Grim Reader here ☠️ I’m wondering about Bucky and his feelings about that baby….and how it plays into his adjusting after the camps and post-war. I assume it’s going to be a painful memory for him and when he finally finds someone, he’s worried about miscarriages….like if someone as noble and good as Ida Brady can lose a baby, then someone with his checkered past and actions doesn’t deserve a child either? Idk, it just makes me think of how self-destructive he’d continue to be in his relationships post war because of the things he’s seen and had to do. And he already feels wildly out of place bc of how alone he is, but add to the fact that he thought of himself as the father and that’s brutal.
Hello my dear, I’ve missed you, *pets head*
I’ve got a rather massive one shot queued up on this very aspect, it’s not the full of it, no, but it’s a massive part of his arc in this story and the bereft feeling that peacetime brought with it. While I have a vague intention for his marriage and family to closely resemble his real one in this AU, it will be postponed, rash as he may be once he marries anyway, it’s simply not at all on the cards in 1945 for this AU, his emotional fidelity is split about three ways in this one, and there was a whole life he has planned and dedicated to himself that didn’t happen, twice over. It is going to be brutal but it’s also one of my fave parts as it explores what a heart this man has, beyond a romantic one.
Here, have a snippet, I haven’t got a title for it yet but it takes place after Jack Brady’s wedding in 1945:
Tumblr media
There is a stubborn silence in which she can hear Bucky’s labored breaths practically repeating that he is not, in fact, weeping into her pillow mid morning on a Saturday in Victor, New York. She pats his arm -suit yourself- and pulls away to begin her day. She lights a cigarette, not having fully quit the filthy habit since camp, and grabs a pair of slacks and a shirt from the closet, needing a shower.
“You kept your baby doll.” his voice comes muffled and stuffy from the bed, she glances over and sees he has barely moved, only turned on his side to stare at the threadbare doll propped on her bookcase.
“That’s Minnie.” Ida introduces them with a grin, “Don’t sound so shocked Major, I’d have thought you’ve been in enough boudoirs to know that plenty of women keep their dolls.”
Bucky keeps staring at Minnie morosely, not laughing at her tease. “Did you keep it for your daughter?” he asks.
Sometimes John Egan reminds Ida of a callously curious child, his sympathy sometimes as wounding as his barbs. She refuses to read into it, he is hungover and he is confused by her childish relic; she keeps pace in her routine and replies with honesty, “I hadn’t thought about it.”
“Well I do.” he mutters instantly, bitterly, accusingly.
“Beg pardon?” she cautions him.
“I think about your baby all the damn time.” he turns around in the sheets then, sits himself up in her bed, eyes raw and dangerous.
The frog from Egan’s throat now takes up residence in Ida’s, she thinks she might choke on her own breath. “Why-“ panicked, her chest begins to shutter, ears ringing, hands cold. Why would he say that? “Bucky!” she'd have taken a stab in the heart over this, why would he- “Why would you say that?” she begs hoarsely, forced to sit beside him on the bed as her legs are no longer steady.
“You really don’t?” he begs in turn, looking as wretched as she feels.
“I-I-“ Ida digs her fingernails into her thigh, willing the cacophony in her head to cease, to get a grip back on the lid of that tiny coffin, “I’m not doing this. Not this morning, not when I’ve got breakfast to make for a household of people and -my brother just got married, Egan! Is this really the time to bring it up? They’re going to make jokes about you being in here! God’s sake -can’t you possess a modicum of sensitivity.”
It’s not a question. It’s an insult and he takes it on the chin. He knows that his own question -asking if she even recalls her dead child- was one of his own. That doesn’t prevent one last building tear to slip the dam and join the mess on his cheeks, because his heart is nothing if not on the opposing team.

