his dead body, and is then killed by Gage, pretending to be her crazy, dead sister. Louis is forced to kill Gage, and then he buries Rachel up on the burial ground as well. The final lines of the book are, “A cold hand fell on Louis’s shoulder. Rachel’s voice was grating, full of dirt. Darling, it said.”
Meh. A mediocre ending to a decent book. I was curious why Louis brought Rachel back to life... he saw how terribly wrong it went with both Church and Gage... was he waiting for Rachel to kill him? Was he hoping that since he buried her sooner than Gage, she’d be more of a “normal zombie?” Unclear.
But one thing is clear: I need to read The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs. It’s been referenced at least a million times up until this point, and I have no excuses now that I’m living the quarantined life.
While the book was fine, I did think the topic of handling death with children was still relevant. It’s about as controversial a topic as it gets. Do we discuss it with children, or give them the line about pets/grandparents/old people moving to a farm and living there forever? How do we explain the afterlife? Where do people go when they die? A lot of times, adults don’t have good answers to these questions, and they don’t know how to communicate this uncertainty to children. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with letting children know adults don’t have all the answers. We don’t know what happens when someone dies, and won’t know until we die ourselves. In my experience, kids kinda like knowing you don’t have all the answers either, but you’ll be there as a sounding board, and a safe place for them to confide their fears. Honest conversations like this could have been helpful for Rachel, and prevented this whole story from happening in the first place. Maybe?
I don’t know.
We did have one Dark Tower reference, “No more did he walk like a gunslinger; now his walk was the slow, careful walk of the convalescent...”
And later on, Ellie thinks Church smells like, “ka-ka...” I can’t imagine it was ka for Church to get smooshed by a truck and brought back to life, but who the hell knows. I guess we all have a foggy, but bigger purpose.

America’s long history of regime change
I find it so ironic when Americans complain about Russian interference as if the US government hasn’t literally overthrown the governments of the following countries: Guatemala (Jacobo Árbenz)¹ , Congo (Patrice Lumumba)² , Dominican Republic (Desiderio Arias)³ , South Vietnam (Ngô Đình Diệm)⁴ , Brazil (João Goulart)⁵ , Chile (Salvador Allende)⁶ , Nicaragua (Iran Contra)⁷ , Grenada (Maurice Bishop) , Panama (Manuel Noriega)⁸ , Iraq (Abd al-Karim Qasim)⁹ , Libya (Muammar Gaddafi)¹⁰ , and Iran (Mohammad Mosaddegh)¹¹.

