having seen at least the rough outlines of all the romances now I have to say that I think emmrich's is probably objectively the best in terms of coherence and completeness of story arc (with the understanding that ultimately the 'best' romance is whichever one makes YOUR heart sing anyway so objectivity is a silly thing to claim that way, it just felt like it's the arc with the most well-paced focused content and the least dangling threads)... but lucanis' is my favourite haha. just. the whole kneeling before your beloved full of reverence but without any of the distance that usually implies??? his complete undramatic certainty and calm in every scene with rook after this, having spent the whole game caught between fear and longing???? mr. lives in a pantry but it says nothing about my psyche don't worry about it it's purely for tactical reasons that I keep myself contained in a small dark room not entirely unlike a cell, love among the parsnips -- finally coming to rook in their room and it's so comfortable and comforting???? after all the times rook supports and comforts him through the game he's finally able to return the same to them when they need it while being so calm and steady and it's so fucking sweet and feels so effortless and with no price attached?????? he basically assigns himself the role of your bodyguard and he WILL stab a god over it??????????????? the turn to protector (which was in his heart all along longing to get out and find a place) of it all????? he sounds like he's found himself unexpectedly stumbling into such a soul-lightening state of revelatory existential relief, full on 'you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves' mary oliver style, and he goes and he shares that with rook and protectively envelops them in it when they're hurting??????????????????????????? hello for the maker's sake hello can anyone hear me?????
#listen I was forged in the fires of garrusmancing. I went through two whole games just to get a gentle headbutt and some tender words#before me3 comes along and rewards you for your tenacity more fully#me? the reyes romancer???? I have the strength and headcanon game to bear the relative lack of content before the end#when the endgame is this good I am willing to hold out for it haha the way he looks at rook towards the end......#I also really liked taash' (it's really sweet) but I don't think I have any rooks ready to go right now who would go for that vibe#emmrich for sure is going to be my either crow or shadow dragon romance it really is very good! and extremely goth not unrelatedly#undeniably that old man has the most game out of anyone in this story. the move with the flower??? I'm sorry????#I actually like that lucanis' romance blooms out of the safety of an established friendship more than anything (again. avowed garrusmancer)#but emmrich... he's got some next level romantic stuff going on and is being both so wholesome and such a freak about it lmao#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#dragon age spoilers#lucanis dellamorte#rook x lucanis#rookanis#all jokes aside I totally respect and understand that people are a bit disappointed and frustrated -- they're not wrong to feel that!#there really are some gaps in content there for the midgame#however I was personally custom built by experience to get the most out of this scenario as possible and by god I will#just as I feel that ryder and reyes go off and have some soul-shrivingly good sex after the first kiss#(it makes that arc make a lot more sense to me haha)#I think rook and lucanis Get Up To It after the second coffee date. weird of them to not show us that but okay I'll fill it in myself then

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?
tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.
#i really do have a love-hate relationship with this timeline#because it's FASCINATING lore. genuinely. and i think it carries over the themes of certain games REALLY well#but i also think it's indicative of a trend in loz's writing that has REALLY annoyed me for a long time#which is this intense need to cling to oot#and on a certain level i get it. that was your most successful game probably ever. and it was an AMAZING game.#and i think there's definitely some corporate profit maximization tied up in this too--oot was an insane commercial success therefore you'r#not allowed to make new games we need you to just remake oot forever and ever#and that really annoys me because it makes certain games feel disjointed at best and barely-coherent at worst.#i think the best zelda games on the market are the ones where the devs were allowed to really push what they were working with#oot. majora. botw. hell i'd even put minish cap in there#these are games that don't quite follow what was the standard zelda gameplay at their time of release. they were experimental in some way#whether that be with graphics or puzzle mechanics or open-world or the gameplay premise in its entirety. there's something NEW there#and because the devs of those games were given that level of freedom the gameplay really enforces the narrative. everything feels complete#and designed to work together. as opposed to gameplay that feels disjointed or fights against story beats. you know??#so I think that the willingness to allow botw and totk to exist independently from the timeline is good at the very least from a developmen#standpoint because it implies a willingness to. stop making shitty oot remakes and let developers do something interesting.#and yes i do very much fear that the next 20 years of zelda will be shitty BOTW remakes now#in which botw link appears and undergoes the most insane character assassination youve ever seen in your life#but im trying to be optimistic here. if botw/totk can exist outside the timeline then we may no longer be stuck in the remake death loop#and i'm taking eow as a good sign (so far) that we're out of the death loop!! because that game looks NOTHING like botw or oot.#fingers crossed!!#anyway sorry for the game dev rant but tldr timeline good except when it's bad#asks#zelda analysis