Born on this day: totally unique post-punk No Wave chanteuse Cristina (Cristina Monet Palaci, 17 January 1956 – 1 April 2020) who made precisely two barbed, weird and distinctive albums - released by the cutting edge Ze label - that flopped commercially and then retired from music. Cristina’s trademark is setting scathing observations to perky music, and she mostly sings and writes within the persona of a jaded party girl or gold digger (a tradition that dates to Mae West and Eartha Kitt). Self-titled debut Cristina (1980) (reissued in 2004 as Doll in the Box) is her mutant disco album. Lushly produced by Kid Creole, it’s campy fun with Latin rhythm in its hips (if you like cowbell, this is the album for you!), but I prefer the 1984 follow-up, the tougher, darker and more cutting New Wave pop of Sleep It Off. Cristina’s venomous, spikily funny lyrics work as wry poetry already, but then she enunciates them in an alienated, deadpan can't-be-bothered snarl (she has “resting bitch voice”, occasionally punctuated with a Johnny Rotten sneer). Here’s a sampling of her wit and wisdom: “My life is in a turmoil / My thighs are black and blue / My sheets are stained, so is my brain / What's a girl to do?” from "What’s A Girl to Do?" is as lacerating as anything found on Lydia Lunch’s 1980 magnum opus Queen of Siam. “Don't tell me that I'm frigid / Don't try to make me think / I'll do just fine without you / Don’t mutilate my mink” from her punk masterpiece “Don’t Mutilate My Mink”. (In their obit, The Guardian describes it as sounding like Audrey Hepburn fronting the Sex Pistols). Like many abrasive early eighties New York punk funk musicians (see also: James Chance of The Contortions), she may initially work best in small doses and for many may be an acquired taste. But think of Cristina as analogous to Campari – once you acquire that taste, you wondered how you ever lived without it. Portrait by Jean-Paul Goude.

So I'm totally going to finish my current WIP (I've got maybe two chapters to go? Three if I count the epilogue) but I've been playing with the idea of the grandson of Lorrimer Van Helsing (who is also named Lorrimer and looks like young Peter Cushing) hunting down Dracula in 90s New York City. I'd be using Dracula A.D. 1972 canon this time around rather than The Horror of Dracula.
Not only have I played with the idea, I've got one chapter written and I'm sort of loving it? The heroine wears baby doll dresses and fights off Dracula with her custom Betsey Johnson bag which coincidentally is decorated with a big bedazzled cross. I've got a title and I pulled it from a Cranberries song and there's lots of Hammer Studio Easter eggs throughout! This might be too self indulgent to post anywhere, but I don't know.
Meanwhile my original fic is staring at me all appalled like that girl in the meme where her boyfriend is blatantly checking out another girl

❧ Name: Rose Thatcher ❧ Nickname: Rosie ❧ Age: 25 ❧ Gender: Cis woman, she/her ❧ Orientation: Queer ❧ Relationship: Single ❧ Occupation: Sewing Pattern Maker/Designer ❧ Residence: Town ❧ Title: The Broken Doll ❧ Faceclaim: Lily-Rose Depp
❧ Personality -
Kind / Empathetic / Friendly / Earnest Paranoid / Skittish / Volatile / Emotional
❧ Introduction -
tw: mentions of sexual and psychological abuse and suicide
Rose’s parents were a couple of high schoolers who got pregnant at seventeen near the end of their senior year. Rose’s mother’s parents were wealthy and conservative and very concerned with public perception. They freaked out and forbade her mother from seeing her baby daddy, packed everything up and moved to Huntsville, dragging Rose’s mother kicking and screaming.
She was 18 when Rose was born, and while the plan was to give Rose up for adoption and return to their cushy life (pretending nothing had happened), Rose’s mother decided she wanted to keep the baby. Her parents weren’t happy, but once Rose was born they decided to help.
Unfortunately their “help” ended up basically taking over everything. While Rose’s mother was grateful at first, she began to grow weary of the constant hovering and decision making without her input.
