Welcome to the Viggorli Prompt Challenge!

Do you still remember the heyday of fandom when you'd scroll through your friendslist on the journaling site of your choice and it was simply full of yummy Viggorli stories? Those days are long past, but even today there are still fans of this ship out there. Some of you have been around since the movies came out. Others are "late" to the party and only discovered the joys of RPS years later. How cool is it that even today new fans find this ship?

Welcome all!

After I've been absent from fandom for long years, I've recently re-discovered the fun of talking to like-minded people online. The fun of reading stories. And the fun of writing them! And it seems to be similar for other people, too, who are coming back to fandom with a big hurra.

This challenge is for you. For all of you!

I've spent years organising fic challenges and contests, but actually never for my favourite two men. I'm totally prepared to remedy that fact, which is why I'll give you the Viggorli Birthday Bash!

We've all gotten a bit older *coughs*, so I felt the pressure of the now so very common week-long events is a bit much. I guess we all have to juggle real life, family, jobs and other responsibilities. Let's make this a little more low pressure!

What is the Viggorli Birthday Bash?

The Birthday Bash will be a prompt challenge running from October 20th 2024 (Viggo's birthday) till January 13th 2025 (Orlando's birthday). I'll provide 66 (yes, a whooping sixty-six) prompts from different categories to pick, choose and/or combine to your heart's delight.

The prompts will be revealed on October 20th. You will then have roughly three months to write something for one or several of the prompts.

While this idea came about as a fic challenge, everyone is invited to answer the prompts in whatever way they like, may it be meta, pic spams, fic recs ... you name it, it goes! All this challenge is supposed to do is inspire you and spread the Viggorli love!

Summary: "You can find the others if you are brave. They passed down all the roads long ago, and the Red Bull ran close behind them and covered their footprints..." Are all the unicorns gone from the world? Is he the last? What happened to the others? To find the answers to his questions, Dream must leave the sanctuary of his forest and face the dangers of the mortal world. Along the way he will encounter friend and foe, witches and wizards, harpies and highwaymen, and a demonic bull guarding the way to a crumbling castle by the sea...

A snippet from Chapter One:

Thomas tightens his grip on his reins and his rouncey-sensing his nerves- paws at the ground. With his master’s words ringing in his ears, he looks at the forest with new eyes and suddenly it does not seem so benevolent. An unnatural quiet has descended and he has the impression of many malignant eyes upon him. And still the black bird watches them from its log. “Mayhap we should turn around, sir?” he says quietly. “Hunt somewhere else?”

Sir William gives a sharp nod. “Indeed.” 

They turn their horses and urge them to a quick trot back the way they had come, both as eager as the other to be out from under the treeline. Yet at the very edge of the forest, Sir William draws rein and turns back. 

“Stay where you are, poor beast!” he calls. “This is no world for you. Stay in your forest and keep your trees green, and your friends protected. And good luck to you, for you are the last.”

And then they are away, the fading sound of hoofbeats leaving silence in its wake.

Long moments pass, and gradually normality returns to the glade.  The chirps of chiffchaffs and wood warblers compete with the distant drumming of a greater spotted woodpecker; a red squirrel bounds across the ground, returning from foraging to feed her hungry kittens; legions of bees and butterflies drift and flutter amongst the carpet of wildflowers. All is peaceful.

Then from out of the shadows steps the unicorn. 

He is a creature of rare magnificence, which of course he knows, for all unicorns are proud and vain. He is dark like the clear night sky is dark: black coat flecked with silver across his flanks and quarters, a reflection of the stars above. His mane is long and flowing, curling almost to his knees, though never knotting (it would not dare). He is tall and slender, with finely-feathered fetlocks, cloven hooves, and a tail that would put even the finest lion to shame. And his crowning glory, of course, is his magnificent spiraling horn which gleams like obsidian upon his noble brow. He is the lord of this forest, the guardian of its denizens, and his name is Dream.  

Dream comes to a stop next to the fallen oak and looks down upon the bird perched thereon. She has clearly been waiting for him, for she instantly takes flight, only to alight upon his shoulder.

“Did you hear them, lord?” she asks excitedly. “The humans? They were speaking of you!”