Andrew “Andy” G. Dziduch | News, Sports, Jobs
Andrew Andy G. Dziduch, 93, died Tuesday Oct. 27, 2020 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk.
Andy was born in Dunkirk to the late George and Julia Dziduch.
In 1943, at the young age of 17, Andy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country World War II aboard the LST 993. In 1950, Andy also served in the Korean War aboard the USS Duncan 874. In between the wars, he was enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a member of the Dunkirk Naval Militia Boxing Team. Andy stayed connected with many friends he served with by traveling all over the country with his wife to attend LST Navy reunions. Andy was an extremely proud veteran and was honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshall in the 2013 Memorial Day parade.
Before leaving for the Korean War, Andy met his sweetheart, Diane, and they became engaged and then were married on May 7, 1952. Andy had a love for carpentry, something that his father had taught him during his young years. He went on to establish his carpentry profession working as an apprentice for Bernett & Strauser, learning everything there was to know about the building trade.
In 1953, Andy and Diane formed Andrew Dziduch Construction Company, where he built and remodeled many homes and businesses in his community. Andy was an expert at his craft, teaching the carpentry trade to his three sons. In 1982, Andy and Diane expanded their business to include a retail lumberyard, forming the ADD Lumber Company. Andy and Diane came up with the name âADDã by combining their initials. He leaves behind a family business legacy with three ADD Lumber locations. Andy continued to work into his 90ás. Five of his children as well as, his son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandsons and granddaughters all continue to operate the family business.
In addition to his strong work ethic and family values, Andy had unwavering faith. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish for over 65 years. There he servedas a eucharistic minister, on the parish council, and an advisor for St. Maryás Cemetery. Andy believed deeply in family and helping others. Just like his wife Diane, Andy always saw the best in others. Andy loved reading the newspaper every day and could always tell you what was happening around the world. He was a humble man and although, one of few words, you knew he was always listening. He kept an open and curious mind about the world, even into his older years. Andy will be remembered for his many stories, quick wit and infinite wisdom.
Outside of his family, business and faith, Andy enjoyed horse racing and even owned harness race horses. He would often spend time with his family and friends at Buffalo Raceway and Batavia Downs to watch his horses race. Andyás other hobbies were completing jigsaw puzzles, watching football (Buffalo Bills) and baseball (Boston Red Sox), golf and wrestling.
Surviving are his seven children: Linda (Leonard) Rao of Syracuse, Frederick (Zoraida) Dziduch and Gerald (Cheryl) Dziduch, both of Dunkirk, Laura (Ricky) Bellando of Fredonia, Kenneth (Karen Gentner) Dziduch of Fairview Texas, Lisa (Rick) Crandall of Dunkirk and Louise (Christopher) Lanski of Fredonia. The day after Spooky Day, Violet came to the rescue of Velma's fun and social bars by throwing a party. For some reason, probably having to do with the hot tub, Violet's parties are generally successful and never include EA randos.
I'm not sure why slow-dancing was such a theme at this one, but both Violet and Velma were pretty into it.
Unlike Violet's Leisure Day party, the hot tub action was... maybe not what it could have been.

As this year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect on how grateful I am for what I have gained this year. I want to start with the way I celebrated the very beginning of 2017. I went with Jenilee, Jamie, and Elisabeth to one of my favorite islands in the US. We visited South Padre Island and made some pretty amazing memories!
Good Company & Good Food
New Drinks & New Games
No Glass on the Beach

The Dates Change But This Remains Constant
2017 started out pretty darn amazing. My family grew a bit as well! I got a new brother, some new nephews and a niece. I’ve never seen my sister so happy. It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is their one year anniversary!
True Love
My Heart Grew 5 Sizes That Day
February was fun. Keenan got a new car and learned that going down to the stop light for a left turn out of our neighborhood is really the best way to go. I spent some time at the coffee shop listening to some pretty kickass music.
So Thankful Kee Wasn’t Hurt
Another Fun Night At Opening Bell
March was jam-packed with memories. I had a blast at Sinatra Night. One thing that stands out about that night is this little old man who just couldn’t stop dancing. He had a lesson to teach me that day – Never stop doing what makes you happy. I still think of that old man and the pure joy on his face as he danced the night away. I got to love on 2 of my many favorite pups. Keenan and I celebrated 2 years of marriage. We hung out down at the river with the in-loves and went to San Antonio on a search for some charcoal soap. March was an exhausting and heartbreaking month of loss but there was also much love, passion, and fun.

April and May were just ordinary months. I had the pleasure of watching a dear friend turn another year older. I turned another year older as well. So far 30 hasn’t been my best year. Dinner at Ferraris was wonderful. I got to see my nephew Jax celebrate his birthday. Come to find out, they moved into a house that’s just a few blocks over from the house that built me. Naturally, I had to drive by the old place to see if it was exactly how I remembered it. (Spoiler Alert – It wasn’t.) I also enjoyed lots more live music.
Open Mic Night is easily one of my most favorite days of the week. Easter dinner with my dad’s side of the family was a refreshing break as well. One of the most memorable days of the entire year was the Miranda Lambert concert. I was REALLY looking forward to that day, but it ended up not going exactly as planned. My momma and I still got to spend lots of time together though, so I guess it wasn’t a total waste of a day! (To read about that day, click here!)
The Alice in Wonderland ballet brought many memories. That was the highlight of May, for sure.

