A (hopefully) comprehensive list of everything I've acquired on this trip so far.
I'm 2.5 weeks into my 6 week trip and here's anything I have gotten so far:
Indian thread necklace from Abhi (my tour guide) on the first day
Elephant print I made in Jaipur for free and is going in my curio cabinet for India
A green scarf I got for free from the same textile place for winning trivia (unsure what I'll do with it because I don't really wear green and have a lot of scarves. I thought of giving it to my mom because green's her favorite color but I think she has too many scarves too so I don't know)
Taj Mahal magnet from Abhi
Henna from two sisters in Orchha (it is worn off now but I'm still counting it because it was beautiful and I loved it)
Recipes from Rajni's Cooking School in Orchha (to be copied and passed on to Adam)
Om bracelet from Varanasi tour guide (I don't wear bracelets and this one is brown too; I may just put it in the cabinet)
Earrings I bought at the homestay (definitely overpriced but I didn't care because the community needs it)
Mini prayer flags I bought for my curio cabinet in Pokhara
A book on Hindu and Buddhist symbols I bought in Pokhara
A new umbrella bought in Pokhara (my old one was already crappy, like I think evil ex gave it to me after he found it in his classroom, and it completely fell apart)
A cotton sleeping bag liner bought in Pokhara (per suggestion of Imogen after I mentioned I was going to have three more overnight train rides before my trip was over)
A charcoal grey cashmere sweater (I was on a shopping spree with Imo and couldn't resist because it was $22. I kind of wonder if I should have gotten more. The shopkeeper told us we were cute and we were like, dude, don't worry. We are absolutely buying your shit.)
A very heavy metal Shiva statue (This was a need, not a want)
A certificate for seeing Everest
A red thread bracelet from Abhi on the last day (I'll try to wear this one)
A red and gold shawl from Abhi on the last day (he was literally too good to us; I will miss him a lot, and I wonder if he would genuinely be cool with me one day staying at his empty house in Jodpur because I really want to see more Rajastan)
A Japanese cat pen that looks like Lucifer from a Thai 7-11 (impulse purchase with no regrets)
A little gold Buddha for my cabinet at the railway market (I was definitely overcharged but I wasn't going to argue about $2.50)
A limited edition Lip Monster Kate Lipstick from Eve & Boy (basically Thai Sephora as far as I could tell; Kate is a Japanese brand and the package was cute so that's my justification)
Dry shampoo from Eve & Boy (necessary; my hair is nasty)
At this point I will be leaving Thailand in two days. I will be getting curio items from Cambodia and Vietnam (and maybe Hawaii) but I hopefully won't acquire too much more. At least most of what I got I will definitely use.

Movies I Watched in 2022
1. La Ascension
Based off a real life event where a French-Algerian man climbed Mount Everest with no experience to prove to a woman how much he loved her, this movie follows Samy Diakhaté, a French-Senegalese man, on that quest and his challenge not only to prove how much he loves Nadia but to prove he can actually do something to the people in his neighborhood block. It’s heartwarming, endearing, and inspiring, and because of the twist, really helps connect Samy to the local people of Nepal who while skeptical of him and his inexperience become just as dear of friends and cheerleaders.
2. Queen
When Rani Mehra gets dumped by her fiancée days before their wedding, she’s heartbroken and melancholy until she is convinced to go to Europe using her planned honeymoon. Skeptical and shy at first having never leaving the country she almost goes right back home but thanks to making a friend of her maid in her French hotel, she goes out exploring and learns she can be anything she wants by herself which also gives her the confidence in Amsterdam to overcome her fear of being in a hostel with three boys to become good friends with them as she proves she’s just as good as a renown chef. I love the female empowerment in this movie and more specifically the empowerment to single women that they are just as important as single women.
3. Skater Girl
Faced at 14 with being in a low caste destined to marry early, Rajastan, feels trapped until she runs into a young women visiting from England who introduces her to skateboarding. The freedom of riding on a board is everything Rajastan wants, despite her parents disapproval, and as she works with Jessica to teach other kids and open a skate-park she feels more confidence. Sure this doesn’t solve all her problems and as her parents do force her into early marriage, its unclear of her future, but this movie speaks to the importunacy of finding your passions, fighting through adversity, and not underestimating people who come from places different from your own.
