Uncanny stuff behind the rocks. Cronenberg coined the term #newflesh in his film Videodrome. I think that’s what this is. Today’s hands. Seventh set with this prompt. #hands with #stablediffusion #machinelearning . I plan on generating 101 as an experiment. I could probably set that output all at once but something feels intuitively right about producing them in small batches ( of 5 -10) lately. I also started another set that simply uses the word touch as the only prompt and another set using the word longing. Lately I’m filling rooms with beings and things. https://www.instagram.com/p/CoyT_XlLkUG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

i think my mind just wants me to be scared of zombies. im not scared when watching zombie movies or reading books with zombies in them. I find them boring usually. but whenever i dream about zombies, i always wake up literally shivering with fright. I didn't even see the zombies this time. they were, like hiding in the distance, and i woke up before they actually became a problem.
#personal#the best zombie stories are the ones about how society functions in this new version of reality#like newflesh

whats your favorite non-VC media (book, movie, game, whatever) and why?
-mothmage
Oooh that's a good question! There are a lot of non-VC things I love but it's hard to pick a favorite.
Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters are probably the other pieces of media that I imprinted on at a young age and really shaped who I am as a person (which is to say, I would love a job in the Talamasca and I would absolutely visit a dinosaur park if one opened, regardless of the risks.)
The only book series I've ever been half as feral about as the VC is Newflesh by Mira Grant, which is a series set 20 years after a zombie outbreak but like... the world didn't end, it adapted, and yet zombies are still a threat and it's about a plucky group of journalists, one of whom goes a little mad for a chunk of the series so... I have a type, is what I'm saying.
Thank you so much for the ask!

4 from your ask game please
Hi anon! Thank you for this ask, it gives me a chance to sort through my fic idea list!
4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
So a quick check of my fic ideas list (taking out the ones I've done/am currently posting) I have 93! Some are more well defined than others (and several will likely be combined if/when I actually write them).
One idea I don't think I've mentioned here, is my no capes zombie apocalypse AU that is loosely based on the first part of the Newflesh trilogy by Mira Grant (things get a little weird later in the series, but the set up is spectacular).
Basically it would take place about a decade or two after the zombie apocalypse began to show the new normal for the next generation who grew up with the threat of zombies as an everyday thing. Billy, Mary, and Freddy would run their own website that documents their adventures as members of the press (this includes fighting zombies, uncovering conspiracies, reporting the news, much more!) Each chapter would include excerpts from their site, written by one of the trio as we explore how the world is different from the one we know. We can see cameos from other characters (especially other reporters like Lois Lane, Clark Kent, Iris West, Linda Park etc) and use them to contrast 'i lived through the zombie apocalypse' with 'i was born into the zombie apocalypse'.
I think it would be really fun, though I imagine there aren't a whole lot of people who are fans of both Shazam/Captain Marvel and the Newsflesh triology.
#ask me whatever you want y'all#shazam#billy batson#dc captain marvel#fic ideas#fanfic ask game#fanfic asks#This idea has lived rent free in my head for ages#it's so specific but I love it#i'm actually obsessed with zombies if you didn't know

Newflesh Syndrome is a psychiatric disorder commonly found among psychic species capable of estabilishing mental connections with members of other species, consciously or unconsciously. In such a connection, the boundaries between the minds of those linked are slowly eroded as time passes, which allows various subconcious aspects of the mind to flow freely between both individuals. The impact of this transference is often minimal for temporary connections, having roughly the same effect on one's psyche as experiencing a conversation or fictional story. However, repeated psychic exposure to other species can result in far more substantial symptoms, as the psychic's mind takes on the subconscious mentality of another species.
Those suffering from Newflesh Syndrome typically experience strange base instincts or phantom senses incompatible with their own species. This leads to a number of negative symptoms, including mood swings, dysphoria, fatigue, physical discomfort and pain, loss of appetite, partial loss of motor control, and sensitivity or partial loss in one or more senses. A sudden change in food preference, or dreams rooted in non-existent biology (such as an individual dreaming of their teeth falling out, despite lacking such a body part) are early signs that Newflesh Syndrome may be setting in, and should not be ignored. Though certain medications can ease these symptoms, complete recovery is only possible through abstaining from any mental links for a period of at least a few weeks. Physical exertion during this time helps ground the mind in its body and hasten the recovery process, and those employed in the psychic industry usually must stop working every so often for this reason, and shed the psychic detritus they have accumulated.
Most individuals will cease forming psychic connections of their own accord once the sydrome has progressed far enough, recognising its impact and seeking help. If they should continue, their symptoms will intensify, leading to distorted speech, difficulty remembering past events, and complete loss of coordination in movement. At this stage, the individual will be unable to recognise themselves in a mirror, and self-portaits will depict a grotesque amalgamation of their native body and whatever species they have become psychically immersed in. Other mental conditions will often develop at this point, which can persist for potentially the rest of the individual's life, even if a recovery from Newflesh Syndrome is made.