The unicorn turns his head to regard her out of one starlit eye. “I heard enough, Jessamy,” he says dismissively, before turning sharply on his haunches and making his way back into the shadows of the trees. He had been drawn out by the chatter of his charges regarding the human incursion into their realm, but he dislikes being so close to the forest’s borders. He feels Jessamy flare her wings for balance as he breaks into a swift trot, eager to return to his sanctuary deep within the woods, where his power is strongest and the laws of nature bend to his command. 

“They were saying that you are the last, lord!” Jessamy squawks. “Can it be so?”

“What would mortals know of the matter?” Dream tosses his head impatiently as he trots along. “Just because they have not seen any unicorns does not mean that they have all vanished. We know how to pass unseen in this world, and human eyes have ever been blind.”

“Yes, lord,” Jessamy acknowledges. “But now I think on it, we have not had the Lady Death bless our woods for many years, nor has the Lady Delirium come to dance with the butterflies… and when did you last hold counsel with the Lord Destiny?”

“They are busy in their own realms,” Dream snorts. “As I am here. The mortal world grows ever more dangerous; no doubt they do not seek to leave their domains unprotected to go visiting.”  

He slows to a walk as he enters  his sacred glade, deep in the heart of the forest. The oaks and ashes tower above him. The sunlight filtering through their canopies dapples the ground with green and golden light, and plays upon the clear waters of a deep, circular pool that sits in the very centre of the clearing. Here in the seat of his power, the world is exactly how Dream desires it to be. It is true that there are no real seasons here. Spring blossoms bloom alongside summer ripened fruits, and the days are gentle. The rain comes when he wishes it: to nourish the trees and replenish the streams,  but the harshness of winter is kept at bay.  Where in the wider forest his animals follow the natural rhythms of their lives- living and dying, hunter and hunted- here, around these sacred waters, all the creatures of Dream’s domain meet in peace. Here there is no predator or prey, no fear or bloodshed. The lion and his mate lie side by side with the wolf and the deer; the stoat the rabbit; the owl and the shrew… and if the years have turned outside the forest, their passing has had no impact here.  

Dream approaches the pool and gazes down at his reflection in the still water, thinking. In truth he is perturbed by the presence of humans in his forest. His woods have always been protected by his magic: hidden from mortal eyes, he has created and maintained a safe haven for the creatures under his care. Never before have men trespassed upon his land and threatened his subjects. He has not felt a waning of his power but perhaps something has shifted in the balance of the world…? Dream makes a decision. He must call his siblings, ask them if they have experienced similar.

He lowers his head to the water, casting his thoughts out. The pool is a scrying place: here, Dream is able to touch his horn to the water and call out to his siblings. No matter the distance, they will hear and be able to answer. Though he uses it seldom, indeed, Dream cannot recall the last time he called upon his family this way, always has he had an answer. This time, there is ringing silence in his head.

Technically speaking, the first three fics are WIPs! In fact, I post new chapters to all three of them once a week! (Yes I’m aware that makes most writers look at me like I’m insane, the BatPham server goes crazy every time I mention it. Especially my spouses. XD) Fowl a Bat posts every Monday, Formula every Thursday (so theres actually a new chapter today ;3), and Rebirth every Saturday!

Now, I don’t have anyone I’d like to tag, mainly because both my platonic spouses have already done this, and I’m sure most of the BatPham discord writers have already been spammed by like 7 people. I encourage you all to join in if you want to however! It found this really fun seeing the different ways I’ve started a fic!

Hello my lovelies! If you're new to following me, please prepare for a ridiculous amount of Ides of March spam. Every year, I schedule just about every Ides of March posts I can find, to run every so many minutes. It'll start at 8am Pacific tomorrow morning, and go until I'm out. Hi perce! I have been following your account for a while, and I LOVE your blog. Its literally even given me inspiration to try and start my own, but I literally have no idea how to start! I already have my rules, masterlist, and abt me ready.. just no drafts. I want to have a couple before I post just to make sure I have content ready.. but I literally have no idea where to start, my brain just BLANKS.