June and July were full of ups and downs. Nonnie spilled a pot of boiling beans all over her and spent several weeks in the hospital. Hurricane Harvey didn’t want us to go on vacation so we went to the river instead.
Jenilee started chemo to put an end to this brain tumor that’s been giving her hell for a while. Keenan finally got his CPA certificate in the mail. Chompers and I bonded in a whole new way and now she’s basically my favorite puppy ever.
I got to spend time with my dad on Father’s Day and see my Grandmom too. I survived a vegan diet. My mom and Nonnie moved out to the country with my sister. Syra, my Nonnie’s puppy dog passed away. It was a chaotic few months, but then things started to look up.

August & September… Um, let’s just jump to seeing the Beauty & The Beast ballet with some pretty amazing friends. That and the fact that Jenilee’s tumor was shrinking was just about the only good parts of these 2 months. I was SUPER excited to see that my Nonnie had made it to her 77th birthday! The in-loves came to visit too. I love seeing them.

October was pretty boring. Nothing much happening around here that month. November was a rough one. We lost my dear Nonnie on the 17th. Jenilee was up to 5 chemo treatments! I was well on my way to start the process to my gastric sleeve surgery.
My sister and mother helped me with a maternity shoot for Meg. (Yes, that’s my sister’s dog’s name. No, I’m not joking.) Meggers finally had those precious puppies! They came as a welcome distraction from all the other terrible things that were going on around me. I did my civic duty and voted as well and enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal with my dad and his side of the family.

December. We had my Nonnie’s “Celebration Of Life” to kick off December. Keenan got sleeved on the 11th of December. I went to the Nutcracker ballet and it was the most magical night of the year. All 4 Christmas gatherings were completed before New Year’s Eve. It was wonderful! Jen completed one type of chemotherapy and will be starting a new type next week.

All in all, 2017 provided me with lots of love, loss, passion, friends, & family. I’m grateful for the people who have stuck beside me through this roller coaster of a year. Here’s to hoping 2018 will be able to top this one off.
Happy New Years guys!
2017 – Thanks for the memories As this year comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect on how grateful I am for what I have gained this year.

"I have great news!" I shouted to Violet when I got home later that evening.
"Oh Velma, I'm so glad you're home! I have great news too!"
That got my attention. Violet's definition of "great news" and my definition of "great news" don't usually agree. I tried to think of some of the kinds of things she might consider great news, and--
"You didn't," I said, glaring at her.
"I did! I mean, we did! Oh, Velma, you're the first person besides Nick to speak with Mrs. Violet Crandall!"

Violet's proposal went far better than Vivienne's did. Oh, the game tried it, with a random EA-made uggo walking in front of the camera just as Nick was getting warmed up, but I reset him immediately.
The game had its revenge when Wilona photobombed them instead.
It's better than having a witch curse your marriage, but I don't know how much better.

I've focused so much on the spares recently because I wanted to get them situated before moving Velma out. As much as I was enjoying playing all three of them, it got a little hectic once they got some romantic interests--especially when Woman A's romantic interest called up Woman B to ask for a date, then sent a love letter to Woman C for good measure.
I've been very pleased with this generation, and any one of them would have made a great heir, but trying to share that role across all three of them was out of the question.
And now on to Violet, the eldest, She Who Will Leave No Sink Unchecked.
Unlike her sister Vivienne, Violet homed in on a man with sensible work hours, a badly-dressed businessman named Nick Crandall.
What in the vaudevillian hell dude. Buy real clothes!
Violet isn't a Hopeless Romantic like Vivienne, so their courtship moved at a slower pace more suitable for a Neurotic Sim (and more possible with a boyfriend who is not in the medical career).
It bothers me more than it should that she hasn't taken her glasses off for the festivities that are about to occur. Shit, maybe I'm the Neurotic Sim.
