There are days when I wonder if I’m #makingadifference by living this blessed #creative life or am I one of many writers who prefer their characters company over the real human interactions? As I stay close to my intentions I witness the difference of my #newperpectives and how I am paying more attention to what matters to me rather than floating along in limbo waiting for “the right time” to write when I know I can write anywhere any time. I just needed to remind myself of this and here I am writing and noticing how grounded I am. I am so grateful for for these moments and how I am able to share a little more each day.💕 Wishing you all a lovely day. - - #startwithgratitude #movingforward #grateful #love #life #blessed #creativelife

New perspective: A Hogwarts Tale, Part two: Charm
Wednesday morning moved in a blur. He couldn’t get her out of his head. He didn’t even know her name. ‘Ms.Armala’, Snape had said. He’d find her. Maybe he’d see her in detention again. He was sitting alone in the library researching rare potions and their properties when he heard the most beautiful laugh. Normally he wouldn’t of looked up but she was still so fresh in his brain he had to check. His eyes searched the room and saw her. She sat with her dark green hair, trying her best to fade into a bookshelf on the floor. A girl clearly in hufflepuff with dirty blonde hair sat beside her talking endlessly. It would appear at first glance that the other girl was talking to herself and that Phoenix wasn’t at all listening but upon closer inspection you could see the slight inclination of her head, the extremely subtle curve of her lips, and her eyes flicker just for a moment off the page to prove her paying attention. The hour was over and the girls got up to leave the library. He jetted in front of them and walked backwards.
“Hey.” She rolled her eyes. “You again.” “Me again.” “Again?” said Kelsey who had never seen this particular Gryffindor in her life. “Kelsey this is-” “Cole T. Beaumont.” He said extending a hand to Kelsey who took it gently. “I’m… Kelsey Dawson.” She said with stars in her eyes. “The pleasure is mine.” He said to her with a wink. Kelsey visibly swooned. Phoenix looked at her sharply. She was clearly not going to be any support in getting rid of this boy. “We’re going to be late.” She said to him. “What class?” He said. “Charms.” It was Kelsey who answered. Phoenix hit herself in the face with her book. “What a coincidence I was headed that way.” “Yes, i’m sure you were.” Phoenix didn’t even try to keep the acid out of her words. “So..” She said nothing. she was set on ignoring him. “I never got your name.” he continued. “I’m Cole…” he tried again, extending his hand. She looked at it. “Phoenix Armala. I know who you are. Cole Tyler Beaumont, 3rd year, Gryffindor, slacker, sleeps through potions class, and you get yourself into quite a bit of trouble with your brutish friends.” “Someone did their homework.” “What is it you want from me?” “To know you?” “No really.” “Really.” “What if I don’t want to know you?” She retorted. “Well...why not?” He said simply. To him it really was simple. To her it was over complicated and easier if he would just bug off. “This is our charms class.” She said in lieu of answering. She entered the room and found her desk. Kelsey sat beside her and he stared from the hall for a moment. The hour hadn’t begun yet. He walked into the room and stood in front of her desk. The attention of the kids who had shown up to class already was on them. “Have lunch with me?” “What?” “Come on… meet me in the courtyard.” “No.” “Lunch once, and then i’ll leave you alone for good.” The bell chimed. The charms professor walked into the room. “Mr.Beaumont, you don’t have charms this hour.” He said peering over his glasses at a chart. “No I don’t.” He said to the professor before looking back at Phoenix “Lunch.” He pleaded with his eyes. “Ms.Armala ? What is the meaning of this?” Cole pursed his lips and stared at her. The whole classroom stared at her and she visibly shrunk in her seat. “Fine! Yes, now Go.” She said shooing him away. He left and winked at the professor on his way out. “See you next hour Professor.” He said and the door closed behind him. When the hour was up Phoenix gathered her things and began to walk in pace with Kelsey as she always did. Though this time Cole stood at the end of the hallway in waiting. She kept her pace even and pretended she didn’t see him. He kept up with her easily and Kelsey