I love your fics, so could you give me some tips?

hi!!! first of all, thank you! i'm glad you enjoy my posts and it means a lot to inspire you?? like that was how i started here, being inspired and encouraged by a writer i love, so it's like a little full circle moment to me :')

secondly, don't feel like you have to have content ready at all possible moments!! i struggle with it a lot, but it's important to remember that you are doing this for fun/as a hobby and having the mindset that you have to constantly churn out writing can make it so you start to dread it. there's no pressure to post consistently or even have a schedule. post when you want. write when you want.

i'm going to put the rest under the cut because i tend to ramble a lot whoops

in terms of ideas, a lot of times i just write whatever comes to me. most of my drabbles are written in the moment because i'm not necessarily trying to think of ideas. which can be nice because then i'm not forcing things, but it's bad because then i'm not working on the things i wanted to write.

BUT! tumblr is FULL of inspiration and ideas! sometimes i'll search for writing prompts (i usually go for dialogue ones as opposed to scenarios but that's just me), and see what jumps out at me. there's some blogs that are dedicated to prompts or aus and those can be helpful to look at! even if you don't use one of the prompts, you can get inspired by it and go your own route.

my first writing here was a continuation/exploration of an idea i sent as an anon, so i had an easy thing to focus on. some people don't like their ideas being expounded upon, so if you want to do that, always ask the person first. (i personally don't mind if people get inspiration from my posts or ideas, i love seeing different takes and styles !!)

sometimes i also surround myself with the content i want to write. like, i mostly write nsfw because that's what interests me and i feel like i can focus on actions rather than feelings. it fits my writing style a lot better in my opinion. so i follow blogs that post the same stuff. you can get inspired by it, just because your brain is in that space. i'll see a post and my brain will be like "what if it was this character but also we change the situation and actually the dynamics are different now too" and all the sudden, i have a completely separate idea.

i'm not sure how familiar you are with tumblr itself, so i'll give a few pointers that are helpful to know!

when you make a new blog (sideblog or main), your first posts will most likely not show up for a bit in tags. this is mostly to make sure you're not spamming and whatnot but sometimes it helps to reblog some posts first and wait a few days until tumblr actually registers you as a blog! so i highly recommend setting up your blog and reblogging some things before posting your writing.

aaaand reblogging is a GREAT way to make mutuals/friends! for me, i always notice the people who reblog/leave tags on my writing and i'm a lot more likely to look at their blog if i recognize their name. reblogging is what keeps the community alive, too. it's really weird (in my opinion) to see a blog that only posts their content and never reblog anyone else's work. writing is very much a community and that means supporting each other.

Reki:

-Literally the most enthusiastic person you’ve ever seen. He’d be happy to just sit in silence with you because come on, it’s YOU. There’s no one he’d rather be wasting the hours away with.

-Your biggest hype man, EVER. You post something on Instagram? Get ready for a flood of comments, all from him. You could put your phone down for two minutes after posting, and you’ll come back to 99+ notifications of just reki commenting along the lines of “woah suddenly I’m on one knee” “DAMNNNN” and many, many more.

-Never leave your phone unattended around him. He won’t snoop, but be prepared to come back to your camera roll flooded with just zoomed in pictures of his face, his mouth, his eye, ANYWHERE. Mf is spamming your whole phone with pictures of him for you to come back to.

-He has to always be touching you in some way. Whether it’s holding your hand, your waist, a casual arm around your shoulder, there has to be something. He’ll put his hand on your ass sometimes while you walk in public.

-Honestly doesn’t even think PDA is anything out of the ordinary. Like, you’re his s/o??? Yes you’re in his lap, yes you’re in the middle of the skatepark, so what? You’re his, and he’s happy he can make everyone aware of that.

-I saw a post on here that said he would peel stickers off fruit and stick them to peoples’ foreheads, and I fully stand by this. However, it doesn’t just stop at fruit stickers. Anything remotely sticky, whether it’s tags from clothes, tape from a food box, even random sequins and bits of glitter he finds around, it’s immediately being stuck to some part of your face.

-Loves casual dates. Stopping by food stalls, browsing in clothes and game stores for a few hours, and skating around with you until it’s time to go home is a dream for him. Be prepared for day-long dates, because he will clear his entire schedule just to spend the day with you.

-His family adores you. His mother is always goading him to bring you over more, complaining that she misses her "honorary son/daughter/child". His sisters love you too. Any time you come over there’s immediately three tiny bodies shooting at you, grabbing you by the waist and dragging you over to wherever they’re playing. Reki tries to drag you away, wanting to have you for himself, but you always try and stay for at least five or ten minutes. Secretly, he loves that you get along so well with his siblings, going soft at the thought of how you would act with children of your own.