So she took Rose and left for New York. Rose was ten at the time with a “boyfriend” named Noah who was her best friend. She didn’t want to leave, and this time she was the one kicking and screaming.
They settled into their tiny New York apartment and Rose slowly got used to the city. Her mother did everything she could to make up for it, and spoiled Rose as best she could whenever she could. So when Rose was scouted at 13 to be a model, she said yes to Rose’s request to go to the auditions. She was signed onto a child modeling agency and began to book gigs.
It turned out to be a lucrative career, and they ended up able to move into a better apartment and eventually Rose’s mom didn’t have to work two jobs anymore. Rose enjoyed the clothes and make up and she felt beautiful in them.
When she turned 18, she switched agencies, a more popular one that a lot of big designers used frequently. She was excited for the opportunity at first, but then everything went sideways.
Her manager at the agency was well-known in the industry and praised for his taste. However, behind the scenes he was notorious for overbooking his models and treating them terribly. He set his eyes on Rose as soon as she joined. He coerced her to begin sleeping with him, threatening to blacklist her in the industry if she didn’t. He psychologically abused her as well, taunting and gaslighting her, until she didn’t know what was real and lost all sense of self.
Five years into this torture, it got out that she was sleeping with her manager. Outcry at the scandal rocked the modeling world, and her manager pinned it on her, calling her an evil seductress. She was blacklisted and with nothing left to live for, she attempted suicide in her hotel bathroom.
She was found and admitted into a mental health clinic where she spent six months recovering. Once she was discharged, she decided to return to Huntsville, hoping for a quieter life. She arrived in January 2023, and has been quietly working as a designer of sewing patterns for those who make their own clothes. She still struggles with mental health issues, but being away from her abuser has helped immensely.

DuckTales Character Songs! (Part 4)
And now, here’s the last of 4 parts of my DuckTales character playlist. This time, I’ll be highlighting songs for recurring characters from Season 3 (with one exception, mind you). Sorry it’s a bit late, but regardless, it’s here.
Links to my previous songs:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 2, continued
Part 3
Part 3, continued
And once again, a shoutout to @glowyjellyfish on brainstorming these some with me.
Black Heron
Paint It, Black by The Rolling Stones
First off, I’m kicking myself a little, because how did I forget doing a song for Heron to this point? That said, I guess it kinda makes sense having her song here, considering she was such a big part of F.O.W.L., the main villains of Season 3, so…yeah.
Anyway, this song is very serious, blunt, and kinda dark, like her. It’s also kind of a nod to the fact that the Darkwing Duck iteration of F.O.W.L. was largely a shadowy organization without a real concrete face of it.
Steelbeak
POWER by Kanye West
I was going back and forth as to whether I should use this song. But ultimately, I did. At times during the song, the title is a reference to a power trip, which Steelbeak ultimately did go on when he used the Intelli-Ray in The Last Adventure! Kanye is very bombastic and polarizing, a lot like Steelbeak himself. A lot of the time, he chooses to use his brute strength to forge ahead, and tries to prove all his doubters wrong, even those he works with. So really, regardless of what you might think of Kanye, his music works well for Steelbeak’s narrative.
Daisy Duck
Grown Woman by Beyoncé
No original version of the song? Come on, Spotify!
Anyway, as easy as it could be to choose a song about Daisy, it’s also just as easy to mess it up. She’s way more that just a pretty face. She’s an absolute go-getter that knows what she wants out of life, has worked super hard in the fashion industry, and given both her age and her status, she can do what she wants, but doesn’t let it go to her head.
Phantom Blot
Man in Black by Johnny Cash
Besides his attire, this song kinda plays off of Blot’s backstory, being against magic after Magica laid waste to his town. His attire presumably took on a more somber tone after this, and he started hunting magic users down. Until things can be seen as brighter for him, the Blot will wear all black.