eventually departed her class being in another direction. Cole walked her all the way to potions in complete silence and Phoenix without hesitation crossed into the room. When she was sure he wouldn’t follow her she spoke. “Don’t get lost.” She said doing everything in her power not to smile. He blushed a bit before turning and walking back to Charms. For Phoenix the hour went by the quickest it ever had. Everytime she checked the time it seemed to be closer and closer at a ridiculous speed. For Cole it moved in the opposite. Time dragged. He couldn’t even focus on charms class he was too busy counting seconds. Phoenix’s heart raced as she wondered if she might do something to her hair… she quickly discarded that idea as she didn’t want to look as though she were trying. Trying what exactly. She mentally slapped herself. You’re only going cause he begged and embarrassed you. She told herself. Maybe though, just maybe a small part of her had wanted to go. Professor Snape ended the class with an announcement. He would not be teaching potions next year. That a new professor would be appointed as he would be taking over Defense against the dark arts in place of Alastor Moody, who as they all knew by now was actually Bartemius Crouch Junior in disguise via Poly juice potion. It seemed like almost every year a new Defense against the dark arts teacher was appointed. Finally Professor snape would obtain the job he’d wanted for awhile now. Snape had taught potions for longer than any of the current students in his class could remember so at least they’d finally have a Defense against the dark arts teacher that wasn’t going anywhere. Though who the new potions professor would be, Snape did not say. Though this particular piece of information became a note jotted down in her book, Phoenix wasn’t focused on Snape’s voice at all. In fact she was completely lost to her thoughts and managed to wander all the way to the courtyard before she finally was brought to the present by her name being called. “Phoenix!” It was Cole. He was standing at the opposing edge, off in the shadows waving his arms for her to come over. A few students had perked their own eyes in his direction and then slowly they followed his line of sight to her. She ducked her head and went over. “Come on!” He shouted and she picked up the pace to silence his screaming. “Shut up. Shut up.shut up.” She mumbled to herself hoping to use willpower to get the boy to be silent. He continued to wave her over. She finally reached him and dragged his arms out of the sky. “Hey you.” He said smiling at her. She rolled her eyes. “Are you trying to alert the entire school that we’re … um..” “...we’re?” “Having lunch.” She finished unsure where she was going with her original sentence. “No just trying to keep things interesting.” He responded with a wink. “Well?” She said expectantly. “Follow me.” she sighed and walked after him. “I thought we were having lunch in the courtyard” “No, you were meeting me in the courtyard. Lunch awaits us.” He said with a smile. She followed him out of the school and off near the forbidden forest there was a cottage. He knocked on the door. Hagrid answered the door. “Cole! What brings you this way?” “Remember the girl I told you about?” He asked somewhat shyly. When Hagrid nodded he continued “ well this is her, her name is Phoenix.” Phoenix looked at him quizzically but simply shook Hagrid’s hand. “Hello Hagrid.” She smiled. “Phoenix.” He said politely. “How is Fang?” Asked Cole. “A coward as ever” Hagrid grunted waving them inside. Fang ran up to Cole and he knelt down to give the slobbering pup some love. Phoenix took in her surroundings. “A dog lover...” She whispered gently, she learned something new about him constantly it seemed. Phoenix jokingly morphed into a husky and flaunted around the room. “A metamorphmagus?” He asked as she reappeared as a girl before them. “The slytherin metamorphmagus muggleborn?” “Uh.. yeah” she said shrinking to herself. “Amazing” he sat down. “It truly is a pleasure. I imagine Tonks would love to meet you.” “Remus Lupin’s Tonks?” She asked having heard of her. “The very same.” “I would quite like to meet her as well.” Cole stood from his place on the floor with Fang. “So.. Hagrid do you think you might walk us over to the field we saw the other day. I’d like to show Phoenix.” He turned to Phoenix and said “It’s restricted to students unsupervised.” “I’m a little busy actually. But…” He leaned in to whisper “I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.” Phoenix giggled and Cole broke into a devilish smile, one that almost made Phoenix swoon… almost. The headed down to the field and part of the path cut through the forbidden forest. They finally made it to a clear grassy space. Trees surrounded them on all sides. “What’s so special about this place?” she asked confused. It looked like a normal clearing. He brought his fingers to his lips to make a silent ‘sh’. He took her hand and she blushed as he did it. Though his eyes weren’t on her this time, he was focused ahead of him as he brought her to the center of the field. He repositioned her slightly and then stood in front of her so he could watch her reaction. They sat in silence for a few minutes and she was just about to open her mouth to protest the insanity of the situation when the sun rose just above the clearing. It peeked its head out from behind the trees and clouds and the rays of light lit up the place. The grass seemed to breath as it visibly hummed beneath them. Whisks of colors and bubbles were pushed out of the ground like air out of lungs. Tiger lilies bloomed the field in a sudden explosion of orange and pink. Amaryllis flowers sprang up from in between them. It was a moment of magick. She was in awe of the smell of fresh flowers suddenly surrounding them. The sun on her face was warm and the wind in her hair was magnificent. She was smiling ear to ear, her hair normally dark green exploded back into its natural auburn and the sun gave it natural copper highlights. The tan in her skin returned just a few shades darker than the pale caramel she kept it at. She spun amongst the grass giggling. Rainbows split across the clearing as the sun light reflected off the bubbles. “What is this ?” She asked breathless, her eyes returning to him. His eyes never left her. To him she was the most stunning thing in the clearing. “Listen.” She was quiet and stood still. The lilies on the ground were singing. It was a pleasant beautiful sound. It started off a low hum and built to a crescendo. The flowers seemed to sing a song that was absolutely unexplainable. It burst with a classical hum that vibrated into something anyone could dance to. Just then a thestral wandered into the clearing. Phoenix was visibly taken aback. She watched it enter at the edge of the clearing. She was so focused on the creature gently grazing in the field that she hadn’t notice Cole watching her reaction. “Are you okay?” She swallowed hard. “Yeah, i’m fine.” “You don’t look fine.” He put a hand on her shoulder. She shrunk. She stood normally taller than him but she was almost a foot shorter now. Her breathing quickened as her heart pounded hard against her ribcage, trying to flee her body. “Phoenix… if this is about the thestral, you can relax they’re really gentle creatures.” She looked up at Cole surprised and confused. “You can see them too?” “Yeah…” “I...know they’re gentle… They just give me anxiety. They…” she was struggling to get the explanation out. “They remind me of what i’ve lost and it doesn’t really help that no one can really see them. They make me feel like… such an outsider…” His fingertips slowly glided down her shoulder and found her palm. With his hand gently pressed in hers she felt bigger. She slowly returned to normal size. “What happened… if you don’t mind me asking.” She took a seat in the clearing amongst the flowers and Cole spilled himself onto the green beside her. “My mom…” she said, there was a crack in her voice as she started to remember. “She…” “Thestrals can only be seen by people who've seen death...” he whispered “I was there. It was dark something broke into our home late at night. She isn’t magical she didn’t know... My parents were both muggles.” “Were? What about your dad?” “He’d been gone for years already...I was hiding in the cabinet, I didn’t know what it was… I didn’t save her.” “How...old were you?” “Eight.” Phoenix dropped her head into the small space between her chest and her knees. She hugged herself tight trying to keep the pain of the memory from spreading. Cole did the only thing he thought he could do, he wrapped his arms around her too. “There was nothing you could have done… no way you could have known. You were young and it was probably so scary...I’m really sorry.” He whispered to her in the clearing. Suddenly the temperature dropped. It was freezing. The flowers shrunk back into the grass covered in frost. Shadows filled the sky. The clouds seemed