-He loves playing video games with you. Sitting in his lap, the two of you could spend hours switching from game to game. One minute you could be burning down a village in Minecraft, the next complaining while Reki whoops your ass in Mario Kart. His mom brings you food for your breaks between games, and she’ll even stay for a few minutes to talk to you while Reki shifts underneath you, glowing red from embarassment.

-If you can’t skate, he would beg to teach you. If you accept, he goes all out. He’ll make you your own customised board just for practicing, making sure it’s absolutely perfert for you to learn on. But if you can skate, get ready for endless races and competitions to see who can nail a new trick the quickest.

-Adores when you come to S to support him. He loves looking into the crowd and seeing you there cheering him on before he goes into a beef. If he wins, he’ll race over to where you are in the crowd, picking you up and spinning you around, kissing you without a care in the world. However, if he loses he’s thankful you’re always there to pick him back up and make him feel better afterwards.

-Loves cleaning you up after a big fall, kissing your bruises and cuts better. He’ll carefully wrap each injury with care, telling you how brave you are, no matter how small the cut. Secretly, he loves when you baby him after he falls himself. Seeing you wipe away the blood from a new cut and place a small plaster on it with such tenderness melts his heart in a way only you could.

-Speaking of plasters, this man has one for every occasion. Princesses, pirates, aliens, cats, dogs, sparkles, stripes, you name it, he’s got it.

-The type to sneak you out at two in the morning to get a slushee with him. Honestly, he’s up so late making boards for people he just has no perception of time.

-Spams your phone with TikToks or other funny things that reminds him of you. It could be a very specific thing, or a flower or cloud. If he thinks of you when he sees it(which is fairly often), it gets sent to you.

-Talks with his hands a lot. He’s a very expressive talker, so when he’s telling you a story it feels like you’re right there in the story with him.

-Please just kiss him. His cheeks, his forehead, his hand, his shoulder, his temples, his lips. Anywhere, he’ll melt under you. Mf is touch starved to the max.

-Always knows how to make you laugh. His laugh is infectious, it could get you out of your darkest moods.

-Sleeps with his head on your chest, and one hand in your shirt little perv.

-His social media is like a SHRINE for you. His highlights, his posts, his stories, EVERYWHERE. He’s just so proud to be able to call you his that he wants the whole world to know.

-Kisses in the rain while you run home, skateboards in your hands after the weather forecast failed you once again. He’s just so happy in the moment that he can’t contain himself, so he’s pulling you into him in the pouring rain, kissing you hard while your hair gets drenched.

-You don’t need to steal his clothes, he will literally give them to you because “you just look so cute wearing them”. Occasionally, he’ll take one of your hoodies, and even if it doesn’t exactly fit him, he’ll still keep it near him while he sleeps so he can keep your scent close to him.

Langa:

-This man is so oblivious to obvious hints, but still manages to pick up on the smallest of details? It’s incredible, honestly. He could describe the exact colour of your eyes with the most insane detail, but he still won’t notice when you try and hint that you like him in the first place!

-You two have a bit more of a low-key relationship, but you’ll make your usual appearance in his Instagram posts, or on his Snapchat story with a casual caption like a simple heart, or “my love<3”

-Not very big on PDA, not because he doesn’t like it, but because he doesn’t think of it. However, when he does feel like he’s being too physically distant, he’ll link pinkies with you as you walk along, or rest his head on your shoulder while you watch a video on your phone.

-His mom adores you, which is why Langa despises bringing you to his house. You always seem to leave with seven of his baby photos from his time snowboarding in Canada, a new recipe from his mother that you complimented, another one of his hoodies, and more miscellaneous stuff that you don’t even know how it ended up in your bag. He has a little shelf in your room specifically for this random stuff, and he always adds to the collection when he comes to your house. He’ll leave a keyring, a small toy, a Polaroid, anything honestly.

-Loves dates that you can experience. The movies, aquariums, museums and the zoo are common dates for the two of you to go on, but other than that, he adores going skateboarding with you. He’s been improving, and he loves when you notice little things he’s been picking up on, whether it be a new trick or simply how he balances himself on the board.

