I think one of the biggest issues in the Xenoblade 2 fandom is people fall for obvious bait too much. Legit saw a negative XC2 post and this guy replied over 20 times to the OP who just kept responding with "kys pedo" If you don't get it at that point you deserve to be trolled.

Honestly for me, the two worst issues are collectibles and field skill checks. Everything else I'm basically fine with.

Crafting pouch items is just the worst because you have to spend so long going through wikis and trying to get the item drops so you can have 20 minutes of an effect. It bothered me how Torna never let you buy any since the pouch items were so useful. (Future Redeemed did the same thing but you could buy some collectibles and it was bonuses like more money and EXP rather than battle buffs, so not as essential.)

And I didn't even realize how tedious the collectibles are in quests until XC3 came out and was like "do you want to know how good navigation works? We'll literally MARK WHERE THE ITEMS YOU NEED SPAWN" Also that game and Torna let you see tombstones on the map, so that's an immediate improvement.

Field skills existing never bothered me, it's just the constant swapping around your team that gets annoying. Worse is getting into battle and realizing oops, I forgot to change my party back and all these random Blades have 18 damage core chips. XC3 did better with field skills just being unlocks, but I also hated how they just dangled that stuff in front of me and there was nothing I could do to work towards it. Like I saw grinding in the trailer WHY CAN'T I GO DOWN THIS ROPE SLIDE AND WHY DOES NO ONE KNOW HOW TO CLIMB VINES. Future Redeemed making it so you just needed items to make the stuff work has been my favorite iteration of this so far because it feels like you're still making progress and you CAN do it if you put in the work (which 95% of the time I had the items for it on hand) and all without messing up your battle combo.

Oh, there's also the Blade quests. Ursula's sucks and she is not worth it. But my biggest issue is since many Blades are gotcha (which I kinda like? Makes every playthrough a bit unique, just wish the pity system extended to all so you didn't have to grind) by the time you do their quest, you're painfully over leveled. I seriously wish there was some scaling with those.

Some people have been calling for a 2 definitive edition and honestly? If these issues were addressed along with fixing the tutorials (first playthrough I never used pouch items because I didn't understand them. Oh god. No wonder I wasn't having fun for 15 hours) I think it'd be a 10/10 game for me.

I know the designs are a hot topic for debate, I just feel like the only person who wasn't ever really bothered by them? Dahlia caught me off guard and Mythra's boob window is stupid, but there's just so many interesting designs. Not all work with the art style (looking at you, Percival) but I do love how many different artists came together for it and I can appreciate the work. Except Newt, she's...she's actually bad. Girl is an army brat and has nothing but tape covering her ass and titties like honey you would get a section 8 so fast.

Honestly though? I've played other games that have WAYY worse and more sexualized designs, ones that I think would actually fit into the definition of sexism, so maybe that's why it doesn't faze me. (Look Valkyria Chronicles 4 I love you but you literally have all the males in normal outfits while the girls have skin tight pants or short shorts. They get sexually harassed by some male cast members and it's played for laughs. That...is actually something I have to look past to enjoy the game. 2 is basically just some eye candy without getting weird about it and I appreciate that.)

Being a Xenoblade 2 fan is so tiring

Gladiia is a character who is certainly worth discussion, but something about her that often goes overlooked is her base skill. I can’t really blame anyone for not giving it much thought, though, since the thing needs a wiki page to explain it.

Abyssal Hunters pretty much all have dorm skills. When not minmaxing Bloodborne builds, the thing they excel at the most is sitting around. Maybe singing or something. They’re unparalleled.

Look at that. It’s all self-restoration. At least Schwarz has the decency to make tea and help out with operator training. They spend their days recouping from a job they don’t have.

Enter Gladiia.

The leader of the Abyssal Hunters (or what’s left of them amirite) isn’t fucking around. And she will not allow her subordinates (and Andreana who I guess just got drafted) to bring such dishonor to the illustrious name of the Abyssal Hunters by refusing to pull their own weight. So she plants herself in the room with all the CCTV screens and stares holes into the foreheads of everyone in her faction (and Andreana) and lets the vague hostility emanated from their esoteric abyssal bonds motivate them into working. Hell, Andreana doesn’t even really understand that bond thing, she probably just caught A Vibe and immediately thought “I have GOT to impress that swordfish lady enough to make her want to dance with me” and decided the best way to do that would be to produce enough gold to make William Jennings Bryan spin in his grave.

This is all pretty funny, for you, I bet, you landwalker, but let’s not be so hasty as to forget the kind of consequences this could have on others. Seaborn are people too. People adjacent. Look they’re close enough. Sometimes. The Boy himself, Mizuki, has some of the best factory skills in the game.

Picture Mizuki wrapping up his shift. He’s been working shifts in the factory for so long that he decides he doesn’t really need to check the rotation since it’ll probably just be those Columbian owl ladies again. Can you imagine the terror of an Abyssal Hunter, someone who’s entire existence is based off of exterminating your kind, coming in to cover your shift? To him, Death doesn’t wear a decrepit cloak and carry a scythe, it wears a funny hat and carries a saxophone case.

Since we're on the topic of XC2 designs I figure my whole 300 hour (& counting) experience is summed up pretty well by that gifset of the woman surrounded by swimsuit edition magazines & saying that as a feminist she's appalled but as a lesbian she's delighted. That's basically how I feel about most of the designs ^^

I have no idea what gifset you’re talking about lol. I only pay attention to funny game gifs or mecha gifs.

I’ve become really numb to fanservice. Like... As a woman it never really bothered me and as a bisexual woman I’m just okay with it. Tbh I’ve watched both male and female fanservicey anime and ecchi anime ( but sometimes ecchi anime like to give me a fucking headache with the plot. Looking at you new Senran Kagura anime. Fuck you anime that gave Yumi an unnecessary backstory edition and pushed aside half the cast so far. ). I’ve just gotten numb to it that even designs like Newt and Dahlia just don’t bother me.

Even Nia’s blade design didn’t super bother me... But then the idea of benching Nia to use her as a Blade did because I got Kos-Mos ch4 ( so super early in game ) and I also had Kora on her ( my favorite healing blade ) and I had Ursula on her too ( considered one of the best ). So I was like “Nah. Sorry Nia. You might be a good Blade but you’re a better Driver.”

But yeah. I enjoyed 2′s story more than X’s and I had a real fun ride with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I’ve learned since X I shouldn’t put such high expectations on a game ( cause trust me I went in with expectations that weren’t met ) and since then I feel a lot better. Besides “anime” games never bothered me considering I’m an casual anime fan ( unless mechas are involved than I just “must watch”. Especially anything with Gundam in it ) and aren’t hyper critical about stuff.

I like/love what I do like/love... And I dislike/hate what I dislike/hate. Just how it is you know?

Since i got my own personal switch, i never beat xc2, and out of all the rare blades that you have to pull randomly, i only need 3 more (that i can get right now), newt, vale, and adenine. Also im only just now getting to temperantia soo my luck is on point
