Last weekend we visited @guilfordnps in Greensboro, #NorthCarolina. The park commemorates the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, fought on March 15, 1781. Although this battle was won by the British, it opened the campaign that led to American victory in the #RevolutionaryWar. The losses by the British in this battle contributed to their surrender at Yorktown seven months later. The American forces were under the command of Nathanael Greene. The military park was established on March 2, 1917. It was transferred from the War Department to the @NationalParkService on August 10, 1933. During the time of the battle, New Garden Road, which has mostly been preserved as a foot/bicycle path, was the main thoroughfare through this area and remains.