to be blocking out the sun. It wasn’t clouds… “No.” She said standing and drawing her wand. “No!” She screamed angrily with tears in her eyes. “Never again.” Her heart was pounding in her chest and her blood was boiling against the cold air. You could see her breath as she exhaled hard and closed her eyes. The grip on her wand relaxed and she forced her mind to stop racing. Cole was standing beside her now his wand in his left hand and his right in hers. She let her mind flood with the feeling of his hand in hers, she let her heart drown in the sensation of Kelsey and her bracelets, of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry and it’s positives, of the flowers in the meadow singing a few moments before, of her mother singing her a lullaby to get her to sleep. “Expecto Patronum!” her voice sang through the air and a patronus charm oozed out of her wand. It shot out a white substance that danced around her it turned shape and flew through the air, a defender protecting them from any harm, a guardian in the sky, a Phoenix. Her grip tightened on Cole’s hand as the phoenix made circles in the sky protecting the clearing she started to run and he followed her. They ran as fast they could through the edge of the forest and back up the hill. Finally they saw the safety of hagrid’s home and dove through the door closing it behind them. “Hagrid!” Cole said still a bit winded from the run. “I was just about to come get ye. There looks like there is Dementors out above the forest.” “There is.” said Phoenix quietly. “You can conjure a patronus?” Cole said to Phoenix, more of a fascinated statement than question. “She can?” Hagrid peered at her. “Yeah…” They were both looking at her waiting for an explanation. “The things that attacked my mom. It was a Dementor.” “Dementor?” Said Hagrid “Attacking a muggle? Never heard of it.” “My dad had passed… they said she had so much sadness in her heart…even the Dementors couldn’t resist...” an angry tear raced down phoenix’s left cheek. “A patronus at 4th year…” Hagrid said. “I learned the charm from a professor here my first year. I kept having nightmares of them coming for me… I couldn’t… handle it. I would wander late at night through the halls because I couldn’t sleep. One night I got caught... He taught me how to control the fear. He armed me with my own protection. He taught me a patronus. I was stubborn enough that by second year I had mastered it and the nightmares went away.” “Which professor?” “Professor Severus Snape.” Cole looked gently surprised and Hagrid echoed the surprise on Cole’s face and magnified it. “The potions professor teaching a 1st year student defense against the dark arts well above her year.” “Kind of like the groundskeeper harboring students of every year and maybe letting them enter forbidden sections of the forest?” Hagrid’s mouth hung open… and then he closed it. They had a point. Phoenix smirked. “Still the dementors cannot be a good sign… not with .. you know who around.” “So you think the rumors are true? Harry potter really did face off with voldemort...” “ He really did kill cedric?” Hagrid shhhed Phoenix at the name Voldemort and turned to Cole with wide eyes at the mention of Cedric. “I… should not have said that.. Nope should not have said that at all…” “Hagrid. Say his name. You know who…. Dancing around him? It gives him more power. The fear. I Say Voldemort like you would say Bunnies because he’s not going to feed off of my fear. Not anymore.” Phoenix stood tall and Cole stopped to admire the girl with the dark green hair in Hagrid’s home. He watched her hair turn white and he watched her leave it that way. “Bunnies never killed hundreds of good witches and wizards.” Hagrid said to Phoenix with a warning. Phoenix and Cole headed back into Hogwarts they were late for the next hour. They were walking the halls and stopped right outside the girl’s bathroom to talk for a moment. “Your patronus is a Phoenix, that can’t be a coincidence.” “I had muggle parents, do you really think they named me phoenix?” “But even teachers call you Phoenix...So then...what’s your name?” “ Teachers call me Ms. Armala. Professor Snape introduced me as Phoenix first year and I never corrected anyone. As for my name…? You’ll just have to wait and find out.” She stuck her tongue at him and danced off down the hall her newly silver locks bouncing behind her as she entered transfiguration late. He had charms…. Professor Sprout was not going to be happy with him today.
