Soap had always been the charismatic one in the squad, his Scottish brogue and cheeky grin making him a favourite among the ranks and a magnet for attention. His real name was John MacTavish, but no one called him that. Soap was known for his effortless charm and his reputation as a playboy, never failing to have a woman on his arm during leave. He enjoyed the game, the chase, and the thrill of never getting too attached.

He first noticed you during a mission briefing. You were new to the unit, sharp-eyed and focused, with a calm confidence that intrigued him. From the start, Soap found himself captivated. Unlike others, you didn’t fall for his usual lines and smooth talk. Your responses were always polite but distant, leaving him wanting more.

Over the next few months, Soap made it his mission to win you over. He flirted relentlessly, invited you for drinks, and found excuses to be near you during training exercises. You, however, were an enigma. You’d laugh at his jokes, andengage in banter, but never gave him the satisfaction of reciprocating his advances.

One evening, after a particularly gruelling day in the field, the squad gathered in the makeshift rec room. Soap, ever the life of the party, was regaling them with a story, his eyes constantly drifting to you, who sat across the room, cleaning your gear. Catching your eye, he grinned and raised his beer.

"Hey, why don’t you join us for a change? You’re always working too hard."

You looked up, your expression unreadable. "Someone has to keep things running smoothly around here, Soap."

"Come on," he coaxed, "just one drink."

After a moment’s hesitation, you shrugged and joined them. The evening wore on, and Soap found himself drawn to you more than ever. As the night wound down and the others began to drift off to their bunks, Soap leaned in closer to you.

"You know, I’ve been trying to get you alone for months," he said, his tone teasing but with a hint of sincerity.

You arched an eyebrow, a small smile playing on your lips. "And why’s that, Soap?"

"Because you’re different. You don’t fall for my charm like the others. It’s… refreshing."

You laughed softly, the sound surprising him. "Maybe you’re not as charming as you think."

He chuckled, shaking his head. "Or maybe you’re just a tough nut to crack."

There was a pause, a moment of silence that seemed to stretch on. Then, with a sigh, you set down your drink and stood. "Alright, Soap. You’ve been persistent enough. Let’s go."

Soap blinked, momentarily stunned. "You mean it?"

You nodded, your eyes challenging. "Yeah. Let’s go."

He followed you to your quarters, his heart pounding with anticipation. This was it, the moment he’d been waiting for. You barely made it inside before you were on each other, the pent-up tension exploding into passion. Soap revelled in the intensity, every touch and kiss igniting a fire he hadn’t felt before.

He slowly undressed you, watching as you squirmed with excitement. His strong hand glided over the fabric of the dress, pulling it up until it was above your waist. His grip was unyielding on your hips as he whispered, "Fuck, just look at how wet you are for me, lass.” He pushed two fingers inside, licking his lips with satisfaction.

"About last night," he began, searching your face for any sign of regret or emotion. "What happened?"

You met his gaze, your expression calm. "What do you mean? We hooked up. It was fun. But that’s all it was."

He frowned, taken aback by your nonchalance. "Just fun?"

"Yeah, Soap. Just fun," you said, your tone firm. "We’re soldiers. We can’t afford to get attached."

He stared at you, the realization hitting him like a punch to the gut. He’d pursued you, convinced himself it was just another conquest, but somewhere along the line, he’d caught feelings. And now, looking at you, he realized you were just like him—a player, only better at hiding it.

"Right," he said, forcing a smile. "Just fun."

You nodded, giving him a small smile. "Good. See you around, Soap."

As you walked away, Soap felt a strange emptiness settle in his chest. For the first time, the game hadn’t gone according to plan. And he couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d lost more than just a fleeting moment of passion. He’d lost the one person who had seen through his façade, only to remind him of his own rules: never get too attached.

But as he watched you disappear into the bustling crowd, he couldn’t help but hope that maybe, just maybe, your story wasn’t quite over yet.

on the seventh day the lynch brothers became friends again. BECAME FRIENDS AGAIN

but basically. if trc is a coming-of-age series where you see these kids delighting in and struggling with the magic on the edge of adulthood. the dreamer trilogy is like the loss of childhood innocence. cdth and mi are ROUGH at points. it’s much harsher feeling than trc, more heavy and sad and action-packed and suspenseful. and greywaren is like…the tentative peace you make at the end of the transition to adulthood. ronan’s finding his feet, seeing old friends, proposing. declan is settling down, letting go of his childhood wounds. it’s not an ending really but it’s where things start to be okay. and that’s how it feels. and that’s why (for all the plot holes and rushed pacing blah blah blah) it’s so. fucking. good.

AND CAN I JUST SAY. all the ppl who say that post-TRK pynch became “bad” and “toxic” and “isn’t as good as in trc” and “they shouldn’t be together anymore”……..i hate those ppl w my whole heart bc. i’m sorry, but if you read the scene in greywaren where their, like, celestial soul energies found each other in dreamspace and reconciled and apologized and forgave (in. disembodied dream soul form…whatever) and WERE WANTED THEY WERE WANTED THEY WERE WANTED and decided to love and help and heal one another and you STILL think that???? i just don’t know how to help you!!! sorry u can’t enjoy mature healthy relationships where people have gone through bad periods and so the relationship suffered for a while and then they recalibrated and decided to continue to grow together, but i’m built different :))

BBC Reveals Release Date And New Pictures For New Crime Drama Rebus

Rebus, a new crime series based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Ian Rankin, will launch on Friday 17 May, the BBC has announced. All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer from 6am, with episode one airing on BBC Scotland on Friday 17 May and on BBC One on Saturday 18 May.