if the theory of sam reich being replaced by .. evil wizard dalton reich (and i cant believe i am partaking in this discurse) is true..
i've seen some people asking the question about what those childhood tapes mean. Well i am one of the ancient ones that owned vhs tapes and you know you could replace whats stored on those tapes with overwriting it with new material but it would slowly degrade the quality as the magnetic tape the information is stored on isn't necessarly made to be re-recorded on indefinetly which would also explain the degrading quality of the gamechanger episode.
So my theory is that dalton reich wants to erase sam from history and to do this he is slowly erasing any proof that could hint on sam and dalton being two different people. One thing he appearantly needed to do is overwrite these old vhs tapes of sams childhood.
#game changer#dropout tv#Sam Reich#having worked in an archive i think depending on quality of the tape and what generation it is#you can record and re-record on it 5-10 times#which would fit the loops on the episode kinda#listen i wanted to be cool but i love time loops OKAY#I am actually in disbelieve that no one tackled sam to the ground#like brennan did during the dance thing in the “second place” episode#and screamed “DANCING IS A SIN”#to keep Sam from kicking the god damn camera#i also feel like i've been hexed with the wenis curse#you see all those text about it and think.. well... how bad can it be? truely?#and the answer is simple#EVERYBODY DO THE WENIS#THE WENIS IS A DANCE#EVERBYODY IS A GENIUS#WHO KNOWS IS IN ADV (gunshoots.. sirens blaring in the background.. and a wet thud sounds right next to you)#also.. not to be like alu head levels of conspiracy but by now the nimber of accounts#saying the dropout cast should be hunting down sam as the final game changer episode of the season#is suspicious to me#like... if that turn out to be a fixitman situation of people being IN on something#am just going full balls to the wall riz gukgak tatooing night yorb on his chest levels of insane by now 👍#also the sfx needed thing#reminds me about how jacob always does his own buzzer sound#because clearly the normal buzzer sound was always there#also.. the red shining buzzer reflecting in the prompt screen..that wasn't always that way right?

#genesect#oh shit this is the last pokémon in generation 5#huh. that's. kinda fucked up#i don't feel like we've been in gen 5 that long. but now we're already moving on to gen 6. my favorite generation#ugh this is also where it gets a little harder from me. bc we've moved on past pokédex 3d pro. BUT the next pokémon is one of my faves#so you all have to enjoy it#genesect is also really fucking cool. my first ever playthrough of bw i used a genesect bc i used the mystery gift DNS thing to get it#back in like 2020 and it came at level 15 or smth. so i just used it throughout the game. it basically replaced my starter

sorry i WILL shut up about this (and start posting abt my new hawkes) but seeing "can you guys take a breath" and "decisions from 10+ years ago in southern thedas will not affect the current timeline set in north thedas" from specific blogs is genuinely wild. as if we don't literally live in a world where we are STILL just starting to face consequences to actions taken 10+ years ago, and as if US politics 10+ years ago did not have anyyyyy global ramifications for anyone outside of the US even 10+ years later. like. rivain, antiva, nevarra are all IN southern thedas wdym??? im half tempted to start actually listing out all of the things our decisions could have feasibly impacted 10 years later but seeing this take from blogs that genuinely still discuss the impact of the exalted marches on thedas hundreds of years later is WILDDDDDD
#dw guys every time we criticise this game's decisions there will be a sol/avellan there to defend it from the awful evil haters#BAFFLING. genuinely baffling.#da4 critical#fandom critical#i say this AS SOMEONE porting sol/avellan into da4 bc idk if u know. but this behav is annoying as fuck.#and you're also assuming that the canonical world state they're flattening everything into is going to be one everyone wants/agrees with.#even if it is somehow supportive of mages and supportive of elves or whatever else and southern thedas' problems magically all disappear#within 10 yrs and southern thedas is now a utopia. that's still not necessarily the background everyone WANTS to be bringing into veilguard#maybe some of us want to bring in a crapsack world that's still fucking worth saving!!!#i think there's some incredibly stupid levels of bitching abt da4. ive seen it and i think it's genuinely brainless whinging#but i feel like ''hey they're like scrapping our entire worldstate decisions for the next game'' is not one of them.#YOU DON'T EVEN BRING IN WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAD HIGH OR LOW APPROVAL WITH SOLAS.#you can hate him and still want to help him. you can like him and your chara still would kill to stop him#why are you guys so quick to throw dissatisfied fans under the bus to defend *bioware*#i promise bioware will not be paying you money for this.