4. This Beautiful Fantastic
A lovely, charming movie with a message of embracing challenges in your own unique way made this a gem to find. Bella is a librarian with hopes of becoming a children’s author, but due to growing up parentless and with a case of OCD that makes her a little peculiar, slowly finds she can do so much more than she thought when after headbutting with her neighbor, learns to create a garden in the outdoors that used to terrify her. Learning she can overcome her fears and learn new skills, she not only befriends the older man but his cook who also become like family to her as she risks love and greater adventure in life. Plus its a love letter to gardening in the best way possible.
5. Zero to Hero
A biopic about Chinese Paralympian So Wai-Wai and his rise to become one of the greats after being born with cerebral palsy. It shows the dedication and trials of him and his mom to prove to people that his disability doesn’t make him different and its absolutely beautiful in showing the relationship between to the two from his birth, rise to success, and retirement. I thoroughly enjoyed it and its pacing even through its tough times and appreciate that it did show the hardships as well as their success.
6. Enola Holmes 2
I really enjoyed the first Enola Holmes, but like this one better for several reasons. The main plot of this movie is really about a young woman trying to make it on her own and prove she is just as capable as any man, including her famous older brother. Sure she’s still young, so the help she gets from Sherlock and her mother when she gets in trouble is endearing, but its also great to see that they don’t hold her back in trying to do what she believes is right. That and I absolutely love her and Lord Tewsberry because even though he is a plant nerd, he respects her and helps her to make their relationship feel like a partnership.
7. Hawaizaada
A very gorgeous and cinematography spectacle of the story behind the man who may in fact have invented flight in Bombay India several years before the Wright Brothers. It was a visual and emotional feast with compelling stories even it might really stretch the truth. Again, I love a story about people persevering through their mistakes and hard times, to achieve the success and passion they dream of, especially when everyone is either laughing in their face or out to get them. A true underdog story that also highlights that the West likes to claim its superior and first in every way, but that’s not true history.
8. Last Night in Soho
One of my Spooktober horror movies that I really really loved. This took a spin on the classic serial killer genre with a sci-fi/supernatural twist of having a modern day somewhat psychic fashion student embody the memories of a young girl hoping for fame and fortune, but falling into cruelty and prostitution. Watching the visual effects of Eloise just slipping into the past, having her falter at what’s real or not, as she watches what happens to Sandie’s life is intriguing and spooky. Especially at the twist at the end that I did not see coming.
9. The Girl King
Getting more visible LGBTQA representation in historical biopics is really great and especially when you get to learn more about historical figures you didn’t know about. This movie follows the rise to ruler of Kristina, Queen of Sweden who doesn’t act like a traditional woman and doesn’t want to be married off when all her life she’s been taught how to rule. Instead as she becomes queen and searches for more knowledge like her father taught her, she becomes a great ruler even if its ahead of her time which is why she’s ultimately driven out of Sweden.
10. The Handmaiden
This movie. Based on the trailer I had really no idea where in the hell this would go and considering it has about three major twists that I did not see coming, I found it absolutely captivating and intriguing. Plus the idea that multiple people who think they are the best con artist can con each other and scheme so well made it so much fun to see how they did it at every turn. And its another win for LGBTQ representation, though the very explicit sex scenes weren’t necessary in my opinion as the resident asexual I am. Still really enjoyed it though.
Other Movies I Watched:
11. Attack the Block 12. Thalaivi 13. Don’t Worry Darling 14. Crazy Rich Asians 15. Your Name Engraved Herein 16. Princess Kaiulani 17. The 13th 18. Frida 19. Gravity 20. IPL Match 43: Maxwell Wallops Rajasthan Royals With Second 50
IPL 2021 (43rd Match) - Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Dubai)
Glenn Maxwell hit his second successive half century as the Royal Challengers Bangalore chased down a target of 150 set by the Rajasthan Royals to win by seven wickets with relative ease in their IPL match in Dubai on Wednesday.