-Adores old Disney movies. Yall will binge a ton of them in one day, having full-blown musicals in Langa’s living room. When any of the romantic songs come on, like “So this is Love” from Cinderella, Langa will stand up and offer his hand to you, as the two of you waltz around his sitting room, humming the tune of the song.

-Study dates are frequent with the two of you. If you happen to stay up late studying and fall asleep on each other, his mother will cover the two of you with a blanket, tidying some of your books and leaving with a smile, happy with the knowledge you were making her son the happiest he’s been in quite a while.

-Slow dancing in the kitchen while you cook is a regular. When a particularly sappy love song comes on while he stirs the pot, he’ll turn around and hold you close to him, twirling you around the kitchen.

-Reki constantly jokes that he is a third wheel, poking fun at the two of you, Cherry and Joe, and Shadow and “his little girlfriend back at the flower shop”. He’ll hang out of Miya, whining about them having to stick together since they’re the only two “lone wolves”. He’ll usually get a well-earned thump into the back of the head from Miya, but it’s still funny to watch the whole thing go down.

-Tends to be shy when giving you clothes, so instead of asking you to wear them he’ll leave them out in places he knows you’ll find them, or he’ll come up behind you and plop it in your lap, murmuring about how cute it would look on you.

-Please do this man’s makeup. He will sit so still for you, waiting patiently while you dab eyeshadow at his eyes, trying not to blink so you don’t mess up his mascara. He’ll sit there mesmerised for a few minutes, taking in how he looks, and simply whisper “you do this every day?”

-Evem though he’s not a very openly affectionate person, he is stuck to your hip behind closed doors. He’ll lie in your lap for hours, staring up at you while you mess with his hair, pulling it into little plaits and pigtails.

-I can’t even describe how the two of you sleep. It’s simply a mass of limbs, and no one knows exactly what belongs to who. Somehow one of yall will end up upside down, and-why is Langa on the floor??

-He could talk about his time in Canada for hours, and you’d just lie on his chest and listen to him. Every once in a while he’ll look down at you to see if you’re still listening, and his heart will melt a little every time he sees you staring back up at him, eyes wide with interest.

-This man NEVER gets jealous. You’d literally have to cling to another man for it to click in his brain that Oh. He doesn’t like that.

-He’s not big on texting, but if you call him he will stay on that call with you for hours, even after the two of you fall asleep.

Today is the one year anniversary of this blog! I still remember how nervous I was to make it, unsure if anyone would even find it in the sea of other blogs, and now here we are! So about the new post editor...

I’ve been meaning to make a post about this for awhile but kept forgetting. But now with the “✨Look! A shiny new post editor✨”! thing being there constantly now it’s probably as good of a time as any.

As some of you may be aware, the XKit feature “editable reblogs” will not work with the new post editor. Right now it’s in beta and an option, but eventually it will become the only and default editor. Currently, XKit will not be able to make editable reblogs work with the new editor.

On the XKit discord, one of the team members is working on a workaround for this. However, the workaround will not directly edit or cut posts as it does now. It will simply “condense” (hence the name “condensed reblogs”) the reblogs. This will work only on the dash and only for those who have the extension installed. This will be annoying for 1: people who don’t have the extension installed and 2: people who are only/exclusively mobile as it won’t show up there, either. They are hoping to have something that will actually edit/cut the posts at some point, but it may not happen for awhile from what I understand by reading the discord server.

However, tumblr has seemed to be more receptive to suggestions and user input lately than in the past. Stuff like the tag viewer is now a native feature to the site. And tumblr staff sometimes are part of/are in the discord server for XKit. So while there’s no guarantee that they would listen, there is a better chance than in the past for tumblr staff to make editable reblogs- or at least something that would benefit the RP community- a feature of the new editor before it’s rolled out and made permanent.

I emailed tumblr a few weeks ago about this when the whole “whoops we accidentally opted everyone in to the beta editor” thing happened and we first learned that editable reblogs would no longer be possible. This is what I suggested:

A feature that would allow users to delete previous reblog comments, one at a time, and starting from the oldest addition on to the original post instead of an all-or-nothing deletion of the previous comments (or in this case, RP replies).