Written for the screen by Gregory Burke (’71, Six Four), Rebus reimagines the iconic character John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant, drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line.

New pictures released by the BBC show Richard Rankin (Outlander, The Replacement) in the titular role, Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File, Spanish Princess) as John’s brother, Michael, and Lucie Shorthouse (Line of Duty, Ten Percent) as Rebus’s investigation partner, Detective Constable Siobhan Clarke.

Because the original concept for this story was inspired by the song ‘Angel with a shotgun’, Kit is made to shamelessly embody the era of early to mid 2010’s. The aesthetic, the music (specifically pop- and alternative rock), the fashion, hell even the social media. What I mean with that is they 100% have a Tumblr, and they 100% will comment on your shoelaces. 

Also, because I felt the urge to pay homage to the song that started it all, Kit is also in a band ! They mainly do covers of the most hype early to mid 2010’s songs, with Kit being the lead vocalist and backup guitarist. The name of the band is ‘Shotgun Angels’, and depending on who you ask shotgun is referring to different things (To Kit and Daisy it means riding shotgun, Lexi says it’s about the weapon, according to Dennis it’s referring to the can drinking thing, and Niall just thinks it sounds cool). The band does play a big part in the story as one of the main outlets for Kit, but also for them to have fun with their friends.

I feel like Samir has become one of my favorite characters to write, in that his arc and journey is very interesting. Simplest way to explain it; a submissive person slowly becomes more dominant, which is their true form. Like Samir will never put himself in the role of a leader, but the moment he’s pushed into it he’s so fucking good at it like actually born for it. It’s really neat and I hope I’m writing it as well as I think I am lmao. And while I’m struggling with finding natural ways to fit in character descriptions in my works; Samir is a big man. He’s tall, he’s fat, he has stretch marks and body hair and he’s so fucking beautiful. Absolutely Ethereal and I will not shut up about it.

Not a single day goes by without me thinking of his bioluminescent pink blush and honestly I need to draw more of it. André is so- he’s so AAA he makes me so happy ! I love how he and the rest of PAXS are so unconditionally cringe and have a fucking routine for introducing their squad. Honestly I love his dynamic with everyone, how he’s friendly and open-minded while still knowing his boundaries. Also, also, him not being prone to anger and then finally snapping and just going feral and destroying shit is so fucking yummy ! And both you and I know damn well that when he gets used to his wings he uses them to extra hug his friends.

I struggle with drawing Anruh and Ruben because Anruh is an absolute unit and Ruben is tiny lmao. That aside, Anruh is a massive fucking softie and I love that for her. Like, she’s such a romantic person without even realizing it. She can kill you in an instant or she can give you the softest forehead kisses, it’s such a wonderful duality. And it does create a ‘of mice and men’ kinda situation where she really wants to interact with the small things in the forest but she also knows damn well that she can snap nacks with the flick of her finger so she tries to stay away from them(I have an excerpt of this that I am unsure if I ever posted…). And then in comes Ruben lmao. I also really like her hairstyle <3

🎆 Backstory:

Like her father, who was a mercenary, Zakiti was a part of the mercenary group the Spitfires. The Spifires all consisted of fire mages and swore an official oath of loyalty to their leader, Kashshaya. Zakiti and Kashshaya were lovers, but ultimately Zakiti killed her after the death of the Spitfires. Afterwards, Zakiti, now without her fire magic, spent the following century travelling the known world alongside traders and merchants, who hired her as muscle against thieves. It was during this time of travelling when Zakiti started to get interested in explosives, as she learned from various people from different cultures about their usages of numerous chemical compounds like sulfur or potassium nitrate. The most important acquaintance during that time was Jiayi, who became her partner and with whom Zakiti spent seventy years together. After her death, Zakiti returned to her homeland and started a small business in selling fireworks. When the war started, Zakiti was contacted by Enki and recruited into the infiltration squad. Her role in the squad is that of the pyrotechnic.

🎆 Behind the scenes:

Zakiti was one of the first OC's created for this fic. The squad at first played a smaller role, but as the plot developed, they all became more important and became a part of fic!Nikkal's found family. Narrative-wise Zakiti is supposed to be one of the mentors for Nikkal, specifically her ""sword-path"" so to speak, because as Niall supports her in developing magic (""fire path""), Zakiti supports her in being creative with what she has and not completely relying on magic alone. Zakiti was inspired by the character June, a bounty hunter, from Avatar the Last Airbender (Zakiti doesn't look like June, though).

Man, like, honestly I think the worst feeling when playing a game is putting it down and thinking "I wish I'd done something else", and like, for as much as I love Elden Ring, I'm really bummed at how many boss fights elicit this reaction from me. Cause like, the double gargoyles underground or commander Niall, it's not that they're *hard*, it's that they're difficult fights that aren't even interesting. I don't learn anything from dodging one opponent's long combo only to get completely obliterated by one of the other opponents from off screen half the arena away. Morgott took me a couple days to beat but it was exciting every time because there's an interesting mechanical challenge to his phases, he's an interesting character, and it feels like a meaningful encounter. Getting ganked by the gank squad has none of that, you know? Really disappointing cause every time I get to one of these it just tanks my enthusiasm for making further progress.