Gosalyn Mallard
Whatever It Takes by Imagine Dragons
Gosalyn has had a rough life. Her parents die, she loses her grandfather, she’s been on the run from her life circumstances. However, she thrives off of the uncertainty, pushing through barriers, just doing whatever she can to get through life. Also, I just feel like ID’s music in general really suits her edgy, sometimes jaded personality.
The Fearsome Five (well, Four)
Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood and the Destroyers
We didn’t get much of the Fearsome Five (especially Negaduck) in DuckTales, but I think this song sums them up pretty well as villains.
Kit Cloudkicker and Molly Cunningham
Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters
The Greatest Show by Panic! at the Disco from The Greatest Showman
Honestly, I gotta mention this TaleSpin duo in the same breath here. I’d say these songs are mostly self-explanatory. Kit’s a pilot trying to hone his talent (don’t really remember TaleSpin, but from what I’ve gathered, DuckTales did his character all wrong); Molly started her own sky circus, and what better song to embrace the role of ringleader with than this banger? (It has grown on me over the years, I won’t lie.)
May and June (Duck)
Who Are the Mystery Girls? by New York Dolls
Okay, like with a couple of the other songs I’ve used, the lyrics aren’t the most appropriate to describe the situation, but the title…yeah, it’s just the general sentiment for most of The Last Adventure!: “Who are the mystery girls?” Some of the characters, Webby especially, are just trying to figure out May and June.
And that’s it! My complete list of character songs for DuckTales! I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did making the list. As for my next musical foray into DuckTales, I will say this: it’s arguably a bit more complicated than just character songs. So stay tuned!

AllMusic Staff Pick: Kiss Kiss
Kiss' 1974 self-titled debut, released 50 years ago today, is one of hard rock's all-time classic studio recordings. Kiss is chock full of their best and most renowned compositions, containing elements of Rolling Stones/New York Dolls party-hearty rock & roll, Beatles tunefulness, and Sabbath/Zep heavy metal, and wisely recorded primal and raw by producers Richie Wise and Kenny Kerner (of Gladys Knight fame).

Hi, SwiftiePride anon again, hope you're having a great Tuesday! I'm glad to be getting to know you. 😊 I'd love to hear more about some of your favorite songs on 1989 and folklore! What are some of the most meaningful lyrics to you? What are your top 5 (or 10 or 13 or whatever number you want haha) Taylor songs of all time? They don't need to be from those two albums. 😊 Have a good week!!!!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💖
I am so sorry I haven't responded to this yet. It's been a very busy week for me which is 'new' to me having been in a deep depressive slump for 6 years.
I'm not sure you want an essay on this so i'll try not to be as BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH as I normally am!
I was tangentially a Taylor Swift fan pre 1989. I liked singles, sang along to them. When Red came out was when I really started to pay attention (the pop sounds are more my taste certainly) but it wasn't just the pop that got me it was the riveting storytelling. WANEGBT is such a fun romp of a music video-which leads me to 1989.
Shake it Off: I was in my 30s when Shake it Off came out and it was such a great time, watching it take over and be played EVERYWHERE. It was not just an earworm, but (along with the video) made Taylor into a fool for herself. She was so totally self effacing that it made everyone fall in love with her and the music. She recognized herself as a clown-and the media's obsession with her was the circus. I have a whole essay that I came to tumblr to write about initially about how as a result of learning how to do this myself my job title literally got to be "Rockstar" (I worked as an IT Director at a national non profit)
Welcome to New York: An underrated song of the experience of moving to new york (something I too had done in my early 20s)
Blank Space: A brilliant satire and feminist critique of the narrative the world had built around her. A banger to boot. (And more making fun of her self) For years this was my favorite Taylor Swift song.
Style: Probably the sexiest song I know. The lines alone don't do it justice, but the way she sings "He said what you heard is true but I, can't stop thinking about you, and I, I say i been there too a few times" Is some deeply passionate relatable real romance. This wasn't the fairytale romance of "love story" this was people with chemistry who keep trying other things and keep being drawn back to each other. This wasn't just sex, this was magnetism and the tone she incants with it is so evocative.