Maxwell struck 50 in just 30 balls with six fours and a six after replacing Virat Kohli at the crease when the Royal Challengers lost their second wicket with 58 runs on the board in the seventh over.
With Maxwell the Royal Challengers finished off the match in the first ball of the 18th over after he and Srikar Bharat (44) put on 69 runs for the third wicket.
Earlier the Rajasthan Royals put into bat got off to a rousing start but lost nine wickets for just 72 runs inside 11.4 overs as their batsmen kept hitting the ball in the air like a fielding coach in a catching practice session.
They scored 77 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs through Evin Lewis (58) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (31) but after Jaiswal was out came a string of dismissals as most of the Rajasthan Royals' batters spent just a few minutes at the crease.
The processions started with Lewis hitting the ball up in the air for the wicket-keeper to get under and take the catch followed by Mahipal Lomror (3) going for a dance down the track and missing the ball completely to be stumped trying to play some kind of a nothing shot.
The two dismissals were followed by Liam Livingstone (6), Rahul Tawitia (2) and Riyan Parag (9) losing their wickets through catches in the out-field.
The end result was that in 16.2 overs the Royals lost six wickets for just 127 runs on the board, as medium pacer Harshal Patel missed a hat-trick, but finished with three scalps for 34 runs off his four overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Shabhaz Ahmed had two wickets each.
Leading run-maker in the Rajasthan Royals team, skipper Sanju Samson fell for 19, caught at deep extra-cover while attempting an inside-out shot in the first ball of the 14th over with the total at 113.
Scores: Rajasthan Royals 149 for 9 in 20 (Evin Lewis 58, Yashasvi Jaiswal 31, Harshal Patel 3 for 34, Yuzvendra Chahal 2 for 18, Shabhaz Ahmed 2 for 10) Royal Challengers 153 for 3 in 17.1 overs (Virat Kohli 25, Srikar Bharat 44, Glenn Maxwell 50 not out, Mushtafizur Rahman 2 for 20)

IPL Match 36: Rajasthan Royals Crash To Fifth Defeat
IPL 2021 (36th Match) - Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals
Rajasthan Royals were humiliated into submission as they were restricted to a megre total of 121 for 6 faced with a target of 155 set by the Delhi Capitals and crashed to their fifth defeat in the IPL in Abu Dhabi today.
The writing was perhaps on the wall when the Rajasthan Royals lost both their openers Liam Livingstone for 1 and Jashasvi Jaiswal for 5 inside just seven balls followed by the wicket of power hitter David Miller who was stumped by Rishabh Pant against a ball from off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 7.
Down to just 17 runs for the loss of three wickets inside five overs, the Royals had only skipper Sanju Samson with the capacity to extricate them from the dumps given the curtailment of runs and the accuracy of the bowlers who claimed their fair share and did not go wicket-less.
Samson tried his best and all he could do was remain unbeaten on 70 from 53 balls with eight fours and a six contributing more than half of Royals' total of 121 as they lost by 33 runs chasing 155.
As expected paceman Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed two wickets for just 18 runs off his four overs.
The Delhi Capitals could not do much and were kept in check from going on an all-out onslaught when they lost the wickets of Prithvi Shaw (10) and Shikhar Dhawan (8) on what appeared to be a slow pitch.
It was left to Shreyas Iyer (43), Rishabh Pant (24) and Shimron Hetmyer (28) to do some lusty hitting and push the total to 154 that appeared to look insufficient against a strong Rajasthan Royals batting line-up that collectively failed.
Scores: Delhi Capitals 154 for 6 in 20 (Shreyas Iyer 43, Rishabh Pant 24, Shimron Hetmyer 28, Mushtafizur Rahman 2 for 22, Chetan Sakariya 2 for 33) Rajasthan Royals 121 for 6 in 20 (Sanju Samson 70 not out, Anrich Nortje 2 for 18)