I love that the Chairmen are like the lameos of The Strip. Like it just says so much about how the Boot Riders were that they are just so fine being like Vegas cool guys.
Everyone at The Tops sans Benny is content, happy and fine with how things play out. They just like having food, women and something to do. Like occasionally they have to use some of their tribal warrior skills when threats like the Courier pop up but they are like if you took mountain lions and gave them a kitty spa day and now they refuse to leave.
Of course, the other families think they’re boring like one of them is literally eating bitches and The Tops just has the worst Wasteland’s Got Talent contestants as premiere acts.
#sorry they are just silly like they don’t give a fuck#they like to stay in their little hotel and do fuck all like all the families are closed off#but the chairmen are so eh about it like they look through you while the other two are actively like fuck you you aren’t one of us#someone mod the female chairmen back in the game#also I noticed the chair men have a noticeable and distinct roughness to their voices sans Benny and Tommy so I know headcanon they had#calls and chants for when scouting or in combat so most chairmen messed up their voice before joining house#but seriously these guys are like when Stan Lee is missing the fight behind him in spiderman like they are eating bitches and making bombs#right next door and what? you just need new talent? like I know Bennys doing wild shit but no one else knows#the others where scheming at major levels within the organizations Benny is the chairmen outlier they are so funny#fallout#fallout new vegas#fnv#benny gecko#the chairmen

The story of Desmond Miles and his ancestors is genuinely so beautiful and meaningful. So this is why I'm so mad that they HAVE THE ABILITY to write beautiful and meaningful stories like that. BUT THEY CHOOSE NOT TO IN ORDER TO RAKE IN MORE MONEY??

very random question and don’t feel obligated to reply but your style reminds me of dark souls/pathologic/those types of games in general. that might just be due to the historical context but i’m curious, are you a fan of games like that?
If I had to guess it could be just the vaguely historical setting, religious overtones and occasional darker themes? My knowledge on Dark Souls et al. is sparse at best, people have been telling me to give them a try but I haven't gotten around to it.
#they look really really nice and I trust it when people say the lore and storytelling is on next level#but these days I generally don't fancy games that brag on their high level of technical difficulty it's just a personal pet peeve#they make me feel like I'm being punished and that my time and effort aren't valued and that puts such a dent in my ability to enjoy them#the games I get the most out of tend to be relatively short and self contained indie experiences#with focus on storytelling ambience and unique and artsy visuals#answered#anonymous

I was having a decent day, until I remembered a brief, easily-missable side story in one of the first levels of Bioshock 2, where a school teacher and a group of children on a field trip end up trapped in the amusement park level you’re in when the civil war started, and how you hear from her audio logs how she willingly gave up her own food to make sure all the children were well-fed, eventually finding a final audio log on how she realizes she’s dying from starvation but still worries about the kids she’s watching, and you find this audio log by a corpse positioned in a resting pose surrounded by candles and drawings and stuffed animals and I’m sobbing oh god -
#Bioshock#Bioshock 2#video games#dumb stuff#when i first played through this level and found the audio log next to her corpse it destroyed me#just like in the first game where you find an audio log of distraught parents realizing their daughter is a little sister#and you find that log next to two corpses embracing each other and you realize they took their lives in grief#and then i got to the conclusion of the mark meltzer story in Bioshock 2 and was destroyed once again#the first two bioshock’s excelled at environmental stories using the audio logs and all of them are so good and make me super upset#but yeah the teacher one in 2 is especially devastating to me. what happened to the kids#did they all die? did they somehow make it out with jack? probably not! :)#Bioshock 2 is fantastic and anyone who says otherwise is dumb and has bad opinions#/jk but also kinda not really
