Last month, one of my best friends, Meagan, was on her way up to Dallas and stopped for food at a McDonald's off I-45 and this sweet, LOUD, hungry little kitten came running up to her. She'd been running around the parking lot, meowing, dodging cars, looking for someone to help her. It was due to hit below freezing that night, and she couldn't bear to leave the poor girl, but didn't know what to do as her airbnb wouldn't let her bring her with, and it was already 10pm, so vets and shelters were all closed. So she called me. I was able to arrange for this sweet girl to spend the night at my mom's house in the DFW area, which, due to a combination of circumstances, turned into two weeks! Eventually, we were able to get her back down to me in Houston. We put out some feelers for any lost cats in the area she was found, but no luck, and she doesn't have a microchip, so this sweet girl is officially an HPA foster kitty! Meet Mac, so named for her love for cheeseburgers, which Meagan happily shared with her on their drive to my mom's house. She's a sweet and feisty little lady! And a HUGE thank you to Meagan for picking her up and to my mom for taking care of her until she could get to me! 🌺NEW FOSTERS🌺 Meet beautiful Mama Loa (named after the Hawaiian volcano) and her four plump little lava rocks! These sweethearts came in today to @anderson.animal.shelter on a transport from a southern shelter. The babies are 1 week old and are just opening their eyes. Loa looks around 1 year old. She’s also a polydactyl cat! See those thumbs? _________________________________________________ There are three tabby babies and 1 black and white baby. I think there are two females and two males, but I have to get a better look! Intoducing Wendy, Lara, Bobby and Wags. ☺ These little guys are my latest fosters and they're just 3 weeks old! Found orphaned at a winery, it was a race against time to get them into care. Orphaned kittens this young will die without a carer and the care they need is rather intensive (feeding and care 24/7 until they are 5-6 weeks) so many shelters choose to euthanise them. These guys are the lucky ones. The ones who were found and who survived but there are many more who die, starving and shaking or worse without their mother or anyone to care for them. Please, please Desex your pets. I see so many kittens in need every day and it breaks my heart. Desex your cats, keep them indoors (I don't even want to go into how outdoor cats die and the toll they take on our native wildlife) and be responsible. A pet is a lifelong commitment. And if possible, become a foster carer!