Clean: Catharsis. A song that relates to addiction of any kind. "so i punched a hole in the roof" was more powerful than the climax any show or series i'd watched or read. It breaks me every time. It is the perfect end to the album.
(weird coincidence time: Wonderland was what I called the world that my boyfriend and I had built together as a safe retreat from the world. I have always had an Alice in Wonderland obsession, i have a whole spot in my house filled with Alice dolls and books. I bought this house because it had a cool display cabinet built into the front hall. I joined this fandom (april 14th) after breaking up with my boyfriend (on april 8th a few hours before the rumors about taylor and joe breaking up reached me) and losing my 'Wonderland'...I did not know literally, honestly till april 20th of this year that Taylor had a Wonderland on 1989. And then-as i was reeling from this information-the next night Taylor did Wonderland as her secret song.)
Wait I think I have failed at not writing an essay somehow.
Folklore is ...really raw for me right now? I have trouble thinking about it or talking about it because so much of my relationship is bound up in me using those songs to communicate how i was feeling with my ex.
Mirrorball was our love song though. A sad tragedy of me always spinning for him-desperate to keep his attention. It's beautiful but it's a terrible fate to always be working for the attention of one person and they're not working to get yours.
... :(
which is i guess where Hoax comes in. he never cheated on me-just, had lots of other stuff going on and didn't have as much time for me as I had for him? I was everything to him by words-but by actions and where he spent his time and how he spent his time....it was a faithless love and i desperately was begging him for a reason to stay in the relationship.
and Peace: I am a tormented woman. I have incredible gifts and love and sincerity in abundance, but my depression takes and takes and takes. There is no happy ending with me-there is little comfort to be found. And I could give love forever and never love myself.
i um

Petra Collins
CV
Petra Collins is a multi-talented artist and director whose photography set the stylistic tone for much of the 2010s. Shooting since the age of 15, her work is fueled by self-discovery and a contemporary femininity which explore the complex intersection of life as a young woman online and off. Collins weaves through the worlds of art, fashion, film, and music. She is currently working on her narrative feature debut set to shoot in 2021.
Books
2021
Fairytales Rizzoli, 1st edition, 152 pages, Hardcover, 9 x 11
Fairy Tales is an erotic folklore of short stories shot by Petra Collins starring Alexa Demie. The pair created the concept and text collaboratively. Alexa portrays nine characters that embody new stories they would have liked to see. As children, Petra and Alexa were both enamored with fairy tales, which provided an escape from their own painful realities.
Each of the nine tales are set in unique spaces, ranging from suburban homes and parking lots to fantastical sets. Petra and Alexa’s chapters of elves, mermaids, sirens, water sprites, fallen angels, fairies, witches, and banshees blend their own stories with retold fairy tales. The photos combine elements of camp, prosthetics, and shibari in a surreal update to the imagery of the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, Charles Perrault, and others.
2020
Miért vagy te, ha lehetsz én is? Baron Books, 1st edition, 166 pages, Hardcover, 22.00 × 28.50 cm
With the book’s Hungarian title Miért vagy te, ha lehetsz én is? Collins asks us: Why be you, when you can be me? Collins uses the camera as the third person. It captures historical truths (such as a time and place) and an emotional reality with a complicated relationship to intention and perception. Working with the sculptor Sarah Sitkin, Collins creates moulds of her body as well as her sisters to gain ownership, in a world where our bodies live in multiple realities. This new body of work features Collins first experiments with self-portraiture.

New York Dolls - New York Dolls
The New York Dolls self titled album is a wonderful proto punk/glam rock album of the early 1970s. The album art is of note, the members are all dressed femme even though they are all guys which I think is pretty groovy, I love guys dressed up femme. The songs rock pretty good, and my favorite song is Frankenstein.