It would be important to only allow deletion of previous comments in chronological order to prevent abuse of the system (could easily use it to make it look like someone agreed with something that they did not agree with) and probably keeping the original post intact would help with other possible abuse of this feature. Right now, we can only delete all or nothing of a previous reblog and honestly it doesn’t seem like it’d be too difficult to have it be one addition at a time. In addition, it may also be a good idea for this to be something that people can toggle on and off on posts. The person who responded to my email about this was nice about my suggestion and seemed open to considering it so I’ve got a bit of hope. Especially if others tell them that it’s a thing they’d like to see happen, too.

If you would like tumblr to at least consider making this a native feature, please email them about it (using your own words, please! no need to spam with a form email). It’ll for sure help if they see a decent number of people would like and benefit from this option. Hopefully this is something that they would listen to! The RP community on tumblr isn’t the biggest user of the site, but there are quite a few of us still here who would appreciate something like this being built into the site before the extension we use gets broken (again) by a new editor. If you want, reblog this post so that people see it and write into tumblr themselves about it.

Sadly, neither of these things tend to happen here. 

Amount I sleep: During the school year it’s usually anywhere between 30 minutes and 6 hours (DON’T EVEN START BUBBLES YOU HAVE NO RIGHT), usually landing in the 3/4 hour ranges if I’m smart about it, but now that I am on Unofficial Break, it’s usually at least around 6 hours (except today was 3 because Avatar is an excellent show and the weirdos in this house have regularly scheduled breakfast at 9-something every morning). Sadly my sleep schedule can only be forced to tolerate normalcy for so long before careening back in the other direction, so we’ll see if this is just a blip or if we’re back to normal mid-Atlantic Ocean hours!

Lucky number(s): I wouldn’t say these are necessarily favorite numbers, but I do like 2 and 9. But come to think of it, second attempts at Official Things do tend to go better for me than first attempts, so maybe there’s some merit there after all! Dream Job: Don’t think I’m really cut out for dreaming anymore, haha (unless you are a theoretical future employer in which case I am Extremely Full of Ambition and Passion). The bed-adjacent metaphor has been made, and not to brag, but I can sleep on pretty much any surface. Currently studying my Not Favorite aspect of STEM (was there ever a favorite or did I just like being good at things sometimes) and learning how to People™ properly (and also learning a gazillion convoluted drug names like what the heck dude, did you just fall asleep on your typewriter coming up with these), so I’ll take whatever place hires me and pays me enough not to depend on my parents for everything, I suppose. In an ideal world, that would entail a job where I could make friends, and even more importantly, a job where my shortcomings would not cause Massive and Irreparable Harm, but I don’t think this line of work really meshes with that last one, so I guess I’ll either have to get my shit together™ extremely soon or fake my death, adopt an alias, and flee to a completely new place with no ties whatsoever before trying to get another, less high stakes job. 

(Though I guess, less cynically, I like helping people well enough? And stories are fun! Maybe there could’ve been something with that. Not that there still can’t be, mind, but there’s still a long way to go between Here and There)

(The urge to add all the other songs I’m not adding is so strong but I’ve got so much work to do so just assume I mean all Nintendo music from any game I’ve played, all Ghibli movie music, every musical I’ve ever heard, and even more) 

Random fact:

Apparently as early as the 17th century, you could guess that a child would have a shortened life span if their foreheads tasted salty. Yes, there is a specific reason, and yes, you may already know what it is, and thankfully no, that life span projection no longer holds true, assuming access to Modern Medicine! 

Favourite Authors: Okay I have not read enough various books of enough various authors to be able to answer this, so I’m just gonna go with a few books instead. They are not necessarily all-time favorites, but I enjoyed reading them very much at the time and more often than not go back to them for comfort reads: The Martian, any of first three Harry Potter books, and The Rise of Kiyoshi. (That last one’s not really a comfort read but I am drowning in Loving Kiyoshi juice so here we are)

Favourite Animal Noises: Certain kinds of birds (UNLESS it’s some ungodly hour of the morning and you’re trying to sleep)? Ooh, and crickets! 

Aesthetic: A slob, but like...a comfy slob. An incredibly disorganized hermit who is happy to mill about in the uncontrolled entropy. (Are we talking about what aesthetic I give off, or what I like to look at, visually? Because I like space, and water, and mountains, and forests, and forests ON mountains, OOH and forests on mountains at night where you can see space, perhaps reflected in a body of water. Or just water, idk. Different things are pretty to look at at different times)
