Go back to your valley and wait for me Guidobaldo, for I am surely coming. For you. For your son. For your whole family. The depiction of Cesare and his dealing with Guidobaldo here is as predictable and inaccurate as I thought it would be, however, this scene and this line delivers some accuracy in the sense that irl Cesare truly wasn't one to show weakness. Even when there were times where it can be suggested he was afraid, he never showed it in public and he just kept on going. He certainly also did not lacked courage or boldness. But his boldness, his fearlessness wasn't reckless. It was employed in a very strategic, clever way in which he managed to use it as a shield against his enemies on several occasions in his life. Also, Machiavelli's sad face because he disappointed the Duke there isn't so so far way from reality🤭💖

Italian literature tournament - First round.

Propaganda in support of the authors is accepted, you can write it both in the tag if reblog the poll (explaining maybe that is propaganda and you want to see posted) or in the comments. Every few days it will be recollected and posted here under the cut.

also I don’t really see the point of calling Machiavelli “anti-feminist” because 1. I don’t think such concept ever crossed the mind of anyone in his time 2. He actually treated well his wife (let’s forget that he cheated on her like there was no tmrw but I’m pretty sure she knew and also as I read on a paper once “he is just a classic Italian husband”) by letting her handle a lot of work that was considered manly at the time, for example she used to control their family money 3. He definitely wouldn’t be for slut-shaming. Man loved them waaayyy too much and definitely somehow respected their work.
#how did he not die sooner from an std or smth is beyond me lol#dont take this too seriously pls.#he might have said that italy had to be dominated like a woman in bed. yes. but so what. he was a top and wanted to share it#also I wouldn’t go too far with analysis of this type because we would have to talk about everyone then#niccolò machiavelli#machia

This follows also on another natural and common necessity, which always causes a new prince to burden those who have submitted to him with his soldiery and with infinite other hardships which he must put upon his new acquisition. In this way you have enemies in all those whom you have injured in seizing that principality, and you are not able to keep those friends who put you there because of your not being able to satisfy them in the way they expected, and you cannot take strong measures against them, feeling bound to them. For, although one may be very strong in armed forces, yet in entering a province one has always need of the goodwill of the natives.
The Prince- Chapter III (Niccolò Machiavelli)
Now, Aleksander isn't entering different land, but the points remains- he cannot rule without support of Ravkans. And as far as we're shown, masses consider him the source of all evil, First Army the puppeteer behind Tsar's indifference and I highly doubt nobles will love Grisha social climber.