Queer art
Queer art aantekeningen
Definitie volgens de Queer Dicitionary:
An umbrella term used proudly by some people to identify themselves as members of the lesbian, gay, bi and/or trans communities or cultures. Ocassionally used by someone who whises to defy gender or sexual restrictions.
Volgens Linus van der Maas;
Nowadays, the term Queer is more variously defined than ever before. It has not only to do with identity or sexuality, Being queer is not the same as being gay. Queer means lots of things to lots of different people.
-Queer became the preffered label for many people in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum because of its's lack of a fixed meaning and the spirit of social deviance it connotes
Ella Shohat
-Revisionism; the critical re-examination of presumed historical facts and existing historiography
-Area studies;the study of the history, politics, economics, and cultures of various areas of the world or of a particular area of the world
-Relational studies; A study that investigates the connection between two or more variables is considered relational research. The variables compared are generally already present in the group or population
Arca, overvloed!
Chapter 1: The ambiguity of queer
Queer -> Can be experienced as ambigous -> used in a variety of ways throughout history (with contradictory or overlapping contexts)
Queer -> 16th century: "strange", "odd", 'peculiar" or "eccentric"
Term grew to be used highlight that homosexuality was abnormal and strange.
Reclaimed in the AIDS epidemic -> symbol of anarchy.
Queer -> state of being, way of thinking, and a way to act.
The word queer became a container concept; a concept that can mean so much that it means nothing.
Chapter two: Queer art recognized
queer stereotypes: -Two men slightly too close to each other
-Boy has feelings (Gay men have more abilty to show emotion compared to straight men)
-bright colors
-mullet
-piercings
-coloured hair
-tooth gem
What is there arent obvious stereotypical characteristics? How can it be recognized as Queer?
Salman toor -> makes works about the insights of the Queer community.
Newflesh -> artists encouraged to investigate what queerness looks like beyond the body. allowed to explore freely without restrictions. cutting, pasting, mixing -> Queer way of thinking and being.
"One of the main concerns of queer appropiation is that if your use of Queer imagery is divorced from the complex lived expierence of being a Queer person, then the work might end up trading in stereotypes or being reducitve." -Paul Clinton, Queer theory writer
"I don't know if you can tell someone not to use [Queer imagery], as long as it is handeld sensitively and sensibly. We need allies; artists need to take a stand and support the movement, whatever we are Queer or not." Zanelle Muhol, artist and activist
internet -> Queer artists can be open about their identity, but is their identity now always connected to their work?
Viewer needs context -> Neglecting this deletes identity and artists intention.
Queer art is isn't objectively different from other art; you sometimes can't immediatly see wether an artwork is Queer. Context important to represent Queerness in the art world.

Well there is the Newflesh trilogy and Rolling in/ Into the drowning deep by Mira grant aka Seanan McGuire (both have a hint of science fiction and the first is about zombies while the others are about horror mermaids).
While aside from those I don’t have much recs, if you want to read a horror romance comedy story then there is Someone you can build a nest in by John Wiswell about a shape shifting blob monster that falls in love with a human who is also a monster hunter.
Actually. In that vein, does anyone have any good recommendations for horror books (that aren't stephen king)?
Ive been looking for some new ones to read but a lot of them just seem really tame not really what i was looking for.

Current Joys - New Flesh
Current Joys is the enigmatic solo project of Henderson, Nevada-born songwriter Nicholas Rattigan. His music is something between anger and dejection, hope and almost lethargic emptiness.
